Not much left to be said that hasn't been said already. Brilliant game.. expansive, beautiful and highly addicting. Base game is a 9/10 then add in the customization available through mods and this game is one of the only games ever to truly pull off a perfect 10 rating.

A glorious masterpiece of a game, which is literally a country for you to explore and become part of. The graphics are sublime, the endless quests are intriguing, mysterious and compelling, the customisation of your character and what he/she chooses to do is liberating and a stroke of genius.

Honestly, in my humble opinion, arguably the greatest achievement so far in the realm of video games.

The entire game is level scaled, so there is absolutely no feeling of progression. The RPG mechanics are practically non-existent (in other words, they are terrible), the story is terrible, the Inventory and UI are terrible, the voice acting is horrendous. I could go on forever.

I played Skyrim from beginning to end, made a ridiculously OP set of armor and weapons, and finished about 80% of the side quests. There is SO MUCH to explore in this game, but a lot of it seems pointless. I don't mean to discredit the game designers in any way, but I personally am not one to enjoy an area of a game just for its scenery. If I want to climb up a mountain and enjoy pretty creeks and nature, I'll go camping. It got to a point where I was doing quests just to start shortening the ridiculously long quest list. There was no real emotional attachment to any of them, and no real sense of accomplishment when completing them. No reward was better than the equipment I had crafted, and the enemies ceased to be a challenge. This leads into combat... I don't think there is much to say about this. The melee combat is still pretty clunky in this game (Bethesda... PLEASE take some notes from "Chivalry: Medieval Warfare" on how to create satisfying FPS melee combat), and the range combat consists of slowing down enemies or pathing them into obstacles and pew pewing them do death. There is no real challenge aside from a few encounters, and even then, it is the same concept; just against a harder hitting, longer lasting enemy. The game can become a grind (especially if you are a completionist), and the key battles like Dragon fights become a bore. A real benefit to the game would have been some form of multiplayer (the hardest opponent is always human in my opinion), but we'll just have to wait for the Elder Scroll MMO for that... As an art piece or interactive movie, I give this game a 10/10. Beautifully done... but as a game... I'm sorry, it's just not appealing to me. It's a humongous beautiful world full of repetition and empty of emotion. You got half of the formula Bethesda. Make your game a bit more challenging, clean up your combat mechanics, vary the gameplay a bit more... I'm going to go play some Dark Souls Expand

This game is amazing. Simply put, this is one of the best games I have ever played. The story is phenomenal and has very good role-playing elements. Just as good as the other Elder Scrolls games. The soundtrack is my favorite among the other Elder Scrolls. This game offers around 200+ hours of game play, which is great. 10/10

    - Game offers alot of freedom with your choises and tasks you can do so many things without behind restricted at all (But don't expect the guards to leave you alone if you start a mass murder).
    - A good variety of enemies, quests and items. It's important to point out that you can add more with mods!
    - Amazing graphics and details that will make you drool!
    Weak points:
    - A weak and short "main storyline", although there are many more that you can take part in. The opening is quite slow and characters aren't very rememerable. As soon as the tutorial ends though, you are free to do what ever you what.
    - You will spend alot of time running from shop to shop to sell all your loot.
    - Bugs, crashes and glitches. Very annoying at times.
    - A pretty bad AI. Followers do a terrible job of sticking around and helping. The enemy AI can be absolutly retarded at some times: Randomly runing away, ignoring you completly, not seeing you when you clearly should have been seen or just being plain stupid ("I just got shot in the head a minute ago, but I guess there is nothing there").
    - Gets repatative after a while: same enemies (only stronger), same quests (Go there, kill that/get that).
    - Mediocre voice acting: many characters sound alike, and their lines can be repatative at times.

I hear there is a mod that adds back a lot of the missing RPG elements that were present in the past games, but I have not tried it yet.

I vote a 3 because there is definitely less of a problem with bugs, and significant improvements on the engine (I guess that it would have been a good beta). Other than that, I cannot think of any redeeming qualities. Also, how does this game have a 94 on MC (other than BSW paying for critic reviews)? Even the friends that I have who loved this game don't think it should have gotten that high of a score.

