The only thing I don't like is the absence of the original first part. I never wanted the second part, just to improve and expand the first The division. I still play 1 - 1300 h +, 2 - 600 h +.

Game is great. Really shows Anthem what a looter shooter is. Great level design, great content, hours and hours of playtime. Excellent job listening to feedback Massive, i hope they dont listen to content creators on youtube and ruin the game. They know nothing and are the biggest cancers in the industry.

A great game that is as big and complex as you want to make it! Do the campaign only if you want, do the end game if you want, do pvp if you want, but even for the campaign it's worth the $60. Would be 10/10 had it not been for the randomizied cosmetic loot boxes and the small weird bugs like enemies teleporting.

Great Looter-shooter, the Devs really heard the players and it seems that the game has a lot of improvements since The Division 1 (TD1).

I'm currently at lvl 22, had a couple of bugs on PC but the patches they apply are on spot and they are fast so everything runs smoothly if you give them some time. Remembering the launch of TD1, it had a lot of lag issues and errors like the delta 3 and bugs, but this game shows that they have learned from the past and they have outdone themselves.
    Pros:
-Story is great so far, I really liked the TD1 for this, and in TD2 is done perfectly, continuing the story and checking on data from the past.
-AI is challenging at some points (Like in the Dark Zone), they always try to flank you, not the best way they can, but it doesn't feel boring engaging in combat.
-Types of enemies, we have a LOT more enemy classes than before and that's a great addition.
-Collecting items and doing events doesn't feel like a chore, it's always cool to walk around and help some people.
-The feel that everything is alive, the people that helps you, that are roaming and enemies that appear out of nowhere.
-You need to be tactical, plan your way through, set your skills and then engage. You can go straight to a fight, but you probably will die. Stay in cover and check your surroundings.
-The loot, is everywhere, weapons, armor, mods, skill upgrades, and clothing.
-Micro-transactions are done right, you can get keys to open boxes just by playing, and you only get emotes, clothes or skin modifiers for weapons and I believe for skills too. Perfectly done, not invasive or game changing.

    Cons:
Minor bugs (With skills) that already were patched.

A must play if you are into the Shooter-looter games.

I expected a lot from The Division 2 and the game delivers.

+ Awesome gunplay. Shooting, movement and skills are snappy and fluid. + Better enemy AI than TD1, more interesting fights, less bullet-sponginess. + The game is more challenging. You can die easily when you don't take care and it's great. Cover and positioning are very important. + Extremely varied and interesting mission

+ Extremely varied and interesting mission locations.
    + A metric **** ton of content.
    + Good loot and progression.
+ Very good graphics for the most part.
+ Great audio (gun sounds, music).
+ The story is a bit better than in TD1, but you still shouldn't expect too much. A lot of the immersion comes from interaction with the world rather than the story.

    - The item system is crap. It takes way too much time to sort items, especially mods. Skill mods are completely useless as items and could have been implemented in a dozen better ways.
    - Some of the UI needs work.
    - There's little incentive to free roam coop, because you only get XP for stuff you haven't done already.
    - Protagonist still can't talk. Hurts the immersion quite a bit.
    - Character creator could be improved: More hair and beard options. Sort colors properly. And don't use the term "body type" instead of "gender".
    - Frequent crashes with DirectX 12 renderer on some CPUs.

Verdict: I got exactly what I wanted - more of the same as TD1 with improvements in the right places.

You feel the impact you make on the world by interacting with it, and the world continues to change when the game is over, there is nothing static about the division 2.

A big improvement over the original, with a more vibrant world that feels more organic and alive than NY (not sure why people are hating on this game being more colorful, go figure).

The story is crap but honestly who plays a looter shooter (or any dungeon crawler) for the story? The gameplay is intense and challenging enough to stay fresh even when the missions all follow a fairly generic "Go to X and kill Y" formula. The enemies are much less spongey than in the D1, and the beefy boys all have weak spots or strategies that you can use to take them down without having to unload several hundred rounds into them. The AI has definitely upped their game, and if you don't pay attention to baddies trying to flank you will die every time. Gun play is hugely improved and it actually feels like there is a variety of weapons instead of just the same gun with a bunch of different skins.

