Very bad, bought a ingame horse and it said I would receive ingame mail with instructions to get it. 2 hours later still waiting. When you contact customer support you get walled with standard responses without someone actually reading what u typed.

This left a very bad taste

This is a very good game, perhaps a 10, but you should buy it in about three months or so (lets say around July 2014). The frequent maintenance make it frustrating to play as instead you sit around and refresh the support page to find out when would it possible for you to actually play the game. in the past week the game went down several times and for hours each time.

so far Bethesda has not offered any compensation to subscribers, stating only "we are sorry, we are new"... well, that is simply not good enough, I paid money, I want to play, if your product is not good enough, don't ask me to buy it.

The game itself is vast, addictive, with very few problems (The inability to change skill points except later in the game and for a stiff price is one huge flaw which I guess will be fixed at some point).

I am giving ESO a 5 out of 10 because it has a potential. The crafting for once is a useful thing, I wish it was in more MMOs, the storyline is great and the quests are interesting. The problem with it is the clunky interface, horrible animations and sadly just terrible gameplay. I wish I spent the money on Wildstar instead, it's in beta but it's so much better.

Probably the second best MMO ever made, after Dark Age of Camelot.

Obviously there's a little campaign going in certain circles to write negative reviews with no substance to them. Ignore that nonsense, if you're going to pay a subscription fee, spend it on this... not that other out-of-date, cartoony - PvP-less game.

As a long time Elder Scrolls fan, I was very skeptical when ESO was first announced. But Zenimax/Bethesda has pulled of a very enjoyable balance of both the Elder Scrolls world and an engaging MMO.

I have played many MMOs (Neverwinter, Rift, Allod's Online, Tera, LOTRO, FF11, Vindictus, EverQuest II and more...) By far, ESO is my favorite. It is a world I simply enjoy existing in, and for me that is key.

Below are some of the many things I love about ESO (keeping in mind that I favor PvE and exploration):

    - A beautiful and detailed world with so many little secrets to discover. I have noticed some people complain that the game is not one big open world, but that is because they don't understand that MMOs can't work like that. With so many players running around, the fps would be crippled. And it doesn't matter anyway. Each region has so much to offer. Besides, getting to the next area is a loadscreen away. And with the level of detail they have put into each region, I am sure that we can look forward to future expansions with as much handcrafted care.

    - Complex multi-step quests and slow leveling. Just like in The Elder Scrolls single player.

    - The water: Beautiful clear water. I love riding my horse along the beaches, and splashing through the shallows. :)

    - Exploring beaches: The beaches are just beautiful and there are chests and secrets to be found.

    - Treasure Maps! (Much like the kind in Red Dead Redemption.)

    - Molag Bal's Anchors: Awesome.

    - Casual "party" system: As a generally solo gamer, I love that boss kills can be shared with those you aren't grouped with.

    - Crafting: Very different from other MMOs and actually useful.

    - Skill system: It is fairly simplistic seeming at first, but there is a great deal of potential in how you can develop your character's skills, as you progress.

    - Full character voice acting.

    - Lore! Books and notes to discover everywhere.

    - Skyshards: Fun to discover, and every three give you a an extra skill point to spend.

    - Thunderstorms: I wandered into an area where it was still sunny but starting to rain a little. And then the sky darkened and thunder began to rumble and the rain poured down. Lovely and atmospheric.

The game is not perfect. It has it's bugs and animations can be awkward at times. But these barely scratch the surface of my experience. This is a world I really enjoy spending time in, and there is so much to do and see and discover. :)

I'm not sure who they're catering to, but it isn't people who loved Skyrim.

We already have mmos that cater to PvP, to raids - and I found *nothing* in ESO that offers something new, improved or unique. It's a step back in many ways - shared nodes, cooperative play, character personal story. After trying this, I cycled back through the old mmos I'd played, & depending on your taste, each one offers something unavailable in ESO.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If yo. Have enjoyed any elder scrolls games and mmo games this is the perfect game for you! For me, this is the first MMO game I have played and I am really looking forward to playing again. I havent played it since the beta and this is because the sub fee was a little too expensive, I am buying the imperial edition for my birthday on the 12th. I remember the game being great. It overwhelmed me when I took my first steps in the game. The first thing you see is the character creation menu and you can go really in depth about your character. Just like any elder scrolls game you start in a prison.

Here's the over all rating for ME personally: TESO is a really great game and I definitely recommend it. If I had to give it a rating I will give it a number of around 9/10. On the downside there are some glitches and bugs which is to be expected in a game so new and populated, the game was amazing when I played it and I think it will be way better today.
P.S: Frame rates WILL drop in the towns and cities where more people are, just like any other MMO

The games quest are far more interesting and it all feels like its part of one huge story like a single player game which is really well done. The leveling and customization is a huge improvement there so many choices and option to choose from to create the character you want.
The graphics are great very clear and beautiful at times it makes you want to explore the world and hunt don all the shards.
My biggest problem is the map system it can be confusing knowing where to go the compass worked fine in Skyrim but not here they should implement a mini map.
Combat has some really good idea but only 5 skills at a time is lame it need to be 8-10 and it needs refining id prefer auto attacks once you engage in combat rather than mouse clicks.

The game has huge potential it feels like it released a little to early the over all quality is far better than WOW it just needs some polish I think the foundations are but its just of the mark at the moment still it could very soon become the best MMO out there but there some work to do much better than SWTOR and GW2.

