Hello! Ok this game has been out for a while now and i don't even know how i flicked to this page to read some past reviews of it, but after doing so i was so enraged i had to write my own.

First of all, let me make it abundantly clear, anyone who hasn't scored this game at least a 9/10 is either using a very badly made PC or they are regular users of grade A narcotics. That is all there is to it. On a good spec machine, the graphics are BREATHTAKING, especially some of the outdoor vistas. The various locations used throughout the game are all very atmospheric and the feeling of being immersed is complete.

Second of all, the level of detail and programming that has gone into this game puts any other software developer to shame. Bethesda game studios is one of the last great programming groups, and you only have to see the depth of this game and level of thought that has gone into it to see why. Its not just a game, this level of polish and detail only comes from a labour of love. You can tell the developers really wanted to make this game. Its better than any 10 other games currently out on the market, and whether that is a testament to the quality of Skyrim, or the degraded state of the game industry, i can't call it.

The fact remains, this game is awesome. If for some unknown reason you haven't ever played it yet, do so now and say goodbye to a good few joyful weeks.

Last point. I hear criticisms. Ok, when Skyrim was first released it did have some bad bugs and crashes. However that just shows how enormous the game is in my eyes, and that you can't hope to games test every bug out of a game so large. These bugs were very quickly fixed with a number of patches and the game is now bug free. The other criticism i hear is the minimum number of voice actors that were used.................really? You would mark and otherwise stupendous game down because they didnt use enough different voice actors??? Laughable. Some people just don't get it.

Even if you don't like this game because of the setting or the genre, anyone who tries to mark it down because they don't like it is simply refusing to acknowledge that its a great game. They personally just don't like it. I am sick of hearing references to Oblivion and Morrowind, people saying they were better. No they weren't. They were different, not better. Yes Morrowind was bigger, but it also had various faults that people seem to overlook constantly. Like Skyrim, when it was released it was also riddled with bugs. People are just never happy. I remember people used to slate Oblivion, saying Morrowind was much better. Yet now, apparently Oblivion is the best thing since sliced bread?

Bottom line, this game is awesome. Fact.

There is no decision making just like in oblivion, terrible dialogue and linear boring quests and repeatable quests that were even worse, poor loot variety once again including recycled enchanted weapons from previous elder scrolls games. I expected so much more.. this was the biggest disappointment in gaming of 2011 for me bigger than the massive failure that was star wars the old republic. If your a hard core elder scrolls fan this game is a must. I still played the game for over 60 hours but then grew bored as opposed to my hundreds of hours spent in oblivion. I am an objective rpg fan and the elder scrolls series falls a little short for me with including Skyrim. This game is average at best not stellar. Expand

Graphics are good but nothing over the top... but who cares, really? This game is clearly not about graphics.

Soundtrack is good and climatic, gameplay is very enjoyable. This game is damn good.

Of course is has some minuses: the main storyline is short and it will never be the factor that keeps you playing. Characters are forgettable. There are some bugs here and there but patches are made short work from most of them.

And also... Mods support will make You play this game more... and more... and more.
TES V: Skyrim certainly worth having.

The plot in the game is set 200years after Oblivion, with a new story and timeline.

The game play is just awesome, and as the game is open-world, the gameplay doesn't feel even a bit linear and has an unforgettable experience.

The game has leveling up systems but very well developed, and contains only the most important things, without unnecessary stuff, and is very simple to use it, when you level up simply increase points in your stamina, magicka, or health, and then pick up a perk and increase it, depending on what you want your character to be.

The weapons are just awesome, you have all you want from an RPG, swords, spells, potions, shields, bows, and many others.

The clothes and armors are as well made too, and you can make your weapons stronger and give them magical attributes by using the alchemy, forges and many others.

The story of the game is again well made, when the Dragons return, and are having the leader an evil one, this just makes the game better and more enjoyable.

The quests are well implemented, and are generated in a dynamic way so it doesn't feel that the story is forced.

In the game play the dragon fights are very well implemented, and you have great finishing moves for each kill, doesn't matter is a dragon, human, zombie, and so on.

The physics again are impressive, and feel realistic.

And most important feature of the experience, the shouts. They can be either learned from Greybeards, from walls and others.

The soundtrack? THE SOUNDTRACK?! It's pure awesomeness, the Dragonborn theme the best song I've ever heard in a game, same with the others, Jeremy Soule is a soundtrack genius! Can't say a bad thing about it.

The models and textures again are well made, high resolution an detailed, same with the map props, the lightning and shaders are good, despite on certain object or settings the shadows are looking weird.

