Sims 4 is already infamous for being devoid of gameplay at launch and for an insidious cashgrab payment model, so naturally the Sims team and EA decided to release a $20 ad for a new section of Disneyland that's also completely empty of gameplay outside of pointing and clicking on objects and entering 2 buildings (the rest are shells/non-enterable)

What's worse is that this comes on the heels of the Sims team being under fire from fans for not having adequate dark skintones even 6 years after release, and after John Boyega was interviewed detailing the racism within the production of the sequel SW trilogy and how he was pushed out of the leading male role. And what did the Sims do after this? They released a pack that advertised the characters from the sequel trilogy... but only the white ones, Rey & Kylo!

Now we have a collab between 2 franchises famous for giving the middle finger towards black fans, that really only serves to give the white girls their fave Star Wars angry space-Nazi boyfriend as a Sim to add to their families. Not only that but in true Sims 4 fashion, it is completely devoid of deeper-than-surface-level gameplay and only provides some set dressing, some build objects, and new clothes just like every other damn pack in the Sims 4.

The only positive is that it seems that the fanbase is really starting to realize that enough is enough with this garbage treatment from the dev team, it's insulting, and we deserve better from the life simulation genre.

While the lots are very beautiful made, the gameplay is way to repetitive since your locations are limited here. I don’t like that the game pack is crowd specific.

It was very bold of EA and Maxis to classify The Sims 4 Star Wars : Journey to Batuu as a 'Game Pack', which according to the established nomenclature is a Sims 4 DLC that is supposed to add new gameplay to the base game. The one thing that this DLC lacks the most is gameplay. There is a single linear questline completely little in terms of depth or replay value and doesn't add any new mechanics to the core game.

The aforementioned questline is broken into smaller tasks of 'go here, click that'. The promised 'length' of the experience comes from the frustration of trying to figure out which tiny little object you need to click on in the graphically detailed but hollow and static shell of a world. You'll spend considerable time trying to find a certain type of little terminal in a sea of similarly styled objects.

A big part of the Sims franchise is building on 'lots', but the lots available in this game pack cannot be modified (not without cheats anyway), and there are no empty lots to get creative.

The Sims 4 also has a very distinct art style, that usually all pieces of clothing and accessories as well as all objects and pieces of furniture adhere to. There have been 20 or so DLCs so far that pretty much all follow this art style. But some items in Journey to Batuu just do not mesh well at all with the art style at all and stick out like a sore thumb. A helmet, in particular, that is on offer as a CAS (Create A Sim) item looks like something an amateur custom content creater would make rather than something developed by the original developers. This is very immersion breaking and is the prime reason I've had to uninstall this pack after completing the questline.

There are no side quests or additional content to speak of. There is the ability to initiate lightsaber battle with other NPCs, but that too is just a reskin of an existing sword fighting interaction in the game and has no meaningful consequences to it.

All in all, The Sims 4 Star Wars : Journey to Batuu is nothing more than an advertisement for the Disney theme park and nobody should be paying money just to see an ad. Other than being a somewhat pretty to look at but mostly non-interactable 3D replica of the theme park, it has no redeeming qualities to justify spending money on it.

The pack have cool elements, but not for a main series pack, if Maxis released it as spin off it will make more sense, and won't make the community furious. The pack arrived on the wrong time, so much things players are willing for years and maxis wont does anything, some things is being wanted since the release of the game. this pack is a frustation for a Simmer

Lazy game design and an obvious cash grab. The soulless Sims 4 is only leading the way for an even worst Sims' experience in 5.

The game pack is really beautiful and I really enjoyed the having a droid part. But that's all. I was hoping for some occult sims like Sith or Jedi, or at least the possibility to be a force user. I mean, adding the force to the game shouldn't be to much to ask in a Star Wars game pack. I was also hoping for a separate skill to wield a light saber, and not just use it based on your fitness skill.

Expansion uneeded. EA ignore it's players. Journey to Batuu doesn't add anything interesting to the gameplay. Simply boring.

Biggest disappointment for the Sims franchise. I wouldn’t even add this to my collection if it was in sale, Oh wait, this pack is ALREADY IN SALE HAHA, I will NOT buying it. I love the Sims, I hate this Pack.

It’s upside down!

The “professional” reviews dare to rate this on average of 7-8/10??? Based on what? Great games get these ratings. This was a money grabbing release with zero replayability one you’re done. Majority of Simmers do not care about Star Wars and the devs completely refuse to fix what’s wrong with the Sims 4.

Do not buy this. Show them you do not approve of this trash.

It's not that bad, but it's not good as well. EA has a Star Wars license, so I'm not surprised they've released this extension, but I'm not sure if that was a good idea. The advantages are droids and lightsabers, and the downsides are that you'll rather send a sim to Batuu once and it won't come back there again, because there won't be any reason why (as in the case of Selvadorada) andIt's not that bad, but it's not good as well. I hate THE SIMS 4.
How long will THE SIMS 4 run the money making business?

Rather, add a sex life, pregnancy and birth system.

Journey To Batuu was an amazing experience. I thought it was going to be bad, since we didn't want it as a first plan of pack, but I'm surprised. Feeling generous, giving two points. The game pack really missed the mark on a couple
Of fronts, contributing to Simmers ranking this game pack as abysmally as it is. Yes Batuu the world looks lovely and details will immerse you... until you try to interact with the world in any way. The pack only focuses on missions. Nice to complete missions for either the rebels or the first order, but

Yes Batuu the world looks lovely and details will immerse you... until you try to interact with the world in any way. The pack only focuses on missions. Nice to complete missions for either the rebels or the first order, but your choices on Batuu have no meaning back at “home worlds.”. The droids are useable on Batuu for missions, but back home they are basically beeping radios. There is no force. Lightsabers are just for fun to “duel” but basically are meaningless. I don’t mind that the aliens are all just masked Sims, and I’m happy that they managed to keep. Study aliens and NOC townies separated but there are no lots to build on. Huge missed opportunity, was to have buildable lots so simmers could build a Batuu/ Star Wars themed bar, restaurant, spa, museum, pool or etc type of venue that would keep players visiting and coming back to Batuu. Once you play a few missions, you are done with the pack. And frankly the missions aren’t THAT fun. They are ok. Only buy this pack if you love Star Wars and it’s on sale.

Not only did no one ask for this, the surveys they sent out asking for what expansions people wanted, place this at the bottom. This took resources away from things people actually wanted. Star wars is not a good fit for the sims. I cannot fathom the lack of judgment from the developers that went into making this expansion pack when there were so many other better ideas.

Well this pack is better than I believed it to be but however its so obvious that this expansion is a cash grab as EA are trying to milk the franchise as much as they can. The gameplay is fun the first time but after you've played through it once the gameplay becomes tedious and repetitive. The Sims has been ignoring players requests for years and its unacceptable. Painfully obvious cash-grab, absolutely nothing to do, and this pack placed near the bottom on a survey, so they knew we didn't want this but said "let's do it anyway". Don't buy this pack unless it's an extremely good deal, and by that I mean if the seller pays YOU to get it.

The world of Batuu is very polished, the environments are detailed, and there’s a story to play through, but there are also some issues that mar the experienced. You can’t edit lots without using codes, some missions are bugged (I couldn’t finish the evil storyline because of that!), and once you reach the pinnacle of your career, there’s not much left to do beside side missions. The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu is a great addition to the library, but it’s reaching a point where I’d like to see how far Maxis can push the Sims concept with a new iteration.
