    Worst of the trilogy we had maybe they have ran out of ideas ? The story is one of the most predictable stuff I can come up with the combat doesn't fell really good and the underwater stealth sections are the killers. I liked the tombs we had and some side quests were actually decent but if you ask me about the game and it's story I would not be able to tell you because only Jonah isWorst of the trilogy we had maybe they have ran out of ideas ?     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Przyjemny kolorowy dżunglowy klimat to było to, czego brakowało mi od pierwszych odsłon z 1996 roku. Ta odsłona niestety, mimo przyzwoitej fabuły oraz otoczenia, nie była dla mnie polaryzująca. Ewidentnie mimo olśniewającej grafiki zabrakło tu tego czegoś, co miały poprzednie tomb raidery. Zaznaczam oczywiście, że nowa seria nie jest zła, ale jest lekko ponad średniej, porównując ją do klasyków. Daję 7 za poziom graficzny, mechanikę oraz trochę za fabułę.… Expand

    It's both beautiful and boring, but even more boring... The tempo problem is really overwhelming. Better gameplay should have been given with these beautiful graphics.

    Meanwhile the plot is way too far-fetched and makes zero sense, I still had some fun on this one.
    The graphics were kinda ok, beautiful landscapes and all but the characters weren't pretty and were lacking variation. Even Lara's face had some weird renders, especially in the in-game photo mode.

    Apart from all that, I really liked the whole ambiance of the game and still had fun resolving the different puzzles the game offers. That, and exploring the jungle, finding letters giving you some lore about this ancient civilisation.    … Expand

    The only thing that is improved in this game is the sound of guns shooting but everything else from the story to the character designs for the main 2 is worse the game was so boring and infuriating to play at one point I quit and never played it again

    Lara has no motivation, they don’t explain to us why she needs these artifacts, how she found out about them and how she got here at all, there are practically no new mechanics, shooting is disgusting, enemies are stupid like felt boots, Lara constantly has bouts of idiocy, she often hysterias and generally leads acting like a dumb dignitary, there are A LOT of cliché moments, the tombsLara has no motivation, they don’t explain to us why she needs these artifacts, how she found out about them and how she got here at all, there are practically no new mechanics, shooting is disgusting, enemies are stupid like felt boots, Lara constantly has bouts of idiocy, she often hysterias and generally leads acting like a dumb dignitary, there are A LOT of cliché moments, the tombs have become absolutely uninteresting, very monotonous and the rewards for passing are absolutely useless and useless to anyone, almost all skills are useless because they are directly or indirectly related to the combat, but only in the game the combat is almost never used , there are almost no action scenes in the game, the whole game is some kind of corridor and the feeling that this is one location, an absolutely idiotic concept of a secret city, which is located in the most prominent place where oil has been extracted a couple of kilometers and have been excavated for 400 years and traders who they sell new guns, while they themselves use primitive ones. In short, this is **** I absolutely do not recommend it, and it would be even better if you don’t go through it at all, it’s not worth it, don’t spoil the opinion about the franchise with this terrible project!… Expand

    В отличие от предыдущих двух, в этой части нет никакой особенности или фишки. Короткая игра с плохим сюжетом, таким же графоном и без каких-то новых фишек. Играть можно, но это проходняк и не более.

    - The level design and gameplay is incredibly railroaded and linear. You can only swandive off ledges. You can't manually turn on your flashlight. You can't manually duck or crawl. The game is completely filled with 'automatic' 'movielike' moments where Lara climbs something, squeezes through openings where all control is taken away for too long at a time. It's so linear and simple the game is almost a movie where you hold forward and jump or climb occasionally. The only backtracking you'll ever do will be for pointless loot. You don't traverse opens levels, finding keys and opening doors in earlier places. It's non stop A to B on a wheelbarrow sized path with no deviation except for the few hub area's where all you do is just walk around for an hour opening boxes full of crafting material loot.

    - The story script is laughably bad (oh you got locked in this temple basement that was hidden for 4 thousand years? I know a way around see ya there!). During the story on multiple occasions people get caught and imprisoned and it feels completely pointless, arbitrary and dumb like the story was too boring so they just shoved some prisoners in there. You see them get spotted and caught in the cutscenes and it looks like an elementary school stage play. They weren't cornered but instead of running just decide to surrender simply because the writers said they should. It's utterly stupid and breaks any immersion in a believable story. There are a ton of gripes I have with this, from the plane crashing right near the place they have to go to uncivilized savages living literally 300ft from a modern tourist village to the 15 ft open area's with 30 boars running around just to get shot and so on. The writing, story and worldbuilding are DEEPLY mediocre and something you expect out of a first year game design college student not the new AAA Tomb Raider franchise entry.

    - The AI is horrible and the stealth mechanics are crude, inconsistent and flawed. It feels two decades old.

    - The weapons with upgrades look atrocious and you can't unequip suppressors, they are applied to ALL your weapons automatically and are stuck there for the rest of your game. You encounter the first merchant right after you get a pistol. I bought the suppressor thinking it would be a wise investment for one of my pistols. The thing got applied to ALL my future handguns with no way to unequip, looks horrendously ugly and I never even heard the regular pistols without suppressor in the entire game. Weapon model sizes are also messed up. Comically large pistols, toy sized shotguns. Proportions are completely broken.

    - I've encountered a fair amount of bugs and glitches. Lara's model glitching out when platforming, my rifle not firing in full automatic but getting stuck in semi auto, fire puzzle softlocking until I restarted a checkpoint, lara jumping in the wrong direction even with a straight camera and keyboard imputs. Investigating items in the inventory is broken. It's quite bad. And I don't make these accusations lightly, these were 100% actual game problems.

    - Abysmal map variety. Everything starts looking the same, endless jungle, it goes from beautiful to incredibly tedious. On multiple occasions I got so bored knowing I had to go through more of the same I just stopped playing for periods.

