Great game i don't know why anyone is hating on it but i would suggest just look at videos online and see the game play for yourself. I was a little nervous to taking my favorite franchise and making it an mmo but the did it almost flawlessly and its an amazing game. Just try it out and you won't regret it. :D

Don't listen to the negatives. This game looks better than vanilla Skyrim & the quests are a lot more fun.

Oh yeah Its also 600+ hours of gameplay if you play all 3 alliances with 25 maps that are about 1/2 the size of Skyrim.

If you're looking for a epic adventure look no further.

This by far the most impressive MMO I have played. Very smooth and responsive character control and combat, excellent visual presentation and a simple interface for new players, with advanced features for the hardcore. Definitely subscription worthy. I don't see myself playing anything else for a long, long time.

If you enjoy reading lore in your MMOs, you're going to love this game. Otherwise, you're going to be bored out of your mind.

I didn't care for it very much. It lacks a lot of modern MMO standards. As a matter of fact, it feels like games I played in the 90s.

I'd gone into the game not expecting great things, having read some scathing reviews online.

Boy were they wrong. In fact in many cases they turned out to be factually inaccurate. Why people would feel the need to lie about a game is beyond me and seems rather pathetic. The game is brilliant. The vastly inflating numbers of people jumping in say it all. As someone who played WoW for

Boy were they wrong. In fact in many cases they turned out to be factually inaccurate. Why people would feel the need to lie about a game is beyond me and seems rather pathetic. The game is brilliant. The vastly inflating numbers of people jumping in say it all. As someone who played WoW for MANY years, and has consistently failed to find a game to replace it since, I finally feel this is it. The more you play it the more depth this game gives you, and the more surprises are revealed. It really is a fantastic game.

The graphics are beautiful for an MMO, and have lovely detail and appeal. I love the way you can branch out and explore, and the game rewards you for it. Side quests, hidden goodies, lore for mages guild progression. I love how it's not like those boring MMOs where you have to kill 10 mobs, collect 10 parts etc all the time.

To not like this game would be near impossible. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that more games should be like this.

As a Skyrim fan there were parts that made me laugh - Sheogorath is brilliant and funny. Questing for the wabberjack was great, and the icy tomb was a massive Skyrim throwback, but has all the parts you wish were in Skyrim too.

Long term appeal is pretty much a sure thing. I'm not going to cover the massive amount of planned content to be added to the game, a huge benefit of a subscription based title, which will ensure longer term appeal. The current content is plenty big enough already. To boot, the flexibility in character design is HUGE. So many different combinations and builds, I've already started experimenting with alts, and loving every one of them. That alone is something that hasn't had much appeal since the days of WoW.

Bugs - there are a few at the moment. That is to be expected. Despite that, I'm giving it a 10 - the key bit for me is that I see them being worked on very quickly and they are actively tackling them. For me that means a game that will rapidly improve and grow. With all the game has to offer already, this is the icing on the cake.

The voice acting is brilliant, and in some cases hilarious. Really a very very good job all round.

Simply look into it for yourself or ask around - odds are if you don't know someone who already owns it, you will do shortly. Take a look for yourself before being swayed by empty reviews such as "It's boring because I find all MMOs boring"

Therefore this review is not tainted by the idiotic outcry that this is not the follow up to Skyrim, or by the fact that I cannot afford the monthly sub.
This game breathes a certain degree of fresh air into the MMO genre and also is a welcome addition to the Elder Scrolls canon. Firstly the graphics for an MMO are first rate - certainly on par with vanilla Skyrim. I noticed quite a few negative comments about this area and suspect that these people either have a very poor rig or have not actually played the game. The actual graphical style is also very mature compared to some other MMO's and certainly matches the visual flavour of both Skyrim and Oblivion.
Another feather in the games cap is combat which is very fluid and satisfying. Instead of just mindlessly going through certain rotations you can attack, defend and dodge just like in Skyrim with basic attacks which are backed up by various other special abilities on the hotbar which makes it a very engaging system in both PvE and PvP.
Character development is also very well thought out with a huge variety of options available. This makes levelling very satisfying and enjoyable especially as most skills and powers have great visual flair and effectiveness.
The quests themselves are varied and attempt to depart from the "kill 10 of this and collect 10 of that" which you see in the majority of other offerings in the genre. All are voice acted and quite interesting helping to develop the Elder Scrolls lore. I have actually listened through every quest so far which is probably the first time I have done so in any game.
The only issue I have currently with the game is the odd bout of lag where controls can become unresponsive. However, it is very early days for an MMO and the developers appear to have good form so far in fixing any issues that crop up.
All in all I am very impressed. I have rated a 10 to offset the normal small minded agenda "reviewers" and would probably rate this game an 8 normally. It has great potential, and once it hits consoles one wonders whether it will gain enough momentum to finally put the creaking WOW down for good.

Let me put it this way: This game can not be fully explained, only experienced. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and combat makes you feel like a badass.

Combat is incredible. I'll be attacking a guy when I see another enemy with a huge 2 handed sword rearing back for a power attack. I bash the guy I'm fighting, then turn to block the power attacking coward to the side of me, and I hear an EXTREMELY satisfying "CLANK" onto my shield, effectively stunning him. I then counter him with a power slash of my own, knocking him, in his vulnerable state, to the ground. Honestly, the combat feels like Assassin's Creed at times, when you're actually doing it right, with blocks and rolls.

And the rolls come in handy. Some enemy telegraphs are very punishing. Some of them deal devastating damage, while other will knock you down for several seconds, leaving you at the mercy of enemy blows.

Magic combat? Awesome. You can feel very glass cannon-like as you root enemies and hide behind the tank, or you can get up close and personal. Actually, that leads me to one of the coolest part of the game..

Skill lines. Yes, there are 4 classes in the game. That means very little. You play however the Hell you want to play. I did a dungeon with a sorcerer who was wearing full plate armor and a 2 handed mace. She would charge the enemy, knock them down, strike them with LIGHTING from the SKY, and then knock the enemy back on their ass with an uppercut of her giant mace. Yes. She was a sorcerer. Well, she was a "sorcerer".

The Nightblade class is probably perceived as the "rogue" class, but I've seen Nightblades in full plate, focusing on health stealing skills from the nightblade siphoning tree, and they weren't rogue at all. In fact, you can make an amazing Shadowknight. Cutting enemies down with a greatsword while stealing their health with DOTs to sustain your carnage.

Want to make a ranger? Make a sorcerer to summon a powerful pet, and go deep into the bow and arrow skill line. Congratulations. You're a badass Ranger.

Any race can be any class, use any skill line, wear any armor, and use any weapon. However, you must make some sort of commitment to unlock your full potential. Heavy armor skill line helps survival, but it doesn't really help you with mana efficiency or spell effectiveness. How do we fix this? Enchant your heavy armor with caster stats! And how about MAKING your own armor?

The ESO crafting system is the best crafting system I've ever seen in any MMO, ever. It is so fun, easy, rewarding, and you can make so many different looking sets of armor. You can create and wear FULL nordic medium armor, or FULL orcish plate, or you can wear dark elf leather armor with an Argonian cloth hood.

This game is all about immersion and freedom. When you ask for DPS for a dungeon and a dragonknight in cloth shows up, you have no right to say "Hey, DKs don't wear cloth!" Just wait, that person may shock you with their unique playstyle.

Buy a horse, upgrade it. Find unique armor, destroy it at a forge to research it's traits so that you can now MAKE that type of armor, adventure around zones doing the huuuuge number of fun quests, go do the beautiful dungeons, kill some critter and use their guts to fish off of a pier. Use the fish to make that fish stew that you just learned from the recipe that you found in the chest that was hidden under that bridge over the lava pool.

