    This is it.
This is the game that will be used as comparison to the many AAA titles that are to follow. They will compare these games to Witcher 3, and point out their shortcomings, and how Witcher 3, a game released long ago in 2015, did so many things right when the others couldn't.

Not many games are worth a perfect score. The nearer you get to that perfect 10, the more minor flaws you spot that will be just enough to drag a game to the 9/10. But witcher's 3 shortcomings are so few, so tiny, that I can't possibly take a whole point off the score just for their sake.

Some people may not agree with this. For some, the combat is a bit disappointing, enough to take a point or two, tops. Some others might be pissed at other aspects, such as graphics? I really don't know. Most reviews seem to be positive. This alone is a testament to how good this game is. Even if the combat disappoints you, even if you don't like the story it's not enough to make this game bad. There can't be a perfect game for everyone, naturally.

I myself found everything good in this game. I kept hoping that they wouldn't mess it up, and they didn't. CD Projekt has secured its position with this game.
The graphics are amazing. I keep stopping to stare at the sceneries. So much detail in the game's world. The story is amazing. It has its slow-paced moments, but in its entirety, it's a superb story of a really likeable fella on his great quest to find his missing 'daughter' and save his world. The combat is amazing. I loved being outnumbered by drowners and having to combine witcher magic, positioning and swordsmanship to narrow their numbers while trying to dodge their claws. And I loved outmaneuvering and stepping just out of reach that Wild Hunt general's frenzied attacks.

This review isn't born out of a just-purchased play session hype. I have played this game for a while now and it kept me entertained throughout. I wrote this review when I was sure my feelings for this game were clear. And they are.

A true crown jewel of gaming. Game of the Year.

Quite possibly the best single player RPG of all time. This and Final Fantasy 7 are my favorite games I can remember. The game has its minor flaws, but the games amazing graphics, narrative dialogue, music, I could go on... If you haven't bought this game you are missing out on one of the best experiences I've ever had.

240 hours to complete the main story (probably 40 hours spent just playing Gwent). Another 50 hours on Heart of Stone expansion.

CD Projekt has done it. They've made the game of the decade here. Anyone who has not played this masterpiece owes it to themselves to purchase.

The graphics are gorgeous and varied, the story is compelling, the missions, even the side quests, are interesting and the Gwent game is a nice little game of its own within the game.

That said, reviews are personal and for me me this is a solid 7/10 game - solely because this game is having a hard time keeping my attention. I am about 55 hours into the game but not sure I will keep going. I owned the game since May so I really only play less than 10 hours a month since I would rather play other games.

    Pros:

    - Georgous graphics for an open-world game, and great character models for the main cast.
    - Some good dialogue. Geralt has a personality I enjoy - though it doesn't always work in the context of what is happening.
    - Strong female characters - I know people have claimed this series is very sexist but they have come a long way. Ciri, Yennefer, Triss, Kiera, and even some small side characters have strong moments.
    - Morally grey moments - this game does a good job of making you think at times and does not have obviously right - wrong decisions like many games.
    - game does a good job of making you play an outsider. A vast improvement over playing heroes that people fawn over
    - interesting monsters
    - love the quest journal that is narrated by Dandelion. Really more RPGs need to copy this. Yes it takes effort, but I like reading the quest journal. Also enjoy the people and monster journals which are better than games like Dragon Age.
    - Novigrad - best in-game city I've ever seen.
    - good soundtrack

    Cons
    - I eventually got used to the control scheme, but it remains awkward on keyboard/mouse.
    - combat can feel simplistic - just Quen and fast-attack, occasionally dodge.
    - a lot of copy / paste in the open world. Most towns are populated by the same people saying the same one-liners. The one-liners are sometimes odd enough that you notice them since they would not be something you would expect 20 people to all say.
    - inventory is a mess
    - a lot of ambient characters are annoying / gross. It isn't necessary to hear someone loudly snorting in your face. And several people do this in every village.
    - villager Ai is stupid. If you stand still on your horse on a road, for example, they will walk slowly into you and then scream loudly about it.
    - too many ?s. Id rather the game only mark quest objectives and let you explore. It's not realistic that Geralt would sense 100 points of interest nor would it make sense that he would spend months combing over every inch of the open world when there are supposedly more pressing things to be done. This destroys the story pacing and also just makes the map feel cluttered. Which is odd since
    - a lot of the world feels empty, which is more realistic, but can be a time sink traversing it.
    - needing to find a sign post to fast travel also feels like a time sink.

If this was an objective review I would rate this a 9 for everything it does right - but for me this is a solid 7 since the totality of the experience doesn't draw me in or keep me interested.

