Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a compilation that brings the popular Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system platform remastered in high definition.

Originally released in 2012, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance HD is a full-HD remastered version of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the Kingdom Hearts series has evolved, allowing players to experience faster-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.
This newly remastered title also features Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage - a completely new playable episode that links to the story of Kingdom Hearts III, taking place after the storyline of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.

Overall, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue isn't as strong as the previous package, even if you separate that into the original PS3 configurations. It's nice to travel to some new Disney locales, but the story for the included games lacks excitement despite providing some big details for the future. The combat is better, although some of that is bogged down in Dream Drop Distance due to extra gameplay mechanics. The overall game length is shorter, and while it looks great, it makes you wonder if it would've been a better idea to throw these titles into the 1.5 + 2.5 compilation rather than keeping them separate. As it stands now, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is fine for existing longtime fans — but not at its current price.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is not the best of the three KINGDOM HEARTS games releasing on Steam this week in terms of pure value, but it is still great for fans and worth playing if you’re going through the games one by one. It plays great out of the box on Steam Deck thankfully, but I don’t recommend buying this one on its own. I would recommend getting it through the combined bundle with all KINGDOM HEARTS releases right now.
