While this game was in development phase, it gave me hope and i was quite anxious to see the end result. I kept telling myself that Ubisoft got over their half-assed ways of building a game and actually learned from the past "mishaps."

    Nope, far from it.
Now here we have it, a classic Ubisoft product: good looking and simply boring.

+graphics. Yea, they nailed the graphics with this one, even if they downgraded, it still looks good.
+atmosphere. You can easily get immersed in the desolate streets and you can feel the chaos caused by the viral infection.
+ the audio has some nice synthy vibes, reminds me a bit of John Carpenter's 80s flicks.

~ gunplay and gameplay in general. It feels responsive and really satisfying. The cover based system is more of a neutral for me, i got pretty fed up with it in Gears of War, so it's nothing new here. Heck, i think even Mass Effect had a more fluid cover system.

~ story is really not speaking to me. It feels like a filler, a "nice to have" fragment that keeps you somewhat motivated to push from A to B.

~bugs and glitches, more of a neutral stance with this one, because they will probably get fixed soon, but still, it would be nice if you stopped from falling into the map once every 2 hours or so.

    - mission variety is lacking and repetition is mind numbing. I keep hearing from a lot of people that it has a lot of content. Yea, more of the same is technically a lot of content, but the quality of said content is thrown out the window. This is where you will get most of your godawful Destiny flashbacks. It's quantity over quality in this segment. There are a few types of side missions that follow the same repeating patterns until you feel sick to your stomach.

-/+ PvP. Not much of a pvp person myself, i guess it could be a nice change of scenery for some people, i pesonally don't really care, unless i can get a few friends together and just explore the DZ for other types of loot.

    - crafting is useless. You can get better stuff from shops. It's a waste and a constant grind that i cannot stand in a game of this caliber.
    - character customization is shallow. I like to spend a bit of time to fool around with my character's looks, but there are not too many options here. It's a bit tiresome to see players that are nothing more than walking mirrors. I expected more out of this feature. Same problem is with the enemy npcs. They all look like xeroxed gang members, with very few exceptions. This is one of those things that break immersion.

All in all, this game looks good, sounds good, but it's bland as hell.
Very little depth and almost no variation, no innovation, nothing special to write home about.
I give this game a 6.5, it still has a lot of potential for the near future, but right now it is NOT worth 60$. No way.

Also, to the people giving this a perfect 10: you are being ridiculous.
I keep seeing these flimsy arguments like "CoD kids should look elsewhere." It's the tunnel vision fanboys that give this game more bad rep, praising mediocrity into the high heavens and getting buttblasted over honest criticism. I think people need to be more vocal and more constructive with their criticism, otherwise we'll keep seeing the same boring patterns in future gaming.

-grind-based game - The endgame is basically looking for better guns so you have an easier time finding better guns.
-the world feels empty and shallow. Fits the setting, but sucks.
-Walking around sucks because of the above reason
-Encounters and side missions are very similar to each other
-Story is also shallow, characters are bland

It is a good game, but at least in my opinion, the hype was large but the game is hardly innovative. As I said, the realistic setting is great, but spongy enemies are a big contrast to that. It makes the game feel weird, for me.

If you like third person shooters, lots of loot and RPG mechanics, this game will please you. It is very shallow, but it has the potential to become something very cool as time goes by. Lets wait and see.

I had already written one review on The Division around 2 months after it had released, I gave it a 5 then and since have had a change of heart in regards to that score. I had racked up 250 hours before writing the first review and have done considerable hours since.

Initially I had enjoyed playing this game, I'm not going to go into detail about that as it is in my initial review, I'm just going to concentrate on my experience after that which was not good. The game has so many flaws it really does beggar belief how it made it to retail, even now given the state of the game is should still not be released, bugs, exploits, glitches and the massively unbalanced nature of pvp, be it the glitch exploiters who farm the incursions for all the best gear or just plain cheaters.

When the Underground dlc dropped I was hoping that it would put the game back on track and fix some of the issues as well as give players some much needed variation, sadly after a week or so I realized that the Underground was also as linear as the rest of the game and just as tedious and repetitive. To make matters worse, the rewards for finishing in Challenging and Heroic were horrendously poor, the infinite grind (for me at least) was never rewarding. i tried pvp again and it was just as awful as last time, my character was reasonably strong 500damage and 400stamina yet while I was wasting masses of ammo clips on players, a few shots would always take me down, despite popping my alt and using the strengths of my build. Something was glitching or I was just always matched up against people who I had no chance of beating, the balance was way off, I lost interest after that and haven't been back since and I doubt I will.

