An absolute joy, like a whippy ice-cream on a hot summer’s day, it’s sweet and fun and you will want more.

How can you make something different from amazing, but still just as amazing? I have no idea, but Ni No Kuni II managed to do just that. A few minor flaws can't touch the grand pattern, made up of a great story, beautiful visuals, fun mechanics and memorable characters. Ni No Kuni II is still just that - amazing. Do not miss it.

Ni no Kuni II breaks down many traditional mechanics to become more contemporary, accessible and diverse.

Without Evermore, Ni No Kuni 2 would have been good. Because of it, it's one of the best JRPGs on PC.

There’s not a wasted breath or a plot point that doesn’t manage to pay off in a significant way. Ni no Kuni 2 is a solid contemporary JRPG that brings a lot of design ideas that I love into sharp, clear focus while staying entertaining and engaging throughout.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom may be vastly different, but it’s ruddy marvellous! Its many systems sure are intimidating at first, but things click into place very quickly, and there’s a lot to do in this gorgeous and well-crafted game. They say that it’s difficult to recapture the magic, but this is one more Level-5 game that has become essential. They may have moved on from Studio Ghibli’s tutelage, but the lessons learned have resulted in a phenomenally good JRPG.

Not free of flaws, but nevertheless a true RPG highlight.

Enchanting and motivating JRPG with a varied genre mix and a inspiring fantasy world.

Even for players that are new to not only this series, but to JRPGs as a whole, Revenant Kingdom has something to draw you in and get you hooked. The world, the story, the combat, the base building, something here will grab you and keep you. There is plenty of content to dig into, and you will not find yourself bored for quite a while with all that Level-5 has given you.

Ni No Kuni II is all that fans wanted after the first game. Despite the lower difficulty, the game can absorb and offer a magical and welcoming experience of the Japanese RPG genre. [Issue#285]

Ni No Kuni II is truly a tale, deliberately naïve and full of colorful characters. The combination of different genres, JRPG, management and RTS, works well, as each style is interwoven with the others.
  13. With the successful fighting system and the dynamics of the story, Ni Ko Kuni II is once again the challenging JRPG we miss.

Ni No Kuni II tells a nice fairy tale with an iconic Ghibli art style. But the combat system is not good enough, and the design of side quests need some second thoughts.

Grow your kingdom and unite the world in peace in Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, an ambitious JRPG title that offers a visually astounding treat alongside (mostly) on-point gameplay.

Ni No Kuni II does not innovate, showing no remarkable mood to deviate from its safe zone, but this is also its charm. Allied by very beautiful visuals and an incredible soundtrack, Revenant Kingdom is highly recommended to traditional JRPG enthusiasts who know exactly what to expect from a game of its kind.

On the whole, Ni no Kuni II is a beautiful and well-made game that manages to make its combination of action-RPG and city-building seem natural. Despite some initial intimations of darkness, its tone is light-hearted and upbeat and its core combat is very satisfying throughout.

Ni No Kuni 2 is a robust game that offers ample ways to spend your time, and even if they aren't all up to the same level of quality, it's easy to appreciate how they collectively contribute to the bigger picture. It's chock full of excellent battles and surprising moments that make for a far more memorable experience than you initially expect and leaves you impressed by your own accomplishments. If you didn't play the first game, don't let this one pass you by too.

Ni no Kuni 2's gorgeous worlds and lovable characters make for an enjoyable and engaging experience from start to finish, and its story, while not the most original or expansive, will undoubtedly warm your heart and leave you wanting more.

For the first few hours, Ni No Kuni 2 looks like an ordinary JRPG: it’s very linear, story-centric and rather naive. But as soon as our protagonist gets his new kingdom, it shows its true colors – those of an unholy crossbreed between an Asian grind fest MMORPG and a mobile “strategy” game that’s all about making players wait. As for how it compares to its predecessor, there's really no better summary than Roland's response to Evan when asked to describe his home: "I guess it's ahead of this world in some ways, and behind in others." [May 2018, p.104]

Revenant Kingdom is one of those games that suffers for being a sequel to something that was a bit special. It's a good oddball JRPG. But Wrath of the White Witch had great storytelling, compelling characters, and epic boss fights. Revenant Kingdom just feels... smaller.

Ni no Kuni II is a very good role-playing game, one full of satisfying mechanics and fun battles. It’s also got quotes like that. Even for a fairy tale, this game is naive to the point of parody. Every challenge in the game can be overcome with sheer willpower. Every villain can be convinced to see the light. Everybody wants to serve Evan the boy-king, and all of his decisions are good and pure. But the game is just so charming, so fun, and so delightful to play, that it’s easy to get over that. It’s easy to get sucked in.
  2. Almost anybody can mine out 40 or 50 hours-worth of honest enjoyment from the quest to build Evermore, and I certainly encourage genre fans to take the plunge. Just don’t be surprised if it fails to make much of a lasting impression, like a sandcastle going out with the tide.

Beautiful visuals, great music, memorable characters, and a fun, innocent story about a boy who wants to build a kingdom where everybody canBeautiful visuals, great music, memorable characters, and a fun, innocent story about a boy who wants to build a kingdom where everybody can live happily ever after.

Gameplay takes on a varied form, from walking around on a world map and doing real-time battles, to taking command of small armies fighting off invaders, to building up a kingdom by building structures and interacting with them.

The combat system rewards skill above all. Dodging, blocking, asking party members for assistance, using special skills, switching weapons during battle, all lend to making combat feel fun and varied.

I could write a hell of a lot more, but then we'd enter more spoiler territory. Suffice to say that this game is worth your time. It's quality. It runs well, it's a good port with mouse and keyboard support, it's got a large selection of graphics options, it's got japanese and english voices as you prefer, and above all it just feels like a polished game. Well done Level-5!
