It's fun. It kept me entertained for a while. My biggest complaints, however, are the cheap, glitchy animations, god awful AI, and the SIEGES. I wish there was a way to turn off the sieges, but there's not. You're forced to defend your base from waves of zombies every once in a while (which feels like at least every hour of real time). It sounds like it would be kinda fun, albeit really gimmicky, but it's executed terribly. Most of the stupid AI just stands there and lets themselves get killed during them, and it feels really strange that these stupid zombies managed to organize themselves into wave based attacks after certain intervals. Also, there are obstacles in place specifically designed to prevent you from running over all the siege zombies (and running them over is the easiest way to kill them). Finally, I really don't like how instead of actual cutscenes it's just your character standing there awkwardly talking to the other people. At least animate them better or make it more seamless, so it doesn't look like you're going into a cutscene when there really isn't one.

In short, this game has a lot of potential, but it feels unfinished. With a lot more work, it could be great. It's definitely worth trying out though. Driving around and scavenging is a lot of fun. It'll keep you occupied until you get annoyed at the flaws.

Overall, 6/10. I was leaning towards 7 at first, but that might be a little too generous.

The DLC puts you in the boots of the military. You manage a small military base located at the edge of the city that is overrun by zombies. You are to fulfill a few missions, which are tied together by a central storyline, like rescuing key scientific people, in between trying to beat off attacks by zombies. These attacks are called sieges and they consists of waves of zombies that try to flood your base in ever increasing numbers and with more and more 'special' zombie types as time progresses.

While this DLC certainly is better than the first as it adds a new storyline and adds a few usable features, the bottom line remains the same as with Breakdown: instead of putting effort into improving the base game, they just reuse the base game without improving much on it. This DLC at least adds a few new things to the game, such as the ability to use vehicles to transport resources. Yet it is again a barebone effort. As an example: while there is a new map, this map is a lot smaller than the map from the basegame.. and sizable part of it is inaccessible.

Nevertheless.. I liked Lifeline..because it keeps things interesting for the short time that it lasts. The game keeps you on your toes, especially with the sieges and the limited time in which you have to rescue stranded people.

I will not be surprised that we will see yet another DLC around Christmas or so. Just so you won't forget that there is an online version of State of Decay in the make.

State of Decay, besides its flaws, is among the few good efforts of conveying a zombie apocalypse to the PC.With its interesting character progression and base building mechanics, along with the generous content of the DLC's, it is a good bang for the buck for the people who are fond of slaughtering decaying humanoids.

Now in its third iteration, State of Decay is demonstrating a steady improvement that would be the envy of most titles. Each new add-on has made the game's world more interesting and added fascinating gameplay developments.

A change of focus from civilian to military engagement places a greater emphasis on firearms and offers neat thematic alternatives to scavenging resources. But Lifeline’s familiar urgency is restricted to Danforth’s rather mundane outskirts.
