    A very promising game that fails to deliver in some places.

    Pros: - Running around and general movement is fun - The best Sonic has controlled in 3D for years(in the open world, not cyberspace) - Bosses are a step up from past games and have some cool moments - While I don't like the weird pacing of the story, I do think this game does a great job at characterizing Sonic and his    A very promising game that fails to deliver in some places.

    - Bosses are a step up from past games and have some cool moments
    - While I don't like the weird pacing of the story, I do think this game does a great job at characterizing Sonic and his friends compared to past games, setting up possibilities for future games
    - Combat is interesting and can be pretty addicting, but I do think there should have been more variety in the abilities though(most of them do the same thing just with a different animation)
    - Serves as a great foundation for future games to improve on
    - Amazing OST

    Cons:
    - Very unpolished and janky
    - Most of the platforming and obstacles you traverse in the world are just placed haphazardly around the world using default assets(but I do like how you can unlock rails to connect them together)
    - The third island of the game has majority 2D sections and is *extremely* poorly designed (and the fourth and fifth islands are just extended versions of the first?)
    - Uninspired minigames, island designs, and puzzles
    - Very noticeable pop in that can actually hinder the gameplay at some points

    Overall, for a Sonic game, I'd say it's one of the best. It was fun to play through for the most part, and the length of it was sufficient as well. However, the game has many areas for improvement that i'd like to see in the next game; the formula is great and I think they can pull off a real banger if they fix most of these issues.    … Expand

    The game is the largest among the creations of Sonic Team. Everything in it is done on top, except for the plot, but this is not a reason to lower the rating.

    Its a beautiful sonic game which has (finally!) a more serious tone. You can clearly see its flaws but to be honest all of them are minor nitpicks except the cyberspace levels, as someone who enjoyed Unleashed and Generations a lot, the cyberspace levels are my biggest dissapointment since it has weird physics and controls really bad, but only in the cyberspace, in the open world SonicIts a beautiful sonic game which has (finally!) a more serious tone. You can clearly see its flaws but to be honest all of them are minor nitpicks except the cyberspace levels, as someone who enjoyed Unleashed and Generations a lot, the cyberspace levels are my biggest dissapointment since it has weird physics and controls really bad, but only in the cyberspace, in the open world Sonic controls really good! The bosses go insanely hard and the OST Slaps while keeping a good feeling of atmosphere, and no, the open world didnt feel empty at all, i was always doing stuff and it was pretty fun.

    Game never crashed or had low fps during my playthrough, it ran pretty well (60FPS cap was offputting though)

    This game is simply amazing. I never had this much fun with a sonic game since unleashed 14 years ago. This is the best 3d sonic game ever. The combat is fun, the world is beautiful and the exploration never felt boring. The bosses are the best in the series. The music is top notch. The story reminds me of the 2000's a lot (in a good way) and the dialogue and characterization are perfect.This game is simply amazing. I never had this much fun with a sonic game since unleashed 14 years ago. This is the best 3d sonic game ever. The combat is fun, the world is beautiful and the exploration never felt boring.     Overall this is a very good Sonic game, the best since Unleashed and Generations, Sonic controls really good in the open zones, the DropDash is amazing ( The best feeling of being in control of the character of all the games in the franchise ) and it’s very satisfying upgrading Sonic stats, the combat is awesome, the exploration, and I love that the game let you change Sonic acceleration,Overall this is a very good Sonic game, the best since Unleashed and Generations, Sonic controls really good in the open zones, the DropDash is amazing ( The best feeling of being in control of the character of all the games in the franchise ) and it’s very satisfying upgrading Sonic stats, the combat is awesome, the exploration, and I love that the game let you change Sonic acceleration, turning speed, boost speed, and more, I love the customization in that way, the history of this game is really really good, Ian is the best, the only thing that I don’t like it’s the reused assets from cyberspace, Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Santuary, and the physics in the Cyberspace levels, I’m loving this new generation of Sonic games!

    And the Super Sonic battles, uff, Sonic is officially back!

Not only can you run around the open world to progress through this amazing story, you can go through the cyberspace which acts as little bite sized levels that help you get the chaos emeralds. You can go fishing, just run around and have fun, level yourself up, speedrun, there's so many things to do. The combat feels so satisfying to use and just leaves you feeling good. And the story/dialogue is all amazing, characters feel like themselves again. And the dynamic between the pure evil eggman and his daughterly type love with the naive sage is amazing, it's just so wholesome. The super Sonic bosses are epic too, everything about this game is amazing… Expand

    It is not perfect by any means - cyberspace levels are hit or miss and some are genuinely AWFUL to go through and S rank (3-7 lmao), pop in is an issue though it's not a big deal to me, and there are a few minor bugs that I have encountered only twice in my 15 hours of playtime so far. However, everything else    Sonic Frontiers feels like a desperate breath of fresh air into the series.

However, everything else outshines it. The story is great with the help of Ian Flynn, known for the Sonic IDW comics. The voice acting is okay for the most part, Amy's in particular is wonderful. Character interactions are great and feel so much better than what we got in the last decade.

