Been playing MMO for 15 years this one by far is the best I've ever played. I'm so hooked I've stayed up for days just playing this game I'm current a veteran rank 7 and let me tell you if you thought this game will stop at level 50 you are so wrong it only opens up ten fold.. If your on the fence jump over trust me you won't regret it.

Has the potential to be a great game the business model (cash grab) will destroy ESO within a year.

I've played this game for a week. I really want to like it but every time I play it I want to quit. I like Elder Scrolls, and I like the idea of an mmorpg, but the way they mixed it it does not work.

As usual you are this guy that will save the world, a chosen one, but there are hundreds other chosen ones running around doing exactly the same quests as you. This makes any attempt at immersion fail. As the story is concerned you are the lone hero everything revolves around you. The game does not introduce other players into the story in any way. Other players are just messing with your game. There is no game world or story logic explaining other players around you. Your best bet is to pretend you're alone.

Skill system and character development – completely uninspiring. When you look through the skills it's just blend. Nothing to look forward too. There is no builds that you can look at and say 'wow that sounds really cool' everything is 'meh'.

PvP is an entirely different map that could have been an independent game. There is no thrill of encountering a real life enemy in a 'normal' game.

PvE is for the most part not needed. There are some dungeons/bosses that require it but its not really that fun. I hope it will get better though, it is the only justification to continue playing for me.

The game is rather expensive without even having a trial. Don't buy it.

What you get is everything Elder Scrolls has always been: spectacular visuals, detailed character creation, beautiful soundtrack and the classic quest lore...all in an MMO environment. This franchise will only get better as time goes on and software/game is improved and the world is further developed via forthcoming game updates and patches. This one is going to get better folks so Elder Scrolls fans buckle up and strap in. The rest; if you came here looking for WoW...you should probably go back to it. While it uses the world and lore of Elder Scrolls it loses the sandbox aspect of the Elder Scroll series of games. Rather than being able to learn any skills and advance them through use/training you are forced into one of 4 classes of the same old variety - warrior, mage, thief and priest. Each class gives you 3 skills that you can learn for that class plus your choice of weapons and armor. However the choice in armor is a false choice. The only armor that "sorcerers" gain benefit appropriate for their "class" is light armor. Same with the "thief" class in medium armor and so on. Furthermore skill usage doesn't raise skills, just having items equipped or on skills on your skill bar raises them as you gain experience.

By discarding the open sandbox advancement aspect of the single player Elder Scrolls games and adopting the same old four cookie cutter class aspects just makes ESO another of the same tired old "been there, done that" MMO. I loved Skyrim and enjoyed the previous Elder Scrolls games, but unfortunately ESO doesn't live up to it's history.

A decent game marred by some truly terrible design decisions.

ESO is fun, graphically gorgeous and rather engaging. Unfortunately terrible public dungeon design, poor loot mechanics, a non-existent economy and ZOSs seeming inability to deal with exploting and hacking take the shine off what would have been an otherwise outstanding MMO.

Every part of this game is broken and some are even worst from Arena like for example Inventory which here don't exist at all. Not mention about core of game statistics which was redesigned into dumbest possible health magic stamina. Is this still Elder Scrolls anyway? If you change rules of chess game then it become checkers, and this is what Skyrim is.

If you don't know the game and came here to see if you should buy it, don't let the low User Score frighten you of. Guessing it's wow players last cry for help, bashing the game.
Everyone is entitled to a opinion, but giving it 0 for being ugly, or for bugs(I've encountered 2 minor so far) or ''THERE ISN*T ANY DRAKES! WTF!", is just retarded. And I can honestly tell you, there is a lot of retarded people reviewing this game. Giving it 5 or 7 or whatever is understandable, and the game might not be what you expected, fine! But giving it 0-1 for being the worst game ever is just counterproductive.

    Stability:
Anyway, so far I've played 20 hours of game time, and have experienced zero serverdown time, zero lag, zero waiting in queue time, which is pretty impressive -- 2 Points!

    Graphics:
The graphics are of the chart. Really impressive, even close up and the spells looks amazing! And it's a freaking MMO !
    --2 Points!

    Gameplay:
Many people of bashing haters will tell me otherwise. But the truth is that the combat feels way less clunky then Skyrim. The world feels alive, with NPC's sticking to rutines like you know for Bethasda games, and therefor the game doesn't at all seem static like other MMO's. The enemies are very alive and have have different abilities, which makes every encounter unique.
    --2 Points!

    Content:
The Skill tree in this game is very unique for other MMO's. There arn't any specific path you must follow. Everything is open and possible.
The crafting is very, very well designed and is one of the best crafting systems I've seen in recent MMO's.
The world is huge, like you would expect in a MMO, and there is endless quests just waiting for you.
    - 2 Points!

    Replayablity:
All quests are fully voiced which actually makes it playable as a single player game, without mindlessly grinding. Also like 30 % of quests come with an important choice which changes to quest completely. It's also worth mentioning the quests are beautiful written, like you would expect from Bethasda.
    --2 Points!

    Other:
Great community always willing to help you out. So overall a great game. The only thing I have a little problem with is Bethasda aiming the ''big'' raiding party to be a 12-man raid.. And I'm a huge fan of huge raids like 25 people or so. This is of course just my opinion but that was a little bummer for me. (May come, we can't know)
    --1 Points!

    OVERALL SCORE = 9 POINTS!
Great game, very well written/designed and well worth the money. I'm impressed you can buy a game this good for this low cost. There is a sub-fee to take into consideration before buying the game. But if you plus 2 months of sub-fee payment to the price of the game, you will be able to play it for 2 months and if it still intriges you, then it's well worth the sub-fee ! Great job Bethasda and ZeniMax Online !

