I've been waiting so long for this kind of game since Final Fantasy VIII/IX, Was playing/watching recent JRPG such as tales series, nino kuni, legend of heroes, etc. But all of them doesn't have either turn based combat and/or static background combined. The closest one that I can remember that almost have both of that might be baten kaitos, even that the game have static background but the combat sadly a card-luck turn based combat,

Anyway this game simply a pure nostalgic JRPG experience. The game feels really polished with almost no bug. Controller respond and support also great (im using PC joystick). Loading time also pretty fast with fluid FPS and no stuttering at all, simple graphic/sound/controller/gameplay setting as well which is good.

Handrawn artworks looking great, Great FX (sunset water, snow, etc), Good 3D model, FX and animation in-game quality that match well with old JRPG quality, Great cinematic as well, simply match the old JRPG feels.

Combat also feels very balanced, complex and challenging I've almost got heart attack few times with challenging boss and almost got a game over LOL. Love the suikoden type batlle wars combat, All in all the combat really feels great!

The game design overall also amazingly done, with all the creative little traps, balanced dungeon/monster difficulty, addictive mini games which is a lot of FUN, complete and very informative tutorial, simple but yet enjoyful side quest; simple, easy to learn UI and awesome inventory/crafting management makes the gameplay even more enjoyable.

The soundtrack is simply AMAZING I even dare to compare it with FInal Fantasy series quality soundtrack (IMO), Really LOVE the world map Music, I even sometimes leaving it ON and keep it playing when I do another stuff. A Masterpiece.

For the downside, Well even tho the story is good, I feel that the script and text is quite draggy, I feel that many conversation a bit too much, but well you can always skip it anyway.

Short word : IF YOU LOVE JRPG such as Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX/X, Legend of Dragoon, Shadow Hearts, etc. I Simply recommend LEGRAND LEGACY! and for 24.99 USD (international price) which have this rich content and gameplay hours it's simply awesome value!

    Pros :
    - Great handrawn artworks and Full 3D CGI Cinematics
    - AMAZING high quality soundtrack
    - Great combat system which feel balanced and challenging
    - Gameplay feels really enjoyable just like Great old JRPG Game
    - A lot of content (mini games, crafting, many city/town, a lot of dungeons, many side quests, long gameplay hours)

    Cons :
    - Conversation feels a bit draggy

    Overall : 9,5/10

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! and really hope there is Legrand Legacy 2!!!!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It took me about 40 hours to fully finish Legrand Legacy and i must say the game was enjoyable.

The game starts out with the main character Finn fighting in the arena as a slave against the arena champion and thanks to some unknown power within him he menages to win. That serves as a tutorial for the battle system.

In the era where pretty much every JRPG has action combat system i was really glad that Legrand Legacy decided to go for the classical turn based battle system. While the battle system isnt
the best one i have seen it was enjoyable enough and fun for me.

Music in this game is absolutely beautiful. Battle music, characters themes, town themes or ending theme all are really well made. Beautifully drawn backgrounds together with the great music makes the world in this game really enjoyable to adventure in. Characters models are pretty decent as well also the animated portraits are nice.

Dungeons are fun to explore. They are easier at the beginning but they get harder as the game progress. Several dungeons have puzzles to solve which does make them less linear. The game have several mini games, they are not hard to do and that is a nice distraction from the dungeons and story.

Ok the most important thing in my JRPGs for me is the story and the characters. I have a mixed opinion on Legrands legacys story. I liked how the game send me back into the PS1 era and i had a feeling like iam playing The Legend of Dragoon all over again.
My issues with the story mostly comes to dialogs between the characters. Aria (the main female protagonist) for some odd reason is really rude to Finn and she often tries to put him down by calling him useless or a peasant. in the same time she is often jealous on him and the other girl in party and she wishes Finn sees her in a romantic way. Iam a hopeless romantic and i really like when a game has a nice and deep romantic bond between the two main chars. The romance in this game felt forced because there werent enough scenes with them bonding together. Adding several nice romantic scenes how they get closer and closer could have the romance much better.

The ending was underwhelming and i was expecting much more. Though the ending cutscene is really well made i was expecting more scenes. I love when the ending shows what happened to the world and characters after the last battle, sadly this game didnt showed any of that and i felt like the game did not gave me the closure i needed. The game needed a better ending, maybe showing how Finn and Aria got married and united their nations in harmony.

While the game has many things that could be better especially when it comes to writing and story it did managed to draw me in and make me really care for the characters and what will happen to them. The story was unpredictable and fun and i enjoyed it a lot.

Legrand Legacy is a great game, once i started playing i was just playing for hours and hours without stopping. Every JRPG lover should at least try the game. Semisoft looks like its made of very talented development team and iam really looking forward for some future upcoming jrpg by them.

I won't lie, JRPG's are not my thing but this game really intrigued me and I was able to enjoy it for a couple days, I did eventually burn out of the turn based combat and stop playing but that's simply not my preferred play style, I think the way it is implemented is pretty great for those that do enjoy it. In the end, Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds may scratch your itch for that nostalgic JRPG experience, but only if you're really desperate for such. Otherwise, prepare to mentally harden yourself to withstand many frustrations as you drag your way through the game. It's a shame that despite the stunning art and music, Legrand Legacy ended up being a very average JRPG, greatly flawed by its questionable choices in the game design and pacing.

Legrand Legacy is a polished game that has sadly taken a few controversial decissions, like the use of beautiful but complicated to navigate pre-rendered scenarios or QTE in combats that could may not be for everyone's taste. It should, however, please fans of the JRPG genre with its cliche but engaging plot and overall solid gameplay.

We had some great expectations for this title, but sadly Legrand Legacy wasn't quite able to live up to them. We strongly suggest to download the free demo on Steam before buying this title, to see for yourself what you're going into.