Pretty-ok single player experience with a ton of bugs. The quests are by far the most interesting of all theme-parks. The UI and chat are both awful, but there are mods out and mods to come. There is no auction, which can be good or bad depending on the player; but this is my review and in my opinion, it sucks. Quests involve you running around killing people/monsters, clicking on things, watching brief events unfold, then returning to the NPC; and usually climax with you entering a cave or a dungeon. When you enter the dungeon or cave(quest or solo dungeon), everyone else in the world is also entering, so when you get to the boss at the end, you're likely to find him dead with 30 people waiting for him to re-spawn. Grouping is horrible, everything is phased; you must be in the same part of the quest progression as everyone else, people get separated, bugged-out, yada yada yada. The quest lines can reward you with skill-points which I actually think sucks (more on that below). There are also collectible skyshards that give you skill points located on every map (which I think is awesome). The group dungeons are fun, but the veteran dungeons are really where it's at. The adventure zone is not out yet, so I cannot comment on the trials, but the 12 man will probably make the game a bit better. Cyrodiil is easily the best part about the game, but they nerfed the XP, and like I said above, quests give you skill-points, so leveling in Cyrodiil is just not in the cards. This is my biggest gripe about the game and ultimately why I won't play it until it's changed. The quests are cool but when they become the only way to level (and gain additional skillpoints), they become extremely boring and feel repetitive. Some TESO honeymooners will argue that they don't become boring or repetitive, because the lore is good; but this is my review, and I say it becomes boring and repetitive. The other good part about the game are the classes. You can mix and match and level different crafting/guilds/armor to obtain different spells/attacks, and bonuses. Overall it is a pretty good game, with a terrible grouping mechanism, and super lame forced questing. What can I say? If you're a PvP person, this game would've been for you if they hadn't nerfed the xp. Expand

It is beautifully designed and the new 12 player team modes are supper cool and make the game much more dynamic. Not higher than an 8/10 because they should have taken a bit more time to make the release bug free. If you like Skyrim you'll probably like ESO.

NOW, if you notice all the people giving this great game a 0 which immediately discredits their opinions, and if you read what they say there are 3 kinds of naysayers:

    1. I HATE THIS GAME BECAUSE I WANNA REACH THE END FAST! Cries one guy here, he complains that it takes to long to level, and sometimes quests have multiple steps OH NOES! That's horrible, you actually have to PLAY THE GAME. I feel your pain, you just want to reach cap level in 2 days and if you could skip the whole game you would, well, maybe you should!
This game as many, is supposed to be played for the pleasure of enjoying it and discovering, not to skip your way thru a speed run to the end, it is all about Story immersion and discovery.
Oh and lets not forget the followup QQ, there is no endgame content! Boohoo!
The content as is is humongous and you were complaining about the leveling being to slow, so you did ever trick in the book to boost your XP and skip every story and conversation, so you can reach the game's end in a week and be some sort of oily haired hero sitting in his room and boasting to people you will never meet how awesome you are, then comes the realization that hey there is nothing to do now. Idiotic companies, they should hire a team the size of a country to make so much content that even you can swallow even if it costs a billion dollars and although you wont even see 1% of it because you'll be in a competition with your invisible friend to reach the finish line. you should play a racing game if that's your goal, he who complains about no endgame this early after release is no meant to play MMORPGs because his brain cannot possibly understand what its about. You know that when u see these words, its someone at the rock bottom of ignorance on the other side of the monitor.

    2. I HATE THIS GAME BECAUSE THERE ARE BUGSSSSS THEREFORE ITS THE WORST GAME EVER MADE ZERO!! Yeah an mmo with bugs at release, we should sue them for insulting us. its not like its an immense game with millions of quests npc conversations players intertwined. IT should work flawlessly form day one. That's a great argument! Because all other MMOs came out flawless! Its true what they say that people forget all the bad experiences and remember only the good. Makes for Nice survival instinct but horrible gaming opinions.

I HATE THIS GAME BECAUSE ITS NOT SKYRIM OR NOT WORLD OF WARCRAFT! Well, Skyrim is a diffent game and a single player one, you want to show us how to make a SP game in an MMO word that feels the same and has the same choice/consequence system, that's a billion dollar idea, now all you have to do is unglue your ass form that poor chair and go create that game. Until then, treat them as separate games and great ones. Close your eyes, hold your breath, and separate the two in your mind.
As for WoW its still there last time i checked, so.. no need to rage, save your money and invest in a panda, don't even bother with other games, ever. WoW is the best there is so why you even bother? and bother the rest of us. You are scared and annoyed by new concepts you dont understand them, its outside of your comfort zone, you wanna keep your same keyboard mapping, you are so brave and adventurous. Solution as mentioned above, take a chill pill and stay where u are. Dont move! you might get uncomfortable with progress. Order your cheese burger the new expansion is right around the corner.

This game is great, its fun, it's entertaining, it oozes quality and its immerse. Sure it has issues but that's more than normal at this stage. The people that fall in the above group use those same excuses every game they play, because the problem isn't in the games, the problems are in their lives and heads.

Rather than increasing skills and abilities in comparison to other players, by pracitising those skills in the game, some things can simply be bought with real money, stamina, a nice horse, etc. with literal cash you use to buy these things - not in game cash you earn by playing the game. For me this reduces ESO significantly. Though it is still enjoyable and open world, another Skyrim but with a larger world.

