A travesty for the gaming industry.
Totally Pay to win like a mobile game. It's a shame, because this game had potential, Dice is a great studio, but the greedy cash garbing publisher EA made it pay to win.
I hope this will not bleed into the Battlefield franchise.

The base game itself is like a stale taco shell with nothing in it. All the meat/cheese/e.t.c. - essentially every part of the game besides the title logo - they cut out to resell to you in microtransations.

So, reviewing the GAME and not its lootbox scam - it's empty, underdeveloped crap and you should never even consider buying it. Or even borrowing it. It's pure cancer.

We're hitting greed levels that shouldn't even be possible.

This game forced me to put EA and DICE in my Book of Grudges.
This is sad but in the future I'll have to pass on any game that will have EA logo on it.

Could have been a nice game, but the greed of EA got in the way and managed to destroy all the good things that they had built. Really hope that Disney takes the rights off.

The pay to win progression system carelessly shoved into the core of this game is the prime example of everything wrong with EA's business model and the direction of the gaming industry in general. I wish I could give the game a negative rating, but 0 will have to do. Do not buy this game if you have any integrity whatsoever.

I have registered to metacritic just to downvote this game. It is amazing how they have the BALLS big enough to publish a game like this. I do not think I have to go into details... Listen, EA: No money for you! Here is your well-earned score of 0. Good day to you.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is not a bad game by all means. But I refuse to support these garbage practices that EA is doing.

If they fix this... then I'll give it a proper review but as of now. A zero is all this game deserves.

    "Pay2Win" is bad, mkay?
How dare you to put that outrageous progress model to such expensive multiplayer game?
EA has totally deserved all this shame coming from players.

Just some good/great games that DO NOT have micro transaction bullcrap tied to them. Do any micro transaction games like codww2, assassins creed origins, forza 7, overwatch, destiny 1/2, battle field 1, halo 5, gears 4, and of course this crappy star wars game, have ANYTHING close to the level of greatness of those titles I just mentioned? NO! They don't... You're not really missing out here if you refuse to play/purchase this game. ESPECIALLY this one.

I realize that if I did play this crappy game I would have a more clear understanding of how bad it is in greater detail. That's not necessary though... At least not for me.

You see... I'm 30 and been gaming since I was like 2 or some crap. It's my biggest hobby and I never stopped. So I have some experience in the gaming world and have decent/good/great taste in video game quality. In other words... I have standards and you can take my thoughts seriously enough. So since that's the case with me... I can tell you right now for a fact that this game is poison for the gaming world.

Wake up my fellow gamers. I know most of you guys are sheep who would buy a turd off the game stop shelf if it had star wars etched onto it's surface... But that's why you should learn from your mistakes. I once too was a retarded fanboy loser who defended companies that I liked no matter what. What happened? I grew up... I got smart... I became capable of detecting turds like this game coming from a mile away. So what if I haven't played this game? You don't have to play a crappy game to know that it's a crappy game. A little bit of research and gaming experience with common sense should figure that out for you. I don't have to eat a pile of dog crap to know that it tastes like dog crap do I? I never been stabbed in my hand with a big knight before but I know it would be very unpleasant!

Us TRUE gamers have good instincts about this sort of stuff. You ever see those tests where they show a baby a picture of a scary looking spider or a snake that looks like it's about to bite you? In those tests the babies often get scared. That's because it's basic human nature to be scared of stuff like that. We grew up and evolved with these creatures for such a long time that it's in our genetic make up to be afraid of those things because they can hurt/kill us. Instincts yo! Well guess what guys? With TRUE gamers the feeling is similar when we hold our wallets whilst wondering how we would feel if we were to waste our money a crappy game like payupfront2.

The micro transactions in this game are on a level of butt ****ery that's never before been seen until now. This is a bad joke turned real life unto the gaming world folks. As gaming evolves... So do micro transactions. This is the next level of evolution for micro transactions.

I been fighting micro transactions for years now. Ever since I bought Destiny 1 and realized I made one of the biggest gaming mistakes of my life. That game opened my eyes to how lame micro transaction games are. Bungie gave me nothing but great/good halo game experiences for a decade and then they give us destiny which totally sucked. I was heart broken. But it was a wake up call. From that moment forward I smartened up and learned to not support micro transaction games at all costs.

A lot of sheep have told me that I'm being too extreme. That a lot of micro transactions are not that bad. Really? Well good job kids. It's morons like you who are letting companies like EA put out horribly micro transaction rich games like this one.

Some folks say that if the micro transactions are cosmetic only it's not a problem. I disagree. Remember old fighting games where you could unlock costumes of characters by accomplishing certain challenges? That was great! Gave you incentive to play the game and get better. Now you just buy it... LAME! Also devs only have so much time to make the game as good as it can be. If they waste time making a crappy micro transaction system then that's precious time lost that they could have spent on making the game actually better. And finally... Yeah sure cosmetic only micro transactions may be much better than pay to win/one time use type micro transactions but it's still a gate way to future games making micro transactions worse and worse. And now look... Here we are... The worst micro transaction game yet(as far as I know) or at least the most popular worst micro transaction game yet. Give em a inch and they will take a mile...

I gave it a 1 which I know is kind of high but hey... I'm a nice guy : )

That being said, the strength of the idea proves that the core mechanics does make for really fun game in spite of EA and Dice’s best efforts.
Yes, this is one of those hating on EA reviews and I am not going to dress it up as otherwise because while this game really SHOULD be a must buy and it’s clear EA and Dice have spent a lot of money and technological prowess on this game the sheer naked avarice and totally anti customer practices by dragging in the worse pay to win and mobile gaming’s physiological tricks to try and induce children to develop a gambling habit and milk those most vulnerable players into those much sought after transaction whales by making the game so mindboggling frustrating to play unless you carry on with the fee to play investments like making it so you would have to spend a working week grinding to get to play Darth Vader.
Yep that’s right, unless you carry on spending in already full price game, the key characters to even the battle out will be locked behind nigh impossible grind and you will lose to those who will just drop money to unlock them.
TL;DR Avoid this game at all costs.

The campaign was just over 4 hours long and ends openly. Gone are the days of buying a complete game at launch. While the campaign was enjoyable it didn't do anything new or shocking and you see everything coming a mile away. The progression system is beyond broken in this game! You use credits earned by playing to buy Heroes (Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, ect) however you also use these same credits to buy loot boxes that randomly give you cards to upgrade the normal class characters. So if you want to play as Darth Vader and you are currently saving all your credits for him that means you are not able to upgrade any of your other characters. They have since lowered the insane prices of Heroes, however they also lowered your rewards for completing the campaign, and also limited the amount of credits you can earn in arcade mode. Yes you heard it correctly, they limit the amount of progression you can EARN in the game by PLAYING the game to cause you to pull out your wallet and buy your way to top of progression. Another note to end on your performance does not matter in this game. If you have 0 kills 50 deaths and do not play the objectives you earn the same amount of credits at the end of the match as the guy who gets 50 kills, a 45 kill streak, and only 1 death. The game is BROKEN. Expand

Given the game's monetization model and progression stopping loot box system at the center of the game, 3/10 is being generous (and that's mostly for the visuals and immersion). If loot boxes are removed and replaced with a better progression system (that is not RNG-based and unrewarding) I could still only see the game getting a 7/10 due to limited gameplay options and removal of past title's innovative tactics. Others have tried to ruin it with loot boxes, cut content for DLC and season passes, and other predatory behavior - but this game is designed like the worst mobile game you've ever seen.
