    argh, sonic forces. I bought this at launch, and it remains my biggest regret.

    You can beat a lot of stages by holding down boost and jumping. No stick movement at all. That should tell you everything about this crap.

    One of the most boring games I have ever played.

    Sonic Forces is a game that generated a lot of hype through the trailers and clever marketing. The trailers also made the game look more promising than it ended up being. However, the game does not only have bad aspects, but I'll go into more detail now. Pros: - The soundtrack is a masterpiece, as always. - The graphics are good,    One of the most boring games I have ever played.

    Pros:

    - The soundtrack is a masterpiece, as always.
    - The graphics are good, but definitely need improvement, as compared to previous Sonic games like Generations or Unleashed, it unfortunately doesn't come close to those games.
    - Episode Shadow, those 3 levels from the DLC were really a lot more fun for me than any other from the main game.

    Unfortunately, that's it for the positives at this point, let's move on to the cons.

    Cons:

    - The game is VERY short, maximum 2 hours are needed for the complete game. But that's normal, when the stages only last 2 minutes.
    - The story of the game really leaves a lot to be desired. It is so uncreative, boring and sometimes really illogical. In addition, it seems very rushed due to the short game length.
    - The level design is the straightest I've ever seen, I mean it's even straighter than my f***ing ruler xD So straight that even the drift had to be removed.
    - The physics of the game is really trash, really ultra trash. Of all 3 characters.
    - Also a pity is that instead of giving one of the many other characters their role as a playable character again, another char was invented, which in the end was just a 2nd Modern Sonic, so in the end the game consists of 4 Sonics XD (the 4th one is Shadow since he plays 1:1 like Sonic)

    All in all the game has disappointed me very much, and I really hope for the Sonic Team that they make the next game better.    … Expand

    A disappointing sequel to probably the best Sonic Game ever made, Sonic Generations. The levels have little substance with automation being present at an all time high. Sonic is the worst he's ever controlled in the boost games, classic sonic is back but worse in literally every single way, the avatar is like Sonic Colors if it had very imprecise platforming controls with insubstantial andA disappointing sequel to probably the best Sonic Game ever made, Sonic Generations. The music is still good, but that goes for 97% of Sonic games, however is backed up by a bad story made worse with borderline false advertising of it being serious, when in reality it just falls back on unfunny and cheap jokes and backpedals on any ideals it tries to present in it's story.     The game is polished, it doesn't have many bugs, the presentation is nice.

    Unfortunately that's all the positive aspects. The game is INCREDIBLY bland, lacks any substance, feels uninspired and unoriginal and boring. It's not bad... but it's not good either.

    This is truly one of the games of all time, and nothing more.

    Es un buen juego y sega hizo buen trabajo. No es una revolución, mas bien es un juego para mantener vivo al personaje por que da para mas. La jugabilidad esta bien hasta cierto punto, sonic moderno tuvo sus típicas fases frenéticas y de implemento bien la nueva jugabilidad del avatar que aparte tenia una personalización infinita y para todos los gustos, el único    (Opinión rehecha abajo)
    Es un buen juego y sega hizo buen trabajo. No es una revolución, mas bien es un juego para mantener vivo al personaje por que da para mas. La jugabilidad esta bien hasta cierto punto, sonic moderno tuvo sus típicas fases frenéticas y de implemento bien la nueva jugabilidad del avatar que aparte tenia una personalización infinita y para todos los gustos, el único que fue en declive fue el de Classic sonic que “cojeaba” en aspectos como su velocidad que sentía a veces que se frenaba y en el spin dash que era lo que me gustaba del del generations, eso si implementaron el drop dash que podía mas o menos fácilmente eclipsar lo demás.
    En general me gusto la historia, no era un sonic adventure 2 obviamente pero mejor que los últimos juegos después de unleashed. Eso si tenia huecos argumentales y algún que otro fallo de lo que podía ser la historia como que : “por que silver aparece en la resistencia así de la nada” o, el poco o nulo protagonismo de Chaos. Lo otro bueno son la participación constante en la historia de los amigos de Sonic , excepto de tails y Classic sonic. Lo otro bueno son los niveles, que en general todos me gusto mucho el diseño con una calidad grafica bastante buena para ser una portátil donde también los 920 p no se notan, aparte opino que me impresiono como sega logro hacer que el control del personaje sea como de 60 fps a pesar de que el juego valla a 30fps .Lo ultimo malo seria que los jefes son fáciles y un poco igual los niveles que de ves en cuando te cuesta sacar una S.

    5 años han pasado, no solo he logrado un juicio critico completamente superior a esa época si no que, incluso en aquel tiempo sabia en mi interior que estaba siendo benévolo con sonic, por que honestamente en aquel tiempo también me sentí decepcionado, pero nunca me pareció justo el trato que estaba recibiendo sonic y por eso decidí defenderlo. Aun así y aunque siga defendiéndolo en muchos sentidos, creo que debo ser justo con este juego y exponer mi nueva perspectiva critica.

