    in the New Game of the original script for 2002, I thought to see a lot more than the original. It turned out to be fewer times less, and apart from a linear plot, there is nothing in the game. The plot consists of an animated film and a dumb shooting, no matter what weapon you shoot, that there is not even a professional target for shooting.

    This is a poor remake and it was disingenuous of Hangar 13 to market it as a "faithful remake". Why? Consider the following:

    * No public transport, can't ride train or tram, can't even enter platforms. * No money system, can't buy anything. * Animations are ridiculously fast, to the point of looking comical. Mafia 1 was the opposite. * No gun shops, no restaurants to eat for health,    This is a poor remake and it was disingenuous of Hangar 13 to market it as a "faithful remake". Why? Consider the following:

    * No public transport, can't ride train or tram, can't even enter platforms.
    * No money system, can't buy anything.
    * Animations are ridiculously fast, to the point of looking comical. Mafia 1 was the opposite.
    * No gun shops, no restaurants to eat for health, nothing to do or interact with in the world.
    * No interactive gas stations with clerk.
    * Can't sit in car and turn off engine. Can't exit car with engine running. Can't turn on lights.
    * Dumb police behavior, crimes get "magically" reported even out in the country side.
    * Driving missions are hand-held and heavily rely on prescripted cutscene action events.
    * No buildings are enterable outside of missions.
    * NPCs don't respond with dialogue, and if they do its with one word.
    * Tommy has been rewritten to be a cocky d-bag, complete opposite manners to Mafia 1.
    * Same horrid LOD issues on distant objects like buildings and vehicles like Mafia 3.
    * Terrible AI.
    * Pop-in galore, to the point of cars and trains popping in right in front of you.
    * Textures are generally low resolution even on maxed settings. Heavy dithering.
    * Sounds are generally weaker in quality than Mafia 1. Lack of environmental audio.
    * Atrociously poor lighting, the game will fade between odd shades of white, yellow and blue.
    * Lucas Bertone missions missing from story mode.
    * Fake pretense that tries to squeeze out the "coolness" of the characters to sound modern.
    * In terms of city environment, you see the same buildings over and over again. Copy-paste.
    * Countryside is dead without any npcs. Arcady magic burning barrels that serve no purpose.
    * Cars missing from the original.
    * No ability to play as taxi driver or kill gangsters in free ride. No gangsters driving around.
    * Simulation driving mode is akin to a regular arcade driving mode, realistic physics are gone.
    * No realistic suicide doors on cars like Mafia 1.
    * No car tuning options like Mafia 2.
    * Poor damage model on cars, smash into wall at full speed does nothing.
    * The slow, methodical gameplay of Mafia 1 that increased difficulty and immersion is gone.
    * Can't open bonnet to repair car like in Mafia 2.
    * Lockpicking minigame dumbed down.
    * Majority of music from the original is missing including all Mills Brothers and Belleville.
    * Terrible gun play and cover system. Really, beyond parody.
    * No world interactivity like turning on lights, faucets, flushing toilets etc.
    * Intrusive toddler level waypoint markers telling you what to do and where to go at all times.
    * Lack of bullet detail like entry holes on car tires.
    * Bridges don't rise dynamically in freeride like in Mafia 1, they are "dead".
    * No dynamic day night cycle in freeride, it wasn't in Mafia 1, but standard for games today.

    This is 2002 vr 2020 game

    All these positive likes plus a twisted artificial image of the indicator! Not one self respecting gamer after analyzing everything WILL not put a finger on the top of this remake

    That is a lot of negative sentiment one might say. But the amount of positive reviews not even touching on the disconnect between what Hangar 13 marketed this to be and what it actually delivers honestly makes me worried for where this industry is going and I can't help to wonder about the thought process and motives behind of all these flawless masterpiece 10/10 reviews.

