The Witcher 3 is a stunning game. The world is beautiful and rich, the story is gripping, the gameplay is very solid, but what really make it shine are the dialogs and the writing. You can't help but feel immediately immersed in them, making for a truly captivating experience. Before playing it I thought the game was perhaps a little overrated but hell no it's simply a masterpiece and a must play.

I urge you to consider this game even though you are not a fan of RPGs and I also suggest playing it on a higher difficulty setting because that is when the true beauty of combat, alchemy and crafting starts to shine.
There are so many things to say about Witcher 3. How fantastic story it has, how brilantly it addresses mature themes and topics, how deep and complex it is and how masterfully it simulates life in a medieval setting but there is only one way to truly experience this jewel and that is to play it. Do that and take a week or more off from whatever you are doing for this is going to be one hell of a vacation! You ll never forget this ride! The only shortcoming is that its already over for me.. how do I envy those who are still about to expecience it!

It's Story, characters, dialogue, quest/world/creature design are second to none of this genre. The world design can only be described as the most immersive, belieavable ecosystem ever crafted in any video game with an art style and atmosphere that perfectly captures architecture of mid european cities/village communities of it's historical time. Graphics, voice acting and music are of the highest quality. Gameplay is vastly improved from previous title...it is still not as responsive as Bloodborne or has the same quality of animations such Arkham series, however it more than makes up for it with an amazing variety of creatures and different types of AI, preparation through alchemy, learning your foes' weaknesses through extensive bestiary, use of magic signs that you can also use on your environment to give you advantage, as well as other tools at your disposal such as bombs, crossbow etc.
It is not without rough spots though...such as UI( Inventory system), AI ( horse riding), controls and camera as well as suffering from no small number of bugs/glitches. Honestly, until CDPR takes care of these things, I would give it a 9...however I'm rating it a bit higher to negate childish stupidity of those who downvote this game because they feel threatened by any game that surpasses their favorite title.
This is not merely another great game...it's place lies next to titles such as Chronotrigger, Half Life, Morrowind and others...games that mark a generation and leave higher standards for others to follow.

I have completed 220 quests out of which 14 quests were partly failed and one quest which was completed earlier was a failed quest after that specific quest was complete it was Cave of Dreams. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If someone is wondering whether they should get the game or not, the answer is definitely yes! The game does so much right. By no means is it perfect but seeing as this really is the new milestone for rpg's, I couldn't justify giving this game any less than a 10. Strictly speaking, I would give the game at its current state a 9.5, but we'll round it up.

    Pros:
+ Gorgeous, MASSIVE world. It just is so beautiful and masterfully crafted. No matter where you go, you can always find something interesting. The landscapes are phenomenal and immersive. The world is also full of interesting monsters and other npc's.
+ Story and storytelling. You've probably heard that this time around the story is a personal one. And that is completely true. It really grips you and makes you feel for the characters and want to see what's going to happen next.
+ Characters. Probably the biggest thing that sets this game apart from all the other RPG's. The characters are so well done. They all have interesting, genuine personalities and the voice acting is just perfect. The dialogues feel so real and you can really see, and feel, what the characters are feeling.
+ Decision making is the best that any RPG has seen. Not only can you see the effects of your decisions in the world, there isn't always a clear line of right or wrong. You don't usually get judged right away for your decisions and you can't always know the consequences beforehand.
+ Side quests are FINALLY worthwhile. In fact, some side quests even feel like a part of the main quest. In some ways they are, since they do affect the main quest. But all the characters, lore and dialogues make you immersed in the game like no other and there's quite a bit of variety in the quests.
+ Soundtrack. Not much to be said here, the soundtrack just is extremely fitting and at times beautiful.
+ Graphics. Yes, you read right. Despite all the downgrade fuss, the graphics are phenomenal. Sure, a slight downgrade has happened, but after some patches that improve the graphics a bit, I can not honestly see how someone would say that the graphics are not good.
+ Tons of interesting loot to be found everywhere.
    + 16 free dlc's (tho minor ones).
    + Fast patches.

