Minecraft is such a really fun game. I've been playing it since I was around 5-6. Sure, there was a downfall around 2015-2019 but people do not realize how much fun there is in the game. It really brings so much nostalgia to me. Thank you Mojang for creating this game.

Minecraft... A legendary game that cannot be forgotten. A game that can be played more or less endlessly. A legendary game that cannot be forgotten. A game that can be played more or less endlessly. Although the game has an ending in the form of killing Ender Dragon, so nothing prevents you from playing the game further. Minecraft is magical especially with its world that somehow has no boundaries. You can customize it at will, and that's what makes the game so special. As they say imagination has no limits and here you can make a lot of all kinds of buildings. From small houses to phenomenal castles. That was just an example. The choice is yours. The game offers several modes and these are Survival, Hardcore and Creative. The most classic one is Survival, where you have HP and the need to eat. For building you have to mine materials and just as the word Survival implies, it is a kind of survival. The second mode mentioned, Hardcore, is spiced up Survival. Same rules. Health bars, the need to eat, only the game is harder, mainly because in Survival mode you can freely switch between game difficulties while playing, while in Hardcore the game is locked and you can't get rid of mobs. And the last mode called Creative is the easiest. No lives, no hunger. Immortality and the ability to fly around the map with the ability to have every building material you want. This mode is mostly used for those who just want to do outright building. As I mentioned the most classic one is the Survival mode. You are dropped into a randomly generated world. Without anything. Your job is to survive. If you die, you spawn where you spawned when you created the world. This changes after you get wool and some wood, which will allow you to make a bed. Once you sleep in the game, the next time you die you will spawn where you slept. So once you've survived a few hours of gameplay by getting some materials to build a house and also getting some sheep's wool to make a bed, you're pretty much set. The fact that you have to have materials for a house was an example. You don't have to. You could make a treehouse. You can make a house in a cave. Underground. Underwater. I don't know... There's just so many possibilities, and that's what makes Minecraft so excellent, because every player will have their own unique path through the game. As well as building, there's also mining, which I think is such a great way to relax. You're just digging around in your cave, laying torches and suddenly... Boom! Creeper behind you and you're dead. I'm taking it back. It's not really that relaxing. There are mobs in the game besides you that spawn at night and come after you. They just want to eat you for dinner. You, of course, want to defend yourself, so you kill them with your sword, which you crafted thanks to the Crafting Table. The Crafting Table here will designate you to craft items. A few years ago, this could be quite frustrating for newcomers because there is a sort of grid that you place different materials in to make items. Previously you had to know what to put where and how to put it. Either you figured it out or the internet helped you. But nowadays the game has gone through a lot of updates including the fact that now the game already shows you what and how to put where to make the item you want. So for new players, perfect. So much for crafting. Back to mobs. You have your crafted sword and you go kill the bastards. Once you kill them, you get some marbles shining on you. You pick them up, and you see a line start to fill up at the bottom. That line is a level. Yes, your character is leveling up. Minecraft may not be a solid RPG, but you gain level here, which you can then use to enchant your items. Enchant is something that upgrades items. It gives them more damage or an unbreakable time, for example, because your weapons will be destroyed here sooner or later. It depends on what material they're made of. If it's wood, they'll be destroyed right away and won't do any real damage. But if you mine deep underground for a while and have patience, you can find coal, iron, gold, redstone and especially diamonds! Diamonds are the key here. Such diamond weapons can last a while and give the most damage. And diamonds are needed to finish the game, because with them you can make the diamond pickaxe you need to mine obsidian. You can then use the obsidian to create a portal to the Nether. Unfortunately, this is where the biggest problem comes in, and for me the only downside of the game. You'll need to kill a few blazers and then, in the normal world, a few Enderman to create the Ender Perel that will lead you to the endgame. Maybe I'm just a noob, but finding the Endermans took me a while and getting the Ender Perel felt unnecessarily lengthy. Once you have enough Ender Perels, they lead you to the End Portal, which I also had quite a bit of trouble finding though. So aside from that problematic ending for me, though, Minecraft is an amazing game that I recommend and a MUST-PLAY title for me. Expand

Not only is it an all time classic but Mojang just keep adding **** to the point where 11 years after full release and we’re still getting plenty of welcome additions to the game. The soundtrack has always been regarded as one of the best of all time and it continues to meet those standards with every expansion. Entertaining combat, heartbreaking story; well worth anyones money.

I can see why. Minecraft is a very well-made game. There are many aspects to this game I enjoy. I love Creative Mode. It was such a blast creating whatever I wanted out of blocks. (Despite how limiting that sounds, it's actually really fun to think outside the box) For example, I loved building numerous NES sprites out of simple wool. I mean, you could literally create whatever your heart desires, and I love that about Minecraft.

