This game is so fun, the DEA should put people in jail for playing it. I has a 6 player coop where playing as a team actually matters. People that like to wander away from the group end up dead. 6 classes that impact the game in their own unique ways.

AND the game is fully modifiable for tons of extra fun beyond the core game.

The game isn't that good... it was pretty bad in my opinion. it's buggy and it has a lot of errors. the graphics are pretty bad, and the animations are terrible. i do like the slowmotion effects, and the game can be really fun with friends. overall, not good enough for an 7/8.

I play the game regularly, and I have to say that I don't get bored of it. Remember it is not a Call Of Duty run in and gun, but a game which requires the player to take on enemies specifically accordingly to perk and weaponry. This is a game truly for people who want a vivid, groundbreaking time and are up to complexly challenging difficulty ( Suicidal and Hell On Earth Difficulty ). I recommend any FPS player who loves zombie/infected/mutated genre to take on this game. Expand

Dosh grab it while it's hot!

Anyways metal, zombies, blood and gore, zombies, guns, zombies= all out fun!
If your bored of the official maps than checkout the ones by other players.
They have special events in game for the holidays such as Christmas and Halloween, also a summer event. Nothing like slaying mutated rednecks (wait there's no difference between a mutated one and a normal one).

This is a simple and great game. Nothing fancy, some glitches, simply AI, but really a lot of unadulterated fun. sit back and enjoy killing some zombies, sometimes you might actually find yourself being a little frightened. MAYBE. Probably not, if you're like me, you shoot the **** out of everything that moves. Lots of fun, it doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not.

Killing Floor is interesting when you're playing with friends, although it does get quite boring eventually. I liked the slow-mo effect whenever someone does headshots, but there is quite lag, even on a server you host on your own sometimes. It's occasional, but sometimes it's annyoing because a lag might cause you to die.

It's an okay game, I wouldn't buy it at full priced though. I

I must begin by saying I spend an absolute ridiculous amount of time playing Killing Floor (nearing 400 hours played) and even I will have to admit that yes, the game can get repetitive at times. What really falls in this game, is the extreme repetition. the game is based on clearing 10 waves, plus an 11th which is the final boss, using a team of 6 soldiers that uses (very well) different classes in order to wipe the monsters. However, the levelling procedure is EXTREMELY slow and will take lots and lots of time in order to reach max level, especially when each class have their own way to level up (firebug= roast some monsters; Medic= heal tons of time; Support= weld a lot of doors). However, this game is really fun though, especially if you play with friends or have a clan to play with, especially because it's NOT an easy game (except low levels): it's a game that encourages team work and a lot of defensive maneuvers, which isn't very easy to do if your team is clueless on what to do, and the classes must be used wisely too (the sharpshooter, for instance, can almost one-shot most of the biggest enemies, while the firebug is a good crowd controller). It's a very repetitive and simple game, but that simplicity has a lot of deep into it. Give it a try, I really recommend to give it a look if you're looking for a different team based shooter. Expand

I give Killing Floor a 10 because of what it is. Many people gave KF a score of 7 or below, or 70 or below (for "professional" reviewers). KF was built on the Unreal Engine 2 (or 2.5), and if it is poorly optimized, then that is a problem with the engine, not the game. It is repetitive. Yes, that's because it has one objective: shoot specimens. L4D is repetitive, too! "Shoot never ending waves of zombies. Go here. Repeat." At least KF has "perks" which reward your play style without harming your gaming experience at all. In fact, it may aid it! I remember selecting the Support Specialist perk, which adds a bonus to carry weight, and picking up explosive weapons (from the Demolitionist perk) so I could carry more weapons! Of course, reviewers pass over these pluses and simply go straight for the negatives. Ignore them. Killing Floor is a great game that is MEANT to be repetitive: get better at the game at all the maps it has, with all the perks it has to offer, on all the difficulty levels it has to offer. Play with friends to make it more interesting. Killing Floor is extremely replay-able, L4D is not. I have a total of 14 hours playing L4D, 17 for L4D2. That was after a couple play-throughs for each. Killing Floor? 201 hours. And that's because I have a real life to attend to. I keep going back to KF because it is addicting (repetitive, for you ignorant folks), and the community is great. I definitely recommend this game for its excellent playability and "fun factor." Expand

For those of you thinking Left 4 Dead (L4D) franchise is better, your entitled to your opinion, but I may have to disagree with you. Each of these games are different and bring different qualities of gaming to the table. Whereas L4D franchise will take the fabled zombie apocalypse more seriously and try to be more realistic about how scary it might be, Killing Floor revels in the many opportunities you'll get to kill hordes of zombies. Basically it comes down to the very nature of how one might wish to combat certain death. You can either move from place to place cowering in fear in L4D safe houses, or you can laugh in the face of death and move from place to place buying weapons from the same merchant who knows all the good hiding spots and could never possibly think to harbor anyone else because she needs money in an apocalyptic future that still somehow has a working economy, especially for buying/selling guns which you will be spending all your money on in Killing Floor. Point is, Killing floor has bucket loads of replay-ability. Expand

Also, some modded maps support many dozens of characters. I once saw a modded match containing 300 players. All modded content in a map is downloaded when you join a server- no work on your part required. The community is active and large as of August 2012.
The game is easy enough to run for even people with basic, old and outdated pcs to have fun in 6 person matches, but if you have a god pc, you can jack up all the graphical options and join massive matches as well.