    Evidentemente era un juego con el propósito de mantener al sonic moderno "vivo" en el mercado, uno completamente mediocre y que es hasta un poco triste.
    El diseño de niveles de sonic moderno se vio limitado a pasillos con apenas una que otra ruta diferente que al final vuelve al mismo camino rápidamente, no se recompensa en casi ningún sentido el esfuerzo por querer encontrar mejores formas de pasar el nivel, sobre todo por que hagas lo que hagas o como quieras hacerlo podrás obtener una S super fácilmente. El personaje es super estático y el homing attack es mucho peor utilizado en el diseño del nivel, sin decir que se siente mas torpe, lo demás lo típico, todo muy automatizado, super corto y con físicas limitadas.

    Nuestro personaje tiene un customize bastante pobre, personalmente no exijo mucho en un customizador y aun así sentí que todo era super simple. El diseño de niveles del personaje esta OK, realmente no es que me haya impactado ningún nivel y en realidad no soy el mayor fan de los wisp ni de cerca, pero si admito es algo que diversifica mucho la manera en que puedas pasarte los niveles, y los con Sonic en general estaban bn.

    Classic sonic sigue siendo medianamente disfrutable, pero su control y físicas fue contundentemente empeorado con respeto a generations, a veces tiene un diseño agradable, a veces es completamente olvidable.

    La historia es de lo peor de todo sonic, Ken Pontac creo que ha sido el escritor desde Colors y es de lo mas reprochable que ha tenido Sonic desde que existe, colors si bien tiene un desarrollo super infantil y con un sonic simplificado a solo bromas, no se tomaba en serio y el contexto seguía siendo un poco interesante, en Generations la historia es una justificación básica sin relevancia, Lost World fue una cosa rara, pero en Sonic Forces la historia se pasa de pretenciosa, intentado tomarse en serio varias veces, con personajes que están absolutamente infantilizados. Un montón de fanservice , ya sea los villanos, los secundarios, sonic clasico o tails, todos tienen un impacto casi nulo en lo que pasa y solo son justificados por una "guerra" de la que ni sabemos de como se llego ahí, y creando incongruencias completas con algunos como silver o Knuckles (como casi siempre). Aparte, ¿y las esmeraldas? ¿No era un momento obvio para ocuparlas o buscarlas?. Y bueno infinite es un villano planísimo y "edgy".

    Lo demás, apartado grafico decente, visual bastante bueno, música que incluso siendo obviamente mainstream la considero bastante buena (No la mejor de un Sonic ni de cerca), y pues todo al final para un cierre fácil y con un mensaje que queda super intrascendente y tiempo de juego mínimo, que ni si quiera el precio reducido justifica.
    Para mi de los peores juegos de Sonic, prefiero 06. 4/10    … Expand

Он тут неплохой, но довольно посредственный, но мне нравится, после того же сюжета Sonic Colors и Last world имеет какую никакую серьёзность. Геймплей мне тоже понравился, буст как по мне сбалансированный, и в игре платформинга не очень много, есть неплохие нововведения. Многие жалуются на физику, но у меня с ней проблем не было,в игре только один момент связанный с классик соником
    , и всё. А тот момент с неподвижными и не реагирующими роботами только один в игре, но все таки хотелось бы больше подвижности врагов. Но некоторой логики в игре нет, да и некоторые моменты смущают, да и боссы лёгкие в придачу с казуальностью в так что 7 баллов    … Expand

    The story takes itself too seriously in some areas, and in other areas, not serious enough. Overall, it's a pretty mediocre game even when considered outside of being a Sonic fan.

    It seems that in this new era of Sonic games, we're getting shorter levels filled to brim with crutches, quicker and stickier game controls, and mediocre packages that don't give us enough bang for our buck. They're looking to be more ambitious with this new title (Frontiers) coming out, but only time will tell.    … Expand

    As a Sonic fan, I must say this game is not good. Simplistic level design, stiff controls without any momentum or challenge. Story would be better if not for a lot of contrived moments and undermining other characters.

    Wispons for the avatar are broken and unbalanced; they give you the most OP one right off the bat and it just removes any challenge from the game there would have been. The avatar is a nice way to encourage replayability, but the levels are so garbage, uninspired(the levels in the game range from green hill, chemical plant, random burning city, casino night, etc, all levels from past games), so even with the avatar I didn't want to replay any.

