This game is a masterpiece. It is possible that it is the greatest rpg game ever. Side quests are not boring, the game world is huge, weapons are great and combat although has some minor problems, is glorious.

Seriously people stop puting your nose in the screens examining every pixel and enjoy this work of art. Someday I will expland this review (I hope), but I felt the urge to say something about the lame criticism this game is getting, it's beyond ridiculous. Btw, fear not because right now the optimization is really good. I'm playing it on my 970M SLI laptop in Ultra (xept for the quantity of foliage and people (high) and hairworks off) and I'm getting a clear and smooth 57-60 constant fps. I can't imagine how this game will be in a few months with a few updates and patches... Don't listen to 'graphics inquisition' and do yourself a favor: Buy this game! Expand

Uma sequência digna para a saga de Geralt of Rivia. Imersivo, profundo, belo e desafiador. Há capricho em todos os lugares, e você vai querer contemplar a sonoplastia enquanto cavalga solitário pelos campos.

Graphics and effects = Excellent (GTX 960 almost ultra settings with a few things turned down 40-50fps)
Story and lore = Really quite incredible, the Immersion is unbelievable,
Controls = Feels like a delay in the responsiveness at times, but I feel this is a minor flaw really as you can easily work around this.

I have put about two and a half hours in so far and I love everything in it, the only real downside so far is that when riding your horse around it can become quite difficult to make him go where you want to, but you get used to it quickly. I especially like the way that they have made it so that you do not have to had already played the previous Witcher games to enjoy Wild Hunt. I'd still say it's a good idea so that you can remember who some of the returning characters are, but it is not necessary. From what I've heard about the console versions, it does not run too well. especially on PS4. But the consoles will always struggle to keep up with the PC version and for me at least I have been fully able to run the game maxed out with over 60 FPS constantly. If you are a fan of The Witcher or RPGs in general, then the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is a game for you. With over 100 hours playtime just for the campaign, I believe this to be one of the best made games yet, hence the high rating. Expand

The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece and it is going to be a very tough act to follow, I believe it will be a very long time before we see a game like this again.

This is a truly deep and mature RPG, brutally hard on the two highest difficulty settings and requiring much, much more from the player than simple button mashing. This is a deep, complex, intelligent and mature RPG for a mature audience. The story goes to great lengths to avoid clichés, and even pokes fun at them at times. For someone like myself, who has more than 15 years of RPG experience, it is a real treat to be able to take part in this world.

I don't give out perfect 10/10 easily but here is a game that truly deserves it, CD Projekt RED has gone above and beyond to realize their vision. There are few niggles here and there, small things that could be improved perhaps. But knowing CD Projekt RED they will continue to polish this masterpiece a few more times before they finally call it done.

If you like RPG's buying the Witcher 3 is a no brainer, it is a game you simply have to play. And when you do be sure to savour it and take your time. This is one of the finest RPG's of our generation

The only things that hinder the game are the inevitable glitches of an open world game, and minor issues. Interacting with the environment objects when trying to loot, Roach not wanting to go over bridges, and difficulty looting because your not in the exact right spot. The quest have not devolved into "Collect 5 of these" like Inquisiton somewhat did. Many complained about Inquisiton that the opening area was large, and all subsequent areas varied from slightly smaller to much smaller. Witcher 3 does the opposite. The opening area is relatively small. My first thought was, " Oh **** Im going to blow through this in a week if it's this small. Then as soon as I finished the starting area I realized how immense the world was, and how filled it was with things to do. Every quest has character and importance to the local populace. I can go on for hours. Or at least an hour or two. The simplest way to put it is that this is the greatest Role Playing Game created to date. A must play for anyone who enjoys RPG's. This game's biggest fault is it's main character, he is just not relatable in any way. I would actually prefer, if some of these female characters was actual main character of Witcher 3, because they were at least somewhat likable and interesting. Also, there's fortunately no mouse acceleration, as far as I can tell. I'd imagine a controller's 360 degree analog movement is better for this kind of game anyways than the 8 directions of WASD.

    Story:
    It's Witcher, enough said.

