Overwhelming in its depth and value. Bethesda have really topped themselves: this is the best in the series so far and I never seem to have enough time to play through this fantastic game. It's a required purchase for anyone who considered themselves any kind of gamer: be prepared to be floored by the sheer depth of this game. It truly is unrivaled, even by its predecessors.

Though Morrowind stays the better game story-wise and I really liked the fact that you could screw yourself over by killing any character in the game there, this game is just way better because of the improved combat and it just plays more naturally. Better than Oblivion in all aspects of the game and that says a lot considering how much I've played that one...

Graphics are sharp and it still uses DX9 so chances are your PC will run it (on max settings is another story). Combat is on the simple side and the enemies become extremely easy to defeat halfway to the max level unless you intentionally run around undergeared. Go just about anywhere, kill or help just about anyone, start and stop quests anytime, purchase/improve/store items in your own houses, manipulate random objects, ability to create mods. I put it up there with Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age as some of the best RPGs I've ever played. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Insanely addictive. The animations are somewhat jittery from time to time and the shadows act strange sometimes, but it hardly detracts from the experience. I'm running this game at medium graphics settings but I am still amazed at the visuals and the performance I get with them. The open world given to you is enormous and the small things you will come across really make the game. The non-ending quests and the excitement of getting attacked by a dragon make for a game with a very long life. Being able to buy your own house and marry is interesting as well. I'd recommend NOT using the fast traveling tool (except if you are trying to get from Markath to Riften or something like that) , because when you go on foot you will always come across something interesting. This game kind of just clicked for me. It is perfect in almost every way. Before you know it you're clocking in another day of playing time. Be sure to say goodbye to your loved ones and to eat a rather large last meal before you pop it into your computer (or disk drive on the Xbox 360/PS3), as this game is so unbelievably addictive. I have loved Bethesda's past games (excluding Fallout: New Vegas. That game was terrible), and this is no exception. This is not just a game, but art, and a masterpiece at that. Expand

All of this is made even better by the Bethesda modding tools and extensive modding community, which can turn an already excellent game into something truly amazing and breathtaking. With a little work, you can literally customize the game to suit your particular preferences! Don't like the way the inventory is setup? Change it! Theres nothing stopping you.

Ignore the low scores; especially the 0/10's. Never in anyone's wildest imagination does this game deserve a score like that. I can only assume that those reviewers have some kind of hidden agenda - perhaps they work for rival game developers, who knows? They certainly aren't being honest.

Is this game perfect? No - no game is. But its easily the closest thing you'll get to perfect right now.

The best part of the game is that you can go anywhere and do anything you want to do and be anything you want to be, and still do it all in a way to achieve a whole bunch of great storylines and one grand plot. Because the world is so free to interact with and do whatever suits you, I'm surprised there are any complaints at all by anyone, I wonder what sort of mental issues someone could have if they give this a bad review. Even the mundane generated quests are varied and unique and worthwhile. Some of the quest choices I had to make made me full of regret and remorse after I made them, and heck, I'm a coldhearted gamer and never really care about doing evil things in a game! One choice I had to make in particular really made me feel genuinely bad ... what other games out there that can instill genuine *feeling*? Even when my dumb companion would die, I felt a bit attached and would have to restore the latest save and try again so they wouldn't be gone forever. Weird.

On top of that, the graphics are beautiful, the dungeons are never a chore like they became sometimes in Fallout, Oblivion and Morrowind, and there's a huge, full world that you're not going to finish exploring anytime soon. I'm actually surprised they fit all of this into a few gigabytes. The only mentionable point of suckage is the voice acting....they should have hired a bunch more regular sounding people that don't sound like cheap Romanian porn stars to do more of the dialog, but not a big deal. There are also a few bugs here and there but not enough to discourage me in any way.

All in all, I spent 120 hours to finish the main quest and most of the side story arcs, but there's still lots of loose ends and one major class storyline left to do and a hell of a pile of unexplored map, so I got a ton of value out of it so far. Plus in a few months they'll be releasing modding tools and hopefully some expansion packs to breathe even more life into is because I really don't want it to end.

You should also buy it on PC if you can run it, which you should be able to as recommend is a GTX 260 which is pretty low by todays standards. It's better on PC for mods and WAY, WAY faster loading screens. This game is an eight on consoles just because it has a pretty low framerate and super long loading screens.