    Extremely disappointing game that takes multiple steps backwards from what was previously established in Generations. If you want a good boost game, play Gens instead.    … Expand

Two boss battles are fine and creative (Zavok and Mystic Jungle Infinite), two of the three battles against Infinite are confusing and the final battle is challenging in the wrong way. The music and presentation is the best that the game has to offer, since the story relies too heavily on negative feelings and death in a serious way instead of cartoony and comical like before. The first time you play the game you'll get tons of notices with useless cosmetics for your avatar. This is not the worst Sonic game ever but it's certainly the most disappointing. If Sonic Generations is 10/10, this is 1/10.    … Expand

    This game is rubbish. Compared to Sonic Unleashed, the graphics are WORSE! The levels are short, the avatar and classic sonic are not controllable, and the boost has become just Press X to win. This is my personal opinion about this game. (music is good)

    This game in my opinion has too much hate towards it. I played throughout every stage as well as the Episode Shadow levels and from what I played, it was pretty fun. People pretend that this game has no positive qualities which I believe is false.     The story was actually pretty engaging for me and still leaves mystery in the end. Each level is highly replayable since you have to get S rank, then collect the 5 rings, then get the 5 numbers and then get the Silver Coins on each level that has them, and there are PLENTY.

    HOWEVER!!! I bought this game for a quarter of the price, and I would recommend to wait for a sale because I would definitely agree this game is not worth $40.

    SONIC FORCES, for me, its first game after Sonic Adventure 2 that has that old 16 bit spirit of Sonic games on Mega Drive.

    My biggest issue with the game is the classic sonic stages. The way it controls makes it really difficult to navigate and when I replay I actively avoid these stages . Luckily there aren’t too many and modern sonic and avatar stages take the majority.

    I must also add, like with most sonic titles the music is really good and sets the tone amazingly!
    Personally I would recommend this game to sonic fans but at the same time I don’t recommend you spend an awful lot of money on it    … Expand

Die Classic Sonic Level mag ich auch aber weniger als die anderen. Sonst ist die Story leider zu kurz geraten. Man hätt da noch viel mehr draus machen können. Aber dennoch find ich das Spiel nice!!

But if you play it years after the release, preferably this time like I did, you'll find out it isn't absolutely dog**** like Superman 64. It's just your standard 3D Sonic Game, just...there.

    The plot kicks off and it's interesting as hell, for the first time in Sonic history Eggman takes over the world. You join the rebellion as a custom character, which really was the main point of this game, and you save the world, basically. The game definitely focused a ****load on the custom character. The first flaw is simple, and it's continuity. Why is your character using the wisps? You literally can't with what happens in Sonic Colors! The game is just flat-out easy playing as a custom character with these abilities too. But of course there is some pro's with the plot. It's new, it may not make sense, which is one MAJOR flaw with the game, but I still appreciate that this time Eggman has the upper-hand.

    As usual, the soundtrack for this game is AMAZING. I particularly enjoy listening to FIst Bump and the final bosses Phase 3 theme. So this game DEFINITELY gets an up for it's Soundtrack.

    Alright...gameplay. It's a standard Sonic 3D Game, it's different with every character you play as really. You can play as your Custom, Sonic, and Classic Sonic, which again, is a flaw to the story. Classic Sonic gets 2D Levels, and man I couldn't care for them at all. And for another flaw, I know this is Sonic but CHRIST, sometimes you go so fast to the point where you can't even tell what's going on with the story!

    The bosses are essentially easy to beat, you have your standard Eggman's, but then you have our brand to antagonist...INFINITE. The man who became a villain because Shadow kicked his ass. I don't like him or his entire plot, okay? Another flaw to the story. But his boss fights are fun, and in-general, the boss fights are really fun to play, especially the final boss, which can be difficult, but if you know patterns and the way it goes, it somewhat easy. So overall Gameplay is split for me between good and mediocre, but I think it's playable and okay, so it gets an up.

    Alright...CHARACTERS. I'll put this simply, the new villain, Infinite, has a bad plot. Good design, good boss fights, but seriously, he makes no sense.My least favorite part is how you can't play as OTHER characters, like Tails, or Amy, or Knuckles too! (I'm not counting Shadow due to him being playable in the free DLC, Episode Shadow.) But instead those characters are side-characters, and are only shown during cutscenes and interaction **** while in a stage.

    Alright...difficulty. I always love a standard difficult-ish Sonic game, and this game is surprisingly easy. There's of course one or two stages that take multiple tries, and the final boss Phase 2, **** that Phase. But other than those, it's not really that hard! On a scale of 1 to 10 the difficulty is a solid Six.

    Now it's time for my main thing, fun. Is this game fun? Well, it depends. If you're a diehard Sonic fan who's waited to play this game for years, AND wants to play as a Custom, I totally recommend this...WHEN it's on sale! The game isn't really worth it for over 10-15 dollars when I completed it in less than twelve hours. If you are the complete opposite of this, just get Sonic Mania, OK? I definitely recommend Sonic Mania, or even Sonic Generations than this, only get this if you're a diehard Sonic fan who is itching to play this, like my dumbass self.