The first two or three dragon fights blew my mind, but it didn't take long to notice the looping patterns every single dragon would follow and how easy it was to exploit that. They soon became a chore. The main questline had a ton of potential but it's just so lacking and by the end I couldn't care less about it. I didn't care for many of the sidequests either, and the much-hyped infinite quests where nothing more than fetch quests. All in all, Skyrim is a nice-looking but barren and shallow sandbox that makes modding a near necessity. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If i could rate more, i would. I thought oblivion was good (and it was) but then i bought skyrim. Actually i bought it for the console and PC. There is so much to explain. (See below)
    ~THE GOOD~
I like all TES games, and each continually develops. When i first bought skyrim, the first thing i noticed was the magic. Holy Hellicopter, they revamped the magic. There are so many more spells than before, all of them have better animations and artwork, just wow. They deserve an A+ on the magic bit. It all looks beter.
Next, the animations. I love the animations, and they have gotten better since Oblivion. Granted, i didnt play Oblivion as much as i wanted to, but the animations in both games are splendid. (More so in Skyrim).
The world. Every quest, every landmark, every Easter egg, every enemy, the items, weapons, spells, NPC's all fit into one big basket of perfect. The entire everything is perfect. It does get a bit boring if you dont have an active quest (Just kidding, go kill some dragons, or explore the random events.)
    ~THE BAD~
    1. Bugs (Its a sandbox game, there are always bugs. Deal with it.)
    2. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COMPUTER, DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE F*ING GRAPHICS.
    3. Also dont complain aout the UI. Its amazing, and is not a console port, or whatever.
    4. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COMPUTER, DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE F*ING GRAPHICS.
    5. This is not an MMO where you can "Switch Weapons/spells 1-5. Its made to be more realistic, and a hotbar would ruin the freedom. (For example, dual weilding.)

True, some types of dungoens are similar, but not to the extent that would make it tedious. This rule applies to other fields, and you can see the developers paid more attention to minor details. No more irritating rules, like buying a new alembic etc everytime you get a better rank in alchemy etc. Although such things may seem minor, they really make the whole experience much better. Also, the main quest is much more well-written than that in Oblivion. And much more fun. I'm on my 120th hour and I's still enjoying it.

So, basically, the bottom line is: if you still haven't played this cause you think oblivion sucked, play it. Much better.

Besides the obvious: poor storyline, poor voice-acting, poor leveling and a abysmal UI, what truly ruined the game for me is that the towns and dungeons didnt made ANY sense to me. Every time i entered a dungeon i could see the "secret" sliding stone door. Dungeons, untouched for centurys, were littered with fruits and vegetables. Wolves are walking around with diamond rings while the population is piss poor. I've seen more bandits than civillians. Wardrobes in the town houses contain a apple, 2 gold, a shoe and a piece of carchcoal. 20m2 huts normally contain a bed, a table, a wardrobe, 3 treasurechests(each filled with a couple of gold pieces and maybe something like a banana) and 8 barrels for the 5 pieces of vegetable. The layout of the town houses and defenses are complete nonsense. The average dungeon consists of 3kilometers of elaborate, narrow, copy-paste corridors whom, again, dont make ANY sense at all.
But what really pissed me off,,,, bandits are walking around with some crappy cloth armor a bow and utter rare enchanted deadra arrows while the room next to them is filled with ebony armor and one of skyrims 900.000 enchanted jewels.......
    No...sense...

The fast-travel system that Oblivion invented, helps to ignore most of the open world, by simply traveling right to the front door. The fighting system is still mostly a simple 1-click annoyance. The story is great, that saves a lot. I understand that dragons are fascinating and big enough to give birth to one of the greatest hypes, but the rest of the game is dull. At a certain level, you run around and just wait for another dragon to show up. It's even more simple than older TES games. Your actions have no real outcome, no matter if good or bad. You cannot kill important people, the game babysitts you through until you have enough bad-ass equipment to bore yourself to death, while spending 24 hours in armor that looks like it was designed by 15 year olds, neither looking comfortable nor practical, but just "stylish". With the real world becoming more and more a catwalk for one-day celebrities, bred from boring normal people, becoming a dragon slayer in a dull world is just another step on the arc of the uninspired youth. When a company thats doing RPGs runs out of ideas, it might just as well put dragons onto the table.
Here are some reasons why this world is so dull IMO:
    1. dwemer ruins.... traps and machines still intact after hundreds of years. Unexplored while being 10 minutes away from civilization.
    2. civilization... standing still for thousands of years. Rumors tell of a thing named "crossbow", to be developed soon. The people in this world are lazier as the average gamer.
    3. dragons... scary as they should be, have a companion with you who just cannot die until you kill him yourself and the fights become meaningless. The companion is like your babysitter, someone from Bethesda, accompanying you through the game so that the bad boys won't hurt you.
    4. the system... is downgraded with each TES game. No more weapons ready to swap with a single key. No sir, we develop games for consoles now, and since the average gamer becomes younger and younger, we have to make it so damn easy, even a 10 year old could feel like a dragon slayer.