    Graphics:
The game looks very good. I avoided watching any of the trailers or pre-release footage, so I am not sure about the graphics downgrade, but on ultra it is easily one of the best looking games on PC to date. The optimization/frame rate is also very good. With a single GTX 970, I am running on ultra (except for foliage distance, which is on high since it has significant FPS impact) at 1080p and the frame rate almost never dips below 60 FPS.

    Audio:
AMAZING voice acting, music, and sound effects. A lot of multiplatform games these days are 50 or 60 GB (Titanfall, CoD, etc.), where 90 percent of it is uncompressed audio meant to fill up the disks on the console versions. This game is 26 GB, yet has some of the best sound I've heard in a game.

The best story I've ever seen in a game and it rivals even Lord of the Rings for books and movies. It has amazing graphics, and continues to impress as you crank it to 1600p and ultra everything.

The most innovative and intriguing thing about the game is that decisions you make matter (without a simple good/evil bar), and often you will not know the extent of your decisions for hours or even tens of hours (none of this "so and so will remember that" from Telltale games and none of the simple and obvious good/bad choices of almost every other game ever.

It also has fantastic setting and lore, which pays lots of fan service to Witcher 2 fans (like me) but is absolutely accessible to people who never played either other game (like my wife). Finally, it is just plain ridiculously fun and never got old even after 135 hours.

Yes, it is a bit clunky to control (but only out of combat), the swimming is atrociously bad, the inventory cannot be sorted, and some other minor issues as well. But when you absolutely nail every other part of your game, it just doesn't matter.

Even when I went on a three hour epic quest after rope that I needed to make an armor set (seriously, rope is rarer than diamonds in this game!), I enjoyed the search and stumbled upon a lot of fun and interesting details and encounters in the world I probably wouldn't have found otherwise. The world CDProjekt Red has created is one that I cannot but praise. I find most open worlds to be uninteresting after a few hours, and oftentimes the story in such games isn't interesting enough for me to continue it, so I end up wandering aimlessly around the world until I quit and never play again. Fortunately both the world, story, quests and its inhabitants were more than enough to keep me playing for hours on end.

If you're a fan of the previous Witcher games, I see no reason for you not to enjoy this one immensely. If you're coming in looking for another Skyrim or a fantasy GTA, you're probably going to be disappointed. The Witcher 3 is first and foremost a story-driven RPG, not a sandbox. When I looked back at the story and characters in The Witcher 2 (a game I love greatly, despite its flaws), I realised how much better TW3 did these things. I have yet to encounter a semi-important character that isn't interesting in some way or a quest outside of monster and treasure hunts that doesn't have an interesting story to tell or a twist that turns everything on its head.

But do note that this is the opinion of someone who loves the previous games and mature, dark fantasy in the same vein as Game of Thrones. It's important to note that the PC performance is somewhat iffy, the graphics have been "downgraded" from the first trailers, the options for PC are underwhelming and when you reach the edges of the world, you are turned around (sometimes the edges are at very odd places, like the middle of a small island).. These things don't bother me enough to give it a lesser score, but could be enough to greatly annoy other people. So, as always, do take a score with a grain of salt, especially on Metacritic where people speak with 10s and 0s, and everything in between are as rare as golden dragons.

Oh, and Gwent, Gwent is addictive and could have been a small release on its own. Too few people mention Gwent, because to me that little card game is a huge plus.

As a story-driven, open world RPG with more than serviceable combat, and as a Witcher game, it is to me a 10/10, and probably one of my all time favorite games.

The game easily deserves a 9 or maybe even more. The reason i am giving it a 10 is because of all the zero that keep popping up. A person that gives this game a zero has obviously NEVER played it or is just a hater and biased against it.
A truly magnificent game, buy it.

One NOT to miss. I look forward to a DirectX 12 version of the game in the coming months for even more awesomeness! Expand

So far i've played for about 5 hours and the game has a fantastic atmosphere, music and visuals. The combat system seems very fluid and satisfying (big step forward compared to 2nd instalment). Writting is as always outstanding. The world looks and feels alive. Even the smallest quests I encountered are well written and simply interesting. Everything looks astonishing and runs great on i5-4570, 8GB and msi gtx 760 2GB Twin Froz in 1080p on high settings (number of background character on ultra and shadows on medium) with depth of field, blur, ssao, light shafts, sharpening, vignette on. I have solid 30fps (with 30 fps cap)

Now I am sitting in my job, writting this review but the only thing I can think of is where will I go and what will I do as Geralt. This is how modern RPGs should look - with great technology but not deprived of the most important aspects of this genre: great story, characters, choices and depth - this game will not offend your intelligence (and i am a long-time fan of Planscape Torment, Vampire: Bloodlines, Fallout 1&2 and Arcanum fan). Now run to the store and buy it!

