InIn my opinion, skyrim is among the most remarkable open world games of the decade. The game provides a huge amount of creative content carefully produced over more than 5 years, and is certainly worth buying. Every aspect of this massive world is tailored to near perfection, and from deep valleys, to yawning, subterranean caves, to the shear mountain peaks, the game looks magnificent. In a game this large, there are going to be glitches, perhaps more so during the PC experience, but skyrim is just as immersive as any of the other TES games, if not more so. Even after hundreds of hours of play, i still found more quests and options, better even then the one before it. Perhaps even more enchanting than the actual game play was the achingly beautiful soundtrack that accompanied the quests. This and other sounds of skyrim, voices a noises, added a level of realism here-for unattained. Though the main quest line grew tiresome after a while, and was over before you knew it, there were many others to take its place, like the thieves guild quests, the companions quests, and the dark brotherhood quests, all of which take turns that keep you guessing. For me, however, the best part was seeing my character develop, to a warrior, mage, or thief. the game interface was, at times, clunky. when trying to change weapons rapidly, exiting to the menu took me out of the experience in an annoying way, and the favorite menu wasn't much of a help. However, the leveling system was excellent, and continued to give the rewards that were necessary to keep my interest. Whats more, you didn't have to make all your big choices at the beginning of the game; you could actively decide your characters path through your own play style and preference. I discovered early on that spells were not my forte, so i focused instead on leveling my archery abilities, and just didn't use spells. Skyrim grants more freedom than almost any other game, and if you have the money, spend it on Skyrim, because it is more than worth it. I don't want to give it a perfect 10, because there were some stale bits and bugs occasionally did interrupt game play, consider it a 9.5! Thank you for reading, don't hate, and have a nice day. This game is definitely a great game, hands down. I played this game both on PC and Xbox 360, but I enjoyed it so much more on the PC. I think I enjoyed it more on the PC, just because of Steams Workshop, and all the mods I installed into the game. I'm sure from other reviews you know, this game is an all around amazing RPG game. If you have the choice, between Xbox and PC, but it for PC.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is an epic game, and It's even a beautiful game. Technically is great, and It's so original. An outstanding RPG that grows on you fast, and that is, of course revolutionary. But, the friendly AI is not even necessary, because It is so confusing and kind of stupid. The best game I've ever played. If it wasn't for having to patch it before it was mostly playable i would have given it a 10. The graphics are awesome and the quests are very entertaining. I wish more games like this were made but its seems only Bethesda does it right. I have so many hours in this game and I still can't get enough of it.

Different from other RPGs, I find I don't have to "get in the mood" to play this game. I can pick it up, play it for 5 minutes or 5 hours and put it down and be completely satisfied. One of the best games I've played lately, it gets a solid 9.

However unlike most i can play on max settings without a single hiccup. Also many people don't seem to understand that you can change the difficulty. The default is adept. In my opinion killing 3 bandits master level difficulty is more difficult than getting a killstreak of 75 on call of duty (which i have done) against real people. But my point is these reviews were made before anyone other than testers truly played the game. My main point is, don't judge until you know the ins and outs of the game world, controls, and overall story. Thank you for your time. The main reason why this didn't get a 10 from me was because of the bugs. It was almost impossible for me to complete all but the most simple questlines without encountering one or several. A lesser reason, although one which I hear far more people complaining about, was the huge number of NPCs that were considered "important" and therefore could not be killed. There were many situations in which an annoying or outright evil NPC could not be killed, at least until a certain point in a questline. This may just be an instance of a larger problem, as there are a large number of points in the game where the player is forced into a single course of action, or an event is triggered regardless of how you attempt to avoid it. This was annoying, but did not prevent me from enjoying the game. Expand