I learned a valuable lesson though, never pre order and never buy dlc early, I threw a lot of money into this game and despite having done around 300 hours on it I still don't feel I have had my moneys worth. I should still be playing this game, sadly its faults are too big to be ignored and it just becomes boring, unrewarding and extremely repetitive to play. It's deleted from my hard drive and will probably stay that way.

So initially I gave it a 5/10, my experiences thereafter and the fact that fixes are still proving to be elusive have made me reconsider. I now give it a 1/10 and it can be lucky it got that 1 for the overall concept. The execution of everything in this game is what contributes to my new score of 1/10, shoddy, unfinished and extremely poor execution have sullied my perception of a game that initially at least I enjoyed.

Massive and Ubisoft promise fixes, sadly I have waited long enough and while 1.4 is imminent, sadly for Ubnisoft and Massive so is Battlefield 1, FIFA 16, Mafia 3 and a host of other games that will forever bury my interest in returning to this sorry spectacle of a game.

I seriously urge anyone who hasn't bought it yet to read extensively on it before buying or even better, get a hands on play from friends or something, I don't think it's current price is justifiable, especially when including the dlc. In fact, if I could I'd ask for a refund but I've already played too much of it. Be careful with this game and do your homework.

    1. Can't use my Crossfire set up, I have to disable one of the cards so I can play without having graphic issues. Yes my drivers are up to date.
    2. Endgame is bad and is unsatisfying, with a $60.00 price tag and to end it like they did, it burns me.
    3. Character Creation is basic, with all the work they put into the World, levels textures, lighting and effects, clothing and this is what you get, a few faces with a few hairstyles and tattoos?
    4. Really no replay value, unless you really want to replay the same mission over & over & over & over again with friends or without before moving off to another game.
    5. The Incursions are linear in design (what a waste with all that effort the DEV's did in building that world) .
    6. Pvp, Rogue, Crafting and Loot system is broken and terribly unbalanced, plus there is really no point to make the effort to grind at all in the Dark Zone. Especially if your a new player trying to grind solo for better equipment or to complete your DZ daily mission or trying to grind to craft better equipment. Check the Steam forums for additional problems
    7. Enemies re-spawning / appearing out of nowhere (DZ is really bad).
    8. Boss's in the game are just bullet sponges and it gets worst as the player progresses in the story. Instead of one magazine worth of bullets in the beginning and by the time player hits the middle of the story, it would take about 5-10 magazines worth of bullets. By the time the player is near the end of the story, they will need a restock box to refill their inventory of bullets.

This game doesn't deserve the Tom Clancy's title

On top of that, they seem more interested in punishing people who find and exploit the numerous glitches in the game rather than focusing on improving it and admitting they released a buggy mess. Don't bother with this game until 6 months have passed at least. And absolutely skip the Season Pass. The enemies are very repetitive, and again very stupid. The gangsters running around 'popping caps' and taking about 384 bullets to kill seems really daft. With a team of people it definitely has fun moments, but I would never want to play this solo.

If the enemies were varied, the voice acting wasn't THE WORST, the AI was smarter, the story was better this game could be amazing. It's a great concept done very averagely. Here's hoping Ghost Recon Wildlands is done right!

I will carry on playing this - but I'm not overly impressed.

I give it 2/10 only for the nice visuals and athmoshpere before you get into the end-game called "Dark Zone".
In theory DZ is great concept of PvPvE area where you meet other agents, cooperate to defeat hard mobs and someone may be tempted to turn against you for a pvp combat to get your loot. Then they have to deal with the other agents nearby who will try to hunt them down.

In theory DZ is great concept of PvPvE area where you meet other agents, cooperate to defeat hard mobs and someone may be tempted to turn against you for a pvp combat to get your loot. Then they have to deal with the other agents nearby who will try to hunt them down.

    Thats about the theory...

In practise, the DZ is a place where you will loose your faith in humanity. If you are nto enjoying backstabing, betraying and murdering innocent people, you will be the one who gets backstabed, betrayed and murdered even by those who could have died by your hand multiple times if you only wished so, but you didnt cause you dont like it, and was sure they will be a little gratefull for that - what kind of person murder someone who just helped them, right?

Devs really made a great arena for all kind of sociopaths. People who run around there, will always murder anyone weaker than them (2v1, 4v1, 4v2 and so on...), having delight in backstabbing and nuking people within so little time, there is no way to even call it a combat.

Deserted lands of Darkzone completly negate the theory of high risk and high reward for the rogues. Rogues who within short time will become "non-hostile agents" again, safe from any form of justice and retribution.

