Minecraft was extremely popular at the time I got into it in 2013, and then it eventually died down for a while...and then it skyrocketed again in recent years.

Minecraft was extremely popular at the time I got into it in 2013, and then it eventually died down for a while...and then it skyrocketed again in recent years.

I can see why. Minecraft is a very well-made game. There are many aspects to this game I enjoy. I love Creative Mode. It was such a blast creating whatever I wanted out of blocks. (Despite how limiting that sounds, it's actually really fun to think outside the box) For example, I loved building numerous NES sprites out of simple wool. I mean, you could literally create whatever your heart desires, and I love that about Minecraft.

For a while, that's the only thing I did until I discovered the beauty of the different servers. Mineplex and Hypixel are extremely nostalgic servers, and I played on them and a few others all the time. I still do with my friends from time to time, and it's such a blast.

To be honest though, I never got into the Survival Mode. I know a lot of that is just me, because Survival games really aren't my thing, but I found it very slow and boring. But everything you can do in Minecraft is completely optional, and it doesn't affect my enjoyment for this game at all.

Though, I'll just say this, I don't think the soundtrack is all that good. The only one I can remember out of the top of my head is the four main notes of Sweden. Everything else is just a blank for me. I always have the music turned off in the settings unless I want it on for the atmosphere.

Still, Minecraft is one of my favorite video games of all time, and I'll never forget all the memories I had.

This game is amazing, although it is overrated. It is extremely fun and is better with friends. It is jam-packed with content but updates take a large bit to come out. Java favouritism gets quite annoying if you're a bedrock player like me but it is tolerable. Overall I would rate this game 8.4.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about features and how the developers are "full of themselves" they release an update weekly called "weekly snapshots". They contain bugs and are works in progress but that is the whole idea behind Minecraft it is a work in progress. It always will be. Unlike other open world games like GTA, there is always more coming. The only limitation to this game is yourself and if the game doesn't have a feature, there is most likely a mod that does.

Monsters that will come out at night and appear in dark places, (badly lit houses, caves, tunnels, under over-hangs, ect) then monsters include Zombies, Skeletons with bows, and Creepers (appear on earth). Personally, I give Creepers the award for being the scarcest, (As in "Oh god, no!") and most annoying enemy, ever. Creepers will run at you when they see you, and explode when they are about 3-4 blocks away from you, this is bad since the blast will destroy the sounding blocks (Your house?) Also since there is a day and night system which lasts 10 minutes for day, 7 for night, and 1.5 for sunrise/sunset. The graphics are terrible, but that's not the point, Notch (the creator's username) is looking for good game play, and is also trying not to make MineCraft non-repetitive, which is why the maps are randomly generated, this way you can find hidden tunnels, caves, and pieces of land that look just awesome. In my opinion you should get MineCraft, its a great game. Expand

It is simple, yet addictive, and the pure creationism of it allows you to build to your heart's content. There are those who complain about the graphics, but if those people can't get over the graphics and see this brilliant game is then I pity them. And the graphics aren't actually bad at all, they suit the game and are quite charming. Just the thrill of exploring a randomly generated world and finding all kinds of wonderful and peculiar things. And exploring the bowels of the earth, hunting for those elusive diamonds and always looking over your should lest a monster creep up on you. Multiplayer, though still in development, allows players to connect with their friends and build their dream house, castle, fort ,cave, or whatever they may wish. There are also those who would criticise the game's single developer, and we do need to remember that this game is made by one man, Notch works hard to produce this brilliant game, but if he decides that he doesn't want to patch the game, then the game is not patched, god forbid he should ever go on holiday. He may have established an office for Mojang, but it is simply so that he can surround himself with the greatest programming talent in Sweden. If you are even considering buying this game, then you definitely should. I held out for a while but when I finally played this game, I was hooked from the very beginning. However, if you have a love of creating things and play game that is what you make of it, then minecraft is for you. This is not a traditional game, it is a simplified 3d rendering program done in a game theme. You literally have the freedom to create whatever your imagination can come up with using 1 meter cubed blocks. They can sculpt a giant hand flipping the bird if they really want to, or create a scale model of the Enterprise. Or they can build a castle, a dungeon, a maze... Minecraft lets the player build almost anything they want.

Of course, a game without clear goals will bore some people and turn them off this game. The blocky graphics as well, while ideal (more or less) for a game of this kind, would probably turn some people away, especially with the ongoing "prettier is better" thought process that seems to be spreading in the industry. There are never too many great building games. Minecraft is one of the best. If you played with legos in your childhood you've got to love this. The idea is simple, put blocks and remove blocks. This easy mechanism allows you to create whatever you want. And it's cheap too.