Skyrim has made significant improvements over the past games, those being replacing the class system with a perk system, allowing for greater specialization: now improving a one-handed skill doesn't mean practicing with a sword makes with better at swinging a mace. Customization options are really good and the characters don't look like potatoes. The game world is really beautiful, varied, with some degree of verticality due to the mountains and filled with little stories here and there in the form of notes and journals. However, the game feels largely unfinished and empty. The guild questlines are incredibly short and still allow for a character with no skill to become guild leader, especially the College of Winterhold and the Companions, though the Dark Brotherhood one is well done. The Civil War could have been much more, but it limits itself to changing the guard outfits, the dragons all have the same behavior: land at ~35% health and the player can head-on charge, spamming attacks left and right. The combat feels largely like Oblivion: hit the enemy sponges until they die. Blocking has no benefits, you still get damage and stamina is useless outside of sprinting: enchant your weapon with stamina drain and get power attacks all day long. Despite being very nicely handcrafted, the towns are incredibly small, even Solitude, which is supposed to be capital of Skyrim, only feels different in size due to its tall buildings you (most of the time) won't be able to enter. Almost all dungeons are corridors with the back entrance either being inaccessible due a combo of high terrain and invisible walls or are just stupid 'key required' locks. The loot is very poor, even a master locked chest has no more than one or two mildly priced items, forcing the player to use a lockpick perk to suddenly find daedric items everywhere, much like the speech perk tree is required for you to sell all the items you want. Lastly, this is the first game since Daggerfall where the player character can utter complete sentences all the time, unlike Morrowind and Oblivion, but the dialogue is very simplistic: Speech checks are rare and useless: a step back from Bethesda's own Fallout 3, where you could completely bypass a quest with a simple check. They also force the character to be a dumb warrior/wizard/thief/whatever simply due to the lack of skill checks like in New Vegas: Your character, the Dragonborn, blessed by Akatosh with a soul of a dragon, is nothing more than a dumb chap who needs everyone to tell him what happened for the last years because apparently he/she was living under a cave or something.

Bottom line: the game is enjoyable, but not exactly GOTY material, not with these issues, not with the bugs and definitely not with the interface on PC.

How come they didn't notice the character-less followers, the horrendous interface, the predictible dungeon's ending patterns, and, most of all, the fact that the player has even less options regarding their character's attributes, birthsigns, skills, magic and equipment?

All are throating off about the graphics and the immersion, the shouts and the dragons. Yes, they're quite fine, thank you. But they are also normal it is expected that the next TES will be even better in this domain. They always did that since Morrowind, putting all the work on superficiality as a substitute for imagination and the option they didn't give back to players.

This game is played like Zelda; It is obliously made with the young console user in mind, the kinda guy that buys (or rather his parents) like 3 games a month. It has little re-playability value, since a sole character can pretty much do all aspects of this thin game. Bethesda's first public, puristic roleplayers that enjoyed a rich, open world and character elaboration, are slowly being forgotten. It is a game made for children. Check this out at this rate, I'm sure Bethesda will do away with the third-person view altogether, soon. All you will see about your character will be a pair of arms.

I read the professional critics here before buying the pricey game. That should teach me to never do that again. And as a result, playing Skyrim just makes me want to return to the Fallouts, Oblivions and Morrowinds. Shame on this guy for the promotion they did of the game, at the expense of the players. Shame on you, Metacritic. Oh, and you owe me 60 bucks.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. I have not encountered any glitches or crashes so far. The more and more you play, the more addicting the game gets. With spectacular graphics and an adventure you'll never forget. I would say Skyrim is one of the best games I have ever played.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had a 3000 character review written but metacritic gave me the message "Your review must be at least 150 characters long.". Okay... So I'll condense what I said into very easy bullet points.

Keep in mind I've played about 60 hours total now which is more than broken in but admittedly not as good as it could be for a full review. Nevertheless, let me begin:

    1. Dwemer ruins, caves & crypts are literally the only dungeon tilesets in the game.
    2. Game boasts hundreds of hours worth of side quests. Once you've done 60 hours worth of them like me you realize the "quantity over quality" feel and that the experience & reward before, during and after all quests are the same and quite pointless. Quite literally "Kill X for X Reason" or "I lost X Item in X Dungeon".
    3. Almost all quests are fast-travel fests. Expect the map to be open often as you travel across the world in seconds. No fast travel would be worst with Skyrims setup but it is nonetheless immersion breaking.
    4. Guilds are a shadow of their former selves, with you being able to join guilds like the Dark Brotherhood literally after 1 short quest. After 1 short quest you are simply allowed access to this super secret society and their secret lair.
    5. No real impact on the world beyond guards saying things. I killed the EMPEROR OF TAMRIEL and the greatest impact I've seen so far is a town guard saying the "emperor of skyrim" was dead.
    6. At level 31 and 60 hours played, my 60k gold is pointless and selling items are pointless.
    7. Storyline is cliched to hell with the standardized "ancient evil villain (dragon) trying to take over the world, and only a last of his kind super badass (dragonborn) can save it". Within a few minutes of starting the game you manage to take down a DRAGON with iron weapons & 4 or 5 regular town guards, and are then told you are an amazing total badass warrior. This personally irks me because I hate the modern casualized babygamer trend of stories starting off with the protagonist already being an established god of warfare. This is why I liked games like Fallout 1 & 2 where you started off relatively as a nothing, but through your own efforts became a powerful badass.

Skyrim is worth buying to enjoy for around 60 hours but only if you manage to get a steam sale. Beyond that you shouldn't waste $60 or more. If you want a real RPG I suggest trying out Baulder's gate, fallout 1 or 2, planescape torment among many others. Not to mention you'll get far more & longer enjoyment out of them for $5 on gog.