There is no story or anything of that sort, but the gameplay definitely makes up for it. It involves you fighting off waves of zombie-like creatures together with teammates, then buying better guns and fighting even tougher creatures. The enemy creatures that you face are very intriguing. Each one has its own means of attacking you and its own backstory. There is also a very impressive selection of guns that you get to use to fight the creatures off. The players also get to choose their class. The class system is great, because it allows teammates to specialise, what means that teamwork is encouraged greatly. It's quite flexible still as you are not limited to certain weapons with each class. It's just that you get different bonuses. And then there are some minor RPG elements present. You get to level up each class and get better at certain types of weapons depending on your style of play. Killing Floor is an incredibly fun co-op shooter, but it's not so much its huge selection of guns or a lot of gore that make it so fun, but it's the sense of teamwork that it brings about to the players. My favorite part of the game is the fact that you will usually never win if you do not have a good team with you, it is NOT by any means an easy game that you can mess around in, if any players are bad they will hurt you and your team in many ways, when there are multiple bad/inexperienced players in your game I can guarantee you that you will not win unless you are playing on the easiest mode in the game (beginner mode), that being said the game forces everybody to work together using a myriad of different tactics. The class system is also flawless, all 7 perks in the game take a very long time to rank up to level 6. And with each of those levels your class becomes much more effective, which practically balances out the game, in that if you play as a level 4 sharpshooter on hard mode you will usually always do MUCH better than somebody who is playing as a level 0 - 3. The in-game soundtrack is also great, every song will seem weird at first but they eventually start to grow on you. Overall, Killing Floor is a master piece in the world of co-operative gaming. A must have if you love gorey, zombie-esqe styled games with endless waves of enemies to shoot, decapitate, burn, blow-up! Tons of hours spent on it (Over 400 here.) you'll have to try this or regret it for the rest of your silly life.

8/10 for bugs, but elsewise this is the best zombie game I have ever played. It's simple in design, as there are waves of zombies that come and you and your buddies have to hold out until the patriarch, and then defeat him. The way everything meshes together makes an awesome game, but as I said before, I cannot rate it 10/10 due to bugs. It's an awesome game though, and I highly recommend it.

The reviewers who reviewed it a year or two ago reviewed an entirely different, much more buggy game... and most of them STILL enjoyed it. Since the game has came out, the amount of weapons you can buy has doubled and the amount of characters quadrupled. The new guns, monsters and levels are all completely free updates to the game, while the "DLC" is vanity characters. Every few months the folks at TWI add in some new guns or a new level, and recently it looks like they've been listening to the community they have.

Speaking of that, this is actually one of the most active games on steam with 7.8k players. There is, oddly enough, an active modding community, so if that's your game, there's both a presence and a lot of tutorials to help you.

Well, what about the actual game itself? Cathartic. When you shoot the guns, you can expect limbs to fly off in a bloody, satisfying mess, and when you use explosives, you can expect the "specimens" to turn into "giblets" - a euphemism for being in a lot of bloody chunks. After a few more updates the classes are more balanced than before with very defined and clear strengths and weaknesses. The difficulty of the game is nearly linear based on how many players are in the game - making it important to stick with your team (for the most part).

The graphics are nothing special. Bloom and AA can hide some of it, but the explosions still feel a little cheesy. Pretty good for its time, now it's just aging fairly well. There is a very wide variety of weapons to choose from now - not numerically, but functionally. Each gun has a different purpose, instead of basically being an upgraded version of a previous gun (with some exceptions to the melee tree). The perks are standard and push no envelops, but very well-rounded.

Some of the level design is a bit uninspired, feeling as if it has a color-sickness. The difficulty can feel two-sided (too hard, or too easy). The final boss can be out outrageously hard unless everyone knows exactly how to deal with him. Camping is a bit too prevalent which I feel is a bit boring. There's a lot of steam achievements, if that's your thing, although some of them you can only get during a certain time of year, during the events. Never-the-less, it's a criminally fun and active game with a good chunk of personality. You can log repulsive amounts of hours in this game and still find it fun - because, simply, it is fun. Pure, simple, fun.