I'm not extremely familiar with a lot of technical language so forgive me if this isn't the most. I am probably one of the few gamers that care more about story then I necessarily about play; however there has definitely been games in the past that have been unplayable for me due to strange mechanics.

With said, I feel like the game play mostly follows suit with the previous witchers, especially the second one. There are times it's harder to control Geralt, and when I'm fighting, especially by edges, I find myself tumbling down the side of it.

Despite the "down grade" I think the graphics are definitely up to standard and on my computer I can't even play max settings; I have heard that max setting don't change that much from medium or high, however they look fine to me. I have a bigger issue with the lack of motion within the camera, and my ability to control it more so then the graphics.

Anyway, despite some issues I have with how the mechanics of the game play, or interface work, I find the story and world thrilling.

I like the fact that Geralt in this game as so many more options when it comes to gear and customizing him. The world is dark and grim; the witcher and game of thrones have much in common.

Because I find the world and the story so fascinating and view playing RPGs as interacting with a novel (or something along those lines).

Game play is a bonus to me and the story alone is enough to have me give it a 10/10.

This game is definitely the best RPG I've played to date, I've got 14 hours game time in 1 day and I can't get away from it. The atmosphere, the story, the gameplay, everything is brilliant.

I'm playing on the second hardest setting and have more or less cleared the first area (all points of interest, etc.), and I can say it was fairly difficult and now that I'm in Velen the game is really challenging at times. I think I've died about 30 times so far, quick-saves are really important, even though auto-saves work pretty good too.

I've nothing bad to say about the game. The talk about downgrade is completely baseless and untrue. The game looks better to me than on the gameplay trailers and even if you don't like how it looks now, you can always mod it or tweak the .ini settings to make it look differently.

At first i think immersion in this game is a joke. You are coming in to people's houses and steel all the food, booze and other valuable equipped right from their noses. It's just ridiculous! They should at least react somehow to that. Even good old Gothic has been done better about this.
Being a Medieval-Batman isn't that fun either. Geralt is just too perfect, with no faults whatsoever. It just feels so fake and maybe it is the reason it was so hard for me to like him. Besides, you can't be anyone you want here. You are being you sitting on your butt and creating Geralt's legend and his ego. I don't think it is what RPGs are about.

The story itself, that supposed to be the strongest part of this game, is jut meh.
Geralt is looking for his so-called daughter, and at som point when her realize that Wild hunt is after her, insed of freaking out he's got time for taking 1182151/!@#"!%1 witcher contracts, wiping out all that monster nests (even not being paid for that which is wrong story-wise), doing stupid fetch quests etc. Bah! He even goes to vineyards to have a lazy nap. It's just perfectly average story, badly balanced where you can totally lost the interest of it. The fact the game tells you exactly where to go and what to do doesn't help, it just makes it mindless slasher at some point.

The graphics are OK but the landscapes doesn't feel that good. The woods are so shaky, artificial and dead (except being filled in with monsters), it doesn't feel any good exploring it.
In W1 & W2 everything was so unique and looked nice, made with attention to details. Here we have copy-paste boring villages with some copy-paste villagers that all look the same except different clothing. Honestly, sandbox style just doesnt fit Witcher setting at all.

Obviously, the combat. It just not accurate enough. You can be hit by enemy being few meters away. Besides that, all fights comes to dodging and repetitive slashing from behind. Throw some Quen barrier and you are ready to go for entire game.

Conversations are taking ages. They should be more brief, like in Dark Souls for example, where all the dialogues was live and you could quit them just simply moving out from that character. How immersive was that! Here we are forced to watch how people breath, when they sit, thinking about something pause etc. It's just so overdone, make no sense like eating a hot dog and having champagne with it. Even more because there is no philosophical content in their speeches. Its all very shallow here (nothing to do for Planescape Torment fans).

