Last Time I Saw You is a standout narrative adventure that doesn’t force you to relate to the main protagonist, but instead weaves in the stories and struggles of a young group of friends and how they plan to tackle life. Following Ayumi’s lead down a quest for love is an experience I won’t forget anytime soon, but the path forward does require some personal pacing to avoid backtracking exhaustion. If you need a nice dose of nostalgia, you’ve found your game.

Like the air after a downpour, Last Time I Saw You‘s refreshing narrative and glistening visuals made up for some of its technical weakness. It was hard to put down. I needed to weather each chapter’s storm, made both by monsters and men, to learn the fate of the village I’d grown so fond of.

Last Time I Saw You is a very warm, beautifully drawn adventure that can be compared to Studio Ghibli's best work.

Authentically Japanese, Last Time I Saw You has the feeling – if not the visuals – of a Studio Ghibli title, and it does carry an emotional impact. Light platforming challenges accompany this narrative-driven experience, which is admirably well-written and entertaining.
