I enjoyed a lot of Maneater, even if the repetitive missions grated on me. It was fun to swim around as a shark, fighting whales and hunting down evil humans. Exploring the world of Port Clovis as a sleek and deadly maneater reminded me of how great it felt to swing around NYC in Spider-Man, including ignoring objectives to explore just a little longer and find collectibles. Despite its lack of things to do, Maneater does one thing—being a bloodthirsty shark—very well.

It feels good to be a “thoughtless” creature of hunger and rage. You know those novelty rooms humans visit, where they put on protective gear and break stuff with baseball bats and sledgehammers. That is me, that is my life.
  3. The quality of the writing itself was fine, and genuinely made me smile in places. I just think it’s a tricky subject to wade into without a coherent plan for what should be said. And I know “it’s just a game,” etc., but when sharks are as perilously threatened as they are, and one of the big reasons is that people think of them as a threat to be annihilated, it’s just a bit depressing to see the idea celebrated. And whatever might be claimed about the game’s writing undermining that, I’m sorry, but that’s what it does. Maybe I’d care less if Maneater was fun enough overall to earn a pass. But as you’ve hopefully gathered by now, it’s not.

Controls are not responsive, every battle is too chaotic with rapid camera movement, sloppy animations and no brain work involved at all. Pretty much every quest is the same like eat 10 fishes A, eat 10 fishes B, kill 10 men here, kill 10 men there etc. Also performance is a mess, FPS drops quite often and sometimes (rarely) the game just crashes. It can be fun, but not for long. Can't recommend buying at full price. Full Review »

The core concept of the game (being a shark, evolving and killing you way to your final form) is pretty fun and the gameplay is easy to master but that is all that this game can be : a funny short experience.

The game has an almost non-existing story and revolve around 2 types of sub-quests and 3 types of collectibles for its 8 areas. Even the original content is poor : you will only be able to evolve in 3 types of shark

If you enjoy spamming attack and then doing the same 3 mission types over and over and over then this is a game for you. Story is pretty terrible and comes to such an abrupt ending you wonder why they even bothered to include it.

AI is terrible, you jump on land and then all the humans just stand in place screaming. The combat is dreadful, you have a few attacks but when you realise that spamming attack is the most effective means of attack it makes the rest of the abilities moot.

Go and kill ten fish, go and kill 10 humans, go and kill 10 fish back over there etc etc etc. If you enjoy this then by all means play it, if however you want something that doesn't get boring within 2 hours go and play something else.