A very hard push forward in the right direction for the elder scrolls franchise. Skyrim, even after 2 years still delivers the sense of awe, and wonder that it did immediately upon its release. The main quest line is involving, and rather interesting. It takes about 10 or more hours to finish, and even that is so much more than most games that are released. However, Skyrim by no stretch of the imagination is only 10 hours long. It easily carries 300 hours of immersive, fun, and high quality gameplay. There is not only the main story to complete here. There are guild quests which pack the same storytelling qualities as the main quest line. There are a plethora of side quests, and misc quests to complete. And even after all that there is still the leveling of your character, and the deep crafting mechanics implemented into the game. The exploration in this game is also very deep. Having a large amount of interesting and varied environments to explore. Definitely a lot better than oblivion's very familiar looking dungeons, and areas. The variety, and detail in a game as huge as Skyrim really shows Bethesda's passion, and patience. The variety in weapons and armor however, to me, is dissatisfying. There is a good amount. However by the time you get your character into the higher levels, it feels as if there are very limited armor choices. The armors do look great but I wish there were more armors and weapons honestly. The weapon variety is definitely way greater than the armor variety, but still not as good as it can be. However, despite that minor complaint, overall Skyrim boasts a ridiculous amount of content in a single package. This game is well worth 60 dollars, considering that there are 7 hour games with no replay value sold at the same price.

So the game definitely shines in the content department. Boasting an easy 300 hours (even more if you add mods). But how does it do in the game play department? I'm happy to say the combat is the slickest it's ever been in an elder scrolls game. It feels great, and the combat is mostly fun. However, if you're playing a one handed character of some sort, the combat does start getting rather boring at higher stages of the game. Not only that, but when you are high level, you are god like. meaning during later stages of the game it is very difficult to get killed if playing on the default or lower difficulties. Despite this shortcoming the combat overall is fun, and satisfying. As for bugs, the game doesn't have many. Bethesda has done an excellent job of patching a lot the bugs that plagued the game in its early incarnation. At this stage in Skyrim's life cycle, it is the best performing game in Bethesda's catalog. Having minimal bugs, and glitches. But the inventory UI is awful on PC. The UI in general is awful on the PC. I needed a mod instantly in order to be able to use the inventory. The UI is honestly a rather significant part of a game like this. So I must say that it is really bad, and Bethesda should really have put a little more time into a PC version of the clearly console biased interface. Overall, the game feels great, and really does well in the gameplay mechanics. Something that previous elder scroll games didn't really achieve. But they really should have thought about that user interface.

Honestly, I can go on for hours about this game and its amazing features. That's literally how huge it is. Huge like my hand. It's a masterpiece. A marvel of modern gaming. some of my complaints (not many at all) are rather nitpicky. However, everything has its flaws, especially something with this kind of scope (The game not my hand). Anyway it feels like Ive been here for hours. I'm sure there's a lot I missed, but just go buy the game if you haven't played it already. It's pretty incredible.

The only downfall is how easy this game gets at later levels. I was able to finish mostly any enemy in a few hits and rarely received damage that threatened my character. Some missions also get repetitive, but there is enough selection of quests to where you can easily avoid them.

Maybe if you count DLCs, then Dawnguard would count as well. For example, you can never fight against thieves' guild; the best you can do is to avoid that quest.

The skill system also encourages grinding, which is boring.

Its DLCs, imo, are also overpriced.

Moddability on the other hand is a very important part of this game, and that is why I still give it a 7.

I'll start by saying I have over 50 hours logged with this game and will likely be up to 100 by the time I'm done. When you've sunk that much time into a game and don't really regret it, I'd say it's a good game that served its purpose, regardless of any current disillusionment.

So, Skyrim is the first Elder Scrolls game I've played, and it's about what I expected, on multiple levels.

So, Skyrim is the first Elder Scrolls game I've played, and it's about what I expected, on multiple levels. I'd heard stories of the fantastic world-building and fantasy setting, and I'm not disappointed in that; I find the lore engaging, the holds fascinating, the rich sense of history and myth engrossing, and the particular epic end-of-the-world scenario introduced to be sufficiently badass as to overcome my boredom with being yet again the chosen one on a quest to save the universe.

I've seen some reviews impinge on the graphics, but frankly, if graphics stayed this good for the rest of my gaming life I think I'd be content. No, it's not absolutely photorealistic, but the vistas and dungeons are equally breathtaking and immersive, and the character models and items are sufficiently realistic that I rarely find myself stuck in the uncanny valley. (Then again, this is two years later, with all expansions, so the game when it came out might have looked much worse.)