For a while, that's the only thing I did until I discovered the beauty of the different servers. Mineplex and Hypixel are extremely nostalgic servers, and I played on them and a few others all the time. I still do with my friends from time to time, and it's such a blast.

To be honest though, I never got into the Survival Mode. I know a lot of that is just me, because Survival games really aren't my thing, but I found it very slow and boring. But everything you can do in Minecraft is completely optional, and it doesn't affect my enjoyment for this game at all.

Though, I'll just say this, I don't think the soundtrack is all that good. The only one I can remember out of the top of my head is the four main notes of Sweden. Everything else is just a blank for me. I always have the music turned off in the settings unless I want it on for the atmosphere.

Still, Minecraft is one of my favorite video games of all time, and I'll never forget all the memories I had.

Can Minecraft bring you a proper amount of hours of intense fun ?

    ///

Well, let's start of by highlighting that this review is being written in 2021 on the 1.16.5 update. The "Good Ol' Days" of Minecraft as an indy are long gone, yet the game stays at the top and regularly comes back up on the popularity charts.

The game's popularity is well deserved and has everything one needs. We can easily state that any and everyone will find a gameplay suiting their interest, whether it is creativity in one's own little world, a challenge in survival meeting strangers, or a mix of both on a private server with friends.
That alone, lets Minecraft rise among the best games in the world, and makes it very likely to provide you with long and plentiful hours of fun.

However, being number one has a downside. Far back is the time where we used to have snapshot over snapshot over snapshot on a weekly basis and "major" updates, with plentiful of functionalities, many times a year. And for someone that knew this Golden Age, the current rhythm of added content leaves a bitter taste.
Updates adds their fair share of content, but comes around twice a year. The price of popularity, the need for perfect stability, and extended bug-tracking we guess ? Nevertheless, getting so few content added feels a bit frustrating when you start perceiving the endless possibilities of the game.
Hopefully, the community mods & modpacks are here for you !

Now onto what makes you stop playing it after building a good house and a slain enderdragon (even if you won't avoid coming back to it in a year or so !): the lack of incentives. We're talking here game-based incentives: the sacralized place that the Enderdragon has, right before the credits, makes us call it a "boss". However, it is sadly pretty easy and lacks scaling to the number of players the immense possibilities of enchanting do not need to be exploited nearly to their maximum for any player to have comfortable odds of beating the boss without deaths. Same for the Wither. And once they both are down, well... You're left in the world. It would not be fair to say Minecraft ends here, rather, you now are left with your own incentives, as you have "beat the game". Possibilities are many, but the motivation now has to be intrinsic. That is why "endless possibilities" don't rhyme with "endless hours of gaming" for everyone. Achievements, for instance, are a good step towards orienting player to new challenges.

That is why Minecraft gets a grade of 9: we did not sing praises all the Minecraft's great survival experience and room for creativity deserves, but we highlighted the two aspects that its gameplay lacks. They could make you want to exploit all the room you're left with to experiment, create and optimize, but instead you hit the incentives ceiling pretty fast and new content comes slowly.

It fits everything you want in a game for kits. I would have rated this 10/10 but Minecraft does lack sometimes but mods that are community made make them better

While at first glance, graphics seem poor and gameplay stagnant, they say you are only limited by your imagination. While not entirely true, it does accomplish many things that may make it seem that way. First, the world is infinitely large for the most part and is "randomly" generated based on the seed for the world. This may very well the best thing about the game. The lack of boundaries and varied terrain give it a feel no other game has. Next, it has random caves, the nether, the end, the enderdragon, creatures (both good and evil), npc villages, a wire system, crafting, enchanting, etc. Many of these things serve their own purpose, but a few are noticeably a WIP, which I can NOT respect in a game that has been "released". Call me old fashioned, but I like games to be COMPLETED on release as it should be the final product. The first major drawback to me are the villagers. These human-like npcs are unresponsive and simply walk around, even if attacked. They serve NO purpose other than decoration for the villages. Next, the Nether is basically worthless. Go once and hope to find once of those premade dungeons to get the items you need. Leave and hope you never have to go back to that bland atmosphere. Finally, I really began to dislike the newest additions such as the Enderdragon, Enchanting, Villages, Strongholds, Ruins, Mineshafts, or basically anything premade in the world generator. It doesn't feel like the original Minecraft and they all lack any personality. While these drawbacks may seem severe, I find that the gameplay is excellent in most cases provided you learn how to use the wire system and are patient. My final downside for the game is actually related to its price. $28 USD for this is RIDICULOUS. I'm glad I bought it in beta during the wedding sale ($22 for 2 copies). The game isn't worth over $15. If it wasn't so highly priced, I would have given it a 9, but it isn't worth the cost. Expand

