Nayuta spends his days gazing up at the stars above his island home and wondering what lies beyond the horizon. Though people claim the sea they live on is flat and finite, Nayuta knows there must be more out there, just waiting to be discovered.

Occasionally, ruins and stars will fall from the sky over Nayuta's home, offering what seem to be glimpses of other worlds. While exploring one such ruin, he and his friends save a small, fairy-like girl by the name of Noi. She tells Nayuta that something very important has been stolen from her and asks for his help in retrieving it.

It's with this that Nayuta's journey begins - one which will take him far beyond the confines of his island to experience new worlds and extraordinary discoveries!

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails' PC version is another excellent PH3 conversion, and it is amazing on Steam Deck. It has fun gameplay, superb music, and feels great despite its age. This is an easy recommendation for Falcom fans.

Yes, The Legend of Nayuta is part of that prolific Nihon Falcom property where storylines can stretch on for hundreds of hours. But this accessible spin-off shirks tradition, having more in common with Falcom’s action-driven Ys and Zwei games. While it’s now eleven years old, few developers make action RPGs as satisfying as Boundless Trails.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is pure gaming comfort food. Its mix of action, platforming, and RPG is too pleasant to resist, especially accompanied by its fantastic soundtrack. It certainly shows its age, and especially its portable origins. But that aside, Nayuta’s tale captures an authentic spirit of classic RPGs that I found as charming as I did entertaining. I’m sure fans of Falcom’s work have this one pre-ordered already, but even if you aren’t in that fandom, give this one a look.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a fun action RPG whose portable origins shine through for better and worse. While definitely fun, its story and gameplay can feel a tad slight at times, especially as the game goes on. Still, fans of Falcom’s other titles will find a lot of what they love about the developer’s work here and should absolutely give The Legend of Nayuta a shot.

Even though there’s no hiding the PSP roots of this rather simplistic title, there is still a lot of fun to be had in its solid level design, satisfying sense of progression and great soundtrack.