    Overall: You know, Sonic Forces isn't what it was expected to be. It wasn't amazing, it didn't bring SEGA back to the top. It disappointed many. But to all the people out there who are deciding to get this game or not. It depends if you're a Sonic fan and if it's on discount. I totally recommend this game for the AMAZING Soundtrack, and the bosses, and if you want to make your own custom character. Overall, Sonic Forces isn't downright **** like some say it is, hell it isn't even great. I'm going to give Sonic Mania a 6/10, or in my ratings, just a decent game. It isn't as worth-playing as games like Sonic Mania, but it's a fun trip if you weren't expecting much with it. It's a good short game and it's completely worth it on sale.    … Expand

And the avatar stages are quite frankly boring and have nothing to do with what makes Sonic games fun. 2D sections are where this game is at its lowest, with some of the most awkward physics I've ever seen in a platformer, to the point where simple jumps from one platform to another become difficult to execute. It also doesn't help that the level design if often really simplistic and uninspired, and there's not a lot of sense of speed. The game does get a little better with time in terms of controls, but it's still a very unsatisfying experience.

    The levels in this game are pathetically short. Most of them don't even reach the 3 minute mark. As a result, comined with the sub-par level design, almost every stage ends up feeling underwhelming. To make things worse, this game is ridiculously short. It only took me 4 hours to beat the main campaign, and there is basically nothing to do aside from that. Gone are the challenge levels from Generations and instead, the game introduces daily missions, which are stupid and utterly pointless, like 'perform a boost in Stage 5'. Then there's a bunch of extra stages, which house some of the most interesting level design in the game, but they're even shorter than the main levels. Some of them can be completed in 30 seconds.

    Decent graphics and good music are not going to save this game from mediocrity. And I'm not going to bother discussing the story because It's the last thing I care about in a Sonic game. To sum up, Forces is a very mediocre and uninspired game that will probaly leave every Sonic fan with a sense of complete disappointment after playing it.

The classic has useless drop dash. The avatar unplayable with his homing attack. Sonic is doing boost with a character that cant do boost. The ost music is ok but not gut, all the ost music is the remix of the old one. What is Silver doing in this game, in sonic 06 the future of silver didnt happen. i wish that in next Sonic game 2021 the Sega will do a better game that this.… Expand