I rate Skyrim 10 for everything except the technical aspects of the game. The story was very interesting but could of been longer, the gameplay mechanics were improved from Oblivion and I really applaud the immersive feeling you get from feeling like you are shooting an arrow or using magic for real. The environment is where Skyrim truly shines. Beautiful night sky's, lovely particle effects and amazing sound all come together to make you feel like you are truly in a cold icy desolate climate. I understand that one can dislike a game, but in all honesty, Skyrim is a great game. i'm trying to point out some flaws, but i find this to be a very hard task. You know why? Because Skyrim lets you play just like you want; how can one have a bad gaming experience in such a game? In fact the most annoying flaws the game have, in my opinion, are: the mouse movements and selections in the menus and some graphical glitches I read reviews where people say that graphics are bad. I don't know, i liked super mario but i'm not asking Skyrim to be 8-bits. I find the graphics to be good; could have they been better? Yes. Does this ruin my gaming experience? Not at all. The fighting system is dynamic and entertaining; finishing moves are usually cool, although, honestly, sometimes may be disturbing. Melee fighting is satisfying and pretty realistic; magic has been reworked since Oblivion and now it is much more easy to be used and entertaining, not to mention, useful. The storyline is acceptable, even if i still prefer the Morrowind one; the "guild" ones are possibly better then the main one: it is easy to actually feel part of the Companions or the Thieves Guild of Riften! One of the best features in the game, in my opinion, is the non-fixed class system. You're not asked to choose a class to play, but you're free to use whichever skill you prefer. The perk system could be better, but all in all it is good and flexible. I feel Skyrim not to have a well designed difficulty curve, since some lvl40 fights are way more easy then some lvl6 ones. This mainly is due to some fixed monster levels, that on the other hand make the game more realistic (will you be able to fight a giant when you hardly know how to wield a sword?). The world lives: npcs have a life, enemies will respawn (let's say, repopulating some locations), radiant quests can always be found. In the end, Skyrim lets you have a wonderful experience, only hardly ruined (if you really like the rpg gaming style) by some menu/graphic glitches. If you have enjoyed the previous Elder Scrolls games and you still don't have Skyrim, don't wait any more seconds and buy the game. For the rest of you, well, i'll give you some more days to find it in stores and buy it. You won't regret. Expand

I'm reviewing my 1.6 build of "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" (much improved version with far less bugs than the original one). As an introduction I'll say that I've been playing pc RPGs for years. I started playing in 1997, my first one was the mythical "Diablo" followed by "Baldur's Gate", "Neverwinter Nights" and so on...
As you can see, this review is not written by some inexperienced player with no knowledge about the genre... I'm rating it a 9 only because this game is excellent, not just because I like it.
This game has cursed me, I can no longer play another RPG without realizing that "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" simply kicks his ass.
Skyrim has a nearly unmatched graphic engine (not only for RPG standards), an unmatched world design (I've never seen such a massive detailed world, it's almost unlimited, gorgeous, wild and full of life. You can go anywhere inside the map...an Skyrim isn't exactly small), a well designed character development system (It was about time! At last you can combine whatever skills you want without any character limitations! You have plenty of USEFUL skills to develop, and I have never seen a better level-up interface, by the way). The overall design is simply superb: landscape, weapons, armors, buildings, characters, interfaces...
Every time you swing your sword, shoot your bow, block, etc. a counter will trigger allowing you to increase your experience in that specific skill, thus allowing you to master the skills you use most (you can also learn from people, as long as you have the coin). You can forge your own weapons, armor and jewelry in many different materials and styles (you can even mine those materials right from the rocks), also you can enchant any items you forge with an assorted range of spells, you can buy houses, horses, spell books, etc.
I'm telling all this only because I think it's worth noticing, I've never seen such depth in a pc RPG before...
and believe me, it's pretty easy to do each one of these things by using the interface.
Finally I want to talk about the general scheme and missions. This can be Skyrim's "Achilles heel".
This game HAS a main scheme that follows the steps of the "Dragonborn" (I don't want to spoil anything, so this is all I'm going to say about it), there is also a secondary scheme that makes you pick a side in Skyrim's Civil War (Imperials vs. Stormcloaks). Aside from these two main schemes, there are hundreds of missions and tasks across the towns and cities of Skyrim, you'll be pretty busy almost all the time, don't worry. I said that this was some kind of "Achilles heel" because nothing compels you to finish your missions, and there is almost no hierarchy between them, you could say that you are free to explore the wilderness of Skyrim, you can play at your own pace almost without worrying about the missions. Some people like that, some others don't, it's up to you.
A real weak spot of the game is the difficulty level. Unless you set your game difficulty settings to "expert" or above, you won't find any real challenge during the game...you'll kill any foe without fearing for your chances of winning. Another "limitation" of the game (it's not big deal for me, but it is for some people) is the "simplicity" of design in hostile caves and fortresses. There is plenty of hostile caves/mines/fortresses in Skyrim and they are superbly detailed, the "problem" is that there is only ONE way to go, you can't get lost...and when you reach the end, there's almost always a shortcut that takes you directly to the entrance. Surely Bethesda studios did this in order to save time and to keep the pace of the game. Lastly, the combat system could be better (it's still far superior to any KOTOR/Neverwinter Nights/Dragon Age combat systems), I'd prefer some kind of "Witcher 2" combat, but nothing is ever perfect so I'm satisfied with Skyrim's combat.

