Great Game. Fast Game. Great Fun. Took me 6 to 7 hours to finish the main story only. Did not care about achievments or side-quests as well. I have not played the previous game.

If you care about lore, this is a nice game once you get used to the characters. There are flaws on main character build-up and secondary characters as well. Some plots should have been more intense to the game.

Gameplay in general is very pleasing. Played on xbox one controller the whole main story and it was a good experience. Game has some traps for first timers and it is fun to learn how to avoid them.

Combat is actually not good. Once you learn spamming dashes and heavy attacking enemies to the side and jumping and heavy attacking is your way to go, there are no more challenges.

Skill tree is intuitive and you can always chose to improve your play style from only parkour to full-combat style.

Played in 2021. This is a parkour simulator, a remake of the original Mirror's Edge. A great relaxing running game.

Now, this remake has questionable changes:
    1. Now you have a skill tree (instead of having everything from the get-go.
    2. Now you cannot pick up weapons. Fighting is boring, so weapons made it bit easier, however it is understandable why shooting mechanics was removed from the parkour simulator.
    3. More plot and cut scenes. And more cheap drama. Not terrible, but cheap.

Still, a great relaxing running game.

It is very sad that this game did not become popular. I would love to play the sequel. I really liked the main character. And the gameplay is pretty enjoyable for me. It's a pity, however, that the storyline is short.

The overall user score for this game is really unfair. As a fan of first Mirror's Edge I find this one really great. Maybe there are too many side, stupid missions & there should be no fighting in this game at all but overall atmosphere and experience is fine.

This game is visually stunning and the city is very beautiful. Without the Solar Field's amazing soundtrack this game would not be the same.
It was not exactly open world as DICE promised, but it gives more freedom and offers non-linear gameplay, compared to first Mirror's Edge. It would be cool if I can walk in the streets and interact with NPCs though.
Many people did not like the story, but who plays Mirror's Edge games for story lmao. Mirror's Edge is all about gameplay, and it does its job very well.
Dear DICE and EA, I have faith for Mirror's Edge 3. Don't ruin it.

You are just a runner girl. In original, you are really more encouraged to run, not to mess up with everyone, especially in hard difficulty mode. You have low chances surviving more than 1 armed enemy at a time. And you have no chances eliminating trained acrobats from "Icarus" with bare hands. And this is right, because you are just a runner girl.
But here... you are basically a superhero, who has no problem beating up whole squads of enemies.
Also you have some cool magnetic hook. Why would you have needed all these jumps and wall-runs, if you could simply cling to anything with it and pull yourself up?
These things are fun though, but they're somewhat ruining the anti-utopia.
And also the fact that the plot is not linked to original game is a sad to me. I'd more like it be a sequel or prequel

The graphics are gorgeous and the game ran smoothly. The game is quite forgiving if you fall and the load times aren't that bad, which encourages exploration and makes some of the trial-and-error parts not too painful.

Cons: I wish the city was a little more populated, and the NPC AIs are a bit unrealistic and lifeless. There was too much back tracking at first, but later on you can skip around to different bases.

Boy, i do hope there's another sequel. Maybe in another 8 years?

I don't understand how this game is rated so poorly. I've been a fan of the first Mirror's Edge for a long time. Knowing this, I'm still okay with the changes made to the story. Ignoring the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia I would've had with more references to the original, I feel this game's story and world were far more grande and beautiful than the original. Ignoring the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia I would've had with more references to the original, I feel this game's story and world were far more grande and beautiful than the original. This game was incredible in so many ways. The atmosphere of this game is reason enough to love it, but the story kept me playing as well. The game-play took what was so great about the original Mirror's Edge and expanded upon it. The free running is so much more flowy (I suppose that's the best way I can describe it). Although I could care less about the mindless side-quests and collectables (which are not forced on you), having this game be open world was a great decision. Exploring the breathtaking atmosphere of the city of Glass kept me playing for hours. It certainly has its flaws, but given my experience with the game, they're hard to come by. Although this may just be my biased love for this game. Not to mention, it's a single player EA game that came out in 2016 with no micro-transactions. How did that happen? Perhaps the negative reviews mean this game just isn't for everyone. Maybe its flaws are more obvious to others that I just don't see. Regardless, I feel this game needs to live on. It's surely worth experiencing. I bought this game back when it came out in 2016, and returning to it now, it still feels as beautiful as when I first played it. Dice knocked it out of the park with this one. Expand

The story could be stronger and is the only reason i give this game a 9 instead of a 10, they could have gone more in-depth with the characters and explored some open-ended story-lines but for what it is and combined with the rest of this amazing game it does well enough. Plus it leaves plenty for a sequel to explore.
The combat is very fun although too easy and could have more variety.
The music is very good and fits the game well.

The point here is that i don't understand peoples hate for this game, as for me going back and playing the first game feels horrible compared to this one. It's a shame people don't see how amazing this game truly is because i would love to see a sequel.

Nobody released a completely finished game anymore (certainly not EA), so now it's either they release patches for it or they leave it altogther. Suprisingly, EA and DICE has not abandoned it (especially that they were working on Battlefield 1 around Catalyst's release), as I have not encountered any gamebreaking glitch.

So, is the game good? Yes. Is it better than the original? Yes and no. Gameplay-wise, they fixed everything. The combat is so much better. Remember how awkward it was to use guns from the last game? Well, they removed the use of guns altogether, which is a love-it-or-hate-it point. And while the open-world is at best mildly-interesting, it does give you lots of freedom, unlike the last game, which was all about moving from point A to point B.

The negatives? Well, the story is longer, but still not very good. It has quite an anti-capitalist stance, which is ironic because the stuff you see here are more likely to happen in a socialist society than a capitalist one. And this is published by EA, which clearly likes to take advantage of capitalism. Also, this was marketed as a prequel, but it's more of a reboot. Even the storyline was somewhat similar. Also, the sci-fi setting shows that this time period is more technologically advanced than the previous game (which is said to be in a later time period). So how the heck did they get from using unmanned drones and lasers to Blackhawk choppers and MP5s? Is this a prequel or reboot? These problems prevented it from getting a 9 (and even a 10).

And the theme song is "Warning Call" by CHVRCHES. It fits the game, just as how "Still Alive" (not the Portal one) fits the last game.

Technical-wise, it plays great on Medium on my GTX 960M.

If you have left the game or held off buying it, I suggest you play it now. It's not worth full price (really, is there any game besides MGSV worth $60 nowadays?), but it's fun, which is what games are all about.

Catalyst is a triumph of form over substance. At first the city looks huge, shiny and perfect but soon turns out to be just a lifeless, empty mockup, where you distinguish the districts mainly by background colors. The character development system feels artificial and redundant. The story and characters are so shallow and badly presented that I quickly lost any interest in them and focused on what the game does quite well – on parkour. [08/2016, p.60]