    Começando pela história (que n chega no nível dos adventures e nem do Unleashed) é boa, tem alguns furos mas é compreensível, da era Izuka (q começou em Sonic Colors) é o jogo q tem a melhor história, a trilha sonora é boa em sua maior parte mas, é o seguinte, as músicas das fases do Sonic são legais, as do Avatar são melhores, um pop eletrônico, mas as músicas das fases do Sonic clássico, infelizmente são ruins, a partitura é boa, tanto que ouvi alguns remix que ficaram ótimos, o problema mesmo são os instrumentos utilizados, onde tentaram emular o som do mega drive, mas não deu certo. Mas as melhores trilha sonoras são as de orquestra, tanto a tela de título, quanto o map world, batalha final e a terceira luta contra o Infinite, que por sinal é um personagem bastante curioso, espero ver ele em próximos jogos para saber o que aconteceu com ele no final. Os gráficos são excelentes, os melhores da série até então, já que utiliza a Hedgehog Engine 2, um motor gráfico que deixa os cenários hiper realistas, e sim esses gráficos superam os de Sonic Unleashed, até porque no jogo citado utiliza a primeira Hedgehog Engine e não faria sentido a segunda ser inferior, talvez o que possa aparentar que o Unleashed é mais bonito é por causa da direção de arte.
    Os cenários são bastante ricos em detalhes e tem diversos deles, sendo Green Hill destruída, onde no lugar de água temos areia, Chemical Plant congelada, o retorno da Death Egg, uma nova versão da Metropolis de Sonic Heroes, e de novidade uma floresta q é a Mistic Jungle, City que lembra muito a Crisis City de Sonic 2006, e a Eggman Empire Fortrees.
    A jogabilidade, a prinicpal coisa q um jogo precisa ser bom, ela é boa, mas nem tanto, é controlável mais quando você está rápido, já que do nada o personagem corre muito rápido, e as vezes trava no meio do caminho, principalmente o Sonic clássico, o maior problema na jogabilidade é a física, onde o personagem parece n ter gravidade, quando você para no ar ele cai reto e não vai um pouco pra frente como é o normal, quando está descendo uma ladeira ao final em vez de pegar impulso, o personagem para.
    Falando nos chefes, só o primeiro é criativo, os outros nem tanto. Mas são divertidos ao meu ver.
    Assim como Generations, Colors e Lost World o jogo é curto, mas o que dá sensação de ser mais curto é q as fases são menores comparada aos outros, mas o Generations tem apenas 25 fases, enquanto o Forces (sem a DLC do Shaodw) tem 30 e esses dois jogos tem quase a mesma duração sem fazer 100%.
    O maior problema deste jogo foi a inclusão do Sonic clássico, sério foi muito forçada, com exceção do Generations, o Sonic clássico tem que ficar nos jogos clássicos, como Sonic 4, Mania e os próximos, enquanto o moderno, tem que ficar nos jogos 3D.
    Enfim ainda tem muita coisa para falar, teria que fazer um vídeo para explicar melhor. O jogo é bom sim e isso não é opinião, ele pode não ser divertido para você, mas ele é bom, tem jogos que particularmente não gosto, mas reconheço que são bons. Portanto, saiba de uma coisa, opinião e diversão é diferente de análise crítica e sincera, n colocando sua opinião, apenas no final, procuram saber mais avaliar os jogos antes de sair metendo o dedo no vermelho, isso vale para qualquer jogo, tanto injustiçado como superestimado. Если решили делать что-то глобальное, и неудачливый Эггман впервые смог завоевать такую часть планеты, то просто требовалось сделать сюжетную линию минимум на полтора часа одних анимаций как полноценный мультсериал(С добавлением горы уровней однако). А то как-то просто Доктор как всегда пытался захватить мир и.. О боже!! У него это вышло!! Бац. И как не предсказуемо... Не успел игрок моргнуть как соник и аватар(Как правило должен быть Наклз с участием ВСЕХ персонажей. Наклз же был лидером во всей этой серой толпе) одолевают и Инфинита, и неожиданно для всех(нет) Эггмана. Я не пытаюсь оскорбить игру, но если вы все таки собрались что-то большое с неожиданном переворотом сюжетной линии, то делайте на совесть! Ну просто тратить время на создание окружения, текстур и персонажей а потом терпеть крах всей игры. Из-за трейлера все явно просто не могли не пустить слюни по гемплею и такой неожиданности что Эггман наконец-таки выбился в злодеи. А что вы нам подали? Берите пример с адвенчера - все недочеты закрыл сюжет. Пожалуйста постарайтесь хотя-бы с новой игрой! На вас все надежды! Ну вот что себе представляет составить хороший сюжет и мимику персонажам? За неделю можно составить сюжет, исправить все ошибки, дополнить сюжет отсылками в следующие и предыдущие части. Если бы не мои надежды и преданность франшизе, я бы поставила далеко не 7. Если вы сделаете прорыв - большинство вернется и многие присоединятся. Разработка сониковских игр - должно получить большую долю внимания. Ибо со следующей игрой вы потерпите или значительные убытки, или все обратно встанет на свои места как в далеком 2008 когда вы пытались создать совершенство. Возможно вы так же старались над игрой 2011 года выпуска как Sonic Generations, но все таки так-же урезали настоящее. Принести во франшизу что-то новое к примеру спин-оффа, не значит сделать костеголового(Наклза) бревном, добавить неуравновешенную Стикс. Или команду молний(Але.. 1 серии нам бы вполне хватило оценить то что они неудачники, зачем делать еще одну сюжетную недоугрозу). Ну думаю..     You can personalize the Avatar however you like, you have too much personalisation for it. Maybe if they used that budget in making a better gameplay or level design... but I know, that's a dream which cannot possibly become true.

    The main downside is that the game is pretty short. I never ever achieved the completion time of any game on HowLongToBeat and I didnt here either but I still finished it including multiple S.O.S. missions and the unlocked special stages (but not Shadow episodes yet) in half the time it took me to finish Generations and Lost World.

    The worst things in this game are Modern Sonic's 3D levels (they are linear) and short levels.
    I can remark that this game has good OST and graphics, that's all.
    Not good and not bad things are Avatar's and Classic Sonic's gameplay.
    If you hope on the final boss, you probably will be disappointed, the boss is like from Lost World (It COULD be MUCH better). Also, only some part of OST is good (only vocal themes are good, no, seriously, why has SEGA ruined music that have no lyrics?).
    And finally, the main menu screen looks like a beta, because the Sonic Forces logo is TOO small.