Music is the only thing i have no complains about.

Absolutely not a game for me, i love the classic rpgs above all, so if you are a fan of those you might feel bit disappointed (or a little bit more than that).

Let me get this out of the way. Despite the "downgraded" visuals, this is the most visually stunning open world game I have seen so far. I am constantly stopping my horse and telling myself "Geez, this looks amazing!".

What's really incredible is how well it looks and performs with modest hardware. My i5 3570k+R9 280 handles the game just fine at 1080p with every thing set to Ultra except for shadows and foliage distance (set to High). Had this game been developed by Ubisoft, you would've needed a Quad SLI/Crossfire set up to run it at 720P with only half the draw distance.

There has also been claims of the game crashing. I started playing with patch 1.03 and have not had a single technical issue the 18hrs I've played so far. Can you say the same about any other AAA title out there? CDProjectRed needs to be commended for delivering such a solid title, specially when you consider the scope of the game.

Gameplay-wise, this is truly an evolution of previous Witcher games. The stories and environments are familiar but in a much grander scale. Complex political machinations are delivered in a simple enough way that even a simpleton like myself can understand, yet do not sacrifice any of the entertainment value.
The combat is much better than previous titles. Don't expect tight controls like Dark Souls, but it is fun and satisfying enough to stop it like feeling like a chore.

I could go on forever talking about this game and how good it is. I really could! But let me just say it has been years since I bought a game that has made me stop my life just so I could play. The Witcher 3 has exceeded my expectations in every way.

Overrated average game with tons of empty landscapes and monsters to kill. Basically clone of Skyrim, but Skyrim did it 4 years earlier and they did it better.

The scale in this game is enormous. I haven't played much but I am already blown away. It's way bigger that even GTA 5 map and in that game you get around by car instead of horse and fast travel. So far the story is great and the cut scenes are absolutely fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of the whole crafting system but other than that, great game so far. Glad I bought it.

I have 28 hours of playtime under my belt and I can honestly say this is the most fun I have had in a video game in over a decade. A single player video game, even longer. The Witcher 3 is a 10/10, CD Projekt Red has hit a home run with this one guys.

The main difference between this game and other RPGs is the quests are all wonderful. Every side-quest is well thought out and fun to complete. There is absolutely none of that "kill 10 x and loot 8 y" nonsense that plagues modern RPGs like a pox. Everything I have experienced in this game has been consistently enriching and enjoyable. The Witcher 3 even comes loaded with a full-blown TCG that is associated with quests lines of its own that span the entire continent. I have enjoyed traveling from village to village to challenge innkeepers and win their special cards as much as I have enjoyed hunting monsters during witcher contracts.

It has been a long time since I felt the need to eagerly listen to and dissect every piece of dialogue in a video game. The voice acting is top notch, leading to wonderful, compelling character encounters. In terms of side-quests there is so much to do, so many monsters to hunt, so many problems to solve, and so many Gwent cards to win that most players will find themselves completely overwhelmed in the best possible way.

The combat is a stellar improvement over The Witcher 2, adapting to the type of monster you're encountering is probably the most exciting part for me. Bringing down a wyvern with a crossbow just feels wonderful, binding a wraith to the physical plain to do maximum damage really immerses you in the game. Preparing for a tough monster during a contract quest feels great, going in knowing you're prepared for the situation is as rewarding as collecting the sweet sweet loot after.

It has been a long long time since a game convinced me it is occurring in its own world, but the Witcher 3 does it. The last time I felt this way was Ultima Online, circa 1997. Like I said at the beginning of my review, The Witcher 3 is a 10/10.

So I've started exploring the small events in the map and the side quests. Those were a bit amusing, but nothing better than what it's possible to experience in any average RPG. Still, it was a pain in the butt that the game forces me to use those impractical and uninspired spells to defeat some specific monsters.

Then, I went to the main quests, and I got extremely annoyed by the favor-for-a-favor element that guides you to endure unmeaningful tasks to move on through the story. Finally, when you get to the big city, my motivation to keep playing got absolutely destroyed, because of the lack of things to do there. I really tried but I can't feel any emotion for any character of this game due to the boring main plot. To finish it, I even skipped some cut-scenes because everything got really tiresome.