I have never understood why 'free to play' or as it is more accurately called 'free to pay' is so popular. A subscription based game enables a true even playing field whereas allowing people to buy elements that affect gameplay compromises the core of what makes an RPG enjoyable.

The game looks absolutely stunning, matching the tradition of open world graphics being a key feature of the franchise, but in an MMO environment. The amount of content is huge, both in terms of land and quests and dungeon delves, as well as with surrounding content from NPC’s and books. If you’re a fan of the lore in the series you’ll definitely enjoy the appearance of many famous characters and plot turns.

Audio is wonderful, and I’m frankly amazed at how the team continues to improve audio by adding many more sounds and environmental music. Like WoW before it, the little touches really add up. As an example, casting a defensive shell around your player in combat actually muffles and changes the sounds coming through that magic shield to you. Also, tons of quest text is covered with voice overs.

The combat is ESO is more visceral than I am used to in MMO’s. Moving from DAoC, to WoW, to CoH and other MMO’s has steadily ramped up the notion of real-time combat engagement that doesn’t feel restrained by client server communication. In ESO, melee classes and casting classes alike need to move around, and they can block and interrupt spells. The tactile game feedback with a subtle UI is well done.

Probably the most distinctive “feature” of ESO is it’s openness to character creation. You really do have a viable road to cultivating a unique customized character that can break away from cookie cutter MMO personas (heavy armor tank, cloth only casters, etc.). You have the tools to mix and match spells, armor, weapons and engagement techniques in a very flexible way. And it works, just like in the solo games.

As a type of player, I’m an “explorer”, freakish in how I like to go everywhere, do everything, and eat up all the content. I play a large number of characters; I hoard recipes and do a bunch of crafting, and I create an “ecosystem” amongst them. I collect tons of stuff, read all of the books, and open way too many containers. I look behind waterfalls, and I climb cliffs to reach chests. In ESO, I am well rewarded.

Like Rift, ESO lets you easily form up without requiring grouping for some world content (i.e. overcoming “anchors” and waves of mobs). The game adds in open dungeon delves where characters easily work together to overcome challenges without having to group. But for content requiring groups, the UI is clunky and hurtful. ESO is still struggling to find a refined set of grouping tools vs. UI vs. content.

I haven’t experienced the PvP yet, but from my friends that are very strong in this area of MMO gaming, the feedback has been quite good. My assumption is that some of the grouping issues in the main world plague the ease of use in PvP, but I rarely hear about it, and that’s conjecture on my part. I am looking forward to the longer term “campaigns” that go on for days, but am still focusing time outside of PvP.

If you’re looking for a beautiful MMO that has a lot to offer and a team that is clearly continuing to invest a ton of development and content work into making the game better and better, ESO is a great place to be. I’ve spent a ton of time in MMO’s over the years, and for me, ESO is a keeper. Great fun.

And this game recaptures some of the same awe I had when I first realized online gaming was a thing.
I suspect that due to skyrims popularity there will be some first time mmo'ers so I'm trying to keep that in mind as I write this review.
The first thing I noticed were the graphics: very high quality visuals with all the wonder of the nirn you've seen before but with new areas to explore and new wonders to discover. The lighting effects and shadows are nothing short of breathtaking. I literally gasped the first time I saw a sunshaft coming through a broken window.
Combat is done amazingly well. I play a tank and the feeling you get the first time you successfully bash an npc out of a heavy attack and then knock them down with one of your own, that's just rewarding. Far superior to the auto attack system used in other games.
Leveling up is a lot of fun too with quests that engage you in the world and present you with decisions that effect the world around you. And I'm not talking in just the immediate sense of "throw this bucket of water and that fire goes out" although that is present, I'm talking in the "you find out this quest giver is a traitor to her people, should she be given an opportunity at redemption, or be exiled or executed, and the choice you make doesn't just effect the end of that quest but it effects all the interactions you have with that tribe or city afterward .
This game is truly the best mmo on the market and I could talk about it indefinitely.
    I'm giving it a perfect 10.

It's an okay single player RPG one moment, then an okay MMO the next. Which all in all makes for a mediocre game. For a title boasting the name of elder scrolls, a franchise known for setting the pace in the RPG genre, this one falls short of its predecessors, both in elder scrolls, and in MMO's.

Lots of players XP grind their way to Vet 12 in about a week killing fast spawning bosses in groups. Due to the level out of Levels and a groups organized tactics, players can still put a hurting on the competition despite superior numbers against them... It has made PvP a bit more of a Guerrilla style of combat. PvP is now incredible. But, expect to have to use Voice Coms to get into the Successful Groups in PvP; at the very least expect to have Teamspeak to Listen to the battle plan. Otherwise you will be the first one kicked from these groups no matter where you go; it's a mutual need for all raid leaders in game to fill the entire group with Teamspeak players. One player who doesn't know what is going on in Teamspeak can get an entire group killed.

There is still a lot of lagging issues within the game; All 3 factions effectively broke the Wabbajack Server for a day.; but it will improve once the Devs work out all of the bugs they created with the new expansion. Also, if PvP is something that excites you, then this game is just for you. But be warned, every class has the ability to win just by getting off the first shot; unless you are a tank. Tanks can be a nightmare in this game too; they are definitely not weak in the realm of DPS. Sorcerers can still shred a tank if the tank ignores them...

I'd rate the bugginess of this game as almost on par with how bad Vanguard and Age of Conan were at release. They really should do what the Final Fantasy XIV people did and re-release the game after making it playable.