Even if you don't really play RPGs or know much about the Witcher series you should consider buying this game. The story and presentation are 10/10. Their use of every cinematic tool in the story tellers arsenal is excellent. I don't really care for stories in video games as gameplay is the most important feature of a game for me, but the Witcher 3 story is told so well that the gameplay could get 5/10 and it would still be worth playing. Fortunately the gameplay is 8/10, well enough executed to not get in the way but overall nothing groundbreaking with many missed opportunities.

The combat can be a bit repetitive as the attack patterns of all the enemies lack diversity. Even on the hardest difficulty the game becomes easy as the XP curve is poorly balanced along with the potions, spells (signs), and leveling system. There is already one mod that tries to balance the game better but I haven't had the time to try it out yet. If you're looking for a hardcore experience you should anticipate having to download mods because the vanilla game won't give it to you.

Any weaknesses in the gameplay are made up for with all the other strengths of the game. The visuals are stunning and diverse. One second you might be galloping through a grassy open field and the next you will be trudging through a gassy swamp as thunder clatters overhead. Every enemy class you encounter looks different and unique. The overall world design is rather remarkable making it possibly the best designed video game world to date.

With regards to performance, the 1.07 patch is running flawlessly on ULTRA @ 40-50 fps GTX 970. CDPR is obviously very committed to the PC release and I expect the game in 1-2 years will have many new features and tons of new content that will likely be free.

The major issue this game has is its atmosphere, its world and its characters. Tell me, why do I need to get depressed to play a game? It is a very violent game, characters seem old and depressed and full of personal issues and problems.

    To sum it up:

    Pros:
    1) Graphics were good at the time the game came out.

    Cons:
    1) A depressive and sad game
    2) Too much violence without good reason
    3) World is just too large
    4) Fighting system is unresponsive and is hugely based on stats rather than skill.
    5) Characters are very boring
    6) Depressive Music...

W3 isn't the great RPG ever (lack off char. custom.) but could be the best game that i ever play.

    steering isn't ideal,
    graphics could be better,
main story, NPC, world, side quest is a godlike.
PS: DLC is even better ;D

I couldn't finish Witcher 1, I didn't play Witcher 2, and I feel in love with Witcher 3. It could be the best RPG I've ever plained. It's definitely up there with Mass Effect series, DA: origins (Hated the Inquisition), KOTOR.

Gwent is amazing, the loot is fantastic, and the side quests and characters are very well done. I really, really wish all future RPGs are made this well.

I can praise the game for hours on end:

    1. Awesome dialogue system
    2. One of the best fighting mechanics I've tried
    3. Extremely beautiful grafics
    4. Very large amount of quests to do, which is told in a good way
    5. It treats you like an adult, and thus making it feel more real (yes boobs are awesome and so on, but it makes going to a sauna feel more real, than if people cover themselves)
    6. Despite what many people say about the controls, I've had an easy time with it on pc, and can't imagine using a controller.

I could go on, but I don't think I need to be specific on that.

However, the game has some isues:
    1. Your horse Roach is dump as hell, will often run into trees, suddenly stop when you run, and often don't respond to when you call for it.
    2. The world is huge, and maybe a little to much so.... Some areas are there, but has no quests or content linked to them, which makes them feel like they are there for show.
    3. This one is a little mixed; it has a recommended level on each quest, which is good for when you need to know how much you need before taking the quests. The downside of this however, is that you will always know when a mission goes to hell, like you are supposed to talk to someone, but with the level indication, you know that you will fight, instead of having it as a surprise.
    4. It has a couple of bugs, but I've not encountered many, but it needs to be said.
    5. Romances feels rewarding, however, there are to few scenes with your loved ones (not necessarily sex scenes, but just where you spend time with Triss, cause Yennifer has more than a few scenes in the storyline)