Since I'm not big on crafting stuff, I'm just going to say that alchemy and crafting has been made well and I found no issues with them.

    Cons:
    - Combat is a bit unresponsive and floaty. The problem could be with the controls, which by the way are a bit sloppy too, but I think they should have made the combat more like in Bloodborne. It's just so smooth and rewarding and you can really feel the hit of your blows in that game. Now don't get me wrong, the combat is not bad at all, it's good in fact, but I feel like there's improvements to be made.
    - Lack of spells/character development. The skill system is pretty good, but it lacks depth. It feels too restrictive. There should be more variations to the signs, more interesting skills (many skills are just passive buffs to your abilities) and quite frankly, you should be able to select more skills on your active skills bars.
    - Bugs. No surprises here. In a game this huge, there was bound to be bugs. Luckily, there aren't too many and they aren't game-breaking, or even too distracting.
    - Short viewing distance. The world and graphics are beautiful and the landscapes as well, but unfortunately the landscape gets blurred and foggy too fast.
    *MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD*
    - Honestly, this is the thing that bugs me the most. After beating the game, the game reverts back to before playing the final chapter and the main quest vanishes. This means that all the things you do during the final chapter won't have any effect on the world at all. What's more, almost all the main characters disappear from the world. Needless to say, this is SO immersion breaking. What were the devs thinking? The game is otherwise so well done and then they just pull you out of the immersion and make the world feel so hollow.
    *SPOILERS END*

    Conclusion:
All in all the pros really outweigh the cons. As for the last con, I'm really hoping that the devs release a patch or dlc SOON that will fix this problem. It seems likely, since others have complained about it too. Despite that, all I can say is: BUY THE GAME and support the awesome devs for making this game and respecting us gamers. You won't regret it.

    1) It is clear that the game was designed to play on computers, 10 inches from your face. Even on my large (42 inch) TV I need to stand up and get closer whenever I use the inventory. The same issues are present in the HUD as many things are just simply "too small" 2) the running > walking animation is super clumsy and results in me standing on top of things I want to loot often.

That being said, these are 2 minor complaints in a STELLAR game. A must buy for all open world fans. Who needs multiplayer when there are over 200+ of interesting story based quests and objectives?

Btw I tried probably any western rpg in existence, but story wise hollow open world games never could hold my interest for long. Prime example Skyrim...

So what the Witcher achieves is really outstanding and a milestone. Freedom of an open world, with a great story, believable world building, fun gameplay and fighting system. If you want to look for weaknesses you really have to look at small technicalities, which don't harm the game much. Like the imho somewhat clunky inventory system.

So yes this game is a 10. If a game ever deserved such a rating then it's surely the Wicher 3.

P.S.: Shame on all the negative troll reviews, which are often based on small bugs or design errors, which were already fixed after a week of release. People like that really harm Metacritic's accuracy when it comes to user reviews and nowadays offical magazine ratings are usually more accurate when it comes to modern games here. That used to be different only a few years ago...

    - The game is VAST. I mean really vast. And in a good way which means it is large and full of things to do. Exploring the world in Witcher 3 is very satisfying. You get to get not only new items and toys you see in other RPGs, but you can uncover new quests and become part of different and interesting stories.

    - The quests are very well construcited. Quests are structured and layered, some quests have multiple subqests. Sometimes finishing a quest will naturally lead to another one. There is a lot of twists and yoyu will be faced with meaningful choices that will make you think about your character and world he lives in. I also really like the witcher sense implementation, which gives the game a detective like feeling sometimes.

    - The world is very rich in characters and lore. If you are interested you can read books, and spend hours in bestiary/character descriptions.

    - The combat system is well thought off, abilities are fun to use and thanks to respec functionality you can try new things in the middle of the game (which is a good thing given you could have invested over 200 hours already. I have a little beef with character movement that feels a bit clunky, but it is easy to overcome.