There are risks to playing online: "grieving" which can be annoying. Also I have had a server crash on me a few times. Both single player and online Minecraft are fun enough to keep you playing for hours, if not days or months. The game design is fun with a 8-bit look. It is easy to learn while playing and controlling it isn't hard. Overall, the game doesn't deserve and perfect score but I would DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone looking for a new game. Expand

(by the time I write this, I could pre-order black ops II for more than double the price of MC, and it will be probably about 5 hrs of the well known linear gameplay and of course many hours of unimaginative pew-pew multiplayer) So the price is fine. If you feel cheated after buying MC just because you've "heard good things about it" it is probably not your type of game. It isn't a fast paced action game, it is rather about exploring, planning, building. It requires ideas first, and patience to make those plans come to life. Combat is quite a minor aspect of the game, therefore you can simply play in creative mode or simply turn off mobs in survival as well. Yes it has bugs. But at least you get those fixes AND improvements fro free. Still better than paying for new and new DLCs imho. You get bored after some time? So what? I get bored of any game if playing it for weeks constantly. But in minecraft there is still the possibility to dust it off even after a year and spend another month playing it. I call this acceptable. I tend to spend money only on those games that contain at least 5 days of gameplay, this is why I only buy RPGs AND minecraft. So stop complaining and don't expect this game to be something else that it was supposed to be.
About flaws: AI needs much improvement. In 1.2.5 developers spent many time improving the ocelot's (?!!?) AI, but still villagers tend to jump off cliffs, killing themselves. And some improved interaction with NPCs would be nice. Maybe more and bigger pre-generated towns. (maybe it's just me, but I love to defend and improve these premade settlements) I'd also love to choose starting biomes. I mean when I start a new survival map I hate to spawn in a desert or on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere, mainly because I don't want to wander too far from my spawn location.
All in all, Minecraft is a very unique game, no1 in it's genre. If you enjoy building, fooling around without any consequences, you should absolutely buy it, look at it as a long time investment, since you'll be able to play and enjoy it even after months of a break.

The game that basically has redefined the sandbox genre. You can almost do anything you want. I could rant and rave on what is good, but my favorable score show show that. I'm going to write the short-comings because people need to understand what they are gonna either miss or want.

Firstly, when you get in the game, you can do whatever you want, but that is a downside. For the not very creative people (like me), it is hard to keep playing the game when I don't have an end-goal to achieve. You can explore FOREVER and will get lost and if you die and are lost? Say good bye to whatever you were carrying.

Secondly, from the beta days to now the weekly snapshots, it has gone from a creative little world to an adventure mode that has again no goal. You can explore and find a village, but it doesn't necessarily help you. You can enchant weapons/items to help you, but it isn't necessary. It gives you freedom to do what you want, but with no guidance, what's the point?

Thirdly, Mods and add-ons. The game does a great job with allowing the player to do what they want, but it gets outrageous. They allow people to add their own texture packs, but not the mods to allow users to accomplish their personal goals quicker. For example, what if I am building a tower? I need a "flying" mod so I don't need to worry about falling and dying. Every update/release you would have to re-install the mods. I know Mojang does not specifically support the mods system, but since EVERYONE is using them, why not just add that in?

The multiplayer in the game is great, and can be amazing when you have a server filled with people who help each other, but you always get griefers who want to watch the world burn.

My only complaints are that if your computer is slow, the game is VERY laggy when you try to play on maximum settings. Also, there is not a wide variety of tools and weapons and once you play for a little while, you will notice that most tools are just upgraded rather than being different (eg. a wooden pick-axe will upgrade to a stone pick-axe etc.). Monsters that will come out at night and appear in dark places, (badly lit houses, caves, tunnels, under over-hangs, ect) then monsters include Zombies, Skeletons with bows, and Creepers (appear on earth). Personally, I give Creepers the award for being the scarcest, (As in "Oh god, no!") and most annoying enemy, ever. Creepers will run at you when they see you, and explode when they are about 3-4 blocks away from you, this is bad since the blast will destroy the sounding blocks (Your house?) Also since there is a day and night system which lasts 10 minutes for day, 7 for night, and 1.5 for sunrise/sunset. The graphics are terrible, but that's not the point, Notch (the creator's username) is looking for good game play, and is also trying not to make MineCraft non-repetitive, which is why the maps are randomly generated, this way you can find hidden tunnels, caves, and pieces of land that look just awesome. Minecraft is literally and figuratively "endless". There is an infinitely generating map stretching as far as you care to wonder, and the abundance of modifications that allow you to reinvent the game a million times over, keep it mostly "new". Now thats the game in a nutshell, however there are a few aspects, both the technical and audible that leave you with a bitter taste after a few hours of gameplay.