And then of course there's all the cut corners in development: No character nameplates. Limited UI. Mobs and bosses don't scale in toughness so nothing is a challenge when you're grouped. Forced solo instances for progression that only certain builds can complete. It's like the game designers treated this like all their single player games and said lets release some alpha build of the game and rely on the player base to write patches and UI mods to make it playable - the only thing being this is an MMO and unlike their previous single player games that had such a huge modding community, the gamers can't just fix what the developers have screwed up.

I want to love this game based purely on the quest designs and the visuals, but it's hard to with all the rest of the issues. I think I'll wait till this goes free-to-play and for the bugs to get fixed and check it out again in a few months.

I'm a little biased because I've been playing The Elders Srolls 3 : Morrowind for years, and ESO seems to capture this atmospheric ambience I couldn't find in any other game. Bethesda/Zenimax seems to have adressed the complaints that were made by fans when Oblivion and Skyrim came out :

    - Oblivion and Skyrim had their gameplay oversimplified to appeal to a wider audience. ESO on the other hand has even deeper and more complex game mechanics than Morrowind.
    - ESO has open cities : no more loadscreen between wilderness and city or village. This makes a huge difference. It even has open houses that didn't even exist in Morrowind.
    - Possibilities of fast travelling have been greatly reduced : this forces you to take walking distances into account when you decide what to do next.
    - Separated armor slots for pauldrons and belts
    - Morrowind-style fog : you don't see the landscape very well beyond a certain distance. This increases the impression of distance when going from one place to the other. That with a nice DoF shader effect gives very impressive and mysterious distance effects.
    - Giant mushrooms, floating netches, guars, distorted trees that looks just like the ones from Morrowind.
    - Also absent in Oblivion/Skyrim : Mage and Fighter Guilds !
    - For character creation, you don't have as many face sliders compared to Skyrim but you get now bodysliders (shoulders, chest, gut, waist, hips, legs) !
    - No more console-oriented user interface, ESO was designed for PC interface.

I play ESO as a single player RPG experience, but I find it nice to have other players around even if I don't talkt to them. That might change in the future, I'm new to MMO's. This MMO thing has some disadvantages regarding item management (you cannot store items in a barrel, you need to use the bank, etc.) but that's not too bad.

All in all I see this game as a real Elder Scrolls game with great visuals, updated combat system (which is really great) and multiplayer options.

Please note I've been playing ESO for 2 weeks, up to 10 hours every day. That makes around 140 hours. In Morrowind, 140 hours brings you to 1/3 of the game's content, in Oblivion you see more than 100% of the game in 140 hours. In Skyrim I would say 140 hours makes 70% of the games content. In ESO, I think I've seen 15% of the game : I've made 2 breton characters up to level 13, I've explored the breton starting map twice (Glenumbra + 2 small attended islands) and that's all. There a 6 or 7 other maps of this size, not counting the PvP elements. ESO is incredibly huge in terms of size and content.

If you're a long time fan of the series, you have to play this game. I dont understand the bad reviews it got. Maybe the game has changed a lot since its release.

The graphics and sounds are clearly last gen! The voice acting, animations,
story and plot are not worthy of being tied to the Elder Scrolls name and let's
not forget the really bad community, half of which are not true ES fans but MMO
fan boys and math nerds that care only for stats, numbers and the best gear, not
story and content and lore which should be priority. Oh, and another thing with these
MMO **** is their obsession with breaking the lore with their suggesting of dragon

I feel sorry for Bethesda, honestly... I can't imagine what's going through their minds as
ZOS (the parent company) does some squats and sh!ts all over the lore.

The sad reality is that this could very well be the end of the Elder Scrolls franchise. I can't

So if you are the progress player type that grinds up his character as quickly as possible to the "endgame" and then expects to have fun in Raids and instanced pvp battlefields, this is not the game for you. Like "The Secret World" this is a game you actually should play like an RPG. If you expect a Skyrim, don't play it as well - It is NOT Skyrim.

    Negative:
    - The day 1 bot invasion, cheating and hacking, a nearly crashed economy, goldsellers and massive abuse of game systems - though to be honest they seem to get some of these problems solved.
    - Whoever designed this inventory - clutter - collection - nightmare which forces me to cycle through an inventory management tour every 10 minutes of gameplay should be forced to play it himself for a week - as it would seem he hasn't really played it for even 10 minutes. YES it is cool to find something in every drawer - NO it is not cool to have garbage like "foul hide" in x levels taking away an inventory slot each! And why for gods sake do glyphs not stack? And every other game has started to put useless trophies and stuff in seperate inventories... but no ... and so on, and so forth, in short, the inventory is a nightmare.
    - The lag - Yessss, I clearly avoided the red circle on the ground. oops, no I still was hit because of... LAG! Combat can become annoying at some point, you really have to "plan" blocking etc., any last second tries will probably end in the lag ignoring your effort. How they expect this system to work with console player wh
    - The game does not provide a MMO experience as you would expect an MMO
    - Not sure I like the endgame - there does not seem to be really so much to do apart from getting to veteran rank 12 and level all the crafting and stuff.
    - UI - you have to get some mods which help you read the battle or you will miss whats going on...
    - Crappy UI for features like guild auction house etc.