    Also I liked Shadows second level and its timing of music (it makes Shadow very bad...(cool))
    Funny fact: the main theme of the game can be heard only ~5 times in the game ~(4 times while Double Boost and once while credits).    … Expand

    Firstly, what reason does Classic Sonic have to be here? He has no reason to be here, his subplot with Tails is pointless.
    Secondly, there are many segments where you can tell that somehow 4 years wasn't enough time for these people at SEGA. Chaos is almost completely forgotten in the plot after cutscene 3, and Infinite is defeated in a boss that feels really similar to the Metal Sonic boss, when he should've just been in the final boss instead.
    Speaking of the final boss, it is once again a rehash of the Sonic Colors boss. Just like how Sonic Lost World ripped off that boss.
    In fact, on the topic of Sonic Lost World, the lead level designer worked on Sonic Lost World. The other two have no previous experience with the Sonic franchise. That should explain why the level design never goes further than extremely narrow corridors and blocky platforming.
    And speaking of the platforming, let's talk about the physics.
    For some reason, Modern Sonic moves faster forward and backward than left and right. There are segments reminiscent of Sonic Adventure's Final Egg where Sonic is snapped to the center of the linear corridor and turns automatically. This game basically just feels like an automatic boost game.
    The gravity in this game is horrible. It feels so heavy that it feels like a risk to jump to other platforms. And the acceleration in 2D is absolutely atrocious. He goes from 0 to top speed in about 1 and a half seconds. So you'll constantly be slipping off platforms.
    Anything that isn't exclusive to Modern Sonic is the same for the other two styles.
    The Custom Hero was basically Modern Sonic with a wisp gun gimmick, called a Wispon. The best ones are the ones you start up with, since they let you keep the flow while mowing down tons of robots.
    Classic Sonic, oh boy, he's terrible. Obviously he isn't gonna have mania physics, I know, but it feels like if Sonic Generations' Classic Sonic gameplay with stiff controls, extremely fast acceleration, and heavy gravity. To quote somecallmejohnny, he's basically 5 tons with a drop dash.
    There's one last style, but it's basically just Modern Sonic and the Custom Hero in the same level, and it's named Tag Team, which is fitting.
    Now for the level design itself, I saw potential here. I really did. But the levels are so short that when they start getting interesting it's over. It's a shame they made each level really short like Colors. The levels are so short that the game is only about 4 hours long.
    That is why I give this game a 6/10. It's average. Mediocre. There's not much of value. If you just want a good game to play when you're bored, play it. If you want the epic return of the boost formula, you won't find it here.
    Final Notes:
    Hedgehog Engine 2 does not look as good as Unleashed, but it's SEGA, what can you expect?
    Episode Shadow is just Modern Sonic with a Shadow skin and some extra levels.
    There are 5. Count them, 5. Green Hill stages.
    Custom Hero's Park Avenue is similar to Modern Sonic's, yet they're 1 hour apart.
    Elaborating on the elements lost in story, Sonic is said to have been tortured in prison for the past 6 months. It is never returned to in the story ever again. Sonic looks fine in the cutscene after.
    Sonic is still a snarky jerk with no other emotion.
    Tag Team is the best part of the game, second best is Custom Hero creation.    … Expand

Actually I'd put a 7.5 which is miraculous considering that I hated every single Sonic titles since 2010 (Generations was the least offensive). At least this one is taking its universe straight and is no longer a terrible comedy routine for the whole game. I like the pace and energy of Sonic Forces. It's very arcade-y. I can see that this game was made with the casuals in mind which makes the game easier for typical Sonic gamers. I have good skills for 3D Sonic games and so far my play time is 14h (story mode is complete and most of the ranks S are done; only the red rings have been neglected). I expect this game to be 20-25h at 100%. For 40$ it's reasonable. However, what the game brings in terms of visuals, the game lacks in creativity. 25% of the stages match the level of the best Sonic Generations stages, but the rest may vary from dull stages to faceroll stages. Sonic Forces is an experience any Modern Sonic fan will definitely enjoy, but it is far from appealing enough for the casual gamer, especially for its price.

    I did not like being forced to play as the 'avatar' so much. I never liked the idea of the avatar to begin with, and I wish there was an option to exclude it completely.

    Too much dumbed down automated gameplay sections and not enough sections requiring precise platforming skill.

    Overall, what I took away from this game is that it's style over substance. Great eye candy, but vapid gameplay.

    Personally, I am hoping for a follow up to Sonic Mania that is sprite based and isn't bogged down by fluff like voice acting and eye candy at the expense of substantive things.

    The Soundtrack unsuprisingly is AWESOME, Sometimes brings the tension up, and sometimes brings Emotions up.

    The Gameplay is the one Expected, so no suprise there, the Diferences in gameplay between the 3 Characters are diverse enough to keep ya entrertained, the Avatar/Rookie has weapons which is nice, its something we almost never see in Sonic games.

    The Levels are Short and Diverse, there are 30 levels in the game (not counting Episode Shadow and Extra Levels) i wish some of them were longer, but they are fine.

    Customisation of your Character is INSANE, so many diferent things you can wear, put, paint... its really fun! i wish there were more Animal options though, and choosing the colors of some pieces would be nice.

