Really fun game to play with your friends and coordinate as a team. Some server stability issues at launch but that is understandable. I feel like some of the negative reviews are just because they expected an entirely different game or set their expectations through the roof. For what the game is, an online shooter with rpg elements and progression, it's great and alot of fun.

Move beyond any server issues and the real game is underneath. Its a game, and a good one at that! I think reviewers who have given it an overwhemingly negative review seem to have had a bad idea about the game even when they purchased it? Seriously if you read some of them, its as if they have a personal vendetta against Ubisoft... if you don't like something, you need to be critical but also objective. You can read how they feel they have been cheated or the information they provide is factually in-accurate. Microtransactions are in the game, they are for visual upgrades only. DLC is paid for but if you have the season pass, it gives you a percentage saving in the long run.

The game play is a mix of Gears Of War cover shooting with Ghost Recon style "run here, get into cover there" mechanics. The graphics are amazing, they went back to tweek some of the lighting and some other atmospheric details with the day 1 patch, very well done on keeping the game away from an early release and it shows the delays were worth it!

You are a Division Agent, called upon when the world has collapsed into anarchy. JTF are the games version of NATO and are the martial law. The missions (26 Main) are well put together and have a mix bag of objectives which resolve around a mutated small pox virus being unleashed on Black Friday - very clever and ties in perfectly to the whole current social understanding of the event. Mad rush shoppers spreading the virus as they spend cash and expediting the end times! The game does throw alot of info at you - one review from time.com explains that the game world is always shouting something at you or throwing up some graphic or detail all at the sametime which can be a little disorientating. The side missions are also very engaging and are light relief to the games main missions. Replay on this game is good, want to tackle the encounter from another angle or go vertical - go for it!

Overall, when considering the release window for this game was very quiet and Destiny being in a shallow pit at the moment, this is the meat on the bones players have been looking for. If your looking for some really good social gaming, this has it. Joined Discord and have met some good people who are all in it for the same reason I am - immersion and a sense of relief from the mundane real lives we live. Who wouldn't want to be part of a group who are called on to save the world!

good game, not really buggy as people , half way through , stable game. Server crashes did happen, and it can be expected any MMORPG on day 1.

Certainly not the best, but a good game IMHO

Great game and I am loving it so far. Playing with friends certainly adds to the level of enjoyment, though I don't mind soloing from time to time. I've had 0 issues playing the game or getting anything running. Yes their was a single hour of downtime at launch.. boo hoo get over it, it was only an hour and then servers were back up. Looking forward to the future.

The Division is a good of example of a game that got much better with time. After all the patches (latest one is 1.8) this game is finally becoming what it should be from the beginning. I really enjoy it lately i would recommend it to every fan of FPS/RPG type of gameplay. It really worth it. I think Ubi deserves a pat in a back for fixing this game. Good job guys. See, you CAN do it if you try :)

Despite my opinion about ubi I honestly think that The Division is a very enjoyable game with fun mechanics, beautiful graphics (despite the downgrade) set in an amazing open world with phenomenal atmosphere (I have to admit that I love post-apo). I played 11 hours so far earning 10th level (and also 10th dark zone rank). I did both solo and group and had a blast! I loved the rpg mechanics, the gun feel, sounds, destroyable surroundings (try shoting bricks, windows, display elements, wood, etc.) Met few nice gamers today and we rocked the dark zone killing rouge agents, mobs, extracting loot, doing few campaign missons.

All in all the game is very good. It's not perfect (the story is ok but nothing more) and definitely is much more fun with a group of friends (although it's very easy to meet people in the game) but it's a solid 8.5/10. See you in dz.

9/10 and the reason for the subtraction is due to the repetitive PVE content in the game. Although it's not as bad as Destiny's PVE on launch, it's very close. If I have to setup another damn antenna on a roof I'm going to punch a baby.

Great game overall! I've already put 60+ hours into the beta and about 8 hours into the full game.

Game-play is super fun and the world is beautiful. Coop is some of the best I've played in a recent game. It does however sometimes get a little repetitive however during a long solo play session, but finding a good piece of gear brings you right out of it.

The Division was one of those games I was stupidly excited for because it looked graphically beautiful and the gameplay didn't really matter to me. Initially I was annoyed to learn it would be an MMORPG but having played Destiny - I am okay with that.

Gameplay wise it is okay I guess, there is quite a bit of repetition to it, go from A to B and kill C or go from A to B to C to D and find person E. It's variety comes from the landscape that these missions take place in, different parts of NYC. There are some elements which are very undersold or not well explained - like the crafting mechanics, I just don't get it - they're so basic but not explained to you in any shape or form.

The characters in the game are quite good, they're actually well acted well thought out and some of them are likeable. I particularly like the vendors who randomly yell things at you like as you are walking to another part of the map they yell - "You won't buy quality things over there!". Missions are good, but just like the side activities - feel repetitive and the excitement comes from the locations you're playing them out in.

The PVP dark zone is great, you can be a complete pain in the behind and murder everyone or go in there and find some great equipment and leave. Depending on what you want out of it, it can be interesting.

Finally Graphics - yes it has been lightly downgraded from the initial E3 demo we were showed, you aren't getting dynamic textures which change with weather and snow any more and the fidelity of the cars seems less. But by and large this is the most beautiful game open world game I have ever played. The atmosphere of NYC is brilliant and it really feels like a damaged city. Sounds / Atmospheric effects and music are all excellent.

However don't think you will run this at 60fps on 1080p/Ultra settings on anything less than a 980ti. I have not experienced any bugs or glitches, but it is a beast to run.

Overall it is a good game, but there is a caveat that it isn't as great as you are probably going to think it will be and the repetitive nature of the game will likely grate on you.