I can understand, that many people got used to broken and bugged games so much, that they are willing to push out a 10 for a game, which has several problems in both technical and design.
I'm not going into what the Witcher 3 is about, or how you progress in the game. You can read 99% of the reviewers describing of what this game is.
Instead, I point out obvious and not so obvious issues.
Let's start with the menu system. While it's not the worst, neither great. For example, if you enter the inventory (key: i), it takes 2 steps to get out. The Witcher's inventory is also quite disorganized. Your weapons and armor plus potions are lumped into one screen, while other items you collect are under other tabs. Looking at the items you pick up, is confusing and that little yellow star indicating the newest item is barely visible or completely invisible if the item is yellow. Most of the time it's hard to make out what exactly I picked up, especially looking at the herbs and miscellaneous items, because the icon is small and after a few hours, your inventory fills up to a point, where you loose track of what you have or what you should do with.
Trying to pursue to make one specific sword, armor or potion could be frustrating and tedious, so best advice is to pick up everything. I mean everything, even a rotten piece of meat or a broken fishing rod. You are going to spend a good amount of time of picking up everything that is pickable. If you thought Dragon Age: I was bad with herb picking, you ain't seen nothing yet, until you play this game.
Actually the title should have been Witcher 3 : Public Waste Management.
Another issue has to be the money system. You are not going to have a lot of money throughout the game. You are going to spend it on repairing your sword and armor after every 10 enemy you fight. At boss fights, your equipment will brake and your potions will run out. Sound challenging - yes, but plan to visit a black smith in about every 20 minutes and spend enormous amount of money on repairs. You found a unique sword and armor? You may consider finding another one, instead of repairing it. Kinda makes the rune stones almost useless and equipment with sockets for them.
    Potions.Equipment
I have 2 different potions i can use during traveling or combat, but I can switch them out, if I access my inventory, which as I said, involves hopping through 3 different screens.
Why not just let me equip at least 10 of them? I got 10 numbered keys on my keyboard. Why the redundancy and the immersion braking by navigating through menus while in combat?
    Combat:
Maybe it's only me, but blocking is almost useless. Most people will not block, because it can cause plenty of damage anyway, or stagger. I mean my level 12 witcher staggers from a level 1 bandit. So why should I even bother blocking, if I can just roll around? So they made the blocking another useless function, and with it, the whole parrying and counter attack options as well. Now, my old and experienced witcher relies on rolling around the ground left and right and its sword skills consist just a little more than whirlwind cuts and then roll. Spin around again with the sword, roll away quick.
I'm not sure what happened, because blocking/parrying/countering worked quite well in Witcher 2. They just dumped the whole thing, or is it bugged?
I also noticed, that even if the enemy doesn't hit towards me, the hit still counts? For example, a wolf was biting towards me, so I side stepped. It bit into the air, but apparently I lost health, like it bit me directly.
So now, I don't side step. I only roll and stab. Stab, stab roll. Roll roll stab. Rinse and repeat, if I want to live and win.
    Bugged or a design feature?
    Bugs and glitches.
This may be temporary, but they still exist.
    1. On shores, if I get off the horse, sometimes Geralt starts swimming in an ankle deep water. Kinda funny, but if you got enemies around, you are dead.
    2. Re-loading a quick save can have various effects. For example, you can can't open the same chest or various items missing from the ground. You use your witcher senses, but the items that were highlighted before are gone. Or the chest won't highlight anymore.
Or you can't complete a mission, because the mission specific item is gone. I couldn't free a jailed person, because the key disappeared upon re-loading the game.
    3.
    Bugged, stucked animations, clipping issues.
There are certain lootable boxes, that can't be looted, because it's under other items and the "loot" text doesn't appear, no matter how you turn towards it.
Geralt puts away the sword if it fights an enemy, which can disappear and re-appear. Like a wraith or a ghost. This can be a pain in the butt, because that one second could cost your life.

The world building that takes place in a game like TW3 is unlike any I've ever experienced. There so much to do, so much life in the villages and people, surrounded by just as much death. It's an open-world RPG, but with an important twist. The entire game isn't open to you from the start, and you'll thank CDPR for that. Each map is tied to the major events going on in the story and you progress through them as you see fit. It's a true choose your own adventure and each choice has a consequence, whether it be at the end of your conversation, or much further down the road. Speaking of story - TW3 has a fantastic one that will hold your attention and drive you to keep playing to see what happens to this world and its people.

Visually, it's unlike any game I've ever played. Sure there are some similarities if you try to compare it to games like Dragon Age and The Elder Scrolls, but the world of Temeria is rendered like a moving painting. I find myself taking screenshots of nothing but the landscape from time to time because it's just so absurdly gorgeous. Animations are great, especially in the faces. Conversations with NPCs really show off the details. "Graphical downgrade" debacle be damned - this is a fantastic looking game on an PC that can handle it.

Combat is improved from the Witcher 2 but won't suit everyone's taste. It's easy to pick up, but difficult to master. Timing is everything and preparation is important. Knowing what you're going to be up against and how to kill it is key to being a successful witcher.

CDPR has already put out two major patches for the game, and we're just now a week into its release. With the promise of mods coming soon, the constant updates, and the weekly free DLC, it's only going to get better from here.

There's a lot to love about this game, and I could go on for a very long time. But I'll let the review speak for itself and just say I highly recommend everyone give this game a try.