Oh.. The chests.. When you find a chest, your heart skips a beat. Be ready, though. You must pick the chests. If you fail, someone may be right behind you to steal your loot!

This game is borderline perfect, it's worth 15 bucks a month, and I honestly feel sorry for people who love MMOs and/OR Skyrim and aren't playing this game.

Do it, guys. This game is GOLDEN. 10 out of 10.

My only complaint at first was that my shield was very small.. Guess what? It was a noob shield. When I got level 34 and started crafting with dwarven ore, my shield got bigger. So, for now, I can't complain.

Honestly one of the closest, most heartfelt games I've played this whole years. The gameplay itself is also rather unique, with it being completely real time and very open to character builds. While there are few classes, it is very focused on doing whatever the player feels to be fitting for their character or for their playstyle. Mages wear heavy armor, stealthy dps characters can become lifestealing tanks, daedric summoners can also use bows, cc tanks can become healers. Any way you want to play, at least at this point in the game, is effective in the pve so long as you stay coherent to its intentions rather than trying too many things at once.

Fact is, while subscription based mmo's usually fall to microtransaction systems, no matter how it's presented or how you purchase this game, it is a worthy experience and a breath of fresh air for the mmo genre. While no WoW killer, like anything could even kill it, it offers a unique experience while still giving you the nostalgia and wonder of an Elder Scrolls game.

The combat is terrible, Bethesda had a fluid system of combat with "Skyrim". The hits looked natural and the the system was simple yet efficient. In a fast paced game it is best to apply the K.I.S.S. method to the attack system and try to make the fighting as simple as possible. With ESO, this was blatently ignored. Instead, the developers seemed to designer the ultimate "Mortal Combat"/RPG failure. Power attacks coming from a nord with a claymore do very little in opposition to my hot keyed "special move number three button attack" which looked like yellow "Wolverine" claw marks across my screen. What the attack was supposed to be? Not a clue, but it did more damage than a driven power attack from a sword designed around it's own weight so whatever. On top of that, they added a dodge function; which in principle is great idea but never seemed to work when multiple enemies randomly respawned and surrounded me; thus killing me before I could register what happened.
Now we come to the graphics; when buying this game, I had a bit of worry in regards to my 3 yr. old stock Toshiba PC handling the game. Don't worry though, because I was okay thanks to the latest graphics that the year 2004 had to offer. Though, in ESO's defense, it doesn't look as bad as "Star Wars: The Old Republic".
Lastly, I have to say that the quests are my biggest complaint. The friendly NPC's of my faction seemed to be the most inept people in existence (though, if they were able to actually complete their missions then there wouldn't be a game). How one would expect your faction to survive in reality when they can't even stop bickering as to who gives who first aid during an enemy attack is beyond me. I understand that Bethesda didn't want to make a "kill 100 enemies" game but it's as if they think that their fanbase has the IQ of a six year old child. Also, this isn't like other sandbox style games where you can (normally) kill minor quest giver NPC's if you don't like them, such as a racist dark elf.
In closing, if you want freedom this isn't your game; but if you're cool with goofball combat and a beat to death plot then this is the game for you.

So I've been playing this game for awhile now. And I've determined that I don't really like it. You can't effectively solo this game as a 'every build is a good build' because of how incompetent the developers are. Dragonknight? Nope. Can we say walking target dummy?

Templar? Unless you go with a healing tree you're pretty much cannonfodder.

    Nightblade? You're everyone's punching bag.

And on top of that the consistent and constant issues with the server's stability AS WELL as the fact that they don't even BOTHER to give you forewarning before they decide to go "TAKING DOWN THE SERVER NOW!" so you have to literally drop EVERYTHING at THAT instant, no matter what you're doing.

The numerous bugs and the clunky UI and class system doesn't even make this feel like a true Elder Scrolls game. It feels like a crappy attempt at trying to make an MMO that was different and failing miserably.

I can't even say that there's any kind of perks to crafting your own gear--you'd think that crafting crap would make the game easier, right? WRONG! It only puts you on BARELY even ground with the enemy.

And then there's Tanzelwil. Quite possibly the most unbalanced segment I've ever encountered in any game. Just put a fragging "GROUP" tag next to the quest, because... seriously, you can't solo this crap. The enemies hit way too hard, have way too much health, and you only have split seconds to move out of crap before your health is nuked to NOTHING.

Overall, I have to say that this game is an insult to the Elder Scrolls theme because of very BAD gameplay design. If I want to play another DArk Souls clone, I'll go play Guild Wars 2. Thanks.

I don't recommend this game to anyone until they fix the bugs, unless you like dying repeatedly to complete a so-called solo quest.

The major breaking point however is the fact that it is a P2P concept. That in itself is not a bad thing - if the support and active moderation of the game satisfies it, - however when compared to other mmo games of the same genre, it simply does not offer enough to satisfy P2P vs. F2P, so i predict the game to become F2P within a year - along with all the nasty compromises done for that.

the freedom of single player elder scroll games is compromised in favour of the re-spawning and mostly static world of a mmo - so the player has little impact on the world as such ... as is expected. all in all, elder scrolls online does not reinvent the wheel - but it does what many before it did fairly well - for a price.

One thing I noticed after creating multiple characters since early access is that a little more than half the quests are not only named the same but you do the same thing (difference being the NPC race being modified to fit what ever faction you joined). At least SWTOR had a lot more variety quest wise. One problem this game suffers from like SWTOR did was having these giant open environments with little to fill these spaces. Also, the chat system is not very polished as well as a few common aesthetics that other MMORPGs have down well. It seems this game like many new MMORPGs that are being released now are being being developed by developers who pump too much focus and money into a fully voiced game with top-notch voice acting versus focusing on actual playable content and features. World of Warcraft didn't get its lasting appeal because of its voice acting (which is very minimal compared to these other MMORPGs nowadays). WoW's lasting appeal stems from its wide variety of features, world spaces filled with creatures, items and details, less restrictive environmental exploration, and good community activities even when it began and had no expansions. The combat is alright and is much like a cross between TESIII Morrowind mixed with Oblivion with a typical "select your special moves" element. Overall, this game does not warrant its $59.99 price tag and its $15 monthly fee. Expand

The game is an awesome piece of art. Interesting quests with variety, unique crafting system, beautiful dungeons, great combat system. I've played many MMOs (including a lot of triple A) and this one does stand out. All those who scared a 0, are probably people who loved TESO and they expected to play another single player game, sorry but this is an online game, it's an MMO, and it's a great one.

First person is nice, but combat is horrible and clunky and not smooth at all. Also the free month playtime is being mis-sold to an extent. You still have to let them charge you for the month even though I am under the impression you receive your money back, it still means you have to have another $15/£9 to spare, which is extremely unfair on users with less money to throw around at an already expensive game. Good customer support. Poor voice acting, but at least all quests are voice acted. Good crafting system.

While some fans (who have probably not played the game past the opening levels of the BETA, or haven't played it at all) will probably come here just to **** all over the game, but the truth is, it is a deep and complex RPG with an MMO approach and lots Elder Scrolls Mechanics mixed in. It is also important to note that the game looks visually wonderful, however, the best thing about it, besides its fantastic PvP is the story. There has never been so many good stories in an MMO or an Elder Scrolls game. Each of the 15 zones have their own main stories, beside the numerous side quests and these stories are really, really good and even get you invested into the characters and make you think about the decisions, even though they may not affect the gameplay that much.