Lots of progression, great multiplayer in the dark zone, and the matchmaking system adds a smooth and convenient way to find people to play with if you are a big loser with no friends. On that note, I think solo is honestly easier than with friends unless you all are the same level, because the scaling system does not compensate as much as the increase in enemies when you are in a group. Missions are memorable and with cool set pieces instead of just the same series of corridors and open spaces to fight in. Just feels like there is a lot going on. I got tired of the first game fairly quickly but after reaching 30 last night in D2 I can't wait to keep going.

My only real complaint is the UI, which is admittedly terrible. So much crap on the screen at once, tough to navigate, and a lot of rewards and progression screens are buried behind this clunky and cluttered system, etc. Hopefully they can work on improving it because it really is a mess. But beyond that the Division 2 is a winner IMO, and better than the other offerings (destiny, anthem, borderlands) in the genre.

Currently, the game seems a little more challenging. The AI is definitely improved, and actively attempts to flank more frequently than DIvision 1's AI.

Inventory management is improved, though attachments are potentially one of the only side-grades from Division 1 - each attachment has a positive AND negative effect (almost in equal measure, sometimes). Early on, I've found this sometimes negates bonus to little overall gain.

When playing with my friend during early access, he made the comment, "This is sort of like the games we used to be excited for." I can't agree more. There's content here. It feels like it's a worthwhile product, right out of the "box."

If you didn't like Division 1, you won't like Division 2. But it does sound like Massive really listened to the fanbase and made meaningful improvements on their already-existing system. Because the project is attached to Ubisoft, however, expect plenty of illegitimate/fake bomb reviews.

I definitely recommend this game for people who either liked the later iterations of Division 1 patches, or for those who are looking for a fleshed-out looter shooter!

I have however, very few quarrels with this looter-shooter. The loot from bags and suitcases seems a bit silly (a crayon, a pencil etc.). I mean...a suitcase would normally contain more clothes and a bag would perhaps contain a bit more than a single crayon. This however is not enough to drag down the score. But the fact that enemies are still quite bullet-spongy is reason enough for me not to give it a max score. Overall an excellent looter-shooter with tons of interesting content. Well played Ubisoft. It's smoother to play, consistently loads, doesn't over-buff enemies making them bullet sponges, and simplifies the complicated stats system that required a couple high-level statistics and probability classes to understand fully. It's basically what the first Division game should have been from the start and it was extremely imperative that Ubisoft didn't repeat history or the IP would have been lost for good. But what it doesn't do is refresh the gameplay to the point where this feels like a new and improved Division experience. Nothing feels radically better and I'm kind of bugged by that. It would have been nice for the developers to consider what steps could be taken to tighten up the gameplay a bit more and whether some new creative license could be used to make the skills system more impacting and varied. There's also the issue that i have in that the stats system seems to almost get oversimplified to the point where it's basically Division stats for dummies, vol. 1 and I don't really like that. I prefer the simpler version to the super complicated one but having the ability to deeply craft your agent's abilities and effectiveness in different ways is a big part of what makes any RPG game highly replayable and unique. Despite some of my wishes for changes or different paths for design in this game, it's largely a good game and while I don't feel excited to jump in to it like I did the first game I largely enjoy it. The biggest reason to buy this game is the lengthy campaign and deep, varied endgame content which transforms your general playable world and introduces you to tougher enemies and new specialization skills and weapons that at least offers some differences in gameplay but not in ways that radically change how you play - they're mild changes but they do have appeal and that's at least a good start. Then there's the guarantee that year 1 DLC is all free and Ubisoft has suggested that there will be 3 nice-sized expansions to Division 2 post-launch before it offers what is probably going to be a big expansion pack a-la Destiny's Forsaken, but what's nice to know is that these smaller DLC packs that are free will advance the storyline of the base game as well as introduce new missions and endgame content.

