SPRAWL from developer MAETH is a well-made, intricately designed first-person wall-running game that hits all the right notes with mechanics, gunplay, and level design. It does come with a mechanic learning curve that might frustrate some gamers but the reward of learning the mechanics is far greater than the frustration produced by them.

If you don't mind the relatively ugly graphics at times and are interested in trying out a boomer shooter that encourages a bit more strategy, then SPRAWL might just be the perfect title for you.

Fluid movement, excellent level design, gratifying combat and a bombastic soundtrack make SPRAWL a fantastic and challenging shooter. It has the odd problem with traversal and a frustrating late-game bug, but SPRAWL has the systems to match its ambitions. As you fight half a dozen mechs and ping off headshot after headshot, you’ll forget all about everything else.

Despite a few frustrating moments and a bug that prohibits completion, Sprawl’s six-hour jaunt is remarkably fun. Across that succinct span, you’ll master bullet time-enriched gunplay while parkouring about. If Max Payne with relaxed gravity sounds remotely interesting, consider spending an afternoon inside this dystopia.

SPRAWL doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it instead pulls together several established and classic design and gameplay elements to deliver a well-rounded package that succeeds in what it wants to do. Combat is enjoyable and hectic, and though the melee system probably could have used a bit more depth, slowing time to line up the perfect headshot never gets old. The Sprawl may be a largely familiar cyberpunk setting, the the narrative set-up is intruding enough to hold interest. For those looking to scratch a twitch-shooter itch that works equally well for short-burst or longer play sessions, SPRAWL offers a package worth looking into.

Sprawl is a fun shooter but don't expect a good story or replayability value in it.

Sprawl isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to retro-inspired shooters, delivering a rather by-the-numbers fast-paced shooter experience.

A pretty cool cyberpunk OG fps / movement shooter, a little bit conservative on when levels give you additional weapons (a la Quake I: E2M1).A pretty cool cyberpunk OG fps / movement shooter, a little bit conservative on when levels give you additional weapons (a la Quake I: E2M1).

Enemies have weak spots, health bars, and flash when they enter a mode you can use finishers on and drop ammo/hp/armour/adrenaline (DOOM remake mechanic) which you use to enter slow motion mode.

Soundtrack has songs reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell as well.

    Thoughts-
Sprawl isn’t a game without its problems, both technical and game design. Its poor job of explaining how its skill-centric parkour works, and essentially throwing you to the wolves might be endearing to some, but it definitely puts a blemish on a game that’s otherwise pretty fun if you’re into fast-paced FPSes. The gameplay is the centerpiece in Sprawl, and just about everything else is made in service offering up an entertaining, if rather by-the-numbers fast-paced shooter.