This game, at the time of its release, had great graphics and strangely low PC requirements for those graphics. Much improved voice acting, big open world, interesting world.

This RPG is stellar on all fronts. Production values are great, the gameplay is great, story is decent, lore is rich. The content is huge and you will be playing for hundrends of hours, even without mods or add ons.

I love the freedoms of the new perk system. One of the most satisfying things in Skyrim is trying to make unique combinations and classes. I have made at least 60 myself, and they all play differently.

Skyrim is not without faults of course, and when it was first released it was buggier than the Amazon river. It still is and you should use the unofficial patches or wait for the remastered edition. But those faults mean nothing in contrast to how awesome this game is. Add the dlcs and some mods, and it becomes one of the best RPGs of all time.

I can't believe the userscore average of 8.1 . Some players seem very salty. This game is one of the best ever. Just because it doesn't have Bioware's lesbian and gay romancing options doesn't mean it is a bad RPG. Grow up!

True, some types of dungoens are similar, but not to the extent that would make it tedious. This rule applies to other fields, and you can see the developers paid more attention to minor details. No more irritating rules, like buying a new alembic etc everytime you get a better rank in alchemy etc. Although such things may seem minor, they really make the whole experience much better. Also, the main quest is much more well-written than that in Oblivion. And much more fun. I'm on my 120th hour and I's still enjoying it.

Dragon shouts are a nice addition to your arsenal and a lot of fun to use. The game is a bit too easy though, dragons are not really challenging so playing the game on the hardest difficulty will give the more hardcore players a better experience.
The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that some NPCs become invincible at a certain point, for example: I completed all the Dark Brotherhood quests but after that I didn't want anything to do with them anymore so I tried killing all the members and I found out there was no way to kill them and get rid of the Dark Brotherhood. To me that's a minor inconvenience but it would be nice if Bethesda could find a way to eliminate situations like these... I know! Designing such a huge open world game is very hard and some compromises have to be made. Once again great game and I can't wait for a DLC!

By far superior to Oblivion.

What's there to improve then? Most of the quests are really linear. The AI is stupid at times in combat. Some of the perks are useless, like the lockpicking perk tree. Nearly every spell is more or less directly connected to combat, we could use spells like open locks which don't relate so much to combat. Luckily for pc users the mods corrects a lot of flaws found in the game. Skyrim is a wonderful game, but even then I wouldn't play it without mods once I've tried them.

No weapon, no enchantment, no armor you find in the real world can compare what you can make and enchant yourself. This means if you are an item whore like me and sell your crap you are sitting on 500,000+ gold. Why? Because there is nothing to purchase. If there is a DLC they need to add some "store bought items ONLY" to the shops. And GOOD items. Make having money worth something. Just a few to many fetch quests. "Travel clear across the world to drop off this paper and come back" happens too often. Lastly during the main quest final fights... you will see A LOT of enemies simply render into the world. This is the PC... we have GPUs, CPUs and RAM to render more than 10 enemies on the screen at a time. Render 50 enemies and lets have a fight. Other than those nitpicky things which keeps it from a perfect 10 the game was great. And those can really be overlooked and have no real smash on the quality of the game. Expand

tl;dr: Incredible RPG, best I've ever played, large and immersive world (150 dungeons!) great dragon combat, beautiful graphics, flawed only by the interface.

I'd give this game 10/10 if not for the interface. First about the game -- this is the most immersive, detailed, and just plain fun RPG I've ever played. The graphics are astonishingly beautiful in some places -- picturesque even.

I'd give this game 10/10 if not for the interface. First about the game -- this is the most immersive, detailed, and just plain fun RPG I've ever played. The graphics are astonishingly beautiful in some places -- picturesque even. On my core7-860 at 2.8ghz with a 5850 I can run at 1900x1200 with antialiasing and all settings to ultra and still get 47-60 fps (60 is my refresh rate so I'm not sure if I had 120hz I would be getting more). Plus there's a VERY active modding community, they gave out their Creation Kit to PC users who have done all sorts of things to improve it.