In fact, the simplicity of the fundamentals of this game -- everything is made of equally-sized cubes -- is one of its greatest strengths. Compared to some other much fancier games offering user-generated content (e.g. Virtual Life, Little Big World, Lego Universe), there is no barriers of entry in Minecraft -- anyone can do it, regardless of one's technical or artistic aptitude. Once inside, the possibilities are endless. You can immerse yourself alone or bring your friends and collaborate together via a server. Don't like the default 8-bit look? There are mods aplenty. While not entirely true, it does accomplish many things that may make it seem that way. First, the world is infinitely large for the most part and is "randomly" generated based on the seed for the world. This may very well the best thing about the game. The lack of boundaries and varied terrain give it a feel no other game has. Next, it has random caves, the nether, the end, the enderdragon, creatures (both good and evil), npc villages, a wire system, crafting, enchanting, etc. Many of these things serve their own purpose, but a few are noticeably a WIP, which I can NOT respect in a game that has been "released". Call me old fashioned, but I like games to be COMPLETED on release as it should be the final product. The first major drawback to me are the villagers. These human-like npcs are unresponsive and simply walk around, even if attacked. They serve NO purpose other than decoration for the villages. Next, the Nether is basically worthless. Go once and hope to find once of those premade dungeons to get the items you need. Leave and hope you never have to go back to that bland atmosphere. Finally, I really began to dislike the newest additions such as the Enderdragon, Enchanting, Villages, Strongholds, Ruins, Mineshafts, or basically anything premade in the world generator. It doesn't feel like the original Minecraft and they all lack any personality. While these drawbacks may seem severe, I find that the gameplay is excellent in most cases provided you learn how to use the wire system and are patient. My final downside for the game is actually related to its price. $28 USD for this is RIDICULOUS. I'm glad I bought it in beta during the wedding sale ($22 for 2 copies). The game isn't worth over $15. If it wasn't so highly priced, I would have given it a 9, but it isn't worth the cost. Expand

The game is simple, build, mine, fight, yet the creator, Notch, keeps expanding on this Idea and keeps this game fresh with every update, considering that it's still in beta. Definitely worth the buy.

While I'm sad to see it suffer in that regard, I'm very glad that for every nay-sayer there are 5 people who could blow me away with their creations and excellent uses of the ultimate sandbox world. However, I think there is one big flaw in Minecraft, and that is the development team. I do realize it is an indie developer, and can only handle so many bug fixes and content addition, many of them (Notch especially) were planning and talking about moving on from Minecraft to new projects before the game was even released at Minecon. There was so much potential and momentum in this game that I thought was lost in the area of the staffing at Mojang. However, the silver lining is that much of that potential was regained within the excellent modding community. All that aside, Minecraft is a game one would enjoy in a predisposed "creative" mood. Typically I find those who don't enjoy it aren't visual thinkers, and enjoy tight corridor games with point and shoot mechanics. But at the end of the day, Minecraft is, by indie development standards, an excellent and solid game. Bugs are minor and exploitable, and otherwise go unnoticed at times. Content may be lacking in some respect, but it has come a long way from the alpha version. Expand

Survival feels like my own personal little world, while creative is letting my imagination loose. The graphics are cute and suitable for this game, it really sets the mood. But I can understand some people's dislike for the graphics. There are a few bugs here and there but it doesn't really affect the overall experience. However, what we have here is the birth of a new game genre which inspired other game developers to create similar games (the most famous is Terraria). Despite the blocky and pixelated graphics (or better saying: Voxels) Minecraft is another proof you don't need a PS3 or DX11 graphics to make a game good and entertaining. Sure, sometimes you get lost and bored when you don't know what to do, but as long you have a goal to do in this game it'll never get boring. Be building (or reforming) a home, crafting new items, spelunking the caves searching for rare minerals, wandering in the vast world or just creating or recreating a mansion or whatever you want to do in the Creative Mode.

Also despite the blocky graphics, Minecraft CAN scare you. Specially when you're venturing in the mines. Nothing more scaring than digging for minerals in a mine when suddenly you hear a "sssss" right behind you before you're victim of a explosion (and dies) or when you turn around a dark corner just to see a big and furry spider lunging at your face.

In the end, Minecraft is a game for creative and intelligent gamers who can see what lies behind a world made of blocked and "ugly" grafics. In my most honest opinion, if this game don't deserves a 10. Then no other game deserves it.

I have played minecraft since the first release of alpha, and have loved it all the way. The graphics that some people call s*** make the spirit of the game, and actually make it better. Without these graphics, Minecraft would not have its charm and would not be Minecraft. The building side of MInecraft is amazing, being able to construct everything you dream of. Survival mode pits you against monsters that come out at night, and all in all is REALLY FUN.

The developers are not lazy, as many have said. They work there butts of every day to make new content and add what fans want, constantly making the game more fun and exciting. Multiplayer is extremely fun, espacially with bukkit and plugins adding factions, npcs, and other great things to MInecraft. The reason why this game is so popular is that you can do anything you want, as the Yogscast have shown us, even make a gigantic sprawling story with twists and turns!

