Soulless, depressing, tacky, repetitive, pointless, unengaging, unintelligent, uninspired, unforgivable.

Every six months or so I give this pixilated and pixelated turd another chance. Several misleading prompts and a 50GB download later, I find it's still the same repellent dung-heap of a game. Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves, as should the brain-dead WoW refugees up-voting

I tried to ignore the buy in price of 120 when I got it just so I could see if I like it, I tried to ignore the first two weeks when I was constantly being dropped and having issues that didn't seem to exist in bug forums. But then i kept playing and I just got bored.

Near the end of my playing I wasn't even reading what the missions were anymore, just check my map run there do whatever, get small reward, repeat. This does not feel like Elder Scrolls, the pvp was amusing for awhile and if it goes free to play might be worth it just for that, but I feel I am wasting time that could be better spent on games I will enjoy. Won't renew, might try again some day if they do a reboot like ffxiv did but otherwise I will just hope they still come out with single player games.

ps the pvp was pretty good but not worth the near 120 price(game + time + tax) and hours of boredom to get to.

The combat is below par, you can only have 5 moves on your bar, this is due to being a game for Xbox and PS. There is no proper targeting system in combat, prepare to aim the cross-hair like an FPS. The NPCs although talkative have dull conversation and you skip the dialog anyway. The classes are poorly designed and the faction system is pointless. Finally, the social dynamic (which is generally why people play MMO's) is lacking in all aspects. The chat system is clunky and targeting another player to add to party/whisper/inspect is next to impossible unless they're not moving, and people only stay still when they're AFK!
Overall I had a very bad experience and this game is not worth the $30 I paid for it. I wouldn't get paid to play this game.

Let's face it, at the current state the game has an identity crisis - it's not really a full heavy-hitter single player game like Oblivion or Skyrim, and it's not a brilliant MMO either. Having tried to merge two worlds together Zenimax made an impressive job, no doubts about that. But it's just not enough.

Everything just seems average, apart from stellar sound production though (voice acting, music, fx).
Graphics - mediocre, story - mediocre, gameplay - mediocre, tons of bugs (broken quests, lag, ctd, infinite loading, etc.) - all this really hammers down your experience. But the biggest problem are the actual players, as they are the ones who will ruin your experience most often.

I really wanted to like this game and saw a huge potential in the way it was developing.
But, sadly, the end product is just another MMO only with the Elder Scrolls label on it.

Zenimax had a great opportunity here to buck the trend and create an engaging game. What we're left with is another generic MMO with an Elder Scrolls cover. Its nowhere near as deep or expansive as the single player Elder Scrolls games, nor is it as satisfying as other MMO's on the market. ESO reaches for the moon, and lands among the garbage pit. Expand

    As a long time player, who started in Alpha/Beta, here are my reasons for negative review;

1:) A complete change from the original design concept. Those who take the time to look back on the promised 200+ player RvR PvP and in fact, any meaningful faction rivalry at all, will find that has been now watered down/is unplayable with lag and bugs/generally no longer developed.

The devs have unofficially admitted this by suggesting that Arena's and smaller PvP environments are under way. However I believe it to be a testament to their terrible engine.

2:) The recent advent of One Tamriel and level scaling in all content. Whilst I can understand the general idea of keeping content relevant for longer by introducing this, as well as creating more of a 'skyrim'esque' feel, the result is a very trivialized and casual progression system. With scaling you are essentially just as powerful at level 1 as you are at endgame. Sure in the very start you may lack access to a few abilities but with how bad the animations are in this game and the poor balance, it scarcely matters. This is compounded by the absolutely terrible 'champion points' system, which has replaced leveling. Essentially once you hit endgame this is the only thing you work towards. Tiny % increases to what you already have, complementing skills and builds.

I disliked the effect on progression personally then but in other area's the games previously linear story lines no longer make any sense. It the vanilla game, quests were designed (scripted) to be completed in a certain order, with a sense of progression in the story line. This is also now trivialized and makes little sense, as a level one character can go to any zone out of sequence and find every challenge the exact same difficulty as the first.

3:) The anti-social nature of the game. Yes you CAN socialize under your own steam. However unlike traditional mmo's the game is 90% solo with no real NEED to play with others. I think this creates a potentially lonesome and pointless experience. One where the trivial nature of the fairly boring classes and animations, makes you feel like you have very little worth in the game world.

4:) The horribly slow content release rate. This caused the games veterans to ditch the game and ZoS themselves stated that One Tamriel was for new players (likely realizing that with the game direction change many vets would leave anyway). I however, feel that the horribly slow trickle of content stems from the payment model change (sub to cash shop rip off ...I mean a mount costs more than a DLC pack lol!) and how it no longer sustains the bills for expensive content (voice over and so forth).

This has meant that new zones and other game releases have been very very tiny. One DLC pack only consisted of the addition of two dungeons! with no more planned for release for well over a year.

Granted the developers focus on designing content for solo players, but this was supposed to be an MMO not a glorified single player game with co-op and few dungeons. The game punishes you for playing with others during questing, because of the story based quests with voice over and dialogue that are unique to each player. It means that you almost don't want to interact with others during that time, because of not being in sync with other people.

I could go on and on. And whilst this game offers some novel modern features, it suffers from a massive identity crisis and a constant lack of developer vision. With being b2p now (free weekends are dragging in lots of f2p gamers) you wont find the game empty.

However it was built around a very incoherent design philosophy, one where it becomes clear that the designers had no clue who or what this game was aimed towards.

It doesn't know whether its audience is anti-social solo player, or MMO group orientated player. So it tries to appeal to all and ends up delivering sub par content for all.

To those joining knew, I will understand much of the above will seem like nonsense. So bare in mind this is a veterans reasoning. I do however believe that with the incredibly rapid leveling process now in game, the trivial ease of gaining gear - and a rapid realization of how shallow the games dungeons and content is, that any semi competent hardcore MMO fan will get rapidly bored.

No new skills since launch pretty much. Along with Dungeons that are so woefully poor next to offerings such as FFXIV make this game (with its constant flipflop development) one I'd highly recommend avoiding now that the funding is low and the cash shop RNG boxes are on the way.

This game couldn't cut it at launch and whilst it has improved, the lack of continuing development really shows. All they have planned for the future is housing... as you can imagine as someone who came for the PvP that was the last straw.

An average PvE game at best, a unsupported laggy PvP experience at best - pick other games in the genre, or stick to solo play TES. You wont regret it.

It's a game that tries to cater both to the typical MMO crowd, and the typical Elder Scrolls crowd, which in essence results in a lackluster game stuck in the middle, not really catering to anyone.

    Lets start with positives:
+ The graphics are nice. Some very nice views and the game generally looks very good.
+ Storywriting, as far as it exists, are good. The quests overall is well written and executed.
+ The class and skill system is innovative and fun, opening lots of possibilities.
+ The crafting system feels quite good.

Then we can take the negatives:
    - A majority of every dungeons etc you won't actually feel like or remember doing, because everything will be dead in them when you jog through, and almost every dungeon mini boss will be camped.
    - Bots, bots everywhere. The game is abound with bots camping spawns, bots selling gold, bots harvesting resources, bots doing everything. ZOS apparently didn't even consider the possibility of bots.
    - The trading system - you will mostly not want to trade at all unless someone tries to buy something from you. There's ridiculous 25% fees on guild stores and even more ridiculous fees on CoD. The entire system was made by someone with a major hard-on for WTS/WTB/WTT chat spam. By extent it makes it so you really won't be selling particularly much stuff at all.
    - The hugely limited active skills. While I'm glad they didn't go down the WoW route of 60 skills in 4 skillbars, only 5 skills certainly are way too limiting. It makes you set up a very short rotation and then stick to it, which makes combat nothing short of terribly boring after a while. The weapon switch at level 15 don't really help, especially not for some classes such as a Sorc with Daedric Summoning focus, since the slots will have to be occupied by the same still, basically.
    - Idiotically timed maintenances and no communication by ZOS (it's more rule than exception nowadays that they put their maintenances on times when a majority of EU players play, and then don't inform as to why they even put a maintenance then).
    - The grouping system which at best is haphazard and poorly implemented. Often you will find yourself in different phases from your group mates, and there's quite some quests that can't be done in group but you won't even know until you stand in there and can't see your groupmembers. And even if it can be done in group you don't always end up in the same group. A bad system.

