    A Great Story rich game. As someone who hasn't played the original. This was a great game. Really enjoyed the plot unfolding and the characters were amazing as well.

    This game oozes atmosphere, great remake. Really enjoyed the story, gameplay is good enough. Don't buy this one for the gameplay, if you like mobster stories this one is as good as any Scorcese on screen.

    This remaster builds on this principle by maintaining and updating the graphical fidelity of the game while retaining most of the aspects of the story and above all else, the concepts and ideas of the original game’s missions.

    In turn, this remake also chooses to update the gameplay, adding multiple difficulty options that both provide the challenging experience from the original game, as well as a balanced and easier challenge more akin to the contemporary standards that players expect out of a game’s level of difficulty.

    This is a welcome addition as it is all of the different added upgrades to the visuals, Lost Haven is a beautifully recreated city based around Chicago, New York, and the San Francisco of the 1930’s, the city is brimming with detail, as I drove in the multiple missions of the game I could witness a strike outside of an auto shop, a sign departing my stay from the city as I neared the airport, and a fully functional set of bridges with even an area, in one mission -that remains optional-, where you take one of your companions to a brothel near the docks.

    There are also some pretty welcome additions, the game is fairly linear in its story using the open world more like a stage in which to present it, but there’s also the unlockable bonus mode β€œFree Ride” which serves as a sandbox open world mode allowing you to explore and play with complete liberty in the city. During the campaign and this additional mode, there are also period comics, from detective novels, to science fiction ones, they serve and contribute in creating the atmosphere of the time. On a later update after launch there was also an alternate visual mode added to Mafia; β€œThe Noir Mode” as the name suggest, turns the picture into a black and white representation akin to classic gangster movies; thanks to the updated graphical fidelity in conjunction with this mode, this offers a unique way of playing through the campaign, truly enhancing in an alternate way both cutscenes and gameplay, capturing beautifully the atmosphere of the time and succeeding in the intentional, of making the game look -for the most part-, like a motion picture.

    If there are complaints for me, they arise with two aspects: one is the fact that when you shoot the enemies, they enter into a very exaggerated death animation that gives you the illusion you can keep damaging them, when in reality you can’t; if you try, your bullets will go right past them. My second complain also stems from the voice acting; you can get used to it (like I did) after a while, but at the beginning it was difficult for me to truly take the dialog seriously because of how exaggerated some of the accents were, especially the character of Paulie which is a fairly important character in the game.

    But like I said, this remake is an improvement on most levels, keeping what works (and still works from the original title) while updating it and adding more than just a visual upgrade to newcomers and past players alike. There might be some diehard fans that would always treasure the original experience above the one provided in this remake, but I personally couldn’t be happier with it.    … Expand

    Storytelling, good voice acting and motion capture are pretty good. Descent graphics and pretty city. Runs flawlessly on ryzen 3600 with 3600MHz CL16 ram with 1080 ti in 1440p maxed out settings.

The story pacing gives no way to make the main game open world, unfortunately, but the pacing of this game mode made it straightforward, which I believe was a good decision in a world of exhausting open world games with shallow, boring and almost unnecessary side quests.     The experience on the linear story mode alone is enough to make it a worthwhile purchase though because the game is crafted with beautiful graphics, good acting, simple but fun gameplay, and interesting narrative. Even after 18 years, Mafia looks great, but here they changed the dialogues very much and updated the regessura. The game takes place in 2 evenings and is beautiful. Great gameplay and a well-served plot. And optimization pleased, my PC with medium characteristics pulled the game on the maximum preset of graphics with 40 + FPS, it is worthy of respect.… Expand

    on va dire qu'il est juste un cran en dessous a cause de ses quelques bugs et ses anumations plus rigidez que re2 remake.
    autrement il fantastique, et c'est un rΓ©el plaisir l'ambiance de mafia 2002 avec des graphismes de cette qualitΓ©. hangar 13 s'est vraiment sorti les doigt pour ce remake. et surtout ils n'ont pas faits    J'estime que ce remake quasiment aussi bon que celui de re2 ,

    This is one of the best releases of this year. Game is classic, even it's original is aged well, but this remake is everything that remake should be - they didn't changed much of gameplay or story, added HD textures, effects, decals and details, polished cutscenes, etc. And the result is nearly perfect. The only thing in which this game isn't perfect is shooting. It's not bad at all, butThis is one of the best releases of this year.     I want to take stock after 13 hours of death and suffering on classic difficulty.
    Hangar 13 made a great remake in my opinion.
    Of course, it is noticeable that the game was created on the Mafia 3 engine. However, the engine was upgraded. 1. The shooting remained unchanged (as it seemed to me). This is a plus for me. I love shooting Mafia 3. 2.The physics of the car is many times better    I want to take stock after 13 hours of death and suffering on classic difficulty.