So after all this, Skyrim is a masterpiece and really one of the best games ever, which met the highest expectations, and even surpassed them.

One of the best games I have ever played and I've been playing for 30 years. The game is great and the user mods make it amazing. So detailed and so delicious! Yes, there are some odd bugs in the game and the main story line at the end (the dragon one) is kind of uneventful, but since I can't give it a rating of 99.9% I will throw them a bone for coming out with DLC's.

I'd give vanilla a 6 and modded skyrim a 9- hence why I leveled it out to an 8.

Vanilla Skyrim was a bit lacking in all categories. The stories (main, guilds, etc) were all shorter than I would have liked and expected, the environment was sparse (creatures/enemies etc), and the immersion wasn't up to par either (skyrim is supposed to be at war but there were no real military clashes).

The TES modding community has always been stellar and skyrim was no different. All but a few of my major complaints were resolved by the mod community.

Skyrim is worth a playthrough once as a vanilla game but the mods make it a great experience.

I don't understand, Did some writers resign from bethesda after oblivion? Skyrim doesn't have the same level of quests as Oblivion had. Most of the side missions and guild missions seemed generic to me. Dark Brotherhood used to be awesome (remember whodunnit from oblivion?) And it seems that the thieves guild has lost all honor. The addition of the civil war quests is a welcome but there is not much impact after you do them.

Despite all of this, skyrim is still a must buy. I just wished my character would have had a more substantial impact on the world

After sinking over 600 hours into this game I can safely say I got what I paid for.
The game is packed full of things to do and places to see, the in-game world is massive and full of secrets to find. It's easy to say your just going on for a few minuets but then finding yourself still playing after unintended hours.

The game is packed full of things to do and places to see, the in-game world is massive and full of secrets to find. It's easy to say your just going on for a few minuets but then finding yourself still playing after unintended hours.

The graphics, while not among the best of 2011 are still very strong and only help in immersing you into the world of Tamriel even more, from the snow covered shores to the dark caverns under the ground. The variety of things to see is rich as well whether that's waterfalls, mountains or old ruined forts. If you own the PC version of the game you can even improve the graphics further with the help of the brilliant modding community. I'd give the graphics a strong 9 out of 10

Now gameplay is something Bethesda have improved over the past Elder Scrolls titles from Morrowind to Oblivion and now given it a further upgrade in Skyrim. While It may not be the best combat system I've ever used it still gets the job done and serves up an interesting perk system to add to the experience, but I believe Bethesda have focused more on the exploring part of the game which I have no problem with, it offers something different to the so linear games we see dominating the market these days.

Continuing on gameplay, you can almost pick up and use anything in this game from buckets to tiny pieces of chalk, this is another great boost to immersion in this game but comes at the price of a few bugs here and there, despite this I'd still give it a solid 9 out of 10

The Soundtrack to this game is simply a masterpiece from the familiar Jeremy Soule (Guild Wars, Morrowind and Oblivion). From just strolling in the plains or fighting in one massive battle, the music is always keeping touch of what's happening on the screen. Jeremy Soule has truly outdone himself with these sweeping scores and easily gets a 10 out of 10 from me.

As for the game being worth the price tag, I couldn't recommend any game further more then Skyrim, no other game can come close to the 600 hours I spent (and still am spending) in this game and it could be a while before another does. 10 out of 10

The menus in this game do what there supposed to do and arrange the catergories of the game nicely, but can be a pain to go through if you have a full inventory, loading screens are also nicely thought out with facts about the lore and tips to enhance the experience, the downside being how long loading can be for consoles or PC's with many mods. 9 out of 10

The main story is interesting I didn't find it quiet as absorbing as Oblivion's but this is more then made up for in the other story lines, something Oblivion didn't for me. The Thieves guild quest line was outstanding and I really enjoyed it with it's many twists and turns, The Dark Brotherhood in similar fashion. The College of Winterhold was good but was far to short and left so many things unanswered, I was left wanting more, with The Companions seeming rather more bland then the rest but still a fun ride. 9 out of 10 here.

