First and foremost intended for fans of the Star Wars saga, The Sims 4: Journey to Batuu is a very decent game pack, which offers a solid experience, if not really interesting over time.

The Journey to Batuu expansion for The Sims 4 is basically a holiday trip to Disney Park's Galaxy's Edge area. It boasts a good selection of clothings, building blocks and accessories, and the Star Wars themed Batuu area to visit. The expansion is quite limited. Not many buildings can be entered, and any action outside the Batuu area is provided 'choose your adventure' style. Most importantly, it proves The Sims is not suitable for story driven gameplay.

Journey to Batuu is an enjoyable game pack for The Sims 4 and a worthwhile glimpse into the Star Wars universe, but it sadly lacks ambition when it comes to doing something new with the property. At times, it feels like a glorified tourist attraction, and the lukewarm narrative doesn’t pull you in enough to feel worthwhile. But for hardcore fans, this is possibly a journey worth taking for the price.

It was very bold of EA and Maxis to classify The Sims 4 : Journey to Batuu as a 'Game Pack', which according to the established nomenclatureIt was very bold of EA and Maxis to classify The Sims 4 : Journey to Batuu as a 'Game Pack', which according to the established nomenclature is a Sims 4 DLC that is supposed to add new gameplay to the base game. The one thing that this DLC lacks the most is gameplay. There is a single linear questline completely little in terms of depth or replay value and doesn't add any new mechanics to the core game.

The aforementioned questline is broken into smaller tasks of 'go here, click that'. The promised 'length' of the experience comes from the frustration of trying to figure out which tiny little object you need to click on in the graphically detailed but hollow and static shell of a world. You'll spend considerable time trying to find a certain type of little terminal in a sea of similarly styled objects.

A big part of the Sims franchise is building on 'lots', but the lots available in this game pack cannot be modified (not without cheats anyway), and there are no empty lots to get creative.

The Sims 4 also has a very distinct art style, that usually all pieces of clothing and accessories as well as all objects and pieces of furniture adhere to. There have been 20 or so DLCs so far that pretty much all follow this art style. But some items in Journey to Batuu just do not mesh well at all with the art style at all and stick out like a sore thumb. A helmet, in particular, that is on offer as a CAS (Create A Sim) item looks like something an amateur custom content creater would make rather than something developed by the original developers. This is very immersion breaking and is the prime reason I've had to uninstall this pack after completing the questline.

There are no side quests or additional content to speak of. There is the ability to initiate lightsaber battle with other NPCs, but that too is just a reskin of an existing sword fighting interaction in the game and has no meaningful consequences to it.

All in all, The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu is nothing more than an advertisement for the Disney theme park and nobody should be paying money just to see an ad. Other than being a somewhat pretty to look at but mostly non-interactable 3D replica of the theme park, it has no redeeming qualities to justify spending money on it.
