When compared to Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, Killing floor looks puny and not worth buying. Killing Floor offers many things that make the game fun and full of replayability. The game comes with 10 or so different characters that are stuck in certain maps, made by Tripwire or the community. The story line is barely present, but neither was Left 4 Dead

This game had great potential. What it excels in, is franatic gameplay with 5 others (or less) and can be enjoyed for a couple hours. There are unique zombies to kill each with abilities. Theres too many FEW things. The AI was poor in this game, you'll see zombies stock at some positions, waiting for them to approach, and the games replay value was at a medium-low standard. The concept was boring, kill the zombies each round, make it to the seller, and repeat. There are some perks for each level which make the leveling system pretty fun, but so far only 2 levels have been seen to be used widely among all players, with out anyone else using the others. Unfortunaltly killing floor did not meet expectations, the gameplay was a little dull although very fun while playing multiplayer (if your looking for a single player experience, dont bother). What you get is a mix of bad animations, Extremly low amount of content and replay value. This game wouldve been more suited for a 10$ game mark, but not 20 being that it looks more like a mod for a game rather then a game itself (understanding that it WAS a mod for UT, but this time it isnt) I do applaud tripwire for providing this game after many years, but you receive a small bang for your buck Expand

The graphics look great, whacking the head off a zombie with a fire axe during slow motion couldn't possibly be more awesome! Although yes, the flashlight is quite displeasing. But gameplay is very much more important than graphics - as long as the graphics meet a minimum standard, people need to just stop caring so much. Though they won't... and never will. At least Blizzard has that figured out. Expand

As some have stated, this is a love it or hate it game. The idea of comparing killing floor with L4D is absurd, the only similarity in game play is that there is a truck-load of zombies to kill. Myself? I'd recommend killing floor to everyone and anyone.

Comparing such a masterpiece to a senseless, baseless game such as L4D does it no justice. The free updates, such as the recent weapons and map packs, are beyond the grasp of most L4D gamers. Since it's free, everyone is able to enjoy it. There is no bias such as what L4D brings to the field. Most importantly, the critics have gotten it wrong... again! Graphically inclined, most critics believe gameplay is only as important as characters dialog and define a game on how "awesome the graphics are" and judge the book by its cover. However, Killing Floor (KF) is running on an old engine, which is modable (the game is a lot more exciting when you are able to fiddle around with weapons and maps). Another bit that excites it the number of characters. $1.99 for a DLC Character pack? Come on, it's a bloody bargain. Last thing anyone needs nowadays is an update costing $49.99 to have fun. A lot of people have pointed this out, and so will I -- guns make smiley faces. All in all, this game rates as 'epic' on the 'Epic Scale' for it's mods, gameplay and pure attention to detail. Expand

Killing floor is a good game for about a week, but then it gets dull. Not even more perks can overcome this. It's just the truth. Perhaps if the modding community gets their hands on it, it might just improve. But until the time that a group of excellent modders come, it will be a dull game. I normally never bother writing reviews for games on sites like this. But I felt that some things had to be said. Don't listen to the idiotic critics. In the past... almost half a year since this game released, I have put hundreds of hours into it. Literally around 10x the length of time that L4D held my interest. It is really fun, the guns handle much better (there's ironsights!) and there are much more of them, more enemy types, TONS of user created maps, and, best of all, the game is challenging on the higher difficulties without being cheap about it like L4D is. If you're a skilled player you can survive on your own in most situations, instead of getting pinned down by a hunter/smoker the second your other team mates die. I acknowledge some of the criticisms but at the end of the day, it's so fun, engaging, team-building, challenging and rewarding that some of the criticized details just don't matter. It had some bad stuff, like not enough time to buy stuff, not enough weapons, etc.

And ironically because it doesn't attempt a story, you dont feel it needs one. Although an emphasis can be made on teamwork, it isn't absolutely required for play, and there isn't any of that Smoker snatching the sole survivor out of the safe room just as they go to slam the door kind of irritation. I honestly don't believe it's fair to compare KF and L4D, yet everyone and thier mothers seems to do it. Sure, they're both zombie killing games, but they each do it in such different ways that people really are comparing apples and oranges. I still play both equally. That said, I'm of the belief KF should have at least an 80+ rating. That said, I'm of the belief KF should have at least an 80+ rating. The graphics are a bit dated, but that's never been my top concern for any game. There's enough craziness and killing to go around, coupled with an awesome soundtrack, that really makes the (admitedly somewhat basic) gameplay truly shine. The KF community is great, producing tons of new maps that range from awful to downright awesome, but each manages to be fun in its own right. Similarly, Tripwire really stands by thier game: it seems like every time a glitch or bug pops up, they fix it within a week or two. They also update fairly often with good amounts of content; as a matter of fact, just yesterday there was an update with new weapons, a new developer map, and modifications to the mechanics of other weapons. Is KF the best game ever? No, but there's certainly more than enough to keep someone who enjoys slaying the undead entertained for a good, long time (and for a low price too!). Expand