In my opinion Skyrim is the best Elder Scrolls game yet, improving on everything it's predecessors got wrong and putting them right.
While I doubt we will ever get a "Perfect Game" I believe TESV: Skyrim is the closest we may see for a while, I've loved my time in it and can't wait to see what Bethesda have to offer for TES6 so that's why I'm giving Skyrim a 10 out of 10

Unlike the excellent Fallout 3, there are no significant choices to be made in any of the quests you will undertake. Solutions to most everything will be to kill, and kill some more. There is so much exposition thrown at you that you will start to lose track of what's going on, and without any truly memorable set piece type quests to back them up, they remain nothing more than exposition. The world, though undeniably large, starts to blend together into an indistinguishable mish-mash of dungeons, forests, and towns. There are hundreds of NPCs, but just like the locations and quests, they are too many and too shallow. There are no branching dialogue trees; most characters will have 3 or 4 topics of conversation. Worst of all is hearing the same 10 or so voice actors spread across the hundreds of NPCs. The art is a mixed bag. The color palette is grey and drab, suitable for the Nordic environment, but it becomes an eyesore over time. There are some great looking environments, such as the dense forests and mountain vistas, however many areas look like they were hurriedly built, such as the northern coastline. The characters look as stiff as ever; both in their procedurally generated faces and their terrible animations... both Bethesda trademark. The music is uniformly excellent, though it can get repetitive hearing the same battle and town themes over and over. Don't get me wrong, there is fun to be had. Play the main quest line and a few of the faction quest lines, and you will get the best of what Skyrim has to offer. Delve any deeper and you will ultimately find a shallow experience devoid of any meaning. Expand

With it's simple yet immersive presentation combined with brand new engine (thankfully it doesn't have bugs and huge errors) The Elder Scrolls Skyrim as definitely a major hit in 2011, with basic sword combat with some really basic attacks but I think this was done to give the player his own style in fighting and creating his own combos in combat, Magic... though I haven't played or started a magic type character that much, it has and shows some good stuff that makes the character develop his own skills in magic whether it's Destruction or some other magic classes like Restoration. Character creation is also unique in it's own way... though, in some cases the NPCs are kindof a rushed but this only happens if like one NPC has the same hair or facial hair (sometimes both). But really now, it's not like you're going to look at and remember every single face of an NPC and ask yourself "Wait, this one looks like that other guy from that other Place." Chances of this happening are pretty slim. Also to add this game is fully loaded with side quests, POIs, challenges and even fun Easter Eggs that are sure fun to poke around with when you're done with the main quests.

Quest lines force you into crossing moral lines you might not want to cross but there is no alternate path. In general a fun fool around RPG but nothing serious.

What is the definition of a good game? The answer is: one that You can play all along and over and over. So this is Skyrim. I have played over 200 h and I am doing it still. I have created lots of characters and visited almost all locations on the map. If You like TES You will love this game, if You like RPG games, this is a title that will take lots of Your free time.

Sure, it's beautiful in the beginning but the game lacks creative design. A lot of potential but if the game would have had a better story, the game would improve enough for being called a RPG. Now it is a action free roaming sorta game. Bethesda's biggest mistake was the DLC's, the biggest money stealing DLC's ever. Dawnguard and Hearthfire should have been a part of the original Skyrim and Dragonborn was unfinished. Good game but still overrated. Expand

Even though the game has its drawbacks the story is quite poor, the quests often tedious and the voice acting sub par this game is still miles ahead of anything out there in terms of an open-world sandbox action RPG. Just the game world size and detail both exteriors and interiors earn this game a 10/10 in my book.

Each DLC is worth every single cent, because it expands the gameplay A LOT, and by A LOT, take my word, I mean several hours more for you to waste on this game. Even though it has the bugs you can expect in a game developed by Bethesda and yes, there are lots of bugs and glitches you DON'T EVEN CARE because THE GAME IS SO AWESOME you'll not be paying attention to the bugs.

A giant map, literally thousands of quests to do, skills to master, monsters to kill, books to read, dragons to slay, spells to learn, and places to explore, from dungeons to towns, a lot of replayability believe me, you won't finish this game with only one character, you will be creating several to choose every single side possible in each conflict and making each choice you can to learn the whole story a magnificent lore, and the amount of mods available, make this game along with its DLCs and expansions one of the BEST GAMES EVER and a MUST BUY, from casual to hardcore gamers.

With nice visuals and movement, one thing i didn't like was the fact that one is unable to fast-travel without crossing a "certain" area before unlocking the destination for fast-travel. Therefore, a lot of walking is done in the earlier missions.
For a year 2011 game, this has really done a good job and it is recommended for players who enjoy RPGs. (Role Playing Games)

As for the DLCs, there is currently quite some of it, and well worth the price if you liked the game. But i personally doesn't have that much of a patience to complete the whole game, as well as the time needed.

Lastly, don't forget that not many games have "endless" replay-a-bility after completing it. Skyrim provides at least a few hundred hours worth of gameplay and missions, enough to keep you engaged for a really long time if you are really liking the game of course.