If you loved The Division's 1.8 patch then you'll love Division 2 which essentially takes everything that Ubisoft learned from the first game and applies that knowledge to the second game. If Ubisoft plays their cards right then Division 2 should have a longer shelf life, giving players 2-3 years of meaningful content to play post-launch and that would be a huge win in an era where nothing is truly free and DLCs are more of an afterthought or gimmick than an essential extension of good core games.

Now, some actual review comments. Yes, it seems a bit like Division 1.5, but that isn't a bad thing. While it took a while, Division 1 made itself into a very solid game with a large amount of content. Division 2 has taken that progress and leaped a bit further ahead. The mechanics are more refined, time to kill is improved, and the murder for loot dynamic is completely intact. The DC recreation is superb, just as New York was in the first game.

Are there are few misses? Sure. The weapon mod screen sucks. Don't know how they screwed that one up, since Div 1's was fine. The menus are chunky, at best, and need to be improved. But they do work. Overall, the game is very playable and requires more tactical consideration than the first game. If you want to run around like Rambo and shoot everything in the face, this isn't the game for you. If you want to be required to think through a fight, watch your flanks, displace to avoid grenade spam, establish crossfire positions and utilize group dynamics and teamwork, then you need look no further.

A improvement over The Division (after update 1.6) in every single way. A tactical rpg looter shooter that is an absolute blast to play.

It's just like Division 1 with a couple of patches and upgrades.

This game is also rather challenging, the right kind of challenging. You get punished if you make mistakes. I've haven't had any technical issue so far, so that's a good thing.

The sheer terror of the dudes with full body armor and a chain saw.

My only complaint would be the choice to make your character mute, I hate this so much, watching myself nod along without ever saying a word makes me less interested in the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The division 2 is like four games rolled into one. First is the main story from level 1-30. This part is engaging enough to keep you involved and is a nice continuation of the division 1. The world is very believable and overwhelmingly detailed. If you play this game as a solo action game, you will have lots of fun. I played this part twice and think it is one of the best shooters out there. The second part is basically from the start of the black Tusk invasion until you reach item level 500. This is still entertaining, even if the story makes no sense at all and is obviously the result of having spent so much of the budget on the world that it had to be reused. So you cover mostly the same area with bigger enemies and bigger usually just means more armor and hp, not more challenging in their strategies. The third part begins when you hit item level 500 and start to optimize your gear. This part is based on the believe that randomness of drops is the key to keeping the players playing. I found that part very boring. The itemization has always been overly complex but because of the fast progression their was no need to care, now it becomes a pain. Players are basically set on a rotation and may hope to get in hundreds of drops one which is usable. You spent a silly amount of time in emptying your inventory and checking gear. So most players use groups to go through the necessary steps faster. But because the AI isn't really scaling and the game is only throwing more and harder mobs at you, the encounters become just mindless slaughter feasts. In my opinion this part is rather broken.
I have never played an MMO which was less social: Most people don't even bother to read their chat, maybe because the chat server is down quite often.
Ah, yes, the 4th game: pvp. Just not my cup of tea, so I tried it out, but not enough to have a solid opinion on it.
All this sounds more critical than it should: Especially the first part is awesome. Some of the fire fights are the best I ever had with npcs and the immersion works incredibly well. Because the world is packed so dense with items to discover and nps and events, you really have the feeling of a city under siege, even if obviously it gets repetitive after a while and the crowdedness can have strange side effects, for example spawning a new group of mobs in your back during a fire fight or informing you that there is a friendly control point nearby every time you left one.
Episode 2 is not changing a lot. The story gets some additions, but the writing is even less impressive. The new areas are great and quite challenging on the other hand. So challenging that coop becomes the standard way to do this.

Generally a good game, lots of content, non intrusive micro transactions for aesthetic goods though I do wish there was more of a choice at the start. If i want my agent to be slightly tubby like me than I should have that choice and just give me some jeans and a black t-shirt for Christ sake.
The cover mechanic can be incredibly annoying at times when trying to move away from cover.