All in all, as I mentioned, it's a game with potential. But it needs to choose a direction because where it's heading right now is down a route where they try to please everyone, and that just won't succeed considering how different the SP ES players and the normal MMO players are.

Its chief faults are quests that are sometimes rigid and over-scripted, problems with balance (too hard/too easy), and problems hitting the right level of complexity in such things as crafting, neither too convoluted nor too simple. The hostile reaction it has received from some parts of the gaming community is frankly childish. One noted "critic" attacked its "boring" quests by putting up a graphic of a Khajiit that was saying "Boring, boring, boring." There was literally no other argument than that. That's the level that some people are conducting the discussion on. In a way, the incoherent spite is revenge on Bethesda for not making every one of its games exactly the same as Morrowind, which enjoys a fervent-a-little-over-the-edge-of-sanity fanbase that I have dubbed "Morrowwindbags." Another sore point is the subscription fee. Even though this works out to about 50 cents a day for the first year and less thereafter, and even though new content is already being added to the game, less than a month after it was released, the very idea that they pay for anything additional seems to throw certain people into hysterics. But no free lunch, children, no free lunch. Complain if you don't get enough for your money. Don't mewl and whine because you have to pay. The only thing that ought to be free is bug fixes. Expand

The art style of The Elder Scrolls Online is uninspired and bland, a far cry from the engaging, revolutionary graphics of previous installments. While not terrible on the eyes, it's nothing new and certainly nothing to get excited about.

The lore of TESO is heavily contradictory to the already convoluted intertwining established lore of the series, with Zenimax even having the nerve to say that Bethesda got it wrong themselves in past games. This feeling of confusion brought about by having the world you've grown up exploring and researching cast aside as "transcription errors" or "fanciful tales" is an iron curtain over my enthusiasm to explore this shoddily-crafted world.

If it's an MMO you're looking for, literally any other MMO does the genre greater justice than TESO does.
If, however, you're craving Elder Scrolls, I'd recommend any of the other games in the series - they're all great games with more to do than TESO.

You hit something with one ability slot until it dies as an overpowered deity at the very start of the game. You might as well play World of Warcraft or any single player RPG. Despite the appearance of an open sandbox, you're corralled from one giant open area to the next and it's "the most open on-rails experience you can have". Run along and click-click through the dialogue and the arrow points in the direction where you have to go and kill something. By the end you're tired of twisted hellish-floating-rock-islands.

I played the beta. It seems like some key features often found in MMOs or fantasy games are missing or poorly implemented, even still. This includes things such as basic UI stuff, lcking auction houses, a chat interface that's largely a nuisance, and the understandable for an MMO neutering of sniping with a bow, effectively alienating people who favor that style. Also, outside of where a new character was created the writing seemed very dull and derivative. It was a mediocre experience for me.

    ------------------------
    Background:
I was part of the late beta on ESO. I stopped playing the beta about 3 weeks in for a variety of reasons, most related to the game experience presented in a late beta product, but also others that were unrelated to the game.

So why am I writing this NOW? On reading many of the RECENT reviews, positive and negative, viewing videos, and talking with friends who play the game, it is apparent to me that some of my major concerns persist to this day. (Not all, however)

So yes, assessing if a problem STILL exists is second hand, so take it with a grain of salt. The information conveyed comes from my recollection of playing late in the beta cycle.
    ---------------------------------
    a) UI: If there is only one thing to tackle correctly, first, in an MMO, it's facilitating players interactions with each other in a meaningful, manageable way. The core of this is chat/mail. ESO Chat was a cluttered mess in beta. It sounds like the addition of multiple guilds has cluttered it even more.

    b) FEATURE: Similarly, no auction house existed. This makes trade VERY difficult. Long lived MMOs tend to have auction houses or other similar features because they are needed to enable lots of people to buy and sell competitively. It would seem there still isn't a suitable equivalent at this time.

    c) FEATURE: Sneaking and sniping, my all time favorite way to play any Elder Scrolls game, was neutered beyond usability. While sort of understandable in the context of an MMO, and the possible limitations on servers, don't play this game expecting to do any meaningful sniping with a bow, or spell. You will be very close to your opponent when engaging in this manner. This seems to obsolesce sneak-and-snipe builds.

    d) UI: There were few, if any, ways to tell, visually, which items could be interacted with, and which ones could not, thus saving time for players. It would seem from recent reviews that this is still the case.

    e) WRITING: The story intro/premise - Everyone was basically a "chosen one" after a fancy. The in game explanation given (at least at that time) was thin and superficial. After returning from the afterlife I had a waining interest in pursuing the main story as a result. That's not to say that all of the intro zone was poorly written/directed. It was actually quite fun to play through once. The rationale for all the "chosen ones" was unappealing to me.

    f) WRITING: Other quests were comprised of largely thin, cliche writing. Apart from the afterlife / start zone, the writing was frequently failing to living up to "Took an arrow to the knee" for quality, in my view.

    g) BUSINESS PRACTICE: The marketing and pricing seemed a bit like a cash-grab (DLC microtransaction). My impression here has not changed, even though the pricing model has, slightly with them effectively eliminating the subscription with ESO Plus.

    h) FEATURE: This MMO seemed a little light on the RPG elements in late beta. This is not a good thing or a bad thing, it's just something to be aware of. If you have strong opinions on which way you like it, factor this in.

    i) SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE: And I know this is highly subjective, but it didn't "feel" like Tamriel to me. It felt like a hollow empty ghost of Tamriel. It felt like a sterile coopting of the Elder Scrolls brand, not an addition to it.

You'll notice I didn't address graphics, dungeons, the fact that it didn't feel like Skyrim among other subjects. Graphics won't completely make or break a game, but they do certainly add to or subtract from a game. For dungeons, I could never get enough casual players together to try them. As for not feeling like Skyrim, well... Yep there's that. But Oblivion doesn't, nor does Morrowind. . . I love those games even still, even Skyrim. Most importantly, comparing single player games to MMOs misses important defining differences between kinds of games.

You'll also note that I didn't say it was a bad game. ESO was mediocre as a beta product. As time seems to bear out, it's still a mediocre product. (So are other games that I adore. So if you love the game, keep loving it and playing it!)

I give it a 4 because I'm below indifference, I call it negative. Let me point out I enjoy the feel of combat, the world looks cool, it's awesome running around with the realization real people, maybe even a group of friends are there with you, but the kicker for me is this.
The game I think could be played for what it is, spending hundreds of hours getting mostly everything you want out

The game I think could be played for what it is, spending hundreds of hours getting mostly everything you want out of the game with very little real money besides base game and maybe major DLC, what phucks my brain is being in a game with options for the indulgencies such as housing, furniture, dyes and more.......only to find out that **** is blocked up behind a formitable grind wall, one so high it is designed, obviously to make you pay for it all.
Housing things like an in house banker, crafting stations, must be purchased from grind gold or crowns, one phucking the other because both are designed to prevent one or the other.... Making it a loop of mediocrity and tedious trash.
Idk about anyone else, but when I sit down to play a game in the back of my mind I need to know everything will be accessible to me within a reasonable accomplishment accommodation., otherwise the whole story is mucked with the background noise.... CROWNS.
It is truly pathetic, the world as we know it cannot function without micro transactions and little schemes, so much time wasted for so little gained.
I know it's as pathetic I sit here and rant over time lost, expectations let down with general mediocrity, I should move on and not even give this the time of day... And you're right, but I'm so at loss with how ****ty the silver lining of this world really is, I'm better off just **** until I'm dead.