AsΓ­ que ahora que he tenido la ocasiΓ³n de echarle mano al Mafia Definitive Edition no lo dude y he de reconocer que es un juegazo perfectamente rehecho para los tiempos pero manteniendo todo lo del original. Para los que no sepΓ‘is como va, no os esperΓ©is un GTA en los aΓ±os 30, pues Mafia es un juego muy narrativo donde vas progresando por las historias, no realmente un mundo abierto. Hay combate y tiroteos, sin duda, algunos incluso muy espectaculares, pero tambiΓ©n muchas escenas de conducciΓ³n (en muchas ocasiones incluso hay que seguir las normas de trΓ‘fico) asΓ­ como algunas de sigilo. Todo ello en el marco de una historia fantΓ‘stica de mafias, con conflicto de Dones, el papel de la policΓ­a y la corrupciΓ³n, personajes muy bien llevados, etc.

    GrΓ‘ficamente el juego estΓ‘ muy muy bien, capturando deliciosamente la estΓ©tica y el feeling de la Γ©poca. A nivel sonoro igual, desde los acentos de los personajes a las radios y las noticias que van dando, el sonido te transporta de lleno a los aΓ±os 30. Y, al menos en mi experiencia, me he encontrado con algunos bugs pero poca cosa y poco importantes.

    I loved the original mafia and this remake absolutely made me shed a tear for this classic. Graphics and gameplay are stunning and mission design is almost perfect. The tweaks on the story are ok and don't destroy the og feel. The only bad thing preventing this from getting a 10 is relatevely empty world in Free Ride without a lot of things to do.

    bad: -The "race mission"! I had to turn down to medium to do it and that felt like cheating -There is no free roaming, because there is nothing to do in the city OK: - the driving controls are a bit imprecise probably to reflect 1920s/1930s relatively bad car -the shooting feels a bit cheap but I wasn't that bothered    I didn't play the original, but I really like this remake.

    Mafia Definitive Edition is not just a change of graphics, it is a change of the whole game, some features are borrowed from Mafia 3, some characters are changed, but mafia remains mafia. Of course, some flaws flowed into the Definitive Edition, but they are so invisible that they do not affect the gameplay in any way.

    All respects to the original, keeping graphics aside this remake also gave an extra depths to the characters with their dialogues and expressions. It's not every day I can say that a video game made me emotional in the end but this one did. Although I liked their choice of keeping limited weapon choice, firing mechanics could have been improved

    I am impressed with this game. I had very little expectations, it is so much better than Mafia 2. The story is great and the characters are special. Paulie is a great character. The graphics are better than Mafia 2 DE. There isn't much to do like GTA or other open world games but remember this is a remake of a 10 year old+ game. Enjoy.

    I really dig that one! Pretty good plot, very compelling characters and a good atmosphere overall. But besides the main story, there's basically nothing to be seen here. Best mafia story in the gaming media though.

    Mafia Definitive Edition is an amazing remake of the original Mafia 1. The graphics were really amazing. The city of Lost Heaven in the 1930s is really amazing, it's alive and really breathtaking. The story, the characters, the missions were really great.9,5/10

    Great Game , sadly i havenΒ΄t played the original one yet but i have to say that this is one of the best games ive ever played. Great story a good graphic but sadly the game is pretty short, it would have been nice if there were a few more hours to play , if the game would be a bit longer i would give 10 points . I highly recommend this game :D

    Great remake, it looks very good and I'm happy the plot was not changed that much. I really enjoyed playing the original game and this edition brings out memories and gives you a lot of fun. If I had to change anything I'd add possibility to save the game at any point of time (some autosave take place in a very bad moment - once I needed to play whole mission from the beginning because IGreat remake, it looks very good and I'm happy the plot was not changed that much.     The original game was one of my favorites, and I've finally played this version. I honestly felt very respected by the developers. This edition is such a pleasure to play and such a beautiful homage to the fans. There were some bugs and AI problems along the way, especially in the prison mission, but it didn't turn me off.