Marred by repetition and some bad voice acting that shouldn't have made the cut in a AAA product, but if you don't mind the combat being as much RPG as shooter (a headshot is not a lethal takedown, not even close), The Division has a lot to offer.

I must admit, this being Ubisoft's game I didn't even kid myself about the quality, but hey - here we are with a quality product. My friend took the risk and bought the game on day 1, but after some time playing he recommended I get it too and I'm having a blast so far. The graphics are great, the gameplay flow is very Destiny-esque or Borderland-y (in terms of weapons).

Is it 100% the best game out there? I doubt it. Is it worth it to pick up with some friends as a casual game? Hell yes.

For those that say there is no story (yes I mean you Angry Centaur Gaming) then you have not bothered to play the entire game and also pick up the very meaningful collectibles.

With that said, this game did what Destiny SHOULD have done. The gun play is tight and requires tactics - run and gun style will get you killed. The story, while cliche, is well told and the voice acting is, for the most part, well done with a few exceptional moments and a few eh moments.

The sound is fantastic. The soundtrack, when it plays, is great and is used very well to highlight moments of intensity - otherwise you are left to the ambient sounds of a stripped city. Stripped until you start putting a dent into the hell hole that NYC has become. As you complete the missions, side missions, etc. the world starts to come to life - people go back to the streets and it feels different. Your base of operations becomes a buzzing hub of NPC activity. This is open world catastrophe done right.

The Snow Drop engine is amazing and the graphics on the PC are superb. They are even really incredible on console, after all, what game besides Halo 5, Bloodborne or the dreaded The Order even come close graphically on console?

The launch was actually very smooth despite the issue of handling loads at midnight EST. That got quickly ironed out and connectivity has been solid since. Console did not have as much of an issue whereas PC did - but it was quickly addressed and you were in and running within about 30 minutes.

If you like the original Rainbow Six games or Splinter Cell, you will enjoy this game for the gun play that punishes you for not using tactics and cover. If you prefer to run and gun (COD style) this game will not be pleasant.

For me, this was money well spent.

The reason people do not like this game, was that they had the thought it would be a Survival game first, then FPS game second, and lastly a RPG.

I promise you, if they had thought this game with along the lines of Firefall, Destiny, or any 3rd person shooter RPG, they would be saying this is a fine game. Even in comparison to WoW, GW/GW2, Warhammer Online, TOR, AION, ESO, SRO, LotrO, Rift, FF, STO, CoH, or any of the other hundreds of MMOs I played, this is a good MMO.

Having addressed that, there are actually Cons:

    - This game sometimes has clunky controls. But I would say, 80% of the time, the game is relatively smooth.

    - Can't really play with your friends, and I'll explain why. The pairing system works as an average, for the most part, if you're level 18 and playing with a level 10 friend, the AI will be level ~15. This makes your friend useless, and you having to carry the entire game if you decide to pair up with them. Once you hit 30, no matter what, the enemy will be 25 (until you hit the 28-30 zones). So if you played a lot, and got to 30, and your friends just picked up the game and are level 5-10, well better re-roll a character.

    - A huge thing is that there are 3 different credit systems and 2 different crafting systems.
    1) Normal credits you get from finishing quests/dungeons, and killing enemies in the normal zone. There are a few items worth buying, but most of it is garbage end game. And you'll have huge stock piles of credits with nothing to buy except for vanity items.
    2) Dark Zone Credits, exclusively from the DZ, right now any AI in the DZ can drop it, making it relatively fast to gather up a stockpile. (This is probably because in the Beta, it took a long time to get DZ Credits). The problem is that buying the intro gear requires the player to be level 30 DZ (as opposed to your normal level). I've noticed by the time I hit level 30 DZ, the DZ intro gear was useless to me for the most part, rendering the DZ Credits mainly useless.
    3) Phoenix Credits, only named yellow mobs can drop it (usually drop 2 Phoenix credits). You can also receive them from doing the daily missions (3) for 30 credits for when you complete the daily. Or playing the missions on challenging, which gives out 30 on completion of the challenging mode. I believe it maxes out at 80 or so a day. These are used for High-End gear/end game gear.
1A) Normal crafting is made by the crafting materials you find in the non-DZ areas. You can unlock recipes from completing missions or buying them for credits or phoenix credits for the High-End gear. You can also combine lower level materials to become higher level materials (Like Diablo), the only difference is that there is no "Craft All" button, making it tedious to craft things.
    - As a side note, all crafting is pretty much random (Diablo), so you can get horrible base damage and great mods/perks on the gear. Or get great damage and bad mods/perks. Or a mixture of both, it really is luck. Meaning you might want to craft the same thing a few times if you haven't got the best possible stats or at least decent stats.
    2) Dark Zone crafting is very tedious. First you have to collect the material called "Division Tech", after that, you have to change the Division Tech into "Dark Zone Materials" (Fabrics, Weapon Parts, Electronics) and then you can craft your materials. But it's mainly useless because of Phoenix Creds.

    - PVP, right now, is not worth it. It takes a long time to actually level up in the Dark Zone (the only PVP area), and when you die (could be AI or player) you lose a lot of XP. And the reward of surviving the timer of going "rogue" (killing an enemy player) is not worth it at all. Most of the gear people are collecting is for the materials themselves and not the actual gear. Because it is VERY EASY to gear up. Most people accidentally go rogue, because the damage threshold to other players is very low. 2 pistol shots, or 1 shot from any primary weapon will make you go rogue. (Again in the Beta, people taunted others by shooting them once to see if the other player would open up on them. Making the taunted player go rogue)

    Pros:

    - Vivid story, through the side missions and main missions, it is very entertaining. And the collectibles only enhance the story. The Division does a good job making the smallest things fun. Takes about 28 hours to complete the main story and side missions.

    - Fast leveling, it took me 25 hours to reach max level 30.

