Once Upon A Time...you find yourself in a little, bleary portside town in the south-east of Phesoa. There, 36 years before the events of Tavern Talk, you dive into the role of the Tavernkeep, the owner of The Drowsy Dragon, a small quayside bar on the coast of Borkam.

You have a special ability, gifted by one of the Great Dragon Gods or acquired through wizardly hubris: Mixing magic drinks that can alter the fate of your guests - be it mean mercenaries, savvy sailors or ambitious adventurers. Every guest, no matter who they are, has a place in your warm tavern by the seaside.

As you listen to stories brimming with the spirit of adventure, you sit within the cozy walls of your tavern and pick up rumors to turn them into quests. Some of them are old sailor’s yarn, so sort them thoroughly before sticking them up the wall!

As you meet new and familiar faces, all seems well. Your establishment is flourishing and friendships are made. All until something starts brewing on the horizon, something that’s going to twist your brightest dreams into your darkest nightmares.

My review started with me saying it is unusual for a game to grab me immediately. By the end, I understood why this one did. Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker isn’t just telling a fantasy story; it’s telling a human one.

Nuanced characters, amazing LGBTQ+ representation, and a phenomenal atmosphere make Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker an easy recommendation.

While Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker might not appeal to those looking for a more action packed game, this game excels in its ability to captivate fans of the visual novel genre. While it's mechanics are really light, the game really shines in it's emotional and charming story in the fantasy setting. Whether you're a visual novel enthusiast, or someone looking to give narrative driven games a try, Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker is the one for your radar.

If you’re looking for a swashbuckling game of high fantasy adventuring, that’s not what Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker is. But if you’re looking to live and breathe in a fantasy world without the responsibility of worlds on your shoulders, then this is a wholesome and delightful narrative sim with a slow pace and bright charm that is quick to sooth. You can’t be the hero all the time. Dreamwalker is a balm to those who prefer to take a back seat.

As a whole, Tavern Talk Dreamwalker creates a serene environment for you to return to when the real world becomes too much, as it often can. It’s world is relatively well fleshed out, its minigames satisfying and its characters intriguing, but it can suffer from some, at times, convoluted and a bit too densely packed dialogue. For visual novel fans and fans of the original Tavern Talk, it will be what they love and more, and for newcomers it’s a great introduction to the genre.