First of all, there is definitely not enough endgame content in this game. You level up to VR10 and then wonder “What now?“ as there is nothing to do besides boring PvP.

I really hated the PVP in this game since all you do, is riding horse for miles, then get into a huge battle where your individual abilities don't matter at all. Battles are won by pure numbers and nothing else. After you die, you realise that you really want to leave the area rather than running for 10 minutes to a 10 second battle. As a veteran player, I'm hard to kill and take down 2-3 enemies at the same time outside a huge battle. If my relatively rare deaths discourage me this much, I can't imagine how those 3 lowlevels feel when they die to a single veteran. There needs to be a better system for pvp implemented by the developers.

As for PVE, there is absolutely nothing there besides 4man dungeons which don't give the progress feeling. There won't be any countless raid nights to down a boss which gives your raid hard times. Adventure zones and trials don't seem enough by the looks of it. questing with 4man group or an event which you kill random waves of enemies with 12people sounds weak (though we haven't seen them so these are far from facts as they may very well be really fun in the future)

The game itself has countless bugs which breaks the game so often that I got used to the idea of buggy game. Game should still be in beta. It's far from completed and it seems like it needs rather long time to complete.

You can't imagine how disappointed I am after waiting so long for this game only to get bored in a few weeks.

Normally you'd be correct, but since the last build was from 2 weeks before launch and it was just that terrible, there's no way i'd waste $60 on it much less the sub fee.

The game had a terrible amount of bugs. I had 15 quests in my questlog when I quit playing during the last free weekend because I couldn't complete them because they were either bugged or so high level there was no way for me to complete it. The graphics are ok, although it was more colorful than Skyrim. But the game is broken up into hub areas, so you can't explore the entire map the way you could in Skyrim. The loot drops are terrible. You can only get anything of worth as a quest reward. Literally every monster drop 1 or 2 gold coins and that was it.

This game also suffers from some of the drawbacks in other elder scrolls games as well as in MMOs in general where NPCs aren't really NPCs they're just there to tell you to go somewhere for a quest or stand around all day waiting for you to buy something. This is something that I've grown tired of video games. The leveling system is basically, "here's another attribute point. here's another skill point. Now you have a level 4 skill!" This game has a much more generic RPG leveling system than what you would be used to in previous Elder Scrolls game.

What this game amounts to is an extremely generic RPG set in an Elder Scrolls themepark. I can't come up with any reason why someone would pay a sub fee for this game unless you like flushing money down the toilet. Is it even worth $60? I'd say no, but if you're a hardcore Elder Scrolls fan then maybe it's worth paying $60 and trying it for a month. Like I said, I quit playing it when it was free for me to play because I found it so bad. So I think that says it all. If this game at launch was totally free, I'd still rather play other F2P games like Path of Exile that I think are more enjoyable and of better quality than this game.

Elderscrolls online just leaves me feeling like the makers really just wanted to make a new RvR game in the same mould as DAoC or WAR. Its so standard MMO, so been there done that, so uninspired it just hurts. Where there is an attempt to incorporate some of the elements of the single player games it feels clunky or doesn't quite work because the fundamental starting point was your bog standard MMO the like of which we've seen time and again for the last 10 years. Take questing. full voice, lots of effort put into back story you say? Well yes, but because the questing and character advancement model is essentially the same as most MMOs (That being you advance by completing quests which give you xp to spend on level ups), the world is necessarily packed with quest givers, most of whom give 5 min quests which we've all done a million of before, kill 5 bears, pick 10 flowers, blah blah blah. The end result is all the fancy voice acting and back story just wastes your time because the fundamental activity is so mindless. I could go on and on about the disappointments in ESO, but it all boils down to one thing. Its nothing new, its not in the spirit of the single player games, its just another near enough carbon copy of a gameplay model that doesn't fit with the IP that's been forced into it. Come on Devs, can't you be a bit braver than this. If Bethesda had just copied the successful model of the time then Arena would of been a scripted on rails experience like Final Fantasy. The MMORPG world is crying out for something new, something different. Enough with the era of the WoW-a-like. Expand

Lots and lots of amazing lore, this game is rich in prophetic history and oozing with brilliant storytelling. UI is minimal, clean, and very elder scrollish. Bosses are fun, detailed, and surprise you from time to time. PVP is a glorious beast of its own. Massive raids storming multiple castles on multiple fronts. AvAvA Battles are incredibly exciting and amazing spectacles to behold, and partake in. Combat in itself is very fun and action driven, just like in all elder scrolls games. Make no mistake the graphics are beautiful. The art team deserves a special merit for spending the time to detail all the environments and capturing the essence of what elder scrolls is all about. Crafting is by far the deepest I've seen so far, on par with games like EvE. The only down side is the first couple weeks were riddled with bugs, and still a few left over. Generic quests, boring combat, familiar control mechanics. I played the Beta and loved it now with the full game I love it even more. It feels like skyrim, balanced and ironed out for multiplayer focus. Not everything is the exact same, you dont kill enemies and loot the exact armor they are wearing and there is barely any ammunition like soul gems and arrows. This is more balanced and requires more effort going through quests you will find things coming together: leveling, armor, weapons. Its not pick up and go like skyrim its more progress then pick up and go. The combat is just like skyrim no more boring watch you and the enemy fight while using a skill in mid combat. Grouping with others is even more fun, its a friendly and relaxing atmosphere this is one of the first online focused games i could see myself playing for over a year. Not everything is satisfying some things you will miss from skyrim like the persistent world with incredible AI where anything could happen, player housing, easier loot, etc. This feels so much like elder scrolls and it is similar to games like wow or guild wars 2. The quests feel more like elder scroll quests than generic mmo quests. There's so much more I could write but trust me this a fantastic mmo so far. I only worry about the end game which was big problem for GW2. If you want to play a wrpg, stick to skyrim, or the witcher.
If you want to play an MMO, stick to Eve, WoW, or TERA.

