Let me ask you this ? what other Star Wars games audio and visuals match this authenticity !

none. This is epic. This is most importantly FUN ! Yes it may be simple . but its fun ! How much more in depth can star wars become.

MY biggest gripe will be lack of content - Yes they hid all this behind a paywall Season Pass. =(

I, however, think this game is a refreshing addition to world of online shooters. The presentation of this game is immaculate, and the graphics and sound are dead on. The game is designed to be a pick up and play game. A game to let loose. Reminds me of the days spent on N64 playing Golden Eye. Frantic fun without the headaches of being overly complex.

The weapon choice is limited, and customization is limited to "Hands" and blaster choice - but so what? It's nice to have a game that doesn't force me to stress over an overly thought out loadout. The Cosmetic choice is also limited, but really I see no real need to be overly concerned with that in a FPS game in the Star Wars Universe.

I will mention that, for what you get initially, the price is the biggest drawback of Battlefront. The season pass is ridiculously priced, but we are likely going to see prices trend this way. Knowing that the developer is DICE, I'm fairly confident that the DLC will be worthy of the price - and that updates should be plentiful.

Is this game perfect? No. Is it fun? Yes. Star Wars fans and online multiplayer fans should really consider trying this one out. It isn't very deep, but in its own way, it's extremely enjoyable.

Personally, I give it a 8/10 since I love the gameplay, atmosphere and the game modes very much. It's true it's not deep like BF4 or even COD or HALO in some ways, but I love it - It's the Star Wars game I've always wanted. I really would compare this to Goldeneye on N64 - as it is more about characters and match modes than customization. The DLC is not priced very well, I admit it. But I've spent MORE money on games that have brought me less enjoyment thus far.

Bunch of whiners on here. The maps and worlds are AMAZING and so REALISTIC. The sounds, , music, characters, weapons, everything is on point. No bugs and it runs so damn smooth. There are two major points of criticism:

    1. Lack of content
    2. Missing depth

    1. The game offers 4 different landscapes and for each of them there are multiple maps, adapted to the different modi.
Each of the maps feels good. I have no clear favourite and no map that I particularly dislike.
The major movie sets are all present:
Tatooine: Desert hills and Mos Esley Hangar
Hoth: Different parts of the rebel base and the ice desert
Endor: Different parts of the wood and Imperial bunkers.

Yes, I could easily think of missing maps: Jabbas palace, cloud city, death star. To make up for this there are the sullust maps.

    2. The gameplay does not have the depth of a battlefield. But depending on your weapon, your playstyle will vary. A heavy blaster doesn't feel like a shotgun.
Tactical advantages can be felt clearly: On many maps there are elevated positions which will offer you very good field of view.
Flanking your enemies is often possible.

Missing depth is not a problem to me, Missing teamplay is. No squad mechanism, no way to supply your teammates with ammo or revive them. Interaction between friendly players does not exist.

And: Missing space combat. I actually reinstalled the old battlefront to take a look at this. The old space battles feel very similar to the new flight mode. Essentially you are flying on rails. This mode isn't fun at all but honestly: How do you expect dice to implement an engaging air combat system, if the star wars universe has no proper flight physics in its lore. Look at those ships. How are they supposed to fly ? Just avoid this gamemode, play warthunder instead.

    Lets rate it:
10 points for audio and video. Minus 1 for missing maps, minus 2 for lacking teamplay. Plus one because honestly, I haven't had that much fun with a game in a long time. Makes 8. No substraction for space combat, that was broken to begin with.

I am tempted to give this game 10 points just to even out the bad ratings. But please, let's stop abusing the system.
Battlefront is a very polished and extremely fun game. It's not as big as could be and it's not as strategic as battlefield.
But it deserves better than the 4.0 average.
    8 honest points from me.

Come on people, a zero rating is basically an unplayable piece of garbage whose game disc is better served as a coaster. If you think it is a ok game give it a 5 or 6 . If it is absolutely terrible give it a 3 or 4. t isn't the best game I've ever played, but it is Star Wars and it is pretty fun while it lasts.

Legitimate complaints that I have are how few vehicles and weapons there are, as well as the "floaty" air vehicle controls. I know the Rebels don't have a lot of vehicles in the movies, but I would think they could reach into the EU and pull out a tank or something. The Empire has the AT-ST and the Rebels get... stationary turrets?

There are 11 blasters, but they all seem to be close to medium range weapons, with an emphasis on close. I know it is Star Wars and all, but lasers having bullet time doesn't make sense to me. Having to noticeably lead shots at even a medium distance is an annoyance. It would have been nice to have close, medium and medium-long range weapons, with the long range/high power limited to star cards.