Of course, I'm one of those people for whom graphics can slide so long as the gameplay is fun and the art design is interesting and boy, do I love the art design here. From goats all the way up to dragons, the animals and enemies just look amazing, hyper-real if you will (not actually realistic, but fantastically real). While I was yearning for much more variation after many hours of play, each piece of clothing or armor the game does have is stunningly detailed and well designed, and the weapons look and feel epic enough to make me want to reach into the game and pluck them out for my own use. Permeated with a Viking motif that I'm already partial to, the world's design just screeches out honor and strength and stark endurance, with danger lurking around every corner that brave men and women face triumphantly on a daily basis. I can, and have, just wandered for hours, taking in each new sight, drawn in to discover how it fits in and adds to this world of badass.

About halfway through, so I should start talking about what I didn't like, I guess. Well, at this point, my major complaint is this: there's so much to do, and yet there's ONLY TWO THINGS TO DO. Your interaction with the world is limited to pressing E, saying yes, and then going out to kill every damn thing at a location. There's barely any actual choices made in this game; people are either ready to tell you their life story, or ready to bash your skull in, on sight. There's no bargaining with or intimidating the bandits that happen across your path, there's no option to infiltrate a cabal of dark mages, there's barely any incentive to sneak through anywhere, and most importantly, there's virtually no character building whatsoever. Everything is just "go to X, kill all the Y, retrieve the Z."

Sure, that formula works for a while but then, when you start thinking, your immersion just breaks. You realize that, here is this massive, breathtakingly beautiful world filled with both natural wonders and the splendor of sapient creation and it's inhabited by cardboard cutouts of characters who tell you to go kill even more vaguely drawn creatures. There's some story imparted along the way, but it's easy to miss as you hack, slash, stab or burn your way across the world, and never actually gives the impression that it really matters.

Next, while the idea of doing something to get better at it is a laudable one it creates total apathy when it comes to making new characters. After I finish the game with my character now, I realized I have no real desire to go back and play a new one; after all, I can do everything the game has to offer with this one. There's pretty much nothing and no one that's closed off to you based on your choices, no new options that become available with a difference in race or focus; as others have noted, you can be the freaking Archmage and not know a single spell above Apprentice level, or the Harbinger of the Companions without ever lifting a weapon. Especially in single player, where you're the only thing with an actual brain around, classes are the only way for the world to actually understand the role you're trying to play.

And finally, to be blunt, the interface sucks balls. Major donkey balls. Even hotkeys on the PC version don't save it; there's not enough to make much difference. Using magic, especially alternating between it and Shouts, is simply annoying where it should be empowering. Swapping equipment or selling is a chore, as is crafting.

To wrap up: it's not at all a bad game. In fact, it's pretty damn good. But a lack of actual choice and character building, combined with the interface, mars what is otherwise an awesome experience.

Bethesda really did a good job in putting lots of small details into the game. But that only counts for some parts of the game. The first town the player enters is greatly detailed and the people living in this town, called Riverwood, react to their environment. But the further one goes into the wilderness of the province of Skyrim, the less detailed the town are.
The environment however is outstandingly good. The environment is very varied and not a single spot in the game, looks like another. The environment contains fast plains and dense forests, small peaceful creeks and wilde rivers. And in this environment many creatures can be found. Also there are many flowers to pick and a lot of animals to hunt.

Skyrim also has good gameplay which does not bore, even after many hours of gameplay. There are many decisions the player can make, which impacts the outcome of a quest. But sometimes the player runs into a glitch which most of the time means that the player has to load an old save and start over. Luckily this is not very common and the game runs mostly without any glitches. The combat mechanics are not into depth and magic seems a little overpowered when the player levels up. The amount of followers a player can have is limited to one and this follower sometimes blocks the player's path. Nevertheless the gameplay is good because of its new features. Like dual wielding weapons, sprinting, better mounts and so on.

The community of Skyrim is a very big community and also should be granted some credits in this review. Many modders enhance the game to an even better experience. They improve the already good graphics, increase the amount of quests and stories and enhance the environment of Skyrim. The vanilla game really is boosted by the great mods available.

In short the game is a very nice production of Bethesda and a game in the series which every Elder Scrolls fan should have played.

    + Good graphics
    + Breathtaking scenery's
    + Great attention to detail

Ah yes, Skyrim. It`s a good RPG game that you will spend a lot of time on (Played 25 hours, about to start a new playthrough with new DLC). Honestly I liked Oblivion much more then I like Skyrim, I don`t know why. It just feels different. But anyway, if you like RPG games, or are a fan of The Elder Scrolls, definitely pick this game up!

Skyrim is really a masterpiece. Large world, great story and good characters. Improvement over Oblivion in almost every way possible. World is bigger than Oblivion, but still smaller than Daggerfall. RPG system is changed, but i do not think the new system is worse. Skyrim is game of the year for ure.

    - Combat feels like you are playing as a cardboard cutout of a fantasy hero stereotype waving

    - The graphics are very slightly better than the first game in the series.

    - All of the features are unoriginal or stolen.

    - It takes you a few hours to walk somewhere, only to find out that it is identical to where you set out
    from

    - The plot makes no sense and is unoriginal: You play as someone who is different to everyone else
    for no particular reason.

