Is Planes, Bullets and Vodka a great tribute to legendary shoot ‘em up games from the 80’s that reasonably adds some modern features to the old gameplay? There are some indisputable pros like bringing the feeling of playing a good old shoot ‘em up, solid power-ups, online leaderboard, challenging difficulty, responsive controls and atmospheric soundtrack. However, there are many cons preventing this game from being better - absence of any story, no unlocks of new airplanes and weapons, no RPG elements enriching the gameplay, early stereotype and very simple graphics that is worse than in the games from the 80’s. Thanks to its easy accessibility and suitability to be played in short sessions it would be suitable for family playing but there is no local multiplayer that would save the game from becoming repetitive soon.
Pros:
- feeling of playing good old shoot ‘em up
- power-ups
- online leaderboard
- challenging difficulty
- controls
- soundtrack
Cons:
- no story
- no new airplanes or weapons
- absence of RPG elements
- early stereotype
- graphics
- no local multiplayer
