Overall, I think Sweet Surrender VR is a good game, especially due to its mechanics. However, the content of Sweet Surrender could do with more polish. I recommend it to fans of VR games who are looking for a visually satisfying experience. Sweet Surrender gets the fundamental concepts right as a VR roguelike first-person shooter. Yet, the environments and limited enemy and weapon selection will have players grow tired of the industrial halls, cities, and laboratories. Sweet Surrender's constant stream of updates show a promising future, but also has to contend with other VR roguelikes such as In Death and The Light Brigade.

Sweet Surrender has a lot of room to grow. That much was made clear when Salmi Games promised extensive free updates at launch, but it’s also obvious when you stack it up next to the depth of other VR roguelites, with a comparatively light loot system and smaller overall dungeon size. But, despite its relative simplicity, the game’s moreish difficulty, enjoyable arcade gameplay and hypnotic visual and audio flair make for a rock-solid roguelite I was more than happy to lose hours within. This might be just the start of Sweet Surrender’s journey, but it’s a really promising one.

Sweet Surrender is very much a no-frills type of roguelite. It covers all the basics with a reasonable amount of variety in the weapons, enemies and upgrades, all displayed in a very nice, low-ploy aesthetic. There’s still finessing that needs to be done though, weapon balancing, a bit more room variety, tougher enemies and progression expansion. Great for those that love easy to digest action-oriented shooters, not so much if you want a roguelite with mechanics you can really dig deep into. Still, even after all of that Sweet Surrender has that addictive quality that draws you back in. Hopefully, Salmi Games continues its refinement.