    For a newcomer, sure, this game might be fun for a couple of hours, albeit a pretty expensive fun. If you played the original, it is little more than a hollow shell. Moreover it is the literal definition of false advertising by Hangar 13 and 2K.    … Expand

    Things that bug me the most are the instant wanted level, a monetary system that is not in the game, lack of traffic variety in late game, and not being able to use trains and trams.

    Wouldn't expect any less of these lazy devs. Gaming industry sucks nowadays.

    H13 - Looks like they made the same mistakes they made in Mafia 2-3: Cutting all the gamechanging content :((

    One of the most and Rarest features that mafia 1 had was car fuels. Every cars in that game had fuel meter and they would running out by driving them . you could go to the gas stations and the Gas guy would came and refuel your cars which was very interesting. Also if bullets penetrated to your gas pump , it would make a hole and fuels could go empty faster .

    Urban Metro and Air Metro were two public transportations which you could enter them and transfer between city places . now in the remake Dev's closed their doors.

    In classic game when you had allies on your side like Pauli and Sam , They Had Health Bar just like you . they could die if they took bullets and even you could shoot them and reduce their health or even kill them. This feature made the game much harder and you needed to careful and watch your allies back too. they removed this feature in remake.

    Now I'm amazed how blind connoisseurs And especially the critics, put this game a positive score!? This game is difficult to call the game 2020 BEFORE the masterpieces of those past years from 2002 - compare and now evaluate on the actual component!    … Expand

    This is a flawed version of the game spoiled from the original and is short-cut. Freeride has nothing to play with in town for fun. Not a successful game from the Mafia series :(

    I hoped for a repolished Mafia game, and to some extend this game does deliver that. However, for anyone who loved the original game this game will just be a massive disappointment: Its an empty shell, a blant remake of a uniquely immersive game.

    Nearly all of the iconic missions that made this game so enjoyable have been changed to the worse: The airport mission Omerta with Frank is    I hoped for a repolished Mafia game, and to some extend this game does deliver that. However, for anyone who loved the original game this game will just be a massive disappointment: Its an empty shell, a blant remake of a uniquely immersive game.

    Nearly all of the iconic missions that made this game so enjoyable have been changed to the worse: The airport mission Omerta with Frank is unrecognisable, the port mission - Lucky Bastard - is crippled to a point... its **** the prison mission - election campaign - is an easy peasy run through. Tram with train not to use. Summa summarum all the iconic missions of the original Mafia are there but they are empty, streamlined, shells.

    Probably the worst part is that the Lucas Bertone missions fully disappeared, and Yellow Pete - the secret gunshop - too. Tommy being able to arm himself up to the teeth before driving to the museum shoot out was probably the peak of the entire game (!) cause the game didnt tell you that!

    In short, this game is a total disappointment . Buy the original one, get some grapfic mods and enjoy the true and only Mafia game there ever was.

    A very short game cut out 30% of the content from the original version. in Free mode cut 90% of all that was a joy to play the original. This "corona virus covid" game is made stupidly and very stupidly, easy and simple to let it into release for disappointment.

    No, it's a bad job to create a game like a cheap doll that needs to be sold to make money.
    If you want a real Mafia then know its 2002 edition as the original.

    Beautiful graphics and great cinematics and thats about it. It will take you less than 10 hours to complete this game. It has simple game mechanics and difficulty. No side quests or any reason to explore the world, even less than in the distant original that there is no to use trains with trams in the walk.     For what mode - Walk, if it is dead is not available for entertainment .
    Stupid game for 9 hours.

    The original mafia wasn't about killing people all the time. At this rate, you'd genocide the whole town.
    Or a dumb chase after every mission. They raped the whole point of the game. They ruined the driving model. They make you shoot all the time, but the combat is terrible. Stealth is boring. That's how you screw up a legend.