Boot line; the game is just really, REALLY fun. The quests are fun, group dungeons are fun, the PvP is fun, the combat is engaging past the first zone at least), the graphics are pretty good, the classic TES exploration is there, the story is engaging... I could just go on and on about how good I find this game to be. Yes, it does come with a bugfest and that's pretty much to be expected, since it IS an MMO (and a TES game at that). This game deserves my 10/10.

You are actually rewarded for exploring, as opposed to just, teleporting around. Love the Combat system, no more point and click boredom.

Some interesting things such as the treasure maps, they are kind of like the Red Dead Redemption treasure maps, which make it a lot of fun, and can be quite difficult. The PVP system is top notch in my opinion, it has a very unique game play style in the sense that you actually have goals for your faction, invading a keep, defending a keep, keeping your factions elder scrolls, putting up one of your Faction's players as emperor, etc. As opposed to the typical MMO PVP, where one just runs around and kills other players where the only goal is your K/D count.

Did I mention that the PvE is actually worth playing? No more plowing through a hoard of 15 enemies and coming out with 3/4's of your health. From my experience, this is a game where if you accidentally bait more than 1 or 2 creatures...you are Dead. Death has a nice penalty as well, just like in all elderscrolls games, you die, all of your items lose durability, and can be very expensive to have them repaired, which adds more of a " Oh crap, I cannot die" feel to the game, that it seems many games lack.

There is also end game content which i have not reached beyond the PVP, Some of them are known as "Veteran dungeons", as well as "adventure zones" Which are supposed to include up to 150 hours of Questing per faction. ( each faction has a different "adventure zone" That makes it 450 Hours of End game content between the three factions)

Overall, i recommend it, yes there is a monthly subscription, but really, it is hte only way a game like this can work, massive server clusters aren't cheap, and neither are the people who administer and help to maintain them. Plus let's not kid ourselves, we all know a bit of it goes tot he higher ups for a nice bonus, but that is called Reality.

P.S. I have been in the Beta since Early November, I have plenty of game time logged. I am not someone who played simply for 5 minutes, then decided to write a review. I remember when the Voices, weren't even filled with Voice actors...

All interiors look the same, even when you get to a new quest zone (which will take you about 24 hours of /played per zone). Dungeon layouts are always the same, house layouts are always the same, there are only two or three tilesets throughout the game. Giving you flashbacks of Dragon Age 2 yet?

Quests are boring, they try really hard to keep it interesting with the fully-voiced quest dialogue, but that doesn't remove the problem of going into the same layouts with the same tilesets over and over and over again.

Group dungeons are abysmal, as the "Holy Trinity" mechanic (tank/dps/healer) has pretty much no depth. There aren't aggro tables, tanks can't hold aggro on anything, which means they're pretty much useless in dungeons. Range is best here because they can kite mobs endlessly, if you're a melee DPS or healer expect to die over and over because they didn't bother to build a proper PvE experience for groups. PvE in this game is really just a crappy single-player experience with a $15/month fee, which I view as a single player game that charges you for its DRM.

PvP is the laggy zergfest that Dark Age of Camelot was, the difference is DAoC came out in 2001, this is 2014, why can't ESO do any better?

The game is called "Elder Scrolls" but doesn't feel like "Elder Scrolls" at all. There's no Crime system in the game, Stealth is abysmal so if you like playing Thief types in the other ES games, you won't enjoy it here. The Mage and Fighter guilds are criminally underutilized. The skill system feels like Guild Wars. It doesn't have the sandbox feel of the ES franchise, this is another linear MMO that's trying to keep the mass of people in the same herd and shuffle them along to endgame. Loot upgrades are boring and almost all of the equipment looks the same. The game isn't very good at delivering a sense of progression.

There is no central Auction House in the game, instead the game has Guild Stores. Each guild can have a maximum of 500 members, you can be in 5 guilds at a time, but if you list something in Guild A's store, Guild 2 - 5 will not see it. This means you're only ever listing items that 500 people can ever see (assuming all 500 members are active players). Because of this, you're better off vendoring most of the stuff you'd otherwise be listing in the Auction House in a proper MMO.

Tons of progress-stopping bugs and glitches. Some people have no issues, others seem to be getting nothing but issues. This has been a problem with RPGs since the beginning, but in an MMO, you can't just wait, your subscription is ticking. Can't finish a quest? Move on to the next one. But all too commonly, you move on from one glitched quest to find another glitched quest to find another glitched quest. You can't even grind to try and get a sense of progression when your quest book is filled with broken quests, because monster XP is abysmal - you can't even grind group dungeons for XP because you only get 1 xp per monster kill. They did this because they wanted you to be out in the world questing and going through their storyline, not grinding mobs to get to 50 ASAP and skipping through all their work. This wouldn't be a problem, except what they *want* everyone to do be doing, is what's broken most of the time.

Last time a big-name video game company released an MMO this broken because they thought they were so big they didn't think they needed to care, they had to fire the original staff, take the game off the shelves, tell everyone they were "sorry", and spend two years rebuilding the game. That saw the game re-released into something that was *much* better, and that's pretty much what I feel Elder Scrolls Online needs to do. This isn't a matter of issues that can be ironed out with some patches or addressed with a major content patch or expansion, it's that the entire game is in such a terrible state that the only way to fix it is to take everything apart and try again. This is just an abysmal piece of work, and I wouldn't trust anyone who had a hand in the making of this game with serving me my morning coffee.

I've played tons of MMO's ranging from Ultima, WoW, Tera, and SWTOR. I've long been waiting it's release, being a big fan of the Franchise and the developers as well. What I saw was a game that sought to separate itself from other MMO's in very unique ways. The crafting system for instance can be very time consuming and in depth... and all-together it offers an entirely new facet to play. You could spend (if you wanted) an entire day trying to hunt down resources to create the perfect potion, or the right runes to create a glyph for your chest piece. Another appealing feature is the stability of the player economy. Whereas many games have resorted to the Free to Play method (with pay to win being a large factor in many of the aforementioned equations), TESO sticks to subscription. Unfortunate, but when you realize what they've done in terms of limiting players ability to rapidly acquire resources through paying to win... It seems well worth it. There is no public auction house, and returns from crafting and selling to vendors are minimal at best (so minimal at times that it's truly frustrating and seemingly unfair). The purchasing end is just the opposite, usually resulting in a very empty gold purse. This system encourages players to seek the selling and buying wares from one another as oppose to getting them from vendors.

These systems are how they separate themselves and try to stay true to a dedicated and undiluted play experience, which has my deepest admirations in it's practice. Now, as far as playing the game is concerned... this is where you experience the most setbacks. I really enjoy playing the game, it's awesome and some might refer to the combat system as "Clunky". Instead of the traditional "spam tab" to switch between targets, they resorted to a free aim combat system like TERA's. So in other words, dodging and finding your target is left up to your eye hand coordination. While it isn't as polished, it's still just like Skyrim in the sense that your moves will go where you point them. If you can't handle the prospect of free aiming your fireballs and arrows at targets, don't play this game. The game is still in it's birthing stages, barely above release... so of course it's going to need dedicated user feedback and ideas to make it that much better.

Now, the most important part, and my second biggest gripe.... the bugs. I was willing to let most of the first ones I encountered over my first few days of play slide. After more days of play however, I encountered more bugs... and more bugs. It reminded me of the console release of Skyrim all over again. Once I got above level 15 and to the second area is when they really started becoming frequent. So much so that I grudgingly started submitting user feed back, switching my attitude from constructive to very frustrated, to seething. After encountering bug after bug, and seeing others experience the same in zone chat, I started to wonder if they even really tested the quest lines let alone the areas themselves.