The story is top notch, the voice acting fantastic, and the world absolutely stunning and incredible. It is HUGE. I am 30 hours into the game and have barely even scratched the surface of the Velen the area after the tutorial area. This wolrd is absolutely massive. The quests are amazing as well. They are engrossing and many times rather emotionally moving. The Bloody Baron's "Family Matters" and the witch's "Mice in the Tower" quests come to mind immediately. I was torn as to what to do, and the results of my own choices clearly had an effect on the NPCs with whom I interacted.

It also runs well (using the lowest settings) on sub-minimum spec laptop. Even on the lowest possible settings it is visually gorgeous and vibrant. The world is alive.

I cannot say enough about this game. It is the best of the best and the new benchmark by which all future games will be evaluated. If you have not done so, treat yourself to this game. Get it. Play it. Enjoy it.

The feeling I got when standing for the first time in the middle of a forest with a howling wind and raining falling sideways while all the leaves and the trees where moving in unison left me in awe... just stood there for several minutes contemplating the madness of it all.

Combat: Fantastic, it growths more and more complex and rewarding as you advance in the game and you assing skill points and alternative modes for your signs. Dodging, rolling, parring and riposte is everything I wanted for for Geralt and feels spot on everytime.

Music and sound FX: Probably the weakest point. If you linger in one area for an extended period of time music can turn repetetive. It has some great tunes but I wish it appeared more sparingly and not every 30 seconds. Voice dubs are excellent on the other hand and every main character feels super distinctive and with a defined personality, hell, even the common folk you encounter in a lost village have something to say for themselves.

General Aspects: I would like to highlight the general feel of the game. The world feels alive like in no other game before. I once stepped into a village where the chief needed help with a monster that was murdering people in the outskirts. When proceeding to kills such monster I was given the option to spare its life because it was sentient and claimed the killings were accidents that it could not control. I chose to believe it and set the monster free from its prison. I informed the chief the problem was dealt with and everything is OK right? Nope, some time later a step in the same village again only to find out the monster I had set free had killed every person and I found the mutilated bodies all over the village. Blood everywhere and no signs of a fair fight. I come back once again to the same village in the middle of nowhere only to find that it is now a festering ground full of ghouls and other necrophages... I could go on but this example is enough to point out the absurd amount of work and love that was put into this game. So much care for details, so much work in the quests you can opt to take. etc. Amazing.

Conclusion: A game for the ages. If you are still not convinced maybe Gwent will hehe (google it!).

Side missions are pretty cool too. Nice to do different things except for once and each side mission has different outcomes which is neat.

But why a 7/10. Because the gameplay is dreadful. This is where The Witcher 3 really loses it's points because the combat system is just bland. Like sure the first couple of encounters I loved killing enemies left and right but then it gets old quick. People have told me to increase the difficulty.... but that doesn't change anything. You are limited to a formula styled combat system which is the BIGGEST reason that makes it bland. It isn't tactic as people say it is... it just feels like I'm playing a easier version of Dark Souls, but dark souls you need to adapt, with The Witcher 3, all you really have to do is put some oils, use the proper sword and witcher signs. To some the combat could be interesting but to me it got old really quick. And you are limited to Geralt, a witcher... you know what that means, you cannot play a character you want to play. They gave you a template and said "Here now you shape your character with what you get." In RPGs you actually get to choose different classes and races and with all these choices available for you to role play off from. You hardly get much to progress in this game, and the game is a role playing game... you get to role play yes but you are really limited compared when playing other roleplaying games.

    Overall Gameplay > Story

People don't seem to understand nowadays that good stories doesn't make a game good. It's a good gameplay that will prosper overall. If I wanted a good story, I would rather read a book. So I don't see how Witcher 3 can be the best RPG even when classics like Ultima, Planescape Tourment, Baldur's Gate, Early TES exist. Witcher 3 is a good story driven game, easily comparable to current Bioware titles such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Also to all you hardcore fanboys out there... stop comparing The Witcher 3 with ever damn game that releases. I swear one dude compared The Witcher 3 to Forza Horizon 3. I'm not joking.

My impressions after spending close to 10 hours in this game.