    I'm a big fan of the original and I think this is a faithful remake that Hangar 13 should be proud of. There are some glaring issues in this remake like very inconsistent difficulty, control issues (especially in combat) and facial animations that looks like something from the early Xbox 360/PS3 era, but apart from that, the game plays well, the music is good, the city looks beautifulI'm a big fan of the original and I think this is a faithful remake that Hangar 13 should be proud of.     Mafia definitive edition pc is a real technical tour de force, on my 3070ti i was able to get 4k60fps with max settings. Story was fantastic with a great voice cast with the majority of cutscenes played out in realtime visuals. It feels alot like mafia 2 but with the visuals similar to M3.     It's a game from a different era. Its world is not open, it's actually incredibly closed. You go from mission to mission without any form of free exploration or side quests. It has a good story and a satisfying shooting system. Considering it is a remake I'm giving it an 8 (would have given it a 6 otherwise)

    Excellent remake of a classic. Voice acting and story are topnotch. The gunplay is similar to the level of Max Payne games ; extremely fun and satisfying.
    Few issues with the game is that, during my playthrough, it crashed few times.

    Not the biggest fan of 2k but as I consider the original one of my all time favourite games i had to try this one.
    Comparing it to all the other "remasters" popping up for old classics, this is actuall a good one.
    The story - well nothing to say here..it's a homerun. Graphics are really nice. I love the atmosphere of the city.

NPC finally just do not waste time by standing somewhere for years in case gangsters would need some info etc. Gameplay is nice and smooth. Game is hard on classic difficulty - way more than ortiginal game. (You could do all the missions without taking a single hit in Mafia CoLH). AI is finally at least little bit smart and realistic - if they donΒ΄t see you change cover they presume you are still there and you can kick their ass from back - no supernatural "i know where you are all the time". and way more. Developers got rid of Lucas fetch and gave you collectibles instead of draging you around the map three times to get car you will never use. There is few flaws - throwing animation is dreadful, some bushes are made from concrete, there is no driving to bar after mission, shoting from car is made for kindergarten and thei got rid of few dumb characters like yellow pete, idiot joe or big dick. Overall it is really nice little budget game for two thirtd of the AAA price and so close to 9/10 but it is 8/10 in this condition - hope we will get some DLCs becouse it would be waste of really nice city to just say the same old, overplayed and boring story - even reimagined. But more important is: This game makes the original game like 5/10 or less.… Expand

It's linear, but there's something magical about this classic 1930's mob story. I can remember how inspiring it was at 13, and it definitely brought back fond memories, and made some new ones. Driving is a lot of fun, the cars feel great. The shooting mechanics didn't bother me as much as some, but definitely nothing innovative going on. Headshots are effective. I prefer this over a game like Division where you have to shoot someone a thousand times to fall.

    On the downside, let's be real, the open world is pretty pointless. It's nice to have the option to just cruise, but there's nothing to do more than look around. Sight seeing should be had, but it won't fill you up for too long.
    Overall if you're looking for a solid mob story during the prohibition era, I would highly recommend!

    Music in game is also slight disappointment. I miss some of those legendary songs. But again, it isnt bad overall.
    Driving is almost excelent but I am not a big fan of camera behaviour. I would also make normal driving mode more easy. Right now I cant really see a big difference between simulation and normal mode.
    Shooting is also very decent. Enemy animations could be better though. I also dont like how many bullets enemies can sometimes survive.
    Graphics is average. It feels like remaster of Mafia 2. I still liked it though. Good thing about this is that pc requirements are not that high. Some textures are off and some animations feel outdated, but not a big deal for me.
    Sound design is excelent in general. There are plenty of nice little details. Overall, audio provides very solid immersion.
    Story isnt exactly same like in original game, but I think they changed it mostly in positive way. Story line of Lucas is very poor compared to original game and I also dont like Ralph's story part. Very often you will completely avoid Ralph. On the other hand, Sara story line is significantly improved and I liked it a lot. In general, characters are more defined but their development is limited due to relatively short story.
    Atmosphere in the city is great, both night and day are awesome.
    In conclusion, I didnt feel like playing 2020 game, but it isnt necessary bad thing. Many things are limited due to fact it is remake. There isnt really any significant weakness about this remake though. I thing Hangar did decent job and majority of fans will be satisfied. Peraonally, I am satisfied. Still, the graphics look most of the time a step up compared to Mafia 3, overall they're very nice.