This of course leads to my biggest gripe. Downtime. A game that offers a entirely new MMO experience is one that I will gladly attach myself to for hours a day. Especially on my days off. As any seasoned MMO player is aware, most MMO's have scheduled downtime. TESO doesn't. They drop the servers whenever they feel like and it can be anywhere from two hours to six hours. Unless you regularly check the forums for spontaneously scheduled maintenance, there's no telling when you might be met with the dreadful "The EU and NA Megaservers are currently down" message. My days off vary widely, never being set from week to week. Yet, as long as I've played this game, they've managed to do maintenance on every single one. So when I wake up, looking forward to the progress I'll make on my character, I'm brought to a grinding halt by the announcement that I can't play as intended. This has happened on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday so far. I'm sure that if I have an off day on Wednesday next week, it will be then too.

I really would like to rate this game higher, but the gripes I presented hinder the gameplay so much I can't bring myself to do so. It's long past time developers stop peddling their wares when they haven't been properly tested and even finished. When I go to a car dealership, I don't expect to buy a new car without windows and airbags with the promise of their installation in the following weeks. Why should this be any different.

If you can look past it's faults however, and ignore the bugs and downtime... this MMO is a goldmine of potential. They just need to dig a little deeper, and stop being so reckless with the excavation.

Fake. If i had to wrap up the Elder Scrolls Online in one word that is the word I would use: Fake. Everything in this game feels fake and artificial. It honestly feels like someone took the real Tamriel from the real Elder Scrolls games and made a Theme Park of it and then posted actors there as the npc:s and enemies.

It is impossible to take anything happening in this game seriously

It is impossible to take anything happening in this game seriously and while immersion have always been one of the main components in real TES games, immersion is the one thing that is lacking the most in this game. The whole game is just an unimaginable bland clone of every other WoW style MMO out there with a TES skin on it. There is no love or passion that have gone into this project, it was solely made just to cash in and milk the IP Bethesda have created with TES.

This game feels like it is cheapening and a big disgrace to the whole franchise and world that Bethesda have built over the years. It is if taking it all and then throwing it in the toilet and putting a steaming dump on it all. It does not help that everything it does is made to make money and you always feel dirty playing it from all the disgusting greedy practices that Zenimax is using to squeeze you of your dollars, as is is blatantly obvious that is the main focus when they made this. Nothing in this game gives the impression that it was made with passion or love and with the focus or intent of making something groundbreaking or fantastic. It was purely made with corporate greed in mind.

Being an "Elder Scrolls" MMO meant a compromise between the beloved elder scrolls game mechanics and the mechanics necessary to make an MMO work. Unfortunately, this compromise ended with almost nobody happy. The MMO crowd- or specifically, the WOW crowd, was actively cheering for this game to die from the inception. The Elder Scrolls crowd was disappointed by the lack of player housing, a crime system, the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. And of course, the game had its share of bugs. It had the stability issues found commonly in Bethesda games, with random crashes to desktop. It has the latency issues inherent in MMOs, with players missing blocks and counter attacks they should have gotten. It has, in true Elder Scrolls fashion, random incredibly imbalanced NPCs in solo missions. Then, of course, we have the glitches with unspawned NPCs or objects you need to interact with, which can only be fixed by relogging. You can and will fall through the floor. Getting stuck is also a common occurrence. Then of course, there is the infamous duping glitch, which ruined the in-game economy. From the standing of somebody who played (and was ambivalent to) Guild Wars 2, the game seems to be actively inconveniencing you. None of those convenient things like Trading Posts or 'deposit all collectables' buttons exist in this game. There is no option to dye your armor, or transmute your gear (unless you bought the Imperial edition, in which case you can transmute some of it). Most damning in my opinion, however, is the weak endgame. After you save the world (shocker), you are sent to another faction's area to do their mind- numbing faction quest-line, without the incentives of the main or guild stories to keep you going.. There is just no motivation to continue playing, and no reason to pay the subscription fee for another month. The "veteran dungeons" are simply the normal dungeons, with higher leveled enemies. The faction war is, depending on the server you chose, either a zergfest filled with AOE-spammers where battles are decided by sheer numbers, or it is a ghost town.
However, not everything in this game is bad. The combat is more skill- based than many other MMOs, although there is still no substitute for grinding gear in order to win. The game is immersive, fully voiced (which is a must for me), and with a good soundtrack. The quests are well-written, if somewhat... underwhelming at times. The graphics are nice, although not ground- breaking. You can choose between first and third-person, a choice between immersion and combat effectiveness. The crafting is an interesting system, although it can be tedious. The game has a nice soundtrack, and a large diverse world.

So in the end, the game is... decent. Definitely not bad, but not great. 7/10

This feel like an MMO that just came out about 2 years too early. Not that it's broken or anything, but for an MMO there simply isn't any content. Even for a single player TES game it's very simplistic, and doesn't even come close to it's predecessors, let alone being a good MMO, which by my ideals should be more grand than a single player game.

In ESO you have no housing, no economy

As an Elder Scrolls game this game is a 2. They tried to put some aspects of Elder Scrolls in it, but you will probably find it very difficult to find any of the magic that makes Elder Scrolls game's great in this game. If your an Elder Scrolls fan you should probably avoid this game like it's the plague. Maybe trying it out once it goes F2P.

As an RVR MMO this game is actually pretty good. That's because Zenimax basically lied to Bethsaida and told them they would develop a MMO version of the Elder Scrolls. Then turned around and obviously made DAOC II. Maybe they were hoping The Elder Scrolls tag would draw new players. Or maybe they just didn't have the money to fund a DAOC II. Whatever the case, if you haven't played Dark Ages of Camelot, or Warhammer. Basically they are Realm verses Realm games. Essentially having the players factions fight over territory. As a casual PVP fan, I found Warhammer's version of RVR to be great fun. It could be quite random and free flowing. Sometimes having hours of combat going between large groups of players. Warhammer had great rewards to keep the players involved. Though ultimately it's system had a fatal flaw because there were only 2 realms. The Elder Scrolls has tried to address this with 3 realms. Early on it seems to have worked. If you like RVR this game is at least a 7 to you. But remember in RVR type MMO's usually the PVE is just something to keep you busy when your not fighting in RVR.

The game is just as I remember it, a boring casual experience with no character. A generic grind which is sad, because they clearly put a lot of work into it and it does look decent. But the gameplay is just down right coma inducing.

The game is just as I remember it, a boring casual experience with no character. A generic grind which is sad, because they clearly put a lot of work into it and it does look decent. But the gameplay is just down right coma inducing.

1st problem right off the bat. There are only 5 classes to choose from? Yep, thats right, just 5. Okay, but there must be a lot of differences between them right? Nope. Its true they each have a class tree, but all the classes have access to about 20 trees and as it turns out, most builds end up using very few skills from the class trees and most will come from the other ones. Which means that you can literally make a character with any class, use common trees, and they will play exactly the same... think about that for a minute. That said, some classes give advantages to roles they play, like the Dragonknight who has some unique tank skills but even with these distinctions, there is very little to choose from and each class can be boiled down to 2 builds. Either its a magic build, or a stamina build. Rarely, someone will make a Dragonknight tank with just health instead but thats the only exception. To summarize, all the people running around are carbon copies of each other with little to no variation. Mind you, we are in 2018. I expect this back in the late 90s, and maybe early 2000's, but not in a modern game.