    Pros:
    1) Wide open world and freedom of exploration. Exploration feels rewarding with all the places of power, valuable (and not so valuable, which is also important) loot, different enemies and quests you can encounter in your journey. 10/10
    2) Immersive and believable environments, including villages, a rather big town/city for a video game (excluding Assassin's Creed and GTA), forests, fields, waterways. etc., with significant level of detail to them. 10/10
    3) Inventory management. Was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they included different armors (in four pieces) which are actually displayed on the character, as well as many weapons, ingridients, clutter, etc. All those things, even insignificant miscellaneous items like borken rakes, are vital for a game which strives to be truly immersive. 9/10 - as you can't manipulate objects within the environment, like in TES series, placing all those little thingies on shelves and tables in your house:)
    4) Graphics. Despite the whole downgrade thing, the game looks good and is pleasant to play. I run it on gtx 980, all ultra, 2560 x 1440 - no significant lag. Haven't measured the exact FPS though, but the game flows comfortably, suppose it is around 50-60 FPS. There are a couple of annoying things like trees' branches and sunflowers clipping through the buildings' walls, which can manifest itself even during cutscenes in building interiors. Some textures and meshes, mostly in interiors look lazy close up, but that is just a minor thing. Overall the game looks awesome. 8/10
    5) Characters/ dialogue - seem rather believable and well written. There is a nice balance between seriousness and humor in this game, whith the main story line and overall setting being all mature and gritty while some of the sidequests and minor interactions can make you smile or even laugh at times. Whith a fine level of detail to the characters and an ok facial animations this part of the game experience is pretty great for an open world game of this scale. 10/10
    6) Character progression/levelling - is rather interesting and encourages sometimes hard choices/ tradeoffs. 9/10

Cons (or the things I am not entirely satisfied with):
    1) The pc mouse/keyboard controls seem unresponsive and inconvenient. This is not the problem of this game in particular. I remember this type of controls scheme (where the mouse is responsible not for turning the caracter around, but for the movement of the camera) as far back as Gothic 2 (which this game reminds me a lot of) and most certainly it was around for a lot longer. It takes some getting used to and spoils the experience just a little, making you run and jump around the chest or enemiy's body, trying to face it correctly in order to loot. 6/10
    2) The biggest problem for me so far - the levelled quests system! I think that while it is great that the game does not level with the player, adapting all the enemies to the player's current abilities, the quest level requirements system currently implemented in witcher 3 is very artificial, immersion breaking and a bit lazy. Why put artificial constrains on players, making them avoid certain things just because they are told they are not yet fit for that? For example I took a quest in Novigrad (no spoilers rest assured), without immediately looking into my journal to check if I was worthy (why would I want to look in the journal while entering a house - which activates the quest?). Agreeing to help the guy I was jumped by several 'immortal' thugs who I was not able to even harm (Witcher being butcered by minor city bandits - immersion breaking). Later on I realized that this was a 30-something levelled quest. Had to reload. I am absolutely ok with having to run from enemies above my level or facing difficulties, but placing players in situations like I described above is not cool. 5/10
    3) Combat system - not entirely bad, yet it is lacking in depth and encouraging unrealistic behavior by the player. Most fights look like jumping and running around the foes trying to hit him while avoiding being hit yourself. I am yet to see the game where realistic swordfighting with blocking, sidestepping and parrying instead of jumping 4 meters to one's side is implemented. Yes, It is possible to block and sidestep in this game, but more often than not the most effective way to evade injury is to jump - that's sad. 6/10

Overall, while there are many more minor pros and cons (for example I am not yet able to assess the storyline), I should say that this game lived up to my expectations and in some ways even surpassed them. As an RPG fan with almost 15 years of gaming 'experience', valuing immersion, freedom, choices, and level of detail I enjoyed this game very much, even being just 10 hours in.

8/10 in current state, probably 10/10 if the CDPR do something with levelled quests and controls (which,to my mind, is highly unlikely).

Game is challenging as I play on harder difficulty but it is rewarding to learn the combat mechanics - New people to the game might struggle a bit but take the time to study and learn the tactic and you will love it.

Regarding the visuals, It is really impressive - I was a bit disappointed in the sense that I expected a better lighting system but still it's worth any penny I paid the game for. It is not that demanding compared to the 2 in is time.

I play on Ultra at 1440p with a sli gtx 970 setup - i7 4790K - 16gb ram and I cruise at 58-60 fps on a Rog Swift g sync monitor. AWESOME I am really impress with textures on armors and clothes and the faces are really detailed

bugs: some but who can name a game that as not? some NPC popping - nights a bit too bright - some stutter - thats about it on what I saw so far after maybe 15 hours - so nothing that won't be fix soon.