The lags are unbearable, and they last in Cyrodiil for 3 years with 0 fixes. In prime time you literally have 3000 ping, buttons are not working etc. it is hard to believe that this is possible in such a game. Even in 4 man dungeons and raids you have 130 ping and sometimes buttons are not working. Pvp is impossible. Group finder is broken for years and you have to press ready for 40 mins to get into a battleground. Now when ppl stormed the forums, devs implemented a new mechanic: spam left mouse button for 20 secs to get into a queque, there you will spam ready only for 1 minute. It is way better, but there is a 30% chance that you will be kicked from server...
You cant believe this? Than how about the fact, that ultimate from psijic skill line (it is live for a year and a part of a paid dlc) is working only in 50% cases. You just press it and you lose ult points but nothing happens. And devs are not fixing it. Everyone is like ok, it is a nice ultimate, but it is not working, so put it for passive effect, but never press. So forget it, the game will never get fixed. It is a pity, without lags and broken skills this game would be perfect. Dont pay for it, pls.

They said a fix is coming Monday 8/26/19, but it is too late. They have lost so many good players due to the issues in-game. My opinion is they have a 10 yr plan to push out as many DLCs and store items to make money on a broken system. They do not focus to fix the current issues in-game since 2014. Do not waste your money or your time on this game it is a lost cause anymore. Expand

ESO is rather strange and ambiguous. On the one hand, NOT BEING a bloody copy of Warcraft, this is a very good MMO game. ZoS made it good (not great) for quite some time. Of course, they release DLC that increase the number of hours spent in the game, as well as the amount of money that ZoS earned. However, this is all unimportant, because they only complement the game, and not improve it. I spent almost 700 hours at ESO. During this time I received a lot of pleasure, but also disappointment. In fact, I do not remember the moment when ZoS did something that could improve the game. I don’t remember more than one damn patch that saved us from bugs. Seriously. I started having problems with ping, downloads between locations only after the last NOT LARGE patch. And what will happen after Greymoor? I used to have a stable ping (90 - 120), but now I have a stable 300-999 +. Great, isn't it? For all my 700 hours, this is my first ping. And why did I pay them money? Is this game worthy to be paid when it is not worthy of it? Thank you for making at least some DLC free. They would have made it so that everyone could use the jewelry machine, and not those who have Summerset; generally there would be no price. But I think I forgot something. Oh yes. I forgot about server crashes and group searches. For those who don’t know, ZoS has been trying to solve this problem for so long. Event associated with the search for groups, only means that there will be a breakdown of the search. Players will still try to do something, find a group. All this will cause server failure and subsequent technical work, which can take a very long time. This game has a lot of disadvantages. Most offensively not for the fact that they are present, but for the fact that it is quite possible to fix it. Expand

When I first heard ESO was going to be made, my first thought was it was going to be impossible to properly turn an Elder Scrolls game into an MMO. When I finally got into the beta I felt I was wrong, and that they had actually done a fairly decent job of the translation. I preordered it and was in the 5 day early access, and I can safely say my first thought was the correct one.

I really, really wanted to like this game. And for the first several days I enjoyed playing it. But then the problems started flowing in, and by problems I mean design flaws.

    Pros:
-Pretty good looking for an MMO. Graphics are good and the environment is well done.
-It feels very good playing in first person, unlike many of the other MMOs I've tried, though there's no way to change the FOV.
-Music is excellent and fits the environment well
-Voice acting is excellent, except where they made last minute changes to the dialogue and used different voice actors to make up the difference, creating a jarring effect when one paragraph is voiced by one person and the next by a different person
-Stories for the quests are above average

    Cons
-Dungeons are completely linear and go the same way every single time. You find a dungeon, any dungeon, and open the map: it's just a square. You reach a fork and you turn right every single time, because the left side is where you exit the dungeon to head back to the entrance. Because of phasing half way through the dungeon you will find the "boss" area, where a named NPC resides dead on the floor in a pile of copies of itself, with 12 people standing around it all trying to get one hit in before it's killed so they can get the completion acknowledgement and move on to the next quest or dungeon. The boss lasts no longer than 4 seconds.

-There is no central auction house to trade goods. Instead. each guild has a store where its members and only its members may post up to 30 items at a time to sell to other guild members. There is a 25% cut when you list an item which becomes a hefty fee very quickly. Now, because there is no central auction house you can only reach a maximum of 300 players for any given item you are attempting to sell using the store. You can be a part of 5 different guilds, but you must choose which guild you list your item and that is it. This has led people to spamming every single general zone chat with trade requests because there is no trade chat, and it has overwhelmed any other discussions attempting to go on. The fact is, if you want to sell your item you want to reach the most amount of people, and that means selling it in general chat, not one of the guild stores where you will only get 75% of what you're asking.

-Inventory management is a complete nightmare. You are able to level any or all professions at will; you aren't locked into picking just one or two. However, crafts like provisioning and enchanting have A LOT of different items used to craft, and you only start with 60 bank slots. If you try and level provisioning alone you will use up almost 100 slots with just different types of crafting materials, leaving room for absolutely nothing else! There are trinkets and pets and other things you might want to keep, but now you have to use bank alts and THEIR specific inventory just so you can have room to level other professions, or keep those special trinkets you get in game, or hell, another set of armor.

-Enchanting is a joke. Almost all of the enchantments that you can use only go on jewelry, which you can't craft, and most of the rings and amulets you find have enchantments on them already that can't be overwritten. You need 3 different kinds of runes, but aspect runes appear in the game about 10% of the time compared to the other 2, meaning leveling it is godawful slow. However, leveling any profession in the game goes faster by deconstructing any item you find, NOT crafting. There is essentially no point in actually crafting a single item in any profession until you hit max level because you will outlevel it too quickly and it doesn't provide enough experience to level your profession to make it worth it.

-PvP is mostly just running around for 10 minutes in empty fields to hopefully the next battle, because as far as I can tell there is no way to know if a capture point is in conflict or not. Seriously, PvP is mostly running from point A to point B with nothing inbetween, then it doesn't matter if you win or lose because what comes next is another 10 minute run. The map is too big. Seriously.

These are just a few of the criticisms. If you really, really want to give the game a try, WAIT a few months for things to get settled, because it's just not worth the $15 a month they are asking for you to be waiting for things to get sorted out.

I generally thing that this game looks good. Cranked up 2 max had me Ohhhing and Awwwing here or there.

The humor is present, and with an amazing(sometimes not) voicecast it really brings the humor to home. Especially considering it's all elder scrolls based. Hearing jokes about kwarmas, skooma and the like really add charm to this game.

I love that the npcs talk about you and what you have done. It makes walking around even without a party feel less empty.

    The bad
Very uninspired quest design. There were a few solid quests here or there, but for the most part it is the same quest every single mmo has had before it. Go kill this many, go collect this many. Even the quests that have you choices that are unchangeable feel like they have no impact. Because they really don't impact all that much

Goldspamming is a massive problem. And Zenimaxs response has been a bit lackluster. It is understandable though. Considering I don't even know HOW they would get rid of all of them. But regardless it does make general chat unusable. With bots constantly spamming.

    The ugly:
Glitches.... Never in any mmo I have ever played have glitches been this rampant. And such terrible glitches at that. Market destroying dupes, falling through the floor(Happens a couple times every time I play), Quests just not completing. Monsters not doing what they were scripted to do (Walked through a aggressive area and the AI completely ignored me.) This is actually what made me decide to not resub. I can't justify the $15 a month along with my initial purchase for the dire straights this game is in right now. And the argument that all the forgotten mmos before it made the same mistake is disingenuous to all the people who paid for content they are not getting. For such an expensive game you should demand excellence, but the customer support is terrible.

    Overall: 5/10
I don't understand how someone can give this game a 0/10 and keep a straight face. It is not by ANY means a 0/10. But it is also not a 10/10 that some people have put up. This is a solid game if you can get past the bugs that I could not. But it is absolutely nothing new. It is extremely... Average.