I don't rate it a 10 because the game has various bugs (they've corrected many of them in 1.6 build, but there are still some issues to be fixed).

Anyways, this is the best and most detailed pc RPG I've ever played...and I fear it'll be for many years to come. Bethesda people have set the bar way too high, I think it'll be quite difficult for anyone to beat them.

The combat from previous games have been improved so much it made me feel like I was in true combat, every hit affects your enemy in a different way, staggers them or if their blocking you will staggered and fall back allowing you enemy to swing at you. The story is also more vast with 2 main quest lines to follow, one of them is for your Dragonborn roots, the other is for the freedom of Skyrim, these 2 story lines aren't the greatest but they are better than most on the market, but that doesn't even matter because it is everything else Skyrim is that does, the story is deep through the entire game, there are thousands of books you can read, different story lines that last for hours and give you more bite. The graphics also look fantastic, even without the HD texture pack, this game looks great throughout even though bad code early on did make this game quite laggy. With the addition of mods this game becomes the greatest there ever was for me. The quick travel is also another great addition but has been around for many years in the Elder Scrolls series, so it is nice not to have to run all over this huge map.

Needless to say, I was more than impressed by its graphics, gameplay, character customization, and the fact that, true to their advertisements, what you do in the game actually does have an impact on the storyline. Like most people, I dislike the weight limit thing, but you can easily get around that but making your companion pick up everything (when done this way rather than through trading, they have an unlimited storage capacity). The only other thing that really kind of bothered me was the way enemies level up when you do. I know this is to keep the game challenging, but it also means you can't really experiment. For example, if you increase your one-handed weapon, archery, and magic skills by 10 each, the enemies will level up as if you had specialized in one skill and had gotten it up by 30. Being balanced in this game is a disadvantage, so if you're reading this and haven't played yet, pick a class that offers high bonuses in one area (I went with a dark elf because they have a good balance between melee and magic, but I now sincerely wish I'd gone with either Nord (melee) or High Elf (magic)). I personally have never used crafting or blacksmithing to enhance or make weapons, although I hear it's a pain to level that up. I've also only experience a few bugs, only one that was major (a quest where a guy was supposed to follow you, but wouldn't, so every 10 seconds you had to talk to him so he'd start following you again) but in a game of this magnitude, I'd take a whole nest of bugs if it meant playing this game. Overall, 9/10, though that's just because I've never found a perfect game. This, however is indeed the best I've played. Expand

But there are only a half dozen actors and you will recognize them all immediately. --- Combat: 8 --- If you've played more than a few video games and don't hate FPS games, Skyrim plays very well. I wish other game makers could do this as well. That said, the enemy AI is stone stupid and easy to manipulate. Which is a big disappointment in a game like this. Even dragons quickly become easy to defeat. --- Fun Factor: 10 --- This is a very fun game. One of the most enjoyable RPG's since um Oblivion... --- Unmodded Overall: 8 --- This is my review of the unmodded version of Skyrim. The major points keeping it from being excellent are the VO and poor enemy AI. --- Modded overall: 10 --- Add in mods and you instantly turn every score up by at least one point. If you aren't modding Skyrim, you are missing out on one of the best RPG gaming experiences of all time. My suggestion, improve the AI, turn up the visual juice (if your PC can take it) download a new music pack and get a skill overhaul. If you do those things you will have an unparalleled gaming experience. --- Overall Overall: 9: -- In the end, making this game go from very good to amazing you have to mod it. So I choose the easy middle-ground. Though I really do need to reiterate that you should buy Skyrim and download some mods from the Skyrim Nexus site it for a 10 star gaming experience. Expand

The game is not perfect, by any means. Glitches and bugs exist all over the longer you play it. However, the graphical design of the game is amazing, especially in HD. The game play mechanics have improved greatly over it's predecessor, and the quests seem to be more engaging. That's enough to invest more than 200 hours sitting and playing on your sofa.

By far one of the better RPG's I have played, the world is immersive and really beautifully done.
I will say that from an art perspective landscape wise I thought it was beautiful but after some heated debates I would have to say that the armor is mostly lacking with the exception of two sets.

With nice visuals and movement, one thing i didn't like was the fact that one is unable to fast-travel without crossing a "certain" area before unlocking the destination for fast-travel. Therefore, a lot of walking is done in the earlier missions.
For a year 2011 game, this has really done a good job and it is recommended for players who enjoy RPGs. (Role Playing Games)

As for the DLCs, there is currently quite some of it, and well worth the price if you liked the game. But i personally doesn't have that much of a patience to complete the whole game, as well as the time needed.