Purchase this game if you like RPG - It is just a no brainer

Advice: Just take your time - I don't even intend to do all quests - I pick the ones I feel fit my Witcher - the others will be in another playthrough - rushing this game or power levelling is a shame to do. Just don't

I have to say though, I'm far from disappointed with the game. I has a lot going for it : a great story line with convincing characters set in a masterfully well designed world. The ambiance and setting in general are really impressive, the attention to detail in this war torn country is incredible. I personally thoroughly enjoyed almost every single quest (from all the different witcher contracts to the intricate main quest). I spent way too much time roaming the countryside, speaking to everyone I could, playing the most interesting minigame ever created (seriously it's pretty much a game in itself), and of course, reaching every one of those tantalizing question marks. The way all these activities flow together is truly amazing, there are rarely any loading screens except when quick traveling, even buildings are pre-loaded and can be enter or left without even pressing a button, and horse riding from one place to another is actually quite enjoyable.
From the graphics point of view, although not quite as optimized as I might have hoped for, they are still quite stunning and again, CDProjectRed's attention to detail really shines.
What's left is the core game-play mechanic : combat. This is why this game doesn't really deserve a perfect 10 in my book (although still one of the best games I've played in my life). It's solid and functional, especially with the new key assignment freedom, I'd even go as far as to say it really enjoyable(cutting heads and torsos off is brutally satisfying), however, it lacks the creative innovation that the rest of the game shows. It doesn't have the occasional variety of Dragon Age Inquisition (with its numerous combat options), or the tactical precision of Dark Souls, or better yet, the awesomeness and innovation of Dragon's Dogma (I pray for the day game devs integrate DD's combat mechanics into alltogether better games..... what a shame it is that you can't climb on a fiend or an earth elemental and wack it to death). It serves it's purpose as it is occasionally challenging and stays interesting with different upgrades, skills and items, but its a good thing there's much more to do in the Witcher 3 (and that the game is not really all that about combat).
All in all I was really impressed by this game, it's very immersive, fun, deep and interesting. It does have a few flaws but the rest of the game clearly makes up for them, and more.

Another big + for CD-PR is for optimisation, game runs great on my old 750 TI on high-ultra settings (with grass detail level set to medium)

    TL;DR.
Great game, totally deserves at least 9+ for HUGE amount of content it provides, and is MUST-BUY.

I've enjoyed this game to a degree, but alas... it's 5/10 for me.

What is a 10/10 game? It's a perfect game, without a single flaw, without a single thing that would force you out of its immersion. It's a game that's bound to make you forget thirst and hunger, and all of your real life problems. It is a game that revolutionises its field and becomes a bastion in the industry of gaming.

Unfortunately, what a lot fail to realise is that a 10/10 rating is an exaggeration, even upon the game you very love.

The Witcher 3 brings over fifteen hours of dialogue. To many, this is a joy. To me, unfortunately, a burden.
If you would like to finish this game, just the main storyline, expect to be laid back for 1/5 of your time, listening to characters talk, listening to a conversation that is out of your control. Surely, you might think there are options of what would you like to say, but much of the game's dialogue follows this format: 1-2 dialogue options in gold font, meaning this option will continue the story. 1-5 options with a grey font, meaning selecting these options will 'tell you more' about whatever you're talking about.
To 99% of people this is very appealing. The game literally tells you which dialogue options will change your standing with the character you're talking to. However, in terms of traditional RPG this is very disappointing. If you remember Witcher 1, in which your dialogue options could force a character never to talk to you again, in which your dialogue choices may mean that you fail a quest. In Witcher 3, your hand is held throughout the whole experience. It would be just as effective to remove the dialogue options and make you watch the dialogue without them. Is this the kind of RPG you are all praising? Is this the new bastion of gaming? I must be truly insane, but it's a step back. No longer will you be encouraged to think about what you say: just press the buttons and enjoy the film.

A film - yes. This game is an interactive film. Reading some 10/10 reviews you see praises of "complex narrative", and statements of Witcher 3 "feeling like a complex novel you have to struggle through", so clearly I am just the odd one out, to see that this game is nothing new. However I do agree on the struggling point - you most likely will find yourself struggling through some cheaply-written dialogue that lasts at least twenty minutes, at some point in this game.

A game of such length is a risk. On an average playthrough this game is approximately 100 hours long.
Meaning that the first hour of your gameplay must be different from the 99th hour of your gameplay, to keep it fresh and engaging. What I really fail to understand, is the plethora of people turning a blind eye on the extreme lack of actual gameplay in this game.
    - 1st hour or 99th hour: you WILL be using THE SAME fighting method, swordfighting. To make it better, the animations which your character will be fighting with will be THE SAME throughout the whole game, seeing little to no change at all (you may choose to learn a whirlwind move, maybe). Where is the gameplay progression? Why can't the Witcher have the options of learning new moves from other lost schools?