I will start out by saying that I think the immersion and "feel" of Oblivion is far more engaging then ESO.

I know ESO is an MMO , but my experience in ESO was like a single player MMO , where you use the group tool to find a few people to run through the dungeons with every so often because you're completely bored of running around for hours doing handfuls of mostly bland and boring quests for NPC's that are just as bland and boring.

Most of the quests are thinly veiled "fetch" quests where you run....and run, for a few seconds until you are out of stamina, then you walk... and walk, and walk and gather x number of goblin toes or whatever.... then you run, and walk, and walk, and walk some more to go back and "turn in" the quest and get your unimpressive rewards...

At it's core ESO is a RPG... or at least it's supposed to be, but it doesn't do a very good job of it.... my character seemed like just some random sword swinging errand boy, that runs and runs and runs, and walks and walks, and kills whatever is between him and the goblin ears he needs to complete his current yawn inspiring quest.

I bought ESO a couple weeks ago, before it was available on Steam, had to pay $60+ for it... and while the game looks beautiful, it feels shallow, the characters and quests feel hollow.

Inside of 2 days I found myself skipping all the conversations, and skipping through the lore... being annoyed at the massive amount of running that seemed suspiciously like I was being compelled to break out some more cash to buy a horse... A horse that even at level 20 I am nowhere near where I would need to be in terms of gold to be able to buy with in game currency.

The tight storage capacity, and the excessive cost of expanding it was also dubious and felt kind of like a way burn up every last little bit of gold you can scrounge up by adventuring. So that you might come to the conclusion that it would just be easier to break out your wallet, so you can actually get to the fun part.... that is, even then, elusive, I'm sure.

I was completely turned off by the whole running out of inventory space every 40 minutes or so, then needing to travel across the continent to dismantle the unimpressive spoils of adventure that I had accumulated, into raw materials, so that I could sell some off to pay for more storage space to stockpile the rest of it, in hopes that one day I would be able to craft it into something useful.

The game has beautiful graphics and environments.... that are full of boring, "been there, done that" quests and endless time sinks and gold traps.

The objective of the game, from the company's perspective... is to keep you on an endless hamster wheel of chasing gold and materials.... it's meant to keep you broke...in game and out, and to burn up as much time without progress as possible, so you don't make it to "end game" territory (which there is next to none of) without paying for at least a couple months worth of subscription fees first.

And while it is doing that, it makes life hard in terms of travel and inventory management on anyone that is not willing to break out their wallet and spend.

It just seemed like the time I spent playing ESO was highlighted more by disappointment and regret for the purchase then it was by a good gaming experience.

It feels like the loyal fans and followers of The Elder Scroll series are being extorted with ESO... it's a blatant, unapologetic cash grab.

A full price premium purchase, with a monthly subscription... AND micro transactions... in a game designed to burn up time for the sake of holding you hostage until after your next months subscription is paid... No thanks. I canceled my subscription today, still have another 10 or 12 days left on my "free" month, I doubt very seriously that I will be logging in anymore though.

I guess the rest of the gaming community is already starting to make their displeasure known as well, since ESO is on sale via steam at 50% off right now. Another insult to those that have paid full price recently.

I imagine the announcement that they are dropping the subscription fees isn't too far off either, and when that happens maybe I'll log back in again and take another look, maybe the devs will stop focusing so hard on their customers wallets and focus on fixing the quests that were broken and impossible to complete for the entire month that I played their game, or should I say GOT played BY their game.

I am not against companies making money, even copious amounts of it, but don't be greedy . Produce a great game and people will spend money for DLC, expansions, in game items, etc, etc...

But if they keep demanding money from them while simultaneously letting them down and making them feel taken advantage of.... this game will be free to play before you can say dungeons and dragons online.

I gave this game a 1 for the simple reason that it is an incredible disappointment to the elder scrolls series. I spent almost £100 on this game and I couldn't feel more ripped off if I bought Big Rigs Over The Road Racing for that price. All in all, don't buy this game. I've been playing the game since early beta, Fan of TES franchise since Morrowind, I've sadly seen the decline and the dumbing down of the franchise, at first in Oblivion (which was still extremely enjoyable) and afterwards in Skyrim where the game was dumbed down enough to apeal to the console crowd and thus making millions and putting to light a sad fact about nowadays gaming: The easier and dumber it gets, the more people will like it.

The Elder Scrolls online takes the same path as Skyrim, taking it to a whole new level in the desperate attemmpt to make the franchise popular and as available to the maximum amount of players possible thus diminishing the quality of the game.

The game itself is extremely easy to play. You can only use a maximum of 5 skills at the same time, cookie cutter builds are easy to obtain and easy to use (some people still manage to suck big time at the game though, don't worry). End game content was unexistant at launch and there are now 3 12 people raids as well as 1 4 people raid for end gamers to be "entertained". Any seasoned MMO player will have an extremely easy time playing this game and will also likely leave it quickly when he realizes that the game rewards never match the difficulty nor the effort put into the encounter.

Zenimax Online Sutdios itself as a company is a joke. Don't get me wrong, the people working there are awesome and really feel pationnate about the game which is why I'm still playing it, but the people making the decisions must be complete **** with no sense of Public Relations and/or Custommer Relations, they keep making game changing/game breaking patches and have NEVER EVER made any gesture towards their player base in order to compensate them for all the changes they make and all the time that is lost by the players who worked towards goals that end up disapearing.

After 8 months of running, the game is virtually rebooting, Zenimax is calling it Elder Scrolls 2.0. Imagine Final Fantasy XIV had kept milking their player base during 9 months instead of closing the game and relaunching and you'd have a better understanding of what is going on in the game. The players who where at end game where cheated by Zenimax to continue playing since the company claimed their advancement would be tracked and that the new system would reward the players accordingly so that they woudln't loose advancement, but it was a lie. The advancement was tracked but during the reboot, the company is simply planing to put all the players at the same level regardless of their advancement (and this is not the first time they do this). The worst part of it is that the implemented system actually helps players who haven't cleared late game content to advance faster than players who are at end game thus giving them an advantage over dedicated players.

Despite all this, the new system actually looks good, it's just a shame that the company behind the game and the people making the decisions care so little about their PC players who are just beta testing the console release where they plan to make millions like they did with Skyrim. When you look at games with much bigger infrastructure issues like League Of Legends, there allways is a lot of rage towards the company when the game isn't working but Riot Games at least tries to make it up to it's players most of the time, ZOS isn't about that, they are about money.

This game was suposed to be the next big thing, it might still be with the new update, I'm hoping it will since I'm still here, still paying, still believing in it, but the company behind it is probably one of the worst if not the worst in the MMOG industry...

Cosmetic is pay2win in an MMO where cosmetic rewards is about half the reason to play. Those who defend cash shops just don't understand gaming and why most people play. And I have a ton of money it isn't about being able to afford this pay2win cosmetics shop, it is my refusal to pay2win out of principle. I will never give one dime to any game with a cash shop. EVER.

I've also played several of the Fallout series. I'm sorry to say that The Elder Scrolls Online is the low point of this series.

This game is EXTREMELY BUGGY and the quest difficulty is absurdly unpredictable. This especially applies to the 'main story' quests. The player economy is broken, making crafting a waste of time. Voice acting ranges bizarrely from very good to very poor. Animations range from good to fair. Scenery has repetitive elements and lacks real artistic flair. Especially bizarre is instance play. Most instances are public, including most of those labeled as 'solo dungeons'. That robs them of all difficulty when other players are nearby. It's very strange to see other players in instances where the story line suggests you are uniquely able to overcome a certain challenge. Often these other players will have carbon copies of the same 'unique' npc who is trailing you around. Occasionally you'll meet an unbeatable boss in a true solo instance that will hold you back as much as ten levels. Often you'll be defeated by buggy combat mechanics -- like, you knock-back a boss who passes through the scenery and then resets the entire fight, or even refuses to engage you after that so you have to abandon the quest or reboot the game to progress.