And so the Game is not really a MMO and not really am Elder Srolls....

The Elder Scrolls Online features gameplay and combat reminiscent of previous installments in the franchise as well as more generic MMO elements. However, both of these aspects feel dumbed down, which is quite surprising because I was unaware that both point and shoot mechanics and skill bar grinding could be simplified. This blight of gameplay was achieved by also taking the slow pace of the traditional MMO gameplay and merging it with the monotonous fps/tps gameplay.

Once you leave combat behind, you are left with the quests. After suffering through a highly generic tutorial, players are brought to their faction's starting location. However, instead of being thrown into an event such as those from Guild Wars 2, a decision driven story instance like SWTOR's, or quite simply a decent world, like almost every MMO ever, we are thrust into a harbinger for some of the most bland and MMO-esque quests in history. In fact, the very first quest I received was a debt-collecting quest, where I talked to bandits and they fought me for 2 seconds and then paid up. After having to farm the same four bandits ten times, I began to yearn for even a "kill 10 wolves" quest.

In short, ESO advertises elements of PvP and exploration that are deviant from more traditional members of the genre, but fails to bring the player to these points by neglecting its core elements.

I'm actually enjoying leveling and exploring. I haven't felt that way in a really long time. I don't feel the rush to cap my level for the real game to start. There are some quest breaking bugs from time to time, or the oddity here or there. Some issues with guild banks, dupes etc... But, all that is just normal MMO release stuff.

Every game has those issues on release. I don't care what anyone says. All games have problems, for the most part this game is completely playable and that is the key. It is almost impossible to completely test an MMO till it goes full production. I think in general they have reacted well to the issues and gave timely updates, which is key for communication sake.

To me a true test of an MMO is enjoyment and longevity. I know me and I can grow tired of an MMO quickly. But, I can tell from the first month if I'm going to stick with it. Like Star Wars, I knew I was going to burn out on that game quick. But, it was a great ride for the first 30 to 60 days. This game has enough systems in place and the character development is so varied that, I know I'll be playing this for a long time.

Lets be honest, Bethesda or whoever the parent company is called Zenimax or something just do things right. They will provide content, they will design better systems, they will perform. Just like they do with all their key franchises.

I know the trend now is to give MMO lower scores, because sites have been burned in the past for giving great reviews early. But, this game is going to be a classic and will thrive. It deserves a 90+ and I'm sorry to see the low metacritic score on it overall. I was hoping that MMORPG would be one who actually took their time to give it proper praise and also appreciate what they tried to do here.

Most reviews all praise how fun it is, but then give it a 70 to low 80 score. I don't get that. The graphics for an MMO are great, the sound is good, music good, quest design good, story good, extra systems good. The only real knock on it is the bugs right now and gold sellers. What game doesn't have those?

I wanted to point out something no one else seems to have yet; the amount of negative reviews for this game and their ratio in comparison to other Elder Scrolls games on Metacritic. Morrowind: 139 positive (p) : 9 negative (n) = 6.5% of the reviews were negative. Oblivion: 351p : 70n = 19.9% negative reviews. Skyrim: 1,391p : 230n = 16.5% negative reviews. ESO: 717p : 433n = 60.4% negative reviews.

Some players have made the statement that the series has gained in popularity and therefore it's only natural to gain more negative reviews, but we see from the data that even though Skyrim's total user reviews increased by 385% it's negative ratio decreased nearly 3% in total! That is an amazing feat especially for a game franchise. Typically later installations receive more exposure, but more bad press as well. But what about the press?

From the 116 total professional review scores, over all three previous titles, there were ONLY 2 mixed (yellow) reviews. No negative reviews are recorded on Metacritic. Both mixed reviews were for Morrowind. So the last two titles could be considered an improvement over each other as nearly all new installments of a continuing series degrades or receives lower scores from the press who are looking for more with each new release. Now we turn to ESO where the press has nearly as many mixed reviews as they do positive.

What conclusions can we make given the data at hand? ESO is not a very good game in the cannon of the Elder Scroll series.

There are no physics in the game. You can't dive underwater, so that gets rid of the Argonian's best racial power. Along with the water breathing spell. There are a lot of stupid "Kill 10 of these quests." even though the advertising says otherwise. Not only that, quests are the ONLY way to level. You can't even level just by fighting or using your skills. Well, you CAN, but the exp you get from doing those things is so marginal it would take days to gain one level that way. There's no freedom to explore, you are railroaded along a linear path by enemies that will one-shot you if they're a few levels higher than you. The dungeons are linear, it's impossible to get a group for them, and when someone leaves you have to exit the dungeon, and recruit a replacement because they can't be completed with less than a full party, THEN you have to start the dungeon over from the beginning. Your choices don't matter, the phasing does not do anything but make it impossible to play with friends. The PVP is fun at first, but then you realize the keeps change hands every 30 minutes, so there's no sense of accomplishment really. The world was built for 3rd person play, then they added in 1st person mode, but it doesn't feel the same as the games because buildings are scaled for 3rd person so their ceilings are like a hundred feet above you, even for the one-room dirt floor shacks that peasants live in. There are also lots of bugged quests, and a cash shop already built into the game. So you can count on this abomination going f2p within a year. Expand

It is an improvement on LOTRO where you click on a series of buttons in the center of the screen in order to tell your avatar what actions to perform but that's all it is an improvement.
This day and age you shouldn't have to spend hundreds of hours jumping through hoops to be able to get stuck into a game and until publishers realize that then they will only have a very limited appeal to the majority of intelligent gamer's.