The graphics are no where near where they should be, the quests are uninteresting/ridiculous and the menu is terrible. I feel like everything was "dumbed down" for those that can't really *get* into a good, deep RPG. Instead, it was directed at the COD players out there (yes, you know who you are) that want INTENSE, ACTION PACKED AWESOME, but without the mystical backing. I'm sorry, but when I become the leader of a guild, I want to feel like I earned it. The quest lines were shallow, rewards for exploration were weak, and the world didn't really come together like it should have, Overall, it wasn't a *bad* experience, but I was definitely disappointed. The main quest is far too short and very dull and meaningless and then there are the guilds which are shorter and much worse. HereOkay this is a little hard to understand, but let's start with the positives. Here we go. Skyrim is a great and vast world to explore with quests everywhere. They have improved a lot of things such as smithing, alchemy, and enchanting. Now we go onto the bad. The main quest is far too short and very dull and meaningless and then there are the guilds which are shorter and much worse. Here is a nutshell of all the major guilds. Companions: Short and dull with little to do. College: Short and most of the quests are search and retrieve. Dark Brotherhood: The shortest of all the guilds and where are the cool kills from Oblivion that I was hoping for, oh right there not in Skyrim. Thieves' Guild or should it be called the Followers' Guild, because there is ONE thief quest and it wasn't very good in the first place. Also the storyline of each of these guilds was dull, boring, and at the end nothing special happened. Also at the end of each of these guild and all throughout Skyrim are those MMO quests that have you kill or retrieve something. Sadly most of the quest that I was talking about are kill or retrieve even some of the guild and main quests. There is also no one in the entire game who you can actually like or remember, even your spouse is forgettable. You also feel like everything was for nothing, like you actions didn't change the world at all. The only people who actually talk about your actions are the guards and those are for only joining guilds. There is also the times when an NPC's voice will change. Now we get onto weakness number 2, Combat. The game's combat system is terrible. You basically spam the the attack key with no true challenge in the entire game and that is unless you go on to a harder difficulty and than the game gets even worse. The reason why is it becomes nearly impossible to play a Wizard at the start and everything kills you in ONE hit while you need to hit them at least TEN times. Then there is the leveling system which also pretty poor and this is because it makes the game feel more like a hack and slash than a real RPG. You put perks into skill trees and that is it you can't even get all the perks. Previous Elder Scrolls games had a more RPG feeling to them and who knows why they changed it. Then there are the bugs which ruin the game and defeat any form of progression. The DLC was also terrible, but that isn't the point. Overall the game is worth ONE playthrough. Because you can play the entire game in one playthrough because Bethesda was lazy and didn't put any choices in the game that would affect endings. So this game gets a 6/10 for being so lacking. At first glance I would have given this game a 10/10 easily, but only after two playthoughs do you realize how much of a rip off this game is. My review is very late, but that is only because I sat down to play some Skyrim today, but could not last five minutes. Do not get this game at full price and if you do get it for PC or better yet get Oblivion or Morrowind both of them are cheaper and will keep hold of your attention much longer. Skyrim is by far the worst Elder Scrolls game I have ever played and I do not intend on playing it again. Expand