The game is very addicting and like I said has a tremendous world with hundreds of quests. I've put 150 hours into it and still haven't beat it. The view distance is amazing, standing on a mountain top on a clear day (yes there's dynamic weather) you can see the whole land stretched out beneath you and even the distant cities. The dragons are amazing, in fact all character animations are fluid. Even the lips of the npcs move in sync with the words they are saying! The NPCs for the most part are very aware of your character and say all sorts of cool things that are appropriate to the situation (do a major quest and you'll hear people talking about it in another city for example). All in all creates incredible immersion.

The only ding is on the interface. It's CRUDE. Made for consoles. No way to group your items. I did download a mod called SkyUI that does a lot to improve it, at least then it's broken down into "weapons" "wearables" "potions" "scrolls" etc, but still no way to group them. When you have 12 rings in your inventory that you regularly swap between it becomes a huge hassle as they are listed with armor and amulets.

Another plus is access to the console. The horses tend to die easily and I like being able to resurrect my horse (and I don't consider it cheating, personally, since the horses are flawed to begin with; they also tend to disappear and I use the console to bring it back to me). Of course there are multiple mods that enhance horse functionality as well. I've hit one or two quest glitches, nothing that couldn't be fixed using instructions online. I don't understand how the reviewers who gave this a low rating can justify it.

Yes, Skyrim has a lot of bugs, and it is a shame. However, that's the only negative thing I can think of and after patching, they're minimized. Plus, on PC they're not as big of an issue (console fix).

The biggest thing that Skyrim has done better than its predecessors is offer the most superb level design and environments, far better than Oblivion and Morrowind's repetitive dungeons that all look the same. Even the draugr crypts in Skyrim have unique layouts, unique stories, NPCs, etc. The only repetitive aspect is that they're filled with draugr. I'm amazed how many dungeons are in this game and how beautifully crafted they all are. The outdoor environments are great, too.

Combat is so much better than previous games. Music is fantastic (as always for ES games), graphics are better and mind blowing with mods enabled. Dialogue isn't the greatest but is still an improvement over past games. Quests are mixed - I would say this is one area where the series didn't really improve, but they're still good and some of them (e.g., Thieve's Guild) are a lot of fun.

The lore of the game, as always, is enchanting. I love reading all of the books, some of them are so well-written, clever and adventurous.

Skyrim has everything you could want in a single-player RPG. Open world, exploration, immersion, beauty, roleplaying potential, fun combat (mostly), customization, some clever quest subplots, great lore, the list goes on. Truly a magical game that will probably never be matched, until ES:6 comes out.

I did run into some technical issues early on (flickering water, shadows, textures), but they seem to have been fixed mostly by now, and Nvidia has released new drivers which increase performance. For example in oblivion you felt important and there was a real sense of urgency in what you had to do within the game, skyrim was missing this piece of magic. I also felt the levelling system was dummed down and extremely disappointing compared to previous elder scroll games.

The AI is better, but can still be pretty stupid at times. You can steal from shops just by placing buckets over people's heads. Enemies struck with arrows will say "It's just my imagination" after trying to find you for 8 seconds. The PC version is stuck with permanent vertical sync, so enjoy having your mouse movements delayed. Turning off vertical sync via graphics card options will break the game. Gameplay is riveting and eats away at your sleeping time; it's so hard to pull yourself away from, you won't want to go to bed! This game offers months of engrossing gameplay which is hard to fault. My only criticisms are cosmetic. It has console style graphics, although the PC version is much better to look at on high end machines. It would have been so much more stunning to look at if it had the graphics of something like Battlefield 3, but the graphics do still impress with it's weather effects like the snow as you get higher up mountains and in colder areas of the environment. The little touches like the rabbits, goats and other wildlife which run off as you and the various enemies approach them, really give the feel of a living and breathing world. Also, the characters faces, which are a big improvement over the ones seen in Oblivion, are still a long way off from those seen in the likes of LA Noir for example. Still, this is a must have game for anybody into video games and even if you don't normally like RPG's, this still won't fail to impress. A stunning achievement from Bethesda and I for one can't wait to see where they go from here. Although a sequel is a long way off, the DLC will be hotly anticipated and much sought after, as will the best of the many user made mods which have already started appearing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Primary reason why people are giving low scores is cause of bugs. EVERY game has bugs in the beginning they have already made huge progress on dealing with them. To be honest I never encountered ANY bugs that broke my experience or the game and I have put 180+ hours... (I know ridiculous) Only bugs I generally see are a few quests that didn't work but non were important to the games progression. The other bugs were with clipping like me shooting a body half into something which is is hilarious anyway.