    - Gearing is relatively fast for an RPG. You can get Superior gear in ~2 hours of playing. And afterwards, a piece of High End gear/End game gear in another 2 hours. 1-2 pieces of High End gear makes the normal/hard moments easy, and challenging moments doable (but still very hard). By the time the DLC comes out, hardcore and core gamers should have a decent amount of high-end stuff.

    - REVIEW -

    The Division is a third-person cover-based modern-day Borderlands-esque MMORPG-lite.

It is not a third-person cover shooter that happens to have a solid RPG component. It is an RPG that happens to have solid third-person cover shooter mechanics.

If you don't like the idea of having to shoot a boss enemy multiple times in the head, then this is not your game. If you don't like the idea of having to grind levels and loot to beat that "bullet sponge" enemy, then this is not your game (spoiler alert: it's an RPG, if you're encountering bullet sponges, then you're not strong enough, and it's your fault). If you don't usually like RPG-style games, this probably won't change your mind.

If, on the other hand, you want a fun third person RPG with solid cover-shooter mechanics, good customization options (aesthetic and functional), and an aesthetic that definitely evokes the feel of an apocalypse-ish New York City, circa-2013, then you might just like the game. Calling it repetitive is not unfair, but I find the gameplay thoroughly enjoyable (best cover system I've ever used), so for me it's about as "repetitive" as Borderlands.

If you played the beta, you pretty much saw what was available. If you liked it, you'll like having some more room to do stuff in the retail version, and a little more stuff to do. If you didn't like the beta, you won't like the retail version (so why did so many of you buy it).

So many complaints. Well I guess I've been lucky. I have 12 hours played and I encountered one very minor error so far. No disconnects or anything, so it's been almost flawless.

As for the game, I really didn't expect it to be this good. It's super exciting. Great atmosphere. I have had no luck in the dark zone yet tho, being a lonewolf I have pretty much been killed by every group

The Division however has not only surpassed my dwindling expectations, but it has also restored a considerable amount of faith in Ubisoft as a whole as this is not only a very grand and stunning experience; but it also runs to an exceptional standard especially when compared to their and many other AAA games. Developers Massive Entertainment have simply outshone the publishers and their other internal in-house development teams.

The game is largely a solo/co-op cover-based shooter in 3rd person with RPG elements. It takes place in a scaled-down but still sizable New York City in several areas and is a grand and atmospheric experience with lots to explore and places to discover. You grind by completing main missions, side missions and other occurrences that pop up to earn XP and there is always plenty of things to do. The loot aspect is also engaging as you try to obtain the best weapons and equipment which can benefit you in battle against the AI or fellow players in the Dark Zone. Each mission has a recommended level to participate in so the game forces you to experience many fringe missions to rank up which enables the player to get the most out of the game instead of trying to rush to the finish. It is incredibly well-balanced.

Visually; the game looks stunning - I am running this on an ageing GTX770 on high settings and not only does it still look amazingly detailed; I was happily running this at a consistent framerate just shy of 60fps throughout. I experienced no lag, stutters or drops which is an absolute testament to the developers in their optimization execution. You don't see this very often especially with Ubisoft and the typcial AAA market these days. The game may not look as remarkable as once seen back in 2013 but it isn't far off and the level of detail and dynamic effects are staggering at times.

The mechanics in respect to the controls have been implemented superbly too - the cover system works fluently and the movement is absolutely slick. Shooting is also solid and the guns are all varied based on their type and stats. Many developers over the years have expressed their difficulties in developing engines with 3rd person physics - it plagued Rockstar games for years and other teams have struggled to provide the user with clean and fluid controls but Ubisoft Massive have succeeded here on a huge scale.

Surprisingly, there isn't too many negatives although some players who are rolling solo may find the game a tad repetitive in time. The AI is also iffy at best and whilst they do provide some fierce battles; their behaviour is somewhat questionable. This game is also required to run online at all times although in the period I have been playing; I have only experienced one disconnect - the stability of the Ubisoft servers which have been called into question countless times in the past is actually not an issue which is a surprise despite a day one two hour downtime. The one personal disappointment for me is that the user interface and HUD is quite cluttered and ugly but the latter can be customized in the menu and the menu interface needs a bit of adjusting too from a personal standpoint. Unfortunately; it's not quite as clean and stylish as originally seen back when the game was first announced but on the whole; it's just a minor niggle.

Overall; The Division has exceeded my expectations on a significant scale that I did no expect. Despite all the murmurings and frustrations post-Watch Dogs in the last couple of years; Ubisoft have finally delivered a solid and sensational experience that is not only polished on an incredible scale; it's almost a generation-defining game. The absence of serious problems and the consistency in which the game runs is also another major boost that rights the wrongs of Ubisoft's bleak recent history. Another remarkable achievement is that this game has zero loading screens in-game which allows you to explore New York above and below ground into missions and other locations without any interruptions whatsoever - this is almost unthinkable in respects to the scale of it. The game is best played with friends but even as a solo player; the amount of content here is sublime and if you're a fan of RPG's and shooters; this is an absolute must buy. Whether you detest Ubisoft or AAA games these days; you have to appreciate the effort and execution of this highly ambitious title as it really puts other games to shame. Whether this is a one-off or if Ubisoft have finally turned a corner remains to be seen but this game has potential to be enjoyed for months and years to come.