I don't think the story is particularly solid, there's not much narrative in it unlike the first game. We seem to ave done a swap, game mechanics for story. I have also found occasionally my agent has to run so far to get places, the safe houses are not ideally positioned in some cases.
You will never be bored though there is always something to do, I have 10 hours and only completed 4 missions, I spent the most time doing side missions and projects and all the other cool stuff you can do.

Expand

My only gripe with this game is story, for a Tom Clancy franchise I would hope for a better immersion on the story, it's better then the last one for sure, but its not up to par either.

Although Manhattan maybe was more cool in a sense i just feel that the new summer setting and change of location and factions makes the game worth to play, even if you played the prequel.

Loot is everywhere and you feel rewarded by every mission. Alot of time is just spent by changing different loadouts and equipment due to the high amounts of loot, which is good.

The AI can be a bit weird sometimes but they try to flank you and most of the time it works really well.

The endgame has really been revamped and looked up upon. Once you hit lvl 30 and begin the endgame alot of the game opens up and you progress through World Tiers by doing strongholds.

The game isn't perfect though, it has its flaws. The PVP for me is just a mess right now especially in the occupied dark zones where the stats are basically the same as in PVE which means that all the damage that you do in PVE you do in the DZ. This enables people to make insane builds and just shred everybody in seconds. If you liked the darkzone experience i would highly recommend you to not enter the occupied darkzones and instead go and play in the normal darkzones due to the the normalisation in stats.

The story was bland and boring. The characters were forgettable due to the lack of personality. Missions were pretty repetitive, but the locations made it interesting. In conclusion the campaign just felt very lackluster and boring all the way through the only thing that made it a little bit interesting was the change in enviroments between missions.

As for gameplay I’m not a fan of cover based shooters but overall shooting mechanics feel satisfying. And progression system gives an opportunity to adjust your build to your preferences. Speaking about “bullet sponge” concerns of a big number of players , I didn’t notice it much during early access as common “red bar” enemies may be killed sometimes in number of two for one clip of my gold ak-m.

Also need to mention that in pvp some guns had been balanced since beta which is good news.

As for cons of the game, for a new player it may seem complicated at first as the number of player stats are dumped at you without much explanation how it is better to manage them, but after some time it becomes more understandable.

Looks like microtransactions are just cosmetics (as for now) that maybe earned at random through finding them in missions and open world, and also through loot boxes, that are also earned for leveling/completing certain objectives.

Overall, Division 2 is a refreshing game after recent fails of some looter-shooter and open-world games that I will not name.

As someone that's played over 700 hours (according to steam) I had a love hate relationship with the first one.

Leveling was great experience but only so-so for a solo player sometimes. RNG was a **** and meta's were the norm. There was pretty much only one best in class weapon, and most end game gear sets were nothing to write home about. NPCs were bullet sponges most of the time and would use horde tactics to overwhelm players.
And the bugs? Well those were the stuff of legends and exploits. Lastly and my biggest complaint the NPC spawning system was really punishing, especially at end game if you played solo. Well they did try to address much of the problems in the first game some still persist even today.

The second game is a vast improvement on the first in many ways. I've been able to solo up to level 20 so far without any problems. NPCs are less bullet spongy and tactics over just bouncing around has become a viable game mechanic. Bad RNG well still a problem seems better. But the crafting and modding system so far seems whittled down to a point where we really don't need it TBH. The missions are reasonably different, but not as varied as the first IMHO. The environment seems both more and less alive. There are no random people just walking around and everyone is in a militia type group. Also the litter is a bit overdone IMHO.
The developers have added a few new interesting gameplay elements and have brought over many that they introduced later in the first game. Lastly the bugs. It's pretty much the same story there. Way too many have slipped through Q&A. Even game breaking bugs that just shouldn't be in the game still. There are a couple of "projects" I can't complete due to the bugs. Like I said game stopping. I would of scored it a point or two higher based on the gameplay, my enjoyment, and all the improvements over the first one. But with the amount of bugs there are I just can't in all good conscious.