    - The skill upgrades and crafting feel tacked on and pointless

    - Very mediocre animal combat. animals just awkwardly nudge you and then you just sorta... fall over dead

    - Lara comes across as very self absorbed. Every time Jonah starts talking about his struggles or missing his family Lara never acknowledges him, asks him about it or anything but instead instantly starts talking about herself and her family and becomes the center of the conversation. It's really awkward.

    - Underwater stealth sections are really, really bad

    - Trinity is an incredibly boring and bland villain. And the same cliché encounters are recycled in every game.

    - Multiple hard crashes. I can't remember the last time a game crashed on me. But SotTR has hard crashed my entire pc multiple times.

    - Skills like bow multishot are finnicky and half the time don't work for sh*t

    - QA missed a lot of faults in map design quality, I can see sunlight peeking through the walls of deep underground caves and temples because level designers missed closing them off properly

    SotTR has a solid base to be something beautiful but it doesn't do anything interesting or engaging and sticks to 6/10-ing every aspect of itself, separating itself from truly great AAA games that rise above by going all in on proper thought out, fleshed out ideas and mechanics. SotTR sticks to old, half baked concepts and it's plagued by a metric ton of lack of polish and proper quality finish in every aspect.    … Expand

    Like the previous Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games, this is more of the same: amazing graphics, wonderfully detailed environment, fun platforming, and satisfying challenge tombs. Combat is more stealth-oriented than previous games because you can now lurk in the foliage and backstab goons when they least suspect it. This is in a way good because it makes the game much more believable.Like the previous Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games, this is more of the same: amazing graphics, wonderfully detailed environment, fun platforming, and satisfying challenge tombs. Combat is more stealth-oriented than previous games because you can now lurk in the foliage and backstab goons when they least suspect it. This is in a way good because it makes the game much more believable. Unfortunately, the emphasis on stealth invalidates the value in improving your combat-oriented skills and upgrading your weapons. The story and dialogue, which are once again emphasized, continue to be mediocre.… Expand

    To start with, I must say that SOTTR has amazing graphics and is visually astonishing. The diversity of levels' environment and how detailed they are, are praiseworthy. The details and the destructibility (Specially in flood mission) was amazing. However, I can't say the same thing for story because it was pretty bad. Seeing the series is becoming a fantasy game rather than an adventureTo start with, I must say that SOTTR has amazing graphics and is visually astonishing. However, I can't say the same thing for story because it was pretty bad. Seeing the series is becoming a fantasy game rather than an adventure game was very painful for me!
    Gameplay seemed to be a copy paste from last game, but it was fine.
    Controls sometimes were frustrating (Specially when it came to throw a hook while jumping).
    Also Combat system wasn't too good. Same can be said for customizing and upgrading weapons.
    To conclude, if you don't have a RTX do not play this game. Because it has nothing but good graphics.

    - Plot is way worse than the previous games
    - Even disabling the awful survival instinct the game still bothers you with full screen messages indicating what you need to do. And there are some places were disabling the survival instinct doesn't works.
    - It's super annoying how the game forces you to walk for several minutes while crossing specific areas. Without being able to run, jump, or do anything else than slowly walking out of that area.
    - It's quite stupid that you have lots of outfits but you can only use the tribal ones during 80% of the game

    The only improvement I like in this game are the power up plants.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Play right after 2nd game, otherwise you will not understand a thing. Overall worth playing to finish off the franchise and put it to rest. Not worth purchasing at full price for sure.

    Graphical Issues:
    - Very basic, but the image output is very dull (bright areas aren't bright enough and mix up with shadows). Adding Nvidia game filter for clarity fixed it, but this should not be an issue for a AAA game.
    - It's been 4 years since release, and the dxgi_error_device_hung error that causes you to crash every 30 minutes still hasn't been fixed. It's not my GPU, Cyberpunk 2077 runs totally fine on maximum settings (no RT). I have a feeling the game has a VRAM leak or something similar.
    - The Hidden Village location runs at below 60 FPS (vs usual 90 FPS everywhere else) and drops to below 40 FPS in some spots even on all minimum settings with "ultra performance" DLSS setting on. Nobody bothered to fix it.

    So many plot holes too:
    - What does everyone speak English? I mean sure, Lara is a linguist or whatever, but since when does Jonah (the ship cook from 1st game) speak perfect ancient Incan?
    - The hidden village is so hidden, Jonah and Lara were able to get there by boat without issues.
    - They make a point of Lara hiding her weapons and wearing local clothing when entering this "ancient" hidden village society, they forget about it in the last cut scenes where she's wearing modern gear and weapons and all.

    Plot:
    - I didn't understand half of it.
    - I am not sure what the rebellion is, if they all just hangout in the city with the bad guy guards and nobody cares.
    - Trinity, what Trinity? Oh yeah. Never mind the build up from the 2nd game. You are just informed they are killed off over the radio.

    Some game elements are bizarre:
    - The dialect learning is pointless now, there aren't enough things to discover and it's just 1 dialect instead of 3 in the last game.    … Expand

It is a bit more bombastic, taking inspiration from Uncharted, so it still feels unsure of what it wants to be. The best thing would be the challenge tombs (esp DLC) which are fun, the worst, the main story which is bland.
    I would have liked a bit more backtracking in the dungeons so they feel more like    I expected this one to be the worst in the new trilogy and was pleasantly surprised. It is a bit more bombastic, taking inspiration from Uncharted, so it still feels unsure of what it wants to be. The best thing would be the challenge tombs (esp DLC) which are fun, the worst, the main story which is bland.
    I would have liked a bit more backtracking in the dungeons so they feel more like Zelda or exploration and a bit less combat.    … Expand

    I like the maya stuff and graphics are great too.
    There are more thrilling cinematic moments in comparison to the predecessor Rise of the Tomb Raider.
    But frankly speaking - as a casual player - some quests have been too tricky for my taste.