I never really knew why, but it just didn't feel right. Then when it came on steam for a much more reasonable $5.99 I knew it was time to pull the trigger. What can I say about this game? That it's not the most amazing game to ever hit the zombie/undead killing FPS and/or Mod of a more iconic FPS (ie Zombie Mods for COD) but I will say that it is certainly not the worst and a good way to "kill" time (HA!). Anyway, in playing Killing Floor it reminded me of a better version of the zombie mods in Counter-Strike (remember those?) It has the reminiscent buy guns model of play and the fact that once your dead, there is no re-spawn for the rest of that round. Anybody that's played the jail break mods of Alliance of Valiant Arms may see the similarity as well. All around the game is a no-brainer good time for killing brainless AI's but it's not without its fair share of frustrations. The fact that (when playing multi-player at least) every time ANYBODY gets ZED time you as a player experience it as well, frustrated me. This was especially true when I was reloading, running from the ZEDs or not already iron sighted. Also, the fact that glitchy physics (getting stuck in the corners of walls and such) and the lack of being able to get out of a crowd of brain munching zombies once they've cornered you made me grumble under my breath as my character was ripped apart. I think I would also appreciate the ability to move a bit faster. While your character can walk, and god do they walk slowly (heaven forbid you haphazardly toggle it on) their version of "running" (in my mind) is parallel to that of a 70 year old man going for his brisk Sunday walk through the park. Overall the game is simple fun. The gun selection is interesting, the characters (while bland in voice acting) are enjoyable, and you get to kill things in waves. It even makes you think about survival as staying with the team becomes a real factor to living or dying and if fortification can be a successful method of survival as well. The game has some flaws, but then again, which game doesn't? and really, for the price it's a darn good time. Expand

Killing Floor takes everything you expect from cliche shooters and turns it on its head - in a good way. When a game features selectable classes, a ranking system, DLC and buying weapons, most people think they have the gameplay all figured out - and they are completely wrong. When a game features selectable classes, a ranking system, DLC and buying weapons, most people think they have the gameplay all figured out - and they are completely wrong. Unlike most class-based shooters, Killing Floor does not offer unique weapons for each class (called "Perks"). Instead, each perk offers an advantage with certain weapon types and certain overall abilities (such as accuracy/reload speed bonuses, headshot damage multipliers, speed boosts etc.), while allowing every perk to use every weapon and item in the game (for the correct price, of course). This affects the game in many ways. Firstly, players are able to make hybrid loadouts, and new perk/weapon combinations which were originally not intended but are very effective can be used. For example, the Lever Action Rifle is a sharpshooter perk weapon, however this weapon is GREAT in the hands of a medic because of his speed bonus while moving. By not enforcing specific player models on a perk by perk basis, the game manages to allow player customisability and yet allow easy perk identification through icons above players heads and in the scoreboard. This customisability can be enhanced further through DLC packs, which are usually around $2 each on steam. Despite being dirt cheap, these packs also have no effect on the gameplay, and as such avoid any possible "pay-to-win" situations. The game is also quite punishing, although it seems completely fair when a player dies. If you don't plan ahead with the rest of the team, you are likely to lose, especially on the harder difficulties. It is even possible to die on the first wave (which is usually a free money easymode wave) by allowing yourself to be surrounded.

The enemies are also very well thought out. Each enemy type has its own unique ability, such as the clots ability to grab and hold a player (preventing them from moving), which makes them extremely deadly in large groups or when up close.

Killing Floor also features an amazing ranking system, which manages to avoid many of the problems inherent in traditional ranking systems. Each perk is ranked up individually, which means the player will never achieve a new rank only to unlock a higher level for a perk they never use. It also gives every player, from the day 1 noob to the hardcore veteran, access to all of the game content immediately. Instead of unlocking new weapons or abilities, ranking up simply makes the perks more effective, which keeps the game balanced, and doesn't enforce an artificial divide between skilled players and newer players based on unlocks

And now, the mandatory L4D comparison paragraph. The game has some similarities to L4D, but is definitely a different game. Many reviewers compare the 2, which is impossible because of their differing natures. While L4D is about completing goals and making it to the end of the map, Killing Floor is all about surviving, planning ahead, getting a good class balance within the squad, and making sure everyone has access to the limited resources available.

To make a great game truly legendary, Tripwire have been constantly updating Killing Floor and releasing free content and weapon packs, including community maps, and have a system in place to whitelist custom maps and mutators (small server-side mods) to allow people to use and level up their perks.