This game is like a cross between Watch Dogs, Borderlands, and D3. This is not a game for COD drop shotters or 360noscopers, it relies heavily on Intelligence, not reflexes. Early on (leveling) this will seem apparent with positioning and minor tactics, but this becomes really obvious after max level in the Dark Zone, and then Challenge modes. After the most recent challenge mode my group wiped in less than 5 seconds from pulling the first pack, prompting us to come up with ability swaps and ideas on how to meet the challenge. In total I think it took us around two hours to complete and was an absolute blast of a challenge. This game is heavy on teamwork, being adaptable, and critical thinking to figure out the best approach. I should also point out that there is not one "A.I." in this game, but dozens... and they get harder as you meet different factions. I treat LMB with far more respect than Cleaners as they have proven their capability to get behind me (freaking shotguns... I swear). Not to mention that several bosses don't act in the same manner as normal enemies you fight, I shudder to think of what a shotgun boss will be like...

Honestly I think a better way to look at the content in this game is that you have two different types of levels. You have experience levels and dark zone levels. 30 experience levels and 50 Dark Zone levels, it isn't grindy at all to get to level 30 and start the gear game. The dark zone is very grindy though and is much more pleasant with friends and exploring new areas (At the point of this review I am level 30 and 30 DZ rank). I started this game solo and met several people along the way through matchmaking and the Dark Zone (Ubisoft needs to have an in game method of adding friends... not being able to do so is really stupid) so my Uplay friends list now has enough people that I'm never playing alone.

I think my only real complaint is the lack of PVP, and if you read "I hate the pvp" in anyone's reviews, they are lying because the only pvp is a weird zone wide manhunt. If you "go rogue" in the DZ you get skulls over your head that tell everyone in the zone you are worth 10 times more DZ rep than anything in the zone... so of course all 30+ people in the zone stop what they are doing and hunt you down. I've actually really enjoyed the hunting rogues down experience, but there is little benefit to being rogue and as I've played longer and longer I've seen fewer and fewer rogues, because it just isn't worth it. So the DZ is largely people farming elites similar to the welfare isles in WOW (rare farming). I think the game would really benefit from a 4v4 or 8v8 instanced pvp zone (similar to battlegrounds). In my opinion there is no real pvp in the game.

In a word though, the game is fantastic. It has been a fantastic experience and I intend on playing a great deal more over the next year or so. I find it odd that I'm giving this a 10, but I'm not judging it by Ubisoft or their stupid Uplay. I'm judging it by the content in the game and the fun I've had playing it. It has been more fun than any game I've played in the last two years, I hope it continues to be.

Since it is A RPG, it is about teamwork and coordination to take down Bosses that can "Unfairly" take a lot of Damage.

This is the FIrst RPG that I have played that once I am in a mission with others, I forget that I originally started to "Gain A Level" but get so wrapped up into the actual fight, that I keep going and have lots of fun and by the time I have gained that level, I forgot all about it because I am just having FUN.

Then it's the excitement of "What loot will I find?" I have over 20 hours in and I have yet to find any loot higher than Blue (The 3rd of the 5 Tiers). Even though I am not happy about that, It is not that bothersome, since with the gear I do have, I am able to deal with enemies my level.

Now, I must say that even though I have done the Dark Zone, and it's even more fun and anticipation because I am always on guard in case someone turns Rogue and or If the CPU controlled enemies will prevent me from Extracting my gear, it still does not matter because "I am still having fun!!!" So maybe if I do more Dark Zone stuff I might find some higher Tier gear?

The Key for me is that the Game is FUN!!!! Even though the Leveling up and Character Interface / Menu could be Way Better, once you figure it out you get use to it then it is easy to do what you needed.
The Melee is weak, and their are no Melee Weapons! Now that is weird, and one of the reasons I do not give it a 10.

There were times at first that I thought the PVE Enemies were stupid because when playing in a team, but then I remembered, this is a RPG and their is such a thing as AGGRO - so that is why he ran right past me to attack my team mate instead. Then I even realized that I had some gear equipped that lowered my "Threat Level"...

There is always something to do. I feel that my level progression is Good since the Max level is 30 and I am at level 18, Dark Zone level 11 and have my Base about 50% rebuilt and 62.50% of the "Main Story" complete! That is not 62.50% of the entire content complete!

Few more things that I do not like.

No FREE Guide - Even though I completed the Tutorial Missions, I didn't realize I was suppose to have learned something (since most of what it taught me were things that any 3rd person gamer would have most likely have understood).

Even though finding someone to Team up with is easy in the Game, why in the heck do I have to go into UPlay to send or accept friend requests? (Or do I just not know how to do it in Game).

The Que that I have ended up waiting in line for, that usually only happen for me after 6pm my time, so I'm sure it will be worse as more people get the game and especially weekend times. More servers is just the sensible thing to do!!! NOTE: I have never remained in que for longer than 2 minutes.

I have to say that for a new Online only RPG. The few minutes here and their that I have not been able to play due to Login or Server or Client issues have been VERY VERY VERY Impressive (so far). I got concerened when after after having to download a big patch at launch and then just 10 minutes in the game that I got kicked out and then all Uplay Servers where down, I started feeling stupid for believing in a Game on launch day, but in less than 30 minutes (but it felt like hours - lol) I was able to log back in and have not had any more issues since!

Since this Game did have a relatively - Short - Open Beta (but since it had one) most people that's interested in this game and have the Equipment to run it, (I'm talking about the PC version). They already know if it is the type of game they want to play!!!

The Key for me is - It Is FUN!!!!!!!!!!

3.) Missions are fun. All the missions are pretty fun. Side missions are okay but is more geared towards getting gear and blueprints. The game is laid out like this... there are regions many regions within the game with different lvl requirements. You jump from one safe house to another finishing problems the neighborhood has and doing encounters to unlock your skills/talents and technology for your base. I would say about 35 hours of gameplay for missions and single player

4.) The fights are fun. It starts pretty slow but soon enough you will have enemies coming from all directions with snipers in the back, assault/LMG in the middle and shotgunners charging you while grenades are being tossed to blow your cover.