If you disagree go back and try it. Skyrim is a hollow shell of a game with only a single great feature: The WORLD. The rock structures the plants and the weather of Skyrim are all brilliant. The fish in the streams, the butterlies in the air. AWESOME work. well done Bethesda. Sadly its ALL DOWNHILL from there. Skyrim boasts '300' unique locations. Well its more like 4 really, all copypasted and tweaked to be 'different' but they dont feel different. You might enjoy your first draugr ruin, but running through nearly identical ruins over and over again looses its luster soon enough. And it becomes incredibly tedius before you have levelled up even your first character. Character development in this game hits NEW LOWS. For a company that is supposed to 'know and love RPGs', how can it be that with each new game levelling your character becomes more tedius and BORING. The character levelling system in this game is TERRIBLE. Choosing between 'red' 'green' or 'blue' when you level is TERRIBLE. And from the studio that 'knows and loves RPGs the magic system is also TERRIBLE. The mellee combat, hit detection, and double-wielding mellee options are all TERRIBLE! Go Bethesda! The studio may be famed as 'knowing and loving RPGs', but is an abiding mystery why they think they can create immortal games without HIRING ANY WRITERS. You got that right. Click on the credits for the game, read it and weep. When you are playing the game you might notice how dull, boring, repetive and tedious it all is. You might notice that every single quest is a pale version of something you saw before in Oblivion or Morrowind. You might awaken to the fact that the 'endless questing' is a lie, no fun at all. Check the credits to blame the writers. THERE ARE NONE. that's right. Bethesda is so hard up for money that the 3D artists who built their 4 dungeons and the 20 physical assets they dump in every single room in the land double-up as scenario writers. And if you think the side quests are bad watch out! The main quest is WORSE. it's probably the most pathetic excuse for a story dumped into a game in the last decade! It's ever worse than Fallout 3 (Which is overall a much better game than this one by the way). Not only that. This game is totally lacking in terms of the kinds of magical or legendary items we usually associate with RPGs. The only vaguely interesting items to find are tied into the Daedric Quests. These quests are an assorted grab bag of sheer nihilism and ammoral garbage which will demand you please the 'whims of the gods, doing such role playing classics as eating human flesh and murdering strangers in order to get the blessings of the god'. Nice work Bethesda! (NOT!) So if you can endure a dreadful character system, boring combat, boring 'adventures, terrible magic, non-existant plots, a game that in all areas is inferior to both Morrowind and Oblivion, I guess Skyrim is Ok. It has its moments, roaming, watching sunsets, catching butterflies, of fishing by hand in the cool clear streams. I truly wonder at user reviews that give this game 10/10 scores. presumably these are all written on the initial wonder, before 40 hours have passed. Before they have accumulated 300,000 gold with nothing you need or CAN buy, or learned how to make every potion under the sun, only to find that they NEVER EVER need to use even one potion, or while they are trying various wield options before realising that most of them suck, and settled on playing sneaky archer, which is the only really viable build (SIGH). When you play this game to maximum level it reveals itself as a soul-less, empty, hollow lonely, terminally BORING, joyless affair. There is not a single likeable NPC in the game. No kind of interesting interaction with any of the puppet-like characters in the game. There is no main plot, no compelling sidequest, nothing memorable at all. Only some sunsets, some bug-catching and then tedium as you waste dozens of hours unlocking dragon shouts that you never even need to use. All this in a crappy port with the worst UI ever put on a PC. Bethesda do NOT know and love RPGs. Bethesda are cheap skates who cut corners, build huge worlds and fill them with copy-pasted tedium and FILLER. The high scores for this game are wishful thinking, tinged with nostalgia, and appreciation for all the good things Bethesda have done over the years. Bethesda needs to know the ways this game is NOT GOOD. They have to understand the way it fails. They can and should do a LOT better than this. Giving this game a 10/10 is a really big mistake because that only encourages more of the same. Wake up people, believe me. You do NOT want more of THIS! Expand

This is how you make the perfect game. Gamers understand that there is not always room in the budget for everything, so leaving the door open to modding and expansions is always admired. While the earlier games were essentially role-playing games set in simple environments, things changed with the release of Morrowind which was a fully immersive 3D environment. Players could choose their race, decide what skills to specialise in and take part in story missions.

The next game, Oblivion refined the gameplay with an enhanced physics engine, gorgeous graphics and more realistic NPC reactions and conversations.

Skyrim is the fifth main Elder Scrolls game and takes place in a snowy environment. The player is revealed to be ‘dragonborn’ and thus is the only warrior who can permanently take down the Dragons which fly around and disturb the townsfolk. The story puts you right in the heart of the action and makes you feel like a real hero.

In terms of gameplay, it is comparable with the earlier games along with FPS/RPG games such as Fallout. The user has a first-person perspective while battling and exploring (but a third-person view can be toggled on or off). There is a sense of weight and realism when you swing your weapon at an enemy or fire a spell.

While you cannot craft spells, there is still a wide range of skills and spells open to many different player levels. The player earns experience by levelling up any one of the 18 skills. When the player achieves a level they can unlock a perk which directly benefits one skill. For example you can unlock a perk that enables you to slow down time while aiming the bow, or a perk that allows you to bribe guards to ignore crimes.

Along with helpful townsfolk NPCs which are well voiced, there are followers which act as your partners in battle and provide teamwork during intense struggles. You can also summon allied creatures by using a conjuration spell.

There are many different ways to play, from being a tough warrior, a mage, a fast thief, an archer or more. Player choice is always at the forefront of gameplay and there is a wide range of dialogue options available to you.

Overall Skyrim is a fantastic game and really presents the sense of wonder and exploration that these types of games provide.