What should be a further development upon previous games feels more like a cheap reuse of assets just to throw together a weak story with cheap writing. Lara's mood roller-coasters make even less sense, especially for someone who plays a fragile thing, when she just killed some    What a letdown.

    An OK closure to the new trilogy. Rise of the Tomb Raider is still the best in my opinion but this one is not a bad game by any means.

    Truly a spectacle when it comes to visuals. The story, however, is starting to fall flat and uncreative. Tomb raider needs innovation and creativity to the level that Tomb Raider (2013) was to Tomb Raider (1998) for it to become anything more than a copy and paste formula

    In some aspects Shadow is the best game in the survivor trilogy, i was happy with the bigger emphasis on 'optional' tomb raiding and exploration, somewhat more complex puzzles, altough still not as complex as games that came before current reboot, decreased focus on combat compared to previous 2 games, though there was still plenty of it. However Shadow also gets held back by the lack ofIn some aspects Shadow is the best game in the survivor trilogy, i was happy with the bigger emphasis on 'optional' tomb raiding and exploration, somewhat more complex puzzles, altough still not as complex as games that came before current reboot, decreased focus on combat compared to previous 2 games, though there was still plenty of it. However Shadow also gets held back by the lack of innovation, it still feels just like playing TR 2013 and Rise, it has clumsy story telling, progression gets bogged down by the bloated hub worlds and weird decisions when it comes to Lara's outfits.

    The jungle setting of Peru looks great, and with the plethora of Incan, Mayan temples and stuff, there is a glimpse of a sense that Tomb Raider has moved closer to what it once was, though after a while the evironments do start to look and feel repetative. I believe that the concept of TR being set in one location per game has to go and multiple levels around the world need to return.

    Shadow retains the same core gameplay mechanics as previous 2 games, where they felt dated in Shadow, with the reboot's simplistic platforming mechanics especially feeling worn out. 2 new additions are rappelling which was rather basic, aswell as inclined rock wall climbing which also didnt really add anything compared to standard pick axe climbing.
    Gunplay finally felt somewhat above average, in the sense that guns finally felt like they have some weight behind them, though when enemies recieve your fire, they react and go down very stiffly.
    There's improved stealth gameplay, but enemy AI is still overpowered, if you hit one enemy with a silent arrow while hidden, every enemy in the area instanly knows your location. Ability to take cover along over grown walls, use mud as camo, are fun new additions. Sadly you're still strong armed by the game to only go lethal during stealth, there are still no non-lethal options, you're still forced to go Rambo.

    I keep seeing people complaining that Shadow has too little combat, which i honestly find for the better. Combat shouldnt be Tomb Raider's main attraction. Though there are still more than enough combat encounters in the game, some that are the most over the top in the whole franchise, so i dont fully understand complaints of these players. You're still getting to, ugh, kill hundreds of people in the game.

    Eidos Montreal applied some dumb logic behind Lara's outfits and restrictions when, and which, of them can be worn. I think an English woman already sticks out like a sore thumb in a hidden to the outside world Peruvian city. So why should Lara be restricted to the 1 native dress, cult priest's outfit and the many lame tribal rags ?
    Sticking to outfits, i really disliked majority of them, apart from the Blue Heron dress, all of the tribal outfits were just hideous, the bulky Brocken and the WW1 style military outfits were horrid aswell, even Lara's default outfit was kind of crap due to the atrocious baggy, dull pants. The only outfit that i enjoyed turned out to be 'Adventurer'. Why cant they design modern, fun, interesting outfits for Lara that exemplify her athleticism and femininity?
    And for the 3rd time in a row not a single classic series outfit was included either, and no, replacing default outfit's color scheme doesnt make it a classic outfit. Which honestly doesnt suprise me anymore ever since the ignorant attitude from Eidos Montreal developers who assumed that when fans ask for classic outfits, they actually ask for...bikini. Yes, that's the type of people who develop Tomb Raider now.

    Main storyline was servicable at best. The key hook of the story being Lara facing the consequences of her actions didnt work as well the writers probably thought it would, the 'consequences' felt more like an excuse to create bombastic, on rails, set piece moments.
    The main villain was decently multi-faceted, altough his motivations were often challenging to follow. There's a lot of background collectible lore you need to read to grasp what is going on.
    The narrative progression was messy too, as in when you arrive at a new hub area, the pace of the story just halts, similiarly to how it did in Rise, with you getting bombarded with side activities to do, killing the feeling of urgency of your main quest.
    The ending could've been handled much better aswell, as a villain, who taunts Lara for much of the game, gets unceremoniously killed off in a short scene by an NPC, not Lara. An integral part of Trinity, that the game teases, gets killed off screen too. Final boss battle, while not special or innovative, atleast was handled better than in prior 2 games.

