Muse Dash is what you would describe as “crazy fun”, as it is the type of game you can pretty much play anytime in any state of mind. You can try it when you’re sad so it can cheer you up, or you can try it when you’re happy so you can get even happier. Although the game may not be resource-intensive at all and some may wonder what justified a PC release, you’ll be forgetting all about that just a few songs later. All in all, if you love good music, are quick with your fingers and are a fan of cutesy anime visuals, then Muse Dash is definitely something that will keep you busy for a long, long time.

When Muse Dash works well, I felt the same sort of accomplishment as I might when nailing a fighting game combo. However, I don’t fall into the target demographic and the grind-heavy progression turned things more tedious than necessary. There’s a solid base of something great here, but it would be an easier recommendation if it offered some content for those outside its niche.

Muse Dash has solid rhythm mechanics buried beneath a serious grind. Those that don’t mind a bit of repetition will enjoy their time, but get ready to pay your dues if you’re looking to see everything.

Separate creator from creation for once. (note, this review is specifically for the Steam version of the game as opposed to the mobile and Switch versions)

All that being said, Muse Dash is a rather solid rhythm game! Simple controls leave a lot of room for growth and challenge (and this game can be extremely challenging when it wants to be), the visual aesthetic is pretty good (waifus galore if you like that sort of thing), and, most importantly of all, the core gameplay loop is extremely enjoyable! It's an extremely fun rhythm game at its core, with a simple yet addicting loop that can easily leave you saying "Just one more song."

That being said, the game isn't flawless. The gameplay loop, while fun, has a pretty painful grind to unlock new characters that can easily drag the experience down if the gameplay doesn't hook you. And on Steam (which I would argue is the best way to play the game, since keyboard is an easier control scheme than tapping, especially considering how spammy some charts can get), the game has the strangest DLC model I've ever seen. Rather than being able to buy individual song packs (like most rhythm games, hell even in the mobile version of Muse Dash this is an option), you have to shell out 30 dollars for all of the DLC packs. Now, while this is a nice option, and it does give you a ton more content, what makes it strange is that it's the ONLY option to get DLC in this game. If you could get the whole game for 30 dollars or buy individual packs, I wouldn't raise so much of a stink. But you can't. It's all or nothing, and that doesn't seem very consumer-friendly to me. Overall though, those complaints aren't really enough to knock the game out of the green for me. Still a really fun game, though it does have its issues.

With cool songs, colorful characters and cute stages. The scenarios design may be some repetitive, but it's a minor detail. A great and amusing casual game.
The only biggest problem in this game, is the disgustingly expensive DLC regarding the price of the game.

Typical mobile-style cash grab with over simplistic controls. Not even the waifus can save this one.