I was expecting something like Dragon Age or even better, but you can hardly interact with any npc in the game, outside of the quests and those boring dialogues without meaningful options, which makes it hard to get emotionally involved.

On a controller, the game plays perfectly fine. Horse combat could use some work, but there's nothing there that you cannot easily adapt to. I cannot speak for keyboard, as I've stuck with controller for this game.

    Graphics:
You people are still seriously falling for bullshots? Really? How naive are you? Not to mention, it still looks spectacular. The textures are extremely good considering it's an open world game that isn't demanding 4GB of VRAM for these textures. Beyond that, the lighting and weather are masterfully implemented, and do a splendid job at making the world seem real and tangible.

And as a special message to that individual that said Skyrim can look better: You are literally insane and need to seek professional help.

    Optimization:
The optimization (for Nvidia and Intel, anyway, as that's what I have) is very good. I'm running 2011 hardware (2600k i7, GTX 580, 2 in SLI), most of my settings are on high (some on medium, some on ultra, I'm also using HBAO+) and I still get 50-60 at all times. Every so often, it'll dip a bit lower in particularly intense situations, and in the middle of nowhere I'm in the 70's. And things look downright beautiful at these settings. If you're having a problem, there's either an AMD issue I don't know of (likely, as W3 was made very closely with Nvidia), or an issue with your computer. I'm several generations behind, and do just fine.

In my opinion, (which includes over 25 years of experience and countless hundreds of games) Witcher 3 is a borderline masterpiece. It's not quite worthy of a 10, but it's more than worthy of a 9. I could easily make an argument to include it in a top 10 or top 20 games of all time, but I will hold off on that until I 100% the game. And from what I read, that will take me several hundred hours, which is not at all a negative for me.

Lastly, Witcher 3 is likely going to be my personal GOTY. I have some hope for Metal Gear, but Witcher 3 is going to be hard to top.

There's a lot of comparisons floating around out there insisting this is better than this game or that. I will say I was extremely disappointed with dragon age: inquisition. Where that game is dumbed down and very simplistic, the wild hunt is completely opposite. It requires skill, not just button mashing.

Most impressive, however, is the story. The atmosphere of the game is that of a dark world, nations pitted against each other in war. You are on a mission to find your adopted daughter. I have stopped to do so many missions and have been blown away with the attention to detail; you end up caring about what happens and I find myself always wanting to know more. I cannot give the developers enough credit on their story telling. One side story ends up intertwining with your main mission, involving a Baron. The acting and story were so incredible, and I was even sad/intrigued at what had happened by the end. And then I realized I had a dozen more contracts I hadn't even touched yet.

Combat is a little off, but not terrible. I keep wanting to sneak attack and perform moves similar to Shadows of Mordor combat, which to me is a masterpiece in gameplay and combat mechanics. The Wild Hunt is soooo close to mirroring this in terms of controls, but it falls just slightly short. Sometimes it just feels like sword swings don't connect the way they should. With that said, nothing is more satisfying than seeing heads and limbs fly off.

I've had no problems what so ever performance or graphics wise, playing on an ASUS G751JY with a 980M nvidia card. FPS remains steady between 50 to 60 with all settings turned up. The game looks gorgeous. I will say the nvidia hair works is over rated and not worth the fps drop.

The only complaints I have are minor; aside from the combat mentioned above, what is with games wanting me to collect flowers and herbs across the whole map? This is not fun to me. Unfortunately, that is the way of things in games now; stop and collect a dozen herbs for this and that. Thankfully, this is much better done than in DA:Inquisition, where it takes a moment to bend down, pick it up, and stow it away. In wild Hunt, it's quick. Lastly, all the guys in the game are either overweight oafs, or look like complete dunces. While all the females are super models. Kinda looks funny.

    P.S. Ciri is HOT.

The game is just full of things I fell in love with in Sapkowki's books. Various quests, perfect surroundings (my joy is multiplied as I am from Poland and those Slavic accents are closer to my soul) outstanding characters, models, dubbing and the magic that is added through DETAILS.