But overall the game is a worthy successor to the first and if you liked it I'm fairly confident you'll like the second too. Just don't expect a perfect game. It has just as many warts as the first one did at launch. Let's hope this time the developers fix most of the problems before everyone deserts the game like they did the first one.

Honestly if you like looter shooters then you'll generally like this game. I picked it up when Ubisoft decided to have the Ultimate edition on sale for $12. That was a heck of a deal and worth every cent as far as value. While I ultimately don't greatly enjoy the combat for a long term game to play it was alright to romp around D.C. That being said let's get to the meat of the issue:

The god awful plot, characters, and setting. The Division 1 setup a failed city and an attempt by the government to restore order to a city ruined by a pandemic. In this setting the Divisions attempts to clear out the gangs and restore New York City makes sense from a plot perspective as there's every incentive for the U.S. Government to reclaim the city. However the Division 2 is very different in that the pandemic has spread across the world and decimated the human population.

This is the first failure of the Division 2. The plot has you a random Division agent head to D.C. to attempt to restore the government. The ultimate problem with this plot ties directly into the games setting. The pandemic decimates the human population, at that level of death there's really no more communal identity. Most survivors will have branched off to create their own communities that will be resistant to any "outsiders" due to necessity.

This would've made a great plot point. Assuming the government still existed and wanted to "restore" the United States it'd have to do so using the standard methods available to government. These are by force, coercion, or subsidization. Since the government has nothing to subsidize with (currency is pointless in such a scenario) it would have to result to coercion or force. Which inevitably make it look like a bad guy.

Honestly the bland, unimaginative characters don't help this game much either. I stopped playing weeks ago and I can't remember a single characters name. That tells you how poorly written these characters are.

Finally the problems with the setting. One of the big points to the game is helping the scattered communities with supplies. But here's the problem with such a plot. With the exception of perishable goods, the world would be a land of plenty. Especially in the United States, you could go to any empty house or store and have clothes and electronic goods for days. The game also ignores one major factor every apocalyptic game forgets which is Bicycles. Sure, maybe there's not gas but that doesn't mean you can't pedal to your destination.

Finally, the game misses the most engaging plot/setting element such a game should be using to it's maximum potential. The loss of our life of luxury. After helping one community you start hearing a page over the intercom system talking about "vegetarian" options being added back to the menu. Food would be the most precious resource next to clean drinkable water and the life of luxury we've live would quickly fall apart as people would either starve or have to give up their vegetarian lifestyles to survive. Yet the developers seem to prioritize identity politics and fantasy rather then engaging critics on our modern lifestyle.

At the end of the day the Division 2 is a decent game but it's plot and poorly handled post game leaves it as a short term fling compared to it's competition (Destiny, Diablo etc.)

    [STARTING PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
I played through the “story” of this game in march 2019, about 2 years ago.
And my experience started by creating a character and ended the moment i finished the plot story.
I was a huge fan of The Division, and this sequel was a huge letdown for me in every way possible.
The Plot was no way near as good as the first one, and it was so bad the only thing i can remember about the plot, is that Air Force One had crashed and i was to defend its position, this was the last story mission if i remember correctly. I want to reiterate, this game was a letdown from start to finish for me.
To the point that i can't justify buying the expansion. Why? Because when i have tried to play this game, i could find no groups when i was matchmaking for Invaded missions. I even spent 1 hour while waiting for a group.]