It's a crying shame that such a promising series leads experienced players into positions of extreme frustration with such frequency.

I could go into the bugs or the half-baked quests and just terrible, terrible group mechanics... but I don't need to. This is a strictly generic online MMORPG. Nothing more, nothing less.

Other people cover the gripes pretty well; I'm still a loyal player, just frustrated. Currently dealing with CTD's, broken grouping, bugged quests, non-connecting combat, and weird disconnects. The Bad:
The dungeons are terrible! About 90% of the bosses had 10-20 people swinging at the air over the piles of dead boss and you had better join them if you want to land a hit on the respawn.
You must compete with other players for chests and many other items, so if you fail your lockpick, then the next person spam clicking “E” on it will jump in your place.
SPAMBOTSPAMBOTSSPAMBOTSMORESPAMBOTS. (You can’t read anything in chat unless you install a MOD to stop it or only use guild/party chat.)

    IMO:
They could have taken a great many hints from Guild Wars 2 and made the PVE a fun and cooperative experience, but the other players in this game will only function to steal your thunder as a hero or just steal the loot chest you’ve been working on.

I absolutely can’t recommend this game to an Elder Scrolls fan OR a basic MMO fan.

A genre that already has enough bland and generic games to suck up your time, if you wish to do so. A game I and countless others could only hope would be Skyrim in an MMO environment. All of us were quite disappointed with the sack of not so special or groundbreaking brown potato's that was given to us, called The Elder Scrolls Online.

Having played the game for roughly a month, I was still waiting for the game to be fun. Instead it simply felt average or plain. The quests were not very engaging, combat system was a bit different but still left you longing for more, drops were not scaled at all, repair bills were extremely high considering how much gold the enemies dropped (1-2 gold for bosses), and much more. Attempting to do dungeons was one of the first gripes I had; most dungeons you enter and you will have a straight walk to the boss, because someone has already come in and wiped all the mobs (trash or not) out for you (how nice). Once you get to the boss you assume, I'll be able to take this guy, it's a single player quest, surely they wouldn't make this guy Superman in a world where no kryptonite existed, they did. Now you're stuck at the boss waiting for another player to come through and end up at the end and assist.

Remember how in Skyrim if you killed an enemy, basically you could take everything off him; armor, pants, gloves, helmet, sword, bow, dagger, potion, crafting supplies, and even more than 1-2 gold. Well, here you might get 1 gold and a mushroom. Even in the level ranges of 30+ mobs (even bosses) would only drop 1-2 gold at max. My repair bills at that point were over 300 gold, that wasn't even with level appropriate armor. The quests were where you made your money, but seriously, 1 - 2 per mob from level 1 - 30+, you have got to be kidding.

Though I will praise the game with it's crafting system. I honestly found myself more interested in crafting than actually leveling or questing. The crafting was fun, though I thought the models you were given were quite bland.

Exploring the map was, quite useless. There are a few quests throughout the map, off the beaten path, but it felt like you were guided to this additional quest. Clearing each map took quite some time, I spend 8-16 hours clearing numerous maps, some took more as I had to walk all over the place. And travel is not fun, a good horse costs an ungodly amount of money, or you can shill out $20 for a starter horse and be able to play as an Imperial class. The horse is quite slow and you can only upgrade the horse every 20 hours. Upgrading the horse felt... useless and drawn out. It was nice to summon a horse, but I didn't feel like I completed any quests quicker because of it.

Questing was fun, if you don't mind the mindless kill 10 parrots and bring me red feathers or go talk to Potato and give him this letter from Raddish, or investigate the mines as something spooky is happening (oooooOOOOOOooooH). It was fun, if the quests would work half the time. Every other quest I encountered I had to log out of the game and back in to try to finish it. If that didn't fix it, I would have to restart the quest over. Now starting the quest over meant starting the QUEST LINE ALL OVER AGAIN. So, you thought you wasted your time getting to this point the 1st time? Do it again a second time and hope the quests initiates for you. I would have easily over looked this, but seriously, it was every other quest.

These "Mega-Servers" were complete garbage as well. Now I am sure they have a massive data center with all these servers getting pounded on by Tom, Dick, and Harry trying to slay David the Gnome. With all the crashes, lag spikes, and immediate shutdowns, it makes you wonder what in the world they are doing. I can overlook a few technical difficulties, but when this is coupled with quests that do not work, a game I am waiting for to get fun, plus nothing really scaling, and monsters I found at level 1,5,10,15,20 re-named and scaled for level 30, you are pushing your luck on a game.

All in all, if you feel like paying Filet Mignon prices for this Wal-Mart cut of meat game , this is your game! It's bland, so bland that it hurts. It's boring, you wait for the fun to happen and fool yourself to think its coming in the next level or two to keep you going. With the title of Elder Scrolls we were promised a great game. Instead they took that title, wiped their butt with it, slapped it on this excuse for an MMO, and fed it to us at Ruth Chris.

Fine ok i can do that. You get a free month of play but you have to pay for your first paid month up front before you can get your free month of play and access to the Imperial race and a mount to start off with is hidden behind a pay wall. There is Micro Transactions within the game as well. Second: this is a game that is set in the TES world that is meant to be played with others. In the month i have played i found playing with others irritating and tedious at best. If you are not on the exact part of the quest your friend is on you can't help them or even see them. The main story line is solo only and the roles within a dungeon setting is horrific at best. You can play any of the 4 classes in any role you prefer BUT only the way Bethesda has intended it to be played. The skill lines in said classes are mediocre at best and choices to customize those skills are in no way dramatic or game changers. The combat is terrible and clunky and poorly executed. The graphics a horrible and group play is not fun at all. The roles are poorly executed. For example if you are a tank your role in the group is to taunt the boss, continuously block and heal yourself. You actually feel completely useless and is in no way engaging in any way. Healing in the game takes away as you really don't have any control over who you heal. The heals are suppose to be "smart" healing but in many cases is incredibly dumb and doesn't actually heal who it's should and when it should. DPS is fun for about 10 seconds then it gets boring. The quests are terrible and most of the time you feel you are doing the same quest over and over just with different mobs. Sometimes you get a companion to come and help you but most of the time they just stand there and do nothing. Spells often fail to cast which require you to double click them, THEN when they do go off the added function of the spell fails to function correctly. Everything about the Knight Blade class is broken at the moment. Classes seem to have been created with a certain role in mind and if you deviate from that it feels too clunky and inorganic. The PVP content which has been the major selling point of this game is fun the first time around, after that it just gets boring. There is no relevant economy to speak of other than getting into a guild to sell stuff to other people in your guild. To take it a step further in order to access the guild market you have to have 50+ members. The server is always down and the game is riddled with bugs. When they fix one thing they break 10 other things in the process. Whoever thought that this game was a good idea to produce in it's current state with it's current business model and constantly broken features should have been fired on the spot.

In short if you like Paying money for a game and then paying a monthly sub for a game you'll grow tired of in a month then i say buy it. If you actually want to be entertained for weeks and have fun with friends while doing it, simply put... LOOK ELSEWHERE. GW2 is F2P just have to buy the game. Neverwinter is totally free to play give that a go as well.

Those who have stuck around to read this far, thanks. Have fun gaming!

Not quite as bad as Neverwinter but not better than any other game except Neverwinter. In terms of cash grabs about the same as Neverwinter.

Graphics haven't changed any since Skyrim (most people claim its worse but looked the same to me). So they're decent still. The storyline is written great, as with all Elder Scrolls games. And that's where the positive aspects of the game stop.

All the bugs from beta are still in the game, you couldn't even progress your storyline after release based on your faction. You will fall through the world randomly for no reason. You will get stuck on stairs. You will be dismounted from your horse while running along a road for no reason at all.

The combat is extremely slow. There are very few skills per class and most are useless so you'll be spamming the same skills as every other Dragon Knight / Nightblade / etc in the game.