    Overall... this is one of my Favorite Modern Sonic games, its up there with Sonic Generations, i give it an 9.0/10!

    theres NO DRIFTING IN THIS GAME which makes the gameplay feel even more stiff even for curves
    Homing attack system has been nerfed and delays A LOT
    This game was made for the whiny oc fans
    Cutscenes are bugged and you can only watch them at 20fps
    No idle animation (which fans somehow complain about this)
    Going through the red hoops or any hoops makes sonic/avatar keep spinning while in air
    Boost is still uncontrollable especially for curving
    Boring boss fights
    Hard difficulty feels too easy
    The physics with modern 2D stages are broken and really bad platforming
    Stages are way too short

    Overall still a fun game but just needs a big patch to get rid of these bugs and improve the gameplay.    … Expand

    You create your own character out of pretty limited choices and you set out to reclaim territories and help team sonic on different missions…
    There are sos missions where you play as other created characters for rewards, there are bonus missions, and again 30 regular missions…
    Sonic forces is a really enjoyable and fun game…
    unfortunately this is an extremely casual sonic game as well, geared more towards children than sonic vets…
    It has the typical things from the sonic formula... rings counting as your health... running really fast and dashing through enemies…
    but failing is practically impossible…
    My issue with sonic mania was that I felt it wasn’t casual enough as levels were way too long to go off of a life system… and sonic forces goes the complete opposite of having extremely short levels with infinite lives.. if you lose your rings its back to the checkpoint…
    This is really just a score chasing game…
    the level design is great, the worlds is beautiful, there’s decent music… but the best feeling levels are over before they even feel like they begin.. making it hard for any stage here to be memorable…
    but this 2 and a half hour long campaign does mix things up as it switches through your character, regular sonic, and classic sonic… all 3 handling differently…
    With classic sonic stages giving you a little more challenge, but still not much..
    With your character you’re able to use different weapons you unlock as you play to shoot enemies all with their own perks in level like invincibility, or turning enemies into ice cubes giving you coins...
    All of this to try and obtain a levels s rank which will get you more clothing items to customize your character, as will completing the games different challenges… giving the player reason to go back and play these levels…
    But being so easy… hardly any timing here, which is that makes 3d sonic games so addicting.. And it’s completely missing...
    This game is really just shoot enemies while sonic runs forward... ocassionally take down a boss and repeat..
    I never felt engaged…
    And while it doesn’t feel like a real sonic game, and there’s hardly challenge or addictive qualities...
    I enjoyed my time with this game... Its fun…
    This is a very decent baby’s first sonic game…

    As a long time Sonic fan I hate to say that this game is very disappointing. While the visuals are beautiful, the controls are pretty bad, and the game feels a lot worse than Sonic Generations. The music is controversial - some like it, I think it's trash - edgy teenagecore. It doesn't feel very challenging. The custom avatar functionality is pretty good. Overall, mediocre.     Game is awesome!!! I enjoyed this game from start to final! Many 2D but ok that's normal in sonic games. Great story, amazing music and fantastic new mechanics for this game!

    If you're a fan of the previous Boost Style Sonic games, especially Sonic Colours, like I am, then you're gonna like this a lot.

    The environments are beautiful, the story is rich with many characters, and the level design is also good. Not on par with Sonic Generations but definitely as good as Sonic Colours. Yes, there are some linear parts but all sonic games have them, but Sonic    If you're a fan of the previous Boost Style Sonic games, especially Sonic Colours, like I am, then you're gonna like this a lot.

Yes, there are some linear parts but all sonic games have them, but Sonic Forces does provide interesting pathways for you to go through. The earlier levels are quite linear but as you go through the game it gets a lot better. Plus what adds to the replayability is the custom character's Wispons, which also provide alternates path for the character. The boss fights are also very fun to play and challenging, you're gonna have a good time beating all the bosses in the game.

    Speaking of custom character, i'm not really into making oc's and customizing, but the game provides you so many extra accessories for completing extra tasks and getting higher ranks and levels, I found myself going back to the custom character's room to see what's new and what fits my liking. I think that's a huge thing for people who are into character customization.

    Modern Sonics levels are also pretty fun to play through, although I should mention that the drift is now removed so sonic team have taken a step backwards in terms of controls for Modern Sonic. But the level design is very fun, again, it has linear sections but later in the game the level design really picks up.

    Now let's talk about the elephant in the room, Classic Sonic. I was skeptical about classic sonic going into the game like many others, but I gotta say, it's not that bad and I was quite pleasantly surprised. The levels have many multiple pathways and the controls and physics are better than Generations. That being said, it's no where near as good as Sonic Mania but I think that was bound to happen.

    The game does tend to crash on startup sometimes but I think Sonic Team has patched that with the new update as it's been less frequent today. The game does lag sometimes as well, and i'm gonna blame that a bit on optimisation and ofcourse Denuvo, it could've been better. This game had a 4 year development period.

