I just can't play. I have a good Internet, good PC but I get bugs. For example, enemies just do not load . It's like I'm playing with the invisible. Instead give the enemies of intellect , Ubisoft just gave them a lot of health. They just run at me, and my weapons do not cause them any damage. Very glad, that not spent on this game their money . Neither do you.

I also notice some occasional graphical lag in game this happens randomly. I do love the game but that being said i wished there were a little less technical issues. I hope the devs work a lot harder on the next division title. I will probably wait to see the reviews before buying next time though. Expand

Update 1.8 is the best Division has ever been

    The loot is fixed
the DZ is about the same as always
    grind reduction is nice
play how you want is always good
    social design is good
loot boxes can be ignored but there
lots to do, GE are kinda bad because if you miss it, you miss it.

I'm only ever interested in single-player content so being forced to always be online is a huge thumbs down from me.

The idea and setting of this game are both very interesting... what a waste.

Next thing you know a ladder kills you, because of a new bug. Or you're doing one of the Incursions where you fight waves of enemies, only to have a game crash at the final wave. What started as a good looking and interesting game with possibilities is continuously turning unplayable and unfun. The players have noticed and there seem to be less and less players from day to day. The game itself would be a 7 or 8 itself if everything would be working but in the state it is in and since the game developers seem to have skipped some programming and quality assurance courses, the game is not worth anything above a 4. Very sad, was really hoping for this game to be as good as advertised. Expand

    Uplay pops up.
Relent and connect steam to Uplay.
    The division finally starts.
Log in. Get a series of images passing by so fast you can't actually watch it. Yeah, some kind of virus killed the populace. Get on with it.
Emerge in a street. I can choose a character. I am a woman and I am white. The only two white women are a young dyke(only cropped haircuts) or the older variant of that girl with the option of having a small pony tail. The young girl is plain looking, the older one is ugly.
    I get annoyed.
    Picked the young one.
Get instructions how to shoot(i know this stuff already so let's get going).
The sign of button pops up. I probably have to press it. No explanation which button it is, so finally go into the menu and look at the controls: it is the space bar.
Ok. Lets go. Press shift. I don't sprint.
Look again in the controls: shift is sprint. Press shift again: can't sprint.
    Get seriously frustrated..
Follow the instruction to shoot at the assigned objects and jump over obstacles.
    Can sprint now with shift.
So they only unlock the sprint control after your followed the instructions.
Move to some safehouse that I was ordered to go to.
Safehouse crawls with people Called TSSSSsssK or GotaGartcha baby. UnderBeat or Malaficky. That I know from MMO's. What are all these people doing in my singleplayer?
I get instruction to equip my frist skill. No explanation how to do this. So I have to figure out how to do it..
Finally I get to go. I get three generic MMO style quests offered. Fetch this. Escort that or do this.
Stopped game., deinstalled it and asked a refund.

According to steam I played this game 39 minutes. It feels like I did not play at all.

Still to this day, The Division is still a graphically great game, I'm running the game all on High settings and the scenery is just jaw-dropping. I really wish this game had a photo-mode. I'm 5 hours into the game writing this review and for some reason I want to do all the side missions and encounters, something that I rarely do nowadays because in some games it serves no purpose. In this game, it has a purpose so you can upgrade your headquarters. Sure the enemies are bullet spongy but that's what makes this game. If everything was 1 shot kill, then it would have just become another Wildlands or Breakpoint but taking place in New York.

As someone who hates the newer Assassin Creed titles (Origins, Odyssey & Valhalla) for being an RPG title now, I would rather play this MMO-RPG title, a game that's 4 years old than those newer games. And that's very interesting to say since I love the Assassin Creed titles (everything before Syndicate).

I'll be back to update this review after I beat the game.

    ----

After beating the game, here's my thoughts.

    (I'm playing on 'Normal' difficulty)

The Division has 18 main missions. Each district has it's own side missions and encounters that you can gather by going into safe houses along with district bosses that you can defeat. After completing all of the side missions, head back to the safe house to earn a blueprint and XP.

I did most of the side missions and encounters before I started to play the main missions, after that was done I played the main missions and I completed the game in ~ 24 hours and played the last few missions on World Tier 2. To put that into perspective, I completed all the side missions from district levels 5 - 23 and I only had 4 out of the 18 main missions completed. I went to level 25 by just completing each district. Sadly I had to stop at the 24+ districts because I didn't have the Tech wing unlocked so I can't get better weapons to defeat these enemies with Gold health bars.