Lastly, don't forget that not many games have "endless" replay-a-bility after completing it. Skyrim provides at least a few hundred hours worth of gameplay and missions, enough to keep you engaged for a really long time if you are really liking the game of course.

Each DLC is worth every single cent, because it expands the gameplay A LOT, and by A LOT, take my word, I mean several hours more for you to waste on this game. Even though it has the bugs you can expect in a game developed by Bethesda and yes, there are lots of bugs and glitches you DON'T EVEN CARE because THE GAME IS SO AWESOME you'll not be paying attention to the bugs.

A giant map, literally thousands of quests to do, skills to master, monsters to kill, books to read, dragons to slay, spells to learn, and places to explore, from dungeons to towns, a lot of replayability believe me, you won't finish this game with only one character, you will be creating several to choose every single side possible in each conflict and making each choice you can to learn the whole story a magnificent lore, and the amount of mods available, make this game along with its DLCs and expansions one of the BEST GAMES EVER and a MUST BUY, from casual to hardcore gamers.

With it's simple yet immersive presentation combined with brand new engine (thankfully it doesn't have bugs and huge errors) The Elder Scrolls Skyrim as definitely a major hit in 2011, with basic sword combat with some really basic attacks but I think this was done to give the player his own style in fighting and creating his own combos in combat, Magic... though I haven't played or started a magic type character that much, it has and shows some good stuff that makes the character develop his own skills in magic whether it's Destruction or some other magic classes like Restoration. Character creation is also unique in it's own way... though, in some cases the NPCs are kindof a rushed but this only happens if like one NPC has the same hair or facial hair (sometimes both). But really now, it's not like you're going to look at and remember every single face of an NPC and ask yourself "Wait, this one looks like that other guy from that other Place." Chances of this happening are pretty slim. Also to add this game is fully loaded with side quests, POIs, challenges and even fun Easter Eggs that are sure fun to poke around with when you're done with the main quests.

My only real complaints are that the map provided in the game is really quite insufficient and you'll find yourself downloading yourself an improved map from the nexus mod site real fast. Also the UI is designed for a gamepad so if you are trying to use the keyboard which I do not recommend with this game you will have a heck of a time navigating the menus and inventories. So if you use keyboard you'll also want to download an improved UI. But really this issue is easily resolved just by plugging your 360 controller into your computer instead of trying to be a "keyboard elitist." And the game plays much smoother in doing so. The graphics have some of the best optimization that I have ever seen.... and most computers that are from 2008 or newer should be able to run the game on max settings and get a result that is better graphics at higher frame rates than one would expect. Gameplay takes a while to get used to, especially if you did not play Oblivion. Combat highly depends on what weapon you are using. You probably want to try some melee or magic attacks before anything else. The sound effects are great, as is the music - however I do tend to turn music off in games after a while. I have run into a few bugs, mainly things like objects rolling around on their own.... but I have not seen anything even close to "game breaking."

Overall this is one of the few games that deserves its high appraisal from the paid reviewers. I feel that after playing the game many of the 0's and 1's for ratings are falsified, most likely by people who never even played the game. I say this because of the fact that the first few negative reviews I even saw all had lies in them.... as when I came across where said cons were supposed to be in the game they weren't there at all.

I don’t know about that as I can’t say I’ve ever played a Bethesda title I considered broken. What I will say is that users in the Steam Workshop have come up with some truly incredible mods. Deducting a point from Bethesda is one way to look at it but I say giving people the freedom to use Steam Workshop gives them a point right back. The fact that it is a game so many people feel compelled to create so many mods for speaks volumes. Bethesda must be doing something right.

One of these days I need to actually go back and finish it…

    - Game offers alot of freedom with your choises and tasks you can do so many things without behind restricted at all (But don't expect the guards to leave you alone if you start a mass murder).
    - A good variety of enemies, quests and items. It's important to point out that you can add more with mods!
    - Amazing graphics and details that will make you drool!
    Weak points:
    - A weak and short "main storyline", although there are many more that you can take part in. The opening is quite slow and characters aren't very rememerable. As soon as the tutorial ends though, you are free to do what ever you what.
    - You will spend alot of time running from shop to shop to sell all your loot.
    - Bugs, crashes and glitches. Very annoying at times.
    - A pretty bad AI. Followers do a terrible job of sticking around and helping. The enemy AI can be absolutly retarded at some times: Randomly runing away, ignoring you completly, not seeing you when you clearly should have been seen or just being plain stupid ("I just got shot in the head a minute ago, but I guess there is nothing there").
    - Gets repatative after a while: same enemies (only stronger), same quests (Go there, kill that/get that).
    - Mediocre voice acting: many characters sound alike, and their lines can be repatative at times.