    - I craft a potion only once in my lifetime. When I meditate, ALL of my potions and bombs magically refill. No matter how many of them I have. One hundred flasks to refill? Why not, it will only take a few shots of dwarven spirit that is literally in every container in the game. Why should I be a witcher at all? Let's start brewing things magically out of thin air and make money like that, screw the monster slaying.
    - I receive insane amounts of XP for doing storyline missions. Slaying monsters for experience? Well I'll be here until my hair turns white, oh wait, it already is!
    - Want to earn some money? Do a witcher contract and get paid in around 300 orens! Want some *serious* money? Swim to one of the question marks on the world map in Skellige and you shall find smuggler's treasure there! Sell it to receive at least 2500 orens.
    - Wait what? How did I know there was treasure in the sea? Oh wait the noticeboard told me!
    - Oh I found a new sword. Oh wait... my *witcher* sword that I crafted is better than 99% of the swords in this game...
    - Oh yay I have over 10000 herbs, tens of armour items and tens of swords in my inventory that I shouldn't use cause they're crap, oh wait but they will sell for a fortune!
    - I am richer than a king!!!! I just read noticeboards and find treasures! Screw witcher work!
    - For some reason, everyone I know keeps explaining things to me... Maybe because I haven't read the novels?
    - Hmmm maybe I should prepare for the next battle? Oh wait, why should I? I'll just open my inventory and drink potions while I am doing a back flip?
    - Can I do a backflip? Probably not, I forgot how to do that since Witcher 1.

I like the game, but it's mediocre. Open world interactive film- not an RPG. Save yourself money and look on YouTube for "Witcher 3 Film".

Arguably the most refined game in the series. Witcher 1 felt like a point and click adventure with terrible combat (and too much of it). Witcher 2 had a story that felt like a cliff hanger interlude, a diversion from the over arching narrative. Witcher 3 caps the series nicely and ties into the novels in a more meaningful way than its predecessors.

The open world is divided into a few different areas featuring a good amount of geographic diversity. There is a lot to explore and uncover but it does not feel as rewarding as it should. Weapons and equipment are locked by character level. You can craft the high level items if you have the materials, but you won't be able to use them until much later in the game. Witcher gear is often the best equipment in the game. You "unlock" witcher gear by completing Treasure Hunt quests - exploring the game world to find the diagrams so craftsmen can make it for you. Witcher contracts provide your primary source of income - slaying monsters or solving problems usually involving monsters for peasant villagers and the like. Because quests have a recommended level, it can be difficult to get going at first. You can, of course, brave high level quests at a low level, but on higher difficulties this is not advisable.

Overall, the story is very good. It ties into characters from the novels not featured in previous games. Due to the open world mechanic, the pacing of the story will vary with how much emphasis the player places on pursuing the main quest or getting lost in side quests and activities. Players who spend their time trying to eek out everything the world has to offer might feel the game has poor pacing. It's difficult to care about the urgency of the main quest when Geralt is more concerned about doing side jobs or playing card games with NPCs.

Many quests have surprisingly well written twists in the narrative. Things are often very cynical and this gets repetitive. I also felt this way about the novels in general. The writers for this game have emulated the author's writing style so well some side plots or twists in the narrative become very predictable.

Character leveling allows for a wide variety of builds on three archetypes - combat, signs, and alchemy. You can mix and match to your heart's content. You get 1 skill point per level but can accumulate more through world exploration.

Combat is fluid and responsive. A great variety in enemies requires a great variety in tactics. You can drink potions in combat again and switching between equipment is very easy with the pop up wheel. The mouse and keyboard controls are fine but I found the game a lot more enjoyable with a game pad. Parrying or deflecting arrows no longer consumes stamina - only signs do. Every time you meditate, alcohol is consumed to replenish both potions and bombs.

Overall great game. Some people might wish exploring the world yielded more XP or material reward. The game's length is somewhat artificially padded by requiring you to pursue side activities in order to advance your character or produce/procure supplies. This could lead to pacing issues for some people. Great, if sometimes predictable, story with memorable characters and events.

I don't think there will ever be an experience quite as fulfilling as The Witcher 3. This game is just THAT good. This is a benchmark for what a videogame needs to be in its essence. Expand

Hands down the most enjoyable gaming experience I have ever had (been gaming about 20 years). Amazing graphics, story, scope, style, writing -- this game has it all.

It has been a long time since I played a game that was this good. I'm not saying the game was perfect, but it was a lot of fun. I'm not too familiar with the first two games, so I don't know the whole story, but I really liked the ending. I wish more more game developers were like CD Projekt Red and actually cared about delivering an awesome game instead of just raking in $$.

So .. to be reall graphics are almost perfect .. they are not as high as promissed on earlyer trainer but then they are soo close that you dont realy feel a differents .. the game is still as beutiful as in all those trailers.