    And by the end, i didnt feel like Lara actually became the Tomb Raider that ''she was meant to become'', like it was being hyped up in the game's marketing, i didnt feel that evolution, besides that, she still didnt pick up her iconic dual pistols, nor her classic outfit.     И на том спасибо. Геймплейно ничего толком не изменилось. Бегаете туда-сюда, стреляетесь да решаете головоломки. Хваленный стелс скучный и на самом высоком уровне сложности не возникает желания пройти тихо локацию, так как проще просто снести тупейших ботов и пройти далее. И из этого вываливается проблема после прохождения нельзя добить убийства, которые остались со способностями или под бустами, тк системы столкновений из того же Анчартед банально нет. ФРиплей есть чисто дособрать артефакты и гробницы, но не добить боевые достижения. Глупо получается и не менее глупо, что спустя три года не починен квест в невидимым Писко, которому невозможно сдать квест.
    Какая же халтура, Скворечник!
    Фактически 20 часов Крофт и игрок просто бегают по условно открытым локациям с некоторым количеством НПС, которые и дают информацию и указания на секреты в окрестностях. За 20-30 часов решать головоломки не надоедает, что позволяет не заскучать смертельно, но все равно сквозное сравнение с Анчартед Тумб Райдер не выдерживает. Плюс хочу отметить, что даже спустя два года с релиза словил одинаковые баги с невидимыми НПС, дающие квесты без диалогов. Смотрится разговор Лары со стеной, об этом баге уже упоминал ранее, довольно нелепо! Нельзя списать уже на сырость игры , тк прошло достаточно времени. Это не РПГ на 200 часов, а бродилка со всеми DLC на 45! Как так?!
    Вердикт прост: на распродаже берите полное издание и ни в коем случае не за полный ценник. Скворечник нужно отучать от привычки резать свои игры и продавать в виде DLC с багами.
    Им видимо было мало разгромленных за это Deus Ex и той же Ларки с допом на час про Бабу Ягу.
    Хватит уже рвать игры на части!
    Посему несмотря на качественно проведенную работу над ошибками только строго четверка с минусом.

    Definitely worst story and characters in the trilogy. The game is made well, but the storyline is still essential.

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider isn't a bad game, but it falls short.

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider plays it way too safe. It feels like I am playing a big story DLC for Rise of the Tomb Raider. While this can be considered a good thing, I see it as the publisher not taking enough risk, and pushing out cookie cutter games. There are improves here and there, but the game lacks the polish Rise had.    Shadow of the Tomb Raider isn't a bad game, but it falls short.

There are improves here and there, but the game lacks the polish Rise had. Animations are jankier, optimization seems worse, clipping, glitches are more evident. But again, its not horrible, but noticable.

    Story wise, the game actually makes you kinda hate Lara. She essentially makes a huge mistake, doesn't own up to it, and tries going right back to again save the world from Trinity! Not only do I hate playing as the main character, but her reason to exist is to fight Trinity. Again, the story is played too safe by just continuing the Trinity organization that I thought ended in Rise. Can we atleast be fighting something different now?

    Originally, I was not going to review this game. After though of hearing the review bombing because of the discount weeks after release, I decided that I couldn't give the game a pass anymore. It was the build up of everything wrong with this game, and the discount was just the cherry on the top. It shows alot when a game is put on sale weeks after release, not to the customers who willing bought the game, but to the publisher essentially showing their newly released game isn't worth $60, never mind the boat loads for the other editions.

    The story is ok I guess, the characters are kinda boring, there isn't much to say about it other than it was disappointing. The only reason anyone should play it is the graphics and if it wasn't for the graphics the score would be a lot lower.

I can't buy her air of fragility when she keeps massacring people - where's the PTSD? Feeling of regret? Even thoughts of "am I right in doing that?". No sir, she storms the tombs like a one person storm trooper, and feels nothing. I'm having difficulties finishing the game because this is chilling my blood. My own protagonist scares me. This is not a good storytelling - I've played many Naughty Dog games, and it's not like that.    … Expand

Я понимаю, что эксплоринг - буквально выгравирован в бренде Tomb Raider, но, когда у твоего персонажа куча оружия, которое еще можно менять, апгрейдить, есть стелс механики, а 90% перков прокачки завязаны на боёвке, а тебе 90% времени предлагают ползать и плавать и собирать ресурсы, это вызывает вопросы, как минимум. Нам даже презентовали новую стелс-механику измазывания в грязи, которую активно рекламировали в трейлерах, но на деле я применил ее 2!! раза за прохождение (пока завис на 72%) и это было совершенно необязательно. И вообще самих стычек с врагами было около ТРЁХ. Персонажи блеклые, сеттинг быстро надоедает, вымышленная Сибирь была куда интереснее и разнообразнее. второстепенные задания не выдерживают никакой критики. Не обошлось и без повесточки. Хотя казалось, бы сама Лара Крофт воплощение сильной и независимой. Абсолютно все мужские персонажи в игре, кроме Ионы не вызывают ничего, кроме жалости и смеха, с другой стороны все главные женские персонажи по крутости на уровне Лары.Так же возникают вопросы, почему в племенах амазонии все знают английский и знакомы с современными технологиями и даже продают их, мужчины почему то ходят с голыми задницами и торсом, а женщины чуть ли не в паранже, Из хорошего можно выделить неплохие головоломки в гробницах, проработанную лицевую анимацию Лары, она действительно кажется живой, хотя ей всё-ровно чего-то не хватает, может быть любовный интерес как-то разбавил пресноватость ее характера. Графика на уровне Rise, местами хуже, местами лучше и при этом выдает просадки по фпс, хотя в Rise
    всю игру в 90-60 прошел. Полным разочарованием оказались даже костюмы для Лары. Вердикт: 6 из 10. Если вы играли в Rise of Tomb Raider, то игра абсолютно ничего нового вам не даст, вероятно только разочарует. Неплохая игра, но абсолютно ненужная, скучная, вторичная.    … Expand

    It's Very interesting game, but there are nothing interesting in scenery, scenery is bad, so there are a lot of climbing(90% of gameplay) and regular climbing is so boring, but i think that if were there 50% of gameplay, it will be interesing. By itself climbing is very interesting, but there too much climbing. In another aspects game is very interesting

    - The motivation of the antagonist is pleasing - at least not typical for villains of this genre of games.
    What I did not like (in general, and compared to Larissa in 2016):
    - everything is super scripted: somewhere the game helps you on purpose, and somewhere you can't get caught in the obvious ledge or jump on a plane.
    - the characters' experiences and their "game" are too underplayed in all aspects.
    - the game has turned out to be a hyper simple - as example: a skill that allows you to no longer press the lead button and more other things.
    - the passage of tombs and crypts does not motivate anybody to get some really useful cookie after passing a couple of such places.
    - for me personally, being able to kraft and change clothes is a completely useless thing in the game.
    - expected more drama from the story, and in the end only 2 or 3 scenes/levels were remembered and that's it.
    - sad from the ending at all, because I didn't expect it to be the same. But on the plus side, at least she's somehow ending Larissa's dialogue/triology of adventure.
    - the main character's appearance is less attractive, but the hips are still good.    … Expand

    Graphics: A massive mixed bag, the in game cut scenes look fantastic as well as the lighting and overall the game looks pretty solid, however sometimes the game is just downright ugly with washed out colours, characters looking clay-like and the game often looking pixelated especially background scenery.