    Positive:
    - Although a lot of my predecessor writers have complained about the shallowness of the story and the NOT being Skyrim, I think they actually did a very solid job. Yes it is an MMO and some quests follow too much the classic mmo scheme (bring me 5 rat tails). But even then it never started to feel grindy like in SwTor, Tera or Wildstar. And some quest chains really shine, especially with really changing the world afterwards. Big plus is the complete synchro, with sometimes ironic to funny comments and dialogs.
    - The world is exceptionally well designed for an mmo. You find interesting hidden camps, chests and lore everywhere in the world. Environment feels very "natural" and "organic". Not just 10 pigs and 5 wolves running in always the same random paths around poorly placed trees and rocks. Yes it is not Skyrim or witcher, but I guess you have to make some compromises when designing an MMO.
    - Dungeons - if you actually find a group (tank and healer problem... again...) then all the instances I visitied were actually quite exciting.
    - Main Storyline, Mage guild and fighters guild story lines are solid, though a bit too linear.
    - Characters look ok, though sadly you see it was done with the HERO engine... Considering what other MMOs plan for character generation (have you seen black desert character gen... anyone?) this is just average.
    - Crafting has some interesting new ideas, though it has problems with the poorly designed inventory system
    - Combat is very interesting, though not as well done and as flexible as the real action combat of Tera. Still, with only 5+1 (x2) Skills, the combat certainly is above average.
    - The single player experience is well done, on the negative side group play is not much encouraged, making this somewhat flawed for an massive MULTIPLAYER online experience.
    - Where the quests are focused on single player, the RvsR system is certainly focused on massive multiplayer battles. Meaning if you don't want to do PvP in large groups, you better don't do PvP at all.

    Fazit:
ESO certainly has potential - I really liked the clean view I can experience in this game, first time I haven't tons of different information bars and windows cluttering my view of the actual game. The world is wonderfully designed and a lot of effort was put into quests and atmossphere of the RPG part of the game. I am not sure this game will work on the long run though, especially as a subscription title. Too many flaws, too many bugs, not enough thoughts put into a clear vision of the endgame and a flawed multiplayer experience are the major points which will have to be addressed before this game can be successful in the long run.

I hate this game for its most critical aspect - the combat. I tried playing as Dragonknight and Necro - two classes supposedly ranks as the "most fun". Yet the combat stayed so painfully tedious and grinding that there is no joy in playing at all. Fights follow the "let me spam 3 skills" 20x for mobs that are on health steroids and offer no notable rewards or exp for it. It will feel like literal minutes to take down 1 basic mob and get that "generous" 2 xp. Occasionally I got a monster part for fishing or 5 gold - wtf in 8 hours i didn't even find anything to spend gold on and never discovered any fishing spots. Currency seems worthless until you get about 10k - that's about 20000 mob kills assuming you get a drop on 25% of them. After 8 hours of tedium and mostly quests, i hit lvl 5. Woo. My joy in leveling was being able to unlock a new skill that seemed to make no difference in grindy combat. I couldn't tell if i was killing mobs faster or not v. continually swinging my junk sword in basic attack mode.

Trying to just run by mobs doesn't work either. Mobs will pursue you relentlessly where they seem to hit regardless of where you are in and youll usually die. UI is extremely frustrating and I did not appreciate it at all. I could never find a map, so couldnt tell how far quests are, I have to "unlock" levelup rewards (why?!), no way i can tell to summon mounts or equip pointless costumes (and yes, I had them with the special edition). What a great consolation that you can have a pet that literally does nothing but stand by while you grind and/or die; it wont fight or help you in anyway. It is literally a roaming decoration. No comment on the in-game store - rip off city. $30 some dollars and you can have another decorative pet that does nothing. $20 to get a quest you don't want. Yay. What bargains. Id rather buy bitcoin.

In short. I hate this game. I wish it never was made. It feels like a game made for an iPad and I can only imagine the depraved people who enjoy playing this. I guess if you never had video games before nor got over the WOW addiction, this seems like heaven. For me, the resources that went into this junk game should have beenspent making a proper tribute to Elder Scrolls in the traditional RPG format. At any price, this game is a fail.

Talk about just loving a game. Everyone else has gone into all of the pros and cons, so I won't. But after about 103 hours, I just had to say something in behalf of this game. I have a pretty decent computer to play it on, but the zones and dungeons look better than any other MMO I've played and are just so fun. It gets my vote for game of the year.

I keep flipping between hate and love, but I think I have ultimately landed on love. The 1.6 patch really built a fun dynamic. You have high dps with active defense or moderate dps with passive defense. The variety in pvp has grown a lot. This game has found a nice stride and the devs seem to really care about at least letting us know they are listening.

5 Slots are way to less for one bar.
    Bots everywhere
The game gets made easier and easier with every patch
if you are not a complete casual player stay away from this.
It looks nice and the story quests are not bad.... but its not an mmo!

    Absolute Trash.

    Not written with Creation Engine.

They used Hero Engine, which is some crappy mmo builder engine. I got a free licence during the beta of hero engine. Its basically a childs play toy. Smart developers wouldn't use it to create anything of quality. Like any engine made to create 'shells' it has serious limitations.

Not the ordinary MMO i would say. Free to explore as you wish, good Quests who do not feel like grindish (ex.: kill 20 of those), fun fighting system (active fighting, blocking).
Overall i've played tons of MMO's and this is one of the better ones. Although there is at the moment little to none group content. Let's see if Zenimax adds these in upcoming patches.

That is the biggest reason why I gave this game a 4. If this was the buy once, free to play after model, I would have given it a 6. The only other MMO I can compare TESO to is GW2 and in my opinion GW2 is way better.