Audio: ohh man some of that music gave me just the chill .. no joke its a master pice in the withcer universe of music.

story: storry can be stressing .. you try to save the world but are affraid to forget anny side quest .. and thats true nær the last 6-10 hours of gameplay you get a warning that this is you last chance to fix thinks do you wanna proceed ? well all side quest that efect the outcome of the story will after this point be removed if you dont have taken them and here is the issue have i done all? it turnd out in the end that i have forgoten one pretty inportant quest that greatly affected the outcome on a part of the end story to the negative ) i tried to make shure that my story outcome would be the best .. shure the rest was a good ending but not that one quest. so its har somthimes to find all quest even tho they try to tell you about all available quest . this is well my most negative point of the game ..in the end i still sit left with what a great game it was and now i wait for the expansion

my score based on what i have seen and how i feel about this game are in 9.5 ish i round up to 10 becouse in the end it realy was a greate game and i hope they can make a witcher 4 even better and bigger .... =) i dont whant this to end now after 2 more expansion it realy feels like now the game starts to kicking realy ..

Part of the reason i found myself so attached to the characters is because i have completed both the previous games and although that inst necessary to enjoy this one it certainly helps!

The only downside is that they have raised the bar for open world RPG's so high i think it will be a long time until i enjoy something as much as this.

Making effective use of your signs, potions and oils and knowing whether to use steel or silver adds a higher level of immersion to fighting the world's many monsters.

CD Projekt Red have crafted a rich world full of fantasy, ambiguity and political intrigue. Even the seemingly smallest of tasks can become elaborate quests. The Bloody Baron quest line in particular is unforgettable. The storytelling, voice acting and relationships Geralt has make the world feel tangible and believable. The change to open world meant a means of fast travel was needed. Of course you can travel via signposts or you can get where you need to go on your trusty steed Roach.

The game can be quite serious but also knows when to have a bit of fun and humor as well. You can participate in fist fights and horse races. You can also play a round of Gwent. I liked the in game card game so much I even ordered the PS4 version of the Witcher 3 just for the Gwent cards.

There is so much quality fresh content to be had that never feels like its unnecessary padding. Angry Joe had stated he got more out of the Witcher 3 for the same price he has paid for lesser games. I couldn't agree with him more. CD Projekt Red have also seen fit to offer 16 pieces of free DLC as well.

One of the best games I have played. The "Hearts of Stone" dlc makes it all the better. I think what I really loved about this game is how some of the side quests actually tie into the main storyline. It's not just where you do a quest and it has no impact; no, you do a sidequest and it either directly effects the storyline, or your actions are at least mentioned in the game. This has been one of the best games that I have ever played, I'm a huge fan of singleplayer games, even though many says that multiplayer is better because of the social part, this RPG doesn't at all.

This is like Game of Thrones in game version.

Needless to say, I was blown away. The game is stunningly beautiful. The optimization is actually SUPERB (35-50fps at 1440p is amazing on GTX970). The world is immersive like I've never seen before. The only thing I think I might do is remove the depth of field. The 'haze' in the distance when the camera pans out is not so cool. In fact, the detail of things up close is better.

The combat can be a bit clunky at times on PC. My style of play seems to be roll-attack-roll-attack-roll-attack. To each their own...there's a lot of room for messing around with style of play. It can be a bit challenging at times because your enemies hit hard, but it does add to the sense of realism. You might be powerful, but even with armor you're still a bit fragile.

The open-world is also very impressive. Yes, most of it is rather bare, but that's to be expected in a real world. A lot of the time you'll stumble across a creature that is just too strong. Or you'll encounter a bandit camp or some other interesting place. The world is indeed packed with content, and you get to enjoy beautiful scenery getting there.

What impressed me most though, even more than the graphics and the gameplay, is the character depth. There are a few voice actors that get re-used, but not only are almost all the characters totally different, but they have their own personalities and a certain depth. You're really not going to see many stock characters. All of them have motives and attitudes. The dialogue is varied and your choices do matter.

The plot of the main quest and even each of the side quests is very interesting. At times I'm like...'okay, I KNOW what's going to happen. This is obvious', but that's mostly the writer inside me. There were a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming.

Overall I have to say that this has been an RPG that has engaged and engrossed me at every turn. The sheer scale of the game and the world is just incredible. I am not a god among the denizens of the world, but rather a piece of the puzzle, a cog in the machine. It's been quite an experience.

Without a doubt, this is the best game I've ever played.

Finally a game that has toped all others for me as an open world RPG experience. Thrilling story with great choices that really reflect your output on the storyline and characters, really fun combat and well balanced leveling development.
Congratulations to the entire development team and thank you for coming up with this masterpiece. 10/10 would play and love every second of it.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