First and foremost, the attitude the player has going into the game will make or break whether or not they will like it. Expecting the typical Elder Scrolls experience, but being able to play with friends? This isn't the game you want to be going for. Expecting a new MMO in a continent that we've surely all grown to love? Then the game offers that, and by all means, don't hold back from buying it if you believe the monthly fee is worth it.

However, the game has a few standout issues. The biggest concern would have to be the size of the world versus where the player will often be going. While there are many places to explore, the areas often will only have a generic quest typical to MMOs, and after the player completes this quest, they will be given no incentive to return. The art team spent a bit too much money on a world that, in the end, will serve as a draw-distance horizon 80% of the time.

The next issue is the combat, although it's not as bad overall . The melee combat specifically, while done well, is very weightless, often seeming like a heavy two-handed hammer is as easy to swing as a dagger. The spells, however, are mixed between good and bad. Zenimax definitely did the right thing in bringing back Oblivion's and Morrowind's style of spellcasting, where spells do not have to be bound to a hand, laving room for a weapon and shield, or two weapons. This also works very well with the limited number of keybindings, so the player does not have to enter the spellbook every time to change between spells. However, although the developers promised there would be no specialized classes, the four classes that were introduced have a bit too much separation between available spells. While this isn't necessary a horrible thing, it definitely takes away from the player making their character different from all of the other characters playing the same base class.

On the topic of characters, customization is also lacking based on what Zenimax could have done. Hairstyles, for example, are low on number and generally don't have an aesthetic appeal. Scars, as well, are seriously lacking, and could certainly use more variety.

Overall, although this is far from being the worst game of the decade, it certainly falls short on what it promises to be. The box price is a little on the high side with the $15 monthly price coming after the first free month, especially if you decide to purchase the Imperial Edition. There is also the problem with lore inconsistencies, but that would be touching upon personal preference. As a standalone MMO, this would definitely be worth the price, but it certainly doesn't live up to its namesake, and hardcore fans of the series should approach the game cautiously, but definitely not avoid it entirely.

You won't play another MMO with immersion quite as nice as this. I'm really thrown off by some of the false comments here, such as you can't do the fighters guild quest line as a sorcerer? Not true... any class can do all the guilds, and any class can do basically any role... Sorcerers have no aoe control? LOL! sorcerers have the best aoe control in the ****ing game! You can do WHAT YOU WANT. Want to be a Sorcerer tank? Go for it! Nightblade caster? Sure! it's brilliant. You can join up to 5 guilds and each guild has it's own store you can list items on, which creates the way for specialized guilds such as a crafting guild or werewolf guild etc. Make your own guild with its own rules, and then go into pvp and capture a keep or a blacksmith under its banner!

It seriously feels like half of the people who reviewed this game haven't even played it, and I'm guessing most of them that did got to level 5 and quit. The reviews here do NOT do the game justice, are people trying to force it to go f2p so they can afford it? I just don't get it. The game is absolutely gorgeous. Ran smooth on a 400vs400vs400 pvp battle I was in.

I read another review that said ES:O doesn't have the open world feel of WoW and I haven't the slightest idea of what he's talking about. WoW was spent at quest hubs doing collecting quests or kill X amt of mobs etc. ES:O you can just run wherever you want in your zone and pick up quests as you go! See a black marker on your compass? Go run there and check it out, there's probably a quest for you! Sure, you will still have kill X amt of mob quests here and there, every mmo will it's the nature of the game, but on the whole the quests are much much more entertaining than classic mmos. I find myself actually taking time to hear what the questgivers have to say because they are well written the way ES always is. I've enjoyed every part of leveling my 2 guys to veteran rank 1, at no point did I feel like I was just grinding to get to max level.

I've also read a review just now saying there is no depth or content in the game... are you kidding me? There are already a ton of dungeons and the amount of content you do just to get to veteran rank 1 is IMMENSE. It is not a cakewalk to level 50, it takes a decent amount of time to level because of the amount of content in the game. and when you do hit veteran rank, you are allowed to explore the other alliances zones with scaled up monsters so you have 3x the amount of content to explore... not to mention the adventure zones which are coming out. There is depth in other areas too, for example instead of just buying a mount you have the ability to feed it once every 20 hours and increase either its speed / stamina / carrying capacity... you can level your horse to 50!

I also read that zenimax is adding the dark brotherhood, spellcrafting, a justice system where you can kill npcs like other ES games (with consequences if you're caught), horseracing, etc etc... they have an incredible amount of things planned and I can't freakin wait.

Anyways, I want to get back to playing but if you're like me and check metacritic before you buy a game these reviews could leave you feeling extremely turned off at a glance... I implore you to search for gameplay videos from neutral sources so you can make up your own mind. I can tell you, though, from someone who has lived and breathed MMOs since I was a child that this game is the funnest time I've had in my life gaming since Vanilla WoW and I don't think I've ever been this immersed in a game ever... just take a look at screenshots with water on ultra settings in first person view... stunning. Did I mention I can run ultra with 4gb ram and a gtx 650 ti?

If you are a fan of MMOs or gaming in general I strongly suggest this game. Seriously. A lot of the negative reviews here are completely false or tacked on in the first week of release when the game was admittedly a gongshow (most mmo releases are, by comparison this one was pretty smooth). Some of the negative comments are warrented, and there are improvements that can be made. What makes me optimistic is that Zenimax is constantly communicating with their customers, and they are already trending in the right direction judging by their first update notes. WoW was not a shiny diamond a month after its release. An epic, immerse framework has been laid for this game, and it is only going to improve with each update.
Don't let the BS comments from the people who want to see this game fail dissuade you from buying, especially if you love MMOs. I'll be pvping on bloodthorn in the meanwhile :)

ZeniMax need to seriously work on their client and server issues as the amount of maintenance that has been needed is just scary. My laptop is a beast of a laptop and I have fiber optic broadband (60mbs), so I have no problem with any other game.