So you have to strip the DZ end game of the illusion of some advanced systems of risk, rewards and retributions, and call it what it is: A very beautiful in terms of visual, but crude, clunky, unbalanced pvp shooter, where everyone will backstab you if you dont backstab them. So if you arent sociopath, you wont have fun. You need to know that once you reach endgame you must forget about the lore, the visuals and the concept of the Division agents - it ends there. Insetad you will just hear the proximity chat of some weird sounding people acting like psychopaths. Its disgusting place to be in. There is no game to be found there, its more like social experiment where people with absolutely no moral code dominate the ones who wont act like serial killers.

You just reached extraction point and see 2 people loosing to the NPC waves, one of them down on the ground? If you wont execute them on sight, you lose, becouse if you help them, after you all finish the mobs, they will kill you. If you arent cold blood psychopath you are free kill loot hoarded. Why free kill? Becouse when smoene decide to murder you, it happens in 1-2 seconds.

The Division is an odd mix of an ARPG Lootershooter and an MMO, without ever truly being either due to a woeful lack of meaningful character customization and loot. The best description of the game really is a shell -- because it could have so many great things, but instead it gives you 3 and you do them over and over for 30 levels in pve, and 50 or so of them in pvp.

The pve mode is enjoyable, but prepare to do a lot of the same things over and over with a different voice telling you what you're doing. 5-6 side quest missions per area with a different voice over in each area, and a main-story-ish mission per area... and when I say main story, I mean something vaguely linked to the last thing you did in the area to try and save the city.

Pvp is incredibly lackluster, and suffers from typical problems -- no balance between weapons and skills leading to a dominant weapon type and skill set, oh.. and it only really exists in the "dark zone". Sure, it sound ominous but it really means about 8 blocks worth of area you have to repeat kill stuff in for 50 levels. Yes. 50.

End of the day Destiny is a far better game, but it lacks the gritty ambiance of The Division -- which on systems that can support 4k resolutions looks fairly amazing. The problem with the game is what rests on the inside, and in that space there just isn't that much to do.

The perks and talents affect your character with the all the talents being different with some being better than others. The perks are unlocked by upgrading you Base of Operations. The guns and armor can all have different perks and that is nice as you will hardly ever find the same piece with the same buffs but there are so many that it is difficult to completely customize your character the way you want as there can sometimes be to much to control. The "story" mission are fun and interesting with all of them being different but it lacks interesting characters on the "good" side with some of the "bad" guys being unique and interesting. The world it is in has a very depressing and ominous feel to it when you discover things like mobile recordings and echo's. The collectibles are cool and give a back story to a game that has no story but there is so much to collect that sometimes it can get annoying when the next one is on the other side of the map.

Next is PVP which isn't the best but can sometimes have fun moments. However, the problems are numerous and even with the recent patches there are still huge problems. I feel like enemies don't spawn outside of landmarks which forces you to fight extremely hard enemies that are like Chuck Norris on speed. Also, don't bother going in solo as every enemy will kill you in seconds and you can be an easy target for rogue agents. The drops in general are OK but I find it annoying that I get greens or blues when I have full purples as there is no point in picking them up as you can only carry 7-9 items that you should save for purples or yellows. This game is OK but there are many problems with it and the problems are easy to fix with a few patches but we shouldn't have to wait 1-2 months before we get the game we were meant to get. It is a trend that could severely damage the industry.

    Thanks for reading.

-The cover system is utter garbage and very confusing...you'll often have to break out of it just to move to another place to take cover.
-The A.I. is awful. They don't even know how to react to the players so they either charge at you or stay behind cover as you blow them away.
-The enemies are generic and pretty much the same.
-The side missions of the game are all the same thing:
    1. Rescue hostages
    2. Defend your Position
    3. Kill enemies located in a specific area
-The shops are awful. Everything sells for too low of a price(Or everything costs too much. Depends on which side you'll take).
-You cannot trade with other players....I am serious.
    -Character creation is very limited.
    -Glitches, glitches everywhere.
-Uplay(It adds DRM to the game :/)
-Exploring the open world is actually pointless as whatever you pick up consists of mostly the same thing(Unless it is for crafting but no one crafts anything).
-The crafting system is useless as you can buy much better gear from the stores :/
-Grinding is useless as getting experience takes quite a while(Unless you do those big missions...but they are quite boring as well).
-Graphical downgrade from what was shown..yadadadada!
-Gear pretty much looks the same(Excluding the guns and the appearance choices).
-There's barely any late game content except the dark zone...which is basically the rest of the game but with PvP and no quests-Oops I mean "Side Missions"
-There are only THREE classes! THREE! When most MMOs have more than that(And yes Destiny may have had three classes but those classes had three varieties...something The Division doesn't)
And the ultimate sin is that The Division is basically a modern Destiny clone in essentials. If you want a good MMORPG go play something like Warcraft, or Archeage. This is just another Ubisoft game made to steal your money.