Also, the handling for the fighters/ air speeders is just off. They're easy to fly, but in order to do anything useful in them (i.e. shoot things) it requires more skill than I've got.

I think what would really help is if the flying sensitivity was reduced once you held down the aim button. I've got it on 20% sensitivity and while this is fine for flying it is pretty difficult to keep your aim steady. What would be really nice is to have land speeders, bombers, and fighters. Land speeders would stay much closer to the ground than they do now, bombers would have no lock-on counter-measures except aerial maneuvers and high reload time on the bombs and fighters would be adept at taking out the other two and evading lock-ons.

For all the people saying that this wouldn't be anything special if it wasn't Star Wars, then I have to say: no crap! Any game in which the characters and setting are made generic would not be very special. That's the point. That is why it is Star Wars Battlefront and not Generic Space Marine 4000.

As for the other complaints: Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't care that much about customizing the camo on my weapon, the color of my laser sight, or even the look of my player. If the game has solid shooting mechanics and is fun then it is a fun game.
However, I am aware that this matters to some people and I respect that.

One thing that I don't care for however is this idea that a game can't get a good rating unless it is loaded with maps and content. There is a difference between quality and value. For me this game is a 7.5 for QUALITY and a 5.5 for VALUE. This is why I think the whole practice of having a single number to represent the score for a game is fallacious. For a movie it is ok, since the value gap is no more than an hour or two, but for games, where the amount of content ranges from 5 hours to 200 hours this causes a problem.

You can have a game that is the best freaking thing since sliced bread and yet it only lasts 5 hours, but it shouldn't be rated as if it sucked just because it was short. Yeah, this game only has 4 maps for walker assault and supremacy. There could have been 5 or 6. However, there are 9 other maps that you can play if you go out of your comfort zone a little and play 7 of the other 9 modes.

I will say that the entire season pass phenomenon is troubling and I can certainly see that as being the main issue that people take with this game. For a game that is already borderline low on content (I don't count a non-existent single-player as one of the issues for this one), seeing that there are already four planned expansion packs at launch is really kind-of a punch in the mouth. What would be truly appalling would be if it was found out that the maps and features in those expansion packs are already complete or heaven forbid, already on-disc. This should have been a $30 or $40 game, not $65.However, I know that pricing a game that low at launch gives people the idea of poor quality right out of the gate, so it would have been best to have taken two of those expansion packs and folded them into the original product. I know they almost certainly had a deadline to get this released before The Force Awakens released and that has to be a large part of the issue here. Honestly I would have preferred for them to have released it after the movie with more content. At the very least EA and Disney should have provided more resources so that they could have gotten the extra content done on time.

The maps are fun, the modes are fun but they could use some more stuff. That's why i got the pass. It sucks to pay for DLC but that's the way it is, BF does the same crap so shut up! So does CoD! People here need to stop complaining about minor bs. Game has been out 1 day and people think they've played it enough to drop a 0/10 bomb on it... that's trolling at it's finest and it's why no one takes metacritic reviews seriously.

This game does what i want it to do as a STAR WARS FAN! This is exactly what i expected. SWBF 1 and 2 were great back in the day but i DO NOT need galactic conquest or space battles. I have survival mode and i have air combat battles. What's the problem!? Who played the originals for the single player botmatch garbage anyways? Take off the nostalgia goggles folks! Those games were extremely casual btw, so stop acting like they were some MLG style game like CS. Game is a solid 8/10 but i'm dropping a 10/10 to combat all these troll idiots.

Perhaps measure it by how innovative it is?

From the perspective of how well EA Dice achieves what it set out to do with Battlefront, how can anyone say that they came up with anything but all aces? The production value of this game is staggering. This labor of love (Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy comes to mind) is an absolutely exquisite homage to everything Star Wars. There simply isn't anything that doesn't look and sound absolutely authentic. Seriously, this is stunning work by so many artists and designers. Kudos to EA Dice for their unbelievable attention to detail. 10/10 from this perspective.

Is it perfect? No. What is? Bugs? Check. Balance Issues? Sure. Missing content? Come the #$%@ on. This is Star Wars. 7 movies worth (just for starters) of story, characters and lore. Expecting all of that to be in a single game is ludicrous. Personally, I look forward to new DLC, and will evaluate each as an optional purchase as they are made available over the course of 2016. More content to come...and certainly fixes, improvements, and enhancements too. 7/10 here.

This is a game, like Star Wars itself, meant to be enjoyed by everyone that cares to be. From ages 8-80. Boys and girls. Moms and dads, sons and daughters. Everyone. First priority seems to have been authenticity. Second appears to have been accessibility. A tremendous effort toward making sure that anyone can pick up a controller or mouse and dive into the Star Wars universe for as long as they care to. 9/10 here.