    - The animations just look abysmal.

    - The size of this list, just explaining what is wrong with basic features.

Some of the only good features is the absurd possibilities with modding, but even then.

Instead they have you exploring dungeons, making decisions, fighting off spirits in towns, solving puzzles, and of course fighting. The music in this game is great too. The best part of Skyrim though, is the MOD support. Making the game great.

Even though the game has lots of quests and an engaging world, the bad graphics and poor combat system make the game average, while it could have been great, I can only give it a 7.4. Sure it may sound like a lot but for the hype this game is getting it's considered pretty low.

The world of Skyrim is beautiful and filled with detail, yet an uninterresting story with evenly boring characters, dated physics and textures, and frustrating combat make this game a bit of a missed chance, overrated as never before, and simply a copy of everything Bethesda already did before.

I must admit, I enjoyed the game heavily first playing it, the soundtrack was amazing, the new interface with the way everything is handled (like dual-wielding and magic spells). But as I played it more and more, things like the disappointing texture quality, or the repetition of the quests got me down. And when I finished the main quest, I didn't feel up to playing the game much more.
Compared to any other Elder scrolls I couldn't be anything but disappointed in this title, it's dumbed down to such an extent that it's more of a cruise than a challenge, there's a tonne more exploits than previous titles held, and most disappointing of all (in my opinion) is the removal of the class system. It's not only due to the little things like how you have to rest between every level up, but I feel that they've put too much fallout into this game, like the arrival of perks. I like being set onto one type of class, so I can focus on whatever I want, but the system they have here has you easily overcoming all odds, and eventually everyone becomes a super-mage. The faction-war side quest was anticlimactic and could've been improved much more, the way that no one recognized you or didn't care about your progression made the game feel lazy and dull. In fact the interaction with people has deteriorated so much over the course of the elder scrolls that we now have characters that you can't even talk with any more.
The PC port wasn't great, the menus were obviously meant for consoles and made going through anything a chore. But of course As Always there's a mod for that, I never had a game so dull on its own that it actually needed mods for me to be able to play it. Too bad there's no mods for a cheap difficulty setting that only increases the handicap of the player rather than making enemies more complex or more satisfying to defeat, it's like a combat is a grind until you finish the fight.
On the other hand Skyrim made a lot of nice additions to the franchise, like the ability to dual-wield, own a house that you can interact with, blacksmithing, a much better magic system, and a better combat system (that is still plagued with the way you have to just grind at the enemy rather than employing different skills and ways of fighting).
I hope the next elder scrolls has a much better story, progression, interaction, compatibility and a much more complex class system, and maybe smarter AI and less cheap-difficulty.

After I got to a glitch in the Assassin's guild quest for which there was no known fix, I said no mas and moved on. It's really a shame too because at this point I've put enough time in where I don't want to start over on Xbox so basically this game is ruined for me.

There's very little progress for the series. Graphics have barely improved, gameplay is identical, and quests are no more creative than they were in 2006.

For everything Bethesda added in Skyrim, they removed something else. To add more unique spells, they removed spellcrafting. To add dynamic shadows, they removed most of the HDR lighting quality. To add NPCs with more personality, they removed many of the total NPCs, leaving Skyrim barren. To add horse combat, they removed the first person horse camera. Etc. It just continues like this. Every time Bethesda adds something to a sequel, they take away something else. Essentially, Skyrim is the same game I played in 2006, and although I loved Oblivion then, it's not okay to sell the same game year after year.

Morrowind defined the genre in 2002, and 10 years later, Skyrim still hasn't significantly improved. It kills me to do this to a series I still like, but at most, Skyrim deserves an average review. Mods on the PC version are the only reason to buy this game instead of literally any other generic RPG to release in the last 10 years.

The free-form nature of play, the deep and fleshed-out lore, the top-tier graphics, Skyrim is a fitting continuation of the Elder Scrolls legacy. The story in this game, what is that? Let the question sink in for a moment.
So what is the story in this game actually? Well how I see it, is that the story is what you decide to do. You literally never have to do the "main" story. You do what the heck you want in this open world sandbox rpg. And I love it. In fact I hope more games even MMORPGs do this.

The sound in this game, by Jeremy Soule is really good. Sound/Music in games is actually ridiculously important. I enjoy the music in the game.

Quests in this game is not like other RPGs that I've played. You walk around but you're not talking to an npc and reading 4 paragraphs of text, NO! For instance you walk on the road (like a normal person) and then suddenly you see a woman potentially getting kidnapped by som wild men. And then you help her (or else you're a weird person) and then you get a reward of some sort. Everything is dynamic.

When I say that everything is dynamic, I mean the combat as well. When using a bow for instance, you have to aim at the target. There is also gravity on the arrow (obviously since it's an arrow). You actually have to aim with swords/axes/maces as well. You could even run out of the way. Magic works the same way as bow'n arrow, but there is no gravity that is taking it down, it just fades away.