Conclusion: if you are a PC you must buy this game. It is the best game I have played in a very long time. Although it is pricey it is worth every penny - there is enough content for you to experience for 10 anotherr games. Very well done CD Projekt Red.

The world is open and vast and cd projekt red, filled it with interesting characters, backstories and combat that actually made me want to delve deeper into the world. This to me is a huge plus as most open world sandboxes create massive worlds and fill it with generic content (Dragon Age Inquisition being the prime offender here).

Many RPGs focus on tales of lone, wandering adventurers, but few if any pull it off it with such artistry as The Witcher 3. That artistry is most apparent in the setting itself, which is so packed with breathtaking sunsets and wind-tossed groves of trees that, months later, I still find myself opting to go to destinations on foot rather than taking the fast travel points.

But the true strength of The Witcher 3 is that it populates these memorable landscapes with NPCs doling out humble but memorable quests (by the dozen) that help create one of the most human RPG experiences on the market. In decaying wayside towns, the witcher Geralt might find impoverished elves struggling in the face of local racism; elsewhere, he might help a self-styled baron reunite with his long-estranged daughter. These quests deftly navigate moral issues without being heavy-handed or offering obvious solutions

Through it all, much as in The Witcher 2, Geralt usually plays the role of just another character on this troubled world's stage. In the process, this tale of monster slaying and inter-dimensional raiders becomes strangely and poignantly relatable.

I'd argue the Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made. Its writing and micro narratives are so far ahead of its piers it's frankly depressing. It stands as a testament to the skill of CDProjekt Red devs who deeply know and love their craft and allow you to have fun while experiencing war, racism and female sexuality a with a meaningful narrative and haven't devolved into catering and pandering for the masses, leaving the players reflecting on the Witcher world for years to come, as opposed to some jokes of games masquerading as RPGs that will choke to death on 3 pounds of steel.

The combat works well, and the magic actually meshes with sword-play, which is rare for this kind of game. The game map is big enough and varied enough to be interesting, and there's a good fast-travel mechanic that stops long journeys getting boring without spoiling immersion too much.

My only real gripe is the cut-scenes. They're necessary to push the story forward, but they seem to go on far too long. Yes, you can skip them but then you miss important information and don't get the full benefit of the plot. I'd have liked some way of skipping to the next line of dialogue so you can get the whole story without having to wait for every line to be delivered. But that's a very small problem with an otherwise excellent game.

Unfortunately, the Witcher 3 is not entirely immune to this problem, for there are certainly moments where the world overshadows that of the main story. This said, the Witcher 3 is still perhaps the best open world game you can get, for while it succumbs to the over-hyped value of the open-world, the stories and quests are so well done that it is easy to see past it's flaws.

I have completed most of the game. Of the main quest, I have finished in it's entirety, and I am pretty sure I covered most of the secondary quests and witcher contracts. In spite of the fact that the game is open world, the game has one of the more brilliant narratives I have seen in a AAA RPG, and side quests are just interesting enough that it in the least raises the bar above other RPG's of similar make.

The characters in the game are well written, and to a certain extent, touched me at an emotional level that few other games of its make has ever accomplished. The plot has a few a few twists and turns that kept me wondering what happens next.

Is the Witcher 3 perfect? No. There are some bugs here and there, and there are a few mechanics that can always be improved. But ultimately, I think it deserves a top-notch grade, because there are few games out there that accomplishes as much as the Witcher 3. The game is a work of art, and it is very apparent that the developers put a lot into the game.

I would go and make sure everything was done so I wouldn't be disturbed, come back with coffee in hand and just enjoy the ride.

The game took 100 hours for me to finish, and I still had a full quest log. By that point though i was ready to see the story through. The choices I made in the game I felt were true to Geralt and though I had one of the bittersweet endings, it feels authentic -- I got what I deserved :). I am also particularly happy I played it on the second hardest setting - got to explore the deep combat as well.