    - Car handling is mostly fine, but you need a gamepad to enjoy it. I didn't use simulation mode as I dislike too much vehicle simulation in games. I know some purists of the series do love their vehicle simulation, and they're saying cars were even better in the original, so I don't know. To me, they handled very smoothly, definitely better than Mafia 2's, maybe similar to Mafia 3's, possibly better.

    - The story...I mean, it's Mafia, the story is nice, but knowing what happens at every chapter of course means it didn't exactly feel as shocking and interesting as the very first time. Still, not having played the original since it came out helped with that a bit :P.
    Most dialogue has been re-done, so even if you know the story pretty well, the script has changed a bit. They did a lot of work on this, clearly.

    - The connection with Mafia 2 was nicely implemented and a nice touch (I expected this), if you know what I mean, if you don't...then you don't :P

    - Performance is mostly quite decent, on my Ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 1070 combo. This game runs much better than Mafia 3 when it released, way better, so overall quite happy with how it ran on my PC with these specs.

    - No Photo Mode: enough said.

    - Some bugs and small kinks present in Mafia 3, due to the engine, are also in this game, like for example Fullscreen mode locked at 60 Hz or some keybinds shenanigans. There are workarounds but still, I’m not giving it a higher score just for this, TBH, no excuses.

    - As I said, not a purist of the series, but there have been some downgrades in several "immersive" features from the original: Public transport is one, we cannot use those anymore, despite being there in the game and we can see them. It's not too important to me, but having it wouldn't have cost much, even with a loading screen or something.

    - Music: even though the tracks in the game are nice, I think this game is missing a ton of old tracks from the original, even some very iconic ones. I understand music rights are not cheap, but they could have added more new tracks, perhaps, I don't know, I'm not a music expert either but somehow I remember the original tracks more than I enjoyed these new ones, the ones that were new, or remade, that is.

    - Gunplay: while the game feels better to play in combat, than the original, we have cover now, the overall gunplay feels a bit too simple. It's still better than the old classic style, also because the old style made the game a lot harder to play, but overall the new "Mafia 3" style didn't made me feel much of a badass either. It's just there...not special.

    - Side Missions/Jobs: this was implemented terribly, if you can call it "implemented" at all. We don't have "freetime" anymore while doing the main campaign, so when Lucas Bertone tells us "hey, I might have work for you, come see me", we don't get free time to do so, or asked to go there, ever. You can go, pick the postcards up, and find the hidden cars, sure, but it's like it's not even there. I didn't like this...I know Mafia has always been a very linear experience, but they should've improved this, and added some more stuff to do and enjoy the amazing recreation they did of the original map.

    - The world is pretty under used, it has lots of places to go a visit, but nothing else to do there. They have added 50 fox statues collectibles, and exploring the world...may land you on one of those...maybe but yeah, the world feels dead especially on the outskirts.
    They could have done so much more with this, and Freeride doesn't fix this, it makes it even more evident how much wasted potential there is. There are some challenges in Freeride, sure, but still the world is big enough and feels pretty dead without much to do out of the campaign.

    All in all, it was a decent replay of this exciting story, for what it's worth, and the decent price, not a full 60€ game, it was fine.