You have 1000's of quests to do in this fantastic world of skyrim. And also "guilds". The Companions, The Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood and The Mages College of Winterhold. You can join all of them actually, and become the leader in all of them too. I'm not going to give any spoilers of these tho.

The Daedric quests are in my opinion the hardest ones. And they are awesome as well with a lot of stuff to do before you're done with one.

All around a legendary game, if you haven't bought it yet.. Go do it NOW!!

Quantity over quality is Skyrim's official motto: Dialogues are very poor, quests are short and they are often uninteresting fetch-quests. Bugs are EVERYWHERE. I have the latest steam version AND newest modders community's patch. These are annoying, for example characters firing dialogue at wrong moments, NPCs dissapearing or freezing, terrible balance (i.e dragons killed by shopkeepers), awkward clipping of weapons...there is no end to those little bugs. And there are also major bugs, preventing you from completing quests. All of this really breaks immersion, yes imagination helps to explain the game's broken content but it's not enough for me.
Combat system is quite meh, every few sword-swing you have to get into menu to drink a health potion or select a diffrent spell (there are hotkeys but too few). Character development is somewhat unique to this game, kinda too simplified but not really a major flaw. The graphics are bearable especially if you use mods.
Mods are great in this game, they add tons of new content. With mods I'd give this game 7/10 but without it's barely a 6/10 for me. It's time to finally stop playing this game hoping that around the corner there is higher-quality content. After 160 hours trust me there is none.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion was the game that got me into the Elder Scrolls. However, Skyrim was the game that made my Elder Scrolls experience perfect. However, Skyrim was the game that made my Elder Scrolls experience perfect. This game is one of my favorite games of all time, if not my all time favorite. Everything, I repeat everything about this game is just perfect. The gameplay, the graphics, the story, the sound, everything is perfect. Skyrim's graphics are quite possibly the most beautiful thing that I have ever laid eyes upon. Everything is filled to the brim with detail, is very colorful, and just downright beautiful. As for the sound, everything sounds just the way that it should. From the sound of the civilizations of Skyrim, to the wilderness, to the dungeons, to its stunning soundtrack, Skyrim is the most beautiful sounding game on the market. As for the story, that depends on what kind of story you're looking for. There are actually many stories to go along with Skyrim's many quests. Every quest has its own story to it. The main quest is an apocalyptic story line, in which you must slay an all-powerful dragon, in order to prevent the apocalypse. The faction quests all follow the same story line, in which you are the new member of a guild, a villain causes trouble, and you eventually work your way to becoming the leader of the guild. The types of guilds are as follows, The Companions who are the warriors of Skyrim who use brute force to kill their foes, the College of Winterhold who are the witches and wizards of Skyrim, the Thieves Guild which focuses on stealing things from others, and the Dark Brotherhood which are a group of discreet assassins who use stealth to silently kill people. You can do one, or you can do all of them, it's up to you. There are also Daedric Prince Quests which basically have you dealing with gods, and several side quests, which all have their own unique story line to them. For these reasons, the story of this game cannot be criticized, because it is actually several different story lines in one. As for this game's gameplay, prepare yourself. I'd say that the gameplay of this game is the best part of the entire game. Because of this game's open world style gameplay, you can quite literally do whatever you want. You can live your own life in the world of Skyrim. You can own a house, work at a blacksmith forge, and learn new spells just to name a few things you can do. However, if this sounds boring, there is of course far more that you can do aside from this kind of work. You can also spend your days in Skyrim battling monsters, fighting through dungeons, taking over enemy forts, and much more involving combat. Overall, I would have to say that the only real problem that I really have with this game is that it does have a nasty tendency to crash, along with having the occasional glitches such as textures not loading properly, and also things that occur in the game that should not be happening. However, these can all be fixed fairly quickly by a quick restart of the game on the PC version. I don't really have much else to say about this game, other than it is simply magnificent. Skyrim truly is one of the best, if not the best, video games ever made. It is living proof that video games can be art. From its beautiful graphics, to its amazing soundtrack, to its many stories, all the way down to its amazing gameplay, Skyrim is a must-buy, and is deserving of a perfect 10 out of 10. Expand

They did a bad job balancing level enemies ratio.

I do like the Daedric artifacts however it was a nice touch.

The fact that Dragonbone weapons was dlc is just bad, since shields were already in the base game.

I think it's kind of idiotic that dragon is the highest lvl armor but daedric is 2nd highest but way more effective.

This game needed some PC love, it's a sloppy console port to spell it out for ya. 1 core low resolution textures. The characters look a bit inhuman at times, some of the women's faces look entirely geometrical at times.

Dragons scale horribly in this game, once you reach lvl 40 it becomes too hard to fight normal monsters even if you upgrade your weapons.

You must rely entirely on exploits if you want to kill anything at high levels, like using the Fus Ro Dah shout because single enemies deal too much dmg.

    Voice actors are recycled.