This one however, today alone, I attempted to log in 17 times before giving up as the amount of 'errors' i got. Yesterday, I had no problem. I really adivse, anyone wanting to buy this game, wait for several months - by then, the majority of people will have got bored of the game (I have) and left. Seeing as there are Rank 1 - 10 veterans everywhere now and its not even something special, everything felt like a race at the beginning (not that you HAD to race).

The Main story line.... just sucked... it was so terrible. The only thing I liked about it was listening to John Cleese and Michael Gambon.

This game was a major disappointment for me. The game comes of as a beta and is filled with glitched that makes the game a pain to play. I am a huge Elder Scrolls fan and this has officially gotten me looking at something else to make up for the hole that it's left me with.
It's a good MMO, no issues there. But firstly I cannot see it justifying the fee. Secondly it's fighting is slow at the best of times.
It looks good, very good, so at least they have that, which is nice. Now for the bad? This can be the greatest MMO

This can be the greatest MMO it wants to be but in the end it still fails to be the most important thing: An Elder Scrolls game. It doesn't feel like an Elder Scrolls game and, apart from the obvious fact that Bethesda has now also lost it and gone for greed rather than looking after the real fans of the universe, it certainly doesn't have the appeal of an Elder Scrolls game. I spent over 350 hours on Skyrim alone. Not even to mention the amount of hours I'd spent on each of the other Elder Scrolls games. The Elder Scrolls Online will not see me sinking any more hours into it.
Get Dark Souls or The Witcher, because Bethesda has officially ruined its best franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Among the several MMORPG's I have payed over the years, this title brings the excitement of the Elder Scrolls series and the online world, together for the first time.

Yes, the game costs $60. Yes, there is a monthly subscription of $15, which is preauthorized and a requirement before you can even play the game - this makes gaming a lot more difficult for users who may prefer alternative payment options - e.g. time allowance cards.

The overall beta and current game play has not changed significantly, however, they did enable NPC collisions which made the overall world seem more realistic. Previously, NPCs or even players were easily just transparent beings that you spawn inside of when walking into a room / building or during a quest. Leaving the prison in the first part of the same was constantly filled with myself having to decline conversation with the assisting NPC because she would attack other NPCs through my character - madding!

Graphically this game has doesn't compare to ES: Skyrim. NPCs are very generic character models that are sloppy and poorly executed, which takes away from the once enthralling game play experience. Unlike previous games, I would rather skip the interactions than to let them play out.

The leveling system is very plain and unrefined, though it was designed to allow a user ultimate freedom when they choose their builds, the entire process proves to be one of the weaker aspects of game play. Using a Daggerfall character, fighting seemed too simplistic against bosses, but then incredibly hard against normal NPC's. I could easily spam a chain ability and using a few key presses I would defeat anyone I fought... not really too entertaining.

There are a fair amount of bugs and broken quests as you level higher it becomes a common occurrence. Biggest annoyance comes from the latency connected to the megaserver technology, which was introduced for this game. Ideally, you would easily be able to play with your friends no matter their location as long as you are within the same faction. The megasever conceptually seems great, however, there is issues when a player tries to saving items to the bank - once they have disappeared, customer service reps seem clueless about how to restore your items....

Minor issues aside, this game has a fair potential; but, is utterly boring and filled with useless pets running behind owners. Running around to put out fires and seemingly instant luck when checking crates and other items for questing materials (i.e. Was told to check for rotting meat around the docks. First box I selected, there it was...) are boring tasks that feel no different than the quest I had before it, therefore, the lasting appeal is very limited for the casual gamer. Other times disguises that were attached completely left my inventory and required myself to try and acquire new a replacement disguise to stop ragging NPCs during some missions. This takes away from game play and just seemed flawed, since the game explains that your character will just remove the disguise when attacking, not that you will lose it as well.

The PVP area is a nice addition to the forgettable story line and allows for a King of the Hill style game play atmosphere with guilds constantly fighting for power. I found this experience a lot more rewarding the the PVE game play - only if there were not hordes of people spamming the push-up commands and making human centipede remakes...

Set 1000 years behind the story of Skyrim, the lore is all inclusive and generally does not have too many missing cities or historical gaps.

In the end it is just an average game, with the same questing as before but now it is communal. 6 rating.

Well, to be honest...neither. This game is far from flawless, but neither is it terrible.

Let's get the nitty gritty out of the way and say that $15, or approx £9 - £10 isn't a huge sub fee for an MMO. In essence, this is standard. Is it worth the money? Only if they will be releasing quality content in the future without making people dish out for an expansion pack. Bots, Gold Sellers and the occassional bug are expected and it seems that these problems are being address. But don't expect it to be sorted within the first few months.

At the end of the day, your opinion on the game will depend on three things: Are you an MMO fan? Are you a TES fan? And are you optimistic, or pessimistic?

If you want Skyrim...I suggest you play Skyrim and wait for the next TES title. If you are an MMO fan, it'll hit all your mainstream boxes, but will let you down on the end-game content as it's still early days. All in all, this is an MMO game with a good helping of TES universe. Just don't be surprised if the game has reworked what Soul Gems do and how they are named...that last one DID break my TES-filled heart.