The quests are spread out to the point where all you'll be doing is running around looking for more quests or running for days to turn in the quests you did. The quests have you backtrack often also, no streamlining at all has been done to make the progression smooth.

At the end of the day if all you care about is Story you should grab this game and play through it inside of 1 month then cancel your sub and move on. If you care about having fun, the combat, quests, bugs or any actual gameplay aspects of the game then you should definitely avoid getting this game.

Full-disclosure I am a reviewer. Not from a big site at all, and honestly I haven't reviewed anything in well over 2 years. I just say this to call out something underhanded many of the bigger publications are pulling right now.

Think about this for a moment. When have you ever seen a game this big have so few reviews close to release date? Usually a handful of early reviews will slip through the cracks maybe 48 hours or so before the game's official review embargo (when we are allowed to post reviews) has passed. So why is it that a game that hundreds of reviewers of major online and print publications have only come up with 8 reviews worldwide amongst them?

Having played the game I will tell you why. Bethesda is offering some kind of incentive to either delay or "re-review" ESO. See the developers are sent copies of the review before it releases with big games like this. There was a guy who worked for Gamespot who got FIRED for giving a bad review to Kane and Lynch Dead Men a good 6 years or so ago.

Anyone who has reviewed this game under a certain score is getting some kind of incentive to either delay their review or "rework it", and that is a despicable practice that Bethesda has engaged in for as long as I can remember.

The actual review? This game isn't amazing, and it isn't horrible, The character customization is amazing it truly is endless with the options of what you want to create, the graphics are incredibly bad for a next gen title I mean painfully awfully bad. Which they justify as saying this is because the world is so large. Really? What about Aion? What about Final Fantasy XIV: A realm reborn? What about Destiny. The game isn't horrible, and it isn't amazing but these deliberately withheld reviews make me sick to my stomach.

From the start I was one of the haters of the entire concept of ESO. I just didn't think ES was meant for such a standard take on the MMO genre. I was glad to be proven wrong in most ways.

The game is massive. In a few of the more recent MMO launches. I've often found myself greatly disappointed with map sizes in general. Zones often feeling like small bottle-necked canyons that lead from point A to point B. That feeling is nowhere to be found. I'm still stunned at the size of the zones. Glenumbra for example a Daggerfall zone. Honestly feels like it could engulf almost the entirety of The World of Warcraft zone Northrend within its borders.

The game is beyond gorgeous. Without a doubt the best looking MMO I've played to date. The environments are lush, the lighting is truly amazing. For matter of fact. The lighting is the single best thing about the look of the game. They've done such a good job with it. The contrast from Day to Night is noticeable. A good example of the lighting would be. Take one of the many Skyrim lighting mods with "Fantasy settings" mixed with highly saturated colors. This makes for some amazing sun rise vistas while exploring the world.

The character models is where Zenimax really strays from typical Elderscrolls. Mainly they are appealing looking out of the box and not with having to add an array of body and texture mods to make your elves not ugly. Unless you're one of the many die hards that want their Elves ugly and their women manly. You will not be disappointed with this. With that said. I still want a few more options. Mainly with the face models. I would like to see some more preset options. I'm not really one to take and create the perfect face for my character. I usually like cycling through presets until I find one I like, then tweak that model slightly.

The combat is a mixed bag for me. I feel like the amount of abilities is simply just not enough to really mix and match and come up with crazy builds. You have 1-5 and Q and R. Q being quickslot which can only have potions and other on use items. I would like to see the option to throw a spell in this slot. R is for your ultimate ability. 1-5 To me is really confining. I've been finding it very hard to create a build I truly enjoy. Weapon Swap helps a little bit with this but it's still not enough. Having 1-5 abilities is just not enough. I'm not a fan of having 26+ keybinds and it still not being enough. I feel like 10-12 Keybinds would be more ideal and I really hope they revisit the model they've developed in future expansions. MMO's are dynamic by nature after all. Otherwise the left and right click combat mechanics of swinging a sword, staff, using a bow, etc and blocking with right click. Works pretty well and is more fluid than I could've hoped for.

The questing holds mostly true to the Elderscrolls style. I prefer to do the questing content solo. That way I can move at my own pace and enjoy the stories and getting the quest rewards at my own pace. Some things I don't like. I don't like how when I'm on this epic quest and I see 20 other people in the some dungeon, doing the same quest. I feel like this content should've been tuned towards single player and party content. The feeling of ES would've been much more intact. What I mean by that is. The questing dungeons should not all be public. It's just kinda strange. There are a ton of public dungeons that have a boss at the end that people can farm for loot and sometimes these will have a quest in them as well. Thats fine, but when I'm on a quest. I don't want to see everyone and their brother that is on the same quest in the same dungeon. It's really distracting.

I haven't really got to try out the pvp much at all. So I don't have a lot of input on that. From what I've heard though, people seem to really enjoy it.

ESO seems to have taken concepts from a few key games and mixed them all really well together.
Games like Warhammer, Rift, Age of Conan and SWTOR. They have taken concepts from these games and wove them strongly into the fabric that makes ESO as a whole. This is where ESO really shines. The experience as a whole package. Which is something rare of some of the last MMO's I've experienced. I have that classic WoW feeling. That feeling when I know I'm taking part in a truly special game. The one thing people need to understand is, don't expect ESO to be like Skyrim, Something people often forgot about Elderscrolls games is. They each play a little differently and that's whats important to remember. ESO is simply an MMO take on the universe of ES. If you don't like MMO's already. You probably will not like ESO. You can focus on create good horses (later in game will be horse races), with all possibilities you can create new classes (pyromancer, battle mages, etc), you can "role play" with your guild mates and the possibilities are huge and other things that put you in the world of ESO.

If you read something like "I'm playing for weeks and now I'm rank 40 and the game is sucks" have in mind that in rank 50 you aren't in the middle of the game.

Some times the armor looks like plastic, specialy in low rank. But in high rank this changes a little.

There are lot of bugs, huge bugs.

Last thing when you are in a battle you can feel that your actions can make diference. Your position, your strategy, etc. You aren't another guy hitting a bunch of buttons!

Give the Game a try! If they fix all bugs it is a solid 9!

The charm of the Elder Scrolls has always been to find your own way through the world. But in order to achieve a higher value on the market, Bethesda and Zenimax have to ignore the fans and the wishes of the fans and promote its game ultimately. That works with unfair Imperial Editions and Imperial benefits. Bethesda going to be EA.

The character creation is also very improved. You have more options, but it is easier to use and create a character that looks how you want. During character creation, you select a class as well. These classes choose what abilities you have, but do not limit your weapon choice. The world is incredibly open and while your exploring you can find old temples, shrines, and quests everywhere. The PvP is where this game shines the most. Once you are level 10, you can join the alliance war, and fight for the throne of emperor. The sieges are exciting and fun especially with the siege engines that you can purchase. My only complaints are that on some alliance war servers (called campaigns in game) there are people who raid while everyone is offline and take all the keeps. The game also can get a little stale if you play too much at a time. The subscription fee is outrageous as well, having to pay for a 60 dollar game with another 15 dollars. Overall, Elder Scrolls Online is a fantastic MMORPG that will please MMO fans and Elder Scroll fans alike. Expand

My score ranges are: 9-10: The best on the market, or pretty close to it (because nothing's perfect)
7-8: Good / Very good. With a few tweaks here and there, could have been a 9-10.
5-6: Decent. Not bad. Not great. A lot of generic stuff that is both unoffensive (read: not terrible) and uninspired falls here
1-4: Varying levels of suck. Something is inherently broken, blatantly bad, or just plain not fun.
0: A game so terrible that it rivals the awfulness of both E.T. and Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing games

Overall score: Not an average, but usually pretty close. The overall score is just my overall opinion of the game. It may or may not be an average, as sometimes games are more (or less) than the sum of their parts.