Next, they did nothing to push the front on questing, or combat. Quests are fairly well written and voice acted but they are still the generic quests you see in every RPG since the dawn of time. The real weakness here is that questing is trivially easy. Its so easy in fact, that I would say that this is the most casual MMO I have ever played, much more so than WoW and even more than GW2. One possible reason is that the entire game is level scaled to the player. This means you can go anywhere and enemies will be within your level. And despite looking different, most enemies are the same and are trivially easy to dispatch which makes running around very boring. GW2 handled this much better by only scaling down rather than scaling up which takes away any feeling of progression in the game. This was the big problem with Oblivion and to a lesser extent, Skyrim as well. Level scaling is a big problem and should be used very sparsely in an MMO. As for combat itself, well the skills are what you expect from any MMO. Block, roll, fast attack and heavy attack. Nothing new or exciting in this game. There is a cloaking class and a pet class with, laughably, no pet controls making it somewhat tedious to play. Dont expect to see anything unique, there is nothing of the sort.

Other features are also lacking. Crafting is a minor step up from the normal select a recipe and click combine, now you can use more resources to increase quality to a defined limit. Still nothing like older games such as EQ2 or SWG. If you are looking to make cool stuff, this is not the game for you. Its entirely too easy with the only limit being the grind to collect materials since there is no easy auction house to buy them. I actually like the fact that there is no auction house in this game, but they players found ways around it by creating trading guilds. The game allows you to join 5 guilds so you can always join several. Unfortunately, the guild shops dont seem to work. At least when I tried them they never seemed to have inventory. Perhaps I had to be in the guild to see their items which is actually very silly. If someone sets up a shop, it should be available to everyone. EQ1 had this feature and it would have been awesome if they didnt also add a search feature to take the immersion out of it.

Overall, its a very average MMO. It lacks any character and has no defining features. The one big plus is that it went F2P recently so you can pick it up cheap and play without ever subscribing. Unfortunately, without a subscription, you lose some very important features such as bigger bank and more space for trade supplies. As it turns out, this game is insanely loot heavy and you will run out of bank space in the 1st hour and this is how they hook you to subscribe. You can manage it with some alts if you want so its still manageable but it is a chore. There is another review that covers this problem below.

Give it a shot if you are itching for an MMO but dont invest too much into it. GW2 is superior since it has some unique features and WoW is still viable to this day. Even EQ2 is leagues better in some ways, especially crafting.

If you are going to buy this, make sure you get the retail box copy! The box copies come with a lot of features included without extra cost and they are cheaper. For example, the digital version of Morrowind costs more than the box copy and does not include the Warden class. You have to buy that separately...

So here we have just the same situation - TES's unimitatable depth and spirit combined with MMO's primitiveness gives us a very strange and mixed product.

Is it worth to play? Undoubtedly, yes. Is it the game of high quality? Yes, indeed. It is much more interesting and well-looking than many MMOs, but it seriously lacks the very essence of TES - the thoughtful and deep gameplay. It does not look like the proper Elder Scrolls game we have seen before...

Maybe, this attempt is not so bad (as it is very difficult to combine almost incompatible things), maybe all of us needed to feel it how to play TES not only in the SP mode, but... I hope that Bethesda and Zenimax will finally come around and make us a truly Elder Scrolls game. TES VI. Please. We are all waiting for it.

Five years later and the game still looks like a visual bugs galore noticeable at the very first hour of gameplay. Did I forget to mention that this game doesn't have a single Asian server? The story is just a mess that can't be followed, the classes are tasteless, the rewards aren't satisfying, the graphics are dated and the overall feel of the game is just depressing. It is big, it has heart, it's fun, full of life thanks to an amazing community, ever evolving, there is always something new to find, you can play whatever kind of combat style you want and change it later on, graphics are neat, active support, etc.
Addons make this game even better so now i have nothing to complain about the core experience.
Played it on PS4 first and switched to PC. Why? Just because community is a huge part in MMORPGs (imo) and it was annoying to communicate on console, also the addons made sense to me at higher level and if you play regularly.

ESO Plus is expensive for what you get though (that's why 8/10). And unfortunately if you play ESO with "purpose" at least the crafting bag is needed, regular bank and inventory space is not enough for a chronic looter... also the cosmetics or whatever you wanna buy from the crown store are also a little expensive. But that's optional, so, there you go.

Over 6 years on the market in a fast paced industry and ESO is still relevant and highly enjoyable to play. Other MMORPGs could never hold my attention this long. Good job.

The developers of the game take player feedback seriously, unlike some companies, and they take great strides in pleasing the player-base for the game. But the company lacks in knowing what's more important to focus on fixing and they tend to lean heavily in releasing more stuff like mounts, costumes, and dlc's in the cash-shop rather then the opposite.

    Overall though:

I just started playing ESO as a free monthly offer on Play Station. I enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim a lot, so I am quite familiar with the ES universe.

Since then I got hooked by the Soulsborne/Sekiro serieswhich I absolutely adore - especially Bloodborne - and kind of set as a standard for myself.

That said, after playing ESO for a week now (no worries, I spent literally days there due to the pandemic), rising to level 30, I think this is quite a boring game with some really annoying mechanics. Mind you, the landscape is beautifully done, the characters are well designed and the interaction a real progress to the older games. The myriads of tasks and story lines that are thrown at you contain some gems, that make the game fun in the beginning (and even made me buy the Greymoor Addon. I can’t tell if I’ll be motivated enough to play it after experiencing the downsides of ESO. And there are a lot for me).

First of all it’s the unnerving map. Apart of the (black and white. Why not give them colours at least?) symbols being so tiny and only zoomable to a slightly bigger, but still hardly distinguishable size, I run around a lot, travel to the wrong places, pay to get to another wrong place till finally finding the quest I am looking for. If I don’t get distracted by another task. That in itself can be part of the fun, motivating you to explore the area. What’s off-putting is, that if you accept a quest it’s automatically set as your new goal. Not a huge problem as you can switch your actual quest in the Journal. But more than once I didn’t find the original quest that I went on. So I had to run around and search for the place I was supposed to go to. You get help though to not getting lost totally, as arrows on the quest bar show you the direction. Which still can be confusing as they don’t tell you if the quest is in the same area or in another part of Tamriel.

The second, and probably for me the biggest issue, are the fighting mechanics. Unlike e.g. Soulsborne games, where you have to time very precise moves to hit someone, which makes a win often so difficult, here in ESO I just run around between foes and push buttons, not really knowing what I’m doing (actually I do more or less, but it feels random). Really infuriating is, that sometimes enemies attack from 10 meters away and still hit me. There is no way you can foresee if someone is able to strike you down or not (not talking about the red AOE markers!). It’s just awful. Well, I don’t blame anyone who thinks a game like Sekiro is too hard. I don’t mind going for something easier, but hell, at least you want a fight to feel a bit more realistic and challenging, no?

A ridiculous blow to the atmosphere is that if you get attacked standing in a group of people, they don’t bother AT ALL. You swing your weapon in all directions, no NPC gets hit, but hey, why should they, if a fight for life or death doesn’t affect them.

Then, if you finish a quest by slaughtering enemies, more of them still pop up and attack you even when the quest tells you that you pacified the area. Or, attacking one single baddy, you find them miraculously multiplying into 2, 3, sometimes more enemies. Yes, ridiculous!

The various guilds and the possibilites to develop and train certain skills like alchemy, cooking, clothing, woodwork etc. are kind of nice in the beginning, but get also kind of boring after a while. I just don’t care anymore to decide if I keep some random plant and throw something else from my inventory, not having enough space (which you can expand and is probably no issue anymore later in the game).