    I KNEW I should have just played the OG Mafia, rather than waste time on this Trilogy..The only good game is the one they mostly left alone.
    This is a mid remake of a game that was a true masterpice..The Story, driving and characters are still great , but the game is jenky and gameplay system are just broken and un fun...And wtf is with the woman is this Studios games, they are so fkn    I KNEW I should have just played the OG Mafia, rather than waste time on this Trilogy..The only good game is the one they mostly left alone.

    The script PORT. The tank barrel of the train must go after setting two arrows on the railway at the gate and the player sets it on fire for an explosion! You've ruined this Chapter beyond recognition , what a shame!
    And also why the Train and Tram are not available to the player - this is not an accessible game world at all, but only a visual image...

To call Salieri "Don" all the time is silly. Tommy hissy while is jail is silly. The black gangsta contemporary vocabulary in 30's is silly. The quest design improved lot of times, but i miss the "return to home" or "return to salieris bar" pacing quests.     1. Не позволяйте себя одурить: игра НЕ выглядит так, как ее презентуют на скриншотах и в трейлерах.

    Ну а что не так-то? Создалось впечатление, что почти всё не так. Вместо того, чтобы проанализировать и оставить все, за что так любили первую Мафию, ее главные изюминки просто выковыряли, вставили дешевые аркадные приемчики, а атмосферу просто убили. Нужно умудриться запороть возможность сделать шикарный римейк на шикарный оригинал.

    - Вы не сможете заехать к Луке после очередной миссии и украть новую тачку - такого больше нет
    - Ральф больше не будет нас учить взламывать замки, вы просто это умеете
    - В большинстве случаев вам не нужно будет ехать обратно домой после миссии
    - Гонку сделали более заскриптованной
    - Не доступны поезда и трамвай
    - Отклонение от линейного сюжета прерывает всю игру

    Прогулка:

    - Нельзя поехать на поезде или трамвае
    - Банда Морелло в больше не патрулирует улицы
    - Деньги теперь всегда есть и всегда бесконечные
    - "Большая прогулка" и "Прогулка" теперь один режим, причем вы больше не найдете те безумные миссии с анлоками необычных машин - большинство просто убрали. Вместо большой прогулки - суррогат в виде парочки миссий, в качестве награды можете открыть, например костюм клоуна или золотой Томми-ган

    Общее:

    - Нормальный прицел - извольте "целиться" через огромный кружок. Кто там знает толк в извращениях?
    - Нельзя точно целиться из машины (есть автоприцел-липучка, который будет за вас фиксироваться на целой машине).
    - Почти все светофоры, но парочку оставили
    - Возможность прокатиться на трамвае / надземке. Что примечательно, боты не лишены такой возможности, но вот к поезду вы даже близко не подойдете, т.к. ворота на все станциях перевязаны цепью с замком. Забавно видеть, как боты там запертые стоят наверху.
    - Остановить / Завести двигатель
    - Здравый смысл. Пешеходы могут почти мгновенно позвать копов из ниоткуда - в Америке 30х годов без сотовых.

    - Синдром

    Не могу сдержаться и не съязвить еще раз о "современных стандартах" .. знаете что нас ждет после окончания сюжета? Журнальчики, вкладыши и лисички, Карл! Они разбросаны по всей карте, иди и собери их всех, покемон ты наш. Зачем? Для ачивки. lol

    Не рекомендую, если хотите сохранить теплые воспоминания о любимой игре.
    Просто обидно, что люди, не игравшие в оригинал, подумают, что это и есть "та самая" Mafia.    … Expand

    I laugh at the publisher that could not properly copy the original version, that only everything was reduced to a minimum (in exchange to expand the gameplay) and the free city for a walk made it dead completely meaningless for the game. I was very sorry and I will not buy any more games from this company.

    yeah the game left me wanting more. the fact that the open world was restricted to a separate play with nothing to do in it was a huge letdown.
    Yeah, it was very disappointing. They changed WAY to much. Too many story points have been altered, and too many things from the original game left out.