Graphics: 8. The graphics aren't exactly the best on the market, but they ARE the best I've ever seen in an MMO. Given the size of the zones and scaling issues inherent in MMOs, the ESO team did a great job. From a technical standpoint, the graphics are great. From an artistic standpoint, they're pretty good, but could have had a bit more flavor.

Story: 7. This one was a tough call between a 7 and 8. The story is relatively derivative, as many ES titles are. The voice work is hit or miss. However, the fact that the entire game is voice-acted and (to an extent) interactive pushed it over the edge for me. It's by no means a GREAT story, but it is better than you'll find in most MMOs.

Gameplay: 8. The combat system is in the vein of TERA, albeit a bit more sluggish. The crafting system is a nice change of pace from the "create all" and wait game of a certain other MMO I used to play, and the questing is a nice change of pace from "kill/fetch X of Y". That being said, the quests could have been more varied, as so many of the quests involve the same basic premise (if you play it, you'll understand; otherwise, I'd rather keep this spoiler-free). Also, while the game is a themepark MMO, it actively promotes exploration through level-appropriate zones by way of offering extra skill points for those that do. The character creation is great, and the game supports add-ons much the same way WoW did. The bad news? The skill bar is ridiculously short (five slots, one reserved for "ultimate" abilities). Grouping, while fun for endgame, PvP, and dungeons, is broken for open-world leveling/questing due to the manner in which the phasing system was implemented.

Bugs: 4. It's an MMO launch. There are tons of bugs. Nothing breaks immersion and fun like having to re-log because the item you need for your quest either won't work or won't show up on the screen. That being said, these bugs are being fixed quickly. I'll update this in about a month in order to reflect any progress made. While the dev team is fixing bugs quickly, that doesn't change the fact that many are still there and annoying as hell.

Overall: The game doesn't feel like an Elder Scrolls title, but it IS a solid game in its own right. It's not the best MMO ever, but it's definitely not bad. It also has quite a bit of potential, which is not reflected in the review score (potential != current state). If you're looking for a fresh MMO to add to your collection, definitely give ESO a shot.... just wait a month or so for them to work the kinks out first.

The game is fun for about a week, the pvp is an exact clone of guild wars 2. The graphics are good but i can imagine that in a few years maybe 2 it will look crappy. The leveling can be done by questing or farming, both of which are really boring after about a week. Save your money kiddies until this one is free to play or buy wildstar.

I have been playing it since beta and I will say TESO has made a steady upward climb. I enjoyed playing several toons into their mid 30's but with each one I seemed to hit a wall. There is still work left to be done on this one as far as engaging the players. Also the developers need to take more chances rather then taking the safe road and firmly entrenching the game in mediocrity. I think Zenimax started with a few strikes against them in the hype as well as creating a themepark MMO in the first place. The only way this game will climb out of the middle of the pack is to take some chances and explore new ideas. Expand

I will give the PC version some credit- it's better than the ps4 atrocity. You can at least mod this version for things like a mini map, and there's social options that make the world feel more alive. If you must play ESO, the PC version is the best of all of the versions.

That said- it's still a bland WoW clone with horrible combat and few positives.

First of all, the good: The graphics are very pretty, and don't require new hardware (although running it on new hardware makes it look much prettier). The fact that the whole game is voiced makes it feel like a complete product, although after awhile you start noticing the same voice actors (not nearly as bad as Oblivion however, which had like 4 people do all the voices). The crafting system is enjoyable and is probably my favorite aspect of the game so far, you need to invest skill points into a trade if you want to actually become proficient at it. Instanced dungeons are also pretty fun, although I think the loot system for instances in Wow was far better (in this everyone gets their own loot, and in instanced dungeons it is always the same stuff so there is no point in running them again). Combat in general is fine, although at earlier levels it is pretty brainless.

The quests are well written for an MMO, and they definitely try to make you feel like you are doing something important, but after a while you realize you are just running to talk to NPC A, running here to kill NPC B, run back to NPC A to tell him, then run to NPC C for some reason because they felt like that quest wasn't long enough and you needed to travel a litlte more. And a lot of these quests take 20 or so minutes and barely nudge your EXP bar at all, but you don't get as much EXP from grinding mobs like in other MMO's so you basically are always running around talking to NPC's who always act like YOU are the sole savior of Tamriel and are incredibly important, but it's an extremely fragile illusion when you have 10 people clustered in one room waiting for the boss to respawn so they can finish the quest. Another thing that massively breaks the immersion is the constant, 24/7 gold spamming, they even email you in your private box. My ignore list was over 40 after just a few days of playing yet it did nothing to stop the endless flood of gold spam, forget about interesting conversations in zone chat because it just doesn't happen (maybe in higher lvl zones it does)

I played it feverishly for the first 10 days or so after I bought it and haven't touched it in about 10 days since. I'm going to pick it up again soon (mainly because I paid for 3 months subscription.....if I had just done a free trial I would not have been impressed enough to subscribe). It just doesn't quite draw me in enough at the moment. I think this does have the potential to be much better than it is, but as of right now I am definitely regretting spending $100 on it.

The bugs: being sent into the floor by enemy attacks, dungeon bugs where I cannot enter, enemies bugging into walls/ the floor preventing progress in dungeons, skills failing to cast due to server lag.

Time gates: one of the main parts of the game is PVP or BG(battlegrounds) both require to be fully geared, and PVP requires either 810cp or a maxed out horse speed, which takes 60 days minimum to get. Other time gates on ridiculous things also exist, for example a werewolf bite can be only given once a week, I guess their jaw aches or somthing? Nooo, you’d be wrong, it’s because ESO wants to sell werewolf bites on the store for money, aswell as horse speed scrolls.

Not only all this. But having had the game two weeks and paying for ESO only monthly subscription I’ve now encountered a day where I cannot log in at all due to an endless ‘requesting character load’ due to poor server quality and size, this has occurred on a day where a new expansion has been released. TERRIBLE for new players like me who immediately regret their purchase and feel ripped off. If you can ignore justa. Few of the issues mentioned above the PVP is fun and the questing is all fully voice acted and fun. Just a shame the dev team seems like they don’t give a shi* about the player base.

The only previous experience I have had with MMO's was WoW and I only played that for maybe a month if that. I did NOT enjoy ESO for several reasons. First of all, the quests are relatively uninteresting and not compelling. Second, it really isn't an open world: if you stray too far from your origin at a low level you will not survive long at all. Third, you are pretty much forced in to crafting your items because you cannot buy specific items. You cannot buy ore or ingots. You have to search for ore, mine it, then use it for crafting. If you want decent weapons or armor you have to spend hours and hours scouring the landscape to find the ore, mine it etc ... it becomes monotonous and a waste of time. Lastly the combat system is clunky and you are stuck with goofy special abilities to try to defeat your opponents. As a game, for me, it was a complete failure and I shelled out $80 to play it. Yes, I fell for the "Imperial Edition" figuring it would be a wise investment considering the hundreds (over a thousand) hours that I played Skyrim. I played this game maybe 60 hours before I gave up in disgust. I give it 3 points because the graphics are astounding, and the huge world is quite a feat of graphics and design. Unfortunately it's not a world worth staying in very long. Huge failure on the part of Bethesda and Zenimax as far as I'm concerned. I will think twice about shelling out my hard earned cash for future Elder Scrolls products, as it seem likely Skyrim was the jewel of the lot. (I have since attempted to play Oblivion and didn't last in that one more than maybe 3 hours ... I did not like it either.) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have stayed with this game for a year thru all of its hardships. and I must say, I am very disappointed. There has been little-no improvement over the last year to ESO. Yes there has been new content, and new content is all well and good, but improvements? No.