If Tom Clancy was still alive he'd be sad to see what Ubisoft has done to his name

however, for me it just doesn't all come together to make a great game.
the graphics, whilst pretty, just aren't very exciting. both characters and environments are constrained by 'realism' - ie, greyness. which just isn't very interesting. yes there's a variety of different cosmetic items you can wear! but... what's the point? you don't notice them on other players, so why would they notice them on you?

the weapons all end up feeling the same, with the exception of sniper rifles and shotguns. there is generally little to choose between smgs, assault rifles and lmgs apart from the their dps stat. which is the only real difference between the gun i started with and the gun i'm using now. obviously, because its 'realistic' all the guns look basically the same too.

the story, so far at least, feels very lacklustre - mostly because it seems you start already knowing all about the outbreak! there's no mystery - you know that some mad scientist type put the plague together and infused it in dollar bills that he then spent on Black Friday. There's no real urgency to finding a cure/vaccine, since it seems very straightforward to not catch it anyway.

the gameplay is very repetitive. every mission is just 'go here kill some people'. though there are elements of hacking and investigation they don't entail you actually doing it - they entail you standing in the correct spot and pressing F. this wouldn't be such a problem if the environments and enemies were more varied (a la destiny), but they're just not.
the bullet sponge enemies are also not fun, and fit in with the overall feel of the game. with so much of the game seeming to attempt realism, why have boss enemies that take hundreds of shots to the head to kill? i can forgive this in Destiny, due to the futuristic/alien aesthetic, but in The Division it just feels silly and out of place.

the bugs - well it wouldn't be a modern AAA title without bugs, would it. whether its that you can't start the game properly (sound plays, but no video) or you fall through the floor, you'll be sure to encounter something.

if you like destiny... stick to destiny. i was hoping this would be a suitable PC replacement for destiny, but its just not.

    (I'd say it's a 7.5 out of 10)
After a full 2 day live stream I've gotten pretty far in the game. At first I agreed with the comments about this game being repetitive and would have given it a 5 out of 10 but this is definitely one of those games where it gets better much later into the game.

As you uncover more of the story you start fighting against tougher enemies and the objectives start to change a bit. It still suffers from the majority of the missions being similar but I will say the game is a lot of fun once you've settled in.

Story as you expect from Tom Clancy games is pretty good. The shooting controls feel just fine for a 3rd person shooter, with the option of going 1st person using scopes. You can mod weapons, collect gear, change your appearance and build up your skills.

Matchmaking makes the game a lot of fun, and I recommend putting it on harder difficulty settings cause it's too easy on normal. The map isn't too big but it's big enough. But you should know this is the very definition of a cover shooter. You even have abilities that let you create cover. Taking a lot of hits will kill you very fast, but if you use cover and use your abilities optimally you won't encounter too much difficulty.

All in all it's a fun game to play with some friends... but I would recommend maybe waiting for it to go on sale or wait till they add more content. It isn't breaking new ground but it's not completely unoriginal. It's good, not great but good.

Ubisoft's reputation for repetition will only get worse thanks to this game. It sucks cause their games are visually impressive and they're well designed too. I just wish they would put a little more creativity into the objectives.

Hackers. More hackers. Oh, did I mention hackers? The game is fun, but not when dealing with hackers in the dark zone. If you really want to enjoy the game without this garbage, play it on console.

I really was hoping for this game to be a good one.
But 30 hours in game and there is no endgame.
The dark zone as a pvp area is very disappointing due to the fact, that the penalties for pvp are so high, that nobody ever does it. And if you shoot another player, you will be killed by 20 others. To summarize: Pros: +absolutely astonishing graphics even with a bad pc like mine

    Neutral:
Enemies are bulletsponges (like it should be in an rpg)
Slight lag issues and minor bugs (like falling under the ground happened 3 times in 30 hours)
    Cons:
-no actual end game content (you are restricted to run through the same instances in order to grind for gear)
    -no pvp possible atm

Firstly I would like to say that ubisoft is among my least favorite developers. I sincerely dislike all copy-paste-and-boring assasins creed incarnation, far cry (ecxept the first and the third one which was kinda fun because of the story and atmosphere).