Not only visual details but the sense of humour, dialogues and other things that cannot be measured. That gives you an opportunity to join the game and enjoy it like no other.

It demands a significant time investment however you are rewarded at every step. In a climate where gamers are being groomed to believe season passes, timed DLC and disc-locked content are completely acceptable, CD Projekt Red exists as a shining beacon in the darkness. They have delivered a beautiful and content-rich game to explore and a thrilling story to experience. In a rare move there is also DLC both large and small being offered free of charge down the line. It is obvious CD Projekt Red is comprised of gamers making games that they themselves would love and they deserve all the support we can muster. Do the industry a favour and vote with your wallet. Show the corporate fat cats that honesty and integrity are profitable commodities, and that games as an experience are supposed to transcend petty commercialism.

The Witcher III is a reminder of what we used to take for granted as gamers. It gives you much more than the retail price attached to it, and stands as a proud entry developed by a great studio from which only more greatness can come in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is extremely overrated.

First, the game is meant to be "standalone" according to the dev, therefore nullifying many story hooks that were made in the previous installments.

However, the game would occasionally use deus machina to solve problems from the books, despite it's standalone. It's rather convenient not required to answer for the early story hooks but "stay true" to the books.

Then, the player will go through "inevitable defeat" like the previous two games.

For example, the protagonist has to find NPC A to find NPC C, but in order to find A you'll have to talk to x amount of npcs. BUT after you talk to all those npcs, NPC B would have solved where NPC A is, therefore nullifying everything you just did.

The game forbids "money exploiting" by creating immersion breaking monsters to hunt you, instead of using the already existent level scaled guards to fight you.

The pathing is poor. It's one of those you've unlimited time to reach an event which is supposed to be emergent, just like Oblivion. Your daughter is being hunted therefore you should go and fetch pans and sheeps and girlfriends and whoreson and herbs and items in river for npcs.

The world is in dire danger! It's near the doom of everything! Quick, help me decorate my place. The horrible pathing gets ridiculous at times.

The boss of the story has 12 lines and all of his words are prude, but he is supposed to be intelligent. While a supposed emotionless Geralt has 1,000 times more lines than the boss, and most lines from Geralt are mumbling to himself.

There are so many wrongs with the game like badly implemented loot system close to pre diablo 3. Since random loots are boring and unexciting while crafting is most of the time worse than items in shops., you’ll just use the few sets and stick with those.

What I've said is just the surface, there are so much more wrongs with the game like extreme basic combats, laughable falling damage from 2 foot, fake open world that you jump "1 foot upward" then Geralt dies bugs.

The characters also felt written oriented to angst teenagers, at times Geralt’s sarcastic remarks remind me of Japanese light novels written for 13~15 years old.

The story isn’t much better and drags on with mmo style quests, the go to A so he asks you to get to B, then B wants you to to fetch C kind quests which breaks immersion. And the world is even less interactive than Gothic 2!

And don’t let me start on the use your witcher sense to follow red routine chores. It’s fun for the first time but become tedious routine chores after 10 hours, and most quests are either made with fetch or witcher sense usages.

The game sure has high production value but it’s not much a good game imho. Well, at least Gwent game is somewhat fun.

I played the first Witcher for a few hours before deciding, unequivocally, that the combat system was not quite as exciting or strategic as playing Pacman. I acknowledge the substance of the lore behind the series and I admire the philosophy of the CD Projekt Red team, which is why, after hesitating for so long, I decided that I'd give the Witcher 3 a whirl.

After five hours, I've abandoned the Witcher 3 and just won't bring myself to trust CD Projekt Red again.

The combat, again, essentially requires dodging between groups of enemies or around single large ones and using the same repeated sword swings. The animations are different but the action is the same. While there are options to use some abilities, the fundamentals of the combat remain identical and very inane. There are no tactical elements to combat like you would have in a turn based RPG like Baldur's Gate, or RTS games like Starcraft, or stealth-action games like Deus-Ex or Dishonored, or even FPS/Third person fantasy games like the Elder Scrolls. The combat is repeatedly to run into a fight and dodge around with perfect timing and not get hit, which is the gameplay mechanic of a cheap, pump-and-dump console game... and such a waste of the Witcher's content.

