Aug 22, 2022A mix of wholesome friendship, murder and mayhem like no other, Saints Row is a riotous blast that entertains for hours on end.

Aug 22, 2022Saints Row is a quite cool game, throwing players into a sandbox while giving you cars and guns to start messing around. There is only pure fun here, perfect for passing the time, looking for some depth of play and plot? Sorry, wrong game. Although this reboot removed the superpowers, it seems to want to take the game back to before it was confused by the demons of hell, the Matrix, aliens, and much other chaos. But when people find that these saints do not rely on superpowers to make trouble, and start to beat people with fists and iron bars, will they find them not interesting enough again?

Aug 22, 2022Saints Row is not really what we can call a total reboot of the saga, but rather a soft-reboot: it is very similar to Saints Row The Third which, even if appreciated, is nonetheless ten years old. In fact, this is felt and this new adventure is still struggling to impose itself through its technique, its gameplay or its creativity which remain anchored in a certain immobility despite some novelties: it is however a game of effective action that never takes itself seriously, rather funny and with damn generous content, which we can never blame him for. Volition finally delivers Saints Row 3 with far-west sauce, which remains appreciable without breaking three pieces of dough for a gunslinger.

Aug 22, 2022The Saints Row (2022) reboot takes things back to basics but with very little push for innovation. It still gets a lot right, but that success is in areas where it was already strong, and little effort has been invested in strengthening the weaker aspects. A reboot should offer a chance at a clean slate, at cutting ties with what held you back in the past, but Saints Row (2022) fails to do this in any meaningful way.

Aug 22, 2022Saints Row reins in the absurdity to a fairly significant degree but still manages to indulge in some of the chaotic action and silly hijinks the series is known for. Its story is simple and fairly predictable, yet spending time with its diverse and well-rounded characters makes it worth seeing through to the end. It's a shame the gameplay isn't quite as progressive, opting instead for out-of-date mechanics and level design. Combat is decent, and the story missions are enjoyable when at their most over-the-top, but there's too much bland filler in between. Rebooting the series made sense, yet in many ways, Saints Row is still stuck in the past and struggling to live up to its legacy.

Nov 2, 2023There’s a weight of history behind Saints Row, and no matter whether you’re comparing it to the more serious early games or the sillier later ones, it’s pretty clear that the Saints Row reboot doesn’t live up to any of them.
-
Aug 26, 2022Volition miscalculated. They interpreted that ridding Saints Row of its over-the-top nature, leaving behind only the series' essence was the right way to get to a triumphant new beginning. But in a post-GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 world, they found out that Saints Row's essence, without its excesses, simply doesn't cut it anymore.