I, for one, am thrilled to gift this game to my kids, new to the Star Wars world. What a wonderful box of toys to roll around in for awhile.

How does anyone give this effort less than a 5? Or a zero?

Anger, hate...vengeance. Truly the path to the dark side.

Very good game for session play. I can run the game, relax for a hour or two. And get back in the game after a couple of days. The same I got playing Titanfall. I'm going to play about 50 hours. I think the price per game is acceptable in terms of one hour.

While I agree that this game is limited for a $60 purchase it should be considered that as a shooter it is a great experience. It brings that arcade style feel to shooters and stays true to the Star Wars universe with amazing atmosphere, sound and visuals, it is worth more than a 5 purely on those factors.

It's definitely not perfect as there isn't enough content initially to warrant its price tag and with expensive DLC it will definitely be hard to justify buying it for someone who wants a great package for 60 bucks.

Overall I think any FPS lover will love this game and It's definitely worth trying out.

It is truly an incredible feeling to play as part of your team across the impeccably detailed maps blasting away at your opponents on foot or within a vehicle like an x-wing or AT-ST. I would pay the $100 merely for the walker assault game-mode, let alone all the others. I am a Star Wars fanboy, and I think that is who the game is targeted at. Being able to be part of Star Wars battles is really what makes it enjoyable for me, and I think the reason people are giving bad reviews is because

Giving 0 for that game is just a sign of some kind of frustration. Either the game didn't meet your idealized expectations (because you wanted it to be a BF4 with StarWars skins), maybe you suck at it (those who said the gun play is shallow and arcade-like) or maybe because you are outraged by the EA's pricing policy. I can applaud to the last one, but it does not excuse the 0 score. JustGiving 0 for that game is just a sign of some kind of frustration. Just for graphic, music, number of game modes and the 'feel' of the SW this game is worth solid 7. Let's address some of the most common negative comments then:
    1. Gun Play - People are complaining about the shallow gunplay - but you are shooting a laser. There is no bullet drop, there is no air resistance or gravity. This is exactly the way it should be. Of course these rays should be invisible if we are sticking to the reality, but this is SW reality, so they are visible. Also some complain about explosives being overused and laser fight is not that important. This is due to the fact they never spent much time with the game. On level 25th I don't use any explosives (apart Ion Torpedoes on some maps - but they are strictly AT). And that actually made my stats to soar up. Grenades are easy to dodge with the jet pack and mastering your favorite blaster is much more beneficial (alas not an easy task).
    2. No Single Player. This is just a lie. The single player is there. As well as simple co-op game. I suppose we will see more modes for them with the first DLC. However there is no story mode (which I never play anyway - especially with Dice games)
    3. Poor balance - This is the game which is by default unbalanced (especially the Walkers Mode), and thanks to that it doesn't feel like the generic shooter. Leaving alone the Walkers mode the unbalance is coming from the fact that empire have some vehicles, while rebels have only fighters. This is due the SW lore. On the other hand the storm troopers are not camouflaged in any way (apart of the snow maps where the shining whiteness is beneficial), while rebels are blending more with the background on all maps. This may not be a big difference for players which played for few hours but after 24 hours in the game you can feel the difference and actually I prefer to play the rebels. Also the feeling of imbalance may come from the fact that some players didn't play beta (or played it very shortly). Those who played it to the max had a terrific head start on the first few days.
    4. No customization. I'm a big fan of guns customization so some small additions would be nice (like light/sound suppressors for beams for example). However thanks to the arcade style of the gun fight it is not a necessary feat, especially that the skill cards are actually making up for it and I wouldn't be surprised if the beam suppression wouldn't come as a skill card with some DLC. Skin customization is not as important for me, however taking off the helmets from the stormtroopers seems daft. According to the Imperial Regulation no. 778 no trooper can take off his helmet during the action :P.
    5. No team play features. This is not a huge problem for me as my favorite game play is long range. But I think team of 4 would be better, especially for rebels in the walker assault mode.
    6. Not enough content. I think that creating these 4 worlds to the tiniest detail was a pretty good job, but additional 2 worlds would make that better. Fortunately they are coming free with the first DLC (for these who pre-ordered the game). 6 big maps + many mods will make it good enough for the price. I don't think additional weapon will make much difference, however some additional hand cards probably will let for some more customization of the gameplay style.
    7. The PRICE. It depends on you expectations. I played beta so I got exactly what I expected. Already more than 25 hours in the game, it payed for itself as I had a great fun.

