Based on the frantic and fun board game, The Captain is Dead puts you in charge of crew members on a besieged starship. You must co-ordinate the crew to repair critical systems and fend off hostile aliens, or you will share the captain's fate.

From the Chief Engineer, Weapons Officer, and visiting Admiral, all the way down to the Ensign and the ship's Janitor, you must combine your unique talents to avoid utter annihilation in the cold depths of space!

If you can stay cool, repel the aliens, protect the crew, and keep the systems operational long enough to repair the Jump Core, then you can activate the engines and escape to Hyperspace!

Or is it Warp Speed? I can never remember...

A nice rendition of a good boardgame held back by a confusing interface and a limited amount of content at launch.

The Captain Is Dead does so many things well independently, but is held back massively by the pure luck factor of the games events. There’s a great game in here, but it’s marred by miserable gameplay experience in which victory is snatched out of the players’ hands regardless of their skill level.

As it stands right now, The Captain Is Dead is an interesting take on the strategy genre, but I feel like it boldly goes too far in being a frustrating, teeth-grinding, mind-numbing exercise in futility.

Just like how my writing isn’t made for everyone, The Captain is Dead isn’t made for everyone. I wasn’t made for The Captain is Dead. No matter how good it is, I’ll never have anything of significance to say about its game design or its quality.