    Cons:

1.) server issues... this will get better. I actually didn't have any issues lately
2.) end game is weak and the dark zone still needs some revamping but Ubisoft already laid out 3 paid expansions with content and 2 free expansions

Bottom line: World looks great. The gun fights feel authentic(some bugs with AI, but still tough at times). One of my favorite co-op games (Please find friends to play with). Lots of promising new content. It is worth the $48 I spent on the PC version download from GMG. I think you can get it for $44.

To me, it's worth the money. I have already had 35 hours of fun gameplay with friends. The story is great too if you pay attention to it. If you hate loot grind games like Diablo, Warframe, etc.. then I don't think it is worth it for you to get this game. I love loot games so I thoroughly enjoy it.

The RPG elements work almost seamlessly and in a very subtle way (that I suspect may be slightly too subtle for the people hating on the game). It gives you a vast choice of potential builds to play however you want to play, it's perfectly fine to play solo and even more fun to play as part of a group.

At this point you could say I got my money's worth and I did, but this game was advertised as an MMO shooter and once you hit a high level, there's no reason to continue playing, because there's nothing left to do except grinding in the dark zone and do repetitive daily missions.

The game also has some serious issues with cheaters, because so much of it is client-side.

The Division has unbelievable potential, but a poor delivery in some areas. I still enjoyed the time I played, but lost interest too much to buy any extra content.

UPDATE: With the recent patches (1.5) a lot of the game's issues have been improved and the game is really enjoyable. There's a scalable difficulty, good item progression, more activities and even performance and UI improvements. It's good to see that they keep improving the game and fixing stuff.

The Division is a beast withing itself. From the first moment you realize the game has started, to completing the missions and venturing deep into "The Dark Zone", I have never played a game where I am constantly amazed at facing whatever happens next.

Sure, the gameplay may be a little bit repetitive, but the developers truly spent their time with making sure that each occurrence in this game is unique and interesting, enough so that even though it feels a little repetitive at times, it truly doesn't interfere with my experience. Believe me, the last thing I want is another "destiny" and The Division really does stand on its own.

But in all seriousness, the reason I gave this game a 9 is because I thought I had seen it all. I thought The Division was just going to be another game I would pass on after playing it for about an hour. But no. I will be joining back in every day just to see what happens next, and I hope to see you there aswell.

    Breakdown:
Graphics: 10 - This game truly immerses you with the vast details of real life Manhattan.
Controls: 8 - Controls can feel a little clunky at times, but usually it can be fixed by adjusting the sensitivity
Story: 8 - Interesting enough that you would want to do everything, but not as immersive as Far Cry 3.
Gameplay: 9 - Repetitive, but each instance is unique in its own. Enough missions to last a long time.
Multiplayer: 8 - The Dark Zone is a beast if you are up to the challenge, and can be frustrating at times, but very rewarding
Immersion: 7 - Game can feel empty, but most story missions can be played with a match-made group.

    Overall: A generous 9, or a Solid 8

Should you buy? - If you like RPG's, MMO's, or 3rd Person Shooters, Yes. Everyone else, I would wait until it is on sale.

I would call it a good game that should provide a couple hundred hours of enjoyment at least. It's a fun shooter best enjoyed with your buddies. The graphics are butter smooth, and the attention to details like *auto run" are nice. The servers have been solid for me after the release day hiccup. The character skills and loot have depth (still discovering things). This game is not a grinder (Ark Survival Evolved is a grinder). It is a bit repetitive and the bad guys all look very similar. That said, much like in the Rainbow Six Vegas series that didn't matter, it was still a lot of fun to group up with buddies and throw bullets at bad guys. The bad guys are a bullet sponges by I personally enjoy that play once in awhile. Coming from playing ARMA III a military simulator where 1 well placed round kills you and you lose everything and must start from scratch. I found The Division to be a refreshing less serious shooter. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Ubisoft, and the fact that we have to tie a UPlay account to the game (even if somewhat automated through Steam) is lame. That said, reviewing The Division on the merit of the game and separating my opinion from the developer. This game is enjoyable. It has gaps, it's nowhere near perfect but what game really is. If you want to enjoy some co-op shooter play that brings you back to the good ol' days of Rainbow Six Vegas with some additional depth, The Division might be just what you are looking for. Expand

I have had some issues with graphics, and falling through the map, but nothing a few resets didn't solve. Did have a few server error messages early on, but seem to have been resolved.
Matchmaking needs some work, not as smooth as some other games, but it works, just have to be a little patient.

The graphics are fantastic best I have seen, New York atmosphere is really there (I have only been there once but then again I have watched a bunch of movies based in New York).
The game is not repetetive at all, it is a copy of New York in a realistic setting we don´t go to jupiter or fight in a jungle. But the big missions do a great job breaking up the world with more exotic locations.
There is a solid plan for their first year that have been communicated (check youtube). The season pass seems to be worth it. (havent bought it yet since I dont have the cash but I will as soon as I have money)

The Division is one of the fastest selling AAA games and will become one of the biggest brands in videogame history. It looks amazing in 4K and even on weaker cards; it runs immensely well. Ubisoft have completely obliterated the AAA market at last with a game people can finally be proud of.