As mentioned above some quests are more interesting, sometimes even funny, some are short (and often too easy), some quite long (and can lead you into more difficult territory). But did I find any quest up to now thrilling or scary? Making me yearn to go on? Naw. Running through a swamp, fighting crocodiles and hags, looking for a dangerous witch, could be creepy. Not not here. It seems that they really go for quantity at Bethesda, not for quality.

I can’t say too much about the PVP or groups as I’m in general a solo player. It might be more fun in a group tackling the real baddies that are indeed hard for one alone. So if you are a group person you might have a lot of fun in Tamriel.

I will keep playing for a while, even have a look into Greymoor. But I guess that will be about it. If I change my mind at some point, I will revise my review. For the moment I’m not a fan.

All of these start on PC then get pushed to Consoles without getting fixed creating new problems. While ESO pushes that next big Release. This game is a Bugged Hollow Shell of what it use to be.

    Good things
    -------------------------------------------------
+ Graphics: the Graphics are real good for an mmo if you turn everything at max, sure it could be always better but for my taste they have done real good. the world is real big for an new mmo and the design of the lands fits real good into the ES Lore. If you have fun exploring the world you have here a lot to see.
+ Characters: The Design of the Caracters in another good thing, sure the Hairphysics could be better but all in all the npcs and your character Looks real good and you can do a lot with the char creation tool (but not so mutch like in rift) compared to most others mmos.
+ Crafting: Well i thing they have done it pretty well for the most part, you can craft everything like in skyrim (except jewlery somehow) and upgrade your stuff and you dont need to run dungeons or raids to get the materials for the highest upgrade, you can get it from hirelings or refining resources of any lvl but its still a rare drop. The lvling of the Craftingjobs is not to bad, there are only 2 jobs that seems a bit unbalanced. The first is provisoring witch you can cap if you do it rate in under 4 hours (with mats farming and so on all by yourself) and the other is Enhancher witch feels like taking for ever. Like i said im Vet10 and have maxed out every other Job so far but Enhancer is still only 31/50 and it gets slower and slower most other Job i maxed out before getting 50, i disenhance every rune i find, building gives nearly no Points except you waste the rare epic and legendary runes and i need to farm an insane amout of runes and materials to push it further that real sucks.
+ Quest: The Quest for itself are nothing Special but its good that they have voice acting and some Storys are real interesting and funny.
+ Books & Lorebooks: I like it because it reminds my on skyrim and the other ES games, you can find books witch increase your skill and witch you can read just for fun. Unlike in the other ES Games you dont need to collect all anymore, once you have discoverd a new Lorebook its saved in your list and you can read it later all you need to do is just to click the entry in your list.

Well thats it, if i have nothing forgot this are the good things from ESO. ;D

    Bad Stuff
    -------------------------
    - The Idea how the Skillsystem is done is not bad but it could be mutch better, first i thought you could improve your skills multiple times and develop them more but thats not true you can Morph every skill only once, this means between lvl 20-30 you can get the Morph for each skill u usally use and than thats it, nothing new after that. Of course you can try and develop some other skills to but why i should do that if i have no need for them in my build?
    - Leveling: Ist more worse than in FFXIV, the first time is Fun, until 50, but because u must do with one Char the Quest from all Faction to reach Vet10 in lowers the replay Value and Fun making Twinks a lot to me. U only need 1 Faction Zone to reach 50 but you need to Quest throw the entire Zones of the other 2 Factions as Well to reach Vet 10. Also the XP you get from Quest seems not to be right balanced, after i have done every working Quest and solostuff like in other MMO i have missed 2.4Mio XP to hit V10 and i allready had the Vet10 Area Clr. Grinding NPCs its not an Option because they give nearly nothing (around 100XP or so). The Solution was that i have revisited every Area and have done most of the Group activities but that was not real fun because sometimes you had to wait real Long before there are enough Player for a boss or dolmen.
Hitting max Level should always be solo possible, group activities should only give something like a boost to save time but not been necesary.
    - Bots: when i have played my main i have seen not a singel bot, i guess i lvld to fast. But than i have made a twink to try another class... They are everywhere its more worse than after Launch of FFXIV (and i thought it could be possible). OK the City spam is not there but in every Solodungeon you have a group of 10 or more Bots Standing around the Boss spawn and killing them in less than 2 seconds. If you dont use a instant its nearly impossible to get a hit with enough dmg to make the Bosskill Count for the achivement. I have read in Forum bots that moves throw the ground and farming mats (like in wow), since a few days i see more and more lvling bots running same path all the time in a group of 5 bots or more (following the main bot) and grinding npc Groups.
You hear nearly no Response about that problem from Zenimax and see no Action its like they dont care.
    - No Auctionhouse
    - Class Skills that are not Working right
    - and more

It's not the best game, but it is a good MMO and provides good value as well as a friendly community. Don't listen to all the trolls, but it's also not "Zomg 10/10 best game evar". It's solid!

Well, what to say about this game? Firstly, I am a massive Elder Scrolls fan and used to be a big fan of MMOs for many years but have been shaken off by the pervasive free-to-play model and by watching developers dilute the integrity of their own IPs by pandering to self-entitled players.

So, the biggest plus I can say for ESO is that it has got me playing an MMO again. Other positives are that the graphics (on maximum settings) are beautiful; lighting, particle effects and the day/night cycle are all the best I have seen in any MMO. Zenimax have successfully created the atmosphere of an ES game, the player is immersed in Tamriel and it's a joy to explore the world and meet its inhabitants.

There's much to admire. The implementation of class skills and also weapon and armour skill lines means that any class of character is free to fill any role. Are you a heavy armour wearing Dragonknight tank? Well simply respec, pick up a staff and start a new career as a spellslinger or healer. The combat is engaging, with dodging, blocking and interrupting adding elements to the encounters. However, fighting in ESO does suffer a bit from lag and a feeling of imprecision and weightlessness. A player can often move out of the way of a spell or ability only to be struck when they thought they were safe.

Crafting is very interesting in ESO, it's quite intricate and requires dedication to slowly level up. Armour and weapons can be created, improved and enchanted in a myriad of ways and styles and crafting is actually a viable source of income. Damaged armour is expensive to repair and I absolutely love the fact that this introduces an actual negative repercussion to death.

All quests are very professionally voice acted and are a cut above the usual "collect ten bear pelts". However, I did find that all the different groups, characters and comrades one meets along the way become indistinguishable from each other and are by and large forgettable. PvP can be engrossing and addictive but the lack of any world pvp takes away a lot of immersion. PvP action in Cyrodill is all manufactured fare and is only slightly better than the "usual jerg, dead, rez, repeat" that no other MMO seems to have been able to innovate on.

However, there are negatives to this game also and boy are they large and numerous. The thing about an ES game is that you are the focus of a living breathing world. Can you break into an NPCs house, pick their pocket whilst they sleep, steal their dinner and then murder them and permanently remove them from the game? Yes, yes you can. This is not the case with ESO. Here, you are in a facade of a world. Everything is laid out in front of you and if you squint hard enough, you could believe that you're in Nirn. But peek behind the curtain and realise it's a sham. This is the proverbial theme park. Go here, speak to him, go over there. It's linear in the extreme and there is no real opportunity to fashion your own adventures or stories.

Many useful features, staples of the genre are missing from ESO. You cannot inspect another player, or duel them. There is no worldwide auction house - and whilst I understand the reasoning behind this, the current guild store simply doesn't work. It's inaccessible and unappealing. Inventory space is a premium and most of your time during the first 20 levels will be spend managing bag and bank space. Although, ironically, there is no way to collect the books you find during your journeys.