    Exploring the open world is genuinely great. I always find myself exploring to see what else there is to find instead of going to the main goal. Last night, I said I'd only play for another hour. Before I knew it, I had played for 8. (Also I do not understand the complaints about the world feeling "empty", I think stuff being spaced out is necessary given how fast Sonic goes.)

    But more or less, this game leaves a wonderful foundation for follow-ups. I cannot wait to see what the Sonic series brings in the future.

    P.S. The soundtrack is FIRE and they got Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens on it. 100/10 banger OST.

    Also, note for the PC version: The game uses Denuvo. It also doesn't support Unicode names.    … Expand

    Sonic Frontiers is much more than just a step in the right direction for our lovable blue blur following the disasterous disappointment of Forces, it's an incredibly transcendent experience that evolves the 3D side of games in the franchise to a degree that hasn't been seen since Adventure 2 and Unleashed! The controls are excellent, the design of the islands are immaculate with loads ofSonic Frontiers is much more than just a step in the right direction for our lovable blue blur following the disasterous disappointment of Forces, it's an incredibly transcendent experience that evolves the 3D side of games in the franchise to a degree that hasn't been seen since Adventure 2 and Unleashed! The controls are excellent, the design of the islands are immaculate with loads of fun challenges to do, the story is outstanding with top-tier writing from Ian Flynn of the IDW comics, the game-play is fantastic with lots of variety coupled with an awesome new combat system and some of the most PHENOMENAL boss fights in all of gaming, and the music throughout is GOD TIER with a beautiful mix of orchestral piano themes and some of the HEAVIEST Metal tracks of the whole series!!

    It legitimately upsets me to see some outlets low-balling it and giving it a much lower score than it deserves! Don't listen to outlets like 7GN & Digital Trends, this game is absolutely worth the $60-70!

    Sure it has pop-in issues and sure the Cyberspace stages are reused themes and assets, but honestly all the incredible aspects far outweigh the negatives!

    Easily a Top 3 Sonic game alongside Mania and Adventure 2! Cannot recommend it highly enough!!    … Expand

    You can also upgrade Sonic, you can upgrade his strength, speed, ring capacity and defense!

    The story is the best out of the whole franchise, and the voice acting is very good, Roger Craig Smith did an amazing job as the voice of Sonic!

    The music in this game is incredible and it's the best music in the entire franchise!

    The Super Sonic fights against the Titans were amazing and some of the best fights in a video game!

    Undoubtedly the best 3D Sonic game, the exploration, the battles, the soundtrack, everything is of a high level and although the game has visible flaws such as pop-in, this does not make it a mediocrity as some want to sell means (at least they are few), in short, this is the way.

    this game is amazing the gameplay and story are amazing i only have 3 issues the koco minigames involving the rescued characters are annoying and the ending is somewhat dull and also PLEASE add a feature to replay the super sonic boss fights maybe in the arcade mode?

    One of the Best 3D Sonic Games! Incredible sense of speed and control over sonic and running around this open world feels amazing. Great Boss battles as well! Music has to be the best OST's of all time for any video game.

    one of the best games out there this year full of fun and action accompanied by an excellent soundtrack. Do you also notice that some supposed ""experts"" gave it a 20 and that is supposed to be a professional critic?

Cyber levels are short, very linear and repeating the assets of Sonic Generations and Forces. The positive point goes to the Original Soundtrack (maybe the major point). If you like generic Open World game and avoiding this is a Sonic game, youA mediocre game with interesting purposes, but it fails during execution.     8 hours of gameplay and I'm still far from halfway through! I'm completely in love and not believing it. It's been a long time since I felt such a good feeling with a game, not necessarily Sonic, but in general. It may have a few pop-ins here and there, a few small bugs but nothing that drastically interferes with gameplay!     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Going into Frontiers as a long time sonic fan i was worried that we'd be in for another stinker. But it's precisely BECAUSE I've been with the franchise for so long that i loved this game to bits. It felt like it was made for me. The over the top anime boss fights, the more serious tone, the dialogue all contributed to a fantastic experience. It wasn't perfect though. There was some really bad pop in and Sonic's ground momentum felt weird which is a shame because otherwise he controls perfectly. The ending also felt rushed. As if they were like "oh **** We need something BIGGER to fight than the titans! **** it, throw the moon at them lmao." In that sense Frontiers could be a studio Trigger anime. Either way it was a great time and i cant wait for the next one. Sonic is back.… Expand

    I was a bit scared at first thinking that this game may have ended up to be a huge dumpster fire getting my hopes up and being trash just like forces. But in the end it ended up being one of the best sonic games since sonic unleashed.

I don't like the way they made Cyberspace levels because Sonic feels very heavy. Like in Forces. But the open world is amazing. So far I've encountered only 1 single music bug on a boss fight that kept playing after I died. SEGA should build on this formula for the next game but buy back the rights to the original Hedgehog Engine from Unleashed and Generations PLEASE.

    Sonic's entry into new, for him, gaming paths is overall successful, despite any problems. With a little polish and attention to detail, the next game in the series has the foundations in place to finally look eternal rival Mario in his three-dimensional, bubbly eyes.
