For newcomers, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series is an easy purchase, since you're getting every game in the series at an excellent discount. If you've experienced the game before, the proposition of going back is dependent on whether you want to experience the game again with better graphics and fewer bugs. If you're a super fan, the abundance of extras will be tempting enough to warrant the double-dip. No matter your stance, the collection still holds up, and this is a lasting example of what made Telltale stand out in the first place.

This is definitely worth the price! Not only do you get 4 seasons fully remastered, but they also come with bonus content such as behind the scenes, concept art, music, etc! Now THIS is how you are supposed to remaster a game!

As for the story itself, my most favorite seasons were 1 and 2. Both have such interesting characters and well written scenarios and choices. Season 3 is probably the worst due to a lack of creativity, while Season 4 serves as a wonderful way of concluding Clementine's story.

TWD New Frontier & Michonne are obvious weak points for me, but S1 is really great and even S2 is solid imo. It's when they try to get you away from Clementine that the game begins to lose its luster for me. I was very worried going into the Final Season that it was gonna be a letdown but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really solid game. There are a few new things about it that bothered me, but overall? I'd argue it's up there with S1 in terms of quality, and that's a massive compliment. It's not as good as S1, but it was almost equally enjoyable to play through for me. Almost. Was a pretty great ending to a great series and a couple of great characters that you actually end up caring about a ton.

Playing all the seasons and episodes separately has been tedious and exhausting from the start. But as far as the story is concerned, the series as a whole is unfortunately a failure. While the first two seasons were a great game, it becomes a mediocre series in the sequels because of the developer's nonsense. One of the best examples of how a good game series can be ruined in the hands of the wrong developers. They not only ruined their company's reputation, but also deprived a great series of a good finale with their money concerns. Expand

I loved the first season. i do not care that the choices proved to be an illusion in the end (to a great extent at least). you did not knowI loved the first season. i do not care that the choices proved to be an illusion in the end (to a great extent at least). you did not know that back in the day, and the gameplay thus was very tense in all episodes. Yet still, the game's main appeal was the heavy emotional investment you made for its characters. That was where the game was extremely successful, in making us all care extremely for the fates of clementine, kenny, duck, lee's etc. this i could also acknowledge to a great extent for seasons 2 and 4 (the final season), though the main story of these was definitely weaker than season 1. Season 3 was on all aspects by far the worse, for it deviated from the characters you had come to love and care for.

But I digress. There are TWO reasons to buy this game. The first reason, and especially if you re a newcomer, is that you can have the whole series in one neat package with upgraded graphics, in the same style as the final season. HOWEVER, the games are still as buggy as they used to be. There were no significant updates made here, or there were definitely not enough; and the graphics updates do NOT fit well with the old-generation of graphics of the earlier seasons, making them look actually WORSE than they used to. Maybe i m biased and have memories of the old graphics and that bothers me. Perhaps, dunno. But i do not think so after what I saw. For example, the eyes of Lee are very pale and murky in season 1, without focus. and the black effects often make scenes too weird in terms of shadows and lightning. But most importantly, the graphics become pixelated a lot in certain angles, in a very highlighted way unfortunately. You notice this all the time and it looks pretty bad. You see, these type of artistic/comiclike graphics were made only for season 4, and this shows extremely in early seasons, how out of place these "enhancements" are. Therefore, the graphics being updated is not that true. It is not, for example, like the massive graphics update of other remastered games of the past, such as Fable Anniversary (which had essentially a new graphics engine), or perhaps beamdog D&D games. The old seasons look worse than they used, and i really believe that. So this reason imo is unfounded to buy definitive series.

Now, also included, are the michone episodes... terrible and bland story/game, completely unjustified to be included with the other 4 seasons of lee and clementine, even if they are extra content for your money; and a great lot dev content, such as commentary tracks and art galleries. Thus, we arrive at the second reason to buy the game (for this game is also pretty expensive, due to all this added collection-enthusiast type of content, and it being essentially 5 games in one). The second reason is to buy it if you are already very big fan of the series and telltale, and/or want to support the people that created telltale games. i see this game as the final product of telltale creators/developers, to give something final to their fans, but also to have a job these past months of 2019. i will not accuse them of making just a cheap cash-grab. These people were so suddenly left without a job, and with the series going into limbo for a few months in late 2018, fans were left with great uncertainty in terms of if the series would ever actually end. The closing of telltale was not their fault. Yet they stuck through with finishing up season 4 more than adequately, and provided us with pretty satisfying conclusion (yes, it was fine, dont whine). So if you are a very big fan of telltale games and want to support their developpers, you can buy this definitive series.

But otherwise, if you ve played walking dead in the past and your feelings for it were like "its ok, nice, fine, whatever" etc, then it is definitely not worth buying it. You can always play/buy the seasons independently (i think), and that would be better for your gaming experience imo (due to the graphics) and your wallet.

    RIP telltale