    Gameplay: Very similar to Rise of the Tomb Raider, except Rise of the Tomb Raider took what was good about its predecessor and improved upon it. Shadow does the opposite of this with few additions to the Rise gameplay and the game just feels so much clunkier than Rise as well as being frustrating at times with quick time events and bad level design with the game feeling incredibly linear. The game also punishes you for going stealth with the bow being practically useless since most enemies take multiple hits to kill regardless of headshots, better off going guns blazing like Uncharted.

    Story: It sucks, the devs clearly didn't care about the story so why should I? Cookie cutter two dimensional characters that are picked up and dropped like a rock, peoples motivations aren't explained and Lara is the only character that is likeable (just barely)

    Audio: The music is pretty decent, however the audio will cut out at times and the lip syncing will also go out of sync from time to time.

    Overall: To sum up, the game is noticeably worse than its predecessors. The game is too linear and holds your hand tightly with incredibly uninspired level design. It looks pretty good visually (for the most), the gameplay is fine (even though its forgettable) and the story, well you won't remember it after a day. Sadly the game is just mediocre, maybe pick it up in a couple of years during a Steam sale for $5? Almost forgot to mention, the game has quite a few bugs including visual bugs, audio bugs and gameplay bugs that require you to reload from the last checkpoint. Have fun :)

    Edit: Also realised I missed an entire scene (the cool scene where she rises from the water with flames etc) as the game just skipped it, the scene just didn't happen it cut past it, just another bug worth pointing out.    … Expand

Bearing in mind that the TR skill tree is utterly pointless, none of the upgrades makes a blind bit of difference to the gaming experience, this makes the end result meaningless and unrewarding.
    The best bits of the game can be found away from the main story line with side missions and general exploration, and especially where things get a little freaky, the worst bit is mashing the "survival instinct" button every second making sure you're not missing some pointless item or resource.
    A little bit shocked just how easily killing and dealing with death comes to Lara. She seems to have no compunction in piercing someone with an arrow and hanging them from a tree or stabbing them in the back of the head.

I mean take a chill pill, do you not have THE best job in the world: travel to exotic places discover ancient treasures and artifacts. Where is your joy Lara?     Bought this game to try out the capabilities of Stadia, so I'm essentially playing on a (remote) PC. Very nice graphics and environment, but the game is really bad.
    Ok, the exploration puzzles are where the game excels, if that's what you like. You pull levers, jump over traps, find contraptions that still work after several centuries, and explore a number of admittedly gorgeous locales.     Ok, the exploration puzzles are where the game excels, if that's what you like. You pull levers, jump over traps, find contraptions that still work after several centuries, and explore a number of admittedly gorgeous locales.
    Combat is pretty bad, with unsatisfying weapons, a terrible over the shoulder aiming system that enemies take advantage of, and especially obnoxious stealth mechanics. There's a point mid game where you lose all your equipment (oh my god, why do almost all game have to have such a section???) and are forced in a really abysmal sequence. You don't have the freedom of Assassin's Creed: you need to pass through very small areas with forced choke points, and need to find out the exact, scripted sequence that will allow you to beat the level purely by trial and error. First you need to go left and dispose of the first guy with thermal goggles. Then don't kill the other two guys, or enemies will see you. You need to go left, wait for another guy to pass, etc. Zero gameplay freedom, and never mind the fact that all the enemies you kill drop firearms, and yet the game prevents you from picking up any. Boring and irritant as hell!
    Oh, and don't get me started on the genius side quests! For example, one requires you to free four rebels who have been "crucified" through the village as examples. How do you do it? Walk around the village following the map markers and click Y when you reach a prisoner. That's it. And the rest are not much better.
    I cringe at the dialogues going on in the background: I honestly don't think that South America is populated by retarded people who reason like 11 years-old children, and yet they are so simplistically written that I cannot help but feel embarrassed.
    I've played Uncharted 4 not too long ago, and while both games really stretch suspension of disbelief to the limit, U4 has way, way better writing and characterization. Tomb Raider is a feminist dream. You visit a modern jungle village, whose unofficial leader is an exceedingly capable young woman. Then a village lost to time, whose leader is a super-badass-wise-courageous woman, Unuratu. Oh, you also encounter some savage deformed humans, led by - you guessed right - a woman. U4 has a male protagonist but does not misrepresent women, quite the opposite: Helena is a great character who can adventure hand in hand with Nathan, and one enemy is a mercenary gal who repeatedly beats the crap out of Nathan. In Tomb Raider, what do we have? Lara's meek friend-servant Jonah, who never tries to keep up with her at anything, plus a number of dummies, who repeatedly get humiliated, in multiple instances, by the super-ladies in the game. Just pay attention to NPC dialogues, for multiple examples that would never get approved if sexes were switched. Unuratu, the uber queen, repeatedly defeats in combat men who are obviously much, much stronger than her, and at one point stops a whole army of warriors, by herself. Men? They obviously suck, unless they are serving women, in which case they are tolerated. There's a supposed super soldier from the US Special Forces, who can only kill one target person by shooting them in the back, that's about what his super-soldier status amounts to.
    All in all, the gorgeous setting does not save the game, I'm really not enjoying it. I'll try to finish it but I'll probably give up once the inevitable confrontation with the evil stupid male opponents arrives.    … Expand

To major drawbacks: A really uninspired script including bland dialog and sloppy character development and a very drab and plain Lara, neither badass nor likeable. Bearing in mind that this game came out after Horizon Zero Dawn and Lost Legacy, I wonder why the animations are so clumsy and the storyline is so predictable.     Nothing special. I played with pleasure. But I forgot the game 5 minutes after the end. What do we have in the end. Nice graphics. Beautiful Lara Croft. Gameplay from past parts. And an uninteresting plot.