Some people have the nerve to talk about the physics being bad really? First game I ever seen with rivers that have force waterfalls that push arrows that feel reasonable (Not bang on but not to far off) Not to mention.

People also complain about NPC's being repetitive. How many things do you expect them to program into the NPC's to say my god they can't spend years recording endless "useless banter" I am glad they put some in to give the characters some life but let's be honest would you want them to waste years of time and tons of game space just so you can hear endless amounts of pointless conversation I mean seriously that be ridiculous.

Next point is people going on and on about "filler" quests there are a handful of repeat quests but the strong majority (at least 90+ hours of my play time worth) were all unique quests with unique characters in unique environment that if you pay attention can be quite captivating. Heck I remember recently walking into a random dungeon for no reason all of a sudden I am involved in some tragic necromancers war and he's using an enslaved Jarl as a lackey I thought that was neat for just a random nothing dungeon.

Gear? Really people these days want WoW type gear systems were ever they go. I can't stand random gear systems it just means you have to spend more time looking for gear that enjoying the game. Elder scrolls gear systems are more in tune with a gun game were you put some effort into getting the look/feel you like but that just enjoy the game and not have to concern with it.
If I am going to chop something's head of with an axe I will admit having a cool axe is nice but I don't see a point in having 10 cool axes non of which have exactly the stats I want. Instead I prefer to make my favourite axe put the enchants that reflect my play style (soul capture and life steal) and let me go. Although I use a bow not an axe but you get the point.

Honestly best game I have ever played for any genre main reason for that? Because it was a full game! I put ridiculous hours into this a single player and still have stuff that needs doing (I have not even touched the repeat stuff) I am so SICK of games coming out and a week later downloadable content because it's a business. At least Bethesda tries to make money but not at the expense of putting cut up products to make that money.

The way you level up is one of the biggest flaws I've found in the game. I get that they were trying to be unique and innovative, but it just doesn't work. You gain experience for your skills by using the thing associated it. For instance, you get levels in your One handed weapon skill tree by dealing damage with one handed weapons. Each time you level up with a skill, you get a little experience on the main counter. When this main counter fills, your character gains a level. This encourages you to use many different weapons and strategies but it's just not accurate nor fun. I've seen the game constantly described as "Story Rich" and as a fan of a good story, i was excited to try it out. Unfortunately the story and the story telling is just bad. There is absolutely nothing to get interested in and you won't care about the life of any of the NPCs at all (Other than your spouse and any adopted kids). There is also an insane amount of bugs and glitches still present in the game over 2 years later. It's a great game for RPG fans and medieval fans alike. Just don't expect the perfect game. Expand

I almost can't describe the feeling - the game you imagined when you were 12 years old every time you looked at the back of the box, and then were disappointed to realize was an illusion once you actually installed the software? Skyrim is that game I imagined. In my opinion it's the realization of the promise the Elder Scrolls series has always had but fell short of.

It manages to balance a lot of things perfectly: in depth character creation without the ability to inadvertently handicap yourself, excellent graphics at release but which aren't too hardware intensive, a vast world with lots to do, but never lets the player fall into a deadzone of not having an objective, a diverse selection of gameplay styles, all of them being satisfactory out of the box... again it sounds like hyperbole, but this game really kind of does it all.

And that's the release - add to that the fact that it has one of the largest and most active modding communities of any game, not to mention is stable like a ROCK with 50 mods running... I mean damn. It's hard to find a fault. This game richly deserves its almost universal positive reviews from users and critics alike.

Bethesda really, really outdid themselves on this game and I'm glad they put so much effort in this, especially after collecting so many fans of the TES series. After the fantastic Morrowind and Oblivion, I seriously didn't expect something extremely new or special about this game, and feared that it might be ruined like all the other newer games.
Instead, they surprised me with a completely fresh title. The beginning of the game was slightly confusing, but I guess it's kinda standard for the TES games to begin with you being some kind of a unlucky prisoner, freed by an unexpected event soon after. The engine seems to be polished and upgraded to it's best, during nearly 60 hours of game-play I haven't noticed a single bug or an unusual thing that hindered my further progress. The only thing that CAN get annoying from time to time is the battle music that tends to get stuck here and there, requiring a complete restart of the game in order to be cleared up.