If you don't like PVP you eventually won't enjoy this game. So lets get started. This game is a melting pot of multiple genres of games and gives off this jack of all trades master of non kind of vibe. The game itself takes place in a freshly Re-Uncivilized New York, that has been struck with a virus that broke down the city. Rioters roam the streets and the military can't control the violence. So the government calls in The Division: a group of elite soldiers, in an attempt to retake the city from the gangs. This is where the mission structure comes in. Most of the missions in the game have you going to a certain area, clearing out all the thugs there, fighting a boss, and getting loot. This same structure is used for almost every main mission. I feel this game is best experienced with a group of people that you play through the missions with. Ity doesn't even have to be the same group of people every time but I still recommend you play them with a group as it makes for a better experience. This is where the game being repetitive comes into play. As said the mission structure is almost the same for every main mission And for some people this is a huge problem. If you enjoy left 4 dead then you'll get what i am talking about. The story of the mission changes while the structures is basically the same. Which can really bother some people but as a person who grew up on beat em ups I don't bother it and I thinks it's part of the reason i enjoy the hell out of this game. The division Is a shooter with slight MMO elements and an RPG type loot and xp system. It's clearly built to be like destiny in a sort of way. The game has a HUGE area in which players can PVP in the Dark Zone. You can find better loot in the Dark Zone. (BTW know the command to do jumping jacks by heart.) The way the Dark Zone is set up to assure that you don't get screwed over by someone way higher level then you. The game itself looks beautiful even on the low settings the my 660ti can handle. I had minor problems when first starting up the game but those were fixed easily. Ubisoft is usually really good about making well optimized games. So my final Verdict? If you can't enjoy a game because its repetitive then this is definitely not for you, but if you think you'll enjoy it you probably will. Expand

The plot has you assume the role of a paramilitary agent and while while enjoyable, there isn't really a morale system or dialogue choices, just choices in the missions.. But that said i found myself abit confused the first few confrontations with the enemy, coming in quietly and observantly and struggling to come to terms while being in an open world as it is there is no option for stealth nor is it rewarded apart from triggering the next battle.. It's almost a sin in the world of MMO and classes and opens worlds to not have that freedom, a perplexing mistep, lazy even and I believe holds it back. The rest of the game becomes a borderland-esque mission fest.. it's only RPG as so much as picking what you wear and where you go next, and the game world feels fairly alive and interesting, most of all starkly beautiful.

(An important note: I think Ubisoft and Nvidia should be commended for this well optimised game, my pc didn't meet minimum specs.. lol and yet still it runs beautifully and i have fairly decent experience on low/medium with a late model GTX 570 and 2600k i7 running completely stock)

If you believe this is a twitch shooter in the ilk of COD or HALO, look elsewhere. If you are a Tom Clancy fan, this game is REALLY thin in terms of the Clancy universe and it's use of the license. In fact, I am still not sure why they decided to use the Tom Clancy brand for this game, other then for marketing purposes. If you saw the movie Contagion, then you know EVERYTHING this game has to offer regarding plot and story. However, what does make it effective; and even frightening; is that this is highly plausible today as well.

About the game, I was involved in the beta process and thought the game was thin and left a lot to be desired. The Rouge system and the Dark Zone were defiantly intriguing mechanics that the game offered and I thought there was true innovative potential to be had there. But after investing a fair amount of time into the game, and having 30 level maxed my open world agent and partaken in quite a bit of endgame content, this game is thin on content at the moment, but a surprising blast to play through. I found myself highly addicted and hooked, minus the repetitive nature to grind some of the supplies for the 3 wings.

I did buy the Season Pass, but I would recommend holding off on that until the first couple waves of expansions are rolled out.

The fusion between loot-shooter and open world RPG is both fascinating and interesting at the same time. I can see what Ubisoft had envisioned when developing this game and fleshing it out, but this vision is still a work in process.

New York being digitally rendered into the game is truly breathtaking, as are the various weather effects used within the game. This game might be a trend-setter for all to come in that department. How you progress through the game is well-handled as well; having to collect supplies to unlock various stages of progression in each of the 3 primary wings of your base; which is the post office located next to Madison Square Garden in downtown Manhattan.

Without droning on, or spoiling anything; I would highly recommend this game if you have a decent rig and like 3rd person shooters, open world explorers, or RPG progress-ers. If your a 1st person shooter fanatic, this game just isn't for you. Important to note, it is quite possible to beat the Open World portion of the game solo; but you will need to pair up with other agents if you wish to effectively tackle the endgame content. If this turns you off, also steer clear.
In closing, the loot system is great; very effective at awarding appropriate trinkets for the effort invested, and the story, while thin, is great at setting up the "world" of post-pandemic New York. The factions in the game are well fleshed out and utilized too; my favorite being the Cleaners, who are both menacing to look at, but hilarious to gun down.

For players who don't live in USA or Europe the ping in the darkzone can break your balls, like me. In the beta you could but items in the darkzone according to your level. Now you have only stuffs to level 30 and when you reach that and want to buy items there are only to level 50 (Darkzone level).
The only things it serves in the game are designs to craft materials and have better weapons or stuffs.
There is no DLC since I writing this review so I hope to enjoy more this game.

The missions are interesting, different, and the best part is playing them in hard mode, in COOP. Playing with friends is an awesome experience, funny and interesting. The Divsion is doing alot of things right, the atmosphere is out of this world. The Co-op is so much fun I could be playing it for days without it becoming boring cause you get a sense of achievement in this, specially when in a place called Dark Zone ( pvp ) and the adrenalin kicks in instantly when you are getting shot at by a full group of rogues (player killers.) Never have I seen winter that lovely created and never have I seen physics following that. Its marvellous to watch the blizzard come down onto the city making your field of view very realistic. There are so many small details that makes the game seem that it has been worked on for a while. The combat is solid and I may say that its the best cover third person shooter out there for now. The rest..you kind of need to experience it yourself. It is worth every penny and I recommend that you play this game with friends as the tactical play comes in great in numbers.

The game has some bad things going for it too but its not game breaking. The character creator is one of the worst things I have seen. There isnt much customization when you first create your character, thankfully you can follow that up with the wide veriety of clothes. But thats pretty much the only thing I would think is terrible. There are no bugs nor hiccups that I have seen.

This is a great game I think everyone should give a try. Atleast get it on sale cause this is the first AAA title in a long long time that Ubisoft helped in creating that is actually good.