People say the same things, act the same way, doing the same exact things, like nothing has happened. Not even the threat of the dragons really bothered them at all, nevermind the fact, that dragons seem to be rather occupied by killing the wildlife anyway. The magic is very hampered and uninspiring, while the close combat feels like just whacking around. Graphics is great, although there are plenty of low resolution textures, that makes it look like a game from 2006. The real score the game should deserve would be around 5 or 6, but because of the thousands of mods and the time I have put into it, it gets a 7. All the so called pro-reviewers giving 9 and10 are smoking something, that they should share. There is no way this game is perfect. Expand

For me, Skyrim lasted quite a while. I put about 70 hours into it on PC and half as much on Xbox 360. At first it was all so familiar, you start off as a prisoner. Explored, I suppose I enjoyed it moderately. I did the main quest which was...to be honest...a bit rubbish. You basically have to kill a dragon, a dragon thats slightly bigger than all the other ones. I love the combat, its so simple and easy to use and is much more enjoyable than having to constantly press buttons. Although combat was simplified it felt...so..dumbed down, the magic you use was visually impressive yet boring. While there were significant improvements from the two previous games there were also let-downs. I felt as though the quests were errands "go and deliver this to my wife." "Could you take this spiced meat for the Jarls dogs" They....bored me to death.

But really...I enjoyed it while it lasted. Although I really have NO urge to go back to it I have some good memories of exciting battles, interesting places, hilarious glitches and those funny gamer poops. The graphics is ABSOLUTELY fine, it sickens me when people complain about its...texture glitches....I mean I really didn't notice it much and I didn't really care. Its truly a shame that I'm bored of it now, but hey, I liked it. I would recommend it but I wouldn't say "GET THE GAME NOW!!!!"

The series improved the melee combat system but retained lots of the flaws from oblivion. Using magic is no fun in this game, the main story isnt just that interesting, stealth feels broken because of dumb npc's, your actions dont have that much influence in the game world. Interface is an insult to PC gamers. Every dungeon looks the same and many more flaws.

The open world aspects are SO welcome as I love sandbox type of games. The immersion is great until you hit one of the numerous quest killing bugs. Perhaps the most central quest line, when you receive the greeting from the Grey Beards WILL NOT COMPLETE no matter how many times I try or do anything differently. I have watched goats floating in the air about 150 feet off the ground only to fall straight down and then start to roam around. But the voice acting good. The crafting is very fun. Re-playability, if you can tolerate the bugginess is high. I still find myself hopping into the game when I can because I do have fun with it. That is as long as I don't want to alt-tab from the game. When I come back in I get the double cursor bug with is WAY irritating. It is also SLOW to react at times and you can make the AI bug out pretty easily. With all of that said I can only give this an 8. Or should that be a 7. Or a 5. Oh no it should be a 10. Skyrim is enjoyable the first time you experience anything; The first time you pass that group of people, the first time you do a quest, the first time you climb up the Throat of the World, the first time you talk to a guard, etc. Then you quickly find out that there is no depth to anything. The menus are very bad, mods do help but they still are often unresponsive and annoying.
The graphics are awesome, and so are many of the mods you can download with it. It's probably one of the most modded games in history. However even with mods it's still pretty unsatisfying, NPCs still say immersion breaking things, completnig major quest lines have very little impact on the world and the "people" there are pretty bland with very little to say or do. It certainly doesn't feel very immersive.

Once we have better AI and are able to properly communicate with the NPCs of their world, I think we'll start getting incredible "Open World Sandbox" games. But for now, we're stuck with games like this, which excel in certain areas but are ultimately not that immersive and offer very limited interaction with the NPCs.

Another thing that annoyed me is how unattractive the factions are. I didn't feel an urge to help either the Stormcloaks or the Imperials, both were pretty unappealing factions to me. Even the Blades and the Greybeards were flawed.

But I'm still giving this a 7 because it excels at certain things like graphics, amount of things to do (huge amount of content) and the lore tends to be good. If you enjoy open world type of games in a fantasy world, you'll almost certainly like this one.

You can create your own potions at alchemy labs, smith your own weapons and armor at forges, and then you can enchant them to be more powerful, you can even name them. There are hundreds of different books that you can collect and you can read each one, some of them even upgrade your skills. The skill system is pretty broken you can get from level 1 to 100 in some skills smithing in 10min by just crafting the same thing over and over again with mats you buy from merchants, and that's pretty stupid if you ask me, they needed to make skilling a lot longer a lot more rewarding!

The weather effects are nice. Overall it's joyful and fun to play, but there are a few things that could have been much better. The main quest is really short. There is no feel of something grand going on. It's just you against the bad guys. Yes you can bring a companion with you, and from time to time you escort someone to safety, but it still feels empty and lonely. From time to time you get jumped by a thief who asks for your purse, or same bandits roaming certain places. You can almost tell which one will have bandits. The side quests are usually boring. Fetch this, get that at X then go back. They should have attached more quests to the main story instead of having a 'billion' side quests.