I originally got this game in a $4.99 sale around Christmas 2010. Best $5 I have ever spent

Killing Floor's title as an indie game really shows, the bland but hilarious voice acting (which I must add, every survivor except the trader share the same voice actor), and the somewhat outdated graphics (not that they're horrible, they're just not amazing), but that doesn't make Killing Floor a bad game. Although the single player gets repetitive very fast, if you gather a few friends and play on a public server, it's loads of fun and I have a blast playing it.
Basically you choose a 3D model as one of your characters, and you get to choose a perk you specialize in. These perks give you special abilities, like a discount on a certain weapon related to the perk, or an ammo increase, better accuracy, etc.
Then you have to fight waves of little mutated creatures with their own unique abilities.
At the end of the round (which can last up to 15 waves) there is a boss fight.
Almost all the maps are open world (except for a select few which usually take place in a city or something) and if you get tired of the maps Tripwire gives you, there are custom maps you can download.
For a mere 20 dollars, this game is awesome fun, and if you have any friends that play it, it'll sure last a while.

You have 7 perks (classes) to choose from, the perks are medic, demolitions, support specialist, sharpshooter, commando, firebug and berserker. Each perk has a role to play during the game and it's here that teamwork is needed to survive as the higher you go in difficulty the harder the game becomes for the entire team.

You have a number of weapons to choose from depending on your chosen perk, some of these are the AK47, MG32 (Grenade Launcher), SCAR, Flamethrower, Chainsaw, etc.

The game is quite easy to learn, survive each wave of specimens (zeds) and go to the trader to buy new weapons/re-arm/buy armour, etc.

You'll then face the end of game boss, the Patriarch and he will take some skill to take down, he is heavily armed carrying a Mini-Gun and Rocket Launcher with will kill you or your team very quickly, he is also very fast and can cloak making him even more of a threat as you'll often find he can appear in the middle of the team without any warning. He can also heal 3 times if he takes too much damage.

I've put a lot of time into this game (over 800 hours so far) and every game is different, the devs also release new characters or make them available via achievements for a specific event.

The maps are very big and well designed too.

A great team-based game and I highly recommend it!

It got very repetitive after awhile, shoot down specimens, fight for money, get to the trader rinse and repeat. The problem is the game lacked diversity in gameplay. It requires no skill, tactical style, thought just simple gun em' down gameplay. Now its more of an arcade style game but your stuck in the same situation over and over. There are many pluses, including a hoard of achievements some of which are nearly impossible to get, and the fact that Tripwire keeps making free updates (like changing monsters' looks for christmas or summer) and adds new maps to the official collection. But of course, graphics are not top of the line, sure, and some animations are choppy, and it's not really that "adventurous" - most maps are won by sitting in a corner, dumbly shooting in front of you. The game looks fine enough and does a good job of achieving the atmosphere it seeks to create. Next is the repetitive gameplay. I don't understand why people are hating the game for this reason. I keep hearing it being compared to left 4 dead and in my opinion it's just as repetitive as killing floor. I guess it's because they it's 1.a valve game, and 2. they wave around their AI director like a victory flag. Killing floor also has persistent progression with perks that level up as you complete their requirements, and a large arsenal of weapons that is far more varied than left 4 dead's. Other people have criticized the AI. What do you expect from drooling mutants in killing frenzies? They do their job and nothing less. Of course this is all rendered stupid form the start considering that the game costs twenty bucks. For this along with the free updates sure to come I don't see why this isn't a good dead and at the same time I don't see how anybody could expects more. Frankly, what we have here is a great game concept hamstrung by painfully repetitive game play. First, let's talk about the things to love: I loved being able to level up a character, pick a class appropriate for the team/level and have at the zombies. It was even more fun when they launched the "Christmas Patch" and I got to kill Nut Crackers, Santa and Pippi-Longstocking-in-a-Gas-Mask instead of the same old mangled zombie with radiation burns that we see in every game. Here's the bad news: the level design such that on the harder difficulties you had to be planted in the exact same spot where you were forced to camp and wait to kill the enemy with your back to a locked door or else you'd simply be overwhelmed. A normal coop game would take upward of an hour, and when you finally got to the big boss, he'd kill you in one shot before you even knew he was there...a little bit frustrating. The voice acting was distractingly terrible, and the character classes could have used a bit more balancing. When it is all said and done, the game has some elements that really make the game worth playing (for a little while), but ultimately needs to have some type of objectives (other than simple survival). A blend of L4D and Killing Floor would have tremendous potential and I'm hoping L4D3 goes in that direction! Expand

  1. Killing Floor is a zombie game that lacks brain and own ideas. In the main part it's simply a Left 4 Dead clone with boring maps and graphics. But Killing Floor's emphasis on tactical gameplay, the solid coop mode and the cheap prize make the game worth a look.
  2. Tripwire Interactives Killing Floor is what you would expect of a polished mod, but doesn't exceed expectations as a retail game. It's good, but unfortunately far from perfect. A nice addition to the survival-horror genre though, and it has an attractively cheap price tag.