You can co-op through the entire time or solo the entire time (you just have to be pretty good at the game). I personally did it solo since people in matchmaking are pretty horrible at shooting. With this game not being 1 shot kill like Wildlands, stealth can't be done... sadly so don't try it. I haven't tried out the Dark Zone, I don't think I will. Based on watching other people play it, it's very loot-based where you need to have the best gear and a team before going in. If not, you will lose the fights.

In The Division, you can play however you want, whether it's doing all the side missions first or the main missions first, it's not very linear nor it doesn't hold your hand. If you go under-geared in a higher tier district or Dark Zone, you will get destroyed.

Districts are very repetitive with very similar encounters and side missions, but I don't mind it, though some will dislike the game because of this. Each district adds new scenery which kinda makes it new'ish in a way. As I stated, I enjoyed the game to the point where I did the side missions first (to get the repetitive content out of the way).

The only issue I really have with the game is what whenever I launch the game, it launches in Windowed mode. Pretty annoying, but nothing game breaking. I get fantastic FPS on High settings and I haven't had any server issues.

A lot of people dislike The Division but it's really a great game, I loved every second of it... as you can tell by how many hours I put into it. The Division is definitely a game if FPS gamers that want an MMO-RPG game, they should have this game in their library.

As a solo player, this is the worst looter shooter game I have ever played. Zero game balance skew towards singleplayer. Boss enemies are just high damage high accuracy bullet sponges and all you can do is to dance around them because they can snipe you with minigun. And when there is more than one in a tight spot, you are screwed. Zero fun, very frustrating.

The world building is The Division strongest feature, with NYC represented in such a meticulous way, with an added sense of despair, and dread that really makes you feeling as if this city is in the clutches of disease. Unfortunately the story does not elaborate on characters much, and is more of a tone setter for the multiplayer components.

The gun play is solid, and the mechanics are respectable, but this is very much an RPG then it is a shooter. The loot drops are good, however most drops are similar and the feeling of progression isn't high. The main missions are the best part of The Division, with varying objectives, and fun moments, however the side quests get very repetitive after a while, and this leads to a sense of tedium.

Overall i feel like the division is a well created world, with a great sense of immersion, however mission structure, and lackluster loot drops pull down the experience for me.

Would have been a lot better if the darkzone was co-op vs npcs instead of PvP because obviously, that was going to cause hackers to appear and naturally, they did making it virtually unplayable. This was a learning experience for Ubisoft and sadly wrecked the Division from becoming the game it promised to be.

It's kind of an MMO, but lacking features; it's kind of an RPG, but lacking depth; it's kind of a tactical 3rd person shooter, but lacking realism. However, as a whole the game simply works... surprisingly well I might add.

    Anyway, let's break it down:

    The Bad
    - Still a bit buggy (getting stuck in objects, disconnecting, falling through levels).
    - Enemies don't need to be far above your level to make them severe bullet sponges. This leads to...
    - Grouping issues, since characters more than 3 levels above/below cause severe balancing issues.
    - Skills are unlocked by doing side-missions instead of levelling up. This leads to...
    - ...if you spend a while doing missions in a block (without going back to the safe house), you feel like you are getting nowhere until you do finally get back and suddenly unlock tons and tons of skills all at once.
    - The loot is very "meh". Other than increasing damage/dps/armour numbers, nothing really makes you too thrilled with getting new loot. It is also replaced very quickly as you level.
    - No incentive to start another character - every one is EXACTLY the same and there is no permanent skills/classes to "shake it up".
    - It's repetitive. 1-30 is fun, but end-game will not be for everyone. To be fair, I am never a fan of these end-game MMO-ey things anyway... it's the journey there that I prefer and will not be playing the endless grinding raids etc. If you do not plan on doing this then this may not be so much of a "con".

    The Good
    - Combat is very enjoyable. It is fluid, tactical and the cover mechanics are spot on.
    - Great fun co-op with a group of friends.
    - Ability to respec whenever you wish.
    - It looks gorgeous and runs surprisingly smoothly too.
    - Easy to pick up and play.
    - Lot's to do and a large open world to explore.
    - 4 Character slots so that you can have several different leveled characters in play.
    - Plenty of skills (and mods for them), talents and perks to choose from.

So, in summary, it's a flawed, but very enjoyable game. Worthy of a thumbs up and certainly not deserving of all the negativity. With any luck, patches and DLC may fix some of the issues and add some required features.

The world is incredibly detailed and depicts a populated city after an apocalyptic fallout very well. I personally found the combat fun, especially with friends.