Now that it is all over I feel a little sad. The same type of feeling I've always had when I finished reading a fantastic epic. So now I'm going to get the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, and I can't wait.

This is the first time (since Planescape) that I've felt so engrossed in a video game, and cared about its characters, dreamt about them, and want to talk to everyone about the experience. This is proof that the video game medium can be used to tell the kind of emotive and epic stories we grew up with! The future is bright!

    Well done CD Projekt RED

The starting area at the time felt huge, but it's a microscopic portion of the game, when all is said and done you can easily spend 150 hours in the game if you want to complete everything. Every part of the world is filled with life, be it people or wildlife, and the scenery is truly breathtaking, I often found myself just sitting back in awe of just how good the game looks. The world feels so alive, and this is helped by some truly fantastic voice acting and story telling, riding through a town you will here countless little conversations organically playing out around you, and decisions you make will change the course of the game, so pick wisely!

So the game has top notch visuals and audio, unmatched story telling and all the content you could ever want, so what's wrong with it? Well, not much really, in fact the only negative is the movement system, especially on horseback. It's so bad I feel knocking off a point is justified as you spend a lot of time on horseback especially which is by far the worst offender when it comes to movement, as well as AI (Roach will often spawn nowhere near you, on the other side of a wall or just refuse to move at all until you manually mount him). Geralt's movement has been improved since launch with an alternative movement option, and I suggest you use it.

I should also mention the game within a game, Gwent. It's a card game that you can play against NPCs throughout the game, think similar to Hearthstone. It's very easy to pick up but quite hard to master, you will need to use sound strategy to beat the harder opponents. You can get lost Gwent easily if you're not careful, it's very addictive.

To sum up, The Witcher III is up there with the best games of all time, and it's an absolute must buy for anyone who enjoys the RPG genre as it's as close to perfection as possible and you will love every minute of it.

I love getting a new sword or outfit to strut about in. Just got a new computer and it just looks so pretty on it.

My only problem was that the you don't get enough slots for perks so at the end of the game it's less fun (because leveling up becomes pointless)

And I have to say that all those "DLCs" are not worth mentioning and could've been integrated into the game in the release. I thought this game would be good, but instead it exceeded every expecation I had in spectacular fashion.

Gameplay - fun, challenging combat, fantastic quests (the side quests are just as interesting and fun as the main quests), and your choices matter, thanks to the game's ridiculous amount of endings.

Story - every good adjective I can think of. Andrzej Sapkowski's vision of a lore-filled and vast fantasy world filled with so many interesting characters is masterfully given form.

Music - solid all-around soundtrack that adds life to the entire experience.

Graphics and Performance - a beautiful game even on low-medium settings, and it runs like a beauty as long as you don't get overzealous and crank everything higher than your build can handle. I recommend turning the fancy hair graphics off completely, and then it shouldn't take much tweaking to get good performance.

Marketing - thought I'd include this because CD Projekt Red is the super hero of game developers. They charge $60 for a game that has a ~60 hours camaign and loads of other hours in the form of side quests and activities, not to mention the quality of all those hours of content. Then, they make a kickass DLC with about 12 hours of content and charge $10 for it. The next DLC costs $20, and it delivered upwards of 30 hours of the same quality content (plus a feakin' entirely new zone) I had already experienced from the base game and the first DLC (for some reason they called it a DLC and not The Witcher 4: Blood and Wine).

Negatives - very few, and overall the good FAR outweighs the bad. Your player does move a bit clunkily (movement is clearly favored towards consoles), and you aren't able to customize your character or do crazy, random actions the way you can do in similar games like Skyrim. Although I do not think this, some say that they feel the combat is clunky, too challenging, or just not fun. There have also been a decent number of bugs in the game, but most have been ironed out through updates by now. **WARNING: This game is NOT for you if you have little time on your hands and/or do not enjoy taking breaks from the action to engage in dialogue and story. Some dialogue scenes are lengthly, and although the dialogue itself is superb, many gamers may be turned off by the idea of dedicating so much time to the story and plot choices.**

Unless you dislike every good aspect that I have just described, do yourself a favor and purchase this game. It's worth it.

