A mix of wholesome friendship, murder and mayhem like no other, Saints Row is a riotous blast that entertains for hours on end.

Saints Row proved to be a worthy reboot of the saga, capable of looking back to draw heavily on the soul of the franchise, but also of looking forward to the future of the series, creating a perfect starting point for everything that, potentially, will come. Volition has given its best both on the content and on the technical front, and the result is an open world that has nothing, or almost nothing, to envy to the competition.

Saints Row is an ambitious reboot of a popular franchise. Its open world is expansive and entertaining to explore. There is always something to keep you occupied, most of it served up in bite-sized missions that are fun to check off. The game rewards you for almost everything, so your time is never wasted. Unfortunately, the main campaign is a little less successful, often falling back on repetitive action, gunplay and set pieces that go on too long. Despite some tech issues and inconsistent mission design, this kinder, gentler incarnation of Saints Row is probably a step in the right direction.

Saints Row is a quite cool game, throwing players into a sandbox while giving you cars and guns to start messing around. There is only pure fun here, perfect for passing the time, looking for some depth of play and plot? Sorry, wrong game. Although this reboot removed the superpowers, it seems to want to take the game back to before it was confused by the demons of hell, the Matrix, aliens, and much other chaos. But when people find that these saints do not rely on superpowers to make trouble, and start to beat people with fists and iron bars, will they find them not interesting enough again?

Anyone who was a fan of the franchise before this will likely still love Saints Row, as the comedy, goofiness, and chaotic gameplay is still at the game's core. And while I wasn't a fan of how they went about the story, there's definitely some promise in regards to its more grounded focus, as it seems clear this reboot was made to push the series into an interesting new direction.

Am I having a blast with Saints Row? Yes! Would I unreservedly recommend it to all action fans? Rather not. Because there are too many little things that just aren't for everyone.

Saints Row is not really what we can call a total reboot of the saga, but rather a soft-reboot: it is very similar to Saints Row The Third which, even if appreciated, is nonetheless ten years old. In fact, this is felt and this new adventure is still struggling to impose itself through its technique, its gameplay or its creativity which remain anchored in a certain immobility despite some novelties: it is however a game of effective action that never takes itself seriously, rather funny and with damn generous content, which we can never blame him for. Volition finally delivers Saints Row 3 with far-west sauce, which remains appreciable without breaking three pieces of dough for a gunslinger.

Saints Row returns with an unambitious, but certainly fun reboot. The claims are few and the results reflect this aspect. It does not stand out in any aspect, but it could satisfy the hunger for free roaming for those players who still enjoy playing GTA back twenty years.

Saints Row is an experience with peculiar contrasts Volition truly tried to reinvent the franchise for a new generation, but not wanting to betray its roots it was unable to evolve in the way it needed to be truly relevant in the midst of 2022...It is an entertaining and fun experience that many will have a good time with, of that we have no doubt. However, it has clear flaws and antiquated systems, so it will probably be remembered without much shame or glory.

Somewhere between GTA and Just Cause, Saints Row doesn't manage to match the gameplay of these two titles, and its particular humor doesn't hit the mark often enough to compensate. The realization also leaves something to be desired, with sometimes poor graphics, fights that are as superficial as they are imprecise, and exploration that gives the impression of floating in the scenery as soon as you want to climb somewhere. Fortunately, the driving and car chases compensate, especially in co-op. Saints Row still allows you to spend some good moments indulging in absurd activities, with some funny situations.

Sometimes repetitive, sometimes eye-rolling, and sometimes just plain busted, Saints Row 2022 is far from perfect, but that doesn't stop it from being a chaotic good time.

Saints Row offers a decent reboot of the franchise, although the production costs don't go up to the level of GTA. The focus on fun, action and variety of activities is strong. The co-op helps the fun even more.

Every time Saints Row does something that reminds me how much I love the series, it follows it up with an issue that makes me frustrated with it. As much as I enjoy the gameplay and getting lost in Santo Ileso, the structural problems, both in open world game design and under the hood, make this a tough one to stick with. There are highlights, like losing track of time in how much fun a Saints Row game can be, but it’s lost under a pile of bugs and glitches.

The Saints Row (2022) reboot takes things back to basics but with very little push for innovation. It still gets a lot right, but that success is in areas where it was already strong, and little effort has been invested in strengthening the weaker aspects. A reboot should offer a chance at a clean slate, at cutting ties with what held you back in the past, but Saints Row (2022) fails to do this in any meaningful way.

It's the Saints Row game with best driving mechanics, but it's not the best Saints Row game in general. I wish it were the other way around.

The knockabout glee of classic Saints Row ultraviolence is here, but held back a little by new-found restraint.

Saints Row reins in the absurdity to a fairly significant degree but still manages to indulge in some of the chaotic action and silly hijinks the series is known for. Its story is simple and fairly predictable, yet spending time with its diverse and well-rounded characters makes it worth seeing through to the end. It's a shame the gameplay isn't quite as progressive, opting instead for out-of-date mechanics and level design. Combat is decent, and the story missions are enjoyable when at their most over-the-top, but there's too much bland filler in between. Rebooting the series made sense, yet in many ways, Saints Row is still stuck in the past and struggling to live up to its legacy.

