Jan 30, 2023The King's Dilemma: Chronicles manages to create a sense of place using a limited set of tools. The game does require quite a bit of reading but it rewards gamers with a deep narrative, a lot of artfully constructed events, and many complicated choices. The political simulation element is engaging and fun. If modding is possible it can deliver a great A Song of Ice and Fire experience. I do feel like the narrative is trying to juggle a few too many big ideas at the same time. The universe, which delivers a lot of names and concepts quickly, can be overwhelming. But immersion in King’s Dilemma: Chronicles will reveal a complex and intriguing narrative and plenty of tough choices. Be wary of anyone promising quick and painless immortality.

Feb 24, 2023The King’s Dilemma: Chronicles is a wonderfully adept video game adaption of the 2019 board game. Excellent writing, buttery presentation and with ethical dilemmas galore, it offers a huge amount of potential replayability. Aside from minor mechanical issues that don’t translate quite as smoothly and the fact this is for a niche audience, this is a realm well worth setting out to save or doom.

Feb 24, 2023The King’s Dilemma: Chronicles is an engaging narrative game with one of the better branching narratives in gaming. The story is well written and enjoyable to engage with, whether you want to be good, evil or somewhere in-between. Whilst the politics part of the gameplay feels underutilised, the dilemmas and intrigue will keep gamers playing, especially with so much replayability. If you think the game looks interesting, then you’ll most likely have a great time with it, especially with the price being so low.

Apr 10, 2023The King’s Dilemma is the closest I’ve come to a regal advisor simulator, a position that has always fascinated me… although to be honest, this is one of the most underserved niche genres out there. While I appreciate that players’ lives are never at risk as they might be if they were manipulating things in the Game of Thrones world, it’s not perfect — but it is a good start. One can only hope that it leads to even greater attempts in the future.

Apr 17, 2023I hoped to experience the feeling of ruling a fantasy kingdom. Instead, I got a confused, arbitrary simulator of moving pips on a scale. It’s well written, granted, and it certainly looks pretty, but its core mechanics just aren’t well thought out and implemented.