A well-made game, but not the greatest modern RPG. by far. Which is sad, because I know how much sacrifice was put into this.

    PROS

+ Sidequests and monster contracts are fun, even if they bring the story way out of focus.

+ Novigrad, though you don’t get to change the politics of asides killing a few badguys

+ Combat controls are improved, not clunky.

+ High quality models and graphics. Beautiful game for screencapping.

+Despite its story, the WRITING is good. Lambert, Kiera, Dijkstra and Regis are fab.

+I hate Ciri, but the relationship between her and Geralt is authentic, for what it is.

    +++ GWENT.

    CONS

-Open world KILLED the narrative. Why find the girl, save the world from very ‘fast’ villains when I can spend 50+ hours on sidequests with no consequence whatsoever. I can even start Blood and Wine and travel to Toussaint right before I begin the final quest/boss battle. Immersion wise, this is abysmal.

    - Wild Hunt are punch-clock villains. We’re told they’re the worst, but what they DO is dismal. This goes hand in hand with an open world. The Wild Hunt never does anything because they are waiting for YOU.

-Environments except Novigrad are cut+paste. Felt nothing for White Orchard, or the other clones in Velen.

-Skellige’s political ‘plot’ is Bioware grade. Skellige itself also felt shoehorned in. Should’ve been cut from the main game and developed further into a 3rd expansion pack, imho.

    - The lack of mentioning of some certain characters *cough* IORVETH* *cough* is irritating. After many patches and two EPs, there is not even a single journal entry.

    - Combat healing= nuked difficulty.

    - It’s easy make money buy what you want, compared to W2. Roleplaying wise, if you are supposed to be a poor witcher, this is a flaw.

    - Ciri. Didn’t like her from the books, don’t like her now. She’s in real need of some actual character flaws.

Overall, a good game, but with it’s flaws, as a game that strives for better STORY, this fell way off the mark.

And that’s disappointing, considering how much crunch time went into this. Perhaps if the devs got more sleep they would've thought to get their fundamentals down than being more 'ambitious'.

TL;DR: Dragon Age: Inquisition, but better. Suffers from the same exact flaws, when it comes to its narrative, but its more polished and was made by less tormented people.

    B+.

The best action rpg I've ever played. In terms of mechanics it's not as complex and deep as for example Dark Souls, but its story, characters, beautiful open world, and great side quests and more than enough to compensate for it.

The most overrated game which I ever seen. Unlikable simillar faces, boring open world, too much meaningless dialogue, terribly realized combat system, RPG game without RPG elements, non-observance of the canons of the book. Not recommending.

Hands down one of the greatest games I have ever played. I struggled to get more than an hour into Witcher 2, and as such basically ignored this game during it's development, but I am so so glad I didnt ignore it for much longer.

If you liked Skyrim, but though it could have done with a more immersive story, then get this game.

While heavily padded with sword fighting mini-games and lengthy cutscenes (that required a bowl of popcorn), this is an excellent CCG that will keep you glued to your screen. While building your Gwent collection, you will visit two very large open world maps (that could have been their own game if handled by a different dev), two smaller open world maps, and multiple unique locations on your quest for a better deck. The only real disappointment is that the Monster deck takes a very long time to find cards for and by the time you have a playable deck, all your other decks are significantly more powerful. Regardless, Gwent is an excellent CCG that requires a lot of forethought, mind games, meta strategy, and a bit of luck.

