    At first I was rolling my eyes at a blatant rip off of other fantastic games, but by the end I realized this is a great game in its own right.

    The Turing Test provides interesting story and characters, but the puzzles are a bit too monotonous and easy. Still, this science-fiction tale is worth discovering, and the dialogue is well-written.

    The Turing Test puzzle platformer is quite entertaining mix of genre ideas. It can also offer a philosophical subtext. Due to not-so-original puzzle mechanics or innovative environment the game stays behind the genre competitors.

    I don’t want to disparage The Turing Test too much. It suffers by nature of comparisons with other similar games, but perhaps unfairly. With its lightweight puzzles and plot, The Turing Test is one of those “Great-For-An-Afternoon” games, the ones that scratch a specific itch and go down easy. In this case, it’s the “I need something like Portal, but I’ve already played Portal” itch.

    The Turing Test can be quite accurately described as Portal meets Soma, exploring similar ideas of AI and selfhood. The trouble is, I suppose, that both those games did each aspect better.

    Its mechanics are solid but largely unoriginal, and its themes and world-building are genuinely great. And while it never reaches the originality and heights of its inspirations, it still manages to deliver an interesting world with one heck of a twist.

    If you’re willing to accept a game which is slightly rough around the edges, and will remind you of Portal at every turn without actually being Portal, then The Turing Test could be for you. There’s a lot here to like: a philosophical dialogue about ethics, transhumanism and the singularity, in conjunction with occasionally brilliant design.

    The Turing Test is a nice puzzle/adventure game that revolves around unoriginal puzzles and a very interesting narrative. The whole experience can feel a little drab unless the player both really enjoys this kind of “portal-esque” gameplay and loves a good sci-fi story.

    This interesting FPP puzzle game borrows a lot from Valve's Portal but doesn't surpass it in any way. The puzzles are interesting but repetitive and after a while the gameplay becomes a bit boring. The technical side could also be better but if you like such games, The Turing Test could be a nice surprise for you. The story added on top of the puzzles is definitely worth your time.

    More than anything, I’m delighted that it’s tried so damned hard to be more interesting, more involved, more intelligent. That it falls short is a shame, but that it reaches higher than most is to be lauded. Gorgeous-looking, exquisite-sounding, and ambitious in its desire to be interesting, there’s a lot to congratulate. That the experience is punctuated by tumidity in its writing and puzzle design is the issue.

That is certainly not a bad thing though, as the result is a puzzler with interesting gameplay mechanics and an engaging storyline (albeit with some loose ends left to the imagination).

    The game could have beem a bit more challenging in my opinion, however, as the different puzzles (with a few exceptions) rarely took more than a few minutes to solve. Even some of the later ones seemed a bit rushed and too easy to solve, but again, it could just be me. There were also some audio logs which were barely audible (subtitles don't show up for the logs either for some reason) and some odd spelling/grammatical mistakes in the texts here and there, but that's just nitpicking.

Furthermore, there is nothing in here that games like "Portal" and "The Talos Principles" haven't done better a few years prior. I feel the name of the game is misleading, in which it seems to imply that the game mechanics are cleverly designed as to have the player experience an intelligent set of 'Man" vs "Machines" differentiation tests while in reality the game consists of a series of relatively easy yet slightly convoluted puzzles, that are fundamentally uninspiring and repetitive. This is not a bad game, it's just a monotonous game, a descent pass-time, that is hard to recommend above and beyond far superior games in the genre,… Full Review »