Despite the game's very rocky start, it is now an exceptionally strong world. Much of the fault lies in the early world design. Other than Khenarthi's Roost and Auridon (the Aldmeri Dominion start zones) the early world is unimaginative and doesn't grip you. However, upon reaching Level 20 the game's pace picks up greatly and the game finds its feet. The endgame could (and apparently will) be improved upon, but the sheer amount of content available upon finishing the game is immense (the explorable world almost doubles, followed by the addition of another equally sized world). Under subscription I would not have recommended this game, but with copies now available for as little as £10 in some places I highly recommend it. While it may never recover from the ill-conceived payment model it launched with, the current model is excellent and fits in nicely with the world. It is far from faultless. The quest writing is hit and miss: some is excellently written with some great humourous touches and moving parts, others are nonsensical and weak grinding fodder. So called important choices could also be better implemented, the first 40 levels seeing none that actually matter, although those made between levels 40 and 50 in Coldharbour have a big impact on the final couple of missions and it is not just who you side with but how you act that impacts this. Graphics also remain an issue, blotchy textures and poor pop-in hurting the world's beauty. Why an 8 then with this fairly hit and miss reception?
The world itself is wonderfully realised. Beautiful and massive it feels freeing and open. The depth of each place is huge; even unmarked locations have stories behind them one can dig up and work out if so inclined. Considering it takes hundreds of hours to complete one's original alliance zone, the time to complete all three is considerable, but not unwelcome.
In short, if you can bag it for under £30 then definitely consider it. If under £15 then it is an absolute must buy considering the pure mileage the game gives and the gloriously crafted world.

Ultimately the game has been seriously improved in the time since release. Endgame (vet dungeons, trials) are awesome and that's where you spend most of your time in MMOs. If you want a rewarding grind, you won't get it. It's just not in this MMO's genes. If you want Skyrim 2, there's absolutely no reason you should have expected that.

The only major gripe I have is the constant cycle of buffs/nerfs. Unfortunately though, that's the state of MMOs in 2015. One group feels insulted and slighted on a personal level when they don't win all the time so they complain loud enough that things get "rebalanced". Then the group that's been nerfed feels slighted and whines until it's rebalanced again. This goes on constantly but ultimately they're not huge changes that impact the game unless you PvP.

As if it needs to be said, do not come here expecting a game you will get the most out of as a single player only. This is an MMO, not a single player game with some multiplayer. You really should interact with people. You should join a guild and run group dungeons. This is by far the best part of the game. Solo quests are a means to an end, and the end is a ton of fun with friends.

On to PvP: I don't generally PvP, so when I do it only lasts until I die a lot and wind up frustrated because I don't have a PvP build and just don't spend a ton of time improving myself to do it, so I'm OK with it. However, the time I have spent has been fun a lot of the time. The PvP/PvE mixed Imperial City is a lot of fun IMO, but you're going to want to find a big group in peak hours otherwise you will be zerged.

TLDR (but still kinda long it turns out): if you wanted Skyrim 2, look elsewhere. This is an MMO which is at its core, and by necessity cannot be exactly the same as a single-player-only RPG. People who started WoW 2 years in after they worked out their kinks and who think that WoW is the first/best MMO ever may lead you to believe the game is terrible. IMO, they're wrong. It's just new. And it's already way better than it was at release.

    2. Team play is the best in this game. You do not need to 'invite' people into your group to do quests. You bump into someone, run along, kill what you need to kill and you both get the reward.
    3. Crafting is very complex relative to other games. If you are good with numbers you will enjoy it, but lesser minds will struggle, which is good IMO.
    4. The game feels and plays like the Elder Scrolls. The younger players who only played Skyrim will find it a bit different and those who still remember Morrowind map by heart will find it different as well. Of course they had to compromise to make it work, but they did it well.
    5. The game is great to play solo. At the same time, the population of the server I am on is quite high making me wish there were less people for me to get more ore deposits sometimes.
    6. The world is big and distances are huge, but wayshrines reduce travel times to nothing! They work Diablo II - style. No more sleeping on the keyboard while flying around the map from one point to another. Amazing...

Now if we review it as an MMO, that all changes. Since becoming B2P, the game has minor micro-transactions that are absolutely non-freemium/paytowin. Seriously there's like 5 pets and a few weak potions.

Gameplay wise, it's magnificent how much of the ElderScrolls they've managed to cram into the thing. Lorewise, it's incredible. 80% of Tamriel is explorable and there's lore all throughout. The environment is one of the most beautifully crafted in any game, so much more so than the massive amount of re-used assets in Skyrim. There's sneaking, stealing, magic, melee, all the armors, bows, etc... that you would expect from an ESO game, but now with raiding, guilds, and trading you expect with an MMO.

In general, I've played many MMOs, and I could never get into any of them. The ESO is my favorite MMO, and just as good as any previous games of the series, but not the same type at all.

I agree with some users who say that the game is not 100% Multiplayer since you can do a lot of things on your own, but that is a good thing from my perspective.

Controls feel close to the average Elder Scrolls game, even tho physics are not the same.

On main towns the game tends to lag a little bit, the good thing is that you don't have to spend much time there.

Add-ons are an amazing thing, and I've only seen it in WoW (And something similar on EVE Online, where you can edit the Overview). They fill some gaps the game has, and others add pretty good features that make the whole experience smoother.

I like the idea of multiplayer MMORPGs but the ones I played seem to be copying WoW (EVE not included), which is a game I personally don't like.