The graphics are completely solid and acceptable for this kind of a game, tho I must admit I was a little disappointed on how it all looks. I was expecting Bethesda to be more serious and step out of the "make a game for Xbox360, port it to PC quickly" pattern, but that wasn't the case here. The graphics are just slightly improved in comparison to the console versions, but I don't understand why the devs simply didn't put more effort in this masterpiece and made graphics better, more appealing and up-to-date with all the things graphic cards can render these days. This automatically draws the question concerning system specifications..they do seem pretty strange, especially the requirements for Ultra settings. Six years old graphics just shouldn't lag on high end computers.
One more disappointing thing, which I've hoped to be gone in the PC version, is the useless, weird inventory, which is completely out of place since we don't get to compare items without scrolling all the way down, then all the way up to the second item. At least they put in the Favorites quick menu.

Game-play is vastly improved, especially the leveling part which was pulled off horribly in the previous TES game, which required you to level only the main professions/skills you picked, in order to progress in-game. This time, we get leveling for each skill equally, allowing us to both level and choose various perks and "talents" which help us further our favorite skills and have additional bonuses when performing those.

I don't want to type anymore, because the text so far pretty much explains why you should at least try this epic title. It might seem a bit expensive for now, but I'd say it's definitely worth your money and time.

That being said, I loved this game. I enjoy these types of games so it didn't come as a big surprise to me when I spent almost an entire month playing it. The reason why this is getting an 9 instead of a glorious 10 is because of the main story, and the many bugs I encountered during several playthroughs. I really enjoyed the story, but it felt like some of the guild quests lasted longer than the main quest line. I felt a bit... disappointed at how they ended it, and was grateful I spent the majority of my time exploring the world, finishing all guild quest chains, and 200+ miscellaneous quests before deciding to finish the main story. There were several bugs that I encountered during my time playing Skyrim. I had thought it was a user error, but many of my friends had problems with their playthrough as well. It's not difficult to ignore, but it certainly is a nuisance to deal with. The environments were amazing, and the OST for this game was so good I didn't turn off the in-game music for my own. The controls weren't bad enough for me to lower the score even more. It was actually very easy to get used to and in the end, felt very comfortable to use. All things considered, this game was very enjoyable to play, and for a game as huge as this, I wasn't expecting it to be flaw-free, but that doesn't mean I should give it a free 10 either. If you enjoy RPG's, get this game. It's definitely a contender for GOTY, I don't care what anyone says. Also, Pro-tip: Even if you find yourself stressing for cash I advise against using any NPC/Profession exploiting. Most of them are game breaking, and I found it was much more enjoyable to play it out instead of cheating the system. :) Expand

The main quest line is very fun and once your about 10 quest from completing, you will not want to exit the game until you've completed it. The different guilds are much more fun now since there's a story instead of just climbing the ranks. The skill system is the same, use the skill to level it and level enough skills, you level up overall. Now there's perks to the skills, which i thought was going to be like the perks in Fallout (which i really didn't like) but they're pretty good, they're really about making that ability more powerful/useful. Now the dragons. They're all around Skyrim and they're really menacing no matter your level and extremely satisfying to take down. Also the new shouts are a good addition to the game. find a word wall, learn part of a shout, find a dragon, kill the dragon, absorb the soul, use it to unlock the word and use your shouts. I can keep going, this is my game of the year, and you should experience it. Expand

Things i liked: Graphics look very good even on lower settings. Enough quests to keep you busy. Lots of choices as far as builds go, regardless of what class you play. No more worry about "How many points to Strength, how many to this, how many to that?" choices, since the game takes care of that MASSIVE headache for you. Marriage is very interesting, creating a daily source of gold as well as a 24-hour, buy-anything store at your disposal, which proves to be VERY valuable when you want to sell stuff at 2am in-game.

Things i didn't like: Lockpicking on PC is VERY tricky, as the mouse can be very touchy. You almost got the pick in the right spot, move the mouse just a little bit, you're on the other side of the lock now, far away from where you wanted to be. Game can feel a little repetitive after a while, especially if you don't care about storylines. Fighting with bows can be frustrating sometimes, as the arrow doesn't always go where the crosshairs are, especially if you're close to a short wall you're using for cover. You may end up shooting that wall instead of the bandit shooting at you.