The GamePlay was as I was expecting from a game from the Mafia Series. The Level Design, or in this case the upgrade from the original, looks great. The Combat System is on par to what is expected from a 3rd person game. The Narrative in this game, fits the game and brings the story forward successfully. The Visuals is amazing, From the cars to the cutscenes. The Sound effects are perfect, from the guns to the muscle car that i ended up playing a lot with due to the engine sounds. The Voice acting also is on spot. I can not say i encountered any bugs or performance issues during my PlayThrough. The Story was interesting, but nothing special. The ending was fantastic tho.     As somebody who has finished the original game more than 10 times I can say that Hangar 13 did a very good job doing the remake. It's a shame though that they shortened it, cut Yellow Pete, Lucas Bertone's missions and alternative endings in some missions. And it's a pity that the music is not that great.     At first, the game is certainly not enthralling. Its characters are not compelling, and the missions aren't super incredible at first. However, the game does pick up. The voice acting REALLY rubbed me the wrong way at the beginning, "The Don" did not feel like a mafia boss at first, and paulie did not feel like a soldier in the mafia, however as the game went on these characters became more believable.

    None of the characters are loveable, that's the point. Much like goodfellas, the sopranos and more, the characters are all criminals and generally not good people but at a certain point you are compelled to finish their stories. You certainly have to suspend disbelief for some of the games mechanics such as cops just giving up on searching for you after a massive job.

    Some of the missions did not feel particularly grand, and maybe could've used more modernization but I can understand why that may have not been the case so I can't fault it entirely.

    One thing that this game carried over from its Mafia 3 is the INCREDIBLE cinematics, they're fantastic. They bring so much to the game, and really this is where the characters shine. Their animations in scenes are fantastic, while out can be a bit strange at time but generally not bad.

    I only came across 2-3 game breaking bugs and were easily fixed with a quick restart of the game.
    Zero graphical bugs except for the weird one that was present in mafia 3 where the character has a strange outline on them in certain weather types.

    Overall a great experience, For 40$ its a fun pickup, for 30$ its great, for less, its a must have.

    It is not supremely long, in fact, it took me less than 3 days to beat it, after playing it off and on for a few hours at a time. I'd say maybe 10 hours, probably less if you're quick to it and turn off the "trivial driving" setting to skip the slower parts, however, I'd leave it on as there is some good dialogue and more involved there that could not be seen otherwise.

    The world feels great, the vehicles and lifestyle of everyone is very in tune with the time and the radio selection is excellent, however, its rather drab and gray. I understand that may be some of the point but it does suffer from much of what Mafia 2 suffered from. The color palette leaves a lot to be desired but its not awful. The game is linear, so I understand why the world is not supremely fleshed out, as it does not expect players to be driving around free-roaming like they do in Mafia 3 or a plethora of other open world games.

    The antagonist is interesting, but not super compelling, I'd argue the main characters pursuits are far more compelling than the rival mob. The game is told through a series of flashbacks, very akin the mafia 3 but not as masterfully. It's very well done, and sticks to the original but it does show its age when its being told like that and massive gaps in story are happening.

    Overall, its a wonderful game and potentially one of the greatest remasters of all time of a game I had never really felt compelled to play.    … Expand

    I played this game without any expectations and without watching any reviews... Bought on sale and it was an amazing decision. Story of mafia is amazing it's cinematic and I wasn't board at any time! Missions are diverse and always interesting. Graphic is beautiful, face animations and voice acting are top of the notch. City and the atmosphere of 30's is amazing. I really only could whish that the game wasn't divided into story and free roam... I would love to have both at the same time it's a little shame. Genuinely I wasn't expecting such an brilliant game! I really think that this game deserve a lot more attention. But to be fair there are a few bugs... Missing buttons prompts was the worst bug and I don't know why it hasn't been patched. But there was of course a racing mission... I've spent 3 hours only trying to beat it on the hardest difficulty... finally I came across a video on yt where dude is talking about RAM button and cutting the grass... And magically I have won in second try... That one mission was a hell of a mess! It was not fun at all and I don't know who thought that this would be a good idea! Despite the difficulty on the hardest level it's a really amazing game with stunning story amazing acting and lot of memorable moments! I can surely recommend Mafia definitive edition to anyone!… Expand

    I didn't buy the original game. But this is a very good remake of an old classic Game. Great story with great characters.

    This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

    The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is β€œmerely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of mixed flavours. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's great. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's awful. Mixture of aged mechanics and amazing graphics, new voices, great old story and some added, yet bad storylines, make it not such a perfect remake. But it sure is worth your time, whether you are a fan of the original or not. The moral of the story survived in all its glory, just be sure to focus your attention to the details where Mafia used to and still shines the most.