...Outside of Gwent, the actual story is excellent for an open world game but I found it lacking compared to the previous two games. The story line is especially weak during the full length of Novigrad, which I felt was padded by the undercity politics and a mountain of sidequests of wildly varying level requirements. It didn't help that about half of that part of the main quest involved pulling Dandelion's butt out of the fire again either. Ciri's playable parts do an excellent job of breaking up the occasional tedium and help provide a perspective of the game's events from the other side. Your actions and choices also have major consequences on the story, often more impactful than you expect. From big to small, Geralt changes individuals lives and shapes the course of history with his political choices. Many times throughout the game I found myself going through side quests (even though I didn't need the rewards) just to find out what would happen.

TW3 is also the "Witcher-est" of the three games. This game really shines when you are just doing random monster hunting quests, following tracks and discovering clues about a monster's whereabouts, or looking for the hideout of a gang of thugs. Geralt narrates his observations and helps push the gameplay forward with his thoughts on events and locations. The character build options also provide a lot of variety; this is the first Witcher game where I found myself unable to easily settle on a build. I respecced at least ten times during the course of the game, switching between melee, signs, alchemy, and all sorts of halfway builds in-between.

Despite "downgrade" claims, The Witcher 3 is a gigantic, beautiful world to explore that pushes modern consumer PC technology to the limit. The story line is the best I have experienced in an open world game and deserves to be played through at least twice to experience different effects your actions have on the story. From the cast of colorful characters to the caves full of loot, everything feels handcrafted and lovingly made. This is one of the best RPGs I have played in a very long time (with actual roleplaying elements too!) and I can safely recommend it to anyone looking for a mature adventure through a gritty and immersive world.

Despite the graphics controversy, the world of The Witcher 3 is beautiful and astonishing. It's possible to stand hours just looking at the horizon and watch the sun and moon cycles. The people, villages, animals, monsters are all alive. Not just waiting for you to kill them and gain XP. Wolves hunt, people do their daily chores, bandits try to find an easy victim, monster lurk and hunt the countryside. And the music and soundtrack bring a very emotional touch to all that.

The story is also one of its greatests achievements. From a simple treasure hunt to a big main quest, the story is never boring, short or uninteresting. Its all very integrated. On a treasure hunt you may discover how a fisher lost a package on a river or how some deserters were prowling and stealing from refugees. The sidequests and monster hunts brings amazing stories about betrayal, love, dark rituals and the war and its effects on common people. The main quest brings a race against time to find someone very important to the Witcher. With many troubles on the way, of course.

The gameplay, although not so easy to master and rather clunky (and bug) sometimes, is a very good improvement over the older Witcher games, creating a very strategic, fast and fun combat (specially on the highest difficult).

At launch the game had many bug problems but the majority are resolved with the patches released by CD RED. And 16 free DLCs were released, with new gear, quests, skins and a New+ mode.

Thereafterr, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a must buy. The beautiful visuals, lovelly music, heartbreaking stories and quests and its fun exploration and gameplay are a mark in the gaming industry. And, definitly, a true and sound ending to the franchise.

The DLC is either free for some and very fairly priced for the rest.
The characters and plot dance with threads in hand to weave a marvelous tapestry rich in lore and history. You care about the characters and what happens to them and it's impossible to not get engrossed in the vibrant and masterfully woven world of Wild Hunt.
Combat is phenomenally improved since the last game, and the use of objects such as bombs and potions actually feels worthwhile. Alchemy and crafting are actually fun and useful this time around, too.

All-in-all, this massive, unique, entertaining, and beautiful open-world fantasy game full to the brim with sex and gore is by far the best game I have played to date. 70 hours on it and still going. Kudos, CDPR.

Just when you think you're in a bit of a grind loop the story picks you up and lifts you out of it. Brilliant script and voice acting. A herbalist that says in a slow drawl "So would you like to see my stash" and there are heaps of random moments like this - you need to spend time with this game. About 100 hours in I thought I had the pace of the game nailed and was starting to get a bit bored, then it changed, dramatically. That's as close to a good movie experience as I can think of, except that it's not a movie and every choice matters.