This is no doubt, absolutely the best game I've ever played. The visuals look beautiful, the scale of the world, the number of quests, which is MILLIONS. There is absolutely no way to stop playing this masterpiece. And with the two additional DLCs, there is absolutely NO WAY you'll sleep at all! However, there are a lot of bugs, and glitches, so I'm rating it a nine. I wish I could rate it a 10.

You can't get from point A to point B without battling a dragon, exploring a dungeon, robbing some farmers and "nosying" around structures. The game is by far the best RPG to date, and also a close competitor to best GAME ever. To start of, character customization. Starting the game your confronted with a menu allowing you to choose a species and then customise it to insane depths. Each species has unique special ability's and skills. After slashing, bombarding or shooting your way through the first dungeon, you reach the beautiful outside world. The first thing it says to do is to go to Riverwood, and have a great time getting there to! On my first run to Riverwood, I found myself conquering bandits, chatting to a friendly hunter, gathering flowers and chasing deer. And that's just about a ten min journey! No game has done "Road Trips" as spectacular as Skyrim has. I could go on but I'll just name some key points. Each hold and character has a different story to tell or forget, and new things to explore. Whether its halting invasions and defeating the drauger or assassinating thanes and stealing from houses, you'll never run out of stuff to do. Guaranteed! Expand

The limitation about the game is the problem, is that the game needs more features or the gamers will say it's boring. The game needs real life situations in everyday. The updates and the DLC's was astonishing, but they also need to change more features like Update 1.5. The team needs to be active on the series and put more and more features so the players will not get bored easily.

The graphics are definitely better than that of Oblivion. Characters look much prettier, too. You still have enormous things to explore, and never bored about exploring. The only problem for me is that the stories are not so attracting, or consistent. Like there should be more connections among those side-stories. Anyway, it's really a fantastic time-killer though.

Yes I'm nitpicking, but these and a few others make you lose the immersion that is almost there in this game. Fortunately there are a ton of great mods that fix some of these issues and make the game more enjoyable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first Elder Scrolls game I have ever played. Originally I had played it on Xbox, but when my ex and I split, (Xbox was his) I got the game for PC. At first it was kind of a pain to learn the controls, but I went out and got myself a game controller for the PC, and it was all gravy after that. My PC is not one of those super powerful PCs, I have a quad core processor and an AMD graphics card, yet I can play on high settings, with a serious collection of mods, and DLC's added. It crashed one time due to a mod not being compatible with another mod I already had, but other then that it works amazingly well. There are a ton of quests, and stories within the plot. Would have been nice if they put more voice actors, and less repetitive quotes from NPC's. I often want to beat up the guards with their "arrow in the knee" thing over and over and over. Yep. Also, it would have been neat to see a little more complex interactions between mates or followers with the main character. My husband- he is really boring, like a piece of furniture that hands me coins or food every so often. I mean, they should at least fight over money, hold hands, make babies, you know? Though he wanted to marry after I beat him up in a brawl, that was pretty amusing. The Hearthfire add on allows adoption, however. Overall, I really like the game, and I am looking forward to seeing what the next game will be like. Expand

My first RPG experience. Let's say I started driving a Roll's Royce from the beginning

This is in my top 3 games on Steam in terms of hours played. I'm not giving it a 10, because the last point goes to the community. Skyrim + mods is one of the best gaming experience I had. The universe is full of dragons, nice scenery''s, a good main story, and lots of options to develop your character.

The main negative point of the game is the lack of choice in the story line, and the repetitive quests (go there, kill that, come back). I recommend adding the "true compass" mod + the "no fast travel" mod to counter this negative point. Indeed, you are now on your own, with your eventually horse, running across Skyrim trying not to die before you reach the next mission, using the road signs because your compass only show North, South, East and West, and eventually using your map if you're lost.

If you're lazy and you want that fast travel, this is still a very fun game, even without the DLC's, you can sidetrack a lot, discover some strange places, and craft the best weapons.

The shout system is your reason to kill dragons, and the combat with dragons are quite epic. If you're lucky, you might even fight 2 at once and feel like Jesus on a raptor

I suggest you play this on Legendary, otherwise it gets boring by the end, and it is much more realistic and enjoyable in the long term.

Conclusion : Buy it, install 100 mods on it to make it better, and play for hours !

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