And then there are the disasters. The gold spam in this game is like nothing you will have ever experienced before. It is pervasive and intrusive all day long. The world is plagued with bots, either teleporting from node to node or standing in open world dungeons (surely the worst idea ever to grace an MMO) endlessly battering and looting the same poor mini-boss all day long. It's just not good enough. The game crashes regularly and the economy has already been destroyed by those who have exploited bank glitches. Clearly, a lot of work has gone into ESO but, ultimately, not enough.

And the same can be said with the amount of thought that went into the social aspect of the game. As I've said, public dungeons are the most disastrous, immersion-breaking events in any MMO, but simply grouping up to quest with others is similarly flawed. Quests are phased, so if your partner is not on exactly the same stage of a quest that you are, then they will not even be able to see the NPCs you are tasked with killing (and therefore can offer no help). The game seems to make actions within it as inconvenient as possible. I've already mentioned trading in this regard but any social interaction can become confusing because people chat in zone/group chat etc under their character name, but appear in guild chat and in the dungeon finder etc as their account name.

The game could have been a lot better, I hope it improves but it's probably already too late.

This is not an MMO, it's a Single Player game turned MMO with boring PvE and unbalanced PvP.
If it's an Elder Scroll game you were looking for just play Skyrim or the older ones like Morrowind (my favourite).

Playstyle: Story, group PvE, PvP, completionist.

Compared to many recent entries in the MMO market, ESO certainly stands out with some brave novel designs. They've done a better job than SWTOR in terms of story, world and immersion, and the MMO certainly feels more like a TES game than any other MMO on the market with the introduction of first-person view. There is a crazy amount of details put into the making of the game, ranging from random NPCs, exploration to consequences of decisions during questing (some of which you will be reminded of even many zones and levels later). However, it's also suffering from a bland endgame, similar to many recent releases, but that's less of an issue than its problem with management.

ZOS has been managing ESO extremely poorly. In a short span of two weeks, they have made more bad management decisions than Blizzard has made in years.

The game is extremely buggy, and feels like an unfinished and untested product. The progression of many essential quests are still broken even weeks after launch, and the devs have been extremely slow at fixing the problems. For MMOs like this, you'd expect massive patches that quickly solve player issues at launch, but that is not the case with ESO. The patches are small, and tend to solve only a small number of issues.

There are also many very poor designs that are now biting the devs in back. Whether it's unbalanced mechanics or poorly designed reward system that led to people camping bosses. Understandably, these issues appear to be of a lesser priority than game-breaking bugs, so don't expect them fixed anytime soon.

Then there is ZOS's handling of exploits that are potentially fatal to the game. ZOS has failed to take care of exploits reported during the beta, and as a result an exploit nearly wiped the game world. Then the messy banwave banned lots of innocent players (whose accounts were eventually restored), and lots of exploiters are still unbanned. As I write this review, there are still at least 3 exploits of similar nature in the public domain, and ZOS's reaction is anything but swift.

Some may say: surely these issues will be eventually fixed? While that may be true, what the recent events have shown is that ZOS has very poor management. As a result, they may not be equipped to deal with on-going problems a MMO may encounter, and I dread to think of the countless issues they'd run into when they release their first content patch, and when they eventually release some expansion pack. It's not about what's currently broken, instead it's about how poorly ZOS has been addressing them thus far, which indicates how poorly ZOS will address similar issues in the future with dreadful efficiency and messy effectiveness.

The game has a lot of potential, but the current management of the game is very disappointing. As a player, I do not find ZOS trustworthy or capable. Rather than sinking investments of time and effort into this poorly managed game, I implore potential players to look elsewhere, at least for the time-being. Until ZOS manages to prove to the playerbase that they can improve their game management, ESO does not deserve your patience or tolerance.

PS: Before anyone wonders why I've spent so much time with a this game like this, the reasons are simple - despite all its flaws I still enjoyed the story (once). Aside from that, I'm really just killing time until Dark Souls 2 releases on PC.

I'm a big MMO fan, but I am pretty picky these days about MMO's. After going through a bunch of MMO's that felt like lackluster WoW clones, TESO is the first one in awhile that doesn't feel like WoW. It has action combat akin to GW2, TERA and Neverwinter. Some feel the combat is clunky, but it feels better to me than GW2 or Neverwinter. Having a stamina bar and no cooldowns on skills changes things up nicely and avoids the pitfall of boring skill rotations. You have dodging, blocking and interrupts all stamina based to add to the combat tactics.

The gameworld makes me want to explore more than any MMO since SWG, aside from the MMO standards of locations to discover there are little flavor encounters you can participate in as well as treasure chests, lorebooks, skill ups and other goodies scattered around the world to find. The questing doesn't feel like there is much in the way of boring kill/fetch quests and overall the questing immerses me more than other MMO's. The overall questing and gameworld has some decent phasing.

The game has a race/class system but once you pick a race and class it opens up more and you are not constrained to one single thing based on your class. I have a paladin/cleric type character that can main tank or main heal equally well, not even level 20 yet. Character level really only matters as far as what you can equip and getting that all too important extra skill point. Classes are not restricted to armor types and one can have a heavy armor wearing mage if they want.

PvP is pretty enjoyable and this coming from someone who does not really care for MMO PvP. I enjoyed RvRvR in Dark Age of Camelot, I enjoyed the more open world PvP of SWG, I enjoyed the WvW in GW2 and I like the triple faction, large map based PvP of TESO. Plenty of MMo PvP boils down to small map, epsorts-esque grind fests with little to no impact on the overall game and just results in a PvP gear grind. TESO's PvP is more about the three factions vying for control of a big ole territory with plenty of keeps, temples and other objectives to battle over.

I also find crafting fairly engaging and I don't much care for crafting in MMO's in general; most of the time crafting in other MMO's crafting has felt like a real grind where I didn't really use it until end level, In TESO I find myself crafting much more and using more of what I craft. Crafting can be somewhat complicated to figure out, but once you do there is a good deal to it and plenty of appearance varieties and things to do to improve crafted gear.

Personally I enjoy the game enough that it is a solid 9 subjectively. But from a slightly more objective sense there are some issues with it that will and do frustrate/turn off people. The game is buggier than Zenimax Online wishes it was. I have not run into any game breaking bugs or serious bug issues like other players, but they are there. Inventory and bank management is a pain even for someone who has been through all kinds of MMO inventory systems. It would a real PITA if I wasn't accustomed to MMO inventory systems already. The lack of a public auction house does not bother me, but it is a turn off to some. One can screw up character development if they don't pay attention to how they build their character and where they put skill points; respecs can be costly. There is not much in the way of a user interface, but add-ons are allowed and there are some great add-ons being made by players/modders already and plenty of add-ons provide good interface additions.

It is rough around the edges and it was released a bit too early, but has enough depth and individuality as an MMO for me. Only time will tell if it will retain enough subscribers to remain a sub fee based game, but I will be subscribing to it for some time to come.

It is one of the most innovating releases in the online gaming industry that I have seen, but is failing in more than one aspect. You need to come to the game without any fresh expectations of the previous games.

There is no opportunity to be a part of the community. Exploring a new town or city does not feel any different to exploring the last one, and quests are seldom entertaining or bringing anything new to the table. The level of progression and gameplay is definitely a step back from the console versions; but to look at it for what it is (an MMORPG) it is far more invigorating than most grind-fests on the market today. There is an extensive amount of lore and dialogue in the game to keep it fresh.