The flaws of combat essentially ruined the game for me. While the story is interesting, I can (and just have) read it on Wikipedia in 5 minutes to skip the drama (though I'm sure much time was put into the voice acting and animations). Without the drive to improve the character, who (like all RPGs) expresses himself primarily through combat, the side content has no meaning and the main story-line becomes only that - a story-line.

I love that they tried to make something so epic in scale of integrated content and take the RPG to somewhere where it hasn't been before but this is still a game and the action in the Witcher is flawed at the core and has remained so through the series. My experience with the Witcher is so frustrating and annoying precisely because I want so badly to enjoy the game but can't get past its most basic flaw - the gameplay is terrible. The pursuit of a massive library of beautiful content is not an excuse for making a bad game.

Also, as a post-script, the merchant system doesn't make any sense. You can sell a sword and not buy a piece of bread that heals 20% of your health... perhaps this is supposed to be how things are but I find myself totally ignoring merchants entirely. Furthermore, the crafting system has an incredibly steep learning curve, without any hint as to what makes sense to do or not, which is exacerbated by the nonsensical merchant system.

And as a post-post-script, I really hate that I will not be able to convince myself to spend money on Cyberpunk 2077.

After getting used to the controls and the combat system the game is just brilliant. Being some 40h into it now I must conclude that it's the richest RPG I've ever come across.
Every little side quest has a story to tell. Sometimes they are predictable of course, but they always come along with a unique charm and often brilliant humor.

It sets a whole new standard in terms of content.
If it weren't for the controls not being good for kb+mouse it'd get a straight 10/10

    Original:
Let's get straight to the point: the controls are just outright bad. I don't mean unpolished, I mean bad, as in: wtf?
Your typical day in the world of Witcher 3 has you maneuver through beautiful landscapes and towns that have lots of obstacles that are hard to evade because the controls are just unresponsive and just not fit for this level design.
Every movement appears to have some 200ms delay and it just feels butchery.

For instance, you see a chest inside a broken hut at a lake which is behind a beam. Now approach it several times until you finally get the E to open it just for it to vanish the next second you you can't anymore. Then you spend quite a few attempts running against that beam from different angles to actually get to it.

Then we come to combat - could be that I'm just bad but it feels a bit like they took the worst from Assassins Creed and Mount and Blade, combined it, and then didn't know what they actually wanted to do.
Fighting against a single opponent - which never happens - is easy, you can riposte the attack or block it, then strike back. Since you always fight multiple opponents though this just doesn't work because... I'm still not sure, but blocking just doesn't work.
What works best for me right now is jumping left and right, then bashing LMB to strike. That's no fun to play though.

Mounted combat is just atrocious but so OP that it's sorta worth it. Now the genius thing they did was adding a horse fear bar so you can't just walk up to something, bash it, and it dies - your horse doesn't like that so you have to charge, and then hitting something is really hard.

Town life is just really dull, mainly because of the system they use where they spawn X amount of townsfolk based on your settings. At least there could be some funny standard lines like in TES 3-5 that are memorable, making townsfolk more believable.
In this case they're just zombies.

    Now to the positive part:
The game feels immersive, the graphics are great, I like the crafting system, the characters, the card mini game, all that is great and I want to play more, run around the map doing sidequests, typical RPG stuff.

    Bottom line
I like it and I'm willing to try to get better with combat and what not but it just makes no sense to me how they could think that this was a good combat system.

I hope they'll pump out a patch making KB+Mouse controls more responsive, rumor has it that with a controller it works well. Still, my colleague reported that he had the same problem with that beam at that hut.

Самая скучная игра. Механика боя: перекаты. 2015год это провал. Надеюсь киберпанк не подкачает

This is basically the best game that has ever been made. The graphics are gorgeous, the combat system is great and demanding, the story, all the main and side quests are just incredible, there is really NOTHING wrong with The Witcher 3. Wild Hunt is a perfect mix of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 and it fully deserves the GOTY award for 2015.

We've been waiting long, long time for an RPG like this. This game contains perfect setting, world seems to be alive and every single thing is in a right place. Game world is just enormous, and will provide many, many hours of gaming. Characters are very detailed, different locations looks just so good.