Saints Row delivers no shortage of shallow shoot 'em up thrills, but it's a very familiar and uninspired brand of sandbox fun.

A newcomer would be shocked by crude animations, wonky physics and bad gunplay. Fans of the franchise are kinda used to that, but they’ll be disappointed for another reason: while Saints Row 2022 does have a few fun moments, most of them are blatantly ripped from previous games of the series. There’s a weight of history behind Saints Row, and no matter whether you’re comparing it to the more serious early games or the sillier later ones, it’s pretty clear that the Saints Row reboot doesn’t live up to any of them.

That’s not to say Saints Row doesn’t have redeeming qualities, but its memorable moments are so few and far between. It delivers what is expected from a typical action sandbox game, but only at the bare minimum. Most of what Saints Row has to offer has already been done better elsewhere. If you’re looking for an open-world game with silly fun and over-the-top action, then maybe it's worth taking a trip to Santo Ileso. Unfortunately for most, this reboot struggles to provide anything unique that makes it stand out from the crowd of similar games.

The 2022 reboot of Saints Row manages to put together a decently engaging crew, but just about everything else is a litany of issues - from shallow and repetitive missions to unsatisfying action mechanics, poor presentation, and plenty of bugs.
  23. There is no shortage of enjoyable things to do in Saints Row, but doing them means putting up with a severe lack of polish. As it currently stands, Saints Row is barely playable. It’s good, mindless fun, but I cannot recommend it in good faith. I offer a little prayer that a day one patch can address some of these concerns, and that the studio has a long-term plan to salvage this promising title.

Unfortunately Volitions new Saints Row offers nothing more than a completely middle-of-the-road action game that is occasionally fun.

A totally unnecessary reboot. Not to say the game isn't fun. It is. Again, it's pure escapism that exists just so you can fool around with a bunch of weapons and vehicles and not have to think about it. The problem is that previous installments have done the same thing - and infinitely better. [Issue#322]

The new Saints’ big ideas boil down to Instagram influencer nonsense but with a drop of extra murder involved, punctuated by reams of dialogue that feel like an experimental A.I. at Meta trying to imitate a 20-year-old.

Volition miscalculated. They interpreted that ridding Saints Row of its over-the-top nature, leaving behind only the series' essence was the right way to get to a triumphant new beginning. But in a post-GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 world, they found out that Saints Row's essence, without its excesses, simply doesn't cut it anymore.

It's rare that I go to this much trouble to dissuade people from buying a video game. I can be nitpicky or critical about perfectly solid games for one reason or another, but I know tastes can vary, so I try to make room for my experiences not necessarily reflecting other players'. But Saints Row is such a mess in its current state that I would only recommend it to Twitch streamers who make a living out of riling up their chat feeds. That's all this is: the 2022 video game equivalent of The Room or Showgirls, a spectacle to be experienced with a group... and not for the reasons its creators intended. [Avoid]

Regrettably, Saints Row does suffer from annoying bugs, glitches, and crashes. In fact, I had to restart the game as soon as I created my character when the menu stopped being functional. There were also some moments when getting inside a vehicle would place the camera inside the textures. Moreover, there were a handful of missions that led to crashes — in a couple of instances, I even had to restart my PC. There was no other recourse but to restart the mission from scratch instead of the checkpoint. Will the frustrations continue to mount? We’ll see. For now, I’ll continue to play more to see the campaign through to its conclusion.

If you enjoyed previous Saints Row games, you will probably like this one, and if you’ve never played one, this is a decent onboarding point. If you were a fan of Saints Row 2 but found the later entries in the series to be a little too aggressively bonkers, you should give the new Saints Row a try. It’s still got that comedic series edge, but it doesn’t break the knob off.
  4. It's not exactly Saints Row, but it's not exactly its own thing either. It just is, and the lack of creative purpose makes me think it exists almost exclusively for balance sheet reasons, which isn't a nice conclusion to come to. I wish we lived in a world where the people who made the pun food trucks and the big, weird city and conceived the interesting duality of the Idols gang (and their cool helmets) were given a large pot of money and several years to make whatever game they wanted, no strings attached, no legacy series hanging over them. But that's not the world we live in.

They literally took everything that made Saints Row 1-4 fun and tossed it out. What is left is a low quality rip-off of GTA, MINUS the fun.
Graphics are a good 10 years behind, quests are repetitive and tedious, and the bugs! Think Cyberpunk 2077 launch bug fest!
Worst offender are the characters. Gone are the beloved characters such as Gat or Shaundi, replaced by absolute trash characters that I just want to kill off and not coop with. Their goal: to pay off student loan. And bash capitalism. Really? That's the best they could come up with??? They are the diversity hires of the gaming world and just absolute cringe. Coupled with totally abysmal writing this is a recipe for disaster making you yell at the characters to just STFU! Unfortunately you can't shoot them ( I tried).
Then there's the visuals: atrocious! When you go out of town into the desert you could mistake the game for Rage 2 - it looks almost the same from the washed out desert graphics to the pink arrows on the road telling you where to go next.
Dumbed down gameplay (auto-aim), a bland, empty, boring open world.
This piece of absolute garbage has NO REDEEMING features. Not one. This is a turd of a game.