Unfortunately, the game has some major short comings. The biggest one for me is the AI's utter stupidity. The game uses an aggro system where the AI will focus on one of your team mates over the rest, which is a fun mechanic. Except the AI are terrible at changing focus onto somebody else. It's not uncommon for the AI's to completely ignore you even when you're a couple feet beside them, gunning them down for several seconds. Enemies can also be suppressed behind cover by shooting at them for a bit. Which again is a great mechanic. Except they'll often remain turtled behind cover, doing absolutely nothing as you stand beside them, slowly shooting away their health bar. And lastly, they love climbing on top of vehicles, whilst being mowed down, for no discernible reason.

The other aspect I found incredibly disappointing is the lack of story. The story missions don't have any cinematics and since your character barely ever talks, most of the dialogue is just people telling you what to do. There's a problem that needs fixing, you fix it, fight a dull boss battle because his aggro AI gets bugged and that's it. Most of the story telling is done through phone recordings and 'echos' which are 3D freeze frames of an event that you can go around clicking on echo people to get voice recordings of what was happening at the time. (Which I found really boring). The game has very few cinematics and most of them tend to be just listening to some person talk about problems that need fixing. There's very little drama or action. Some of the best cinematics are brief clips of video footage taken at various places in the city, which seem to have been added as an after thought. The 'bosses' are also very dull and generic. They don't really come off as real people so much as just placeholders for something to fight against.

So all in all, the combat could have been better, but I still found it a lot of fun for the most part. I wish the story had been executed with more cinematics, rather than voice recordings.

It's also super cheap right now.

This is a model of how a game launched being OK, but turned into a gem because the developer and community put the work in to make a great environment to experience the content.

The Division is a 3rd person shooter with RPG elements. We play in a post apocalyptical Manhattan that was caught by a human engineered disease that wiped almost the entire population. I've always asked myself why this sort of stuff always happens in Manhattan. Poor people...

The graphics are quite impressive, I must say. I do not know the city, but all stuff that I've seen seemed quite close to what I imagine. It seems real. It's not common for me to get this kind of feeling. Buildings, streets, cars, people, animals... I quite like how all those elements were mixed to create this world.

All the sounds set together create an immersive environment to walk around. NPCs have a proper amount of voicelines, and sometimes we pass by them and they are making a proper dialogue. We are quite able to sense desperation. When we see someone in need and we are able to help him, it's quite rewarding, at least it was to me.

The only sound I do not like a lot was the one from the guns. It can be quite accurate, but it seems quite "short" like it was a paintball gun. Despite that, I guess I just had low tier weapons, and maybe that's not the case in the better ones.

    2 – GAMEPLAY

The gunplay is based on a cover mechanism, that I usually do not like. Most time it reminded me of Spec Ops: The Line, a game that I've loved, and probably that's the reason it gets me playing more at first. Glad I did it since the mechanics are very well balanced. We can do missions in co-op, up to 4 players, and it was quite easy to find players from my level to join me in any mission. With proper tactics, the game becomes quite fun and engaging. When 4 players are able to work together some very interesting moves can be done, and sometimes we get a great sensation of accomplishment when we are able to defeat some stronger boss. NPCs are some sort of bullet sponges. Probably it would be possible to make them harder to beat without using that, but I admit is not the best system in the world... it's ok.

Unfortunately, we spend tons of time walking around, and that gets quite annoying after a while.

Main missions are balanced and exciting, but you will spend most of your time doing side missions to find loot, gear and level up your character. That's not optional. You have to do those or you will not be able to progress in the main plot since the NPCs get stronger way faster than you. For me, both of these aspects are the worst part of the game.

I got stuck in the main plot quite fast, and I was forced to start doing all the side missions suited to my character level... ohhh, and those are standalone missions... all to spend some time doing the main missions with 3 other guys.

I'm not entirely sure about the replay value of the singleplayer. I suppose that after you beat the game, and since you are forced to do so many side missions, there's not much interest in playing again, except if you are a completionist.

    3 – CONCLUSION

This is just a first impressions video. I've not tested many things, like multiplayer. I was not very tempted to try it also, I think the risk is bigger than the reward, and I wanted to give my best at the main mission.

I loved the way they have implemented the co-op. It's quick and easy to find someone to play with us.

People that have played with me was friendly, but the community on Reddit was not very talkative. Maybe since the game is mostly singleplayer, I do not know.

Without a sale, the price is quite high, but with a sale, the game is totally worth it just for the singleplayer alone. I think most of the initial bugs are now gone. It may not be the best game in the world, but I think most of the criticism is not deserved at this point.

    Very good game!

It took The Division a lot of time to reach our computers and consoles, but it was worth waiting for. We have already spent about 200 hours with it collectively and we’re not planning on abandoning it, because it is, simply put, outstanding and shows amazing potential for the future. [05/2016, p.30]

An immensely thrilling action-MMO hybrid, but good for 30 hours rather than the hoped-for 300. [May 2016, p.70]