Where Left 4 Dead lacked in challenge and just pure grittiness, here it is, in a convinient $20 price tag. weapons are hella fun to use (shotgun packs a blow never before seen in a video game) Classes are fun to level, but in the end you'll find the support class the obvious choice for a standalone defense agianst the specimens. Although, the game focuses on cooperation and therefore a variety of classes IS important. For instance, the firebug class is great for cooperation as he can efficiently weild a flamethrower which greatly weakens and suppresses enemies to be picked off, and also rarely requires a reload. Gibbing heads off of specimens with a chainsaw as your teamates pick off enemies behind you by rifle is also a great blast. Overall what really saves the replay value of this game is fast paced rounds, numerous custom maps (as there is currently a very devoted community) And most importantly a true challenge for players who choose hard or scuicidal difficulty, making the numerous achievements very hard, but rewarding to attain. Even on normal the game is quite hard becase of the final boss each round (aka PATRIARCH) which is VERY,VERY HARD to kill and requires heavy teamwork and quick planning (which you have only 30 secs. to a minute to do so) In my opinion He should be one of the hardest bosses of all time, considering how often he wipes out a trained 6 player team no sweat. Some better guns for sharpshooters, adding a actually storyline, and adding in a versus mode similar to L4D this game would have destroyed L4D in the ratings. Even with all these things wrong and lacking however this game still manages to be one of steams most sold games. every week sometimes outselling L4D due to fact its much much cheaper and easier to run on peoples computers. Overall its a decent game good to kill off some time. If Valve and TripWire team up they could make one sick zombie horror game. Expand

THIS GAME ROCKS .... in my honest opinion better than L4D just a bit .... I like the gameplay and the weapons are pretty fun ... perks are quite useful and each lvl helps you attain to the next ... the difficulty of the game is pretty well balanced hard is pretty hard and it requires good communication of players to defeat the patriarch

The enemy AI is really crappy, so there is no real tactic in this game, they only spawn and walk ridiculously to you. Also I really don't like the perk system, which seems to me a cheap way to increase replay value. So, fun to relax killing zombies from time to time, but nowhere as good as L4D (sorry to put this comparison once more). Another thing: I thought that the levels where open at first, but they are much smaller than I thought, you quickly know all the Map, and they don't seem to be huge. Turning around farms outrunning zombies, occasionally killing one or two who arrived near you, is quickly getting old. Expand

I rated this game for two reasons.
    1) I'm here, why not.
    2) It's score is far too low for a brilliant game such as this. Fun cannot be any more brutal than this, and I would prefer this to Left4Dead anyday, seeing as though it is cheaper and more enjoyable.

Killing Floor is a fun game to play. But it get boring after a little while due to they same thing as Counter Strike. You respawn at a place, kill zombies, by some guns, kill zombies and continue to the next wave. Graphics are okej 6/10. Id say for 20 bucks its okej.

I agree Killing Floor isn't the best zombie game around. But it is quite fun and has a big and active community. Many user-made maps come out everyday and since their launch in may, tripwire already made many updates fixing bugs and enhancing game play. I trully discredit this metacritic it received and I think this game is a 80+ metacritic game... 71 is just too harsh on it!

I recently bought this game and have play the shit out of it. This game doesn't have you running check point to check point but instead has you fighting off waves of zombies. This game of course isn't as perfect as L4D but you have to remember it is a mod off quake 4. This game is one of the best survival horror games I've played. The only things I've found bad about killing floor is its stupid phrases the characters, and trader says. The trade says the most retared things I've ever heard ,literally she sounds like she has down syndrome when she talks. The game could have been better. Needed more content when it first came out. The same 5 lvls gets old after awhile and characters are very limited and could have had more work done on them. They have released the outbreak character pack which gives you four new characters to play as for $2. Yeah i know its BS that they are making people pay for new for content let alone characters. Its a mod the DLC should come free. But they have recently announced the FREE DLC heavy metal. It will include a whole new map, new weapons such as the katana and the ak-47! They're also saying there's a lot more free DLC to come. Differently from most survival games there are perks in the game such as beserk, sharp shooter, medic, support specialist, and commando. All have equally beneficial advantage to them. You can also get ZEDtime which you get from killing a good amount of infected. Zedtime slows down time, very useful when you have a clot on you and surrounded by infected. Killing floor has a decent amount of weapons ranging from melee, to dual wielding and the usual shotguns, machine guns, and sniper rifle. This game definitely has a lot more weapons then L4D which was one of the biggest let downs. After playing killing floor I've learned this game isnt for anyone. If your one of the people who is impatient and goes off on your own cause you think your a bad ass this isn't your game. This game is team based meaning having to work together, without team work you'll end up like poster 1. So if your looking for a game that's fast past, challenging,co op, and different from most survival horror games then killing floor is the game for you. I really suggest buying this game its only $20 and release DLC often. So if you love gory zombie games this is a must buy then and even if you don't its definitely worth trying out. Expand

  1. Killing Floor is a zombie game that lacks brain and own ideas. In the main part it's simply a Left 4 Dead clone with boring maps and graphics. But Killing Floor's emphasis on tactical gameplay, the solid coop mode and the cheap prize make the game worth a look.
  2. Tripwire Interactives Killing Floor is what you would expect of a polished mod, but doesn't exceed expectations as a retail game. It's good, but unfortunately far from perfect. A nice addition to the survival-horror genre though, and it has an attractively cheap price tag.
