The combat system rewards skill above all. Dodging, blocking, asking party members for assistance, using special skills, switching weapons during battle, all lend to making combat feel fun and varied.

I could write a hell of a lot more, but then we'd enter more spoiler territory. Suffice to say that this game is worth your time. It's quality. It runs well, it's a good port with mouse and keyboard support, it's got a large selection of graphics options, it's got japanese and english voices as you prefer, and above all it just feels like a polished game. Well done Level-5!

The sounds were pretty good too, but there isn't voice over on everything. So you will need to read. The music is maybe the aspect that was more average but you can adjust it in the menu. The story seemed simple but it gets more layers has you go. And the ending was very nice and imaginative. Things that weren't perfect: using the boat was short live; the running speed seem very slow at time; many small quest were very similar; the army fights weren't very well balanced...I did many side quests and turn around 48 hours, and I know there were things I didn't find or done. I give it a 90% because it made me remember so much of Dark Clouds and it was executed with a lot of flair and brilliance. Bravo. Expand

I love the graphics even more now that I was able to play it on the PC! the environment is just so gorgeous.

Music was still the same it's good and all but almost all of them has the same BGM.

I also didn't give this a perfect score because it's incomplete.

It's boring and no fun. It also means all those different weapons and armor you find are less fun too.

It's a shame and feels like a missed opportunity...would have been so much fun to try the different weapons and abilities against the different monsters in a turn based game.

Is it worth playing? Yes. Very much so; I give it an 8. It's still fun because of the visuals and sound.
But it would have been a 10 with good turn based combat. As it is a lot of the variety of weapons and armors and spells is just completely wasted; you barely notice the differences in combat.

this game takes place many years into the future after the first ni no kuni, so playing the first game isn’t necessary to play this one. .however I would recommend you play that one instead..
This is an action jrpg that telsl the story of evan who sets out to start his own kingdom and unite all the nations of the world.
The story this time around is much less personal.. its vewry politics heavy.. hes just a child that wants to make the world a better place. .a lot of cgrowing and learning to hopefully become a great leader of this land and because of this less personal tale, I had less interest in how the game played out overall…
The first game had a slow but beautiful build up and introduction to its characters, this time around everything is sped up, youre told your motives in passing, everything happens so fast, and I just found myself not caring.
So no good story, were off to a bad start..
Thankfully the gameplay and rpg ellements of this game keep you hooked for this games roughly 30 hour campaign..
unfortunately also changed is the pokemon aspect.. youre no longer collecting monsters, instead theres an action rpg twist, when youre roaming the open lands youre in chibby form and youre pulled into a little arena to battle, and hwen youre in tighter spaced evrythiong is pulled in and its much more westernized where you hop right into battle and go, the combat system is much more simpler this time around, magic is rewarded quickly and spent with the hold of a trigger and the press of an action button, leaving combat to be fast and fluent requiring little strategy…
however the strategy of the first game is what made me fall in love with it aside from the pokemon character collecting aspects..
here not much thinking is required… hack and slash your way through battles..
things are so easy that I found boss battles to be easer than regular random encounters…
I still had fun with all of this though, opening chests and picking up loot, throwing loot on my part members which like the first game can be swapped through during battle at anytime, and you can bring up to 3 members into combat, gaining new party members as you get deeper into the story..
There are also thewse little higgledy characters you can collect by trading them items that will join you to aid oyu in battle with elemental damage or healing you.
the good of this game ends thers, in it combat..
the rest it just sets out to take away all of the heart and charm this series had…
theres and insane lack of cutscnes and voice acting here.. giving you more reason to not care whats going on.. theres a little siege battle mini game that adds absolutely nothing to the game, and the worst addition the kingdom management that sets out to turn this giant jrpg into a mobile game, if jrpgs weren’t long enough, you now have to wait hours in real time for your kingdom to collect currency for you to build stations and set out residence to do research so you can craft the best gear…
you aren’t bothered with amanging this kingdom, but there are definitely speedbumps that stop story progression until you build your kingom up to a certain point…
so youre forced to go out and do sidequests to recruit new citizens for your kingdom
it feels like a giant time waster, I don’t necessarily hate that it’s a thing.. you are a little adorable king after all.. but I hate that its forced on you at times and runs on a free to play mobile game timer nonsense, I didn’t find the kingdom to be necessary at all as the combat is so easy here…
but I do like the new fast travel options making this forced sidequest bit not too much of hassle..
and I did love the design of this world its towns and its bosses…
If theres one thing this series does right its world building…
im disappointed that this isn’t more of what the first game was…
but this is still a solid game..
sure youll have to bite down and pull yourself through the mobile garbage, and skim theough the boring generic feeling story…
but in between these bits is a great and addictive jrpg set in a world that feels connected and real.
I give Ni No Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom
    a 7.5/10

The overworld is kind of weird. but the art is so great that I don't even mind that there was no custom made animations, since using the character models for cutscenes actually was fine since the art is great. OST is quite unique, in that it uses only orchestra music to make them, and it is a hit or miss. For me, the majority of the OST is quite nice and a refreshing twist to the normal JRPG OSTs.
Gameplay 5/10 - Now the majority of the actual gameplay. is fine, with the tactic tweaker, dodging mechanics, and your higilidies and the sorts. However, the kingdom building is only used to further the plot and is 100% useless, and also absolutely boring. The army fights are similarly you walking through the enemies and hoping your army levels are high enough. Recruiting citizens in particular is very very long, and a boring process that has to be done to further plot. These useless time wasters ultimately brings the gameplay from a "decent" to a "pretty bad" rating to me
Character 6/10- Nothing to be said about the characters. Pretty basic, but also not too stupid main cast. Story clearly invests a lot of time into developing the main character into a more mature ruler for his kingdom.
Enjoyment 7/10 - Even with some flaws, it was pretty enjoyable
Overall 7/10 - For JRPG, the expectations were set, and although not a masterpiece, still a fine game. That said, if you are looking for something amazing, look elsewhere

Most surprisingly is perhaps the graphics, though naturally techincally better (though not by much), are also much worse than the original. Copy-paste layouts of environments and enemies and even the music is to a large degree re-used from the first game. Combine that with the lack of voice acting and it's clear this game was not given much TLC, or budget, by Level-5. Because of sunk cost fallacy (the time I spent playing this game, though 80% of it was leaving my computer on over night, and the ridiculous amount of money I splashed out thinking it would be as good as the first one). NI NO KUNI II: REVENANT KINGDOM is the wackiness and inanity of the Japanese in full swing. - Games tries to do too many things and makes the entire game shallow
    - Shameless copying of sounds from Zelda Breath of the Wild
    - Turn based is still better. Might've been good to see X-Com style combat instead of the poorly executed warfare combat.

Ni No Kuni II is all that fans wanted after the first game. Despite the lower difficulty, the game can absorb and offer a magical and welcoming experience of the Japanese RPG genre. [Issue#285]

Ni No Kuni II is truly a tale, deliberately naïve and full of colorful characters. The combination of different genres, JRPG, management and RTS, works well, as each style is interwoven with the others.
  3. With the successful fighting system and the dynamics of the story, Ni Ko Kuni II is once again the challenging JRPG we miss.