To finish, if you like the idea of an MMORPG based on Tamriel with a few features from the TES games, this is your thing.

Do not expect this to be Skyrim 2 though, after all it is an mmo not a single player rpg. The graphics are great! The interface is almost exactly like Skyrim and best yet it gives us a peek at 2nd era Tamriel! As far as quests go, there is no fetch/kill-kill/fetch lazy quests in this game, you choices have an impact on future quests! Every single quest is voice acted which I honestly expect from games today.
The unlimited character progression i.e the Champion System is perfect for a guy like me that wants to progress his character forever and the Justice System was a MUST ADD for this to truly be an Elder Scrolls experience.

ALL characters are fully voiced and all have their own story to tell with some great detail in quests, caves and dungeons. A very good community. End game dungeons and raids are very good for MMO players to enjoy with a massive amount of content. Over 300 hours easily.

Although the game is not like it's predecessors and single player elder scrolls games ti still has the feel of one. being able to go into first person with vast open zones. Although there is not as much freedom in exploration as in Skyrim, it is still very good and rewarding.

The 'Skill' system is one of the best I have seen in any MMO with the freedom to use any weapon or armor with any class. Classes are also very open and free but all players still have access to deep and meaningful charterer progression.

The graphics are not as good as 'Next Gen' games but that is due to it being an MMO and for MMO standards the graphics are amazing. Especially when you think about the 200 Vs 200 PvP battles and sieges which are awesome.

Another great mechanic is the phasing which makes you feel as if you are actually making a difference to the world you are in. A good example of this would be A quest where A city had been overtaken by werewolves and I had to complete an attack to drive them out. After I finished the quest all the werewolves were gone and the city was filled with friendly NPC's.

Questing is very good with meaningful decisions that can really make you think. Most quest progression is shared although not all quest progression is shared so at some points your group members will be separated from you until they get to the same point in the quest. However this does not take away from the greatness of the game. The main story is engaging with interesting characters and fun missions.

Overall the game is definitely worth a buy for most people and is definitely worth a buy.

One word to describe this masterpiece? - AMAZING.

If you liked WoW, D2, Path of Exile, or Skyrim, this will literally be your new favorite game. And while I can't necessarily promise you anything, I guarantee it!

I could go on and on about how great of a game it is, but I won't. I'll keep it simple and leave it for you to experience the greatness for yourself! : )

Very good game for the first play through.
Looks amazing, game play is at good level, story is engaging and good sound design.
But as soon as you finish main story you are pushed to do the same thing again for another faction and you are separated from players of opposite factions.
PvP is only allowed in designated areas.

People gave bad critics because they didn't want/couldn't afford monthly subs mostly, PVP is amazing PVE is fun, countless choices of leveling your char/playing it and amazing crafting system.
One damn fine game if you ask me.

Afterwards, I got more confident and started team fighting with my guild, what was pretty awesome when you ambush people that are lost or wondering around.

You can literally play PvP for weeks and you won't get bored at all, there's always something going on.

I understand people complaining about this game not being a Skyrim well successor because it focuses on other aspects, which I enjoyed very much the time I played it.

The controls are very easy to master, they felt natural very fast. The sound and the graphics I would say that they're the best in genre besides Guil Wars 2. And the way you develop your character is really easy and fulfilling, because you see how you get rewarded by using the skills you like to.

The only thing why I quit playing was the subscription, I don't see why it has to be so high, when there are other MMORPGs that don't charge you any subscription at all.

I think it diminishes the social aspect of the game in some ways because you lose track of who is who. It's almost too big, and it feels too realistic at times. The characters are a bit plain, the people all a bit haggard, the dye function makes up for some of the gear being less than imaginative, and the combat is interesting. The crafting aspect of the game is ingenious and fun, and you can really do a lot as far as variety between character classes and specs although there are definitely combinations with blatant advantages. I used to hem and haw about the fact you can only have 5 skills slotted until the point was made to me that with only 5 skills, it was impossible to know in a PVP setting how a player would act, and what they would do to thwart you. These days, my free time is very limited and ESO is working for me. I wish they would design a dungeon queue system like WoW,I hardly ever get to a dungeon because I don't have time to look for a group which can be difficult to find. i don't however want epic loot served to me on a silver platter, tired 2004 graphics, or the asshats that frequent WoW. ESO is blessedly lacking in the asshat department. Expand

For example; Group finder is not very strong, in all reality its been very weak since day one. It's so easy to talk to and meet new people on this game that group finder is not highly necessary. If you don't like to go and talk to random people then you can play the game solo as it can be done by yourself. There are things that need groups to finish, World Bosses are a great example as they aren't easily solo'd.
Yes, PVP is probably the weakest part of the game. It is better on The non-veteran area is better to pvp on than the veteran areas.
Changes are being made with each patch or update. This game has been getting better with each update. This game isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. You can't go on the early experience from two years ago. See the game for what it is now. It isn't ridiculously expensive to buy and can be easily picked up for $15. A monthly subscription isn't necessary to enjoy the game and it can only get better.
    Now for the little things.
Graphics: IMHO this game probably has the best graphics over any MMO i've ever played. Very well done ZOS
Sound/Music: It's okay, expected from an elder scrolls game. Not great but not bad either.
Playability: easy to learn, no crazy mechanics to memorize. Can build your character however you want even if it is the worst way to build it.
Combat: flows well, no cooldowns like your average MMO's. It's a nice change of pace.