For those who may not have played it yet, here are some brief breakdowns:

    The negative:

Gold Sellers everywhere!!! Well, it's something that every MMO has to deal with. So nothing new, right? As far as we know, this is being worked on.

If you wish to play 'fair', be disappointed for the moment as there are some balancing issues to be dealt with. Oh, and if you are a stealthy TES player, don't expect to 'one-shot-KO' everything in ESO.

The PvP is interesting and rather fun, but as said above, balancing issues do skew the battles a little...towards those with greater range.

In terms of gameplay, one of the main issues is a lack of STRUCTURED group content (outside of dungeons and dungeion-ing), however, expect the immersion to die a little in some caves as a horde of players charge through it, hunting for Skyshards and map-completion. Although, as the game is still in it's early stages of post-release, we have our fingers crossed for a lot more content to come our way.

    The positive:

The game holds true to a LOT of TES, and so far I haven't encountered anything that is incredibly lore-breaking. The crafting system in each skill-tree is detailed and holds a large array of customisation.

The combat is fluid and feels great in both; first and third-person perspective, although 3rd person is tactically better, allowing you to see enemy AoE abilities with far greater clarity. The skill trees seem to have a good range of ACTIVE and PASSIVE abilities, as well as a very open system to how you invest points.

The general leveling of a character is a little slow at times, but if you focus on questing, then it shouldn't take that long at all. It is simply a matter of what you're doing. Gathering iron ISN'T going to get your overall lvl from 16-17, but discovering new locations, picking the locks on chests and helping out the ever-needy NPCs WILL get you up swiftly.

On a final note, as said by many before me, the visuals, voice acting and ambient sounds are all top-notch for an MMO.

Overall, this is a SOLID MMO with a lot to offer, and a LOT of potential in the future. All that matters is what you were expecting during the hype. This is NOT Skyrim, this isn't even Oblivion or Morrowind, and how could it be? This is an MMO game that so far holds true to The Elder Scrolls world. This isn't a single-player game, and with that come compromises, remember that.

    * People expect that there would be no bugs. This is a new mmo and its huge even at release. There were bugs at release but a lot of those has already been squashed which is very impressive.
    * People that expeted there to just as much content in this as in other mmo's that have been running for nearly ten years. Do i even have to tell people how mindnumbingly stupid that expectation is?
    * People even post bad reviews because they didnt like the voice acting... Even if that was true its obviously not breaking the entire game...
    * That there are not enough updates. Its been out for four months, one big update has already been released and another big one is coming soon. You expected major updates every other week?

    As for me.
Im happy with the game and i enjoy it alot. I've played ES-series since Arena and this really does feel like another game in the series.

One thing i love is the customization choices you have with your character. I like to play in a lot of different styles and roles and here i can do so without having to create and lvl up a different alt for each purpose. There are different class abilities but each class can play all roles if they so wish. Dragon Knight healer? No problem at all. And if you want to you can just change it into an archer or tank later on.

The crafing is wonderful. And its actually usefull in different to other mmo's. You can get into end game content with only crafted gear with your chosen set bonuses. There are set that drops in raids that are better but the crafted gear is more than sufficient.

If you like Elder scrolls and online gaming i dont see why you wouldnt like this game. Even if you dont like mmo's the game can mostly be played as a single player game too if you feel like it. I know that a lot of players do just that and enjoy it.

I believe they even out did themselves to their own Skyrim game because the leveling feels a lot more balanced in ESO. There are really only two flaws to this game. One is that there seems to be a lot of technical issues such as crashes and lagging. The other is that there is no way to complete the group quest as a single player. The reason i say this is a downfall is because there are times where there are not enough players playing non-PVP to get a group together. So if this is the quest you want to do you are diverted by the fact that it is impossible to beat alone. There should be different levels of difficulty base on, how many people enter the dungeon together, so that not enough players being online does not become an issue. Expand

There should also be some sort of penalty/lack of reward for joining a campaign and then not participating in PvP.. I've never played an MMO before (except for shortly at the beginning of WOW (which I hated)). This game feels very good to me, a traditional single player PvEer. I'm sure the hardcore MMO-players have their issues with the game, but for me it so far warrants the monthly sub. As I didn't play the first mo after release I must have missed all the bugs all the angry reviewers rant about (they are now fixed I guess). The only remaining thing is the lags and connection drops during PvP which for some reason seems to be connected to the grouping system (if many in the the group are offline, the game lags when they try to log on again).

The graphics at Ultra-high settings are absolutely amazing considering its a persistent MMO world. (At low settings the gfx are really bad though, something reminiscent of the games in the late 90s/early 00s). Just hoping that the PS4 / XBOX One players will be able to enjoy gfx at high/ultra settings...

    Pros:
Community. Personally I feel the player base is decent and after playing for a few months I have yet to come across a really annoying player. Zone chat can go a bit viral but it is nothing like other MMOs.

Less elitism. Most players look the same and their gears look pretty much the same. No fancy exclusive mounts or rainbow coloured weapons (yet) mean you can kind of relax. Noone is standing behind you trying to inspect you either.

No UI overload and more immersive gameplay. They really tried to keep the UI minimalistic. It took me a while to get used to, but I do feel it helped me become immersed in the game environment.

    Cons:
You can't actually play whatever the way you like, as classes are very unbalanced and some skills have little or no synergy. There are some cookie-cutter skills that are clearly superior to others in most situations, and this has discouraged me from trying out different play style.

Having only 5 skills on the action bar and having to weapon swap feel so limiting and not fun at all.

Dungeons lack charms or characteristics, and most boss fights are simply tedious while others will just one shot you. There is nothing in between. Non veteran dungeons are not rewarding at all and players are not seeing enough intensives to actually repeat a run, which resulted in lack of people wanting to do a pick up group run.