In total - this is the game which is really easy to play but also really hard to master. It is the kind of the game I was missing from the library. Something you switch on to rest from your stressing job. It doesn't need as much thinking and planning as Arma or BF, no team expectation stress like in CS:GO. If I wanted a great single player mode, I would play Fallout 4. With Battlefront you just simply switch it on and kill foes. It makes it very casual, but so what? Games are played for the pleasure. And I still have all these other games if I wanted something else.
Normally I would give it a 9, but to fight the trolling I'll give it 10.

I have purchased this game on PC and Xbox One and as you might have guessed with the username, I am a huge star wars fan. Now lets address some of the initial criticisms. Now lets address some of the initial criticisms. This game is multiplayer only. This follows the fine tradition of games like 1942. The focus has always been multiplayer and that is what separated the Battlefield series from COD. In just about every review I have seen it points out its multiplayer, so if you are surprised by this, then maybe you need to do your homework before making that all important purchase. I initially played this on Xbox One but I have to say compared to the PC its a very different experience. The PC version looks absolutely incredible. The Endor mission is just amazing and Hoth looks great too. The game really has the great look and feel of Star Wars and the maps are really well balanced which brings us to the real challenge of the game. A lot of people have complained the game is short of content. If you look at some of the best multiplayer games, they have had a few maps which have then been built on, but for me EA has done what EA does. It has maximised its product and so are going to kill you in the pocket by adding the rest of the game through downloadable content. Having worked in the industry for 8 years, I realise a company has to make its money, but this is why the game isn't getting a higher score. There should have been additional maps and I think that held back some of the reviews. However put that to one side and I genuinely think the game is a hell of lot of fun. You need to past a lot of the reviews because I don't the scores add up and are basically reactionary ranting. Be objective in your review! EA do really need to review their content structuring, but don't let that put you off as this really is a great game and sets itself aside from the COD generation. Expand

I had a huge love-hate relationship with the Beta but I really like the full game after about 4-5 hours in it. I honestly thing people are bashing this game out of inertia.

Reviewers have said that under the whole Star Wars cinematography and skins there is just a generic shooter. Are you kidding me? Which multiplayer shooter in the last 5 years hasn't been generic? They all are. And I

I mean it's not perfect but not worth a 0/10.

I normally would have given this game an 8/10 but I will give it a 10/10 just to compensate a bit for the irrational people who would rate it 0 or 1 our of 10.

Typical Metacritic....Game didn t start on this platform, but people can write reviews...And "people" like ClockworkSlave wrote same review for each platform....This is **** Again....I give 10/10....And it isn t for this game, it is for this stupid system....

And story? SW Battlefronts are MP games from Star Wars. "Campaing" in SW B II wasn t normal campaing but normal MP maps with "story".

Everyone saying "this game is crap and don't have single player campaign!", but...when Battlefront series have a campaign in the past (at least a good one)? That's right...
I bought this game few weeks ago and i didn't expected that this game will be so much fun!

    no lag.
no fps drops on mediocre hardware at max graphics.
a myriad of game modes, its hard to get bored with so many options
meta game is somewhat shallow but its unique and new so I'll let that one go
visuals are amazing, sounds are amazing
    I recommend it

First let me just say I wanted a Battlefront game not a clone or a reskin of something else and that's what I got. All these people complaining need to go play some thing else this is not a clone period. This is true to the Battlefront Series. And to those that say otherwise when is the last time you played the old ones I have them on steam this is the exact same only improved in everyway and far better looking than any current game maybe less maps but that's it, its 2015 when do we not get screwed on having to get DLC now days.

I find it interesting how many people complain that this game is a cookie-cutter shooter with little depth and say that it's not worth it, but then go and praise all of the CoD and Battlefield games and pre-order them and blah blah blah. Either way, this is one of the most immersive Star Wars games I've played and most of that is because of the beautiful environments and the movie-perfect sound effects. I'm not even a big fan of FPS games and I'm having a blast playing this and just feeling like I'm inside the Star Wars universe (which this game does wonderfully). Expand

Lot's of fun, don't understand all the negative. It's not actually as casual as people say. The spawns can be bad but 80-90% of the time they are fine. Gunplay is VERY FUN in my opinion. Sure if you suck and have bad loadout you will get ruined but if you roll a good class (and I don't mean the OP DL-44). It is lots of fun. A perfect game for short sessions. It’s not deep enough to convince online shooters veterans, but it will definitely win over Star Wars fans. [01/2016, p.34]

Star Wars Battlefront looks and sounds great, and with Battlefield-class gameplay could have ruled the multiplayer galaxy. Unfortunately, at best OK-level, Battlefront-class gameplay is much too shallow to last long. And this is THE one license, which really needs a single player campaign. [Dec 2015]
