The world lies in ruins and with each passing day the light grows dimmer. Only you can offer the world a glimmer of hope.

As the last line of defense against the darkness, you will enlist in the ranks of the Light Brigade and journey into the Sunken World as many times as it takes. Pieced together from shattered memories, these procedurally-generated battlegrounds are filled with enemies lurking around every corner. You will be forced to strategically navigate through dense forests, frozen mountains, and forgotten graveyards with a steady rifle and light magic to keep the shadows at bay.

Favorably comparing a VR roguelike to 'In Death' is fairly high praise already, however The Light Brigade seems to do an even better job of enticing you back for more as you make successive attempts at conquering the dark forces that have removed light from the fantasy universe. The game's WWII-era weapons make for welcome and familiar additions while adding a measurable level of realism which manages to aid immersion far beyond what a plainer entry in the genre might. The game's color palette is a bit too muddy, making for not-so-awesome visual contrast, but that's small potatoes when looking at the bigger picture.

The overall presentation of the game and the core gameplay loop kept me engaged while I tried to unlock each class variety to try different tactics. With some minor quality of life improvements, The Light Brigade could be one of my favorite VR titles so far in 2023.

This is the best shooter I've played since Half Life: Alyx with enough roguelike mechanics to make each playthrough a unique experience. Tons of variety in the classes like rifles, magic, dual pistols, assault, and snipers-- each with their own pros and cons. Can't wait to see what the devs add in their future updates because this is already a winner. Expand