Second thing the black zone is a fantastic experience that everyone should try, in this the division is one of the best games I've ever played much more than games like Dying Light and other crap like badlands.

Just remember this is not a tactical shooter, or any kind of shooting simulation.
This is a loot based game (like Diablo, Torchlight or similar action RPG's where you collect better and better gear as you progress) in a "real world" enviroment and GTA style combat with cover system (as in Mass Effect). You shoot things until they die. If your weapon DPS is weak, you will have to shoot longer in onder to bring their HP to 0, just like in other action RPG's.

Weapon variety is great, with ridiculous amount of different mods.

Potential of this game is just huge...but you need to try it to believe it, you will not be dissapointed! (unless you seek tactical shooting simulator).

A few months before the release I got into that Beta. I hated it, it was clunky, buggy and just overal sad. So I decide not to buy the game, since I'd probably never play it. But soon after, my brother managed to convince me to buy it anyway, so I was like okay what the hell. Lets do it. I don't regret it, even though this game frustrates me at times, but it's really enjoyable.

    PROS
The overall game play is just really enjoyable to me. I visited New York City once in my life, and its just fun too see the little things I still recognize. I really like the missions, and collecting different appearance items. And nothing is more enjoyable than bragging about a new cool piece of gear to my brother. The game is pretty challenging at times which makes it more fun. The skills are pretty cool, but I do feel like they could have done more. I could say something about the graphics, but I honestly do not care.

    CONS
The AI frustrates the hell out of me, even though the challenging part is fun. There is just something really annoying about fighting 6 Rikers in front of you and getting 6 other Rikers in your back because for some reason they feel compelled to fight you. Some AI just storm you whenever you in cover and shoot you from the side. Which kind of beats the purpose of cover. I personally don't enjoy the DZ, It's high risk high reward, but right now Rogue agents just swarm the extraction points and wait. And lastly, some missions trigger while walking, and you pull the mobs. Which is really annoying whenever you just want to do another mission. Yes i get that this is an RPG and that's just what happens, but in this game its just a little frustrating. There are still a few bugs, but I'm not going to judge the game on it.

It looks like they are improving, and I love to play this game, since i'm not paying monthly I don't feel forced to play it. So it's nice casual MMORPG shooter. Which i can generally recommend to people who enjoy these type of settings and games.

Im going to assume that, if you buy this game, you are commited enough to reach lv 30, where the "true" game starts. I'll be explaining that in a bit.
To keep this review short and easy to read im going to make a pro Cons list:

    Pro:
    - Very fun if you have 1-3 friends to play with.
    - Especially the Dark Zone, the PvP zone of this game, is great fun with a group. There, you and your friends can either become a hunter or the prey, depending on your tendency to kill NPCs or other Players for their Loot.
    - There is a lot to discover in the game world...
-... and a lot to marvel at. The graphics in this game are stunning if your gaming-rig can handle it (though the recommended specs arent that high)
    - Group play is challening on higher difficulties. The different skills you can chose from actually matter, if used right.

    Cons:

    - The setting of this game aims for a realistic style. Gameplay wise, this however poses problems in the long run in terms of variety and itemisation. Items most of the time fail to induce the craving to obtain them, since visually, they are limited to exisitng guns. While i dont expect guns that sparkle with fire or ice effects, some "oomph" is missing in that department (most of the time, the most unique feature of the highest quality guns is them having a golden skin.)
    - The story is lacking. Most of the time, you're going up against a specific boss in group missions. However, they mostly dont receive much exposition beforehand. So if you finally get "face to face" (its still a shooter, so chances are you wont see their face properly if they are 30m away), bosses will mainly only stand out because they have a name and drop more loot. What a missed opportunity.
    - While there sure is a lot to discover, i fail to understand why Ubi games in general, have the tendency to plaster the map with collectibles. There are more than 140 audiologs and some other stuff you can pick up. However, once you hit lv 30 the xp gain through these become obsolete. While they do tell stories, and help create atmosphere, almost every single audiolog is a self contained, albeit interchangable collectible. Collecting them isnt particularily fun, even as an optional goal. A more mission implemented apporach for those would have been much better.
    - Farming the Group missions on Lv 30 can really get repetitive after some time, since theres mostly no variation how encounters are handled. While weakpoints on enemies change, almost every mission simply consists of the game throwing enemies in your way. A more varied approach with bosses (like in the last mission) in particular would have done wonders.

So I was always looking for a game like The Division. And the mildly similar games out there now either have bad graphics for my taste, or are just too broken / hacked / or abused by veterans to be playable. The Division does not have these problems; it has amazing graphics that are also well optimized or tweaked that even my friend's old gaming laptop can run it (but barely), and it also works well enough from the first week of its release.

The Division is not perfect, though. It's definitely the answer to my long-endured gaming needs, but there is huge room for improvement. For that combination of feelings about it, I give it 8 out of 10. My biggest problem with The Division is that crafting relies on luck, just like dropped loot relies on luck; this is one of the strangest implementations of crafting I've ever seen in a game like this. Basically, after going through the tedious process of farming materials, you have to go through the largely frustrating experience of crafting a weapon or piece of armor, one after another, after another, maybe dozens of said pieces, until you can find, not the perfect combination of stats, because that's nearly impossible, but merely an acceptable combination of stats (and there are so many of them). Furthermore, upgrading crafting materials is not done in mass or bulk, but one after another, and you have to press two keys, hold down space and press Esc, every single time for every single piece you're upgrading. That...is not weirder and more stupid than the first problem of dependency on luck when crafting, but it's somewhere out there with the former in terms of giving the player a frustrating and tediously boring experience.

In short, the much, much needed crafting, because loot is wholly dependent on luck, is also dependent on luck and only luck! In other words, crafting is hopelessly broken in The Division, unless Massive suddenly decides to get sane and allow picking exact stats when crafting, even if the price is increasing the amounts of crafting material required when you're able to specify stats.