Combat is severely stunted by your internet connection. The lack of Oceanic servers have made it very hard for Australians like myself to fully enjoy the game as there's at least a 300ms delay in all actions— whether that be attacking, rolling, sprinting, or just generally activating items or NPC's... it begins to feel very disconnected. Obviously I can't base the review on my own internet inadequacy, and so I definitely have to say that all fighting in the game is backed up by a solid amount of mechanics. Fighting enemies, especially in groups requires tactics and is far from something where you're simply menacely clicking and mashing numbers.

The 5-slot skill limit gives a solid backup to the extensively customization available when building your character. Of the 4 classes to choose from, there is a lack of meta which is made up in the fact that by morphing your abilities you can effectively play any role with any class.

The visuals are ground-breaking for any MMO that I have seen so far. However, the world still feels oddly disconnected and there's an inherent lack of any life. Bird's don't fly away when you walk near them, and everything does tend to feel very static. This does a disservice to the amazing quality of graphics, but does not take too much away from the level of beauty Zenimax has created.

Endgame does not appear to have much content outside of PvP, but Zenimax appears to be very well committed to constant updates and content being added to the game. I am enjoying it thoroughly so far and intend to look at my subscription as a level of support to that dedication.
The Elder Scrolls Online is not particularly innovative in light of the series, but for an MMORPG definitely takes some steps into new grounds which I'm most pleased to see. I will continue playing for some time.

The only thing Elder Scrolls is the where this takes place and the char races. nothing else is similar.

I felt ripped off after I realized in the first starting area that there is no swimming underwater. WOW had this feature 10 years ago. All Elder Scrolls games have it. All you do in this game is tread water.

The only new feature is you aim your mouse pointer at your target instead of click to select the target, or tab to select a target. However, if the target moves after you shoot, your arrow/spell curve and follow it.

This becomes more evident when things are fired at you. You cannot dodge the fireball or shots coming at you…they curve and follow you.

This is not Elder Scrolls combat. In Elder Scrolls combat attacks go in straight lines, and you can dodge them.

No friendly fire - So everyone is just shooting and casting right through friendly characters in melee etc. This is not Elder Scrolls. This was trumped up as a revolution in gaming - but it isn't. It is a re-keying of similar systems using the mouse aimed reticle to select targets.

Your shield does ‘block’ but you can’t improve the block like in Elder Scrolls. There is no parrying.

There are bows, but no arrows. They just shoot an unlimited amount at your target as fast as you can click. This is not Elder Scrolls.

No Fletcher/Bowyer crafting, no arrow shaft, tip, fletching types, no crossbows or slings. A "woodworker" can make bows. He can also craft magical staves...because they have wood shafts. LOL. seriously.

The staves shoot magic just like the bows - unlimited, curving at target.

Your character only has a magic, health, and stamina rating. No str, dex, wil, int, etc etc.
Elder Scrolls skills, or some new well thought out complex skill system is absent here. Where are the 6 schools of Magic from Elder Scrolls? Not Here.

4 Character classes, each with 3 skill trees: Each class is basically a magician. Then you pick a weapon with a separate skill tree. The skills end up doing much the same thing no matter what you choose.

Any player can use any weapon and each weapon has its own skill tree

You can carry 60 pieces of heavy armor or 60 scrolls...not weight based.

Anyone can wear heavy armor and wield the biggest weapons because there is no min str rating etc.

Everyone can use stealth, but it does not level up like in ES. Armor doesn’t effect it.

OTHER DISAPOINTMENTS FOR AN MMO THAT COMES OUT IN 2014:
You can’t build a house ( or even a tent) and have property,

You can't make extra storage chests for your gear.

You have a bank with 60 slots (upgradeable). That’s it. It can be filled up with junk from the starting area.

No shipbuilding (even simple canoes) sea sailing, own a ship instead of a house.

No building guild halls and customizing them for members. No public store for your guild.

No public auction/store to sell things more QUICKLY!!
Remember in Ultima online (1998) how you could find treasures and decorate your place? Sail on the sea and fish? Your guild could have a storefront where u could sell stuff u made? You could own a house? There is nothing here. UO had this 15 years ago....where the economy was based on what ppl made. No hunting skill, fishing skill, mountain climbing, pet taming, nothing - you can fish but it is generic), no carpentry, masonry, kennel – no extra stuff that an mmo crowd does outside of combat or combat crafting. Imagine all the cool things someone in a next generation mmo could have for people to do - a socila immersive world - ESO strikes out here. You can’t have NPC companions that you can equip and customize and program with scripts (like in swtor, or eve baldur’s gate). Think Dragon Age scripting with SWTOR companions You still can’t fight like cavalry and trample enemies on your horse (which should be customizeable with armor saddles, shoes, etc.). you can upgrade horse speed, endurance OTHER ANNOYANCES: No minimap. PVP : is fun, it takes place in Cyrodil - on a huge battlefield - but there is.no real world pvp or chance encounters with the enemy :( Guilds have enemies together in them. (seriously?) Summary: Great Beautifully created Tamriel Lands, Beautiful Characters. However, being advertised as an Elder Scrolls game leaves high expectations...which this game fails to deliver. ESO also fails to deliver in areas where many other games do things better.

I had terrible white artifacts/jaggies around all objects in the game, although using a modern gaming PC. The graphical bug was caused because of ESO's poor AA and Lighting engine implentation - there's nothing I could do about it. Game unplayable.

Contacted the support team, they weren't able to help me other than telling me to send a bug report which I won't get any response to. Asked

Bought the game from a third party, so it's somehow understandable. But they neither refunded the Plus subscription of 30 days of which only 3 days were over nor the ingame Crown purchase which was supposedly "used" because spend in the shop. But I didn't even use what I bought there because the game is unplayable..

Worst game and user care experience since years.

Edit: The game has been taking a spiral downward and the crashing of game is so frequent that I've had to adjust my score. I've tried taking the mods off, use repair function, even reinstalled the game. I built my PC using compatible parts. I'm guessing the issue specifically has to do with hardware compatibility with the game however. Pros:

    - Immersive gameplay full of lore, beautiful world and life
    - Subscription is not required
    - Base game has tons of content
    - Voice acting everywhere
    - Has the most roleplayers I've seen
    - Can turn into werewolf/vampire, and can steal/kill innocents
    - Diverse build potentials

    Neutral:

    - Toxicity level of community hovers at average. Better than WoW, but worse than FF14

    Cons:
    - Too, many, bots
    - Plenty of bugs
    - Character models are pretty bad
    - Housing that serves no utility aside from DPS dummy and craft stations if you are incredibly fortunate or wealthy enough to afford them
    - Content development lags while introduction of cash items are unrelenting
    - Randomized cash "crate" (like Korean MMO's) that produces duplicates of undesirable items at a very high rate
    - Overpriced and inflating cash shop items
    - Starving players of inventory space then offering inventory space for subscribers
    - Dressing Morrowind as an "expansion" when it's actually the size of DLC, then announcing DLC's tied to the said "expansion", preventing subscribers from any future DLC content tied to the "expansion"

Im played this game since closed beta up to may 2019... And all i can say about this game its a trash, zos team can ignore game breaking bugs or exploits for a year or two but if its a crown store (cash store) bug they gonna fix bug in 0.4 seconds and even take servers down.eso team is a garbage which don't care about balance or anything else besides cash store.

Eight years of development, a team consisting of even 250 people at some points, budget reaching hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s a pity that this ‘Skyrim Online’ disappoints both fans of previous Bethesda games and MMORPG veterans who expected some fresh air in the stale genre. [06/2014, p.44]

A well done MMO that can lure players not familiar with the genre. But if you've played MMOs before, this one doesn't offer anything new, nor anything exciting.

60 days was more then enough time for me to determine that I would rather spend my time elsewhere.