Despite my opinion about ubi I honestly think that The Division is a very enjoyable game with fun mechanics, beautiful graphics

Despite my opinion about ubi I honestly think that The Division is a very enjoyable game with fun mechanics, beautiful graphics (despite the downgrade) set in an amazing open world with phenomenal atmosphere (I have to admit that I love post-apo). I played 11 hours so far earning 10th level (and also 10th dark zone rank). I did both solo and group and had a blast! I loved the rpg mechanics, the gun feel, sounds, destroyable surroundings (try shoting bricks, windows, display elements, wood, etc.) Met few nice gamers today and we rocked the dark zone killing rouge agents, mobs, extracting loot, doing few campaign missons.

All in all the game is very good. It's not perfect (the story is ok but nothing more) and definitely is much more fun with a group of friends (although it's very easy to meet people in the game) but it's a solid 8.5/10. See you in dz.

9/10 and the reason for the subtraction is due to the repetitive PVE content in the game. Although it's not as bad as Destiny's PVE on launch, it's very close. If I have to setup another damn antenna on a roof I'm going to punch a baby.

The optimization needs some work as I currently have a top of the line machine and I sometimes see my fps drop below 60 at times. (i7 6700k 4.5ghz,

Love the weapons in the game, talents, perks, etc, and I still have no idea what bindings I'm going to set for all the cooldowns. I'm enjoying the game so much that I haven't even had time to set correct bindings for things :)

Great game overall! I've already put 60+ hours into the beta and about 8 hours into the full game.

    Here's to another 200+ hours!

I made this account just so I could write these words here.

This is an "ok game". It's a cover based loot shooter with rpg progression. There is nothing special here. If you enjoy repeating the same actions over and over again in perpetuity then this game may very well be for you. If not, then it most likely is not. Nice graphics and such... but that's pretty much it. I mean there are

Mediocre game, definetely. Was very promising and there was a lot of hype with it, instead what do we find? A game that is repetitive like no other game, very linear, boring character developement system... nothing on the game is too interesting to want to play it more than a couple hours.

Very beautiful but at the same time boring and repetitive game with flawed pvp system that is easily exploited by many. It's not an "RPG" game by any means and don't get fooled by that. You walk, shoot, reload, restock, repeat. Main missions are rather interesting but I can't say the same about side missions and encounters which are exactly the same in every single district. Many design mistakes in the mechanics prevent from really enjoying your progress (ie. unable to use good DZ gear unless you are DZ level 30 even despite you are let's say still at normal level 15 or 20 or anything else). I hope endgame is not that dull as getting there.
From technical point of view - I can;t say a single bad word - works with no flaws, no hangs or sudden fps drops, I once got stuck in a box and the game detected it and fixed my position right away.

Game-play is super fun and the world is beautiful. Coop is some of the best I've played in a recent game. It does however sometimes get a little repetitive however during a long solo play session, but finding a good piece of gear brings you right out of it.

Well, dept, substance, and support to name just three. Depth; the game lacks anything to drive players to play past the point that all three systems are at 100%. The dark Zone is full of boss fight experiences that will keep you occupied for about 2 days, after that you are mindlessly running around killing the same old guys and encountering players. Substance; The game feels hollow after you get a good bit of gear the daily hard missions can be soloed in 10 to 15 minutes. The daily challenging is a bit harder but a group of three player can clear them in about 35 to 45 minutes. Support; This is UBI's weakest point in any endeavor. Armor and health exploits in the Dark Zone that allows the unscrupulous player to have endless armor and health and players teleporting to and fro leading to super villain antics of "Poof, I shoot you and take your stuff." Known issues such as daily missions that won't reset for days on end leading to the inability of players to acquire the much needed resources such as in-game credits and crafting materials. These are problems that are known issues and UBI seem to do nothing other than lead their player base to wait for days on end for simple solutions. But hey they are bringing out their first part of "Incursions". Steer clear of this and all UBI titles as long as you can....if you need to fill your gaming void, go play Plants vs Zombies as it is less repetitive than The Division. Expand

200+ hrs on record (incl. beta)

SP: Average before reach level cap, strongly repetitive and bored after that.
MP: Multiplayer game full of glitches without ANY anticheat implemented. Should I say more?..

P.S. Also, the way Ubisoft and Massive treat players community leaves a lot to be desired. That's unsatisfactory.

Although... 2 points for graphics :)

It took The Division a lot of time to reach our computers and consoles, but it was worth waiting for. We have already spent about 200 hours with it collectively and we’re not planning on abandoning it, because it is, simply put, outstanding and shows amazing potential for the future. [05/2016, p.30]