Fighting style is limited to certain combinations, the skill list is big but alas they forced the player to choose certain style combo. That's a shame. The UI is not good enough I think. AS a caster I have to switch really fast between spells, or I must pause and then choose. As a caster it's difficult to play. Arrows will kill you instantly when the archers start getting much better arrows and bows. Throw a few melee enemies and you can't do much as a caster then keep distance and behind cover, otherwise it's death. Spells to slow targets or keep them away are limited. Talking about spells... you will keep using the same spells for a long time. The expert and master spells are only available at 90 and 100 for master. 100 points is max for any magic skill level, which means you have to train and grind till 90! by that time you are over lvl 30 and played many hours with the same spells. At level 90 summoning skill and lvl 35 character I could buy my Summon ice pet, before that I had to use my weak wolf. And my fire elemental that has fireballs. The idea of an RPG is to get new spells and rewards from time to time, but that is soo limited.

Another thing that annoys me, and shows that it's a bit unfinished or rushed: you get a certain title archmage very quickly as if you earned it by doing a few quests. It's just not realistic.... or immersive.

Skyrim is fun, but could have been much better. It fee;s like they focused a lot on the visuals, then created a quick and short main quests and start selling the game. In the meanwhile create extra DLC to earn more, to fill the gaps that the main quest should have. After looking at the start of the game I expected a lot. But alas the start is great, but the ending is not always shiny.

So I understand why so many people voted mixed or negative. Thanks to the modding world and skyrim Nexus mod program, the game is worth more....but this should not be the way to create games....
Without mods it should be a blast to play.... and not what it;s now...

Countless Dungeons, Keeps and other Stuff to explore. The World is huge, so big you will have to spend 200h+ to explore every location. I'm removing points mostly for the interface. We're lucky to have mods like SkyUI but they don't fix everything. I wish Bethesda tried to fix this instead of producing content DLC. Hell if they created a DLC for PC users I would support that.

Firstly the user interface, the game never tell us anything on how to use the feature/menu, we discover them ourselves and it is not user friendly to begin with. There is some issues regarding favorite option especially for dual wielding character. The user interface is confusing and not designed for PC gaming. Secondly, the game is purely designed for hybrid class of a character. No pure class will ever make it without metagamming and abuse some mechanic. It is because this game is designed for new generation players who favor the in-between class, mix-magic type of a character. So players who favor pure warrior, mage and rogue type will have a problem especially in the middle game. Thirdly, the game favor evil type of a character, pure good character have no place in Skyrim. Most of the quests are based on greed, deception and worst end up sold own soul to some deity/satan/whatever. There is lack of good options in most quests. Higher grade weapon/armor is demonic in nature and every character will need Enchantment in which the process need the character to trap any living creature soul and manipulate it. There is no moral background for such practice and it is some what encouraged. The hero (Dragonborn) him/herself is a soul stealer. Fourthly, the AI for followers is so bad, and there is a bug where the followers never level up with the character, they will end up weak as the main character and enemies become stronger. Fifthly, lack of in depth story. The world is vast and rich but the characters are boring and not interesting. The population will only repeat some few lines, the followers also, each characters are poorly constructed to make us deeply involve in the world. Sixthly, the main quests suffer the same with previous TES, that is the world don't run by it self, it is the player who move the things to come. The player will be directed to someone or place to "activate" the quest. So long as the player don't "activate" it the world is stagnant. Everybody will talk about the thing, but nothing happen until the player "activate" them to happen. Seventh, the leveling system is better than previous TES, but still it is not so interesting. Most perks are just passive upgrades, and there are little information on what and how the perk function, some are even misleading. Some perks are wasted depended on what type of a character played, have to choose them just to unlock the perk really needed, so it is a waste on certain level ups. Eighth, there are too much of fetch quests, eliminate certain NPCs quests, bring certain item to certain NPCs quests, in which are boring. There is no background story or whatever, we just being told to do it and then it's done. Some quests are not even quests, but considered a "quest". And we are the hero of the land, the Dragon Slayer, the Arch Mage and whatever title we get, the game treated us as nothing, we still have to prove our self to join some faction, we still doing some menial tasks, we still become errand boy/girl to someone. Ninth, too many bugs and glitches, no need to say more. Tenth, this game is empty, despite all the wonders and beautiful things in it, still it feels empty... Expand

The game is amazing just like oblivion was the main issue i had was with the game crashing all the time. I eventually fixed it through updates and lowering resolution but by that time, it had kind of ruined the experience for me. Also the lack of multiplayer or pvp is kind of disappointing.