Nice graphics. The gameplay is repetitive and Boring as hell. All you do go to A get this , then go back to B get that... Even the music is boring and makes you sleep.
Character movement and combat is very bad.
    Absolutely overrated.

Boring, repetitive, clunky, unwieldy, these are just a few words to describe 'The Witcher 3'. There is no debate that The Witcher 3 is improved from the other two games in the franchise, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't suffer from it's fair share of issues.

From it's clunky movement, janky quest tracking, to it's boring story, the repetitive quests, there just isn't a whole lot

Universal acclaim for this game is something I will NEVER understand. I suspect that most who give this game a positive review are casual gamers unfamiliar with what a true RPG is, or simply it's a matter of being caught up by the incredible aesthetics, which the Witcher 3 has in spades.

It is a gorgeous looking game, at least on a high-end PC. Another positive is the story. It's heart-touching at times.

    BUT...

The Witcher 3 suffers from serious faults.

The role-playing is shallow (and sometimes non-existent, like when Geralt is forced to break his moral code). Sometimes, decisions are wrongly reflected and other times, not reflected at all. Most of the game is filler, meaning the majority of playing-time is consumed side-quests that have no impact at all on the main story or even Geralt. Worse, however, is that the side-quests use the same formula. Trust me when I say that once you've done one side-quest, you have pretty much done them all.

The game also lacks replayability. The ultimate end is determined by a handful of decisions that come in short order following the Battle at Kaer Morhen. Simplistic, to say the least, but the true offense is that none of the decisions you make leading up to Kaer Morhen dictate any real change with that main battle or modify how the world reacts and treats Geralt. The game is always the same.

Other faults include crappy, oh-so-crappy game mechanics. Not that fluidity is required when fighting, mind you. This is perhaps the easiest game I've ever played. Even on the so-called "Death March", it's a walk in the park.

Do yourself a favor. If you're looking for that all too rarity of a game, meaning a cRPG set in an open world, check out Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It's not nearly as dumbed down and the decisions you make actually determine how the game reacts to you.

But better yet, go old school if you want a real cRPG experience. Check out Pillars of Eternity or the Baldur's Gate series, the last of which has been the king of all role-playing games since 2000.

Play the Witcher 3 if you don't want to think, if you don't wish to be challenged, and all you want to do is ride around on the most irritating horse in the world while perusing the lovely scenery. If you want an action game with considerable role-playing options, something that's intended for thinking adults, look at Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Witcher 3 isn't even the best in its own series.

The game is awesome! From the start there is so much to do. Animations for everything have been improved drastically and the combat feels more fluid than witcher 2. The story is great as always, every little sidequest has a story behind it no fetch quest level stuff.

Monster hunting is great, you feel like the witcher, all monsters have specific weaknesses like certain bombs, oils and spells that you can exploit and really help if you are playing on the challenging difficulty levels. Combat is reward, dodge, parry, roll out of the way using spells well, etc. Safe to say that the roll spam from witcher 2 is not as bad and you can use spells out of roll instead of pausing for a few seconds.

Now the big controversy. How is graphics and performance?
Its sort of hard to tell if the game has been downgraded or not. It seems like visuals vary based on day time, some areas don't look that good while others look absolutely gorgeous especially during sunsets. The sandy areas seem to look less good for some reason, i think its because of the pastelly type art style.
Overall the graphics are pretty good and the slight worse looking areas can be forgiven because how great the gameplay is.

Performance varies. The game is really demanding but its open world with lots of npc density and lots of effects everywhere. I am using a gtx 780 and get around 45-60 fps on high settings. Ultra settings cannot be reached (only 30fps) but I don't notice much difference between high and ultra, besides shadow quality and a bit more npc's.

Keyboard and mouse controls are ok but I suggest rebinding some to different keys, I for example use dodge and targetting on my two thumb keys on mouse instead of alt and z respectively.

So overall I will take away a point for the graphics/performance being not as good as everyone hoped.

TLDR: the gameplay is intact, controls are good, story is good, sidequests are non fetch quests, performance is ok for some, not great for others, graphics are good at times other areas a little disappointing but not enough to deter from gameplay.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