    A decent game overall, but found I had to push to complete it as i didn't find the story that interesting. I definitely think its the worst of the last 3. I found the tombs to be the best part of the game. I also think the tombs have the best graphics especially compared to the hidden city. I also came across a number of graphical bugs and some minor annoyances.

    Graphics are good, gameplay is good, but the storyline in this one just seems tedious and boring. It's just a grind ... more of go here, grab that .... by 25 % in it still wasn't grabbing my attention. I left off before finishing completely because it was becoming such a chore to finish. I have more fun replaying TR2013 and ROTTR

    This game is technically proficient with pretty visuals. I made it all the way through but nearer the end it became a grind; especially due to forced stealth sections which always bother me.     The worst part of this game is the convoluted story which makes no sense. The writers felt they needed to link all indigenous American cultures into one stupid fanciful narrative. They pepper in some Trinity stuff and some mutilated lipless monsters and human sacrifice .. it is really bad... a really dumb white-savior story, which is tired. The game is fun, however, traversal is still enjoyable. The setting is gorgeous. The game plays too well to go lower than 6. The story is awful.     The worst of the three. The features of rpg increase greatly. Lots of customization of weapons. Very few enemies. I have developed many weapons and unlocked many skills.Probably never even used. The game drives so much exploration in order to improve skills without a real sense since there are no enemies. The story is discreet. But never exciting

    The game has an amazing story and the cutscenes are really nice to watch since Lara is more involved with the people in the world as opposed to simply flying solo. The lore for the collectibles continue to be an interesting read, and there is a lot for you to search and collect.

    The combat is sadly bland, and most of the puzzles are straightforward and hold your hand through them, which kind of ruins the fun. The traps are meaningless too, since they are incredibly easy to detect and there's really only two different kinds of traps. The skills, items and so on are completely unnecessary; if anything, they make the game too easy. I stopped upgrading Lara not long after starting the game because of this.

    I suggest NOT using any DLC-related weapons, since they make the combat too easy. (But seeing as how the combat's kind of annoying to deal with anyway, it might not a bad idea either.) Having to use your basic weapons and needing three shots to kill something isn't ideal, and just wastes your time with the fighting. But it's your choice.

    Ultimately, I had some difficulty figuring out what to rate this sequel. On one hand, the game feels good; it's great to explore a vast world and there's plenty to do. On the other hand, because of how easy and one-dimensional it is, it can become a chore after long sessions.

    I've always played the TR series with a controller, but due to a serious issue in this sequel where the camera is extremely sensitive on it, I've had to maneuver differently in order to make up for the poor aiming. This sequel is definitely easier to play with a keyboard and mouse. Sadly, Square Enix doesn't seem to be addressing this issue at all.

    I can only give this game a 7, because giving it an 8 would imply that the game is fine, when it isn't. Although the story was absolutely spectacular, the lack of decent traps and puzzles to increase the tomb difficulty was a disappointment.     Challenge tombs are impressive and satisfying to solve. Dense, beautiful environments and hub areas are exciting to explore. Tense traversal setpieces highlight great level design. BUT Stealth feels inconsistent and unsophisticated. Combat mechanics feel clumsy and unsuited to most encounters. Platforming can be frustratingly imprecise.

    I want the bad arse with the mansion, the classy accent and the dual pistols back. I've enjoyed these games, but if this is the story of 'how she became to tomb raider', and it's over: can we have the actual tomb raider now?

    Also, stop with the endless cutscenes, give the players some meaningful choices, and get rid of those damned time trials (every other mechanic is great, but those are grindy and annoying).

    Cinematic is nice, and your story telling is nice (although the overall plot was very similar to the 2nd game), but often with cinematic games it feels like you are just watching a movie with challenges inbetween. Like the things you do have no impact. I enjoyed the story telling it was good, but I grow very tired of games where the player makes no real difference to the game. You have skills, crafting, dialogue, storytelling: Why not go the full hog, make the next one an adventure RPG with meaningful choices, and dialogue options?-    … Expand

    Side quests are disaster, npcs are army of clones. Most of the time weapons and outfits are locked, so you are forced to wear that fancy tribe outfit and use bow.
    All these mechanics from trailers like using mud or "hunting down" your enemies are **** because there are almost no fights.

    Simply it's not game for 2013 and 2015 TR fans. If you like adventure and exploration, it's great. Otherwise you have nothing to do here.    … Expand

    Authors have serious problem with gender diversity (same level but opposite). You really dont want see mud on Lara as dog food. "Shadow Of The Uncharted" it's just frustrating linear corridor with QTE. Dont buy this game, atleast without playing free trial.

    Nevertheless, I must admit it is the game that most sticks to the nature of old Tomb Raider games, but because of this it stuck itself in a very ancient formula in terms of mechanics.

    The story itself is the most mediocre of the trilogy, while it was meant to show us how Lara evolved since the first game in terms of how she sees the world of a treasure hunter, she suddenly takes a dagger perfectly placed in the deep of a cave just as an ancient and valuable treasure would be without taking into account its consequences, which she actually did in previous games, so this intermediately contradicts the aim of the game of showing "a raper Lara".

