A quality step-up for a series that's still short of greatness.

Sniper Elite 5 brings a few improvements to an IP that works well. But after waiting for over 5 years, we would have hoped to see a bit more new stuff, and to be able to enjoy up-to date visuals and animations. Still, if you like the series, this journey through France will be quite enjoyable.

There’s not much about Sniper Elite 5 that’s particularly remarkable. That, however, didn’t stop the visceral X-Ray kills and the simple act of mowing down Nazis to see me through to the end of its campaign. There are plenty of other games out there that do stealth, action, or World War II better, yet the series’ formula is very much its own and does manage to carry a game that otherwise struggles to do anything interesting. Its flexible difficulty, the tension of invasions, and gruesome long-range executions keep things fun if the very premise appeals to you. But certain antiquated design choices and guns that don’t feel all that great keep Sniper Elite 5 from being memorable.

Sniper Elite 5 is a mission pack disguised as a sequel, with a bunch of small, unremarkable adjustments to the tried formula.

A consistently entertaining series steps up a gear to provide a true great of the genre. [Eurogamer Essential]
  2. Sniper Elite 5 maintains the series signature sharpshooting across some gorgeous locales, but its renewed emphasis on close-combat encounters often feels like a shallow sidestep away from your rifle, leaving objectives feeling flat and monotonous. The game's at its best when you can sit back and snipe like a champ, but when the campaign constantly forces you into tight, muddled environments, it ends up distracting you from that glorious sharpshooting. The new Invasion Mode ups the ante and makes missions more tense, while the new weapon customisation system lets you personalise your sniping experience, but the amount of time spent sprinting around means that Sniper Elite 5 often fails to hit the mark.

In general it's well thought, but not polished.
Shooting's fun as always, multiple paths you can take, stealthy or not, side missions to tackle.

Then you get bugged out and have to reload or restart the game multiple times for the script to let you complete the mission or you'd have to start it all over. Mission targets not spawning or vanishing, side quests not registering its fullfillment, poor AI (even on realistic), controls try to stick you to the walls to much, terrain glitches that'll throw you under the map or make you stuck, invisible walls in unexpected places, crashes when loading save or closing game (lol). And that's what you get since the first mission.

I'm not a huge fan of invasion mode too. It intends to be a challenge, but is either a campfest or random bullet. Worst case, you get pinned by 20 enemies on pretty open field, get invaded, die, declined rematch, try to deal with enemies again - hey, you got invaded! Repeat like 10 times. Turn it off and have fun.