There are a heap of hero games out there, and to some extent this falls into that genre. But the story is one that is subtle and complex. It's one you can talk to your partner about (cautiously), because it has depth. It made me laugh and occasionally a tear was shed. I can't tell you another game that had that effect.

I think this is the game by which all other RPG's should be measured. I am still stunned by what an independent studio has achieved. Go CD PROJECT RED!!!

If you are remotely interested in role playing type pc games, buy this, play this and then use it as the standard by which all others should be judged.

I have played most of the big-ticket RPG games in the past few years and this is one without equal. I want CDPR to make more, I want to know what Geralt does next, but the series is over with this one. Don't miss it.

    Trust me on this.

I upgraded my system and went back to the game, but I was rusty and forgot a lot of the systems. The first time I played I powered through on a lot of the main story quests. My character was not well developed and I was broke. Since it has been about a year since I seriously played the game I went back and started from the very beginning. This time I focused on doing all the side quests and taking my time to explore all the corners of the map. I spent time learning how to properly play the card game gwent. I focused on my skill builds and using the mutagens and matching them up. I made the different types of oils and studied the weaknesses of the beasts I would face and the best tactics. I'm at level 12 right now and I haven't even left velen yet. This time through I am seeing tons of side quests and story I missed. The side quest stories are almost as good as the main quest stories. I am totally hooked on gwent this time around and play every npc I can find and am always asking merchants if they have any gwent cards for sale. The level of detail in this game is incredible. From the slow motion kill scenes to watching a enemy you just killed fall into the water and then float back up to the surface or watching an enemy who has just collapse to the ground slowly bleed out leaving a puddle of blood. The stories are phenomenal. Your decisions impact what happens later. Even minor side quests will have me running into people later on who want to talk about the decisions I made. If you like adventure games then this is certainly worth a look even though its an rpg. The graphics are great with some gorgeous scenery. There are some minor downsides. Sometimes combat can be a bit frustrating and could be a bit more fluid. The background music got annoying to the point where I have turned it off. It is fine at first, but after awhile it becomes a bit much. I haven't gotten the expansion and a second expansion is coming up at the end of this month. Right now I am still in the base game and there is a massive amount of game left for me to explore. Hands down this is a quality game and if you have even a passing interest in an immersive rpg then don't even hesitate. Just get this game now. The amount of content is enough to keep anyone busy for months. Just keep in mind that this game is no fairy tale. In fact the game can be quite dark and at times you may make decisions that you think are for the best and much like real life things just go sideways and can't foresee the consequences. Best advice I can give about this game is just take your time and go slow. Explore every area and learn about every system in the game. You don't need to have played the prior games to catch up on the story. Would it add to your pleasure knowing the full back story? I'm sure but it does not seem necessary. The game kinda fills you in on what happened before. I own Witcher 2 and I played it for a bit, but the controls were soo horrible that I just did not get very far into the story. Witcher 3 has a much better control system. This is one of the best games I have picked up in years. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolute bliss. The Witcher 1 already provided an unique story and submerging world experience, the Witcher 2 with it's lacking combat system still was a pearl with powerful dark fantasy world in full of its shades. But this? This is rendering me speechless. The amount of work and effort put into the game is absolutely overwhelming and can bee seen in every corner of the world from shattered village hut thru deep mysterious caves to vivid medieval cities and castles. But this is juts but a scenery. What makes this game the greatest game of all times (so far!) is the story and the deep, interesting, and complicated characters. Not some dull 2d black/white dolls like in DA:I or some other 'blockbuster' RPG titles in the recent games. In the Witcher 3 you get submerged into the vast living world straight on. And you can't get our until the game is over, and this will not happen before at least ~200 hours of gameplay! Can you believe this guys? So much for so little. I salute to the all devs and creators of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, for they have created a true masterpiece, second to none for the long time to come. Now I can't wait for the next CD projekt:RED game, which will be: Cyberpunk 2077. Expand