First, what brings the game down: Bethesda seems to have no problem creating a beautiful and detailed world, however, they forget about giving it a sense of believability and immersion. Look at Bleak Falls Barrow as an example: you follow a very visible path up a mountain to a MAJESTIC stone sculptured temple in perfect condition. Yes, it looks very cool and impressive, however, it feels like a tourist attraction. The door to the temple is highly visible atop a wide, pristine stair case. The whole place feels like it was recently built yet I'm supposed to believe it's an ancient ruin??? I don't get it. Inside the temple are cobwebs and crypts with treasure that has, inexplicably, not been looted yet. Why are the bandits the only people to discover this place and why didn't they bother looting it yet? I guess they didn't notice the big-ass chests sitting out in the open. Contrast this to Baldur's gate where you discover an underground crypt system under a shifted grave marker in an old dilapidated graveyard (which I was warned to be wary of). It actually felt like I was exploring and ancient dungeon that no one had entered in a hundred years. Another example of immersion breaking is Anise's cabin. The cabin literally has no roof. There is almost more sky than there is roof yet Anise lives there, in a cold climate!?! Inside the cabin she has candles burning I guess not enough sunlight is coming THROUGH the roof. I also get to "talk" to Anise. But all she does is say 3 lines over and over that describe who she is. Sorry but that's not conversation nor is it immersion. Let me actually talk to her and discover who she is myself. They made her into a prop instead of a character I can get to know. One of her lines say "it's hard getting by out here but I make do". So I raid her garden of everything green and she still says the same 3 lines. C'mon, Bethesda give me some interaction and immersion here. It would be very easy to program some new lines if I raid her garden or enter her cabin without permission. There is something to discover about her but it could have been done so much better. I could go on and on about immersion but I'll stop there. The combat still feels like 1998 (with only minor improvements), walking animations the same. When will developers make characters legs stop moving when they hit an obstacle? Or automatically step over the obstacle? Never, I'm thinking. Little disappointed in only 3 attributes to choose from as well. The dungeons and night time seem too well lit as well. It would be fun to have dungeons be pitch black and have you rely on your torch or spell for light and/or have old wall torches that you light as you go. Focus on atmosphere and creeping you out like in doom3 back in the day. Imagine hearing sounds in the dark that's beyond the light of your torch. It's hard to be afraid in a dungeon that's lit up like Walmart. That's the thing about Skyrim, there's just so many things they could have done better. But it does have a positive side: the game looks amazing on ultra high. Much more atmospheric than Oblivion the urban park. The monsters look cool and scary. Having a giant run at me and pound me into the ground was very cool (ah no level scaling with them at least). It will be fun to build up my character and take them out (isn't that right Oblivious?). The UI is trash but I found using the Xbox controller helps immensely and was very intuitive. As a whole I'm having fun and would recommend the game (for $39.99) despite the immersion/reality issues I have with it. Expand

By far one of the better RPG's I have played, the world is immersive and really beautifully done.
I will say that from an art perspective landscape wise I thought it was beautiful but after some heated debates I would have to say that the armor is mostly lacking with the exception of two sets.

Great, great and ... great! Beautiful and diversified world, many amazing quest chains. Feeling free playing style is amazing. One of the greatest games I'm still returning to and always find something interesting to do. 1 point subtraction is for many glitches and poor console UI (that mods can repair). Also crafting could be better but who cares :)

Above all, Skyrim has several main stories, not only one, besides optional missions. Maybe that's the best part of it. Because, seriously how long do you play a video game? 5 hours? 10 hours? 20 hours? Mostly 40 hours? I have played Skyrim over 200 hours and with new mods coming out day by day, it never becomes boring. Yes! Mods are the second good part of it. With the mods, all atmosphere becomes real, almost comes alive. What makes a game perfect is only the players. And how much you are a good gamer, that much Skyrim is good. If you complain about Skyrim, no offence but you are a bad, impatient and obsessed gamer. If you don't know about the mods, you better learn them immediately. Because with them, a masterpiece of Bethesda, turns out masterpiece of yours. Probably that's what Bethesda wish: Give the chance to players for showing their imaginations. So, if you do have some imagination, you should definitely try Skyrim even though you didn't play previous TES games. Expand

Incredibly generic story and plot, decent at best graphics, decent at best game play. Terrible voice acting, terribly generic characters. Without a doubt the worst of the series.

The perfect hack and slash fantasy. Low raters are either far too choosey or don't understand Skyrim's genre, which is a very old one and is harder to come by these days. If you're looking for more character depth, video games aren't the answer. Try pen and paper RPGs.

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