    The world is nice, but its 'empty' with really nothing to do in it...

    definitely the worst of the mafia games. the game looks nice, and has SOME good voice acting, but a good amount of the voice acting is pretty bad. the combat system is awful, and the cover system barely works. driving feels downright terrible. balance of the game is just bad, it's not worth spending any money on really.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is not Mafia. This is some weird reboot/re-imagining that has completely butchered what made the original so great. Characters are unrecognizable. Tommy went from a conflicted, understated man caught up in something he wasn't quite sure of, to some stereotypical thug. Paulie now sounds like a sesame street character. Their relationship was the heart of the story, and now it's gone. You don't care about anyone. Sam's motivations no longer make any sense due to some truly bizarre rewrites. On the subject of rewrites, all the original subtlety of the game is gone. It's all been transformed into cheesy one-liners, and chest thumping machismo.

    The game looks good, not great. The lighting is awesome, but other than that it's not that impressive. The shooting is AWFUL, enemies are braindead, and on and on. Entire missions have been cut from the game, it took me under 9 hours to beat, and others have been changed dramatically, and not for better.

    For example, SPOILERS, there's a mission where you have to shoot down an airplane as it's taking off. In the original, you did this, and it crashed. In this game however, the plane doesn't crash right away, you have to pursue it as it flies flaming through the air across the city until it crashes. You then spout off a one-liner before executing the near dead target with your pistol. This is indicative of the change in tone. Tommy is now a coldblooded action hero. It's dumb, it's Hollywood blockbuster dumb.

    I was really looking forward to this, but Hanger 13 seems to have assumed they could just make the game look pretty, and call it Mafia hoping the majority of people who buy it never played the original. If you have played the original you're going to be disappointed. I actually redownloaded the 2002 game, and am having infinitely more fun playing that than this hollow shell of a game.    … Expand

    Was it worth it that in the world of advanced computer technologies, to make such a masterpiece so bad that it causes outrage, and this remake was done without any desire at all. The original was made professionally with a soul and is far superior to this pathetic piece of garbage.

    It's just a parody of a feature film, but not a game like the original of 2002 and it doesn't look like it.     I didn't think that after a year, the game was never finished. Not introduced a unit of currency money, not expanded the story (as made it short not complete) no interaction in freeride.
    We all Mafia fans just got screwed for our money.

    Crap happens, but it happened with the so-called DEFINITIVE EDITION of the MAFIA game! Not self-respecting Hangar-13 at least would understand what makes the history of the MAFIA game and just made a CASTRATED puppy. What a laziness in this work, there are no patches, you can only expect from experienced modders, maybe they, like the 2nd mafia, will also revive the game.

    The name of the game is fake! This is not the final edition. This is a straight-forward mini-story story on rails. There should not be Freeride in this form as it looks now. Then it would be a justified purchase with truthful information about the game and its creation.

    This edition as DEFINITIVE EDITION, has a false name. Everything interesting has been cut from the main game. The chapter in the port was killed off as a piece not resembling the scenario of that first one at all! The city is dead, getting on the streetcar or subway train is not possible, which was glorious in part 1. In general it is a piece of not finished alpha version and abandoned as it is.

    As always, the 2K game studio has NOT finalized the game to the ideal of its playability in all respects. The story is cut off in many ways, freeride is an empty not accessible city just as a picture. **** for a year not one update in favor of the players..

    The shortest and most stripped-down story is just a spit from the original. All locations are closed, I can't go by tram or metro. A free game as a piece of a background picture without access to the locations of the game does not make sense. The chapter in the port is disfigured beyond recognition. The developer is proud of this **** seriously!?

    This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

    The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is “merely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of mixed flavours. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's great. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's awful. Mixture of aged mechanics and amazing graphics, new voices, great old story and some added, yet bad storylines, make it not such a perfect remake. But it sure is worth your time, whether you are a fan of the original or not. The moral of the story survived in all its glory, just be sure to focus your attention to the details where Mafia used to and still shines the most.