While it is still lacking, however, the constant updates are nice and I do believe that there is a LOT more to come. *Note that this is my first review so pardon if I'm doing something wrong*

    The bad:
With a lack of a tutorial or even an in-game book that records what you have crafted for later use, the game drops the player flat on his face and then forces you to learn how to actually use the game using online wikis and things of the sort. I've been hiding behind the fact that Minecraft was in beta and that everything will be polished out in the full release... WRONG. The game has a lot of nice aspects but fails to deliver things that would incorporate casual players into the mix. The game is severly lacking in the multiplayer section and uses a clunky server-ip system that I would have thought would be nicely fleshed out. Setting up a server for you and your friends is all-too much of a hassle to be considered a "good" experience. The only boss in the game is an "ender-dragon" which features more or less redundant A.I. The only thing that really tells you that it's a boss is it's absurdly high amount of health that's constantly regenerating due to these "towers." The boss isn't so much fun as it is just plain annoying. After I wasted that 15 minutes of my life, all I had to show for it was a boring screen of just text. I DID get a ****-load of experience, but what does that do IF THE BOSS IS ALREADY DEAD?

    The good:
The game aims to be an interactive sandbox and does a very good job of doing so. Players are put into an infinite, randomly-generated/ing world in survival mode and are forced to gather materials in order to survive. At night, or in any dark area, monsters appear. The player must build up defenses as he mines materials. These materials can be put together to create more elaborate items, or "crafted" items: hence the name "Mine"-"Craft". The game even features a basic form of circuitry called redstone that the player can manipulate with pistons and buttons to create the grandest of button-operated doors, monster traps, or whatever your heart desires. The idea of a monster being able to creep up on you at any given moment and scare you ****-less just adds to the suspense. The best thing about Minecraft, however, is that the experience is yours; you build what YOU want to build. The idea of spending time doing something that has an awesome outcome just invokes this sense of accomplishment in the player. The things that you build are constantly evolving in trivial little bursts at a time into something amazing that YOU built. Bottom line:
While the game DOES have a lot of gameplay, the Mojang team is spending too much time expanding on content when the game SHOULD be working on the features it promised so long ago. The game still doesn't feel finished, but that's not to draw away from what is, in the end, an amazing experience.

Firstly you a spawned at a random spot in an infinitely random world which is always one of a kind. Your primary objective on the first day is to build a shelter and make pretty basic tools to copinside with the onslaught of various amazing mobs that are coming your way at dusk. The mobs consist of Creepers- Exploding Green Penis looking things. Skeletons- which shoot a lot of arrows at you from the darkness Zombies- Which are err...Zombies and Spiders- Which are spiders. Most of these can be seen while you are adventuring the countless caverns that are laid randomly underneath your world! So Overall An amazing game which offers countless hours of enjoyment without you even thinking about It.. A must buy! Expand

Pretty damn hard to say anything bad at all about this game. I love building things even on the classic servers where there's no survival. I find the regular survival Minecraft enticing as well. I enjoy building shelters and waiting out the night. Maybe I just like sandbox games in general.

Pure, unadulterated fun. If you have a creative mind for Minecraft, be prepared to spend a portion of your life on this game. And considering this game is still in the beta stage, I'm having a hard time trying to hold my breath for when this actually gets released.

To be honest, this game is basically better than most games that you can buy for the Xbox 360/PS3 Ect.

I own a copy myself and I have been hooked. The sandbox nature of peoples minds is in this game. There is no structure to the game itself, no story, but it doesn't need that. It is a masterpiece. It is the best game that I have ever owned.

BEST GAME IN HISTORY. A very creative game that takes long to get bored. It is huge open map where you can do anything, whenever i want for e.g i can even save in the middle of the map and then chose to join that map again. It's just amazing too amazing took me a long time to get bored of it and in the 1.0 full release everything i want is there

as games go this is up there with the best. simple. addictive , fun, intuitive, clever. you can pl;ay the game in a variety of ways some focus on building, others mining, some exploring the infinite land which is generated. some people slate it and those are mostly the people who haven't played it. give it a go for an hour and you'll be hooked. watch out for the creepers though!

This is one of the best games I have ever played (as you can see by my username) and I am addicted to it! Minecraft is a very addicting game in which you build things out of blocks of materials. You can build anything you want! This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think that this game is a masterpiece that is overlooked because of its graphics (which aren't that bad!). It's AMAZING!!! The graphics are horrible. the sound is... well... there isn't much sound at all. Minecraft is starting a new genre of games. I think its the best pc-game of the 2000 century.it's so mutch to explore and so much materials to find. I like the graphics because its cool that everything is made of cubes. Noch has made a fantastic game witch i hope will be the game of the year 2011

The games is so incredible, cause it has some of the most primitive graphics, yet they immediately reach into your heart, because of the fantastic game-play. The best indie game there is in my opinion,

The 1.0 version of the indie phenomena is still obviously unfinished and flawed in many ways, but it's so easy to forget that when you're building your dream castle, exploring scary caves and vast mountain ranges and having a great time in its blocky world.

A must-play title - as much a part of videogaming as it is anything else. [Issue#118, p.102]