    One of the few things that stand out of this slight mess are its visuals, achieving spectacular landscapes and a very detailed modeling and illumination, turning into one of the games with most awesome visuals of this generation, but this seems quite opaqued for its questionable optimization, in which it's worth to say this game its protected by the Denuvo anti-tamper, which obviously repercutes negatively on its performance.

    Conclusion: at least that you have a +$1500 worth PC, I wouldn't recommend you to buy this game in this platform. Shadow of the Tomb Raider fails on the good story-telling that previous game achieved, sometimes feeling it takes you thorough kind of randomized scenes in a single sequence, introducing little creative mechanics on its gameplay worth to call it a new part of the series due to its desire of sticking to the firsts Lara Croft games, staying way behind the rest of its genre games. Nevertheless, this desire its worth to highlight from the developers although they didn't carry through the concept very well and evolving the exploration and tombs concept of the series.

    So what makes this game a 6/10? The questionable gameplay loop that focuses on exploration and puzzles. Don't get me wrong, the puzzles and the exploration are good, but they tend to drag on for so long without seeing something to shoot or someone to talk to (no, Lara radioing in to report to an ally does not count as meaningful conversation!). It gets boring solving the really long puzzles, no matter how inventive and creative it gets.

    And then there are really long bouts of running around villages, talking to people, and looting stuff. It's just...boring. Especially since Lara are Jonah are the only recurring characters, Lara never seems to create meaningful bonds with other characters. This fits Lara's rather nomadic, adventurer personality, but it makes for a lifeless world. A game series with long "village" loops (lots of running around, doing sidequests, talking to NPCs) that works is the Mass Effect series (not counting the train wreck that is Andromeda). Why? Because your player character has agency - you can affect the outcome of the quests. Plus, a lot of the quests directly involve party members, so it's fun to see how your party members react to/affect your questline. ROTTR has absolutely NONE of those fun elements.

    What I'm getting at is that the game inherently has a weird gameplay loop and gameplay design with overly long segments. Puzzles drag on per segment, village exploration drags on per segment, combat areas drag on as well. With the way the world is structured, there's just no way around this kind of gameplay loop. A game with a fun puzzle-exploration-combat loop was Darksiders II. The puzzle solving was easily broken up with bouts of fighting enemies and bosses; this makes all the difference. ROTTR can't do that because it's rooted in semi-realism - enemies can't just pop up in between puzzles to break up the monotony unlike Darksiders II.

    To be honest, I'm glad this series is over. This gritty, realistic Lara is cool (super hot, super badass, nice soothing voice, etc.), but she and the world around her is boring, and that's despite the supernatural elements interspersed in the game. I think the franchise needs to return to the more action-oriented, fantastical Tomb Raider; this trilogy is an instance where semi-realism gets in the way of good gameplay. Gameplay > realism ALWAYS. Game dev 101.

    I hope this trilogy doesn't kill the Tomb Raider series, because it has so much potential. The devs just need to have fun with it. Give Lara interesting guns, make her stronger, more agile, and all-around more fun to play as. Give her enemies greater depth and variety, realism be damned. Make her fight ancient terrifying monsters, large and small, on a regular basis, not just towards the climax. Make it a large, semi-open world (the one thing Andromeda got right) where she can be badass and ride a dirtbike loaded with her badass gear. Give her a small group of allies that stay with her throughout the journey that comment on her choices and her adventures. Give her agency over questlines. Insert fun and interesting ways to break up puzzle-solving and exploration. Give more meaningful weapon customization. The sky is the limit. There is so much that can be done to revitalize this franchise gone wrong. And for goodness' sake, GIVE HER BACK THE SIGNATURE DUAL PISTOLS, REALISM.BE.DAMNED.    … Expand

    Im giving it a 7 because i thing it is a good game, but with some problems.
    Compared to AC Odyssey, the voice acting, facial animations and cinematics just look gorgeous. The game runs well on a Gtx 1080 (around 100 fps @ 1080p) and i did not encounter any game breaking bugs.
    My Problem with it: There is zero reason to collect stuff and explore the map. The only two things interesting    Im giving it a 7 because i thing it is a good game, but with some problems.

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider is not a terrible game, but will never be a great one either. Greatness requires innovation, and this third installment in the series simply has very little of it.

    -Сюжет не то что бы хромает а ползёт на культях с мольбами о смерти через расстрел, очень запомнился момент когда Лару утаскивает потоком воды, в итоге она ныряет под воду а тааааам.... Тишь да гладь, мёртвые плавают, спокойненько так. А потом когда она выплывает из супермаркета с мертвецами опять буря, борьба за жизнь... Ну что за бред?
    Или можно сдыхать на одном месте раз по 20 потому что не понятно что же тут делать... То-ли кусты мешают, то-ли вообще не туда...

    -Составляющая тихого прохождения послана в пешое эротическое путешествие, Лара как Джон Рембо берёт автомат и пистолет, апгрэйдит их и идёт воевать, это же так круто. Удалил игру на моменте когда нашел (очередной храм) но тринити его уже взрывает. Можно плыть под водой, но нас подталкивают к тихому убийству чуваков, так вот эта шаболда в любой момент наровит ни просто высунуть голову из воды а сразу залезть к уматным мужикам пообщаться, они естественно стреляют.

    В общем механика жидкая, сюжет жидкий, движок жидкий, в общем моя оценка жижа.
    Ставлю ей 5 мертвый капибар из 10.