Cyrodill (PVP area) is so sparse and empty, you will really need to be patient to actually get to the action. You will most likely spend a lot of time running around trying to get from A to B.

The bugs. They are simply never ending. I cannot believe that after all the maintenance they had, there are still some crippling bugs that really affect the game play. For example, when you form a group, the game will randomly select you as a group leader, or worse, it will get rid of the leader right from everyone. The result is having to disband the group and trying to reform, hoping that it will work again. There are also numerous bugs within the dungeons that are so infuriating.

Trading system. It is simply not working. As the guild shop is close to being useless (it is extremely buggy and slow, and you can't even search a specific item), players are forced to use the zone chat to trade.

Questing is repetitive and predictable. While they managed to avoid the typical fetch or kill type quests, they are still extremely boring. Most of the time you will have to run around to talk to NPCs to find out that there was a betrayal or murder of some sort, then you will be sent to kill the bad guy in the crypt or somewhere similar. Or you will be running around activating some ward or shards to enter a portal. It was interesting in the beginning, but it quickly became old.

Overall, this was a major disappointment for me and I could only hope that they will either add a good amount of new contents or attempt an overhaul (unlikely).

In general, RPGs are my favorite genre of game. So far, I haven't been able to get past the horrible graphics and terrible game play. That might have something to do with the fact I've been playing Destiny (which has its own flaws) so much for the past few months. To go from Destiny to Elder Scrolls, it feels like I broke out my old PS2.

I'll try to give it another chance considering the game wasn't cheap. But after that, I expect it'll be on ebay sooner rather than later.

The loading screen is slower than Skyrims and I'll be sitting here for 10-15 minutes just waiting for the character selection to load. In my opinion the Elder Scrolls online would be better if there was an option to play solo without so many players and if you didn't need to pay every month. It might be better if you don't need a subscription. My review might not be accurate since i haven't been able to get anywhere in the story because its constantly freezing and crashing. The only impressive thing is the character selection, because with the selection you won't see other users with the same appearance. The game world is huge and at times beautiful and yet is let down by bog standard theme park mmo design. The game was in very bad shape at release and while many bugs have been squished since then, there are still MAJOR issues with lag, abilities, weapon swapping and general game performance. There are so many changes happening to the game at the moment that endgame is not worth playing and the games developers are so incompetent that any issues they fix several more are implemented. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Current endgame players face losing several months worth of character progress as the developers scramble to change the poorly received veteran system and implement a new champion leveling system that looks to change very little of the games current imbalance and seemingly impenetrable wall of leveling.
Zenimmax Online Studios will go down as being one of the most incompetent development studios with an extremely poor relationship with their playing customers.

There are lots of features yet to be implemented, yet I'm confident that the developers will continue to refine and temper the title. I've had fun and I'm certain another Elder Scrolls fan would as well. The Combat system brings it out on top of any other MMORPG, the crafting is much simpler than the rest of the games in it's genre. However, one critique that I do offer is that there are not enough clearly defined roles, as there were in earlier titles, wherein one could define their character immediately, yet not so much as to limit his/her character. More than any other game I've come across before I hated my initial experiences with ESO in Coldharbour, and quickly the game looked to be little more than a horrendous waste of money.

That being said, something changed markedly with my latest and longest foray into the game. Sure, my misgivings about the story (and particularly the awful dialogue thrown at the main VA) remain unabated, but on the whole my many hours spent since the last return have yielded a gem surprisingly detached from my long history of MMO outings.

ESO doesn't eschew many of the sacred cows or cliches of the genre - I don't mean to suggest that - but where it does seem leagues apart is in the sheer wealth of legitimate, diverse play styles with which players can lose themselves in within a wonderfully (if not exactly beautifully) realized Tamriel.

Give it a go - and be patient - you might just find yourself converted alongside me.

One of the first things I noticed upon starting the game for the first time was that it looked remarkably good, and not just for an MMO, I found this game very attractive. Even the launcher has atmosphere. The next thing I found was that it also sounded remarkably good, the score for this game sounds nothing short of epic, a word I don't use lightly. After taking in the ambiance for the better part of five minutes I created my character. The character creation is as good as any I've seen from any other game, when choosing a class I did feel that my choices were limited as there are only four. Character made I entered the game.

The tutorial is done in something like a prison in a different dimension, the area was a little dull, but since I spent so little time there I didn't mind. One thing worth making note of is that John Cleese makes an appearance as a voice actor in the tutorial.

Which brings me to the voice acting. It's very well done.

Now the gameplay. The fighting is set up somewhere between MMO and other Elder Scrolls titles, and I think it works. The hits seem solid and there is a bit that goes into combat beyond what I've come to expect from other MMOs. Enemy AI seems smart, if only for that they can use more than one attack. Crafting is one of my favorite things in this game, being able to destroy old armor for some materials to make new, better armor I find rewarding. Leveling feels rewarding, and happens often enough to not feel like a grind fest.

The quests are varied enough to not get repetitive, and often feel worth doing.

Overall the game is very enjoyable and accessible if you have the money and time. This is an MMO anyone expecting a single player game will be disappointed, through no fault of the game.

TL;DR Don't expect Elder Scrolls Six when buying this, Expect an Elder Scrolls based MMO and you might just have a good time.