Only a couple of quests are good like the thief's guild quest and the vampire bloodlines dlc.

Smithing is unpractical in this game since theres no mining woodcutting skills, things weigh too much and you usually find yourself finding equipment off of dead bodies anyway.

This game is mediocre at best, nothing close to a masterpiece.

All guards sound the same, many nice looking areas of the game have no quests at all, like the abandoned mill with 1 lady tending to the mill. A room full of cobwebs nothing.

You can't decapitate anyone unless it's scripted with a skill, These scripted finishing moves don't even touch the enemy, it seems like experimental finishing moves. You can jump while you are knocked down, clearly not tested that well before release.

I like archery in this game, except not on horses because they messed up there....

Shield Bashing looks ridiculous they just sped up the animation it is lazy.

    No polearms spears.

    Lack of Amulets

Only a limited number of magic spells, making melee weapons the strongest in the game.

The dual magic spells stun ruin the game.

Story was bland dungeons are entirely recycled with the exception of 10% of them.

Animations are very stiff for mages enemy taunts.

I am bugged that you can only be a werewolf vampire only once.

This game lacks so many features that Oblivion had, fast travel ruins the game.

Too easy for a RPG. Lack of weapons. Speechcraft is a joke, intimidation is a joke, game is just too easy. You can push dragon priests off cliffs and instant kill them with gravity FFS. Jumping 8 feet in the air will instant kill you. ADD MINING AND WOODCUTTING FLETCHING SKILLS TO MAKE A REAL GAME. AND NO MORE CONSOLE PORTS. 6.8/10

Wow. I really didn't like Elder Scrolls 3 or 4 and could never figure out what all the fuss was about. I always thought Gothic 1 and 2 were WAY better at implementing an immersive open world RPG. To me, Oblivion just seemed bland and repetitive (ie. tower after tower being closed and they all seem to be designed the same way it got tiring for me). Skyrim changed my mind though. IWow. I think they finally figured it out. The world looks great, the quests are pretty good. It has a nice big playtime on it yet you still feel like you can play it casually in 30 minute chunks. The open world design is fantastic. Traversing the world just feels fantastic, believable, and fun. I haven't seen an open world this well designed since the Gothic games. The factions, races and classes are fun without seeming unnecessary. Yeah it's pretty hard to say anything negative about the game. I will say that as a PC player, I absolutely hated the menu system. It wouldn't have taken that much work to make a nice PC based menu system that doesn't feel like a console system. Or maybe it could have been added in as a menu option in case you wanted to play on PC with a controller. That said, their support of mods has allowed me to add in PC friendly menu systems to replace theirs, so at least I have options and can't really complain, as I'm not locked into it. Thank you Bethesda for a great gaming experience. All the accolades are well deserved. Expand

How to play Skyrim: Accept a quest, fast travel to an area, do one of three things (kill someone, talk to someone, get an item), return to the quest-giver, and get a leveled item and another quest. Repeat.

A nice followup to Oblivion. Fun, but nothing innovative or special.

If it weren't for the incessent and sometimes quest breaking bugs, I'd have rated this higher.
I did beat the game, but hindsight being 20/20 I realize Bethesda should probably get their together when it comes to programming. I was unable to complete a Daedric item quest because the key NPC just disappears when you enter the quest location. I was unable to ditch an item because it's

I was unable to ditch an item because it's flagged as a quest item, when I wasn't yet on the quest, but couldn't start the quest because I already had the item. Come on! The lore was great, and the gameplay itself was a blast. But if I had to count the hours of life I essentially wasted because I had to load an earlier save I'd probably cry. When it gets to the point you've got more than 5 save files, not because you want the option to branch in a different direction of the story, but because you want to ensure you have a recent save to go back to when you realize yet again, a quest is broken it gets to the realm of the ludicrous.

Skyrim would've been a great game if it was in the rightful set of hands that truly had the compassion for the Elders Scrolls series. The concept of Skyrim is great, but was very poorly executed. The A.I is terrible. I thought I was in a world where I was surrounded by people who were lobotomized. The animations were poorly done. The followers are useless. The bugs and glitches are migraine creators, and some can impact quests to which you're unable to complete. Don't bother to ask how to fix it on Bethesda's official help forums because the staffs are way to busy on other things rather than to help you with your technical support needs. On April 15, 2013 Bethesda announced that they're no longer releasing DLCs therefor leaving us with unanswered questions.. Who's the next ruler of Skyrim? What is the deal with the Thalmor? those two are the main ones that needs to be answered. Skyrim needs a well deserve ending, not to be shafted. The Storyline was OK, but not great. I know kids who can create a better story then what was presented to us. The price of this game was outrageous. NOT worth it IMO. Skyrim is an incomplete beta project that should've never been release to the public. Without mods this game would be terrible. The menu's were designed for Xbox users, not PC. Without mods this game would be unbearable to play. I'm very concern for the next Elders scrolls game under Bethesda control. Expand

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