    So overall, I enjoyed the game from the start and I'd definitely recommend it to Sonic fans but also casual platforming fans. My only complaint is that Sega should fix the crashing and lag issues with some patches and Modern Sonic's controls could have been better.    … Expand

    I also enjoyed the story as it's dark and keeps you interested in the game, but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously as it is a sonic game.

    The Modern sonic stages were also really fun with the boost gameplay, and the boss stages were a delight to play. I don't particularly enjoy the fully 2D Classic level but they weren't bad.

So when I heard that Sonic Forces was going to be a game like sonic unleashed, a dark story, a new engine, a boost to win title on next-gen consoles, and a fresh coat aI've been a sonic fan since I played the Sonic Games on the GameCube, Sonic Unleashed and a lot of the games after it was some well done 3d sonic games and are some of the game are in my top 10 favorite games of all time. So when I heard that Sonic Forces was going to be a game like sonic unleashed, a dark story, a new engine, a boost to win title on next-gen consoles, and a fresh coat a paint for the series, I couldn't wait for it! Unfortunately, this game didn't live up to the previous games released along with sonic mania. Heres my review!

    Plot: No spoilers for obvious reasons, but to sum things up. Sonic is defeated and apparently "tortured" for 6 months, in that time frame, Eggman takes over 99% of the world, which causes sonic's friends along with your custom character (called Avatar or Rookie) to create a resistance (star wars much?) to stop Eggman and defeat his new creation, Infinite. They later meet back up with tails and classic sonic, coming back from Sonic Mania to complete its story or something? Though this story is interesting, its execution is horrible, and the later parts of the story suck due to the villains being dumb as rocks and a force message about teamwork or something. Not a good way to do a "dark" story, oh and sonic wasn't tortured if he is still happy and go lucky. 3/10

    Gameplay: It's split up into three sections, Modern Sonic, Avatar, and Classic Sonic. Modern Sonic is the same boost to win formula as the previous games since sonic unleashed. It's well done, and nice to see again, but I wish it were more of a different take on speedy 3d platforming. The avatar gameplay is decent, you get to make your character and uses his wisp power to get through the level somewhat like the Modern Sonic stages. They're alright, not much, but nice to play. Then we get Classic Sonic... Sigh. Boy, was Classic Sonic wasted. Its just CS from Generations again, and the stages are kinda dull, and it controls awful. They should have removed him and had more stages with the Avatar and Modern Sonic. Speaking of Modern Sonic and Avatar, they have some stages where you play as both trying to get to the end of the level, using double boost at least once during the stage, they're better, but nothing special again. It seems like Sonic Team played it safe with this game, and it backfired severely in they're faces. They should have done a new gameplay style like Sonic Lost World or Mario Oddsey, the boost to win formula should have been retired before this game because it's not 100% fun anymore like Generations or Unleashed. It was still fun, but not as fun as I would have liked. 5/10

    Audio: The soundtrack is one of the best in the Sonic series, it's more cinematic, but its also filled with more sonic like music like fist bump and infinite's themes. More songs would be nice though, but still high quality. 9/10

    Bosses: Disappointing as well, the mini-bosses are way too easy, and the FInal Boss is also a joke. Take one look at the final boss (if you completed the game) and tell me it's not like the one from Colors and Lost World! 3/10

    Summary: Sonic Forces is a huge disappointment for me. The boost to win gameplay is fun, and so is the avatar and double gameplay. The soundtrack is fantastic and is one of the best sonic soundtracks along with sonic mania. However, the story, while it has a good idea, it's not well executed and a huge disappointment, it's not even that dark! Not to mention the Classic Sonic gameplay is pointless and can be removed from the game, and nothing would change. I wish this could have been the game to bring 3d sonic to the next gen, but instead, it has me wishing for more, and for someone else to give this series some justice just like Sonic Mania did. Sega, if you're listening to this, please let someone else make a sonic game, enough of the hedgehog engine, enough of Denuvo DRM and crashes, please have it open world or whatever with no DRM, and something that's not 2d again and helps gives the franchise some new life. Also, P.S. DON'T RUSH IT!

    Only the nostalgic levels really work, but if you want another run across cult classic Green Hill Zone, you can always launch Sonic Mania that came out back in August. [Issue#226, p.59]

    Sonic Forces’ few merits (like the soundtrack) are not enough to offset primitive gameplay, crude level design, poor pacing that completely obliterates the sense of speed, and the script that resembles a fanfic. [01/2018, p.42]

    I won’t pretend that Sonic Forces is a disappointment – it telegraphed its kitchen sink approach to content a long time ago. Desperately trying to please every kind of Sonic fan, it is every bit the mishmash of half realised ideas vying for your attention that it seemed like it would be. I guess I just never expected that their attempts to hold that attention would be so feeble.