I've been a Elder Scrolls fan ever since I was a kid when I played Arena so I may be slightly biased. I refuse to compare this game to Skyrim since it clearly isn't. I believe that this game is best played on PC since it has the options for add-ons and the graphics are just waaaaay better on the PC as opposed to a PS4 or Xbox1. This game was never made with console gamers in mind and it plays VERY well with a mouse and keyboard. You have regular chat available to you, unlike the consoles, so type away if you want. I personally like to control who I can hear on my headset and use clients like TeamSpeak to talk to my friends as I play instead of having to hearing everyone in the whole zone like on console. So YES PC>Console.
Piece of advice as you play the game. Go slow, take your time and enjoy it. Don't rush to max level. You rush to max and then you'll find yourself bored. Create Alts, maybe a different faction or a different class, see what the game as a whole has to offer. Enjoy the time in Tamriel, I'm sure it is more than worth it.

I got bored a few times while playing, and found some of the quests to drone on just a little too long for my personal liking, but as soon as you start getting into it, the game becomes a joy to play. I really did enjoy my time playing it for the most part. I loved exploring some of the wonders of earlier tamriel than weve seen, and seeing some of the historic moments that the other games were built apon was definitely enjoyable. The only reason why i lost enjoyment in some parts is because of the limitation, But overall, i do reccomend this game greatly.

ESO has always been pay to win... unrestricted storage, access to all DLCs as soon as they're released if you pay a monthly fee. In other words you have to pay 15$/month if you don't want to run weaker suboptimal builds and use your characters as storage banks. I've found ways around this but it's very tedious. It gets worse, though. ESO also changed how loot works to make it much more grindy. Now you have to run the same dungeon up to 30 times (more if you're unlucky) if you decide to use a weapon that you can't craft. There's no other way to get loot that's dropped in dungeons and only the final boss drops weapons. Even players from eastern MMOs would consider this level of grind inhumane.

The worst part is recently they changed TOS to allow them to sell your user data. And in usual bethesda anti-consumer fashion (think fallout 76) they are very secretive about it. And if you ask too many questions they will ban you (again, think fallout 76). Pretty sure I'm still banned from posting about this on official forums but it doesn't really matter. Any post on their forums that hurts their bottom line immediately gets locked and deleted anyway... I mean, it's bethesda so why would you expect anything else?

These open-ended role-playing game elements, a wide variety of character design options and gameplay style always attracted lots of gamers. Hundreds of heroes in its centuries-old story and the impact of each of them on the world has been felt at all times in different eras of Elder Scrolls.

However, I think The Elder Scrolls is successful in the single-player genre. However, when we came across multiplayer, especially in the MMORPG genre, I was quite shocked. The game, which we could play with monthly recurring payments at the beginning, now uses the buy and play philosophy only, which I think is very clever!

Still, there are many elements in the game that I consider good and bad. After a quick thought about these, I had to prepare a comment like the one below.

    Pros:

    1. True Elder Scrolls experience...
    2. Buy to Play... "Off-topic: Come on, it's 2021 of the 21st century. Playing an MMO with a subscription method is not a good thing. Devs should use their imagination to create a new way to earn money from their games; like monetize cosmetics! It's easy, and all of the players can afford it."
    3. Almost whole Tamriel, and it's immersive, explorable with lots of world events, creatures, and chests to loot!
    4. You can play the game both in First Person and Third Person; however, the first-person mode is not pure as Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim.
    5. As a classic in all Elder Scrolls games, ESO also provides rich stories and its classic factions, like Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Thieves Guilds and Dark Brotherhood. These factions have their storylines, too. Count side-quests, too.
    6. Play with your style with a customizable skill system; Healer with Khajiit Dragonknight, or Tank with Argonian Nightblade. Of course, you still can create your tank, damage dealer or support character, too.
    7. Deep passive skills system with Champion Points (CP).
    8. Show your allegiance to your faction in large scale PvP Zone, Cyrodiil; capture resource points, castles and outpost. Most importantly Elder Scrolls! Or just go with the Battlegrounds.
    9. Daily dungeon and battleground rewards.
    10. Frequent balance changes with updates and expansion. However, the PvP balance is horrible!
    11. Lots of world bosses, caves with their quests.
    12. Cleverly designed dungeons and trials with good and challenging mechanics.
    13. Leveling is not difficult as they said, it is easy and when you already have CP (like paragon levels) it's getting easier. Example: If you are at 900CP, and if you hit level 50 with your alt-toon then this character, too, will get 900CP right away. Just do main quests, and daily dungeons, you will get to level 50 as soon as possible.
    14. You can be a Vampire or Werewolf.
    15. Crown Store offers only cosmetic items! Yay!
    16. Outfit (like transmogrification) System
    17. AddOn Support
    18. It's not P2W!

    Cons:

    1. Servers... They have latency compared with players around the world. ESO has 2 megaservers; NA and EU. Servers sometimes clumsy, latency may be too high and this leads you to follow players from their back not fight side by side.
    2. Gold is the only soft coin in ESO, and it is difficult to earn. Join Trader Guilds and sold some of the items you loot from the world to other players. Do dungeons, join trials, complete side-quests and main quests, eliminate world bosses, wander around to find chests, you will get used to it.
    3. File Size! Hundreds...
    4. PvP balance is horrible, buggy and there is no balance between classes. Since 2014.
    5. Crown Store items sometimes are not worth a new store update. Literally!