Another junk mechanic is the quests themselves. You find you must do every quest just to get your XP as maxed as possible before entering the next region. I found myself taking quests from someone who clearly was going to be the evil antagonist or spoke as a superior to myself, just for the XP. In Skyrim, if someone approached me saying "go run my errand you inadequate serf, they would quickly receive the most negative dialog option or maybe even a blow to the head. In this crap game, I found myself saying "yeah they did totally disrespect me as if I'm their servant...but I do need that XP before I get into the "Shadowfen" region... Worse yet is the amount of cheesy quests. 90% of quests are just point A to B, back to A (or some variation of this). By level 10, I realized that the game would be better named "Cabella's Big White Arrow Hunter 2014", as I rocketed from arrow to arrow on my minimap, but by level 20, I felt the name should be "Postal Service Delivery Simulator 2014". Needless to say, this game is so grindy that only the most autistic, obsessive compulsive types can continue playing. Especially when you realize that after you beat the game in terms of finishing all your alliances missions, the programmers pull the biggest Deus Ex Machina dick move possible, claiming you need to see the world through your enemies eyes an
d have you play through the quests of the other 2 alliances. So now you are taking up the cause of the other alliances, oddly enough, while simultaneously fighting them in the Cyrodil arena. After "seeing the world through your enemies eyes" by playing through all their quests, which implies to gain sympathy or understand their motives, you then are dumped back into your Alliance to wage ruthless battle against them. Overall, I found this game to be a massive fail, and as I stated before, a game only the most autistic and/or obsessive compulsive types could keep up. If you enjoy grinding and your idea of fun would bore the average person, this is the game for you. If you are an ES fanboy like me and get snagged into this time-sink, stop, step back, ask yourself "am I having fun or just running around trying to make the newest white arrow on my minimap go away", and if it is the latter answer, move on to the countless FUN games out there. *Rant Transmission ended*

If you come into the Elder Scrolls: Online expecting an Elder Scrolls game ala Skyrim or Oblivion, you are going to hate it. Come into it expecting what it really is, however, and it's a well put together game with ambition and a few missteps. The Elder Scrolls: Online is an attempt at catering to both Solo and MMO fans, as much of the early game can be completed without the aid of another, even if it makes the experience more fun. It does this well, until the more poorly balanced VR content (which they're actually removing so this point will soon be moot.) With each major update (so far 5,) there have been huge changes and additions to the game. It's hardly the same formula it was back in beta. ZOS obviously cares about their game, and there has been a huge amount of care and detail put into the world itself. Sure, there are some annoying quest bugs and errors that can ruin some things. But if you expect a game of this scale to be bug free, you really don't understand how MMOs work.

All in all, I very much enjoy The Elder Scrolls: Online far more than any MMO I have ever dabbled in. Wildstar, FFXIV, GW2, TERA. They had strong points, but ESO caters to what I'm looking for in an MMO. It's not for everyone; nothing is. But I really think the general negativity some have for this game is very unwarranted and strange. I really hope they add some sort of a trial so that newcomers can give the game a whirl. It's very different than it was during Beta, but the price tag might stave off potential subbers.

It's not perfect. But I can't think of an MMO that is.

I regret getting it for the PC due to the patches. I will cover more of that later. Besides the lore, the combat of this game is it's main appeal. I have played multiple MMOs and consider myself a casual player. I was tired of the clicking and watching...and watching... mechanic so many MMOs choose to have. ESO is great because it requires active attention and skill in order to defeat certain enemies. Fighting sequences do not just involve pressing skills in specific orders to dish out damage or buff yourself. Timing attacks, dodges, and skills make every battle more fulfilling in the end. This is what drew me into ESO. Also, the fact that there is no longer a subscription.

The quests are varied. Many involve being a large carrier pigeon. Others involve battling a boss at the end of a long dungeon. Although some are not that engaging, I find there are enough to keep me interested. However, if I were someone who plays MMOs on a more regular basis, I would see how the quests lack creativity. ESO takes the easy route and does not try to experiment with quest progression. Whether you are level 3 or 30, expect gathering quests.

Similar to the quests, the world is a mixed bag. There are times when I am absolutely intrigued by a town or dungeon I have entered. Many locations have stories of their own. However, those stories are rather varied. Some areas are riddled with clues incorporating the story behind the location. Wandering the area provides more detail into what happened or is currently happing. On the other hand, some places have linear quests which outright tell you what is going on. Wandering can be a waste of time if all you find is flour and rice in a basket. It is as if some area designers were just more into their job than others. The one's who created intricate dungeons which skillfully weave a story together know the importance of explorations. Those who laid out a storyline outright with little more than a brief explanation probably just said "Eh. That's good enough".

Most importantly, the main problem of this game is the need for greed. I have spent an equivalent amount of time patching this game as I have playing it. Every week there is an extensive patch that takes hours to download. My download speeds average to about 35-40 Mbps and I am still forced to skip a day playing to patch. This would not be an issue if the patches involved actual content. I am fine with waiting for new content. However, they only incorporate new in game purchase items. It is absurd to have such extensive patches for a new mount and pet.

It seems ESO is trying to compensate for its new free to play (with purchase) system. This game would be far better if it was not hindered by the unnecessary updates. ESO is lucky the console version did so well.

I had big expectations for this game because of their games in the past; Skyrim, Oblivion etc.
I've played this for 10 min. And I've made up my mind. Really really bad.
Bad Graphics, adjusted to max settings, but it looks like a 5 year old game. No real atmosphere, at all. Already during the character creation i had a bad feeling. Skyrim = like a great HD movie. (even on PS3) ELSO =

Eight years of development, a team consisting of even 250 people at some points, budget reaching hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s a pity that this ‘Skyrim Online’ disappoints both fans of previous Bethesda games and MMORPG veterans who expected some fresh air in the stale genre. [06/2014, p.44]

A well done MMO that can lure players not familiar with the genre. But if you've played MMOs before, this one doesn't offer anything new, nor anything exciting.

60 days was more then enough time for me to determine that I would rather spend my time elsewhere.