Because of the above mentioned problem, which Massive probably thinks is a profitable and addictive time sink (maybe addictive for masochistic gamblers, but definitely not normal people or gamers), experimenting or changing role in this game is a hopeless endeavor. Because if you really want to specialize as a healer or DPS or tank, then you naturally must be able to tweak your gear and specify every single stat on every single piece, but that's impossible with the mechanic of depending on luck. Accordingly, everyone is DPS in this game. Almost. And it's not fun to try to change because you cannot be powerful enough as a healer or tank with a large portion of your stats that are completely irrelevant to your other desired roles, and can never be changed. You can change (or recalibrate just one stat, no more).

Accordingly, without being able to experiment and change specialization or role, the game is fast coming to an end for end gamers. Massive is planning an update with “gear sets” in a few days, apparently sets that will help people specialize in things other than DPS, but they're almost all loot or drops from bosses, so again, people are forced to depend on luck or RNG, rather than on the targeted and sure way of farming lots of materials, but crafting exactly what one wants.

Other than the above, and the need for more missions (dungeons) and perhaps creative types of enemies, this game is amazing and exactly what I wanted. However, I agree with Angry Joe, the reviewer, about the Tom Clancy brand hurting the game; it's definitely hurting The Division. Because as repetitive as they have become, zombies would have been the most mind-blowingly awesome part of this game. Zombies would have added variety, and such different methods or tactics of gameplay in missions.

I don't think zombies will ever be added; they'r just not part of Tom Clancy's world or brand. But more missions and variety are certainly coming. So if I will stop playing this game and if I refrain from buying the Season Pass, then it will be for one reason: the frustrating crafting experience.

Overall, The Division's MMO aspirations tie its hands a bit and get in the way of its shooter personality and fundamentals. With friends, the flaws are easily overlooked as my friends and I have sunk 30+ hours into the game already between various modes and activities. Its an incredible experience and one that no one should miss. I just wish there was more variety to the leveling.

I don’t even see my face most of the time, so the lack of character customization does not bother me. I can still make a super-hot chick that decimates the weak.

-RPG: Once again if you read most of the reviews people cry about how simple the RPG system is. I agree it lacks real depth. You basically have three choices, tank, assault, and support. I know you can make a marksmen but I consider that to be a support or assault class. The RPG aspect of the game is just enough to give you some difference. It gives you the options to make a character that is not like everyone else. Sure some will be the same and some builds are better than others. I have not seen a build that hinders your ability to get through the game. All in all the RPG aspect of the game is good and enough for me.
-Graphics: The game looks amazing on my system. GTX780 on maxed out settings. I know this will change depending what card you run and the system. I can only speak from personal experience on my system. Sometime I catch myself just looking at lighting or water/ground objects. There is great detail in most items and structures. Overall the graphics are amazing and I could not ask for more. Enough said!
-Progression: The games progression flows well enough going through the first 30 levels. There is never a time where you have to look for something to do or grind like in a normal RPG. The missions are simple enough to find and as you progress and they become more difficult as you gain levels. Many people do not like the repetition factor. The main missions do not repeat at all. NO MAIN MISSION IS THE SAME. That being said I am speaking from the progression standpoint not endgame. Yes I know the side-missions are just different variations of the same 5-8 missions you come across. There is enough break in the side missions to where you don’t do the same per area. IE: Water missions, after the first few zones you don’t have to do one for a while. This is enough break for me to not get annoyed with side-missions while progressing. Level progression is seamless, and works out to where you are never behind and have to catch up to be able to move to the next area. Another thing about progression it is complete solo if that’s what you want. I don’t like playing with people all the time so the solo aspect of the game works for me.
-Combat: “This is where the game shines.” First let’s get the bad out of the way. The enemies are bullet sponges and yes the cover system and be a little clunky. Could you imagine if you killed an enemy with 1-5 bullets and bosses with 6-10 bullets? There would be no point in playing the game. When playing a shooter like this you have to expect the enemies to take a lot of damage. Second the cover system is good probable a 6.5-8 out of 10. I can count on both hands how many times my character has been stuck or messed up in some way with cover. A lot is user error, if you slow down just a little and plan out moves. You can easily cut the time you mess up in cover. With the two biggest complaints out of the way let’s focus on the good things. Pure and simple the combat is challenging and exciting. I have personally experienced multiple time where me and my group mates talked about how intense the combat sequence was. No two combat experiences will be the exact same. There are so many different ways to approach combat that it really lets you handle combat in a new and fun way every time. The cover system combined with the grenades and different character builds is refreshing and really showcases what is great about The Division.
-What I did not cover: I did not have much interaction with the Dark Zone. I have been in there for around an hour and from what I can see its going to be fun and scary all at the same time. It has a real Survivor feel to it and I am always watching my back. Especially when getting my gear out. I also just reached level 30 and only have a gear score of 145. So I am not sure how the end game will treat me or how much I will either hate it or love it. I have been on the grind for a week so I do have some experience, just not enough to commend on the end game at the moment.
-Final Thoughts: Overall the game is great for both players who solo and group. Great Graphics/combat. Some things need to be fixed, but overall it feels complete. I have only experienced two glitches so I can’t comment on them as they did not harm my game play all that much. The game is only a little over a month old. Give it sometime and I am sure it will become the masterpiece I know it can be.

It took The Division a lot of time to reach our computers and consoles, but it was worth waiting for. We have already spent about 200 hours with it collectively and we’re not planning on abandoning it, because it is, simply put, outstanding and shows amazing potential for the future. [05/2016, p.30]

An immensely thrilling action-MMO hybrid, but good for 30 hours rather than the hoped-for 300. [May 2016, p.70]