All things considered, i'm definitely happy with this game, and would recommend it to anyone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyrim is a great game at first, but this first look makes a big impression. The story lines were very dramatic and exciting. But after playing the game a while you get bored as the dungeons are repetitive and possibly were chosen from a random generator, as everything seems the same. The game is one of those "gets boring after a while" games. Not only that, but I did not like the AI of NPCs and enemies. Dragons get to be very easy. But if you are committed and play it well, it can reward you with a good experience. The graphics were pristine. The controls were comfortable and easily adaptable. The PC commands provide a steady flow of entertainment, and that's what I think makes this game best on PC. Expand

Big world, lots of quests, heavy customization. The DLCs holes are bad though, the lack of an arena and unimportant towns makes you wish why exactly they done that.
Most dungeons gets quite repetitive after a while Bandits/Falmer/Dwemer/Rogue Mages/Draugr and you have more than 60% of all dungeons in the game. Unbalanced skills like Smithing & Enchanting kills part of the joy when replaying the game.
It really feels boring to build a character that you -know- will be weaker than a previously played one. The Master dificulty could be a bit harder. The console is better than ever. It is a great game for anyone that likes the previous Elder Scroll titles, the new interface will take some time getting used to, but you'll see how it's really faster and efficient than Oblivion's one.
No doubt, one of the best games in the last years, and probably will keep the title for some more.

Honestly, when I preordered Skyrim, I was a little scared. After the huge disappointment I had from Dragon Age 2, I didn't know what to expect. All I knew was that I was crossing my fingers and hoping for a good rpg experience. Also, I had enjoyed Oblivion so much that I was unsure how the next game (Skyrim) would live up to my expectations. To my surprise, Skyrim was not good - it was excellent!

Right out of the gate, the sheer amount of options I had to create my character were awe-inspiring. Beyond that point, I was still given plenty of options to make believe I was part of the game world. As someone who also plays tabletop rpgs such as GURPS, verisimilitude is something which is very important to me. Another thing which is important to me is making options feel like real options; what I mean by that is making different options be actually viable, and not having one option be the right answer all the time. Skyrim performs excellently here.

I am not without my complaints though, and there are two main things which bother me...

The first is not being able to fight from horseback. I'd love to invest in a steed, but it's often more problem than benefit. I am sure I am not the only one who has been attacked while riding, and then had to be beat upon while waiting for the dismount animation to be finished. That bothers me.

The second is that I wish the war felt more like a war. I am more than likely in the minority here on this one, but I would have liked being in command of troops for a few battles, and feeling as though I had to use strategy and tactics to engage in a battle and win. I would have enjoyed a strategic element being involved more with the war.

On the topic of complaints, one of the reasons I love Skyrim so much is because Skyrim fixed many of the primary complaints I had about Oblivion. Those being that I could not give better equipment to followers, and that the level up system was sometimes a little clunky. The level system in Skyrim is a vast improvement over Oblivion. Skyrim is a great rpg experience. The best thing about it is that it is only the beginning. It is the first of TES games made using a new engine; I fully expect future installments to continue to improve. I can hardly wait for the next game in the series.

This game is one of the best games I've ever played. It stands right beside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Gorgeous environment, varied environments, detailed environments. Be who you want and play with complete freedom. In this game, you can pick the wings of a butterfly, use the wing to create a potion, use the potion to kill an enemy, raise the enemy from the dead to fight for you, kill the poor thing again, loot it and then store that loot on a shelf in your house next to hundreds of actual books of lore. This game is enormous, and there are so many quests it boggles your mind. Literally. I'm nowhere near done a first playthrough, yet I'm over 230 into the game and savoring every second. What is amazing is how much content is so truly interesting.