The sounds clips of doors opening and closing, the sound of zombies, cows and chickens can get annoying. Especially after 9345th time a door creaks open with the exact same repetitive sound clip it always used. Also it only takes about an hour to become effectively invincible to any attack, which needless to say eliminates the challenging aspect of the game almost entirely. Now thats off-putting, I know. However, like I mentioned in the first paragraph, the modifications expand the possibilities of, well anything, thats whats so good about the Minecraft mods.

The modifications allowed me to fly in a zeppelin and listen to voice acting and read scriptures as I progressed through a user made story line!

People say the graphics aren't very good. At your first glance you'd be forgiven to think so. Yes the textures are repetitive, but you have to expect that. They are definitely memorable though, you won't find anything like minecraft textures anywhere else! However the game does infact upscale the resolution depending on the size of the window. And the lighting is surprisingly beautiful. Yes the shadows are completely static and blurry, but the sun setting and rising is genuinely beautiful! So maybe think twice when your calling the graphics bad. There really isn much more to say about this game. The modifications make this game interesting, nothing else. If you don't intend on modding this game, I suggest you don't intend on buying this game.

The graphical style of Minecraft is pretty inspired by retro games, what with it's emphasis on blocks. It won't require the holiest of graphics cards, but that doesn't mean the game looks bad. In fact, the game can prove that good graphics aren't needed to make a beautiful looking game. You start off each world with three modes; Survival, Creative and Hardcore. Survival tasks you with surviving the world of Minecraft and progressing through a very light 'campaign'. It is more survival like than it's biggest rival Terraria, but don't expect to go all Bear Grylls. Hardcore Mode, however, tasks you with surviving even more than Survival; you get one life (meaning once you die, the world gets deleted, almost similar to Terraria) and you are stuck on the hardest difficulty.
Creative is where Minecraft can show it's true colours. Creative Mode gives you all the items available in the game (with an infinite supply), unlimited health and the ability to fly and destroy blocks with one hit. Minecraft has shown that the possibilities of what you can do are almost endless. You can make anything from a 1:1 scale, fully functional space-ship, to pixel art of Rainbow Dash. There is also a very heavy modding scene in the game, with custom maps, texture packs and even mods that add more features to the game. However, the game isn't without it's faults. Unless you give yourself a goal, the game could turn out getting stale after a while. There's only so many times one can venture into a dungeon and have an epic battle with spiders. Also, the game still feels like a beta. A late beta, but a beta nonetheless. Multiplayer isn't polished yet and don't expect the single player experience to be flawless. Despite this, Minecraft is worth your time, if you have any. At almost £17, it can seem a bit steep for what you get initially, but this game can offer much more content than even a £40/£50 game.

While initially lacking some features that could have made the game more enjoyable; the majority of those features have now been added. The chief complaint from those that have clearly not played the game is that the graphics are terrible and that reason alone is enough to avoid the game. If you ever actually play the game you realize that the block design was by choice as well as for convenience and in no way affects the way you play the game. Everything is designed to fit with the blocks, the enemies, the tools, even the watermelons are square! Although I have moved on to the Feed the Beast pack due to the shear amount to do it in; Minecraft is definitely worth your time. Expand

Great game at making a soapbox type world builder. Needs more things to do other than just mining and building. Something for a more challenge to do alongside the building.

This game is worth playing its very independent very fun.... I bought it when it was 13$ and only like 200 people a day bought it. It has a whole bunch of new thing's and it was worth 13 easy and is worth 30$ easy.

Minecraft is a great game, no doubt about it. However, there are some key issues with it. There are many bugs, for starters. This was to be expected when the game was in beta, but now it's in a full release version I would have expected it to be working fully.

Also, even with the seemingly undemanding graphics, the game struggles to run on many low end PC's, even on the lowest graphics

Overall, Minecraft is a great game with some minor, fixable setbacks.

The 1.0 version of the indie phenomena is still obviously unfinished and flawed in many ways, but it's so easy to forget that when you're building your dream castle, exploring scary caves and vast mountain ranges and having a great time in its blocky world.

While Minecraft may not be everybody's cup of tea, I doubt anyone can deny that it's an important step into new territory.

A must-play title - as much a part of videogaming as it is anything else. [Issue#118, p.102]