+ Quests. There are hundreds of them and they're all different and with voice acting. It's insane. Some of the side quests take several hours to complete.
+ Story. Like all the Witcher games, this one also has a really good story.
+ Choices you make affect the story and the world.
+ Voice acting. They did a great job. Everything is voiced, even the smallest quests.
+ Gwent mini game is amazing. They could turn this into a standalone game.
+ Characters are interesting and have very detailed stories.
+ The user interface is pretty good, with a few exceptions. See below.
    + No quicktime events.
+ The game has no DRM, as it should be.
+ There are many patches to improve game mechanics and fix bugs. The game was great at release, but CDPR spent a lot of time making it even better. Most gaming companies wouldn't do this.

    - Poor performance. I play most other games on high/ultra settings, but The Witcher 3 often has low FPS even on medium/low settings, especially in Novigrad.
    - Graphics were downgraded a bit, probably because of the bad performance. The game still looks great though.
    - Movement is still a bit clunky at times with mouse/keyboard, even after the patches.

The Witcher 3 is an outstanding game, one of the best, and well deserving of all the praise it gets.

On the XBox One, the game makes a good technical figure: the graphics are nice and the game runs smoothly.
All in all, I can fully recommend this game.

I would nominate Witcher 3 for Game of the Year based on two complete play-throughs. The only comparable game in this genre is Skyrim. If you are looking for an action/adventure game with great story (in the sword and sorcery genre), absorbing action, open world, and fully-immersive audio-visual quality, this is as good as it gets. Take serious note of the technical requirements, however.I would nominate Witcher 3 for Game of the Year based on two complete play-throughs. The only comparable game in this genre is Skyrim. I would not suggest trying this game without the recommended technical resources; it continues the Witcher tradition of assassinating inferior equipment. Expand

Been playing RPGs for a very long time, since elementary school some 30 years back, and CRPGs since Bard's Tale I. I've had the fortune to experience almost the entire progression from initial text adventures, through 2D and the jump to 3D. What CDPR has managed here is total immersion, by exploiting the medium chosen for maximum effect.

What made traditional RPG and text adventures fun was that there was always a personal connection that made you feel like an integral part of a world, not just an avatar trodding through one. There were never any busy-work and the game sessions always sought to keep *you* entertained. Witcher 3 is without doubt the best embodiment in digital form of what initially drove me to like RPGs, in that it managed to take me away to a distant land for moments of time (longer than I'd dare to admit) briefly becoming one with the world.

Sure it's an absolutely stunning looking game, a technical feat that ran flawlessly on my modest system (i7 4470 + GTX 780) at 1920x1200, but what really set it apart and made it so memorable for me was the masterful game design. The chaps behind the title must have iterated the formula over and over, for months on end, always asking themselves what the essence is that RPG gamers crave, what is fun and what isn't. The ingredients to make something wonderful have all been carefully prepared, that is clear from the first minutes of game play. Fantastic story, meaningful interactions and lots of surprises, including twists that seasoned gamers might not expect (like believing the game is about to end, and then discover you've not even scratched the surface). But *how* these ingredients are woven together, and the unfolding of the adventure paced, is what I believe makes this title something extraordinary, something for the developers to be proud of, and me thankful for having experienced.

I never thought I'd see a title like this, but now that I have, I'm afraid I'll be disappointed by pretty much anything else released the coming years, aside from the promised expansions that is.

Some advice; if you're an RPG fan, don't buy this game until you have quite a few vacation days lined up. It's like a great book that keeps tugging at your attention whenever you let your mind drift or relax, even when you're not gaming. Resistance is futile, so let yourself succumb.

Why are you reading this? Shut up and buy the game right now. It will be the best decision you will ever make. Make sure you do get the PC version, because it's been shown that with $300 hardware you can get the exact same performance as the console versions. With any real investment in hardware you can get a stunningly beautiful game that puts all others to shame.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