The musical score is superb and may be the best ever in a video game. Levelling is well balanced, its fun to level up, statistics are solid, and Fallout 3's perk system got expanded and solidified. There are tons of things to do, when you aren't arranging your house(s), shopping or reading. Legends, mysteries, secrets, ancient artifacts, deadly myths, powerful enemies, and dragons. Set to the backdrop of a civil war. Looting is outstanding, as is crafting. Inventory and general UI is efficient and clean. Writing is much, much improved, as is lore in general. Bethesda doesn't belittle previous lore, but only reinforces it. There is so much I'm this game I can't begin to cover even a small percentage. But it is a masterpiece. Truly, seriously, a masterpiece. I highly recommend it, and if you're overwhelmed by its size, do the main quest, a faction questline and a few side quests, and it should clock you in at around 70 hours. The few issues I had are minute compared to its greatness. Bugs occur and crashes occur, as to be expected with such a truly massive game. And dungeons can be and are fairly linear. No big deal, compared to everything else.

Thks game is a 10/10. Buy it and play it! And good job, Bethesda!

The major beef everyone has with the game are the bugs, and that displeases me too, but now that it is patched, I have no complaints, except that the High Res Textures stutter, but I know that will get fixed as the AMD graphics driver is updated. None-the-less, its whopping success is, for the greatest part, due to the winning comparison with the past two games of the series. The main quest, along with the well-designed guild quests, finally gives the player a good reason to play through the game in its entirety. The graphics, although very good on their own, are clearly a major overhaul of Oblivion's graphic engine, while the game's world is literally filled with beauty and ancient Norse lore, as it offers magnificent landscapes and a nice blend of towns, fortresses, burial sites and, for the first time, well-characterized dungeons scattered throughout Skyrim. The music score fits in well, while the general voiceover is not really something that will be remembered, even though with some exceptions. Besides, the attention shall now be paid to the cons of Skyrim. In the long run, most of the radiant quests encountered in the game turn out to be relatively shallow and menial, having your character (as for guild quests) become the chief of all of them after a bare set of three or four tasks. The feeling you'll have is that of a wondrous world partly filled with tacky quests and with a barren replayability factor; in addition, the perks are mostly useless, being a blatant old fashioned rpg facade with no real impact on the gameplay. In spite of these major quirks, however, the game works quite well, provided you are into the realm of fantasy lore. The Elder Scrolls always top their previous game, always. People love to hold onto the classics such as Morrowind or Daggerfall, and I can understand that, they were awesome. But at some point they should try something new, and not require it to be the same thing as the old game. Things must change, if they don't people WILL complain. That aside Skyrim is huge.

That aside Skyrim is huge. It takes a long time to actually complete all of the quests and find all the amazing locations with amazing items, and unfortunately casual gamers will play the game for a couple hours and think they finished all the interesting content and not fully explore the whole game to their own detriment. This game is an investment, fun comes with time invested.

This game has a ton of bugs, every elder scrolls has a butt load. However I have never minded them. This game is so HUGE that it would be impossible to get rid of all of them. The bugs are very welcome compared to the rest of the game. Also Bethesda is pretty good at trying to fix them in an appropriate fashion. I highly recommend the PC version with the creation kit you can download mods that will help change the game to the way you prefer and even add more content. Once the Navmesh bug is fixed (it is being worked on) which prevents movement of NPC'S in modded land, the mods that come out will be extraordinary. Bethesda is very invested into Skyrim, they have been rolling out patches and even added NEW content in the last one. They added Archery and Magic kill cams, small but nice, I love the idea of adding new features to the game just because. With DLC, New Features in patches, and the awesome modding community this game will last a very long time. 9/10= Very Awesome, a lot of bugs, but they are being fixed.

The leveling and skill system is great, and gives you a lot of room to make adjustments to your character. This game also has a massive modding community, so whether you are looking for graphical enhancements, new worlds to explore, or your own personal army, you are almost surely going to find something that suits your need. Skyrim is a must buy for anyone who can appreciate a great game! Be warned, though, once you enter Skyrim, you may never want to leave... Expand

One of the Epic Greats of Gaming History. A true offspring of the Elder Scrolls universe becaues it is a work of gaming art that continues a legacy. Ignore the people who say this game is short, any game is short to a "grinder" type. This game hours of fun, adventure, combat, quests and damn well thought out sub plots and main plot. Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.

Skyrim is definitely one of the best games of 2011, but if the DLC holds out, it might just be one of the best games of 2012 as well.

Skyrim is the best open world RPG you can get. A true evolution of genre is not flawless but still it is the game you love to live in. [Christmas 2011]