    [MAIN REVIEW NOTES:
    THE GAMEPLAY
The World Design is up to par with the previous game and looks about as stunning. This means i could see no improvements between the first game and this one.
The Game Mechanic, mainly the LooterShooter/RPG part of the game is perfectly developed into this game. With Word Tiers and appropriate gear scores for that world tier. Tho it feels more grindy in this game than what it was in the first one.
NPC and Items Variety is great. You got a few different bosses and general NPC, and the Number of unique items on all the categories, SMG, LMG, Assault Rifle, Rifle, Markman Rifle, have alot of different options.
The story missions is kinda the same as the first one, but frankly not interesting in this game.
Objectives in the open world is alright, and are easy anuff to do solo also. Stuf like patrols, resupply runs and settlements that you have to take over for that area of the map.
The Multiplayer aspects is where it becomes very disappointing for me, from the beginning i have had problems finding groups to play the invaded missions. It is very hard to find a group to play missions in co-op. Resulting in that you will most likely do them solo, and killing the game for me.
The characters in this game were fantastic, all the characters i encountered during my playthrough of this game were fantastic. So some aspects in this game were well developed.
The controls were more or less the same as the first one, so if you have played the first game you will have no issues with this game.

    NARRATIVE
The Dialogue was great, it is well written and executed.
The Cutscenes was fantastic as well, have nothing bad to say about those.

    VISUALS
The Graphics looks the same as with the first one, tho the lighting has gotten an upgrade from what i can tell, but i can't see any more differences.
The Motion Capture/Voice-sync feels fluent enuff and looks great.

    TECHNICAL
I don't recall any bugs as far as i can tell.
I did have a few performance issues, but most of them have been fixed as i can tell. Most of them.
STORY The story in this sequel was a huge letdown for me in every way possible. 2 years later i can only recall the last mission in the story. So it wasn't that interesting that i would remember any of it after playing through it. After the story of The Division, playing The Division 2 was a disappointment. REPLAYABILITY Well, the replayability is good, as you have the potentiality to get many hours of play in this game. Begin a LooterShooter RPG/MMO and all that. But with the issues finding groups i need to warn you that you might have problems finding players to go into missions with. Unless there is an event or something happening. ] "7/10 – Good. Playing a Good game is time well spent. Could it be better? Absolutely. Maybe it lacks ambition, or is too repetitive," ~DeathKillerNOR~

I'm about 25 hours in and I guess it was worth the money. Ubisoft again excels in creating a beautiful open world, and although the gameplay in this is fun it can get very repetitive, especially considering that the game lacks any meaningful story. Killing the same enemy types over and over. I imagine it would be better with friends.

However, I know that lots of endgame content and systems will be added and improved on in the future through free dlc and updates, and the game will become much more fun later on, like what happened in the first game. I should note though that the original game launched in a much worse state. I have high hopes for this game in the future, however right now the game is only ok.

Basically, if you have friends that you can play with, this game is a no-questions-asked big 10. But for a solo player, beware that you'll either learn enough about the quirky AI to enjoy the challenge or quit in frustration. The in-game matchmaking almost never gives you someone to play with so have that in mind.

    - Huge map with tons of content
    - Beautiful, handcrafted environments that reward exploration

    Cons:
    - Atmosphere was way better in Division 1 (winter ftw)
    - Many annoying bugs remain
    - Timegated skins with high prices
    - Balance still a bit of a mess
    - Grind is real
    - PVP and Darkzones is a big fat meh
    - Not enough End-game content
    - "THE" most forgettable story and characters on my memory

So I can't complain too much, I got my value out of this game. It's still a solid 3rd-person looter-shooter and you can have a good time with PVE content. Community is still healthy and finding a group is not a problem. But recent decisions by developers are questionable at best.
Upcoming expansion "Warlords of New-York" looks promising and will bring a lot of improvements that should've been in the game from day 1. We'll see if it will be any good.

And, as always. Do NOT preorder. Do NOT buy loot boxes. Or you will get more and more unfinished games with egregious monetization.

With the experience accumulated on The Division 1, Massive manages with TD2 to excite our curiosity. Stronger, more generous, better built, the title succeeds where other games as service before it has struggled to. Thanks to its end-game, which renew the experience by adding content and skillfully recycles the existing one, but also thanks to this map of Washington, absolutely fantastic, which allows more than ever to immerse yourself in the universe of the agents of the Division.