    Tombs, the people,said they are better but for me the tombs feels empty.
    The they destroyed lara. Lara is nothing more than a another character for another generic game

    But in Shadow the graphics actually are worse and the animations have far more flaws. For example if you use your pickaxes in rocks, it looked far better on the previous game. You could feel how the axes dug into the stone. Here    Its ok, I guess. I liked Rise of the Tomb Raider much more.     Also the textures have a much lower resolution on quite a few objects and the polycount is much lower as well.
    And then theres the horrible AA. SMAA x4 should look awesome, since its the best you can get in this game, but instead it makes the game look blurry and things further away from you have some kind of grid overlay, which makes the game really ugly. It also runs faster than the last one and uses far less VRAM, so I guess all these are "performance optimizations".

    The story is well made. I loved the part where you play her as a child. Really cute.
    But some parts overwhelm you, like when youre in a new village and try to find your way around and people to talk to and things to steal (yes, the poor village people dont care if you steal their belongings).
    Upgrading is kinda pointless with the DLCs, since you get fully upgraded weapons from the start and crafting doesnt have many options either. The last part was better in that.

    Stealth is well done this time. Its very enjoyable killing people like Rambo from a mud wall.

    Anyway, my main concern is that it actually got worse in a lot of things. Mainly the graphics. But also the controls are a little bit worse. Not very intuitive and thus you mess up more often than in the last game.

    Oh yeah and one last thing that really made me angry: You often see places where you could climb up easily or otherwise use paths that seem possible, but then the game wont let you. You need to use the predefined way, even though its not nearly as obvious as the one you saw. I kinda feel trolled in situations like that.    … Expand

    SOTTR focus mainly on exploration and the story. The story is elaborate, including the side quests. Some elements of it are a bit hard to believe but that's Tomb Raider for you. Nothing new there. The graphics are pretty good, especially the jungles, some tombs and crypts. The lighting is very well done. Not sure how they can fix this and keep the action. I also dislike the abundance of swearing from Lara (always the same too). That make her sound not very British and a bit dum. There are some bugs that seems to prevail on PC and Xbox releases. I give it a 68%. It is fun to play but somewhat tedious in some aspects.… Expand

    Positives, Game Play itself is alright, Combat fine, voice acting reasonable, Nice Graphics though I think Rise had better visuals

    As a long time Fan, I'm very disappointed in the direction this franchise has gone

    just go back to the style of Legend with updated Visuals Please and updated Physics you cant screew that up surely

    While the developers obviously tried improve upon the poor dialogue writing and the general narrative experience of the series, both of these aspects still feel almost as nuance free and unnatural as in the previous entries.     Unsurprisingly the gameplay and art design are solid enough to engage the player for a few hours, however they are ultimately rather generic as well and nowhere near strong enough to stand on their own.
    This feels even more like it's trying to be Uncharted than the previous entries in the reboot series, while still failing to understand or rather ignoring what makes the Uncharted franchise good.

    We are left with a game that is by no means outright bad, however I have a hard time recommending a game where every aspect is just ok. You might as well play any of the previous entries again and you wouldn't be missing out on much.    … Expand

    That said, the only reason I finished this game was to finish it.

    Very disappointing. Very little in the way of action, veeerrrry sloooow pacing. Lots of exploration if that's your thing, but for me this game is dragging in a way the first two did not. The game mainly takes place in a Mayan city (in Inca country :|), where you spend hours doing fetch quests for the villagers for no good reason I can see. Can't fight anyone, can't even draw weapon. Sadly, as you get further into the game the rails become even more constricting. The side quests do become less trivial, but they do not become less tedious.

    The climbing/stunt mechanics are the same as the first two games, but somewhat over-elaborated. The current iteration is over reliant on gadgets such as a magic ice pick that deploys a cable to enable you to 'rappel' down cliff faces, then apparently psionically detatches itself, coils it's own line and turns back into a normal ice pick. Oh it also shoots out said magic line to hook on things while you are in mid-air to enable you to swing around.

    This handy utensil is used by Lara in the service of a plot line that's been recycled from the last game (Rise of the Tomb Raider) and is showing it's wear.

    Apocalypse only Lara can prevent? Check
    Trinity? Check
    HIdden city full of that somehow survived unnoticed for God knows how long? Check

    The first Tomb Raider was a bit on the shooty side but this one seems like the early episodes of ST:TNG- lots of evil doers around but somehow nobody ever uses violence to solve things. The developers are lucky they disabled weapons or I would have ended their game about a third of the way in when the major villain passes by about fifteen feet in front of Lara in said Mayan city. The few encounters with Trinity forces in which Lara is in combat are in a way the most disappointing parts of the whole game. Obvious stealth rails are obvious. In the first iteration, the action came at you relentlessly and you really felt some tension. In this game, with one partial exception, you plow through the poor schmoos with little difficulty, unless you do something superlatively stupid. The partial exception was in an oil refinery. That part was exciting and had some kick to it. The rest of the game left me flat and disappointed.

    The rails are really apparent and they take all the fun out of the game. I don't necessarily have to fight my way into Himiko's castle to have fun, but finding some rando Mayan kid's dice is something I can do with.out.

    There's actually the bones of a good story and a good game in here, but unfortunately the execution is not adequate to pull it off. Scenes that are intended to be discussions of morality and philosophy are shallow and without real affect. Flashbacks to Lara's childhood, intended to outline her growth, are not engaging. I did not have any real interest in either, which is too bad, because that's what this game was supposed to be strong in.

    In the end, it's a button masher with cutscenes. That's a real pity, because the first two outings were more than that.

    One of the commenters to my initial review seemed to think more puzzles and less shooting made this game more like the original Tomb Raider. If that's the case, I'll take the 2013 Lara any day of the week.

    Tomb Raider was personal because it was personal. But now it’s come full circle to yet another vapid videogame character muddling through bad writing, rote familiar gameplay, and fewer features than the last time. Wake me when the next reboot is here.