The PvE is boring and so easy that it is possible to one man world bosses and public dungeons, which are supposed to require a group to take on. The trials are a joke. they are nothing but blob up and spam crap. No strategy, no planning required, just run and gun. the Veteran content is boring, and is nothing but a long, tedious, mind numbing grind. The story too it does not even make sense, one is forced to go thru the other alliances story lines, making it difficult to find a reason to make characters of other factions, and it is just lazy. the player will spend more time watching that slow XP bar chug along than actually enjoying the content once the player completes level 49 and enters the veteran ranks,

PvP is an utter joke. It cannot support hundreds of players at once. In truth, it can barely support 40 players on the screen at once. As soon as a huge force of players start fighting, the game literally turns into Microsoft Powerpoint. The lag is atrocious, and has been around for almost a year with little done or attempted to fix it. There are numerous cheats(such as getting thru outpost and keep walls without knocking them down, which ZOS has confirmed is an exploit) that are downright abused with little-no consequence. The cheat I mentioned above has been done for about 6-8 months now. As soon as someone provides video evidence on the forums, it is closed due to the "name and shame" policy. ZOS would rather ignore evidence than fix the issues. The game is a cheaters paradise, and has made it a joke to play.

The balance in PvP is non-existent. the game is currently dominated by infinite resource builds(and that has sadly found its way into blackwater blade) throwing any kind of strategic resource management out the window. This, combined with block casting, low Time to kills, and one shot wonder builds finding their way into the game, has turned ESO PvP into an ancient 3rd person era of Call of Duty, with blocking. No strategy, just hold down block and spam abilities. its pathetic.

The worst part? the developers simply do not care. ZOS ignores any evidence of cheating, they let bugs and game breaking exploits stay in the game for a ridiculous period of time, and they would rather "upgrade" their "crown store(aka cash shop) than work on the actual game. ZOS lets issues remain in PvE and PvP for far to long, and do not fix them in a satisfactory rate.

I give this a 3/10 because I have played it for a year and because it is an elder scrolls game. Do not get this game unless you are a die-hard elder scrolls fan.

The game has insane potential, but at this point in time should not be considered a finished product for purchase, chiefly due to technical flaws. They seem to lack preparedness with the security and integrity of the client as well, as there are often periods of the day when there are more automated bots and hackers than there are normal players.

This game is a major foot in the wrong direction for the series as it contains none of the atmosphere, charm, complex combat and open-world freedom as its predecessors.

I hate to say it but I get the feeling this game has been one massive money grab aimed at the lowest common denominator.

What Bethesda should have done is worked on a game like Skyrim but perhaps with 2-4 player co-op.

I cannot forgive them for what they did to the series.

But all the major ones are voiced by the distinctive voices we heard in Skyrim. So distinctive in fact that hearing the same ones on character after character begins to melt them all into the one waxy image in the mind's eye. Add to that bodies that do not move when you are speaking to an NPC and you are interacting with at best what I describe as a clothed upright log. Also the game is full of bugs. the bugs get patched and this opens up the way for more bugs. Disgustingly the game has an autoban feature. For instance say too much, even via helping other players and this broken auto ban feature will see it as spam and ban you without even the decency of an email to let you know they stole your game from under you. Or fall thru one of the many holes the developers left in this bugged out world and you can be banned for cheating. Don't expect an email to notify you they banned you, you are left to try and get fail after fail attemps logging into the game the following day wondering why you cannot log in. It is criminal. Then you are left with WEEKS, in the case of many players, trying to get some answers out of support. They don't seem to care and they are giving the impression they do not want us playing their game. Sadly I have found Elder Scrolls Online seriously wanting. I never see two or more players grouped up tackling PVE missions for example as you will see in Guild Wars 2. It's just single players running around, mostly not helping others (unless there is something in it for them), The loot system is another bone of contention. Chests abound, but arguments avail as it's first come first serve. If you want a fun immersive community game to play as an MMO then I suggest you look farther afield. ESO is lacking in just about everything, the graphics are not up to the latest that you will find elsewhere and the combat feels off, askew. Don't waste your money here. Expand

And navigation is done by using letter keys. Why anyone would thing mixing three spots on a keyboard is a good idea is beyond me.

Then questing is terrible because due to a lack of polish you often do not even know what quest you are doing or what you should be doing. This game still has hopes of being fixed but needs to handed off to another company.

I took a vacation a week off work a month ago and wanted a new game to get into playing. It has been a while since i've gotten lost in a mmo such as runescape or world of warcraft. I love rpgs such as skyrim and witcher 3 yet interacting with other players removes that "lonely" feeling we all get time to time playing a single player game.
I played this game for two days straight and I must admit, the "new game woah this is cool!" phase lasted for 2 hours. I became very bored with this want to be mmo. ALL YOU DO is go talk to this npc, oh and then that npc tells you to go talk to this npc, and then find this npc and talk to them, and you might kill a couple monsters running from npc to npc. Am i being a Debbie Downer? No I am stating all I expereniced playing this game for two days. I reached level 10 and quit.

The graphics are pretty good for an mmo, but other than that the game is so "empty" like a desert. Their is very little to do other than zone chat with other people about real life things. I have tried picking this game up over and over harder than ever, because I WANT that go to MMO that I think about at work all day, I WANTED to come home and get lost in the world of elder scrolls online. But unfortunately it is too dull and boring to.
Try this game at your own risk, even with the free subscription this game is worth no more than 5 bucks. It feels so unfinished you will want your money back worse than bringing home a game and opening it up to find broken disk. Thank you for reading my review, I am sorry i sound so negative, but then again, you want to read a honest review right?

    Main negative aspects:
-Many bots, even on the higher maps and strong reliance on the client for security. There is no focus on removing this problem.
-Laggy combat; laggiest that I have ever seen in an MMO. (I played SWTOR, Flyff and some others)
-No way to effectively grind; 2 exp per enemy when grinding, 50 when you kill a lone enemy, or a continuous 20 exp per kill when grinding with 2 players. That is insane.
-Only 5 hotbar-able skills that me long back to SWTOR, when I strung many skills together
-Few if any buffs for healers to cast on teammates.

    -Main positive aspects:
-Good, spoken, dialogues on many if not all characters.
-Interesting quests, very few repetitive 'kill X of Y' or Gather 'X of Z' quests.
    -Familiar TES environments

The main 'distinguishing' feature combat and gameplay wise from other MMO's is that you need to aim and can miss. However, I find this a large downside, since it is hard to play this way and far more straining on your mouse arm.

Combat in this game is exciting, and moves the genre forward not only through versatile, dynamic builds, but also by implementing dodge and aim as opposed to basic tab targeting/macro mashing. The use of instances and similar zone hubs is disappointing, but the sheer size of each zone gives creedence to exploring. The guild stores are interesting compared to the standard AH, and being able to join up to 5 guilds ensures finding a speedy way to buy and sell; I would like the functionality to be more streamlined and easier to use, but hopefully as with Rift, these improvements will be implemented easily within the first year.

To sum up, this game has some great mechanics behind it, good pvp, good crafting, good community, and beautiful world. The rocky launch remains unfortunate but the game is enjoyable despite. This might be the most grown up, mature mmorpg to date, and while not groundbreaking, it manages to revive a feeling of freshness to an increasingly stale, over-saturated market.

You are very restricted into your character class. In most elderscrolls games if you want to be rogue you can learn magic and increase your fighting skills. In ESO you cannot access sorcerer abilities EVERY as a knight or nightblade.

The only time this every felt like an ES game was when I decided to go fishing. because it's what I wanted to do and not what a long chain of NPCs were telling me to do.

Again, you cannot pickpock as a rogue! you cannot kill every NPC in sight, you cannot loot every piece of equipment off an enemy you kill. Your given a RANDOM item that usually sucks. Almost all loot you find on bodies is worthless and garbage so there is no point in running around fighting things if that's what you want to do to make a living.

If you go to loot the 1 cabinet in the house that you can actually click on your given a RANDOM piece of garbage.

I played through almost all betas and was surprised to see that there were still so many bugs after months of being able to fix them. some quests just deadend and you are stuck in your Area and cannot leave because it's one that you must complete to leave.

The story was compelling and well thought out. I truely wanted to explore this ingame universe for the story but the gameplay was unacceptable!
